Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1051
I don’t have that kind of genes, okay? After listening to those words, Luo Huimei carefully examined Yan, then glanced over at Little Bean, as if she was comparing them. After a moment, she nodded. “You’re right. With your looks, you won’t be able to give birth to such a good-looking child.”
Yan kept silent. Although what her mother said was the truth, why did it sound especially hurtful when it came out of her mother’s mouth? She felt depressed, but even so, she explained, “Little Bean just came back from overseas today; he wanted to meet me, so I went over to pick him up. After this, we will be going back home together. I don’t think there would be enough time for me to visit the hospital again today aside from delivering the food. Mom, please take care of Dad.”
From the start, Luo Huimei had been grateful toward Han Muzi. Now that she knew Little Bean was Han Muzi’s son, she nodded her head repeatedly. “Alright, alright. You better treat him well. Since he just got back, why don’t you let him try the classic snacks near our place? But, choose wisely; don’t just pick a random roadside stall. Otherwise, the kid might fall ill. Do you understand, Yan?”
Yan replied, “I got it, Mom; I understand.”
“Aunt Zhou, I’m not picky. Besides, Aunt Yan treats me very well; don’t worry.”
Luo Huimei immediately laughed happily when she heard those words. “Oh, my! Look at how sensible this kid is! How smart you are! If you look so exquisite and delicate, how good-looking must your parents be?” She could almost imagine how the parents of Little Bean looked like—they most certainly were good-looking and had a high IQ!
Yan began tidying up her stuff as she uttered, “Alright, why don’t the two of you start eating? I’m going to bring Little Bean sight-seeing. We’ll find some time to come over tonight. Little Bean, say your goodbyes.”
“Goodbye, Uncle Zhou and Aunt Zhou. I’ll come to visit you again on another day.”
“Sure, sure, sure.”
“Take care, little President Ye. Please let me know in advance the next time you come over; I’ll prepare a gift for you.”
Yan did not bother replying. After extricating Little Bean from the hospital with much difficulty, she finally let out a breath of relief. She stroked his head lightly, and gently said, “My parents are a little rough, but they are extremely friendly. Were you frightened by them, Little Bean?”
He shook his head, and replied warmly, “I wasn’t, Aunt Yan. Uncle Zhou and Aunt Zhou were very nice; I like them a lot.”
“What a silver tongue!” She broke out into a smile. Then, she bent down and picked him up. “I’ll bring you home right now.” Afterward, she brought him home with her. Just as she was about to start cooking lunch, he poked his head into the kitchen. “Aunt Yan, why don’t we go out to eat?”
Puzzled, she put down the vegetable in her hand. “What’s wrong? Didn’t you say you want to eat my cooking? Why do you want to go out all of a sudden?”
He hid his phone behind his back, a cunning expression flashing across his eyes. “Aunt Yan, I’m craving for the steamed fish from XX restaurant. I checked it out online just now; it has pretty good reviews.”
“The steamed fish from XX restaurant?” She furrowed her brows. It wasn’t a place she was familiar with. While she was still hesitating, he walked over to her and tugged at the corner of her shirt.
“Aunt Yan, can we go, please? Let’s go together. We’ll come back for dinner, okay?” Little Bean was putting on his coy act for her, so how could she refuse him? She nodded helplessly. “Alright, since you want to eat it so much, I’ll accompany you there today.”
“Yay!”
After cleaning up a little, Yan brought him out with her again. As they were heading downstairs, she asked, “By the way, did you send a message to your mommy saying that you’re out with me, Little Bean? Don’t wait until she starts worrying when she can’t find you. I’m telling you, Little Bean; your mommy is pregnant right now. It’s bad for her pregnancy if she gets worried; do you understand?”
He was holding his phone and typing into it furiously. “I know, Aunt Yan. I’m messaging her right now.”
Seeing as he was holding his phone and replied to her cheerfully, she did not bother to ask about the contents of his message. Anyhow, she wasn’t worried about the things he did. As they rounded the corner, they ran into Mrs. Zhang from next door.
Mrs. Zhang smiled brightly at Yan. She opened her mouth to say something, but in the next moment, she saw that Yan was accompanied by a small child. She stopped in her tracks at the sight and seemed to forget what she wanted to say in the first place. “T-This is…”
Not wanting to talk too much to the nosy Mrs. Zhang, yet worried that she might spread weird rumors, Yan had no choice but to explain, “Mrs. Zhang, this is my friend’s son. He just came back from overseas today and decided to come over to my house to play. Little Bean, greet Mrs. Zhang.”
“Hi, Mrs. Zhang.”
Mrs. Zhang seemed overwhelmed by the greeting as she stared at Little Bean. Then, Yan held his hand. “I’m going to bring this kid back to his mother, Mrs. Zhang. We’ll take our leave now.”
Afterward, Yan left with Little Bean. As they walked away, they could hear Mrs. Zhang whispering about something as she looked at them from not too far away. Although they couldn’t make out what she was mumbling about, Yan was sure the words she was saying were unpleasant. Alas, she couldn’t be bothered about it. Thus, she called for a taxi and brought him to the restaurant.
When they entered, he pulled her along to speak to a waitress. The waitress immediately smiled and said, “The third VIP private room, right? Please come with me.” Then, the waitress led them to a private room.
After taking a seat, Yan looked around the big private room, then looked at Little Bean expressionlessly. “Little guy, do you know that we are only here to eat? Why did you have to make such a big spectacle over it? It’s not a good habit to be such a spendthrift at your age; even if you are rich, you need to be careful with your money. Do you understand?”
“I understand, Aunt Yan. I won’t do it again next time.” He stuck out his tongue at her, making an expression that said he understood his mistake and would not repeat it.
She did not continue to scold him seeing as he was aware of his mistakes. Thus, they sat down and began to order. Noticing that he was ordering a lot of dishes, she frowned. “Didn’t I just tell you not to spend your money so carelessly? There’s only the two of us here; why are you ordering so much? How are we going to finish it all?”
He ignored her and continued to convey his orders to the waitress without making any changes. She held in her anger, not wanting to lose her temper in front of the waitress. Once the waitress left, she spoke up angrily, “Little Bean, what’s going on? Didn’t you promise me just now? Why are you…”
“Aunt Yan, you’ll know soon.”
She was dumbstruck. What will I know?
“President Han, please come this way…” Just as she was puzzling over what Little Bean had said, a voice sounded from the other side of the door. The door opened, and a tall, well-built figure entered the private room under the guidance of the waitress.
Yan felt as if her heart stopped the instant she recognized who it was. Why… is he here?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1052
Watching the waitress lead Han Qing into the private room, Yan felt as if her breathing, her heart, and even her brain had stopped functioning—everything seemed to blank out as she sat frozen on the spot. Although it had been a while since they last saw each other, he seemed no different than before. He was tall and broad-shouldered; his face was cold and handsome; his clothes were immaculate, and every button on his suit was neatly buttoned. One glance was enough to discern his scrupulous attention to detail and his discipline.
Meanwhile, Little Bean giggled guilefully by the side. Han Qing’s expression was originally aloof, and he walked in with a neutral expression. Seeming to notice something out of the corner of the eye, he paused momentarily. However, that was the only reaction he showed before he returned to normal and entered the room as if nothing had happened. “This is it, President Han.”
“Uncle Qing!” Little Bean yelled out in his childlike voice as he rushed over, stealing a glance at Yan while he was at it.
Presently, Yan’s eyes were lowered, and her fringe fell forward to hide the emotions in her eyes. From her outward appearance, she looked as if she had lowered her head in embarrassment. Only she was aware of the unease in her heart and the uncontrollable trembling of her hands that were under the table. Fighting her instinct to stand up and leave, she suppressed her emotions and forced herself to remain seated. Why…
It took her so long to erase this person from her heart. During this time, she had made herself busy. Busy enough that the times and frequency she thought of him became less and less—so much so that it was only a matter of time before she put him behind her. Yet, he appeared before her again… and forcefully stirred up the feelings in her heart once more.
She was caught unaware by Little Bean’s plans. No wonder he was typing on his phone furiously just now; no wonder he insisted on coming to eat the steamed fish at this restaurant. When he called her previously, he mentioned that he wanted to eat her cooking, but he changed his mind suddenly—something must have happened in between.
She really was a fool; to think she came here so trustingly, so defenselessly, and without putting much thought into it. What would he think about her? How would he see her? He must find me hateful. After all, he had made his stance clear to her, yet she appeared here again.
She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her at the thought. Fortunately, she was seated; if she had been standing, she was certain her legs would have given out. She did not understand why her resolution was so weak, but… the truth was that she had always been like this. Despite how long she tried, thinking that she had gotten over him, one look at him was all it took for all her efforts to crumble apart.
“Uncle Qing, I’ve already ordered for you, so you don’t need to order anything else.” Little Bean’s voice sounded from beside her, bringing her consciousness back to the present bit by bit. Taking a deep breath, she struggled to calm her turbulent emotions.
“Okay,” Han Qing replied, his voice cool. However, when he faced Little Bean, his voice softened. “When did you return? Why didn’t you let me know? I could have gone to pick you up.”
“There’s no need, Uncle Qing. Mommy mentioned that you were busy with work, so she didn’t inform you about it. Mommy loves you so much; you have to take good care of yourself, Uncle Qing!”
“Sure, I will.”
As the two of them conversed, Little Bean realized that Yan was unusually quiet. He glanced over at her again and found that she still had her head lowered. Blinking his eyes, he couldn’t help asking, “Aunt Yan, why are you so quiet?”
Yan took a deep breath and slowly lifted her head when her name was called. She then directed a carefree smile toward Han Qing. “H-Hi, President Han.”
Han Qing swept a glance at her smiling expression, which looked worse than if she had cried, then nodded faintly. “Hi.”
The distance between them felt almost as if they were strangers. Her hands, hidden under the table, clenched into fists as she lightly bit her lower lip. Based on the time they had known each other, they should not be this estranged, yet… the relationship between them now was worse than strangers. Not to mention this was all due to her unrequited love.
If… If only I did not cling to him all the time and try to push my feelings onto him, things wouldn’t have turned out like this. At the very least, the relationship between the two of them would not be this awkward. That’s not right! In her heart, she shook her head furiously at herself. Yan, how can you still be thinking such thoughts at this point?! Didn’t you decide to put the man in front of you in the past? Then, why are you still sitting here? Are you still planning to have any relations with him? Do you plan to continue this unending, messy relationship with him? Do you want to return to being the hateful Yan who had no self-esteem? No! I can’t continue with this farce! I must leave this place today.
Yan made up her mind to leave after convincing herself. Pretending to remember something, she spoke up suddenly, “I-I just remembered that I have an appointment with somebody else today; I’m about to be late for it. Since you have arrived, President Han, please help me send Little Bean home later, so that his mommy won’t be worried about him. I-I’m leaving now.” At the end of her sentence, she immediately stood up. However, she stood up so suddenly that her chair clattered to the floor. In an instant, her expression changed, and she hurriedly picked up the chair in a fluster.
Little Bean finally noticed that something was wrong, and he wrinkled his little nose. What’s going on? Did I… do something unwelcomed?
“I’m sorry… You can go ahead with your meal. I-I’m leaving…” After picking up the chair, she picked up her bag and strode toward the door. Her steps were hurried and flustered as she escaped frantically.
“Aunt Yan…” he called out. However, she didn’t seem to hear him as she disappeared after leaving the private room.
After this series of incidents, his mood plummeted. As Yan had left, he could only turn his gaze to Han Qing. “Uncle Qing…”
Han Qing gave him a small smile. “Since she has something to do, you should make sure to eat well. After we finish eating, I’ll send you home.” Then, Han Qing poured a cup of tea for him.
Little Bean said nothing in response. I wonder if it is just my imagination, but Uncle Qing seems to be rather moody too!
In the past, he had promised Aunt Yan that he would help her. So, he invited Uncle Qing along for lunch, thinking that he could help them create an opportunity to bond. However, the way they both reacted indicated that something was wrong. Did something I was unaware of happen during the time I spent with my great-grandfather? Little Bean had a thousand questions in his heart, but he didn’t dare to ask Han Qing a single one.
On the other hand, after Yan hurriedly left the private room, she sped up her steps. After walking quite a distance away, she realized that there was no strength left in her legs and she could not go any further. Luckily, a waitress was walking toward her. Stopping the waitress, she questioned, “Excuse me, where is the restroom?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1053
After entering the restroom, Yan randomly went into a cubicle, then she put down the toilet seat and sat on it, trying to calm her mood down. Her heart was clamoring hard in her chest, and her tears threatened to fall. Desperately struggling to keep her tears in, she tilted her head backward to prevent them from falling out.
“It’s just a man, isn’t it? I don’t need him. Sob, sob…” The more she thought about it, the more pained she felt. She reached up to wipe her tears away, but the more she rubbed at them, the harder they fell. In the end, she could not control herself anymore. Covering her face with her hands, she started bawling, her tears flowing down her cheeks freely.
I spent so much effort trying to forget him. So, why does my resolution crumble the moment I see him? I hate this version of myself. I cannot continue in this way; I must be determined, and I must get over Han Qing. I cannot live my entire life dancing in the palm of this man’s hand. That’s right! I’m going to open up my shop and make myself busy. As long as she returned to her hectic days and avoided him, then she wouldn’t think of him anymore.
Yan pulled out a packet of tissues from her bag and wiped away her tears and snot. Then, she came out of the cubicle. When she walked out, a lady came out of the adjacent cubicle at the same time. Her uncontrolled bawling had been heard by the lady. Hence, the lady, observing her red eyes, gazed at her worriedly. “Um, are you okay?”
Yan shook her head. “I’m fine; very fine indeed. Thank you.”
The lady said nothing else. Afterward, Yan washed her face at the sink and reapplied her makeup through the mirror. Once she was sure her face revealed nothing strange, she left the restroom. Then, she left the restaurant, hailed a taxi, and went home.
Sitting in front of her mirror, she looked at her puffy eyes. She went to the freezer and brought out an ice pack to cool her eyes. As she was living at home right now, she had to prevent her parents from noticing anything different about her. Moreover, she had already decided on what she had to do. She simply needed to continue determinedly. Han Qing… I should lock my feelings away forever. The next time we meet, let us be strangers to each other.
Meanwhile, Little Bean ate this meal unhappily. He had not really wanted to eat the steamed fish at this restaurant; it was the truth when he said he wanted to eat Yan’s cooking. However, he put aside his wishes for the sake of her happiness and created a place for Han Qing and Yan to spend some time together. For things to turn out the way they did was completely unexpected. Feeling down, he picked at the food dispiritedly.
Han Qing, who held little interest in food in the first place, only came today because Little Bean had invited him out for lunch. Who could have known Little Bean had such plans in mind? Besides, the young lady had panicked and frantically made her escape at the sight of him. She acted like she never wanted to see him again, treating him like he was the plague. It made his chest tighten for some reason.
While Little Bean was eating, Han Qing didn’t even bother to pick up his chopsticks. After a long while, Little Bean put down his chopsticks and widened his eyes to look at him.
“Are you done?” Han Qing asked.
Little Bean picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth. Looking at so many dishes in front of him, he tentatively said, “Aunt Yan told me not to be so wasteful, but she left before she even had a bite. Among these dishes, there are several that she ordered too. Honestly, how can she be so wasteful herself?” He observed Han Qing’s expression while he spoke, but he was disappointed. Han Qing’s expression remained the same—there were no noticeable changes to it. No matter how hard he looked, he could not derive anything from Han Qing’s expression.
After a moment, Han Qing seemed to think of something and replied in a low voice, “If you don’t want to be wasteful, then we can pack up the ones that are untouched.”
“Who will eat them?” Little Bean asked.
Han Qing glanced over at him, then coolly answered, “I’ll bring it to the company.” The dishes here were of excellent quality; if he sent it to the company as a treat, somebody would probably enjoy it.
“Uncle Qing, are you not hungry?” Little Bean suddenly asked as he placed his chin on his hands. “Did you lose your appetite because Aunt Yan left?”
Han Qing had called for a waitress to pack up the food. When he heard those words, he glanced over at Little Bean lightly, but his voice cooled considerably. “In the future, you shouldn’t do such unnecessary things.”
“Hmph, are you blaming me for it, Uncle Qing? Fine then! Next time, I won’t ask you out to eat with me anymore!”
Feeling a slight headache at those words, he pressed his hand down on Little Bean’s shoulder and made his voice gentler. “I’m not blaming you for anything, however, your actions are making your Aunt Yan uncomfortable. You saw how she reacted just now, didn’t you?”
We finally touched on the main topic. Little Bean grabbed onto his hand, trying to get to the bottom of the situation. “Did you do something to offend Aunt Yan, Uncle Qing? Is that why she ran off the moment she saw you?”
Offend her? Back then, she wanted to come, but he did not allow her to. Besides, with what he did to her while they were abroad, she must have given up on him. This is… for the best. His complexion looked poor, but he forced out a faint smile. “Maybe I did; I’m not too sure myself. Still, you shouldn’t do these things anymore, Little Bean. I don’t mind if you want to meet with her, but don’t drag me along, alright?”
Little Bean whined, “Why? Do you not like Aunt Yan, Uncle Qing? I want her to be my aunt.”
At the mention of the word ‘aunt’, Han Qing subconsciously scowled and roared angrily, “Don’t you dare speak of such nonsense again, or I’m going to be angry.”
Little Bean said nothing. Not expecting Han Qing to snap at him so fiercely, he was frightened into silence. Han Qing quickly noticed that he had gone overboard when he lashed out with his temper. Little Bean was just a child who understood nothing and knew nothing. How could he lose his temper at a child?
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that. Have you eaten your fill? If not, why don’t I bring you somewhere else to eat something you like?”
Little Bean seemed slightly vengeful, and he deliberately said, “Then, please send me to Aunt Yan’s house. I want to eat her cooking.”
Han Qing said nothing in response.
“If you don’t want to, then forget it. I don’t want to go home; I’ll go to her house myself.” Then, Little Bean turned around and ran out.
Han Qing was pushed to the edge by the little guy. He knew that if he left him alone, the little guy would run off to look for Yan by himself. He was worried that something would happen if such a young boy was running around by himself. Giving in, he called out to the boy. “Wait for me; I’ll send you to her place when I’m done here.” Only then did Little Bean stop in his tracks with a satisfied expression.
Once all the food had been packed, Han Qing carried the bags downstairs, then drove Little Bean to Yan’s place. When they reached their destination, Little Bean looked around at the familiar surroundings and exclaimed, “Uncle Qing, how did you know that Aunt Yan lives here? Except for when Aunt Yan brought me here just now, this is only my second time here.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1054
Han Qing remained silent, the look in his eyes was dark and obscure. Then, he leaned over and unfastened the seat belt around Little Bean. “Go on; go to your Aunt Yan.”
Little Bean did not move. Instead, he lifted his head and looked Han Qing straight in the eye. “You have not answered my question, Uncle Qing. How did you know this is where Aunt Yan is staying?” His expression indicated that he refused to leave until he received an answer.
Thus, Han Qing pursed his thin lips expressionlessly. “With my abilities, it’s not hard for me to figure out where a person lives. If you understand, then get out of the car. I still need to head back to the company.”
“But, I don’t know which unit Aunt Yan is staying in. Can you bring me there, Uncle Qing?”
Han Qing glared briefly at Little Bean. This little guy is pushing his luck—give him an inch, and he’ll take a mile.
“Uncle Qing is all-knowing, so you must know which unit Aunt Yan is staying at, right? Please bring me there, Uncle Qing; I don’t dare to go by myself.” Then, Little Bean threw himself onto Han Qing’s arm and refused to let go; he was acting coy on purpose.
If he didn’t send Little Bean to Yan’s door, he probably wouldn’t stop acting out, but if he did… In truth, Han Qing didn’t know which unit she was staying at either. After a brief consideration, he opened the car door and got out together with Little Bean. Excitedly following behind Han Qing, Little Bean thought his uncle would bring him to Aunt Yan’s house immediately. To his surprise, Han Qing brought him to the security guard to ask for information instead.
Little Bean was disappointed. What? Seems like he really did not know.
After confirming it with the security guard, Han Qing brought him there.
After Yan arrived home, she sat in front of her dressing table in a daze. Later, she applied an ice pack to her eyes. Once she saw that her eyes were not as swollen as before, she finally let out a breath of relief. Although her eyes were still reddish, it would be better by the evening. By then, her parents would not notice anything different about her.
It was still early, but Yan had lost her motivation to do anything else, so she went online to browse for decorations for her store. Mr. Lin was an affable man; he might not allow her to make renovations, but he didn’t mind additional furnishing. After entering the website, she browsed intently. Thus, time passed quietly.
Ding-dong. When the doorbell rang, Yan was stunned, and she lifted her head from the screen. Was it her imagination? Did the doorbell ring? She glanced at the time. Who would come at this hour? Is it Mrs. Zhang from next door?
Placing the mouse down, she got up to open the door. When she opened the door, she froze at the sight of the person standing in front of the door. “Little Bean?” Why is he here? Isn’t he eating with Han Qing at the restaurant? Why…
“Aunt Yan!” As Little Bean called out to her, he glanced over at the figure standing by the stairs out of the corner of his eyes. When they heard the sound of footsteps approaching from inside the house, Han Qing had withdrawn to the corner. At the same time, he told Little Bean to keep mum about his presence there so that nobody else would find out.
Although Little Bean did not say a word about it, his eyes kept glancing over to where he stood. Scowling subconsciously, Han Qing knew that if this continued, things would go awry. So, before she noticed him, he quickly entered the elevator and left.
Sure enough, Yan noticed that Little Bean’s expression was odd. She seemed to realize something and was about to inadvertently stick her head out to look. However, another possibility came to mind, and she froze—not daring to take another step forward.
“Aunt Yan!” he called again, pitifully.
Coming back to her senses, she smiled brightly and moved aside. “Since you’re already here, why don’t you come in?”
There was a trace of disappointment in his eyes. He did not expect Uncle Qing to leave so quickly. Moreover, she seemed to have no intention to go out to take a look. Just what happened recently?
Upon entering, Yan quickly closed the door. He wasn’t sure whether it was his imagination or not, but he felt that Aunt Yan had slammed the door shut rather forcefully.
“Little Bean, is there anything you want to drink? Shall I pour you a glass of juice? No, the weather is too cold for juice; it’ll be bad for your digestion. I’ll make you a cup of warm milk tea instead.” She finished her sentence and entered the kitchen without waiting for an answer from him.
For a while, he stood there blankly. Then, he finally moved his short, little legs and headed toward the kitchen. Leaning against the door of the kitchen, he watched as she made him a cup of milk tea; he could tell that she seemed really unhappy.
“What’s wrong, Aunt Yan?” he asked. In the end, he couldn’t stop himself from blurting out the question.
Her hands froze while making the milk tea. The only answer he got from her was a long silence that dragged on—so much so that even the air seemed to become quiet. After a long time had passed, she poured the milk tea into a cup and walked toward him. The milk tea was steaming in the cold air, making her expression in the rising steam seem blurry.
“Here.” She bent down slightly and pushed the cup into his hands. “Be a good boy and drink this. You’ll feel warmer after drinking this. Coming over at this time, you must not have eaten yet. Shall I make something for you to eat? Hmmm, how does a simple bowl of noodles with some meat sound?”
“Aunt Yan…” Little Bean couldn’t bring himself to smile, nor could he answer her. He instinctively felt that, despite her smiling expression, she looked as if she was in great pain. Reaching out his hands, he touched her face lightly. “Stop smiling, Aunt Yan.”
Yan’s smile froze in place, then her eyes reddened. However, she quickly noticed that she was losing control of her emotions, so she hurriedly turned her back to him before her tears could fall. “I’m fine, Little Bean. It’s just that… in the future, I can’t be your aunt. You won’t blame me for that, will you?”
Saying nothing, Little Bean simply hugged the cup of milk tea to his body.
“In the beginning, I thought of becoming your aunt so that I had a justifiable reason to spoil you even more. However, now that I think about it… I can continue to spoil you without becoming your aunt. In the future, if you miss me, just give me a call. I will immediately pick you up. Nevertheless, your Uncle Qing is a busy man; something like what happened today should not happen again in the future, okay?” She tried to make it sound as neutral as possible—as if it had nothing to do with her.
Little Bean became upset upon hearing those words. “Aunt Yan, have you given up?”
She froze. Given up? That’s right; it’s time for me to give up after being delusional for so long. If I don’t give up now, I will lose the last bit of self-esteem I have left… If that happens, how can I continue to live on?
Be that as it may, Yan did not want to force her sorrowful emotions on Little Bean. Therefore, she replied in a light voice, “It’s not that I’m giving up, alright? I just realized that there are many other interesting things in life. Besides, I’m going to open my own shop soon; I’m going to be very, very busy. With all that’s going on, I won’t have the time to be thinking about becoming your aunt.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1055
This time around, Yan was certain that she could give up. If it was before, she might not have been able to walk away from a situation like today. However, she could now control herself from overstaying her welcome in front of him, and she could stop herself from searching for him. As long as she remained steadfast, she would be able to put Han Qing behind her.
“Aunt Yan—”
Little Bean seemed to want to say something else, but she quickly cut across his words. “That’s enough; you’re just a kid who doesn’t understand many things yet, so don’t say anything more. I’m going to cook something for you now. Bring that cup of milk tea with you to the living room and drink it slowly. I’ll call you when I’m done.” With that, she closed the kitchen door without waiting to see his reaction.
It was obvious that she did not want him to ask further questions. Moreover, she looked so sad and so hurt that he did not dare to continue speaking about it. He quietly carried the milk tea into the living room. The milk tea that he normally enjoyed drinking had lost its flavor and its sweetness; instead, he became tired of the taste after several sips.
Putting the cup down after several sips, he turned his gaze toward the closed kitchen. Should I tell her that Uncle Qing was the one that brought me here just now? And that he knows where she stays?
However, based on her current state, he did not know whether she would feel worse if he told her about it. Suddenly, it was difficult for Little Bean to make a decision. Bad Uncle Qing! He must have done something to hurt Aunt Yan. Nonetheless, he did not know what had actually happened, and she would definitely refuse to tell him.
When Yan brought out the noodles, she had managed to sort out her emotions. At the sight of his untouched milk tea, she became surprised. “What’s wrong? Is the milk tea not good?”
He hastily replied, “That’s not it! It’s very tasty, but I’m afraid I will be too full to eat the noodles if I drink too much. So, I left some space in my stomach for the noodles!”
Yan burst out laughing at that, then she reached out and pinched his cheeks. “Oh, you! Oh, well, that’s fine too; knowing the importance of the main dish is a good thing. The noodles are ready; hurry up and eat.”
While he was eating the noodles, he studied her expression and noticed that she looked as if nothing had happened. Thus, he became even more afraid of speaking the words he wanted to say, for fear of saying something that would remind her of her pain.
“Oh, right; while I was cooking the noodles, I gave your mommy a call and told her that you were with me. You naughty brat! Why did you lie to me saying that you had already informed her? If I didn’t call her, she wouldn’t even have known that you had left the house!”
He slurped on his noodles and grunted in reply. It was not as if he had intentionally wanted to keep it from his mommy, he just didn’t want to intrude on his parents’ alone time together.
“You can’t do this again. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Aunt Yan.” Continuing to eat, he suddenly asked, “Aunt Yan, are you opening your own shop?”
“Yeah.” Yan nodded. “I’m opening a ramen restaurant. What you are eating right now is my newest product. Can’t you tell that the taste is different from before?”
Little Bean immediately exclaimed respectfully, “Oh, is that so? No wonder it’s so tasty! When your shop is open, can I go to your shop every day to eat your noodles, Aunt Yan?”
“Of course! When the time comes, I won’t charge you for it; you can pay for it with labor instead.”
“Labor?” He tilted his head to the side slightly.
“That’s right.” She smiled. “For example, you can help me wash the dishes, serve the customers, or even clean the tables.”
“Hmm?” He tilted his head further to the side. “Washing the dishes and cleaning the tables? Are you asking me to be a waiter, Aunt Yan?”
Yan was only joking with him, but looking at his serious eyes as well as his expectant expression, she began to imagine it in her mind too. Then, she burst out laughing. “That’s right! When the time comes, I’ll prepare a special waiter’s uniform for you. Once you put it on, you can stand by the doorway and attract customers. Wouldn’t that be great?”
Little Bean’s eyes shone brightly. It sounds like a lot of fun! “When the time comes, can I choose the color myself, Aunt Yan?”
“Hmm?” She blinked. “You’re taking this seriously? I was just joking with you. If I let you wear a uniform and stand by the door to attract customers, people will think that I am a child abuser.” Reaching out her hand, she ruffled his head lightly, then said softly, “When the time comes, you just need to come to my shop to play, Little Bean. You don’t need to help out.”
When he looked at her acting like this, for some unknown reason, he suddenly felt so upset that he wanted to cry. Something he was not aware of must have happened recently, and it caused the relationship between Aunt Yan and Uncle Qing to fall apart. The little cogs in his brain spun furiously as his thoughts fell down the rabbit hole, and he began to imagine all sorts of stuff in his head. He thought, Is it because I forced Aunt Yan to bring me abroad, but Uncle Qing assumed that she was the one who wanted to bring me there? Thus, he became angry at Aunt Yan, and that was why they fought? At the thought of that possibility, he felt his heart tighten. Is it really because of me? This time as well; I made her so sad again.
Although she did not show it, it would be a pity if she did not become his aunt. He felt like crying just thinking about it. However, these thoughts were simply the nonsensical thoughts running around in his head. He did not mention a single word, nor did he reveal any of it on his face.
Time flew by quickly; Yan rushed to send Little Bean back to Seabay Villa before the night was over. The security guards standing by the entrance to Seabay Villa stepped forward to greet Little Bean when they saw him return home.
The boy tugged at her hand. “Aunt Yan, won’t you go in to see Mommy? Mommy must miss you a lot.”
“I miss your mommy too, but I need to deliver the food to the hospital. We still have lots of chances in the future anyway, so I won’t be going in today. Be a good boy and go home, Little Bean. I’ll come and pick you up again tomorrow. How about that?”
Alas, he nodded his head, then he watched as she got into the car and left.
“Welcome back, Little Young Master.”
Little Bean lifted his head to look at the guards greeting him. The sorrowful look on his face dissolved and was instantly replaced with a bright expression; he smiled at them as he greeted them. “Hello, misters.”
“Oh, what a good boy you are.”
“That’s right; Little Young Master is so well-brought-up. Compared to the spoiled brats of other families, he is so much more friendly.”
Turning around the corner, Little Bean waved at them. “I’m going in, misters.”
Han Muzi had become more and more lethargic recently. Furthermore, her appetite had been poor. Despite how hungry she was, the moment food entered her mouth, she lost her appetite immediately. Therefore, she had been starving for the past two days, but she could not eat a single bite.
She was craving spicy hotpot and all sorts of street snacks from the roadside stalls. However, Ye Moxuan would never allow her to eat those. After all, it was common knowledge that roadside stalls were unsanitary. Yet, people were still willing to eat there to satisfy the cravings and desires of their stomachs.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1056
It was not an issue to have some of these from time to time. Even if it was arsenic, it would be ignorant to only be concerned with its toxicity and not the dosage. As long as one did not eat too much of it and too often, having them for one or two meals would not be harmful. Even so, Ye Moxuan did not allow her to eat these things because they were not hygienic and contained preservatives.
After seeing that Han Muzi did not indeed have the appetite, one of the maids suggested that they could perhaps make it themselves at home as it would be more hygienic when they prepared it themselves. They would just have to put in some effort. In the end, Ye Moxuan nodded.
Just as Han Muzi was about to dig into the mini hotpot, it occurred to her that Little Bean was not back yet. When she decided to give Little Bean a call to ask him when he would be coming home, she saw a little figure come in from the entrance. “Little Bean?”
“Mommy!” Little Bean called on Han Muzi before going up to her to hug her.
“Why isn’t Aunt Yan with you?” Han Muzi glanced behind him.
“Mommy, Aunt Yan’s father got into a car accident and is now at the hospital. She needs to go there to send him food.”
Sitting there, Han Muzi was shocked by what she heard as if she had just received a heavy blow to the back of her head. “W-What are you talking about? Yan’s father got into a car accident? And he’s at the hospital?”
Little Bean nodded. All of a sudden, Han Muzi felt weak. She let go of Little Bean and stood there, seemingly getting ready to run outside.
“Mommy!” Now that it was only Little Bean and her in the house, when Little Bean saw that she was about to run out, he grabbed her. “Where are you going? Aunt Yan has already left, so even if you go there now, you won’t be able to meet her.”
Han Muzi stopped and tried to take a deep breath to calm herself down. She then asked, “So what’s the situation now? Little Bean, tell me everything you know.”
“Okay.”
After Little Bean told Han Muzi what he knew, she was relieved. Though she let out a sigh, she still felt sorry for Yan whenever she thought about what happened to her last time. At that time, Yan must have felt utterly miserable, but she refused to meet up with her. Since Han Muzi was Han Qing’s younger sister, she dared not show up whenever she wanted in front of Yan. She would only meet with Yan if the latter asked for it.
But now? After she heard that Yan received such saddening news about her father while she was already at her most vulnerable, Han Muzi, as her best friend, felt that she should have been there with her. How did she make it through this time?
Thinking about that put Han Muzi in pain and rendered her unable to utter a single word.
“Mommy?” After Little Bean noticed that Han Muzi did not look good, he quickly consoled her, “Mommy, please don’t think that Aunt Yan intentionally hid it from you. She feels that since you’re having a baby, telling you about what happened will only make you worry. That’s why she decided not to tell you. Also, Uncle Zhou is recovering well. So, Mommy, please don’t worry anymore.”
Han Muzi came back to her senses. That’s right, Uncle Zhou is fine now, and I shouldn’t worry anymore. I just feel sorry for Yan.
I’ve just been talking about what happened to Uncle Zhou, and look how sad Mommy is. There’s no way I’d be able to tell Mommy about how Aunt Yan and Uncle Qing met today and how that broke Aunt Yan’s heart.
Little Bean proceeded to help Han Muzi walk to the couch.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry. In the future, you can go and spend time with Aunt Yan on my behalf—will you do that for me?” Han Muzi felt good about that idea. At most, she could send Little Bean to a private school later on.
The next day, after Yan had finished cleaning the house and was about to pick Little Bean up, the bell rang. She opened the door and found Little Bean standing right in front of her.
“Good morning, Aunt Yan!” Little Bean tilted his head, letting out a naïve yet sweet smile.
Yan looked confused and glanced behind him. “H-How did you get here?”
“Mommy told me that it’s too tiring for you to go back and forth every day. So, starting tomorrow, the driver will be driving me, and you don’t have to come all the way to get me again.” As Little Bean finished, he added, “And the driver will be with us all day long. You can go anywhere you like.”
These words somewhat touched Yan, who was surprised by how attentive Muzi was. “Please help thank your mommy. That’s very thoughtful of her.”
“Hmph. If there’s anything you wanna say to Mommy, call her yourself!”
Yan chuckled. “Okay. I’ll give her a call later today.”
After the two had arrived at the hospital to bring food for Mr. Zhou, Mr. Zhou was overjoyed to see Little Bean, whom Luo Huimei was also fond of. Standing next to the couple, who was seen holding Little Bean’s hands while talking to him, Yan was annoyed and shook her head.
At this juncture, Yan’s phone rang, and she answered it. “Ah? Coming in today? Alright, alright. I’ll be there to open the door, and thank you for helping to send them over. Don’t worry, mister; I’ll compensate you for that. You guys have worked hard.”
Hanging up the phone, Yan stood up and commented, “The furniture I bought is here, so I’ll have to head to the restaurant now. Dad, Mom, please help look after Little Bean for a while.”
At this moment, Little Bean stood up and said, “Aunt Yan, let me go with you.”
“Go with me? But… I’ll be back very soon. Besides, the restaurant is not in operation yet. There’s nothing for you to see there.”
“Just go. Huimei, go with little President Ye and Yan. And please take good care of little President Ye. The hospital isn’t a good place, so I’ll just stay here by myself. We don’t need the kid to stay here and let him catch a virus.”
Yan did not respond. Couldn’t he have put it nicer… Even so, she knew he did not mean it that way. What he was trying to say was that the hospital was a place for patients to rest.
“Dad!” Yan shouted and frowned, feeling displeased.
Mr. Zhou could roughly figure out why his daughter was frowning. So, he quickly waved his hand. “Go, go, go. Go together. Come back only after you’re done for the day.”
Luo Huimei blinked and proceeded to stand up.
“We should all go. Your dad has been recovering well and can now get off the bed by himself. We’ll only be gone for a short while, and we can just ask the nurses to help keep an eye on him.”
Looking at how stubborn Mr. Zhou was, Yan nodded. Then, Yan brought Little Bean and Luo Huimei to leave the hospital together for the ramen restaurant. After they called it a day, Luo Huimei parted ways with Yan—she went back to the hospital while Yan brought Little Bean home to make dinner.
Yan’s initial plan was to send Little Bean home right away so that she could go back home and make dinner. But at this moment, Little Bean went to the trunk and took out a small duffel bag while winking at her.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1057
“Are… you planning on staying over?”
Little Bean blinked innocently. “May I, Aunt Yan?” He had already informed his great-grandfather that he would be spending some time with Aunt Yan before going back to be with him.
As Yuchi Jin had not been back for a long time, his daughter Song An had been accompanying him recently. At least he still had his daughter by his side now that his great-grandson was not around. Even though his daughter was harsh and was rarely nice to him, her presence was enough to make him happy.
“Of course, you can stay here as long as you want.” Then, Yan helped Little Bean carry his duffel bag and brought him upstairs. Coincidentally, she ran into the nosy Mrs. Zhang from next door. “Oh, dear! Yan, is your friend’s son here again?”
Yan nodded mechanically and forced a dull smile. “Mrs. Zhang.”
“Hi, Mrs. Zhang.”
Mrs. Zhang’s eyes were all over Little Bean’s face. At last, she turned her glance to the duffel bag in Yan’s hand. “This is…”
Yan awkwardly hid the duffel back behind her. “Just some little things, Mrs. Zhang. I think Mrs. Wang is waiting for you downstairs. You don’t want to be late for the square dance, do you?”
Seeing that she was reluctant to divulge, Mrs. Zhang mumbled something and left.
When they were at the door, Little Bean was slightly worried. “Aunt Yan, is that Mrs. Zhang going to talk behind your back?”
“What can she say?” She can’t possibly turn things around, can she? Besides, I’m not the kind of person who cares about what people think about me. If I were that kind of person, I wouldn’t have been best friends with Muzi when everyone in the company disliked her.
Standing there, Little Bean poked his index fingers again and again. He whispered, “Aunt Yan, perhaps… I should just go home.”
Yan was startled. She continued, “What are you talking about? Do I care about what others say? You’re staying, and what others say is not our business. Why do you care when I don’t even care?”
After Yan finished, she pushed him into the bathroom and got him some clothes for him to change into. “Alright. Go and take a shower. After we finish our dinner, you’ll just stay home while I go to the hospital. You can watch TV before you go to bed.”
Little Bean was rendered speechless after being made known of the arrangements for tonight. I don’t wanna watch TV, and I don’t wanna go to bed early either.
Good news would never go beyond the gate, while bad news tended to spread far and wide. No one knew if it was out of jealousy or something else, but the news about Yan taking a child home spread throughout the entire neighborhood like wildfire.
Yan’s parents had many old friends in this neighborhood as they had lived here for a long time, and those who lived in this neighborhood had been around since ages ago. Even though they might not be close to everyone, they would still smile and greet each other whenever they saw each other on the streets. Then, they would start showing off and talking down on each other, after which they would pretend to go home with a laugh.
As time went by, everybody would know how many daughters and sons each family had as well as their occupations. They would talk about the good as well as the bad. They would praise those who were deemed successful and make fun of those who were not doing so well. This was the late afternoon gossip for many.
As such, the news that Yan brought a child home had spread like wildfire in a short time. Before she realized it, everyone had caught wind of it. Yan moved abroad for five years just to get cast away by her boyfriend. Now dejected, she moved back with her child.
When Luo Huimei told Yan about what had been going around, Yan became furious. I got cast away? And I brought a child back with me? If this news came to Young Master Ye, he would be furious; if Yuchi Jin heard about this, he would probably flip and shake up the entire North City—how could his beloved great-grandson become someone else’s child?
Yan did not know whether to laugh or cry over this ridiculous news.
“Initially, Mrs. Zhang wanted to matchmake you. But seeing that you brought a child with you, she no longer wants to do it as she thinks you might get despised,” Luo Huimei added, not knowing how Yan was feeling.
“Mom! Little Bean is not my child. You know that!”
Luo Huimei nodded ignorantly. “I know that, but they don’t! Had I not known that you weren’t capable of giving birth to such a gorgeous child, even I would’ve wondered if he’s your child since you’re keeping a child at home like that.”
Yan was rendered speechless. Whatever. Just let me bang my head against the wall.
“I believe you, but the others don’t. Besides, what matters to those people isn’t whether or not Little Bean is your son, but the fact that you brought him home.”
Her words silenced Yan. She’s right. Those people don’t care about the truth. Even if someone tells them the truth, they wouldn’t buy it. They only believe what they choose to believe in and then continue to deceive themselves that the child is indeed mine. After that, they’ll tell the others that I brought home a child from my previous relationship.
Yan was frustrated. She reckoned that people would gossip about it but she did not foresee that it would be this ridiculous.
“What’s your plan now? Are you still going to let him stay with you?”
“Mom, what do you mean? Little Bean is just a kid. He doesn’t know anything. If I were to send him home just because of these gossips, wouldn’t that hurt him?”
Luo Huimei moved her mouth and nodded in agreement. “I feel so too. After all, facts speak louder than words. We should just go along with it and ignore what they say.”
“Mom, don’t you mind?”
“Why would I? Since you’re not desperate to get married, why would I mind? Besides, this news has already spread to every corner. There’s nothing I can do.”
She’s right. Even though the rumors are ridiculous, they would save me a lot of trouble. If everyone thinks that Little Bean is the child that I brought home from my previous relationship, then I won’t have to be worried about matchmakers.
At this point, Yan shrugged. “Fine. I’ll just let them be. Doesn’t matter to me anyway.”
“Tsk.” Luo Huimei clicked her tongue. “I was still discussing with your dad two days ago that you might never get married. Now, I feel like there’s a real possibility of that happening.”
Yan responded, “I can still make money and feed myself. Marriage is not a route in life that I must take.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1058
“Look at you—what’re you talking about? Marriage is one of the greatest things in life; why is it not a route that one has to take? Let me tell you; if you haven’t found the love of your life and don’t get married, then so be it. But, if you deliberately stay unmarried for the rest of your life, I’ll be the first to beat you to death.”
Yan was rendered speechless. Whatever. I’m just going to stop telling them about how I feel. And who says that I don’t want to get married? I do want to—but only with the person that loves me and that I love back. Only a marriage like that would be a happy one. But now, the person I love does not love me back. I feel I’ll never fall for another person other than Han Qing for the rest of my life. Maybe I might end up being unmarried.
“There’s still a long way to go for you since you’re still young. Stop thinking about all that nonsense. Once you reach a certain age, you’ll find that there are no setbacks too great for you to overcome. Life is full of ups and downs.”
Speaking from experience, Luo Huimei was able to see the bigger picture of things. After all, Yan was her daughter, and she could tell how different she had become ever since she came back. Just that, as a mother, there were certain things that she would not want to ask; things that were too private and sensitive.
“I understand, Mom. Let me go check on Little Bean to see if he’s up.” Yan went to wake Little Bean, who had been following her around these couple of days.
Since Mr. Zhou found out that Little Bean had moved in, he had been pestering them to get him discharged. It was obvious why Mr. Zhou wanted to get discharged, but his injuries had not fully recovered, so Yan and Luo Huimei would not let that happen so soon. For this reason, Mr. Zhou became moody for a long time. He would stare at Yan faintly each time she went to send him food and ask her when he could be discharged.
This incident made Yan chuckle each time she thought about it as she did not expect her father to be this childish. To prepare for the grand opening of the ramen shop, Luo Huimei decided to pick a special day, but it seemed like there was no such day until next month.
That would mean that they would have to wait until next month for the grand opening.
Being impatient, Yan wanted to quickly get the business up and running, so she could distract herself from all the nonsensical thoughts. “Can we just skip picking a special day? Dad still has one more week before he gets discharged. We can pick the day when he gets out of the hospital as that’ll be a special day.”
Luo Huimei gave it a thought. “I can pick him up from the hospital and head to the shop directly.”
Yan nodded. “Sure.”
A week later, the shop was all ready. For the grand opening, Luo Huimei bought some firecrackers which Yan thought were too dangerous, so she sent them back and got a refund. In the end, she purchased some balloons and flowers instead.
Since the contract had been signed, Yan did not spare any money and hired two assistants to help her out. Besides, special grand opening deals were underway today. For example, if one snapped a picture of the food and uploaded it on Instagram, they would be entitled to a free meal as long as they had 88 or more likes on the post. This deal was valid if the total price of the meal was within 500. Anything in excess would have to be borne by the customer.
There were also some gifts to be given out so long as one spent a certain amount. Yan had been staying up late to work on all these promotions. Even though the dark circles around her eyes were evident, she was still in good spirits on that day.
She had also lost considerable weight in these past few days. Yan did not have an oval-shaped face, but a round one. After she lost weight, her cheeks had become angular, which made her features, especially her eyes, stand out more. Even though she looked somewhat thin and pallid, she was more stunning than before.
After picking up Mr. Zhou, Luo Huimei headed to the ramen shop. When they were getting out of the car, Luo Huimei charged Mr. Zhou, “Please be careful! You’ve just got discharged. I don’t want you to fall and get admitted to the hospital again.”
Mr. Zhou remained silent. She’s a good life partner in every aspect if it wasn’t for her words! Can’t she say something nicer?
Mr. Zhou staggered and almost fell as he started walking. Seeing this, Luo Huimei quickly went up to support him before starting to scold him again. “Look at you. What did I say earlier? Be careful so you don’t fall and get admitted again. See what happened—you almost fell! You’re lucky I’m here to save you.”
Mr. Zhou was rendered speechless. I wouldn’t have fallen if you hadn’t said that! As much as he wanted to say this, he thought he should just remain quiet so that they would not get into a fight in public.
Customers had started flooding in when they two arrived at the shop. Looking at the design and renovation work, Mr. Zhou nodded in approval. “I like this style. What did Yan do to get a place in this golden area at such a rate?”
Luo Huimei thought otherwise. “What do you mean by what she did? Didn’t I tell you everything already? That Mr. Lin doesn’t need the money, so the high rent that he set was probably to deter those who have ulterior motives from renting this place. Our capable daughter managed to leverage on the fact that Mr. Lin misses his wife dearly.”
“That’s strange. How do you think Yan managed to tell what was on Mr. Lin’s mind? Even if she did, how could she be entirely sure about it? Perhaps she knows what it feels like to miss someone close to her heart.” Mr. Zhou was trying to convey something. They glanced at each other and were well-coordinated in not responding to one another.
“Dad, Mom, you’re here.” Seeing the two from the inside, Yan quickly came out and held Mr. Zhou by his arm. “How’s everything? Did the doctor say anything? Are you feeling much better today?”
“Nothing much. He just told me to get some more rest at home. Also, I’m not allowed to do any physical exercises any time soon.”
Upon hearing that, Yan let out a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”
“Where’s little President Ye?” The first thing Mr. Zhou asked about after he glanced at his daughter was to ask about the whereabouts of Little Bean. This annoyed Yan as her dad did not come here straight out of the hospital for the grand opening, but to see Little Bean.
“Dad, you can just call him Little Bean as I do. Please don’t address him as little President Ye. It’ll sound odd if the customers hear that.”
Mr. Zhou nodded. “Sure. He won’t hold it against me, would he?”
“What are you talking about? He’s just a kid. After all, he’s been calling you Uncle Zhou. Stop with all that nonsense.” Then, Yan helped Mr. Zhou walk to a chair to have a seat and poured him a glass of water.
However, Mr. Zhou was looking around for Little Bean. Seeing this, Yan commented helplessly, “Alright, Dad. Stop looking around. Little Bean’s helping out in the kitchen.”
Mr. Zhou’s eyes widened as he heard that. “Helping out? Helping out with what? Yan, you’re not mistreating little President Ye, are you?”
“Why would I mistreat him?” She could never mistreat Little Bean because he was so smart and witty. However… she felt like recently he had been going through something as he was a lot more obedient than usual.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1059
Yan thought to herself that his behavior might have something to do with the incident with Han Qing last time. The thought of Han Qing slightly saddened Yan, who then hid her sadness away and whispered, “Dad, you can just sit here with Mom. I’ll go inside and have a look.”
Seeing that Yan was going in, Mr. Zhou was about to tag along, but he was stopped by Luo Huimei. “What are you doing? Just stay here. You just got out of the hospital.”
Mr. Zhou remained silent. He had no bargaining power whenever it came to Luo Huimei, so he simply remained seated. At this moment, Luo Huimei noticed a few figures walking in from the entrance. She commented, “Customers are here. I’ll go and attend to them. Please sit here and don’t go anywhere else.”
“Go, go.”
Even though Luo Huimei stood up, Mr. Zhou was still staring in the direction where Yan went. It was obvious that he was looking for Little Bean, although he was just a kid. But that kid was Young Master Ye’s child, and Mr. Zhou had never expected her daughter to be so close to Young Master Ye’s son and wife. The knowledge of this somewhat comforted and delighted him. My daughter is doing much better than I am.
“Welcome. Please come in.”
Han Muzi came together with Ye Moxuan, and it was Xiao Su who drove them here. After seeing that Xiao Su was the driver, Han Muzi began to murmur inwardly, He’s so sneaky. Even though he doesn’t want me to meddle with the affairs between Han Qing and Yan, he still brought Xiao Su into the picture. He’s lucky that Xiao Su is here now. Otherwise, I’ll be losing my temper. Han Muzi was planning on dealing with Ye Moxuan after this.
When they walked in, both Xiao Su and Ye Moxuan had gifts in their hands, but Ye Moxuan was looking indifferent and dignified. Besides, Xiao Su also had an arrogant vibe on him. That must have been acquired from working with Ye Moxuan all these years.
Luo Huimei’s heart jolted slightly after looking at them as she felt that these two men were not to be messed with. She only greeted them after seeing the smiley face of the petite woman standing next to them.
“Hello, Aunt Zhou.”
Luo Huimei was surprised.
“Today is the grand opening of Yan’s shop, so we’re here to back her up. These are our gifts.” As Han Muzi finished, she beckoned Ye Moxuan to pass on the gifts. Looking indifferent, Ye Moxuan passed the gift in his hands to Luo Huimei.
Only then did Luo Huimei look up at Ye Moxuan. After getting a clear view of his face, she was startled. Oh my goodness! How on earth can two people resemble each other so much?
This gorgeous looking and tall guy in front of her looked almost exactly like Little Bean. Luo Huimei could tell as she and Little Bean had grown considerably close after spending some time together. And now, all of a sudden, there was this person that looked exactly like Little Bean.
Luo Huimei looked at Ye Moxuan before turning to the smiley and sweet Han Muzi. She then came to her senses. “Y-You’re Muzi, aren’t you?”
This caught Han Muzi off guard, as she had never met Yan’s mother. Judging from her look and age, Han Muzi thought that she and Yan looked somewhat alike, especially their eyebrows. But Han Muzi did not expect Luo Huimei to recognize her. “Yes, Aunt Zhou, I’m Muzi. Previously, did you…”
“Hi. Are you going to ask me if I have met you before? How else would I have been able to recognize you, right?”
Han Muzi nodded with a smile on her face.
“I’m afraid I haven’t, and this is my first time meeting you. But I’ve been listening to Yan talk about you, and… now Little Bean lives with us. He and…” At this juncture, Luo Huimei paused and looked at Ye Moxuan. As she did not know how to properly address him, she began to sound a little constrained in her voice. “You look really alike. That’s how I figured it out.”
“I see.” Han Muzi nodded in agreement. “Auntie, that’s observant of you.” Right after that, she pulled Ye Moxuan by his sleeve. “He’s Little Bean’s father, and his name is Ye Moxuan. Aunt Zhou, you can just call him Moxuan.”
While looking indifferent, Ye Moxuan could feel that his wife was pulling his sleeve harder than usual. He moved his lips and let out a gentle smile.
“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Zhou. My wife is right. You can call me Moxuan.”
Luo Huimei had seen many interactions between a husband and wife, but she was surprised to see how obedient he was to his wife. She reckoned that this guy in front of her was the President Ye that Mr. Zhou had always been talking about: a resolute, decisive, and merciless businessman.
“Oh, and Aunt Zhou, these are the gifts.”
“You’re too kind! I’ve always heard about you from Yan. I just want to thank you for taking care of Yan all these years.” Luo Huimei quickly warmed up to Han Muzi after taking her to be a friendly person. She even went up to her and held her by her hand intimately before taking her into the shop. “Let’s have a seat. We’ll talk more inside.”
“Sure.” Han Muzi let go of Ye Moxuan’s sleeve and walked into the shop with Luo Huimei. After she loosened her grip, Ye Moxuan felt somewhat disappointed. He shook his head helplessly as he watched his wife walk away from him. She ignores me right after achieving her intentions. But still, he quickly followed suit.
Mr. Zhou was seen sitting in his seat and waiting. All of a sudden, he heard footsteps and turned around to look in that direction. The next second, he froze. “P-President Ye?” Am I seeing things? Is this the after-effect of the car accident? Why am I seeing President Ye and his friends here at this small ramen shop? No. That mustn’t be the after-effect. There must be reasons why he’s here. Little President Ye is here, after all. Hence, it makes sense.
However, Mr. Zhou proceeded to stand up, looking excited. “President Ye.”
“Manager Zhou.” Ye Moxuan passed to Mr. Zhou something he brought with him. “I’ve heard about the car accident. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to make time to come and visit you at the hospital. This is just a token of my regard to you.”
Looking at the gift bag, Mr. Zhou put out his hand shakingly and did not dare to take it from him. “This is…”
“Uncle Zhou, this is an apology from Moxuan and me. We really didn’t know that you were hospitalized. Otherwise, we would’ve visited you. We’re truly sorry.”
Han Muzi came to know Mr. Zhou as he was the manager of the finance department. They had interacted on several occasions at work.
At this moment, Mr. Zhou was on cloud nine. The cold and indifferent President Ye actually came to this small ramen shop owned by his daughter and gave him a gift as well as an apology. Even so, the President’s wife…
“Muzi?” Yan said, sounding surprised. She stood at the back of the shop and looked at Han Muzi surprisingly. “Why didn’t you give me a call to come and get you?”
“It’s the shop’s grand opening day. How could I ask you to leave your shop to come and get me?
Having not seen Yan for such a long time, it ached Han Muzi’s heart to see how much weight Yan had lost.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1060
“We’ve got a lot of people working here. Besides, I’ve also hired some extra pairs of hands.”
Han Muzi looked around at the interior of the shop that was completely Japanese with some Chinese elements; the dark-colored lanterns hanging all over the ceiling looked sophisticated. Han Muzi felt that as long as one sat in this shop to eat something, no matter how the food tasted, one would have a special feeling. “The interior of this shop—”
“Mommy, Daddy, I didn’t know you guys were coming!” A naïve and pure voice sounded out.
Having been interrupted, Han Muzi turned to look in the direction of that voice. Holding a small plate in his hands, Little Bean looked at them while standing there adorably. The sight of the work uniform on Little Bean surprised Han Muzi. The uniform that he was wearing had a cute design, which made him look even more adorable.
Seeing Little Bean in this attire melted Han Muzi’s heart. All that she wanted to do at this point was to pull him into her arms to give him a big cuddle. He looked too adorable!
But there were too many customers there at Yan’s shop, so it would not be appropriate for her to do this right now. Therefore, Han Muzi had to hold it in.
“How does it look? Isn’t the uniform that I especially tailored for Little Bean adorable?” After knowing Han Muzi for so many years, Yan could instantly see the excitement and emotions in the former’s eyes. When Yan first saw Little Bean in this uniform, she too was extremely excited and took many pictures of him in different poses until he could no longer take it.
“Mm-hmm!” Han Muzi nodded continuously in agreement with Yan. “It’s so wonderful!”
Little Bean walked around with some dishes in his hands while saying, “Daddy, Mommy, please wait here for just a minute. I’m going to deliver the food.”
“Of course.” Han Muzi waved at him from behind and whispered, “Please be careful.”
All of a sudden, the crowd had all of their eyes on Little Bean. When he finished delivering the food, three young girls at a table exploded with excitement.
“Oh my goodness! This kid is so adorable! Do you work here?”
“D*mn! How can such an adorable and good-looking kid work here? It doesn’t make sense!”
“Little cutie, can we take some pictures together?”
Little Bean rejected them politely. “I’m afraid I can’t, pretty ladies. My mom might get jealous.”
“That’s sad. This little handsome man just rejected me. I’m going to kill myself and none of you are going to stop me,” one of the girls commented.
“Don’t worry. We won’t! You can go in peace since you’ve already met such a good-looking boy.”
“You guys are horrible! It hurts my feeling to know that my friends don’t care about me!”
The girls at that table were all school-aged. They were energetic, youthful, and enjoyed poking fun at each other.
Watching from afar, this scene reminded Han Muzi of her days back in school when she was still with Meng Xueyou. Back in the days… when everything had not happened yet. Meng Xueyou and she used to be… so close. However, time passed and things changed.
Just as Han Muzi was wallowing in her sadness, a cold voice came out from behind her. “He’s going to work here?”
Everyone reflexively turned and looked in the direction of the voice as they heard it. It was Ye Moxuan, looking indifferent. His tone was so dull that they could not sense any emotions.
Who would have the audacity to guess what was on the mind of the president of the Ye Group? Except for Han Muzi, no one in the shop dared to speak up. It was the same for Yan, who used to work at the Ye Group for so many years and had been good friends with Han Muzi. She could never forget how scary Young Master Ye was. No matter how gently and affectionately Young Master Ye looked at Han Muzi, that was reserved for her. Other than her, no one else was entitled to that treatment.
So, after Ye Moxuan uttered these words, apart from Han Muzi and Xiao Su, everyone present looked terrified. Yan, in particular, was flurried by his words and quickly responded, “No, of course not. He’s merely here for two or three days because he thinks it’s fun here. Young Master Ye, you must be joking. How would I ever let Little Bean work here? Little Bean… doesn’t belong here.”
When Han Muzi came to her senses, she frowned and stared at Ye Moxuan, displeased. To Ye Moxuan, it was merely a passing comment and he did not try to imply anything. It was probably the vibe he gave out that terrified everyone else. Seeing Yan respond to him so nervously, lowly, and frighteningly, as her best friend, this situation annoyed Han Muzi.
Looking at Han Muzi’s stare, Ye Moxuan felt helpless and let out a sigh. “I was simply asking. Please don’t be nervous.”
The crowd remained silent. Mr. Zhou and Luo Huimei quietly looked at each other.
After Han Muzi took care of the situation created by Ye Moxuan, she grabbed Yan by her arm, smiling happily. “Don’t worry; I feel that it might be good for him to stay here and get some real-life experience. I’ll let Little Bean stay here to help you out.”
The corner of Yan’s mouth twitched and she responded awkwardly, “No, Muzi, I can’t do that even if you agree to it. Little Bean will only stay here for a couple of days to have some fun until he needs to go back to school. I’m not going to stop the future of the country from learning. Besides, child labor is illegal.”
Everyone understood that, albeit tacitly.
“Sure. That sounds good. It’ll be nice for him to spend some time with you for a couple more days before going back to school. There’s no rush.” Han Muzi patted Yan’s hand, indicating to her that there was no need to be nervous about this matter.
Earlier on, Yan was indeed frightened by Ye Moxuan. But after seeing how quickly Han Muzi was able to turn the situation around, she felt relieved. “Thank you, Muzi.”
Yan leaned forward and whispered something in her ear. Han Muzi was about to respond when, through the corner of her eye, she noticed Xiao Su, who was standing by the side. He had been here for a long time but did not manage to say a word to Yan. Whilst here, his eyes had constantly been on Yan. Ain’t I heartless if I don’t do anything to help them out at this moment?
After all, Xiao Su had rendered a lot of help to both Ye Moxuan and her. At this juncture, Han Muzi commented, “Please don’t be so polite with me. I’ll just leave our gifts on the table, and I’ll do a little bit of exploring. Are there seats on the second floor?” Han Muzi grabbed Ye Moxuan by his sleeve. “Let’s head to the second floor.”
Of course, Ye Moxuan acceded to her request. “Sure.”
Before the two left for the second floor, Mr. Zhou and Luo Huimei had not taken their eyes off them even once. Until…
“Xiao Su? I didn’t know you’re here too!”
Yan knew had noticed him long ago, but seeing him reminded her of what happened when they last met, including the horrible things that she said to him. She was not sure how much those words had hurt him.
