Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1111
Ye Moxuan remained silent upon hearing that. What’s on her mind that she can’t tell me directly?
Seeing Ye Moxuan frown while looking deep in thought, Song An decided to remind her nephew, “Use your analytical thinking in business to ponder on Han Muzi’s situation right now or try to think in her shoes. You’ll probably know why.”
Again, Ye Moxuan remained silent upon hearing that.
“Okay, my task is completed now. I’ll be going to meet the old man back home since he just texted me.”
Silence fell in the room at night as the husband and wife lay on the bed quietly; Han Muzi had her back facing Ye Moxuan, who sighed internally as he looked at the woman in front of him. Although she had allowed him to enter the room, it was pitch dark as soon as Ye Moxuan entered. The lamp was not switched on and even the curtains were closed, causing him to see nothing at all.
Ye Moxuan asked in a low voice without moving, “Why didn’t you switch on some lights?”
Han Muzi immediately replied, “It won’t hurt my eyes with all of the lights switched off.” In fact, it was just an excuse that she used. She never had the habit of switching off the lights while sleeping as she woke up in the middle of the night to go to the washroom, so it was quite necessary for it to be switched on.
Song An gave Han Muzi a lot of advice, and even though the latter had listened to them, the mental block she experienced never completely disintegrated.
In the end, Ye Moxuan found his way to the bed without uttering another word. Han Muzi wasn’t asleep yet as she felt a little sorry for Ye Moxuan. After all, he did nothing wrong yet she often threw temper tantrums at him. As she bit her lips, a warm body closed in on her. His breath huffed on her neck immediately, making her feel slightly itchy and she cowered subconsciously.
“What’s wrong?” A low and hoarse voice rang from behind her. Han Muzi cowered again and moved away from him a little yet he leaned into her once more effortlessly. “Have I done something wrong? You were just fine two days ago, weren’t you?”
Although Song An asked Ye Moxuan to think about what might have happened, he had no clue on what he did to infuriate Han Muzi. The only possibility was that he neglected her and focused too much on his company. “Is it because of the company? The meeting last week was extremely important, so I left for a while. As soon as the meeting ended, I immediately returned. If you aren’t comfortable with that, I will cancel all meetings at the company for this period to accompany you whole-heartedly.”
The more considerate he was, the more Han Muzi felt distressed because Ye Moxuan treated her well enough yet she was as willful as a child. By looking into the mirror, she realized how ugly she looked and she didn’t want to face him because of that. Before this, she already heard that pregnant women would become more emotional, but she refused to believe that. Now, it completely came true. She had always thought that she was quite confident, but, in the end, she still… “It’s not because of that.” Han Muzi denied that while shaking her head.
In order to keep her company, Ye Moxuan had already canceled most of the meetings—apart from the very important ones. Apart from that, he never participated in any other events. Ye Moxuan initially wanted to hold the wedding, but Han Muzi was unwilling to wear the wedding dress with a big belly. However, she never expected that she would gain more weight after that.
“So, what is going on? Can you tell me?” Seeing that she had finally spoken, Ye Moxuan asked in one go. He inched forward toward her and leaned on her back while caressing her belly gently with his huge hand. “I’m your husband—the closest person to you. If you can’t even confide in me, who else can you talk to?” he coaxed her patiently in a gentle voice. With Song An’s earlier advice and Ye Moxuan’s words, the mental barricade in Han Muzi’s mind slowly disintegrated. Then, she apologized to Ye Moxuan in a low voice.
He froze for a while before laughing out loud. “You don’t have anything to apologize for. You never have to apologize to me.”
“Actually…” Han Muzi hesitated for a while, thinking on how to phrase her sentence before opening her mouth again. “A few days ago, when I looked at myself in the mirror, I realized that my figure had gone out of shape…”
“Yeah?” As a straight man, Ye Moxuan never found anything wrong with her sentence. He had no idea how much women cared about their figures and he never knew that most of them were constantly on diet all year long just to look good. Although many people never succeed in doing that, it never affected their endurance as they would start over again and again.
“Do you think that I’ll lose my figure after delivering the baby and be ugly forever?”
“How could that be? You managed to maintain your figure after you had Little Bean, didn’t you?” At that time, Ye Moxuan had no clue that she bore his son as he couldn’t tell that she had delivered a child just by her looks.
Although he never knew what changed in a woman who gave birth, Han Muzi felt like the way she used to be in the past. “You wouldn’t understand.” Han Muzi sounded slightly frustrated. “When I had Little Bean, I didn’t look like this at all.”
At that time, her limbs weren’t as thick as they were right now. Her belly was just a tad bit bigger and she was only slightly rounder. After the delivery, she also returned to her normal figure pretty quickly. However, seeing how she turned out right now, she had no idea whether she could return to her previous figure. “What if I continued to remain this way after childbirth?” Han Muzi was immensely worried about that. “By then, how am I going to wear the wedding dress and how are we going to hold a wedding? More importantly, after I become ugly, everyone will definitely laugh at me when I stand next to you…”
Ye Moxuan remained silent upon hearing that. It never occurred to him that she had so many worries in her mind. If she didn’t tell him now, he never knew that she worried about this. Initially Ye Moxuan never could understand her fears, but after he thought about it in her perspective, he finally understood why she cared a lot. If he himself had become less than what he had expected of himself, he definitely would have such thoughts when he stood next to her as well.
After hearing Han Muzi’s thoughts, Ye Moxuan felt that he understood what went on. “Who will laugh at you? If they do so, they are deliberately going against me and I won’t let them have a good life,” Ye Moxuan responded in a firm tone that was quite protective of Han Muzi. “If this is not good enough, how about me accompanying you?”
Han Muzi didn’t understand his words in that instant. “What do you mean?”
“If you think that you have become uglier, I shall follow suit so that we’ll be ugly together.”
Han Muzi was speechless when she heard that. Although she never wanted to drag him down, she couldn’t help but ask curiously, “But how will you do that? You can’t have babies…”
Ye Moxuan smiled. “It’s simple—I’ll just disfigure myself or I gain a lot of weight with you.”
When he spoke about disfiguring himself, Han Muzi was shocked beyond belief. Moreover, he said in a nonchalant way as if he never cared about all that. Just the thought of it infuriated Han Muzi. She scolded him immediately, “What nonsense are you talking about? Disfiguring yourself? What are you going to do to your face?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1112
“If my disfigurement would increase your confidence, I don’t mind disfiguring myself.” Ye Moxuan’s large hand went around her to entwine their fingers together. His voice was husky when he spoke again, “To me, you are the most important thing here. I don’t care what others think.”
Han Muzi’s heart skipped a beat when she heard that. That’s right… We are the most important people to each other. Why does it matter what others might think? Nevertheless, I care what Ye Moxuan thinks. Right now, he’s saying that he is willing to disfigure himself just to stay with me and to give me more confidence. In that case, what other excuses do I have?
Han Muzi grabbed his hand when she thought of it and Ye Moxuan chuckled when he felt her grip. He tightened his grip around her small hands in return. “What happens now? Are you still planning to resist me in the future?”
Han Muzi shook her head. “I will stop resisting.”
“Will you still feel that you aren’t worthy of me?”
Han Muzi continued to shake her head. There is no such thing as being worthy of each other when it comes to relationships. It only matters if a person is deeply in love with their partner and that they are together willingly. “I won’t.”
Ye Moxuan was satisfied by both of her replies, but he persisted with another question. “In that case, shall we switch the lights on?”
“Ye—” Han Muzi noticed that something was amiss before she could finish her sentence and she stopped right in time. She felt her skin crawl and changed her answer immediately, “No, don’t switch the lights on!”
“Ha!” Ye Moxuan chuckled quietly before striding forward to press his thin lips against the back of her head. He kissed her softly and his kisses felt like feathers. He was gentle when he coaxed her patiently like a child, “Be a good girl. Let’s switch the lights on. Otherwise, it will be inconvenient for you when you wake up in the middle of the night.”
I always wake up in the middle of the night to sneak to the bathroom because I don’t want Ye Moxuan to notice me. Who would have thought he knew about it all along? In fact, he’s stating it so openly now. It’s true that you can’t hide secrets from those who are close to you. I am already being so honest with him. I shouldn’t act like a hypocrite. “Well… switch the lights on then.”
“Good girl.” Ye Moxuan kissed the back of her head again before releasing his grip. Then, he turned to the side to switch the lights on at the bedside table.
The warm and dim light filled the entire room. After switching on the lights, Ye Moxuan leaned against her to hold her hands tightly. Then, he lifted her long hair up while feathering the back of her neck with light kisses. “Good girl, let’s sleep.”
“Okay.” Han Muzi nodded in contentment before closing her eyes.
Han Muzi was already exhausted to begin with, so she fell quickly asleep in less than a minute after closing her eyes. This was possible since nothing bothered her anymore—as opposed to previous nights when she couldn’t fall asleep due to her worries.
Ye Moxuan lay in bed for a while, but he soon heard Han Muzi’s steady breathing. A trace of smile flashed across his deep and dark eyes. She fell asleep so fast. I think she must have really opened up. Nevertheless, this issue is truly my fault because I realized the problem too late. If I had noticed and understood the problem much earlier and discussed it with her openly, I wouldn’t have had to stay alone in the guest room for the past few days.
…
After delivering takeouts to Han Qing that day, Yan started to send him meals on a daily basis at the Han Group. In the beginning, the receptionist wanted to be cautious and would phone to ask for confirmation with Su Jiu being the one to always answer the call.
In the end, Su Jiu instructed the receptionist directly, “President Han says to let Miss Zhou in straight away in the future.”
The receptionist was shocked and she glanced at Yan in confusion. Who would have guessed that a takeout delivery worker would be allowed to enter the Han Group as she pleases? Besides, she’s even allowed to enter President Han’s office as she likes. There are countless people in our company trying to get closer to President Han. In the end, they all lost to a takeout delivery girl.
The receptionist relayed the message to Yan with jealousy. Once Yan left, the receptionist started to gossip about this matter in her chat group. After learning about this, the girls in the chat group were frustrated.
‘Isn’t that miserable? Why do food delivery workers have such great benefits nowadays? I wouldn’t have gotten into finance if I had known about this. I would have delivered takeout instead!’
‘Tsk, what are you talking about? How is it possible for a food delivery worker to have a more comfortable job than yours in the finance department?’
‘My dear friend, you don’t see the big picture here. Are you aware of who President Han is? If a food delivery girl is able to approach him, why am I still working in the Finance Department? I should just go ahead and take the place directly as the President’s wife!’
‘Well, it will only work if he wants you.’
‘I-I-I… I want to deliver takeout too! Boo-hoo! Don’t you think its benefits are too good to be true? Besides, aren’t there always rumors that our President Han has no interest in the opposite gender? He is already so old, but he’s never had a girlfriend before. Furthermore, I have to gossip about something with all of you.’
The women in the chat group immediately asked what it was.
‘Well, it’s about Su Jiu! I’ve heard that she’s always been in love with President Han in the past. However, since he does not fancy women, she never made any proactive move. I’m guessing she was planning to stay by his side in silence until he develops feelings for her. Who would have thought that President Han was unmoved despite interacting with such a beautiful woman throughout the years?’
Many people knew about this and it also broke many women’s hearts. After all, everyone knew how brilliant Su Jiu was. That woman had outstanding capabilities, a great figure and a beautiful face. Hence, she served as a lesson for others and almost eighty percent of the women in the Group subsequently gave up on Han Qing. Later on, most women were similar to Su Jiu. Some fell in love when the time came whereas some even got married. Women no longer bore hope for that useless man, Han Qing.
Who would have expected a takeout delivery girl to show up in the middle of nowhere? This is such a humiliation! We would rather die than be disgraced!
‘Tell us! What does the food delivery girl look like? Is she pretty? Does she have long legs?’
The receptionist tried to recall Yan’s appearance. She has a petite figure, and she looks pretty and pleasant enough. At a quick glance, she doesn’t seem to be that attractive, but once you pay more attention to her, she looks gorgeous. In fact, she radiates positivity, a youthful spirit and energy. Besides, she is especially young. She is the kind of woman whom you might think isn’t pretty enough, but you’d wish that you looked like her. The receptionist daydreamed about that. She is overflowing with a youthful spirit after all. Why is that, though? She is full of vigor and vitality. Damn it! Why would such a successful man like President Han fall for such a young girl??
The receptionist was extremely jealous at that thought and she sent a reply without thinking further. ‘I can’t recall what she looked like.’
‘Damn it! This is disappointing. How ordinary does she look if you can’t even recall her appearance? My dear friends, I have no objections to being defeated by Su Jiu. In fact, I wouldn’t complain if President Han refused to be in a relationship. However, are you able to accept it if you lose to an ordinary-looking food delivery girl?’
‘We can’t accept that! We definitely cannot accept that!’
‘What time is she coming over tomorrow? Let’s have a look at her!’
After that, the receptionist informed everyone on the time that Yan usually dropped by. Something struck her after that and she warned them, ‘Although she is not in an official position, she has been personally given the right by President Han to enter the Han Group as she pleases. It’s fine if you guys want to observe from afar, but please don’t plan something horrible and drag me along.’ I’m the one providing them with the venue and timings after all. If something were to happen, as the receptionist, I’d be the first to be reprimanded. I’m not stupid. After all, the person who takes the lead would bear the brunt in the end.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1113
‘Don’t worry. We just want to have a look at the girl you mentioned. We are merely curious, so why would we plan anything horrible?’
‘That’s right. You are just being too careful. You shouldn’t have told us about this if you are afraid. Why didn’t you keep it to yourself instead of telling us?’
The receptionist started to regret her decision after reading their comments. Maybe I should have kept it to myself without telling others. I’d be the first to be blamed if something were to happen tomorrow. Nevertheless, she made peace with herself as she wanted nothing more than to see Yan defeated tomorrow.
Yan had been going to the reception room during the past few visits because Han Qing would be working most of the time. However, she fell asleep again in the reception room yesterday. In the end, other guests were astounded when they saw her lying on the couch after their arrival in the reception room. After that extraordinary incident, Han Qing instructed Yan to head to his office directly in the future to wait for him. He had a lounge in his office anyway.
Yan was unable to find her way the first time she looked for Han Qing’s office, so she was extremely nervous. After walking out of the elevator, she bit her lower lip softly while taking deep breaths to encourage herself. However, she bumped into Su Jiu the minute the former stepped out of the elevator.
Su Jiu smiled at Yan, although she wasn’t surprised to see the latter at all. “You’re finally here!”
Su Jiu greeted her like an old acquaintance. For some reason, Yan blushed the moment she saw Su Jiu because she felt slightly awkward around the latter. She felt that Su Jiu was an exceptionally smart woman, as though the latter might see through her with just a glance. Hence, she knew that her thoughts wouldn’t escape Su Jiu’s eyes.
Naturally, I wouldn’t be worried if others were to read my thoughts. However, Su Jiu was in love with Han Qing once upon a time ago. In fact, she was in love with him for a very long time. I learnt about this from Muzi. At that time, Su Jiu was not married, so I figured Han Qing and Su Jiu would end up as a couple over time. My feelings for Han Qing weren’t as deep at that time—I just had a slight crush on him. If Han Qing had ended up together with Su Jiu, I would most probably have given up. Who would have expected Su Jiu to give up first? Besides, she got married swiftly and gave birth soon after. I witnessed everything happening in the past with my own eyes. At that time, I even thought to myself that it was such a pity for Su Jiu not to end up with the man whom she’s been in love with for a long time. Now that I’m in a similar situation, I have a completely different outlook on things. I’m suddenly envious of Su Jiu because she is always bold and forward with her feelings. She never wavered when she was in love with him, but once Su Jiu decided that she was no longer in love with Han Qing, her feelings for him dissipated. After getting married, she has worked on her marriage tirelessly and raised her child well. Furthermore, the most impressive thing was that she never neglected her work at all.
Su Jiu was such an outstanding woman, so Yan felt rather ashamed of herself compared to the former. “Yeah.” She nodded while smiling shyly.
Su Jiu glanced at the woman in front of her, who wore a navy blue sweater paired with a knee-length skirt. Yan’s silky long hair hung loose around her shoulders. Not only did she appear youthful, she even looked charming.
When Yan smiled at Su Jiu, her eyes and expression reflected her shyness, looking especially adorable and charming. Su Jiu had never possessed these characteristics. Does it mean Han Qing likes this type of woman? I have to admit that he has good taste because even as a woman, I can’t help but feel that Yan is adorable and I want to protect her. “Great news. President Han ended a meeting today just before you arrived. He doesn’t have anything else scheduled after, so you can spend some time alone with him.”
Yan suddenly felt embarrassed when she heard that and blushed while explaining to Su Jiu, “No. It’s not what it looks like. I’m just—”
“Just what?” Su Jiu asked her in amusement.
“I’m just here to deliver food.”
“Is that so?” Su Jiu grinned while walking around Yan. After that, she stopped beside her before leaning over to whisper in the latter’s ear, “There are so many people offering delivery services, so why does President Han only orders takeout from you?” After that, Su Jiu noticed Yan’s fair ears started to turn pink. For some reason, she wanted to tease her badly. “Besides, President Han brought back a cell phone and he asked me to send it to a repair shop to replace the original screen. The phone case looked very cute, so I assume it belongs to you?”
“What?” Yan looked up in surprise. “It was sent for repair?” She had dropped by daily for the past few days, but she lacked the courage to ask Han Qing what he did to her phone. Hence, she thought to herself, I’ll just buy a new phone if he doesn’t return mine by today. It’s just a phone after all. It’s nothing compared to the business deal he lost. I didn’t expect him to send the phone for repair. However, repairs don’t usually take such a long time.
Judging by Yan’s confused look, Su Jiu almost thought that the phone didn’t belong to the former. “What is it? Isn’t the phone yours?”
Yan admitted honestly, “I-I think it is. My phone case is pink in color, but… do repairs take such a long time?”
Su Jiu sighed helplessly. “Well, you’d have to blame the owner of the repair shop. They hired a new staff and it so happened that I ran into that person on the day I visited the shop. He promised to prepare a bill for me after the repair. However, when I dropped by the next day for the phone, he completely forgot about this matter, which is why it’s been delayed several days because there are some tests to be done after the repairs. President Han even reprimanded me over this matter.”
Su Jiu’s gaze at Yan darkened when she mentioned this with a severe tone, “I’ve worked with President Han for such a long time, but I’m rarely reprimanded by him.”
Yan felt slightly at a loss for words when she heard that because Su Jiu sounded as if the latter was complaining about her. If it weren’t for your phone, Han Qing wouldn’t have reprimanded me. Nevertheless, judging by Su Jiu’s gaze, she doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would say such things.
“What is it? Do you still not get it?” Seeing how nervous Yan was, Su Jiu couldn’t help but pinch her soft cheek. “I’m saying that this is the first time he’s reprimanding me over something that isn’t work related. However, I’m not angry. I’m just trying to tell you that you are special to him.”
Yan’s heart skipped a beat. S-Special?
“You should know about my past too. We even chatted when we were abroad previously. I recall that I told you something long-winded that time. Looking back now, you are actually about to succeed.”
“No, no, no!” Yan waved her hand in denial. “This is all a misunderstanding. President Han does not feel that way about me. He has rejected me countless times. Besides, I’ve decided to give up on him. In all honesty… I’m delivering food for him because I owe it to him.” Lin Xuzheng mentioned that Han Qing lost such a huge business deal because of me. Han Qing is merely asking for me to deliver takeout, so he’s not going overboard at all. Furthermore, I haven’t even returned him the money paid for my medical fees yet.
After being reminded by Su Jiu, Yan felt that she needed to work harder to return Han Qing the money. Besides, she recalled she had some savings stashed away in her bank account.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1114
“You owe it to him?” Su Jiu cocked a brow, suddenly feeling as if she wasn’t privy to the entire matter. However, she never planned on finding out more on it and instead flashed a quick smile to Yan. “Alright, I won’t ask further. Continue walking forward and the last door is President Han’s office.”
“Thank you.”
“I’m going for lunch now.” Su Jiu waved at Yan before leaving immediately.
Once Su Jiu left, Yan marched forward and followed the given instructions. She walked along the corridor until she arrived at the last door and since it was closed, she had no choice but to knock on the door.
“Enter,” a deep, gravelly, male voice answered from the other side of the door. Yan felt butterflies in her stomach when she heard his voice, which made her nervous. However, she collected herself swiftly before pushing the door open.
Han Qing still stared at the computer screen. He had answered automatically when he heard a knock on the door earlier and never bothered looking up to check who it was. Instead, he expected whoever it was to present themselves. After all, this was the norm in his office.
However, Han Qing waited for some time and he noticed that his office was exceptionally quiet. It was when he looked up that he saw a young lady holding a bag. She stood obediently in front of his desk while observing him nervously. Ah, so it’s her. No wonder it’s so quiet.
“You’re here,” he stated.
Yan nodded earnestly while stammering, “W-Well, this. Shall I p-put this… on the office desk?”
Han Qing recalled clearly when Yan used to be energetic whenever she was around him. In fact, her eyes would gleam brightly whenever she sees me—just like the glint in animals when they see something they wanted. Her eyes used to reflect the simple and sincere feeling of charging forward. It’s so sincere and truthful that it feels slightly scary. But now, the young lady is avoiding my gaze and she’s always stuttering when she speaks to me due to her nervousness. She looks extremely uncomfortable. I must have affected her. Han Qing was upset by his thoughts. Should I even summon this young lady over if she is reduced to such a state in front of me where she’s unnatural, nervous and scared? Do I want to be the person stripping her of her youthfulness and vigor? He thought of something as he stood up. “There’s a table here,” he stated softly.
Yan had no choice but to follow him and she placed the bag on the table. Since she had bumped into him in his office, Yan asked after placing the bag down, “In that case, I’m placing the food here. If there’s nothing else, can I take my leave now?”
The handsome man across the table looked up while focusing on her face, noticing that she phrased her question tentatively. Han Qing regarded her in silence and his gaze was sharp. “Are you very scared of me?”
Yan hesitated before answering timidly, “N-No.” I’m just nervous because I’m afraid he might do something. Besides, I’m still feeling embarrassed after what happened previously.
“Why are you in such a hurry to leave if you’re not scared of me?”
Yan was again left with no choice but to sit on the couch in front of him to prove that she was not scared at all. She placed her hands on her knees while maintaining a proper sitting posture—just like a student. “I’m not in a rush to leave at all. I just figured I shouldn’t hang around to disturb you since you’re having your meal soon. I don’t mind sitting here if you don’t think I’m a bother.”
“Okay.”
I can’t believe Han Qing did not reject me. He’s having his meal in front of me right now. In fact, he looks elegant when he eats. The outline of Han Qing’s handsome side profile is especially prominent. His thin lips keep opening and closing while he chews and they are of a slightly darker color. Nevertheless, it’s not an ugly color. On the contrary, it suits his temperament. Yan was lost in her thoughts as she stared at him and somehow naturally recalled that time when she forcefully kissed Han Qing in the past. I used to be a bold and fearless young lady in the past. I‘ve always worked harder after his rejection and I wouldn’t feel dejected at all. However, it’s a different story altogether now. I’m horrified by my actions. If I were to fall for someone else, I would never do something like that again because I won’t do things that will cause me to lose my self-esteem. It’s true that for certain things, one would lose their courage once they have to try again.
Han Qing suddenly looked up when Yan stared at him. Their gaze met coincidentally and she was rendered motionless for about three seconds before she looked away hastily. Yan tried to appear nonchalant and casual, but her ears were already flushed.
Han Qing stared at her for some time, and realized that the pink hue had spread from her ears to her neck. She’ll most probably look like a boiled prawn if I continue to stare. He commented softly when he thought of that, “The box on the table is for you.”
Box? Yan took a quick glance at the table. True enough, there was a small paper box on the table and it looked especially pretty. The first thought that flashed across her mind was, Is Han Qing giving me a present? She responded in the manner that corresponded with her thought process, so she waved while dismissing him, “No need for that. There’s no need for that at all. You don’t have to give me anything. I haven’t even returned my medical fees from that day, so—”
“It’s your phone,” Han Qing clarified by interrupting the young lady.
Phone? Huh?? Yan wrecked her brains and suddenly felt embarrassed. It turns out that is my repaired phone! Su Jiu had already mentioned this when I was on my way here. I can’t believe it slipped my mind. I can’t believe I assumed that Han Qing wanted to give me a present when I saw the box… She blushed in the color of blood at that thought. Hence, she picked the box up abruptly while opening it in a hurry. True enough, it was her repaired phone placed neatly in the box.
“It’s been delayed by several days, but the phone is back to its normal function.”
Yan’s throat felt as dry as dust due to her fumbling earlier. Hence, she merely smiled with a nod. “T-Thank you. So sorry to have bothered you. How much is the maintenance fee? I will return it to you together with the medical fees.”
Han Qing ignored her once she started asking about money. Instead, he lowered his head to enjoy his food.
Yan sat motionless on the couch while feeling dazed. Why would he give me a present? I’m such a ridiculous person and I’ve embarrassed myself in front of him once again. Yan, can’t you remain calm? Why are you always so useless like how you are right now?
“However, I didn’t bring any money with me today. I’ll have the money prepared for you tomorrow. There’s still work in the shop, so I’ll—” Yan explained while standing up, but Han Qing looked up to stop her just in time. “Why are you in such a hurry? I do have a gift for you.”
Yan was rooted to the ground while she stared at him in astonishment. “What are you saying?”
Han Qing put down his chopsticks before he stood up and took a box from the top of the shelf, handing it to her. Yan did not have the courage to accept it initially. Instead, she regarded Han Qing with suspicion. “What is this?”
“There’s a banquet being held the night after tomorrow. Would you like to go?”
Yan was rendered speechless when she heard that.
“Keep that. Inform me beforehand if you would like to go. I will not force you if you are unwilling to attend the event.”
Yan finally regained her senses when she heard that. Hence, she looked up at Han Qing while asking him, “Are you… asking me to attend a banquet with you? Is it a dress… in the box?”
“Yeah.”
Only then did she reach out to accept the box. However, she was so nervous that she lacked the courage to open the box. Han Qing couldn’t help but break into a tender and warm smile when he saw her holding onto the box like it was a piece of treasure. “Why don’t you see if you like it?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1115
Later on, Yan wasn’t even sure how she left the Han Group building or how she had returned home. However, when she arrived home and finally sat down, she still felt as if nothing that happened today was real. Maybe this is all happening in my dream. Otherwise, why would Han Qing ask me if I like the gift in such a gentle tone? He sounded like a boyfriend pampering a girlfriend in a loving tone. In fact, he sounded extremely loving. How useless am I? My determination crumbled when I heard that. I couldn’t even answer him, so I turned around to flee. By the time I ran out of the Han Group building, I realized that I still had my arms wrapped around the box.
She was extremely excited and opened the box carefully, noticing that it was a pure white dress designed in a style similar to that of a wedding gown. She took the dress and ran into her room before checking her reflection with the dress in front of the mirror and just couldn’t stop admiring how beautiful the dress was.
Yan had been in the fashion design industry with Han Muzi for a very long time, hence, she knew most of the famous designers. She recognized the dress immediately as one from a famous designer from W Country. The designer’s work favored women designs and he had a prominent personal style as well. He never catered to the mass market—in fact, he has mentioned before that he only designed clothes for young girls. He did not have a fetish nor was he malicious toward women from other age groups.
On the contrary, it was because his fiancée passed away at 18 years old due to cancer. That beautiful young woman fought cancer for three years, but she passed away in the end. She wore the dress designed by the designer when she passed on and he thought that it was the end of his world at that time. He was sure that he would never design another dress.
However, his beautiful fiancée had told him, “My darling, your designs are the best in the world. I don’t have any regret passing away while wearing the best designer’s dress. You shouldn’t abandon your career for me because you are a designer with a soul. That is why you should never give up in the future.” Later, the designer explained that his fiancée loved his work. They were, in fact, betrothed to each other from a very young age, as they were best friends since childhood.
Rumors had it that his original plan was to have his fiancée wear a wedding gown that was personally designed by him once she became a legal adult. After that, he’d marry her at her most beautiful age. The designer always ended up in tears at the mention of his late fiancée. He claimed that his fiancée was a beautiful and kind woman. She clearly suffered from cancer, but she always lived her life with a smile. She knew that the designer loved designing, so she insisted that he never give up—even when she was on the brink of death. The designer felt as though he had wronged his fiancée, but he did not want to disappoint her.
Yan felt helpless when she first learned about this story because it happened to the designer forty years ago. The designer was now an old man and he never married. He still designed dresses until now, and he had been designing wedding dresses for young girls all the while. He was adamant on keeping his promise to his late fiancée, persisting to the end until his death.
Yan lamented when she recalled the designer’s story. It isn’t so bad if I didn’t have him as a comparison. In comparison, I believe that I’m happier than him. At least I’m not separated from the person whom I love by death. I suppose that would be the most horrible thing. Does it prove what Lin Xuzheng and Su Jiu said now that Han Qing gave this dress to me? Maybe… I am special to him. My hard work did not go to waste. Maybe I should give it a shot for the final time. This time, I want to conquer his heart.
…
It was during dinnertime that Luo Huimei realized her daughter kept snickering while keeping her head bowed. Yan seemed distracted and she held onto her bowl of rice while having the occasional spoonful. She seemed oblivious and uninterested in the dishes that Luo Huimei spent a long time cooking. Luo Huimei squinted at Yan before tapping Yan’s bowl with her chopsticks.
Yan snapped back to reality while blinking innocently at Luo Huimei. “Mom, what is it?”
“Are you unhappy with the dinner I prepared tonight?”
“Huh?” Yan looked bewildered while she shook her head. “I am not unhappy about it. Why do you ask, though?”
“If you’re not unhappy, why aren’t you eating it?” Luo Huimei pointed at the dishes on the table. Then, she looked at Mr. Zhou. “Well, Zhou, please stop being so engrossed with your meal. Can you please pay some attention to your daughter? Just look at how thin she has become, but she’s only having rice without the dishes. Can you please be concerned about her?”
Mr. Zhou asked reflexively since he was accused out of nowhere, “How am I not concerned about my daughter? It’s trendy among young women nowadays to lose weight. I figured she thinks that she’s fat and that is why she wants to be thinner.”
Mr. Zhou never wanted to control his daughter too much now that she was an adult and he was sure that she had her own opinions. I controlled Yan too much in the past and that caused me to be estranged from my daughter for five years. That is why I believe that Yan should do whatever she wants as long as she is happy. Nevertheless, he advised her since he needed to appease Luo Huimei, “Yan, you should take good care of your health even if you’re trying to lose weight and stay in shape.” Then, he placed a piece of meat on Yan’s bowl of rice.
Yan wasn’t aware that she didn’t take any meat if her father hadn’t reminded her. Hence, she immediately devoured the meat that Mr. Zhou placed in her bowl for her to avoid Luo Huimei’s nagging. “Mom, I’m not unhappy with the food you prepared. They are delicious. I was just distracted by some matters. I’m sorry.”
“Is that so? Why don’t you tell us what’s on your mind? Are you having a relationship that you’re hiding from us?”
Yan almost choked on her food. “Mom! No!”
“No? In that case, why are you giggling the entire night? Do you think that I am inexperienced? You’re spouting lies.”
Yan was rendered speechless by Luo Huimei’s response. “I’m not in a relationship!” Nothing is even confirmed. I’d love to share the happiness of my relationship with my family, but the main thing here… is that I’m not even sure about it. “Mom, just hang in there. I’ll inform you both once I’m really in a relationship.” In the end, Yan gave in and offered a hint of details.
Luo Huimei’s eyes twinkled brightly when she heard that. “Oh, in that case, does it mean that there is hope this time? Who is it? Do I know him? How is he? Is he handsome? How is his family background? I’m telling you right now that you must not choose a handsome man with a bad personality nor would I accept a man who gambles and causes domestic violence…”
Yan was at a loss for words, feeling that she shouldn’t have said anything at all. Judging by Luo Huimei’s personality, there was a chance that she would annoy Yan from now on. “Mom, please stop asking these questions. I told you I’m not in a relationship right now. I will inform you after I’ve settled down because I’m not planning to date right now. However, I’m not rejecting the possibility if the opportunity presents itself. I didn’t mean that I found someone.”
“What did you say? Are you saying that you haven’t found a man?”
Yan nodded and she placed her bowl down to avoid any further questioning from Luo Huimei. “I’m full. You two should enjoy dinner.”
After Yan left, Luo Huimei smirked at her empty seat. “Damn it, that little girl. How dare she lie to me! Does she think that I’ve never been in love before? She was smiling like a fool but claims she doesn’t have a boyfriend.”
Mr. Zhou answered her, “She is your daughter. Don’t be so harsh on her…”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1116
“Tsk! I’ll say whatever I want about my daughter. Don’t you try to control me.”
Mr. Zhou was rendered speechless by her response. Forget it, it’s best I don’t try reasoning with a woman.
“Speaking about being reasonable, our daughter must be dating now. I should pay more attention from now on.”
Mr. Zhou wanted to ask Luo Huimei to give Yan more space, but he did not say anything after weighing his options. After all, both mother and daughter have a much more intimate relationship than I do with Yan. I suppose they are able to discuss certain things better.
Yan did not eat much for the whole day and it was most probably due to her excitement, but she never felt hungry at all. On the contrary, she was energized and tried the dress after a shower. She realized from the start that the dress suited her perfectly—the waistline and positions of the shoulders of the dress fitted her snugly. The fashion designer was very willful because not only did he design dresses for young women, each design only came in one size. Besides, there was only one piece for each pattern and he never reproduced the same one.
As such, Yan was quite surprised that it fitted her well. This means that my figure isn’t too bad after all. I’m lucky because the dress would feel tight if I were any fatter. Thank God I didn’t have much to eat today. I’d have a large belly if I ate more food earlier and would just look ugly then.
The banquet was the day after tomorrow, so Yan dropped by the company as usual the next day. Despite coming on a daily basis, she still politely greeted the receptionist everyday before heading upstairs. However, when Yan arrived at the reception today, she realized that there were about six to seven women crowding the counter. They all looked like employees of the Han Group. Yan figured that something was happening, so she didn’t want to disturb them. However, someone stopped her. “Hey! Delivery girl, hang on!”
Delivery girl? Yan stopped dead in her tracks and she turned around to the source of that voice in confusion. Is she calling me? She scanned her surroundings but didn’t see anyone else delivering takeout. Upon realizing that, she pointed at her nose. The tallest girl in the group answered while nodding haughtily, “That’s right. I’m calling you. Come over here.”
Yan was unsure why the woman wanted to talk to her, but the former approached the latter out of courtesy. “How do you do? Can I help you?”
The rest of the group started to give Yan once-overs when she approached them, looking as if they were stripping her naked with their eyes since they openly appraised her from head-to-toe.
Yan was rendered speechless by their reaction. What is happening? She blinked her eyes as she stared blankly at the group of women who appeared out of nowhere. I’m not sure if I’m imagining things, but I feel as if these women are staring at me with hostility. However… When did I offend them?
The group stared openly at Yan. Since the female receptionist had described Yan as a plain and forgettable woman, the bunch of women envisioned Yan as an ordinary-looking woman. However, they were green with envy when they saw Yan in person.
That was because Yan wasn’t as ugly as they had imagined. In fact, she didn’t resemble an ordinary woman at all. Her style of clothing was simple and it was obvious that she placed more emphasis on comfort than appearance. However, her style did not work against her. On the contrary, she looked comfortable while her eyes sparkled with energy and her body radiated an unmistakable vigor. She’s unlike us, the working class. We all have dark eye bags underneath our eyes due to working late into the night. We might be using overpriced skincare products, but it’s nothing compared to naturally-produced collagen from our bodies.
Currently, Yan was the walking example of that look—her skin was so supple that it appeared delicate and fine, which made the group of women jealous of her. The group couldn’t complain about her appearance, so they started mocking her profession. “I heard you operate a ramen restaurant.”
Yan nodded. “Yeah, is there a problem?”
“None at all. Can you deliver some takeout for us since you’re delivering food for President Han on a daily basis?”
“That’s right. We want some ramen too. Please deliver some for me.”
Yan felt slightly embarrassed about this because she recalled a previous incident where she reprimanded Han Qing by claiming that she would be unable to survive without delivering food to customers. However, now that she thought about it, her profit from food delivery wasn’t much. There are lots of customers in the restaurant and I wouldn’t make much from delivering food. Dad would have to work extra hard in the restaurant. In fact, we’d be in trouble if he is stuck alone if there are any issues in the restaurant. That’s why I’ve decided to only deliver food for pre-existing customers. In fact, I might stop doing so all together. These people have clearly never been to my shop. “I’m so sorry, everyone. We are understaffed in the restaurant, so we won’t be providing any food delivery services in the future. If you would like to have a try, please drop by our restaurant in person.”
“What did you say? Are you not providing food delivery services anymore? In that case, why are you delivering food on a daily basis for President Han?”
“That’s right! What do you mean that you’re not providing food delivery services? Aren’t you coming over on a daily basis anyway? Could it be possible that… you don’t want to deliver food to us since we’re merely female employees of the company whom you can’t benefit from?”
The group of women exchanged glances before cackling laughter.
“That’s right. You’re not the President and you’re not a man either. There’s nothing to benefit from you, so why would she deliver food to you?”
“Sigh… Well, food delivery girl, are you trying to be Cinderella in real life?”
Yan was rendered speechless after hearing that. She never gave it much thought when they beckoned at her in the beginning, but now that she heard their constant jeering remarks while looking down at her arrogantly, she finally realized why there were so many women gathering around. It turns out there is something after all. They are… targeting me. She immediately realized what went on and her expression turned cold and distant as a result of their constant mocking and teasing. “How is it any of your concern whether I’m trying to be a real life Cinderella? I think you are the one trying to rise up the social ladder and that is why you can’t help but switch to attack mode on others.”
The crowd was stunned into silence, most probably because they never expected such a simple and obedient-looking girl to suddenly appear cold and distant while refuting them.
The female receptionist, who watched from the sidelines, felt secretly gleeful about the situation. I’ve been wanting to mock Yan, but I lacked the courage. Now that others are mocking her on my behalf, I can’t help but feel relieved. They are just being nasty with words, so it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. President Han has not acknowledged their relationship anyway, so why would he raise a ruckus over such a small matter? “What are you saying? Who is the one trying to be Cinderella here? You are just a food delivery girl. You don’t even have a proper job. What gives you the right to speak when you’re throwing yourself at every man available here?”
Yan glared at her coldly. “I earn a living with my capabilities. The era of class stratification is in the past. You merely found a relaxing job. Are you under the impression that you reap what you sow like you’re in the Qing Dynasty? Do you think that you are better than everyone else? Is that why you are constantly judging others?”
“How dare you!” The woman must have lost her temper and she was about to lay a hand on Yan.
Yan took a step back, but she stopped after mulling it over. “Go ahead and try to make a move on me. Let’s see who ends up humiliated. Besides, let me remind you that it’s time for my food delivery for President Han. If President Han doesn’t see me when it’s time…”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1118
“I honestly don’t think it’s necessary, thanks,” Yan rejected the makeup artist in utter embarrassment. After that, she kept her head bowed without making conversation—it was obvious that she was shy about this.
“You are so shy. You’re already embarrassed over such a small matter. How did you manage to pursue President Han?”
Yan was rendered speechless when she heard that. Then, she looked up and into Su Jiu’s eyes. “In all honesty, I wasn’t shy at all previously when I pursued him. No, to be honest, I was shy, but…” I was probably bold in the beginning because I figured I could give it my all. Toward the end, I was rejected so many times that I lost hope. Feeling shy is a normal response, but I was previously bold because I followed whatever my heart demanded. It’s different now because I’m mostly dominated by worry and fear. I’ve placed my yearnings at the bottom of my priorities.
“But what?”
“Nothing.” Yan shook her head. She was excited just a second ago, but now, her head hung low. Seeing how dejected and disappointed Yan was, Su Jiu patted the former’s shoulders. “It’s alright. The past is the past and you are in the present now. You have the future to look forward to. There would be plenty of chances and timings waiting for you.”
Su Jiu’s words were very encouraging. As Yan repeated after her several times in silence, she finally chuckled in agreement. “Yup!”
The young lady in front of Su Jiu smiled, appearing to be full of youthful vigor. “That’s right. You should be this happy when you attend the banquet later.”
“Thank you, Secretary Su.”
Yan had excellent skin, so the makeup artist completed the task effortlessly. She lamented after she was done with Yan’s makeup, “Cute girl, you have such good skin. I’ve been working as a makeup artist for years, but I’ve seen only a handful of women with great skin. It’s so much easier for me to apply the makeup because I don’t need to bother with thick foundation layers.”
Yan smiled shyly at the makeup artist’s compliments. The makeup artist found Yan adorable the longer she stared at the latter. She almost wanted to caress Yan’s hair, but she had styled it not too long ago and stopped herself from messing up Yan’s styled hair, knowing that it would have to be redone later.
The sky turned dark by the time the two of them left. Nevertheless, the city was not engulfed by darkness—but lights flooded the city, brightening the night.
“Not bad! You are very pretty. If everything goes well, you should be the most dazzling woman tonight.”
Yan’s breath caught in her throat when she heard that because she was already practicing slow and deep inhalations due to her anxiety. “W-What? The most dazzling woman, you say?”
“That’s right.” Su Jiu winked at Yan through the rearview mirror. “Don’t you think you’re beautifully dressed right now?”
“Well, it is pretty, but… I know how I look like,” Yan hesitated before answering. I’m well aware of my appearance and I’m not a classic beauty. Why would I be the most dazzling woman? Besides, I don’t want to be the most dazzling woman tonight. I’d be extremely uncomfortable if everyone is focused on me.
However, Yan exhaled a sigh of relief—once she reassured herself that no such thing would happen based on her current appearance. Nevertheless, right after she felt relieved, Su Jiu seemed determined to provoke the former by commenting, “I suppose you have a skewed opinion about yourself. You might not have the prettiest facial features, but trust me, your youthful vigor shines bright like a diamond. Furthermore, you’ve underestimated President Han’s charm. He’s been single for so many years and he’s rejected countless celebrities and socialites throughout the years due to multiple reasons. He’s never had any female companion throughout the years. If he has one, those women whom he rejected in the past would most probably clamber forward to rip his current female companion apart.”
Rip her apart… Yan felt a chill run down her spine and she straightened her back. After that, she stared at Su Jiu steadily while the imaginary image flashed through her mind. Does that mean that the reason I’d be the most dazzling woman tonight has nothing to do with my looks nor will it be associated with my dress? Instead… it’s due to the fact that I’m standing beside Han Qing? If that’s the reason, it makes perfect sense. Besides, I’m sure there would be a 99.9% chance I’ll end up as the center of attention because Han Qing is always the center of attention. If I were to stand beside him… Yan was suddenly regretful. Why did I agree to be his date to attend the banquet? I wasn’t sure on what to do then and I ran away instinctively. However, I’ve never thought of rejecting him.
“Are you scared?” Su Jiu glanced at her while asking in amusement.
Yan never answered her.
“Why are you scared? Shouldn’t you have the courage to stand by his side if you are in love with him?”
Yan was rendered speechless and she looked up abruptly upon hearing that.
“How would you be his woman if you don’t stand with him?”
“But…” Yan bit her lower lip in hesitation. “I think I’m that great, but I… don’t think I’m good enough for him.”
“So what is good enough for him? Family background? Appearance? Or personality? From where I stand, those things aren’t issues at all. The most important thing is that the two of you have to be in love with each other and you must have the courage to solve issues together. There might be plenty of cruel things in the real world which forces us to face reality. However, in all honesty, I’ve been married for so many years and I have to say that I still believed in love when I met my husband.”
“That’s nice,” Yan commented enviously.
“You will have that one day as well, you just have to believe in yourself.”
I have to admit that Su Jiu is a very considerate person.
After arriving at the venue of the banquet, Su Jiu led Yan out from the car. Yan was unable to walk properly since she wore high heels, which reminded her of the time when she wore a pair of high heels of the wrong size while she went with Han Qing to meet some clients. Her choice of footwear had chaffed her skin badly and she was in pain for several days afterward. However, her heartache was worse.
“Well… Secretary Su…” Yan walked beside Su Jiu while appearing unsure. “Is this the venue of the banquet?”
“That’s right.”
But why don’t I see Han Qing? Has he entered the venue by himself? Didn’t he wait for me? She felt slightly disappointed when she thought of that.
“Are you very disappointed?” Su Jiu asked just beside her.
Yan reverted to her previous expression immediately while shaking her head. “No, I’m not.” She acted as if nothing happened. I might feel slightly disappointed, but I’m still happy in general. After all, Han Qing invited me to attend this banquet as his date. It’s the first step to my happiness. From now on, I just have to work harder.
“Why don’t you have a look at the entrance?”
The entrance? Yan had a look at her surroundings and she noticed a crowded spot. There was a red carpet with countless people walking along that route because an invite was needed upon entering the venue. At that moment, a tall and handsome figure appeared suddenly at the entrance. The man towered over the crowd. Han Qing! She felt her heart thumping hard against her chest. Her pink lips parted and she was so excited that she almost screamed his name, but realized that there were many people entering the venue, so she stopped herself just in time.
“Are you still disappointed now? President Han came out just to wait for you.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1119
Yan was at a loss for words. After listening to Su Jiu’s honest remarks, she felt butterflies in her stomach. Coincidentally, Han Qing turned to focus on Yan across the crowd at that moment. Their gazes met in silence.
“Go ahead.” Su Jiu pushed Yan’s back lightly as a signal for her to continue forward.
Yan was rooted to the spot, as though she lacked the courage to move forward. Then, she glanced at Su Jiu in hesitation. Su Jiu responded with a smile. “What is it? President Han is waiting for you in front. He might enter the venue himself if you take any longer and you’d have wasted a trip tonight. Would you throw away this chance too?”
After Su Jiu’s gentle reminder, Yan realized that since she promised Han Qing to attend the banquet as his date, she should be brave enough to take the first step forward. I don’t want to leave. I have nowhere to go, but forward. “Thank you.”
Yan inhaled deeply while cheering for herself in her mind. Then, she walked toward Han Qing. Han Qing was tall and handsome while radiating a calm and steady aura. Thus, it felt like he had a halo around him as he stood there. The crowd kept turning toward him for a double take.
Those who attended the banquet today were mostly members of the upper class society. There were lots of parents who brought their daughters along for more exposure while getting to know some important figures—it was almost like a blind date. Parents with daughters naturally focused on Han Qing.
Many women already stared at Han Qing before they even entered the venue. Some parents commented with a sigh, “Stop looking. That man is a log and nothing will bloom out of it.”
Other parents, who heard that, added, “That’s right. I heard that he’s rejected countless women. He has never brought any women aside from his secretary to attend these banquets. However, I heard that the secretary has been married for years and she even has children.”
“Is it possible that he doesn’t fancy women? Maybe he likes men.”
“I don’t think that’s plausible because there’s no man around him. What’s scary is that he’s extremely disciplined in his work, rest and life schedule. I heard that President Huang invited him to a private room previously and had many beautiful women attend to them. They tried everything to seduce President Han, but he didn’t even pay any attention to any one of the women… ”
Someone hesitated before commenting, “I suppose there’s no hope after all.”
Then, there were women who refused to give up. One of them even tugged on her father’s sleeve. “Dad, somehow I feel like he hasn’t met the love of his life, which is why he’s been acting that way. If he is a heterosexual, that must be the reason. If he is not responsive, it shows that he has never encountered anyone in the past who was able to touch his heart. Why don’t we try our luck?”
The father was at a loss for words after listening to his daughter’s claims. She had tugged at his sleeve, but he felt that she sounded silly. Nevertheless, I must have spoilt her and that is why she’s saying such a foolish thing. He was about to reprimand his daughter, but the person in front of them turned to her suddenly. “What she said makes sense. What kind of men do not like women? The only plausible reason is that the woman is not pretty enough! Why don’t you go with her to try your luck? You will both accompany each other!”
The two young women exchanged glances as a trace of disdain flashed through their eyes. However, they acted as though they were best friends in the next second.
“Well, let’s go together.”
“Sure!”
Han Qing had his eyes glued on Yan all along. At first, he seemed indifferent, but he frowned gradually because a man had blocked Yan’s way suddenly when she was walking over. After that, the man smiled at Yan and it looked as if he spoke to her.
Han Qimg was extremely uncomfortable when he saw the two of them standing together. He pressed his lips together tightly, causing the temperature surrounding him to drop rapidly. He was about to march forward when two women blocked his way abruptly.
“President Han.”
“Good evening, President Han. I am Su Yaoyao from the Su Group. I saw you standing all alone from afar. I wonder if you’re waiting for someone.”
After seeing Su Yaoyao making the first move, the other woman didn’t want to be left behind and took several steps forward to stand beside Han Qing. She asked with a smile, “President Han, are you waiting for someone? Can I do anything for you?”
Looking at the two women, who currently blocked his way, Han Qing scowled while staring at them. “What is it?”
The two of them were stunned to silence because they never expected him to be so ruthless, hence, they were at a loss for words.
“Make way if there’s nothing.” Han Qing was usually polite and courteous, but the situation was slightly different now. He did not have the patience to be courteous with these two boring women.
Su Yaoyao’s expression changed slightly, but due to Han Qing’s strong and forceful presence, she had no choice but to take a couple of steps backward timidly. After that, she did not comment further.
The other woman called Yu Shan couldn’t help but mock at how useless Su Yaoyao was to back out so easily. She doesn’t have patience despite trying to seduce a man. She tried to flirt and retreated after she was told to move away. I can’t believe she has the audacity to flirt with her limited capabilities. She was determined to see through it, so she marched forward to put an arm around Han Qing’s shoulder. “Hey, President Han! I notice that you’re here alone. I’m here by myself today too. Can I invite you to be my date for tonight?”
Su Yaoyao’s expression changed drastically when she saw the sudden turn of events. She was slightly horrified while thinking to herself, Oh, damn it! Yu Shan got there first just because I was distracted. Nevertheless, Su Yaoyao swiftly calmed down because Han Qing’s expression had darkened instantly the moment Yu Shan wrapped an arm around him. In fact, his veins throbbed visibly against his temples and he radiated an intimidating aura.
“Let go of me.” Han Qing tried to maintain his last shred of chivalry.
Seeing that he didn’t push her away despite his anger, Yu Shan assumed that he didn’t dislike her. Hence, she tried to get closer to him, but the next thing she knew, he pushed her away.
“Ah!” a woman screamed suddenly. Su Yaoyao helplessly stared at Yu Shan, who had just smiled gleefully to her a second ago, being flung away. As a result, Yu Shan slumped on the ground in an embarrassing state. No one in attendance expected such a sudden turn of events. Some were even bewildered since they had no idea what just happened, while some were gleeful about it since they observed everything from the very beginning. Su Yaoyao was obviously one of those gloating over the incident. She was the one throwing herself at him. Luckily I retreated in time.
However, Han Qing never bothered to check on Yu Shan because he had already warned her to let go of him. Hence, she was responsible for whatever happened after.
On the other side, Yan never expected to be stopped by someone. The man wanted to invite her as his date for tonight since he saw her arriving alone. Initially, she stated politely that someone was already waiting for her. However, when the man asked who it was, Yan stammered, and so he refused to believe her.
“There is no one waiting for you in reality, is there? To be honest, you don’t have to be afraid of me. I’m not a bad guy. I just noticed that you’re too beautiful, which is why you caught my attention. I’ve never had someone attend a banquet with me. In fact, you are the first one.” After he said that, the man seemed pleased with his flawless compliment, figuring that Yan would be moved.
However, a deep and gravelly voice interrupted suddenly, “Is that so?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1120
The man’s sudden voice shocked the two of them. The man who flirted with Yan turned toward the voice. After looking closer, the man was greeted with a dark expression and a steely sharp gaze—both of which sent a shiver running down his spine.
“P-President Han?”
Everyone attending the banquet obviously knew who President Han was. However, he usually did things alone. Why is he chatting with me now? Theoretically, he shouldn’t pay any attention to me. In that case, the reason President Han is here is because… The man turned to look at the woman in the white dress with whom he flirted just now.
True enough, Yan stared at Han Qing without blinking. There was a slightly shocked expression etched across her fair face. Yan’s lips were slightly parted as if she was about to explain herself, but no words came out of her.
Yan had already panicked when the man blocked her earlier because she wasn’t sure whether Han Qing might enter the banquet if she arrived late. At that point, she would be left all alone and might not even be allowed to enter the banquet. I didn’t expect Han Qing to come over.
Han Qing’s gaze looked cold and aloof, but there was a stormy darkness in them. Yan clenched her dress while she hesitated. In the end, she walked unsteadily toward Han Qing. She inhaled deeply as she made her way toward Han Qing. Although her high heels were of the right size today, they were extremely high for her. I would have chosen a pair with shorter heels if I’d known how difficult it is. However, out of all the shoes available, this pair was the only one that complimented the dress. In fact, it took me the entire day to choose them.
Yan was about to arrive at Han Qing’s side, but she missed a step and lost her footing. She already had difficulty balancing on her high heels, but was now in deep trouble because she tripped forward.
Su Yaoyao, who was nearby, relished after she personally witnessed how Han Qing had flung Yu Shan away after the latter threw herself at him. In fact, Yu Shan was still slumped on the ground in embarrassment. Hence, Su Yaoyao thought to herself, I can’t believe there’s another woman repeating the same mistake by throwing herself at him again. She had her arms folded in front of her chest and saw that Yan tripped toward the cold and aloof man. Yan’s facial features were contorted in panic, making her appear somewhat hideous at a closer look. Her acting is not bad at all. Actually, her acting is very realistic. However, isn’t she rather bad at controlling her emotions? Why is she presenting such a horrifying expression when she’s throwing herself at him? Is she trying to scare him away with her ugliness? Tsk, such a fool!
However, Su Yaoyao’s theory was proven otherwise when Han Qing, who seemed unfazed by everyone else, suddenly reached out to hold onto Yan steadily.
Everyone in attendance, including Su Yaoyao and an embarrassed Yu Shan, had expected a good show, but they were all rendered speechless when they witnessed Han Qing’s actions. What is happening?
Yan thought that she would have fallen flat on her face and never expected a pair of hands to support her out of nowhere. Then, she was overwhelmed by a familiar scent which shrouded over her. She raised her head in astonishment and met Han Qing’s steady, dark eyes before her heart skipped a beat. The first thought that came to her mind was, He can’t possibly think that I tripped on purpose so that he’d help me up, is it? Upon considering that possibility, she immediately explained herself, “I-I’m sorry… The high heels are too high for me, but I didn’t trip on purpose.”
Han Qing frowned slightly when he heard that before looking down at her shoes. The white high heels covered her dainty and fair feet. Ten slightly rounded and smooth toes peeked out at the tip of the high heels, looking especially adorable. The high heels paired well with her attire, but after Han Qing’s quick estimation, he figured that the heels were made for certain occasions hence they were higher than usual. Nevertheless, women who were used to wearing high heels would have no problem wearing them. After all, Han Qing was used to seeing Su Jiu running in high heels during work.
However, Yan always wore flat shoes whenever he saw her. This young lady is most probably not used to these kinds of shoes. I still recall the time when she accompanied me to attend one of the cocktail parties and she had chaffed skin due to wearing a pair of shoes with the incorrect size. When he thought of that, Han Qing stared at her heels while asking in a husky voice, “Are the heels of the right size?”
“Huh?” Yan was astounded, but she responded swiftly with a nod. “I-It’s the right size. It’s just higher than usual. That’s why I’m not used to it.”
Han Qing glanced swiftly at Yan’s timid expression. “Can you walk? Just change into another pair of shoes if it’s not suitable.”
“Change into another pair of shoes? I don’t think that’s necessary. I wasn’t used to it earlier. It’s fine. Let me try to walk around.” After saying that, Yan realized suddenly that she had leaned against Han Qing’s chest all along. She blushed furiously while straightening her posture. Soon, she realized that everyone surrounding them was staring at her, making her horribly embarrassed and she hid behind Han Qing reflexively. She might have been afraid of Han Qing, but he was the only one she knew here. Hence, he was the only one who provided her with a sense of security.
Han Qing noticed that Yan hid behind him reflexively after she scanned the strange faces around her. For some reason, he felt his foul mood dissipating before it was replaced with a faint satisfaction. He pursed his lips before stating, “If it’s difficult for you to walk, you can hold onto me.” Soon after that, Han Qing felt a timid pull followed by a tug on his sleeve. He looked down and saw a pair of fair and slender hands holding carefully onto his sleeve. In fact, she grasped onto a small area of his sleeve for fear of incurring his wrath.
“Follow my lead.”
“Okay.” The lady walked by Han Qing’s side and clung onto his sleeve before she attempted to take a step forward.
When they walked past Su Yaoyao and Yu Shan, the two women’s expressions were as dark as charcoal. Yu Shan’s father had already helped her up on her feet and she now stood with Su Yaoyao.
Initially, Su Yaoyao thought that Han Qing would have shoved Yan away. Who would have expected Han Qing to catch her on time? He even allowed her to walk by his side while she clung onto his sleeve to enter the venue. The main thing is that this woman doesn’t look familiar at all. As members of the upper class society, we would have met at least once, no matter how distant our relationships are because we are bound to bump into each other on such occasions. That is why over time, we’d end up greeting each other as a courtesy even if we don’t know each other
“Who is that woman? Why is she walking by President Han’s side?”
True enough, those guests who had witnessed the earlier incident started to ask questions out of curiosity.
“That’s right. I thought President Han never took a date to attend the banquet. What is happening today?”
The crowd seemed bewildered. “What is happening? Is this a public statement since President Han is taking a woman to attend this event??”
“I doubt it. Is the log finally blossoming?”
Su Yaoyao and Yu Shan exchanged glances with each other as they were both in a foul mood.
“Did you guys see what happened to Su Yaoyao and Yu Shan? Both of them went to flirt with President Han, but he didn’t even look at them.”
