Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1131
His gaze on her made her back feel hot. At last, Yan could no longer withstand it, so she hid in the kitchen and worked there, refusing to emerge. Luo Huimei, who noticed her daughter’s unusual behaviour, found an excuse to serve dishes outside, but she was stopped by the latter. “Mom, don’t go out. You can only stay with me here.”
“What nonsense are you saying? I’m serving the dishes outside, so move.”
“No. You are just using it as an excuse to go and find that person.” Yan knew Luo Huimei well. However, since she had decided not to have anything to do with him, it would’ve been better for her mother not to know him, let alone meet him. This was to prevent the situation from becoming more awkward in the future.
“Who says so? Who am I going to find outside? Don’t you see how busy the restaurant is? I’m just going out to help.”
Yan looked at her with unfairness. “It’s also extremely busy here in the kitchen. It’ll be the same if you help here.”
No matter what Luo Huimei said, Yan refused to let her out. When it was finally dusk, Yan still remained at her seat even after having dinner.
“Has that person left?” Yan called an employee to her and carefully asked.
That employee shook her head. “He’s still there. Madam, are you really not going out to take a look? I noticed that he has been standing there for the whole day and he hasn’t eaten anything until now. What if—”
“Don’t even think about it!” Yan immediately interrupted her. “I know what you have in mind, but no, you cannot! Do you hear me?” What’s wrong with being hungry for a day? When I attended the banquet with him, I was hungry and didn’t eat anything for the whole day as well, and what did I get in return? I won’t be so silly. If he wants to wait and refuses to eat, I’ll just let him be. I know that he is here for that 60,000!
Until 9 o’clock at night, she could no longer stand being in the kitchen and as she stayed in her seat, she could barely keep her eyes open. “Is he still there?”
“Yes, Madam.”
Yan did not know what to say. Why hasn’t he left? I don’t understand. Is this just because of that 60,000? Is there a need for him to do this?
“Yan, what exactly happened? That person is still waiting for you outside. I think maybe you should go outside and talk it out with him.” Although Luo Huimei was curious, she cared about her daughter’s feelings even more.
Luo Huimei had seen her daughter crying terribly that night. Therefore, as a mother, it would be impossible for her not to feel distressed on behalf of her daughter. Now that Yan avoided this man like he was a plague, Luo Huimei guessed that this might have been the man who made her daughter weep that night. “Anyway, you still need to solve the matter. It doesn’t help to keep avoiding him like this.”
“Mom, I’m not avoiding…” I’m not avoiding him. I just don’t want to continue to degrade myself.
“If you are not avoiding him, then you should talk it out with him. He has waited for you for the whole day, so it shows that he is a rather patient kid.” Luo Huimei continually persuaded Yan, causing the latter’s defense to be gradually lowered. The latter had no choice but to nod. “I understand, Mom. I’ll go outside to talk it out with him later.”
“If you have anything that you want to say, just say it. Don’t keep it to yourself,” Luo Huimei advised her as she tugged the latter’s sleeves. “Do you hear what I said? Talk it out with him and both of you will feel much better.”
“I understand.”
Han Qing came alone. He never thought that after waiting for Yan for the entire day, the young lady still refused to see him. As a man who excellently controlled his feelings, he had continuously waited, and never once showed the slightest negative emotions.
When Yan emerged from the kitchen, she thought to herself, Later, I’ll be preemptive to take control of the situation and make it clear to him so that I won’t continue to degrade myself. I’ll say everything in one go before asking him to leave, and to never come back to find me!
When the young lady came over, Han Qing was on a call. “Yeah, about there. Later…” Upon seeing the young lady’s figure appearing before him, he immediately hung up the call.
“You’re here?” When the young lady walked up to him, he asked casually.
Yan was a little surprised. After waiting for the whole day, I thought that he would be upset, but his tone was unexpectedly indifferent. Doesn’t he have feelings? Anyway, what does it have to do with me? “The reason you are here is for that 60,000, am I right?” she asked him in a straightforward manner.
Slightly stunned, Han Qing pressed his thin lips. It was true that he guessed that the 60,000 was from Yan, but that was not the reason he came tonight.
“I heard that you gave up on a deal and have lost a lot of money to go to the police station and that formal dress which you have bought for me. I know that I owe you a lot of money, but… I’ll slowly save up to return it to you.”
Return my money? Upon hearing the words, Han Qing frowned in displeasure. “Lin Xuzheng told you this?”
Yan never intended on dragging Lin Xuzheng into this, so she immediately denied. “No.”
Since she denied it, he did not have the intention to press on. Instead, he slightly narrowed his eyes before casually saying, “This matter has nothing to do with you, so you don’t have to bear any responsibility for it.”
Have nothing to do with me? The corner of her lips curled up into a sneer. “Alright, since you said that it has nothing to do with me, then so be it.” But me wanting to return the money to you has nothing to do with you as well.
Looking at her expression, Han Qing was in doubt. Therefore, he slightly narrowed his eyes and asked her about the things that happened in these two days. “Were you busy these two days?”
“Why? Do you have any business with me?” She still looked at him mockingly, but his eyes were dark and deep, with a slightly piercing gaze hidden in it.
“You didn’t come to the office.”
Upon hearing that, Yan wore the look of sudden realization. “Oh, I see. You’re here because I didn’t make deliveries to you, President Han. You’re right. I was indeed very busy these two days. I had things to attend to, so it was inconvenient for me to go there. You have seen it yourself just now. The restaurant is so busy that I can’t afford to leave.” After saying that, there was a moment of silence between them.
A few seconds of silence later, Han Qing calmly asked, “Are you coming tomorrow?”
Yan was speechless. She blinked as she looked at his handsome face before her eyes. His face was half-hidden in the darkness of the night, making him seem a little unreal. “I’m not going,” she muttered.
“Okay.” He nodded to show that he understood before asking, “How about the day after tomorrow?”
Yan was left speechless again. She bit on her lower lip and thought to herself, Is he really not getting this or is he playing dumb? I have a feeling that Han Qing is here to mock me. That’s why he is asking me this kind of question. Does he think that if he beckons to me, I will run happily to him like how I usually do? Don’t even think about it! Upon having such thoughts, she gritted her teeth. “No, I’m not going.”
“Then, when are you coming?”
Upon hearing that, Yan finally understood. It wasn’t because he didn’t understand, but he just played dumb. The corner of her involuntarily lips quirked up into a sneer. “I’m not going. I won’t go there ever again,” she said adamantly and her eyes, which was usually filled with joy and zeal, were now replaced by resolution. “From now on, I won’t go to your company to find you and you shouldn’t come looking for me either.”
At that moment, Han Qing, who had been calm and indifferent, finally frowned.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1132
The night breeze blew the loose hair in front of Yan’s forehead, but under her hair, her eyes were determined and her fair, clear little face was impassive. “I’ve said what I wanted to say. President Han, if there’s nothing else, please leave.”
The tall figure before her eyes stood in place without responding to her and just peered at her with his pair of dark eyes—he had no intention to leave. After waiting for a while and realizing that he still refused to leave, she directly turned around and returned to the restaurant without even casting a glance at him.
When Yan entered, Luo Huimei, who stood not far from them, looked satisfactorily at her daughter standing at the door while talking with the young man. Though the distance between them wasn’t particularly near, she saw the man’s face with clarity. He seemed to be an outstanding person and until now, his emotions were calm and not agitated at all. No wonder her daughter felt sad and heartbroken over him.
Upon seeing her daughter returning inside, Luo Huimei attempted to stop her but failed, leaving her with no choice but to follow her into the kitchen. “How did it go? Did you follow my advice to talk it out with him?”
“Yes, I told him everything,” Yan replied to her listlessly. She was initially energetic, but was like a puppet that lost its strings and lying at one side lifelessly, looking as if she was weary with the world after she met Han Qing.
“You’ve talked it out, so what happened instead? Why do you look lifeless? Did both of you not reach a consensus?”
“Mom, don’t be so nosy.” Yan turned her head to the other side and leaned on the table.
Luo Huimei immediately walked over to the side where Yan faced. “I’m just concerned about your love life. How is this considered nosy? I’m not asking about other people’s matters. From afar, I saw that he looked like an outstanding young man who even waited for you the whole day. If there’s anything that happened, don’t focus only on your own feelings.”
“I didn’t focus only on my own feelings. He waited for me due to some other matters. I have already made it clear to him and we won’t be in contact with each other again after this.” After Yan said this, she hid her face in her hands—as if all of her strength had been drained out of her.
Luo Huimei was at a loss for words. She did not know what to say next, seeing that her daughter had already made herself clear.
That figure was still in front of the ramen restaurant until the shop closed at night. Several employees got off work and gathered together as they left, quietly discussing among themselves.
“He is so handsome. I think he looks more handsome than the other man who previously came here to look for madam. He has waited for our madam for the whole day, hasn’t he? Why does madam ignore him?”
“I’m not sure. Perhaps our madam does not like him? Therefore, she’s ignoring him?
“Madam has high expectations for men. She doesn’t like him even though he’s such a fine man.”
“Our madam is like some secret temptress. As an owner of a ramen restaurant, she has so many men looking for her and they drive luxury cars. Does she have a special talent in seducing man?”
“Don’t talk nonsense. Madam Luo has told us about Mr. Lin, who came over previously. He’s the person who rented this shop to madam. He had a wife and he loves her deeply.”
“Pfft, how many men out there deeply love their partners? They all just talk for fun. Who knows whether they will be together in the future?”
“We should respect the deceased. Stop talking nonsense. Let’s go.”
With that, they left at once.
Meanwhile, just when Luo Huimei was about to leave after packing up, she unexpectedly saw Han Qing still standing there. Unable to hold herself back, she walked up to him and asked, “Sir, why don’t you head back first? You’ve been waiting for the whole day and you haven’t eaten anything yet.”
Upon seeing Luo Huimei’s age, Han Qing’s eyes gleamed. “Hello, Madam.”
“Hello, I’m Yan’s mother,” Luo Huimei introduced herself, adding, “Stop waiting for her. You should head home earlier instead of hurting your stomach.”
The corner of his lips twitched, revealing a small smile. “Madam, thank you for your concern, but I’ll wait for a little longer.”
She found herself unable to persuade him and he was really polite yet distant. On top of that, he never asked Luo Huimei, who was Yan’s mother, to pass the message on his behalf, which astounded her.
Luo Huimei eventually returned to the kitchen and tugged Yan’s collar. “Get up. How long are you going to lie down here? Are you even planning to go home?”
Yan who lay down on the table, wore an expression of grievance at being pulled up. “I’ve been exhausted these two days. Can’t I rest for a while?”
“Even if you want to rest, you shouldn’t rest here. Go home, take a bath, eat something, and you can sleep on your big bed.”
Yan kept quiet, having no choice but to rise to her full height and pack before leaving together with Luo Huimei. When they arrived at the door, Yan’s steps came to a halt before an unreadable expression appeared on her face. He… hasn’t left? She thought that after she had said those words, he would surely leave, based on his attitude. What she never expected was him to still be here.
Luo Huimei squinted her eyes at her daughter. “Are you going to head over there and talk to him for a while?”
“Mom, you did this on purpose, didn’t you? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Yan frowned.
“If I had told you earlier, you wouldn’t have gone home today, would you?”
Yan was at a loss for words, unable to refuse this convincing reason. With a poker face, she approached Han Qing as if she never saw him standing there. Since she had already made up her mind, she needed to stand her ground. If her heart softened because he came here to wait for her for the entire day, then the pain she suffered earlier would’ve been in vain. She refused to continue degrading herself.
The main entrance of the ramen restaurant was wide. If she continued to walk the path that she took, she would pass by Han Qing. Therefore, she intended to exit by taking another route, but was stopped by Luo Huimei. “Since you don’t intend to talk to him, why are you afraid to walk past him?”
In the end, Yan was pulled by Luo Huimei so that the former walked past Han Qing. Then, as Yan passed by him, she heard her clear but cold voice. “I have something to tell you.”
He has something to tell me? What will it be? She curled her lips into a sneer inwardly, but did not reply to him as she increased her pace.
Han Qing slightly furrowed his brows and could not suppress the urge to step forward to block Yan before apologetically looking at Luo Huimei. “I’m sorry, Madam. Please give me a few minutes.”
Luo Huimei uttered, “Both of you are young people, so solve your own problem among yourselves. I’ll be waiting on the other side. Yan, talk it out properly.”
Yan muttered, “Mom…”
It was late and many stores on that street were closed. Their shadows were long and stretched under the street lights. After the entire day, Han Qing looked a little scruffy and not as exquisite as usual.
Seeing him in such a state, Yan felt slightly pleased inwardly. You should experience how I usually feel. That day, I had starved like this for the whole day. It would’ve been fine if I got what I wished for, but unfortunately, I didn’t, and on top of that, I had been terribly hurt. Upon having such thoughts, she coldly stated, “You have something to tell me? Too bad, I don’t have anything to talk about with you.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1133
Yan was much more heartless today when compared with last time at the party. When she faced him, she was no longer restless and nervous. Mockery filled his eyes yet she stared straight at it without any fear. It was good for her to be this way, but the words that came out of her mouth wasn’t what Han Qing wanted to hear.
He kept his eyebrows furrowed while the aura around him was in a calm state before he took a step forward. “Please listen to what I have to say. About that night, I can explain.”
As soon as he mentioned that night, her face changed drastically. Suddenly, she remembered the scene where she stupidly closed her eyes to wait for his kiss, but he pushed away ruthlessly when she opened her eyes. At that time, he must have seen my look. He must have felt that I was stupid! Even as she thought about it now, she felt that she was stupid and disgusting.
At this point, she started to feel disgusted about herself inside. If I end up entangling myself with him again today, I won’t be able to live with myself. As the thought came to her mind, Yan said with an indifferent face, “President Han, you don’t need to explain yourself. I can see the truth clearly.”
Han Qing gazed at her with his clear eyes. “I drank too much that night, so—”
“Enough!” She instantly reached out to cover both of her ears and took a few steps back while becoming emotionally unstable. Her eyes were wide open as tears shone in them. “I just said that you don’t need to explain it. I can see it clearly. What else do you want?”
Her reaction caught him off guard as he stood there with his eyebrows frowning even more. Ever since that night, he had always wanted to find the opportunity to explain to her, but she never came to him. Now, he went to her and even waited for a day, but she didn’t want to hear his explanation.
Yan continued to cover her ears while shouting, “I didn’t know better back then, so I’ve constantly pestered you. But, I promise you from now on that I will never let it happen again. If you really think that I’ve crossed the line, please let me go for you and your sister’s sake!” As soon as she finished shouting, she ran off without waiting for his reaction. He never tried to stop her because of her unstable emotions.
Meanwhile, Luo Huimei stood aside and waited. Usually, she would never poke her ears into what young people spoke with each other, but she was curious and worried, so she quietly took a few steps toward them to eavesdrop. However, after she took a few steps, her daughter suddenly became agitated and shouted, which almost caused the former’s heart to burst.
It wasn’t long before she witnessed her daughter’s emotional breakdown. Yan covered her ears while screaming loudly at the man, drawing the attention of passersby. As soon as Yan finished her words, she immediately ran away.
At the moment, even if Luo Huimei felt that he was sincere by waiting for her daughter the entire day, he still had angered Yan. Therefore, Luo Huimei decided to ignore him and chased after Yan without even looking at him.
Yan was so agitated that she ran far away before she was out of breath and losing her energy, so she stopped. She bent over beside the road while taking deep breaths, as if she lacked oxygen. Afterward, Luo Huimei caught up to her and panted beside her. “Oh my God. You are really tiring me to death, Yan. Are you fine?”
Listening to Luo Huimei, Yan realized that she lost control of herself for a man in front of her own mother. She was startled before turning her head sideways to look at her mother blankly.
“Don’t be sad.” Luo Huimei revealed a slight smile. Then, she reached out to help Yan up before gently wiping off the tears from the corners of the latter’s eyes. “It’s nothing and I don’t blame you for how you acted just now. We can’t control our emotions most of the time. Let’s go home now, alright?”
Initially, Yan had tears in her eyes because she was emotional, but she felt aggrieved after hearing Luo Huimei’s words. At the start, she only pouted her lips to stop herself from crying. Afterward, she bit her lower lip— the gentle force grew gradually to a point where blood spilled from her lip. However, it still couldn’t heal the grief inside of her, so her tears eventually poured out in the end.
“Come, let’s go home first.” Luo Huimei wrapped her arms around her daughter’s shoulder and they walked forward like sisters.
During the night, after Yan was done with her chores, she revealed a pale smile at Luo Huimei, who had stayed by the former’s side all these while. “Mom, you don’t need to wait for me. You can head home and have a rest.”
“Are you sure? Will you be fine alone?”
“I’m not a kid anymore. Even if you don’t help me with these things, I still can manage it myself. Don’t worry. It’s late now, so you should quickly head back and prepare to sleep. Don’t waste any more time.” Although Yan’s heart felt like it had been stabbed with a knife, she still wouldn’t want to see her mother being exhausted because of her, especially when it was about something as trivial as her relationship. It would become a joke if everyone knew about it.
“Fine, you need to have a good rest too. If anything happens, just shout for me next door, alright?”
“Okay.”
Luo Huimei finally left, so Yan lay on the bed in a daze while observing the white ceiling above. A while later, she rolled her body and switched off the desk lamp on the bedside table. The room sank into darkness, with her watery eyes being the only bright light under the dim moonlight.
The sun came up as usual on the next day. When Yan went out and walked past the square, she saw the aunties dancing at the square being as enthusiastic as ever. As she rushed to the station, she realized that the big screen on the tall building now featured a celebrity advertisement. The sky remained the same. No matter what happens, the Earth is still turning. It doesn’t matter how sad I am because I still need to welcome a new day so that I can earn enough money to pay off my debt.
When she approached the ramen shop, she stopped at a place, remembering what happened last night. It was here that he waited for me the whole day.
In many people’s eyes, he might have been sincere, but his actions had hurt Yan’s heart and she no longer wanted to demean herself. Thinking about it, she took a deep breath before opening her business for the day.
…
At Han Group, after President Han rescheduled all of his appointments yesterday and went out the whole day without returning, Su Jiu could only try to complete all of her work before arranging an even more packed schedule for him today. However, she felt that something was wrong with him early in the morning. He was in such a bad mood that it was frightening. When someone tried to talk to him, he would stand there with a dark face while being silent, which made others feel depressed.
She rubbed her nose as she tried to stay far away from him. Then, she gazed at his back. Having been his secretary for so many years, how could she not know the reason why Han Qing went out yesterday? However, by the looks of his current self, it seemed as though yesterday didn’t turn out in the way he wished for.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1134
Thinking about it, Su Jiu let out a sigh inwardly. If yesterday didn’t turn out as he had wished, then… Her suspicions were confirmed when Yan still hadn’t showed up at the company by noon. The person whom he is waiting for hasn’t come. Looks like he didn’t handle yesterday’s incident well and instead, it became worse?
Su Jiu couldn’t help but think of the possible reasons. That day, after she questioned the receptionist, she felt that the receptionist wasn’t lying when the latter told her about the conversation between them. Su Jiu also felt that judging from Yan’s lively personality, the latter wouldn’t be angered by the words of those women. Even if she was really angered by them, it had nothing to do with Han Qing because it was the women’s fault.
Although Su Jiu wasn’t that close with Yan, they had still known each other for so long, so she knew that the latter wouldn’t be simply angered. If I exclude that possibility, then the only reason stems from that night at the party.
Su Jiu had sent Yan to the party that night, but she never exactly left afterward as she found a place to hide and only left after Han Qing came to pick Yan up. As Su Jiu observed the scene, she even felt that he was jealous and thought, Maybe these two will be together in a few days’ time. That would be nice, though. Han Qing has been single for so long that it’s time for him to get a girl.
However, no one expected that it would end up like this after just one night. So, the question is, what actually happened that night? She couldn’t figure it out even after thinking about it. What happened that night that caused their relationship to be soured?
She knocked on Han Qing’s office door in the evening.
“Come in.” Han Qing’s voice was cold and devoid of any emotions.
Su Jiu pushed the door open and came to the front of his desk, continuously saying to him while flipping through the documents in her hands, “About the river project, I feel that there are some mistakes, so—”
“You decide.” Before she could finish, Han Qing interrupted her while tapping his fingertips on the desk impatiently.
This was the first time that she saw him being impatient to the point where he was unwilling to listen to what others had to say. It seems as though this situation is really serious. Then, she slammed the document shut. “President Han, I know I don’t have the right to question you about your private life, but your actions for the past two days have seriously affected your work. So I have to ask you this, what happened?”
As soon as she mentioned this, he frowned his brows as if he was in a foul mood, but he didn’t burst into rage in the end. Instead, he said to her coldly, “Get out.”
Su Jiu stood there with a faint smile across her lips. “President Han, I’m a woman too. I should be able to understand from a woman’s perspective. Why don’t you tell me the situation? Maybe I can help you?”
Hearing her words, his heart twitched as his vague eyes swept across her face. She’s right. They are all girls, so maybe she would understand better. But… Han Qing’s eyes darkened as his voice sounded exhausted. “Get out.”
Su Jiu was rendered speechless because she thought that she could persuade him, but he rejected her offer in the end. “Fine. Since you want to be so stubborn, you can continue with it. However, I’m still your secretary, so I need to obey your command every time. If you have anything you need, you may look for me anytime.” When she exited his office, she couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the direction of the office. Serves you right for being single.
…
When Xiao Su came to the shop, he saw that Yan wasn’t in good spirits and decided to ask her about it, but she continuously insisted that she was fine. She even told him not to come in the future. As such, he remained silent before asking the other people what had happened in his absence.
The girls who worked in the shop didn’t know much about it, therefore, they only told him what had recently happened. After they were done sharing, Xiao Su stayed silent for a while.
“Mr. Xiao, you always come to help out at the shop a lot. Is it because you like our Miss Yan?” A girl took the courage to ask.
After being asked, Xiao Su was startled for a moment before nodding with conviction.
“Really? I knew that Mr. Xiao likes Miss Yan, but they don’t believe me. However, Mr. Xiao, I don’t think Miss Yan…”
He smiled faintly. “Are you trying to say that she doesn’t like me?”
The girl nodded hesitantly, but she quickly followed up afterward, “No, that’s not what I meant. Mr. Xiao, I believe you can get Miss Yan if you just work harder, really!”
“Really?” Xiao Su’s tone was a bit sorrowful. “I hope so too.” Sadly, there wasn’t much time left for him. Will my situation with Yan end once Young Lady Ye delivers her child?
Xiao Su was about to leave again in the afternoon and his departure would be for about half a month, so he looked for Yan to say his goodbyes. After she learnt about it, she nodded indifferently. “All the best for your trip.”
Her apathetic look soured his heart as he smiled gently. “Since I’m leaving for a long time, things may be different when I return. Before I go, can I get a hug?”
A hug? Yan gazed at the warm dashing man in a daze. Even though she had rejected him, his eyes were still filled with vague warmth for her. It was as if he never seemed to blame her for anything. She opened her mouth and shoved the word ‘no’ down her throat. Then, she nodded.
“Thank you.” Seeing her nodding, Xiao Su took a huge step forward and hugged her with both his arms. His body was huge as he wrapped his arms around her. She felt her face leaning against a warm, strong chest and his powerful heartbeat that came afterward. It came to her one beat at a time—as if it collided with her face. His hug was quite warm and it contained an aura exclusive to him, completely engulfing her.
However, she knew that she shouldn’t cling onto him for too long, so she moved and tried to break free after a moment of exchanging hugs. When she started to struggle, the arms that held her shoulder moved down to her waist and hugged her tightly.
“Um,” Yan gently groaned as she was unable to react.
His hands branded on her like a burning iron and they tightened again, causing her to lose her breath. Xiao Su suddenly released her before smiling at her. Then, he gently rubbed her head with his hand. “I’m sorry. I got carried away just now.”
Yan remained silent. You are leaving now, so what else can I say? I can only accept it quietly. “Forget it. I won’t fuss about it. Be safe on your way.”
Xiao Su opened his mouth and tried to say those three words, but couldn’t find the voice to say it. He eventually said to her resignedly, “Alright, I’ll leave now.”
Yan wasn’t sure whether what she thought was the result of her illusion or not. Why do I feel that the three words he was trying to say were… ‘wait for me’?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1135
Xiao Su left soon after and Luo Huimei approached her daughter, quietly saying, “I feel that Xiao Su is quite a nice person. He is hardworking, capable and also kind to others. He looks like a pretty worthy choice.” Listening to Luo Huimei, Yan shot her mother a gloomy look.
Luo Huimei immediately smiled. “I’m just saying. Besides, he’s already left.”
Yan thought to herself, She’s right. Xiao Su has already left and whatever she says, he won’t hear about it, so what’s the point? Elders always act like this. I’ll let her say what she wants. I won’t lose much anyway.
For the next few days, Yan was unable to lift her spirits up. When Little Bean visited the shop, she forced a smile on her face as she talked to him, but quickly became discouraged again soon after.
“Aunt Yan, the shop isn’t busy today. Can you come out and play with me?” Little Bean pulled her hand coquettishly, shaking it gently.
Yan stopped for a while before looking at him. “Where do you want to play?”
“The amusement park.”
The amusement park? Little Bean never fancied going to the amusement park because he didn’t like the things that other normal kids would like, but when they were abroad, Yan always liked to bring Little Bean along with her to an amusement park. She would scream loudly whenever they rode the rollercoaster and pirate ship and most of the time, Little Bean despised her for it. “Aunt Yan, you’re already a mature woman now. Can you not be this childish everytime? Why do you always like to play children’s games?”
Upon hearing Little Bean’s comment, Yan pulled his ears and scolded, “What do you mean that I always play children’s games? Everyone is able to use this kind of facilities for entertainment, okay? Can’t you see that there are a lot of adults here too?”
After being pinched by her, Little Bean responded while slapping her hand away, “You’re so bad, Aunt Yan. They all came with their kids.”
“Me too!”
“But I didn’t want to come. If you pull my ears again, you can come here alone the next time!”
Listening to him, she finally released her hand and changed her expression as she spoke to his ear, “Hey, I’m sorry, Little Bean. Did my pinch hurt you? Let me blow it for you. Remember to accompany me the next time, alright?”
“Hmph! You need to blow it twice!”
Those memories seemed to have happened yesterday. When she regained her senses, Little Bean was pulling on her sleeves. “Aunt Yan, can we go there?”
“Sure.” She nodded. It is rare for him to be this considerate. He must have seen that I’m not happy, so he wants to bring me to the amusement park to have fun so that I can be happier.
After informing Luo Huimei, Yan brought Little Bean out with her to the nearby amusement park, where the two of them went giddy with excitement before returning home at night. When they arrived home, Yan was so exhausted that she collapsed straight on the couch. As she closed her eyes and slept, Little Bean went to the washroom to grab a basin of hot water to wipe her face. Just when he was doing it halfway, Luo Huimei came out and rushed over to him.
“It’s okay, Little Bean. Put it down,” Luo Huimei spoke. “Let me do it.”
Little Bean obediently wiped Yan’s face before he was escorted to his room by Luo Huimei to sleep. When she returned to the living hall, she observed that Yan was rolling on the couch. Yan’s body was almost suspended in the air, looking as if she was about to fall down to the floor.
Luo Huimei’s face changed drastically as she rushed up to save Yan. However, Yan, who was quietly asleep, rolled her body again and fell straight on the icy cold floor. She groaned so loud that it sounded painful to the listening ear. The pain also caused her to wake up as she sat with a shocked face on the ground.
“You’re awake? It’s good that you’re awake. Now, you can return to your room and sleep. If you actually sleep here, I really don’t know how I’m supposed to carry you back to your room. You know that now you’re no longer the same as before. You’re a big girl now. I can’t carry you anymore.”
Yan blinked her eyes at Luo Huimei while reflecting on what happened during the day. Then, Yan quietly nodded before returning to her room, becoming so obedient that it became scary. Luo Huimei was even more worried about Yan being like that because the former had seen the latter’s sad expressions that night. Her actions lately have been quite quiet. Even though she looked as though she has no strength, she seems to suppress everything inside her by not crying out loud. If she keeps on like this, will she become ill in the end?
On the second day, the business in the shop was extremely good since it was a Sunday. Even if Yan lacked the energy, she still needed to work. When she had completed her work in the kitchen, she happened to see Luo Huimei having a chat with Mrs. Zhang after the former came out. Mrs. Zhang? Why is she here? Just when Yan became suspicious, Mrs. Zhang suddenly spotted her before rushing to the former’s front. Luo Huimei wanted to stop Mrs. Zhang, but wasn’t quick enough to do so and quickly came over with an obvious look of frustration on her face.
“Hello, Yan. You’re so amazing,” Mrs. Zhang commented. “You have a ramen shop of your own at such a young age. The business here seems good too.”
There was a saying that went, ‘Don’t hit a smiling face’. As Mrs. Zhang was still in Yan’s shop, the latter quirked up her lips and returned the smile to the former. “Mrs. Zhang, you’re being too kind. How did you have the time to visit today? Why don’t I treat you to a bowl of ramen?”
Mrs. Zhang rubbed her hands embarrassingly. “Thank you. In that case, don’t mind if I do.”
“Please have a seat. I’ll serve the ramen over to you later.”
“Alright. Alright.”
As soon as Yan entered the kitchen, Luo Huimei followed her in. “Why are you keeping her here? Don’t you know why she came here today?”
Yan was initially speechless before unconcernedly asking, “Why is she here? Isn’t it because she came out to shop and gossip due to boredom?”
Seeing that Yan didn’t take any notice of it, Lui Huimei knew that her daughter had no idea about it, so she directly said, “She came to find you a date.”
Yan was startled. “To find me a date?”
“Why else would she be here? Our house is quite far from here. Do you actually think that she would come all the way here just to have a bowl of ramen? Do you really think your magic ramen is that good?”
Yan remained silent for a moment. “It is a delicious bowl of magic ramen. You’ve had it yourself too.”
Luo Huimei was instantly rendered speechless after being called out by her daughter. Not only was her daughter adept in cooking, she knew how to season the food with flavors. With the same kind of seasoning, she could use varying amounts of it to create different flavors. This was why their shop had a better business and food as compared to others.
“You’re right. What if she comes here everyday to eat after finding it delicious?”
Hearing Luo Huimei’s words, Yan glanced at her mother quizzically. “Mom, what are you saying? Isn’t it good that she comes here to eat everyday?”
“Are you stupid? Why is it good?”
“Why is it bad then?”
“What if she doesn’t pay?”
Yan was immediately speechless. “I don’t give out free meals. If she doesn’t pay, she can’t eat here.” With that, she walked out with a bowl of ramen.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1136
Luo Huimei tagged along behind her daughter. Mrs. Zhang was fidgeting as she sat at the table until her eyes lit up as she smelled the ramen that Yan served to her. She then picked up the spoon and took a sip of the broth.
“Yan’s a good cook, and she can also make a lot of money. Whoever marries you should feel blessed!”
Yan’s mouth twitched as she heard this. Seriously? She’s only tasted the broth and already wants to marry me off? She should at least finish the whole thing. The ramen should be good enough to distract her.
Very quickly, Mrs. Zhang began to realize how delicious the ramen was and had stopped talking to Yan. Later on, she took a few more sips of the broth and resumed eating the noodles with her head down. “Mrs. Zhang, I hope you enjoy it. I’m going to go first.”
“Yan, please don’t be in such a hurry. I came here today to speak with you.”
The look on Luo Huimei seemed to be saying to Yan, ‘See, I knew this was going to happen.’
“Mrs. Zhang, perhaps we could talk another day? It’s a busy day at the shop today.”
“No. No. No. I’ll tell you now. It won’t take long. It’s only going to take five minutes of your time.”
Yan was rendered speechless.
“There’s a nephew of a distant relative of mine who came to visit his aunt recently. I met him—he’s tall, handsome, and looks down-to-earth. More importantly, I heard that he recently bought a house but has always been single. I was thinking that since you’ve been back for so long and are still single, I could perhaps pull some strings for the both of you to get to know each other.”
If this conversation took place before this, Luo Huimei would have given Mrs. Zhang her full support. But right now, especially after Luo Huimei had witnessed her daughter experience a heartbreak, this arrangement would not work and would even disgust Yan.
That was why before Yan came out from the kitchen, Luo Huimei had already rejected Mrs. Zhang’s proposal. But, she did not know that Mrs. Zhang still would not give up and even spoke so highly of that man. She was adamant that the two had to meet each other.
“Hey, Mrs. Zhang, what about my daughter? The shop is really busy right now since its grand opening, as you’d have noticed when you came in. Where would she find the time to leave the shop?” Luo Huimei interrupted her, rejecting tactfully.
Mrs. Zhang immediately shook her hand in disagreement. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll just give him a call for him to come over.”
Luo Huimei and Yan looked at each other and kept quiet. Ask him to come to the shop for a blind date?
“Mrs. Zhang, I’m afraid that might not be proper.” Luo Huimei inquired, “As you can see, things are pretty busy around here. What if we can’t tend to him while he’s here?”
“Not to worry. He’s a diligent person; he could even help you out then. Yan, to be honest, you’re a good girl. Managing this shop on your own is too tiring. Besides, your parents are aging, so you can’t expect them to always be here to help out. Why not find someone local who owns a house and is down-to-earth, and then spend the rest of your life with him. After you get married, you can even have a few chubby children. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a house full of children?” Mrs. Zhang was eloquent in her pitch about their prospective future life. However, it was a shame that it did not move Yan at all.
Luo Huimei, who saw the man the other day, however, was convinced; he was indeed good-looking. Maybe too good-looking for her ordinary-looking daughter. It might not work for the two. Then again, maybe Mrs. Zhang is right. She can still find someone down-to-earth to have a normal life with. That sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? But still, she dared not agree with Mrs. Zhang.
“Yan, he’s a wonderful person. Perhaps let me give him a call right now to ask him to come over.” As she finished, Mrs. Zhang proceeded to swiftly take out her phone and make a phone call. She was so quick that none of them could respond.
“Mrs. Zhang, this might be too quick. This…”
“Forget it, Mom.” Yan suddenly stopped Luo Huimei and let out a gentle smile. “Don’t you want me to do this? Let’s do it then.”
This startled Luo Huimei. “Yan, please don’t take it that way. You have to understand that I just want you to be happy. If doing this doesn’t make you happy, then perhaps—”
“Not really,” Yan interrupted with a smile on her face. “I feel good about the blind date. Mrs. Zhang’s right; I do need to find someone to settle down with and begin living a normal life.”
Luo Huimei did not know how to respond. Was this something that someone who had just experienced a heartbreak would say? Before Luo Huimei could add anything, Mrs. Zhang jumped in, “Come on. Your daughter’s already agreed, so why are you still hesitating? If she’s willing to do it, just let her do it. After all, it’s just a meetup. It doesn’t hurt anybody. If they feel good about each other, we’ll let their relationship develop. No one is forcing anything to happen.”
“Mom, she’s right. If I don’t like him, I’ll just let him go.”
Alas, Yan’s words put Luo Huimei at ease. “Alright then; if that’s what you want, I won’t stop you.”
It’s just a meetup and it doesn’t hurt anybody. Who knows? She might like him. Wouldn’t it be great if this could even help her get out of the heartbreak? The thought of this comforted Luo Huimei.
Shortly after Mrs. Zhang made the phone call, the man arrived at the shop. Standing from afar, Luo Huimei looked at Mrs. Zhang and the man while they spoke. He was wearing a white and spotless dress shirt; he looked proper. He might not have an extraordinary look, but it was still good enough. He even had glasses on, which made him look somewhat refined.
This first impression made Luo Huimei nod in approval. “He looks fine. What do you say, Yan?” Realizing that she did not get a response, Luo Huimei turned around and found that her daughter was looking at her phone with a frown on her face.
“What is it?” Luo Huimei remarked.
Yan instantly came to her senses and locked her phone right away before sliding it into her pocket. “Nothing.” It was a screenshot she received from Little Bean about Han Qing returning the money and asking Little Bean to return it to her. Now, Little Bean was asking her what he should do. She felt conflicted when she received this text.
At this point, Luo Huimei followed up. “What’s on your phone that you don’t want me to see? You seem to be occupied by that. Maybe we should just call off the meetup?”
Yan smiled. “Mom, I’m okay. Let’s do this.” Since going on a blind date did not need to involve any feelings, it was all up to fate whether or not they could see themselves being with each other. Perhaps I’m like Su Jiu and I’ll end up finding a husband whom I love and who loves me. By then, we’ll be a happy family with kids. Why would I still give a d*mn about that cold-blooded man?
At this juncture, Yan took a deep breath. “Is he here already? I’ll go and see him now.”
“He’s still talking with Mrs. Zhang.” As she said this, Mrs. Zhang was coming in with the guy and stopped right in front of Yan for introductions.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1137
“Yan, this is Li; Li, this is Yan. Please introduce yourselves.”
Seeing Zhou Xiaoyan, Li’s eyes underneath his glasses dazzled before he put his hand out toward her. “Nice to meet you. I’m Li Sihan.”
“I’m Zhou Xiaoyan.”
After exchanging names, they shook hands. As Yan took her hand back, he did the same politely.
“Yan, if you need an extra pair of hands in the shop, you can let Li know. Today’s a Sunday, so he doesn’t need to go to work.” As Mrs. Zhang finished, she turned to look at Luo Huimei, signaling with her eyes. “Huimei, do you mind going to the market nearby with me?”
It was obvious to Luo Huimei what Mrs. Zhang was trying to get at—going to the market was just an excuse for the two youngsters to have some alone time together. Looking slightly worried, Luo Huimei glanced at her daughter and left after Yan gave her a nod.
After they left, Yan remarked, “You don’t have to help out at the shop. Please just find a seat anywhere and I’ll treat you to some food.”
Li Sihan smiled gently. “That’s fine. Mrs. Zhang already told me that since it gets pretty busy here, you can let me know whenever you need an extra pair of hands. I may not be the most experienced person to help out, but I can always learn.” He responded humbly; although this did not disgust Yan, it also did not leave her with a good impression about him.
It’s impossible for me to feel good about him as I already have someone in my heart. Besides, no matter how well Xiao Su takes care of me, I can hardly make myself fall for him, let alone fall for someone on a blind date.
Yan felt that she agreed to this meetup in a rage, but… that was because she reckoned that she was able to forget Han Qing. She wanted to prove that she could live without Han Qing, and that she could still live happily ever after being with someone other than him.
Seeing an unfamiliar male face in the shop, the few workers looked at each other and began to whisper. Li Sihan and Yan looked good together; they knew when to speak and when not to. They even knew not to cross each other’s lines while conversing and not ask any questions that would cause awkwardness. Besides, he was a fast learner and was able to help Yan out a lot.
When it was break time, Li Sihan let out a gentle laugh. “I’ve learned so much today; it’s a new experience for me. May I come in and help out again tomorrow? I’m not working until the day after tomorrow, so I have some time on my hands.”
Yan nodded after giving it some thought. “Sure.”
“I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, Miss Zhou. I’ll be off now.”
“Mm-hmm. Bye.”
After he left, Luo Huimei quietly sidled up to Yan and wrapped her hands around her neck. “How was it? Did you guys get along well? If you don’t like him, I can reject him on your behalf. It’s okay.”
“I’ve agreed to let him come back to help out tomorrow.”
Luo Huimei’s mouth went slack. “You fancy him?”
“No.”
“So why did you…”
“He’s a nice person. Besides, I’m single, so it doesn’t hurt to look around. After all, no one wants me.”
Luo Huimei responded, “What are you talking about? How’s it that no one wants you? Yan, please be honest with me—did you agree to this meetup in a rage? Did you do this on purpose?”
There was indeed some element of rage, but Yan did not want to admit it. She gnashed her teeth. “No. I just felt that what Mrs. Zhang said made sense. I really can’t force someone to love me. Instead of being unhappy every day, I just want to be safe and happy.”
“I’m glad if you really think that way.”
The next day, Li Sihan came again and rendered a lot of help to Yan. Before he left, he asked for Yan’s WeChat ID. It was smart of him to not mention anything about the blind date to Yan at all. Also, he would not ask questions that did not concern him, making their time together comfortable. Even though they did not click extremely well, they were proper and appropriate toward each other.
A man like this; how’s he still single? Yan wondered. Apart from the house that he owned and the stable job that he had, the way he carried himself should have helped him win the hearts of many women. But since they still did not know each other too well and she was unsure if this would carry on, she decided not to get into anything too personal.
On the third day, Li Sihan dropped by after work. He was nice to Yan’s parents and helped deliver take-outs for Mr. Zhou several times. This had helped him win brownie points with Mr. Zhou, and even made himself likable to Luo Huimei. There was nothing to complain about with him.
When Yan and her family were all home, Mrs. Zhang went up to their door and commented immediately, “Yan, I heard you’ve been getting along with Li pretty well. Is that right?”
Yan did not know how to respond. Instead, she awkwardly curled a smile when she heard Luo Huimei say, “They’ve just known each other for a couple of days. You won’t know that until much later.” What’s the big hurry?
However, Mrs. Zhang had the nerve to respond with a smile on her face, “You’re right, but if they start off on the right foot, they should be fine going forward.”
“Sigh. Who knows? No one knows what’s going to happen in the future. By the way, Mrs. Zhang, don’t blame me for putting it out there now, but the younger generation is good at hiding their true selves. No one knows who each other is until the very end. As parents, shouldn’t we be a little cautious?”
“That’s for sure. But please rest assured that Li is someone reliable; otherwise, I wouldn’t have introduced him to Yan, who’s beautiful and capable. Whenever I set someone up for a blind date, I give priority to the better ones.”
“Oh?” Luo Huimei smiled. “So why have I heard that you married the daughter of a family living in the next neighborhood off to a domestic abuser?”
Shock crossed Mrs. Zhang’s face as she heard this. She quickly explained, “How’s that my fault? It takes two to tango when it comes to domestic abuse. The wife must have been disobedient or done something outrageous.”
Luo Huimei stared at her. “Can’t they just divorce then? Why did he have to beat her up? Mrs. Zhang, do you think it’s okay to beat someone up?”
Fearing that this might get blown out of proportion, Mrs. Zhang attempted to save the situation. “That’s not the case. Huimei, please don’t be agitated. I just feel that there’s more to what we see on the surface. There must be reasons why the abuse happened, and of course, it’s wrong to beat someone up. Besides, that happened in the next neighborhood. I’ve watched Yan grow up, and I treat her like my own daughter. Why would I do anything that would harm her?”
Yan heaved a sigh as she listened to the conversation while standing in the corner. Is Mrs. Zhang trustworthy? It doesn’t look like it. Though, after spending time with Li Sihan for the past few days, everything seems fine.
When Mrs. Zhang left, Luo Huimei called Yan into her room. “What do you think about Li Sihan?”
Yan responded, “He’s… okay, I guess?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1138
“You like him?” Luo Huimei asked, out of the blue.
Yan was taken aback. She shook her head and explained, “I haven’t known him for very long. Isn’t it too early to talk about this?”
“You’re right. You should just observe him for now; I feel that there’s something off about him.”
“Huh?” Yan’s heart skipped a bit as she did not expect Luo Huimei to be on the same page as her. She had been having this hunch that something was not right with Li Sihan, but she could not tell what it was. It befuddled her to think that there would be something wrong with a fine man like Li Sihan. I may just be too judgmental.
After learning that Luo Huimei shared the same thought, Yan began to wonder what her reasoning was. Is it because we’re mother and daughter, so we naturally think the same way?
“Mom, why would you feel that something is wrong with him?”
Upon hearing that, Luo Huimei let out a deep sigh. “Please don’t find me judgmental as I only want the best for you. Li Sihan looks fine and there seems to be nothing to complain about, which makes me think he might just be the perfect guy. However, come to think of it, how can such a perfect person still be single? Is it because no one’s willing to date him? Or has he just been waiting for people to introduce someone to him to get married? It seems odd to me given the times that we’re living in right now. That’s what got me wondering if he has any issues or problems. But you won’t know until you hear it from him.”
Yan concurred with Luo Huimei. “To be honest, I feel the same. Just that… he seems perfectly normal. Perhaps he’s just too busy with work?” Honestly speaking, it was not good to talk behind others’ backs.
Luo Huimei nodded her head as she heard what her daughter said. “Maybe he’s just been too occupied with work, or he just doesn’t have many female friends. Either that or most of his female friends are married. Maybe that’s why he wants to try out blind dates.”
After the conversation, the two remained silent before Luo Huimei left Yan to be by herself to consider this.
This time around, when Little Bean came to the ramen shop, he saw an unfamiliar face. It was a grown man, who had been seen around Yan a lot, speaking to her in a nice tone. Little Bean began to let out a menacing vibe the moment he saw him. Even though he was still young, he had probably inherited Ye Moxuan’s charisma. As such, the menacing vibe that he gave out was exactly like Ye Moxuan’s.
When Li Sihan came out, he was shocked to see such a refined child. Assuming that he might be a certain patron’s son, he went up to him and greeted him. “Hey there, little kid. Are you here to have ramen?” He let out a gentle smile, looking particularly kind.
However, this disgusted Little Bean—especially the way he addressed Little Bean as ‘little kid’. Nevertheless, being polite and courteous, Little Bean would never let anyone see his dark side. So, Little Bean let out a childlike, innocent smile in return. “Hello, sir.”
To Li Sihan’s surprise, not only did this kid have good looks, but he also had such a nice voice. Based on his appearance, Li Sihan could tell that his parents must be good-looking. At this point, he began to look around the shop, hoping to identify his parents.
Seeing that, Little Bean commented adorably, “Sir, what are you looking for?”
Li Sihan smiled gently and responded, “I’m looking for your parents. Did you come with your father or mother?”
Little Bean blinked his dark and deep eyes. “I’m here with my mother.”
“Little kid, so where’s your mother?”
“Sir, why do you want to look for my mother?”
Li Sihan was startled when he heard this question. Initially, he thought this kid would obediently point to a certain direction for him to bring him over, so he did not expect to be asked this question. He explained gently, “I’d like to take you to her.”
“Why do I have to go to my mother? Can’t I just sit here?”
Reckoning that this kid was somewhat stubborn, Li Sihan was left with no other option but to nod. “You can, of course. Would you like some ramen? It’s on me.”
“May I?” Little Bean tilted his head and let out an innocent look. “Sir, since you said you’d like to treat me to some ramen, do you own this place?”
“Mm-hmm.” Li Sihan felt that the kid was indeed adorable, so he decided to pat him on his head. But before he could reach for him, Little Bean took a step back. Then, he began murmuring in his heart, Bah! You and Aunt Yan aren’t even a thing yet, so how could you have the audacity to claim to be the owner of this shop? I’m sure you have some ulterior motive!
Not knowing what Little Bean was murmuring in his heart, Li Sihan added, “What is it? Don’t you want me to treat you to some ramen noodles? We can head upstairs.”
When Little Bean was about to respond, a familiar figure loomed before him. He then informed Li Sihan in a sweet voice, “There’s my mommy.”
“Huh? Your mommy’s here? Where’s she?”
Little Bean pointed across, and Li Sihan turned around. At this moment, Yan was seen walking toward them. Li Sihan was confused, so he turned back and asked, “Where’s your mommy? I don’t see her.”
“There she is! The one in the yellow sweater.”
In the next second, shock crossed Li Sihan’s face, and his mouth began to tremble uncontrollably. “W-What did you say? The one in the yellow sweater is your mother?”
“That’s right.” Little Bean tilted his head—a big smile was plastered on his face.
Li Sihan was left nonplussed, and his face proceeded to turn pale, then green. Little Bean thought Li Sihan looked like he had just been badly insulted—his lips could not stop shaking.
“Sir, are you okay?” Little Bean enquired curiously.
This upset Li Sihan very much, but Little Bean’s exquisite looks had all of a sudden reminded him that Little Bean could never be Yan’s child as she was not good-looking enough to be his parent. Besides, before the blind date, no one had mentioned anything to him about her having a child.
At this juncture, Li Sihan gradually calmed himself down. “Little kid, if she’s your mother, could we ask her to come over to confirm that?”
Little Bean was caught off guard. I’m exposed! I thought I could easily get rid of him, but… hmph! Dream on! You can never take Aunt Yan away from me! Apart from Uncle Qing and Mr. Xiao, no other man in this whole world deserves my Aunt Yan; she’s the best!
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1139
But bad Uncle Qing still doesn’t get it and he even made Aunt Yan sad, while Mr. Xiao has to help Daddy with his business and is going to be sent abroad. All this while, Aunt Yan has been by herself. It’s easy for her to be taken advantage of! I’m going to assume the responsibility of protecting Aunt Yan from being hurt by any bad person.
Before Little Bean could respond, Yan had already spotted him and begun walking toward him. In the beginning, she did not intend to come over because of Li Sihan, even though their time spent together in the past two days had been fine. Nevertheless… she had no feelings for him.
After serving the food, she was supposed to head straight back into the kitchen, but she accidentally glanced at a small figure standing in front of Li Sihan. Isn’t that Little Bean?
Seeing that Little Bean was standing with her blind date, Yan felt uneasy for reasons unbeknownst to her. She proceeded to walk over. “Little Bean, what are you doing?”
Yan had started calling him by his name and waving at him as she walked toward him. This annoyed Little Bean. Why did Aunt Yan choose to show up at this moment? Wouldn’t it be great if this could happen a little later?
Since he could not address her as ‘Mommy’ in front of Li Sihan, as that would embarrass her, Little Bean reluctantly walked up to her and called her ‘Aunt Yan’.
Having heard that loud and clear, and seeing that the two did not feel like mother and son when standing next to each other, Li Sihan felt relieved. This kid’s too naughty. How could he lie to me like that? Good thing that I saw through it.
“Good boy. Why do you have the time to come over today? How’s your mother doing lately? Is she going into labor soon?”
Little Bean nodded. “Mm-hmm. Since Mommy’s going to give birth soon and Daddy doesn’t have time for me, I’ve decided to come and visit you.” At this point, Little Bean turned to Li Sihan as if he suddenly remembered something. “Aunt Yan, who is this mister? He thought I was a patron and wanted to treat me to ramen. He even told me that he owns this ramen shop.”
Upon hearing this, the smile on Li Sihan’s face became stiff as he did not expect Little Bean to throw him under the bus. Moreover, even Yan looked startled—either due to what Little Bean just told her, or what Li Sihan said earlier.
No matter which one it was, Li Sihan could only defend himself. “It’s not what you think. I saw him by himself, so I asked if he’d like me to treat him to a bowl of ramen. He was probably worried that buying him food was not my true intention, so he asked me if I owned this shop. Helplessly, I tried to calm him down and make him feel happy.”
Standing next to them, Little Bean blinked. Tsk. I wasn’t expecting him to be this witty and come up with an explanation this quickly.
Yan had a realization. “Ahh, so that’s what happened. Pardon me, but Little Bean’s the son of my best friend, who’s waiting to give birth to her second child. Whenever this little brat is bored, he will come and visit me here. I hope he didn’t say anything inappropriate.”
Little Bean blinked. “Aunt Yan, I didn’t. I didn’t tell him anything about you and Uncle Qing. I—mmph!”
Before Little Bean could finish his sentence, Yan went up and covered his mouth. She looked at Li Sihan awkwardly and smiled. “I’ll bring him into the kitchen now. Please make yourself comfortable.” Later, she used every ounce of her strength to drag Little Bean into the kitchen.
“Stop talking nonsense!” When they were in the kitchen, Yan started to lecture Little Bean.
Little Bean angrily crossed his arms and yelled, “Aunt Yan, do you like him? Do you want to accept him as your boyfriend? Why didn’t you let me talk about you and Uncle Qing?”
“Of course I don’t,” Yan paused before answering Little Bean’s question, “but he’s my blind date now. If you do that to him, it’ll put him in a very difficult position. Also, your Uncle Qing and I are done. I’ll never be your real aunt. You… better not mention your Uncle Qing in front of me again.”
Done? “Aunt Yan, why?”
“There’s no reason. You’re a kid, so please stop asking so many questions. Anyway, you’re not allowed to mention him in front of me anymore, and you’re also not allowed to mention me in front of him. I-If you do that, I’ll never talk to you anymore.”
Little Bean puckered up his lips. “Hmph.”
“Did you hear me?”
Little Bean refused to respond.
“Huh? Answer me! If you don’t promise me, I’ll give your Mommy a call now and ask her to send the driver over to bring you home.”
Feeling aggrieved, Little Bean nodded. “I understand, Aunt Yan. I’ll never mention it anymore.” As he turned around, he immediately sent a message to Han Qing over WeChat.
While at work, Han Qing felt the vibration from his phone. He took a look at it and realized it was a message from Little Bean. Then, he clicked into it. His eyebrows went up as he read it. ‘Bad Uncle Qing, I’m not going to talk to you again. You’re a bad guy! You’re worse than Daddy!’
Staring at his phone, Han Qing was utterly confused. What did he do that caused Little Bean to think that he was worse than Ye Moxuan? Ye Moxuan should be the worst person on Earth.
Slowly, he replied with a question mark. Little Bean finally received a response from Han Qing after waiting for a long time. He was already mad at him and receiving a question mark as a response upset him even more.
Meanwhile, Han Qing found out what the reason was. Little Bean would never be mad at him or dislike him for no reason. Whenever that happened, it always had something to do with a particular woman. And now…
Han Qing felt troubled. He pursed his lips while holding his phone in his hands; he wanted to type something out but did not know what to say. She had not visited recently, and ever since he went to look for her that day, it was clear from her attitude that she wanted to have nothing to do with him anymore. Besides, he was not the kind who would put pressure on people. If that’s what she wants, I’ll just let it be. I’ll just be hard on myself.
‘Uncle Qing, do you like Aunt Yan or not?’ Another message from Little Bean came in as he was deep in thought. This question hit home for Han Qing and rendered him speechless. He typed out his response that did not address Little Bean’s question. ‘What’s going on?’
‘Answer my question first. Otherwise, I won’t tell you.’
Han Qing did not know how to respond to that.
‘Uncle Qing, if you’re still not going to reply to me, Aunt Yan’s going to leave you for someone else!’
Leave me for someone else? Han Qing’s pupils narrowed as he read that. According to the best of his knowledge, Xiao Su was the only guy around Yan. Is it Xiao Su?
‘Uncle Qing??’ Reading these two words, Han Qing had no idea what to say. We were going pretty well in the beginning, but was I being too blunt with her after that?
‘Ah! Bad Uncle Qing. Aunt Yan went on a blind date, and she might get married soon!’
Get married? Han Qing squinted as he read these two words. He could barely hold on to the pen in his hand.
After sending out these messages, Little Bean put his phone away and snorted grumpily. Even though he had done the exact opposite of what he promised Yan, this was an exception.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1140
Little Bean saw Aunt Yan’s blind date walk toward him the moment he put his phone away. He quickly pulled himself together and found somewhere to sit down.
“Hey, little kid,” Li Sihan came over and sat down right in front of Little Bean, greeting him somewhat awkwardly. “I’m sorry about what happened earlier.”
Little Bean rolled his eyes. “Are you sorry about not treating me to anything to eat or because you misspoke?”
His words embarrassed Li Sihan, who thought it would not be difficult to deal with a kid. Who knew that this kid was too smart to be fooled? Nevertheless, he was, after all, still a kid. Li Sihan reckoned he should be able to coax Little Bean into forgiving him.
Li Sihan responded, “Actually, I didn’t lie to you. It’s just a matter of time. Plus, I’ll keep my promise about treating you to something to eat.”
“But I don’t want to eat ramen.” Little Bean blinked and put on a pitiful look.
“So, what do you want to eat then?” Li Sihan could tell that his blind date was close to this kid. To prevent him from saying anything nonsensical in the future, he had to find a way to buy him off.
“Will you buy me whatever I want to eat?” Little Bean flashed a sly smile.
“Of course.” Certainly, Li Sihan did not think it through. He assumed that he should be able to afford anything that a kid would want to eat. At most, he would have to spend up to a few hundred. But that was it.
“That’s your word then. Do you drive?”
“I do.”
“Alright, sir. I’ll let Aunt Yan know that you’re taking me out for a meal. Shall we go now?”
“Sure.” Looking innocent, Li Sihan had no idea what he had got himself into.
When Little Bean went up to Yan and informed her about this, she frowned gently. “He’s taking you out for a meal? Is that appropriate? You don’t even know him well. Don’t you feel bad spending his money?”
“Since he’s using me to win your heart, Aunt Yan, I’ll just let him do it.” Little Bean blinked in front of Yan, looking innocent and harmless.
The more he reacted this way, the more worried Yan became. Since Little Bean was no ordinary kid, what should she do if he ripped Li Sihan off? At this juncture, Yan kneeled and pinched Little Bean’s cheeks. “Of course you can go out with him, but you’ll have to pay for your food. Either that or I’ll reimburse him when you guys come back.”
Little Bean was annoyed as he heard this. If he wants to make people feel that he’s a generous person, I’ll just let him do it. Why do you still want to pay him back? You can’t blame me for not liking him if you saw the look on his face when he claimed that he’s the owner of this shop.
“I understand, Aunt Yan. I’ll just pay for my food.” Hmph. As if I’ll do that.
“Alright then. You can go now.”
“Thank you, Aunt Yan. I’ll also keep an eye on him to see what he’s like.”
Yan was rendered speechless. This naughty kid…
Li Sihan then took Little Bean with him and left. Meanwhile, Luo Huimei became slightly worried. “We’ve only known him recently. Is it okay for him to take the kid with him?”
Yan looked slightly serious as she heard that. “Now that you mention it, I feel the same way. This might not be the best idea. Perhaps I should tag along.” After she said this, she quickly dashed out of the shop, only to find that Li Sihan and Little Bean had already vanished.
“Try giving him a call and ask for an address so you can meet them there. I’ll take care of the shop.”
“Sure. Sorry to trouble you, Mom. I’ll be back as soon as they’ve finished eating.”
“Sure. After all, Little Bean’s someone else’s kid. We should be careful.”
On the other hand, Little Bean pulled out an address as they left the shop and told him that this was the place he wanted to go for food. After looking at the address, Li Sihan realized he had never been to that place. Without any delay, he turned on the navigation on his phone and began driving.
At this point, Little Bean’s phone rang—it was Aunt Yan. He blinked and answered it. “Aunt Yan!”
“Little Bean, it was my oversight earlier and I should’ve gone with you. Where are you guys now? Where are you going? Send me the address and I’ll make my way there.”
Undoubtedly, Little Bean would not let her come and interfere with his plan. However, he still cooperated and nodded. “Aunt Yan, we’re not there yet. But I’ll send you the address the moment we get there.”
“No. Send me the address now. It’ll take some time for me to get there.”
“Alright then. I’ll send the address to you on WeChat.”
“Mm-hmm.”
After hanging up the phone, Li Sihan turned and looked at Little Bean. “Was that your Aunt Yan?”
The sound of the phrase ‘your Aunt Yan’ somewhat cheered Little Bean up. “That’s right. Aunt Yan’s a little worried about me.”
Li Sihan brushed his nose. “For sure. I’m to blame, really. I’m just her blind date, and now I’m taking a kid out with me. Did you send her the address already? Is she coming?”
“Sir, when Aunt Yan comes, are you not going to buy me anything anymore? Why don’t—”
“Don’t worry. I’ll keep my promise.”
“What if I order something too expensive?” Little Bean followed up.
How much can a kid spend on food? Li Sihan responded generously, “Don’t worry. You can order whatever you want. I’ll be able to afford it.”
“Alright, thank you then. It’s bustling in Aunt Yan’s shop; perhaps we shouldn’t take away her time.”
“Sure. That sounds good.” After he had bought off the kid and bragged about it to Yan, he reckoned he would stand a better chance in her eyes.
After hanging up the phone, Yan waited for the address from Little Bean. Five minutes later, she became worried when she still had not received the address from him. She sent a message to Little Bean reminding him of it. ‘Little Bean, where’s the address? Where are you guys now? How about just sending me the location directly?’
Little Bean intentionally delayed sending her the address as he had already updated Uncle Qing on his whereabouts. He even told Uncle Qing that he was going to spend some time with Aunt Yan’s blind date, secretly hoping that Uncle Qing would not be able to hold it any longer.
When Little Bean received the message on WeChat from Aunt Yan, he let out a mischievous look and replied, ‘Aunt Yan, we’re almost there. Just wait a little longer.’
Yan was speechless when she received the message. She began to feel more uneasy. Even though Luo Huimei was worried about Little Bean, Yan knew that Little Bean would never let anyone take advantage of himself. Looking at how Little Bean responded to her request, it was obvious that he did not want her to know where they were. Why is he hiding it from me? Perhaps they’re somewhere I wouldn’t allow him to go!
