Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1431

“What happened? Everything was fine, so how did the fire break out?”

“That’s right. Moreover, why is your father still in there when you’ve already gotten out? Is he still taking some things inside? Don’t panic, your father will come out soon!”

Someone wanted to take a look at Han Qing’s hands, but he kept hiding them behind his back. “Please, aunties and uncles. My father has fainted and he’s unable to get out from there. Please help him!” Han Qing begged endlessly.

The few adults realized that the situation was way worse than they had thought after hearing that Han Qing’s father had passed out. Seeing that his father was a grown adult, they initially thought that he would make it out as well since his little kid had managed to make his way through the fire. However, little did they know that he had lost consciousness.

A few of them immediately walked toward the house.

Nevertheless, they hesitated when they had reached the doorstep; they did not dare to take any steps further.

“T-This fire is raging. Will we be able to make it out alive if we go in?”

Such a sentence had made the others hesitate even more.

“Indeed. This is a large fire; it must be extremely dangerous for us to go in. Why don’t we put out the fire first?”

“Han Qing, you should go and stand by the side. Let us take care of this, alright?”

Although Han Qing was at a young age, he noticed the hesitation in their faces. Even though they were currently standing in front of the door, they were unable to get in. Meanwhile, Han Qing’s father was still inside, bearing the pain.

Han Qing reacted instantly. He quickly turned around and wanted to run into the house, but he was stopped by one of the adults that was standing near him. “Hey, why are you being so disobedient? The fire is raging and you shouldn’t go in. What if you get burned? Quick, go and wait by the side. Do not go in anymore.”

“My father! My father is still in there!” Han Qing struggled, wanting to head inside. However, the adult was dragging him backward, and his strength was insufficient to overcome his force.

“Father! Father!” Han Qing kept on yelling. It was probably his cry of despair that was filled with misery that had made the few adults unable to take it anymore.

“Why don’t we take a look inside? Even a child like him has made his way out.”

“That’s true. If a child isn’t scared of it, how can we be fearful as adults? What a shame.”

“Let’s go. Han Qing, wait for us outside. We’ll head in to rescue your father.”

The few men lifted their sleeves and were ready to head inside, but the firefighters ended up arriving the moment they were about to head in. The firefighters then immediately surrounded the whole area that was on fire before they started evacuating the people around.

Han Qing wanted to rush forward while he yelled for his father after seeing them surrounding his house.

However, a firefighter had crouched down to hold him in his arms.

“Kid, the fire is huge. You can’t just run into it. Otherwise, you’ll get hurt.”

Right after the firefighter had finished his sentence, he noticed Han Qing’s hands which were badly mutilated. “How did you get hurt?”

“Father! Father!”

Han Qing still wanted to head inside. The firefighter quickly realized what he was saying before his face darkened. “Are you saying that your father is still in there?”

“Uncle, can you save my father? Thank you!”

As a firefighter, his sense of honor made it impossible for him to refuse this sort of request. He quickly replied in a stern manner. “Alright, I will go in to save your father. However, you should promise me to stay here. Don’t go running around, got it?”

Han Qing nodded. “Thank you, uncle. You have to save my father.”

After the firefighter made sure that Han Qing wasn’t going anywhere, he quickly stood up to have a discussion with his teammates. They then headed inside to rescue Han Qing’s father.

Han Qing did not stand by the side; instead, he stood at the nearest spot where the fire was unable to harm him. He wanted to wait for his father there; his father had let him look for help after he had gotten out and he had done it! Han Qing’s father would be safe and sound!

At this moment, Madam Han had just gotten back after she had bought the cake. She was carrying the box of cake in her hands when she caught sight of blazing fire from afar. With some doubts in her mind, she quickly paced toward the spot. Her mind was blown away when she saw that it was their house that was on fire, and something was collapsing at that instant.

Without any second thoughts, she had dashed forward hastily.

There was fire coming directly toward his direction. Han Qing’s pupils contracted after recognizing the burning smell. He, who was standing still moments ago, had abruptly dodged at this moment.

He was suffering from shortness of breath as his sweat dripped along the side of his forehead. Both the air and temperature in his surroundings were rising quickly. In front of his eyes were flashing scenes of fire, his past and endless darkness.

He could hear someone calling him from time to time, but it was as if no one was calling him at all.

The first thought that came to his mind after he had slammed the door open was to save Yan. He could not let Yan get engulfed in the sea of flames, nor could he let her be in danger.

That was why he had barged in. Until he was standing at this spot, scenes from the past started to emerge before his eyes.

His past memories were like soul eaters, gnawing at his memories and his mind. His limbs had become immobile. However, he thought of rescuing his little girl who was waiting for him in the fire; he thought of her being helpless in front of the raging fire, just like how he had lost his father at a young age back then. Han Qing clearly knew that he had to overcome everything.

Han Qing covered his mouth and nose as the smoke billowed wildly. He was searching for Yan’s shadows inch by inch throughout the entire house.

“What happened?”

Madam Han had rushed her way to the entrance and shouted loudly. “This is my house—how did it get on fire? Hubby, Han Qing!”

Madam Han panicked and ran into the house before she was stopped after taking a few steps forward.

“Madam, the fire is blazing. You shouldn’t go in.”

“Why can’t you let me in? This is my house. Let me in!”

Madam Han was usually a gentle woman. She was also a reasonable person. Suddenly, she had lost her mind when faced with a life and death situation.

“Madam, we understand that you’re worried. However, fire has spread around this whole area. Please calm down. We have professionals heading inside to rescue the casualties. Please wait by the side, alright?”

Madam Han heard a soft voice coming from her bottom left when she was about to say something.

“Mother.”

Madam Han lowered her head to find Han Qing, who was standing beside her leg. She was startled before she noticed that Han Qing’s little hands had been mutilated. She immediately shed a few tears.

“Han Qing, what happened? Why have your hands become like this?”

She held Han Qing in her arms and wanted to grab his hands to get a closer look at it. Nevertheless, she had no way of doing it as she was worried it would hurt Han Qing once she touched him.

“Mother.” Han Qing’s eyes were slightly reddened as he felt troubled in mind. “Father is still in there, but there’s an uncle who has brought his men inside to rescue him. Mother, father will be fine, right?”

Madam Han was dumbfounded after hearing the words from Han Qing. She then turned her head over to look at the raging fire, and her body started to tremble lightly.

“Yes, he will be alright!”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1432

He has to be alright. Not only did he promise to look after our son and I for the rest of his life, he also swore to protect us and make sure that we are safe, carefree, and cheerful. Thus, he has to be alright!

As Madam Han thought to herself, she tightened her arms around little Han Qing and slowly closed her eyes.

Finally, several firefighters rushed out of the fire with Han Qing’s father. When Madam Han saw her husband who was almost burned beyond recognition, she felt a huge lump in her throat; she could only stare at her husband helplessly with Han Qing in her arms.

Han Qing seemed to have sensed something. He tried to turn around and take a look, but Madam Han pressed him against her bosom with all her might.

“Don’t look, Qing, don’t look. Your Daddy promised us that he would be alright, so we have to wait until he’s safe and sound, okay?” said Madam Han as she patted little Han Qing on the back of his head. Then, she continued in a voice that was almost reduced to a whisper, “He’ll surely be alright.”

When the ambulance arrived, Han Qing’s father was placed onto a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance. Just as they were about to leave the scene, Madam Han dashed forward with little Han Qing and said, “Doctor, we’re the family of the injured.”

As such, they were allowed to come along in the ambulance. Since Han Qing’s father was severely wounded, only a handful of emergency treatments could be carried out on him before they reached the hospital. Han Qing did not have a chance to look at his father at all, for his mother continued to keep him pressed against her bosom.

Madam Han protected her son very well, yet her bloodshot eyes were glued to her husband’s body.

As the paramedics in the ambulance kept trying to rescue his father’s life, Madam Han hugged little Han Qing throughout the entire time to prevent him from seeing how his father looked at that moment.

As soon as the ambulance reached the hospital, Han Qing’s father was rushed into the emergency room while both Madam Han and Han Qing waited outside. When a medical staff walked past them, Madam Han immediately stood up and said, “I’m sorry to bother you, but my son’s hand is wounded.”

Upon taking a glance at the kid’s hand, the nurse realized that Han Qing’s hand was so badly mangled to the point that one almost couldn’t stand the sight of it. She immediately said, “Oh my God, how did you get so badly wounded? It must hurt a lot, right? Hurry up and come with me so that I can treat your wound.”

As the nurse spoke, she came over and tried to hold Han Qing’s hand, but he huddled into Madam Han’s arms while shaking his head vigorously. “No! I’m not going with you. I want to wait for Daddy here.”

The nurse thought of the injured person inside; she dared not recall how the person looked, for he was so severely wounded that nobody knew if his life could be saved.

“Little boy, your Daddy is being rescued by professional doctors and paramedics inside; there is no use even if you keep waiting around here. Come with me to get your wound treated, and I’ll bring you back once we’re done, okay?”

Little Han Qing was about to say something else when Madam Han gave him a push from behind and said in a voice as gentle as the wind, “Behave, Qing. Be a good boy and follow the nurse to get your wounds treated. Once Daddy wakes up and sees you, he might be worried if your wound gets infected.”

Madam Han’s last sentence probably moved little Han Qing’s heart. Although his lips quivered slightly, he nodded his head and followed the nurse to have his wound treated in the end.

Before he left, he kept looking back at Madam Han.

Madam Han maintained a gentle smile on her face as she said, “Go, Qing. I’ll be here waiting for you to come back.”

With that, Little Han Qing left with the nurse while looking back repeatedly.

Madam Han looked at Han Qing’s tiny figure, her eyes full of guilt. As a mother, she should have accompanied her son while he had his wound treated—after all, it was only right for a mother to stay by her son’s side when his hand was so badly wounded. However, she chose to be selfish at that moment. With her husband hanging between life and death, she already had quite a lot on her plate.

The reason why Madam Han had restrained Han Qing with all her might in the ambulance a while ago was because she didn’t want him to see how horrifying his father looked.

The instant she saw the shape he was in, she felt like a knife had dug into her heart; she could never let her son witness such a scene as she was truly worried that it would cause him emotional trauma.

Little Han Qing was taken by the nurse to have the wounds on his hands treated. As his hands had been so badly mutilated that no part of it was intact, the nurse had no idea where to begin when she first saw his wound; although she had worked as a nurse for many years, she felt deeply sorry at the moment when she saw the kid compressing his thin lips without uttering a sound despite being so badly injured himself.

Because of that, the nurse was very gentle toward little Han Qing. She spoke to him in a soft voice and said, “Little boy, it must hurt a lot since you’re so badly wounded. I’ll be extra gentle, so don’t you worry. Tell me if it hurts, and I’ll be softer.”

Han Qing did not utter a word.

With that, the nurse began treating his wound. In the beginning, she kept a close eye on him for fear that he might shout or cry suddenly. As she continued, however, she was quite astonished. Han Qing neither complained nor cried about the pain; he did not even utter a sound.

Such astounding endurance from Han Qing rendered the nurse stunned and speechless, but she was soon overwhelmed with pity for him; she had guessed that he was probably worried about his father.

As the thought came into her mind, she reached out to stroke the back of little Han Qing’s head and said softly, “Don’t worry. Your Daddy will surely be alright.”

Upon hearing her words, little Han Qing looked up and stared straight at her with a look that almost broke her heart. She could only say, “I’ll pray together with you so that your Daddy ends up fine, okay?”

Little Han Qing wasn’t quite in the mood to talk to a stranger, but the nurse was talking about his father. In the end, he twitched his lips and said sincerely to the nurse, “Thank you.”

The nurse responded by stroking his head once again.

After a while, little Han Qing asked, “Aunty, may I go back to see my Daddy?”

The nurse thought about it for a moment before she nodded her head. She stood up and said, “Let me take you there.”

Now that little Han Qing’s wound had been treated, the nurse took him to the emergency room using the route they had taken earlier. Just as the two of them arrived, the door to the emergency room swung open.

The nurse’s heart skipped a beat when she heard the emergency room’s door open at this very moment.

Madam Han stood up at the same time. She scuttled over to the doctor and asked, “Hello, doctor. How is my husband?”

Madam Han’s hands were balled into tight fists as she asked the question. Her fingernails weren’t long, yet they sank deep into her flesh at that moment. She looked quite composed, but nobody else besides her knew how anxious, restless, and disturbed she was deep down inside right then.

The doctor took off his mask. He was followed by several medical staff who came out from the emergency room behind him one after another.

He looked at Madam Han with a look of apology on his face. “I’m very sorry. The family of the injured may go inside to see him one last time.”

Madam Han felt as though something had crumbled in her head with a loud boom before it disappeared.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1433

See him one last time?

That was the phrase little Han Qing heard when the nurse led him over. He almost fell onto his knees at once, but the nurse managed to grab hold of him just in time.

However, little Han Qing’s mind was preoccupied with the words the doctor had said to his mother right then. The family of the injured may go inside to see him one last time. See him one last time, see him one last time…

Obviously, the nurse had heard the doctor saying that as well. She looked at the little kid next to her subconsciously before crouching down slightly. Then, she said, “Little boy, you…”

She wanted to tell him not to get too sad about it, but how could she say such a thing when he had just lost his father? How could he not be overcome with grief?

For a while, the nurse was at a loss for words. She had witnessed such a scene many times in the hospital; every time she saw something like this, she thought she might grow apathetic one day. However, her heart still ached immensely every time she saw loved ones being parted forever.

The deceased left without knowing anything, whereas the ones who survived were left behind to suffer from grief alone.

Little Han Qing stood in place for a while before he finally walked toward his mother.

Madam Han seemed taken aback, looking as though she did not believe it to be the truth. She fell into a daze for quite some time until she heard a voice next to her, “Mommy.”

It was only then did Madam Han come back to her senses. Maintaining her initial expression, she looked down to see her son standing in front of her. Immediately, tears gushed out of her eyes as she said, “Qing, Qing.”

She noticed that her voice was choked with emotion as soon as she spoke; she couldn’t hold back her tears either. However, she quickly realized that she couldn’t behave like that as a mother, so she simply turned around and wiped her tears away. She managed a forced smile when she turned back to Han Qing, but it appeared much uglier than the look on her face while she was crying.

Little Han Qing couldn’t describe how bad he felt deep down inside when he saw his mother looking like that.

“Why are you here?” Madam Han crouched down and caressed Han Qing’s face with a smile. “Daddy is inside. I’ll take you along so that we can have a little chat with him, okay?”

Han Qing bit his lower lip without saying a word.

“Be good, Qing. Daddy must want to hear you speak at a time like this, so don’t cry later.”

Finally, Madam Han led her son into the room to see her husband one last time.

For Han Qing, he would never forget that fateful day in his entire life. Ever since he was a young boy, what happened that day had always been his inner demon; Han Qing was unable to get rid of it at all.

He couldn’t stand the sight of fires or candles, and the thought of his birthday was especially unbearable to him. He no longer wanted to remember the date he was born and what he had done that day.

The scene of his father being killed in that big fire often appeared in his dreams from time to time before he woke up with his undershirt drenched in cold sweat. This particular incident from his past constantly reappeared in his dreams, gnawing at his brain even when he was awake until it deprived him of the brightness in his life.

“Yan…” Han Qing muttered Yan’s name as his mind was in turmoil. The blazing flames before his eyes gradually transformed into Yan’s appearance before transforming again into his father, who had been crushed to the floor by a house beam while trying to save his son.

No! No way! I can’t let what happened in the past happen again!

Han Qing gradually regained his senses. He was unable to save his father back then and spent his life in regret because of that. Right now, he couldn’t bear to make the same mistake he had made in the past.

Han Qing knew that he would never absolve himself from guilt if something happened to Yan because of him. Most importantly, he must not let anything happen to her.

Han Qing banished the distracting thoughts from his mind and quickly went inside to look for Yan.

Yan was hiding in a corner of her hotel room. The taps in the restroom were all running, but the water that flowed out of them wasn’t enough to put out the raging fire.

The thick smoke choked her to the point that her eyes watered, and she had difficulty breathing. In the end, she could only huddle in the restroom.

Fortunately, she wasn’t suffering from a lot of injuries; she could only pray in her heart that someone would come and rescue her out of the fire.

The first person who came into her mind was Han Qing, but he would certainly get hurt if he entered such a big fire.

Yan shook her head the instant she thought about that. He’d better not come in, she thought to herself. It’s enough for one person to suffer such pain.

She crouched down slowly. Although Yan had tried to save herself at first, she gradually became exhausted as time went on.

As she was pondering, she heard someone calling her name all of a sudden.

“Yan! Where are you? If you can hear me, please give me an answer!”

At first, Yan thought that she was hallucinating. Otherwise, why could she hear Han Qing’s voice at this very moment?

As the thought occurred to her, she touched her face and smiled in self-deprecation; she must have missed Han Qing immensely to be hearing things just then.

“Yan!”

The voice spoke again, and it sounded much louder and nearer. Astounded, Yan looked up sharply toward the voice’s direction. It was only then she noticed the person’s tall figure as he plunged through the fire before running toward her.

Splash!

The man stepped into a pool of water, causing droplets of water to splash onto her cheeks. Yet, Yan merely squatted there in a daze.

W-What’s going on? Why is Han Qing here?

Han Qing couldn’t care less about anything else when he discovered Yan squatting there. He immediately ran over to pull her up before checking to see if she was wounded.

Yan’s eyes were fixed on Han Qing as her lips parted weakly. “W-Why are you here?”

Upon hearing her voice, Han Qing was finally certain that he found her; he immediately took her into his arms.

Yan smelled the familiar scent that belonged to him when he pulled her into his arms. However, she also discovered that the corners of his shirt and the bottom of his trouser legs had been burned. She tried to touch them, but Han Qing—who seemed to have noticed what she was about to do—pulled her away and held her hands instead.

“Let me get you out of here.”

“Why are you here?” asked Yan as she stared at him.

Han Qing’s hand paused at her question before he looked back at her.

Yan had a look of sadness and anger in her eyes as the fire blazed around her. “Speak! Why are you here despite such a big fire? Aren’t you afraid of dying?”

The cracking sound of something burning could be heard in the air. Suddenly, Han Qing pulled Yan toward him before bowing his head to stare at her. “You’re in danger, so why should I not be here? From today onward, I’m your husband.”

Yan held her breath upon hearing his words.

Han Qing continued, “So, what do you think? Why am I here? Shouldn’t I be here to check if you’re in danger?”

Yan bit her lower lip. “Aren’t you afraid that something would happen to you? Now that the fire is so strong, who knows what might happen to you if you enter the fire? Why are you so foolish?”

“Heh.” Han Qing chuckled lightly before holding her in his arms. “Nothing bad will happen. As long as I’m here, I will keep you safe and sound. Don’t worry, I’ll bring you out in no time.”

After he finished speaking, Han Qing looked around his surroundings before he added, “Wait here for a minute.”

With that, he let go of Yan and ran out of the room before she realized what was going on, causing her expression to change drastically. “Where are you going? Han Qing!”

However, she was met with zero answers. As her heart slowly sank, she thought to herself, Why is he still running out when the fire is so strong

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1434

Yan waited for what seemed like an eternity. Unable to hold back her anxiety any longer, she was thinking about running out after Han Qing when he returned with a blanket in his hand.

A blanket?

Yan watched as Han Qing came in and wetted the blanket right away before quickly wrapping it around her.

“This is the only blanket that didn’t get burned. Drape it over your shoulders right now and go out after me,” said Han Qing before he held Yan’s hand, preparing to escape the burning room soon.

However, Yan seemed to have suddenly recalled something. She paused to ask him, “Wait a minute—I have a wet blanket on me, but how about you?”

Since there was fire everywhere, wrapping a blanket around one’s body was indeed a smart move; it could prevent one from getting burned or scalded.

However, what about Han Qing? He had nothing on him. Moreover, there were more burn marks on his clothes when he returned as compared to before!

Upon thinking about this, Yan made a prompt decision and said, “Let’s share the blanket!”

“No,” Han Qing refused her flatly. “Both of us will end up getting hurt together if we share the blanket. If you wrap it around yourself, only one of us will have to suffer from this.”

“No!” Yan shook her head vigorously as she bit her lower lip hard to fight back her tears. “You’re wrong; if we share the blanket, you won’t get hurt that seriously. You said that you’re my husband from today onward, which means that I am now your wife. I don’t want you to get hurt alone, and I can share your burden.”

“You silly girl.” Han Qing reached a hand out to ruffle her hair. “I am a man. It’s only right and proper for a man to protect his woman—there’s no burden for you to share with me. Listen to me; let’s leave together right now, for the fire will only get stronger and stronger later.”

Yan could tell from the determined look in his eyes that he seemed to have made up his mind, not wanting to share the blanket with her. Having no other choice, she could only search through the bathroom until she saw a bath towel hanging by the side. “That one—you can use that!”

Han Qing reached his hand out to pull the bath towel down. It was a little short, but it was better than nothing.

He quickly wetted the blanket and wrapped it around himself before holding Yan’s hand. “Can you dash out without stopping?”

“Yeah!” Yan nodded vigorously.

Meanwhile, a group of people were waiting anxiously outside the hotel room at this very moment.

Xiao Su arrived not long after Han Qing went inside. Running at full speed, he dashed into the room like the wind before everyone else realized what was going on; he was so fast that the others couldn’t stop him at all.

A while later, a lady ran breathlessly toward them in high heels before she stopped at the sight of the fire. She asked, “Where is he?”

Han Muzi looked at the person who had just arrived. She then asked in disbelief, “Are you asking about Xiao Su?”

The person who had plunged into the fire just now looked like Xiao Su to her. However, she dared not be sure in case she was mistaken; after all, the person was way too fast. Nevertheless, both Han Muzi and the lady stood there anxiously, incredibly concerned for the person’s safety.

While Han Muzi was still puzzled by it, Ye Moxuan—who had been standing beside her—shifted his gaze to the lady and said, “He just went inside.”

Jiang Xiaobai was startled at Ye Moxuan’s answer for a moment before she followed his gaze and looked inside the room.

When she saw the blazing fire, all the blood drained from her face in an instant; her hands clenched tightly into fists by her sides.

“Did he really go inside? Isn’t he afraid of death when the fire is so dangerous?”

He really went in there just for the sake of a woman! Xiao Su, are you really unable to get over her?

Jiang Xiaobai could only say these words to herself. After all, she was at a loss for words right then and there.

Han Muzi could tell from the lady’s eyes and expression that she was probably quite close to Xiao Su—the latter wouldn’t have run after him if that wasn’t the case. However, she did not expect the person who had plunged into the room just now to be Xiao Su, and Ye Moxuan had actually recognized him.

She questioned Ye Moxuan, “Since you saw him, why didn’t you stop him?”

Ye Moxuan answered expressionlessly, “He was too fast to be stopped.”

Xiao Su was indeed very fast, for Luo Huimei and Mr. Zhou did not even realize what was going on as well. The couple simply felt as though a gust of wind had brushed past them, and they weren’t aware that someone had gone inside the fire until they heard Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan’s conversation.

“Why did another person go inside? What should we do now that the fire is getting stronger?”

Standing outside the hotel room, Jiang Xiaobai was as mad as a wet hen, yet she couldn’t run into the room with no regard for anything else.

The firefighters happened to arrive at that moment, and the building was quickly isolated soon after that. Han Muzi, Ye Moxuan, and the others were taken to the outside of the isolation area.

They weren’t of much help, so all they could do was wait. Jiang Xiaobai, who did not know anyone there, merely squatted in a corner alone. She wrapped her arms around her knees while looking at the tip of her toes.

Don’t be too selfish, Jiang Xiaobai. You knew right from the beginning that he was in love with someone else, yet you decided to date him and try things out. Since you’re aware of everything and agreed to all of it, you have to give him some time, she thought to herself.

We came to attend a wedding, but nobody would’ve expected such an accident to happen at the ceremony today. Under such unexpected circumstances, it is only normal for him to plunge into the sea of flames without regard for his own life when he can’t put this lady out of his mind yet. In that case, let’s forgive him. Besides, the most important thing right now is for him to come out safe and sound. If anything happens to him… Jiang Xiaobai dared not think deeper into it and continued to squat there pitifully.

Sadly, everyone else was preoccupied with their own worries, so no one had time to attend to the feelings of those around them.

Soon after that, there was word of Han Qing escaping the fire with Yan successfully. Both of them were generally fine, but Yan passed out not long after emerging from the fire—she had probably inhaled too much of the thick smoke. On the other hand, Han Qing was injured as well; the both of them were then taken into the ambulance. As Yan’s close friend and Han Qing’s sister, Han Muzi climbed into the ambulance along with Little Bean and went to the hospital.

Someone had to be at the scene, so Ye Moxuan volunteered to stay. Before Han Muzi left, she said to him, “Xiao Su went inside as well, so remember to keep an eye on him when he comes out.”

“Sure,” replied Ye Moxuan. Naturally, he wouldn’t forget about Xiao Su since the latter had worked for him in the past.

After the ambulance had left, Jiang Xiaobai continued to wait around. She had just seen a man getting into the ambulance while carrying a woman; they were most likely the couple who had gotten married that day.

What about Xiao Su? Since the rest of them are already out, he’ll probably come out in no time, right?

Jiang Xiaobai stood up anxiously and waited at the entrance, but she was stopped by the firefighters. Meanwhile, Ye Moxuan stood there with a cold look on his face while pressing his lips together.

The wedding banquet had gone smoothly until the big fire caused such a disruption. After learning about the situation, Song An evacuated the wedding guests promptly.

Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai was still anxiously waiting for Xiao Su to come out, yet she did not see any sign of him even after waiting for quite a while. She bit her lower lip and asked, “There are still people inside. Why hasn’t anyone else come out yet?”

As she spoke, she tried to burst through the entrance but was immediately stopped by the hotel’s staff. She shouted, “Get off me! There are still people inside!”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1435

Watching as Jiang Xiaobai struggled with all her might, Ye Moxuan stepped forward and whispered something into the staff member’s ear. However, the staff member could only look helplessly at Jiang Xiaobai and said, “We’re deeply sorry. We understand your feelings very well, but nobody can enter the scene right now. As for the people inside, we’re trying our best to rescue them from the fire.”

Despite the assurance from the staff member, Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t see what was going on inside. All she could do was wait in place anxiously while biting her lower lip in anger.

What a dumb*ss Xiao Su is. Does he think of himself as a hero? How can he just dive inside regardless of his safety when the fire is so intense? Well, the couple are already long gone, but he hasn’t come out yet. How could he think of acting as a hero in such a situation? What a stupid idiot!

Jiang Xiaobai kept scolding Xiao Su in her mind, but she hoped deep down inside that he would come out as soon as possible. He must be alright. He must be alright!

She held her palms together while praying incessantly. Since she could neither do anything nor go inside, she could only pray that he was safe and sound.

She waited for what seemed like an eternity before Xiao Su finally came out. However, he was rescued out of the fire with only a tinge of consciousness left; Jiang Xiaobai dashed toward him the instant she saw his figure.

“Xiao Su!”

Xiao Su heard someone calling his name before Jiang Xiaobai’s face appeared before his eyes. As he had come out later, his injuries were much more serious than that of Han Qing and the rest. Not only were there many burns on his body, even some of his hair was burned off. Part of his clothes were torn open, exposing the bright red flesh underneath.

Jiang Xiaobai could no longer hold back her tears after taking a glance at his wounds. She scolded Xiao Su right away at the top of her voice, “You *sshole! Why did you run inside like that? Didn’t you know that it was a huge fire? Did you even think about the consequences of running inside like that? Did you even stop to think about me?”

Her last question startled Xiao Su for a moment before a look of apology flashed across his eyes. However, it was quickly overtaken by other emotions.

Jiang Xiaobai noticed how Xiao Su’s lips quivered; it looked like he wanted to ask her a question. In reality, she knew what he wanted to ask without listening to him, but she was unwilling to answer that since she felt uncomfortable right now. Therefore, she turned her head away without saying anything.

In the end, however, she could no longer bear Xiao Su’s overly passionate gaze. Turning back to look at him, she bit her lower lip as hard as she could before answering, “She’s fine. I saw her coming out with the groom just now, and they were rushed to the hospital.”

After all, Xiao Su had gone inside the fire because of Yan’s sake; he could never ease up without confirming Yan’s safety, which was why he had managed to retain his consciousness until now. Deep in her heart, Jiang Xiaobai felt extremely uncomfortable because she was well aware of this fact. She did not want to tell him at first, but on second thought, she felt that it was wrong to keep him awake like this when he was so badly injured. Therefore, she decided it would be better to let him rest as quickly as possible before he was rushed to the hospital.

Just as she had expected, the look of worry in Xiao Su’s eyes vanished as soon as he heard Jiang Xiaobai. With that, he soon lost consciousness and fainted.

Jiang Xiaobai watched in a daze as Xiao Su was loaded into the ambulance. After being in a trance-like state for quite a while, she followed him into the rig.

She stayed by Xiao Su’s side as his family member. Knowing nothing about first-aid and being unable to help, she could only look on as the paramedics beside her tried to rescue him.

Her eyes began burning when she saw the extensive burns on Xiao Su’s body, but she fought back her tears as hard as possible. Turning her head away, she stopped looking at Xiao Su.

She thought of the fire just now, which was as ferocious as a havoc-wreaking monster. Anyone else would have instinctively ran away under such circumstances, yet Xiao Su plunged into the flames right away—that was because the woman he loved was inside.

Jiang Xiaobai was unusually silent as she lowered her eyes while thinking to herself, If the person who had been trapped in the fire was me today, would Xiao Su have plunged inside recklessly as well?

In reality, she already knew the answer—Xiao Su wouldn’t possibly do that for her.

Jiang Xiaobai’s eyes were unbearably sore; she wanted to cry, but she thought it would be too contrived for her to do so. In the end, she could only take a deep breath and blink back her tears.

Just forget it—let’s put everything else behind at this moment. The proper thing to do right now is to accompany him to the hospital for treatment and wait until he wakes up.

Meanwhile, Ye Moxuan and Song An stayed at the scene of the fire and arranged for the guests to be evacuated.

All the guests had been attending the wedding banquet merrily at first; little did they expect such an incident to happen right there. Consequently, the guests began discussing among themselves immediately.

“Why would a fire break out all of a sudden? Isn’t this place a hotel? Why is the hotel’s security measures so bad?”

“I heard that it was the bride who got burned. Could this be an act of revenge by a love rival? I can’t help feeling that the fire isn’t as simple as it seems.”

“The way I see it, this must be an act of revenge; the hotel’s security measures can’t possibly be so bad that no one realized when the big fire broke out. Furthermore, the fire was so serious that even the firefighters had to be dispatched. I would certainly not believe that nobody pulled strings behind this.”

“I was looking forward to attending the wedding banquet today, but it looks like the wedding is now cancelled.”

The guests chattered among themselves for a while before they said goodbye to Ye Moxuan and left the scene.

Song An, who had been looking after Little Sprout all this while, walked up to Ye Moxuan after the situation had settled down. She asked him, “How’s the situation over there? Are Yan and Han Qing injured?”

“They only suffered minor injuries and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment, so that shouldn’t be much of a problem,” answered Ye Moxuan, who then pondered for a while as though he was thinking about something.

Song An stared at him and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong.” Ye Moxuan came to his senses and gave a slight cough. Then, he continued, “Let’s go to the hospital to take a look after we’re done here.”

“You should go to the hospital first. It would be inconvenient to take Little Sprout there, so I’ll catch up with you later after making the arrangements.”

Ye Moxuan was actually thinking about Xiao Su just now. After all, the latter’s wounds were more serious than that of Han Qing and Yan. He hoped that all of them would be fine.

Meanwhile, Yan lost consciousness after she escaped from the fire. Feeling extremely nervous after she had fainted, Han Qing stubbornly refused to let the paramedics treat the numerous burns on his body. Instead, he continued to stay by Yan’s side until she was rushed into the emergency room; only then did he finally collapse.

Not long after that, another person was rushed into the emergency room, and Jiang Xiaobai waited outside alone with a pair of bloodshot eyes.

Several patients around her couldn’t help but discuss among themselves when they witnessed such a situation.

“What’s going on today? Why are there so many emergency patients? Besides, all of them look quite seriously injured.”

They wanted to ask Jiang Xiaobai about it, but they refrained from doing so when they noticed her reddened eyes.

Jiang Xiaobai stood outside the emergency room while struggling to hold back her tears. When Han Muzi and Little Bean saw the way she looked, they walked toward her and asked, “Are you Xiao Su’s friend?”

Hearing Han Muzi’s voice, Jiang Xiaobai looked up at the two of them with a pair of tired-looking eyes. Then, she nodded and replied softly with a simple ‘Uh-huh.’

Han Muzi tugged at Little Bean as they sat down beside Jiang Xiaobai. Then, she said, “Don’t be too worried. Now that he’s in the hospital, he’ll certainly turn the corner.”

Han Muzi did not know why she felt an urge to comfort Jiang Xiaobai, but she wanted to come over and talk to the latter when she saw Jiang Xiaobai standing there alone. She wasn’t like Han Muzi, who had Little Bean keeping her company.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1436

Jiang Xiaobai was alone at first; she did not expect Han Muzi to strike up a conversation and even say things to comfort her.

It seems like she’s doing so out of kindness; I do seem quite pitiful because I am alone, she thought to herself.

Feeling Han Muzi’s kindness, Jiang Xiaobai forced a faint smile and softened her voice slightly as she replied, “Yeah, I know that. Thank you.”

Little Bean blinked his eyes as he stared at Jiang Xiaobai. Even though Jiang Xiaobai wasn’t in a good mood right now, she couldn’t stop herself from being amazed by Little Bean’s face, for he looked rather exquisite and good-looking.

What kind of genes do his parents possess to have such a beautiful child? Jiang Xiaobai thought to herself.

As she glanced up at Han Muzi, she realized that the latter’s clear-cut and delicate facial features looked nothing like her son’s. Still, the two of them possessed similar charms—they were mother and son after all.

As expected, a child inherits their looks from his or her parents, Jiang Xiaobai said to herself before turning her attention back to the present situation.

Time was ticking away, yet no one was coming out from the emergency room yet. Instead, Ye Moxuan had rushed over from the hotel to look for his wife as soon as he finished dealing with the matters.

Jiang Xiaobai took another glance at Little Bean when she saw Ye Moxuan.

Well, the boy looks like the cuter version of the adult, so the latter must be the boy’s biological father. Nonetheless, what impressive genes this guy has! How did he manage to have a son that looks so much like him? Will I have a baby that resembles his or her parents so closely if I ever get pregnant in the future? It will certainly be interesting if I have such a baby.Ah, stop! I have to stop thinking about this. I’m supposed to be angry today! Xiao Su, you *sshole! I must give you a good dressing-down when you wake up later!

Out of the three people rushed for emergency treatment, Yan had the slightest wounds, whereas Xiao Su suffered the gravest injuries. Furthermore, he was the last person to be rushed into the emergency room, so everyone thought that he would be the last to leave.

Much to their surprise, Yan had yet to regain her consciousness even after Han Qing and Xiao Su had woken up.

The two men were up and about as soon as they were awake. Ignoring their doctors and disregarding the nurses’ advice, Han Qing and Xiao Su stayed outside the emergency room and fell silent when they heard that Yan was still being rescued.

Han Qing did not know that Xiao Su had also plunged into the fire until he saw the latter. In any event, it was rare for a person to possess such great courage, so Han Qing compressed his lips before he finally said to Xiao Su, “Thank you.”

Xiao Su paused briefly upon hearing Han Qing’s words. Then, he replied impassively, “It’s alright—I didn’t do so for your sake anyway.”

He sounded like he was laying his claim on Yan, so Han Qing shot back emotionlessly, “I know that, but I’m saying it on behalf of her because she’s my wife.”

His words instantly rendered Xiao Su speechless as the latter could find no words to answer him.

Just then, they heard a sneer from behind; Jiang Xiaobai reached out to tug at Xiao Su’s ear as she asked, “What are you doing? Are you courting death by being up and about right after receiving treatment?”

Before Xiao Su and Jiang Xiaobai dated each other, Jiang Xiaobai had wanted to tug at Xiao Su’s ears every time they reddened. However, since Xiao Su was unwilling to let her do so at the time, she could only look on without doing anything.

After they began dating, she often pinched his ear on the pretext that he had to agree to her terms unconditionally since he was her boyfriend.

Nevertheless, she only did so when they were alone at that time. He wasn’t used to it in the beginning, but now, he allowed her to tug at his ear as she pleased.

There were a lot of people here right now, yet she did it in front of everyone…

Just as expected, everyone’s gazes were drawn to them after Jiang Xiaobai spoke.

Xiao Su was a bit annoyed, but he did not lash out at Jiang Xiaobai. He could only say to her in a low voice, “Let go of me first.”

“Why should I let go of you? Go back and lie down since you’re so badly wounded. I’ll let go of you after you get back into bed.”

Jiang Xiaobai knew that he probably felt embarrassed when she saw his burning ears, but she did not want to spare his feelings anymore. After all, the fact that her boyfriend plunged into a fire in her presence just to save another woman had made her lose enough face.

It was magnanimous enough of her to not boil over with rage then and there.

Xiao Su felt a little helpless, but he could judge from the way Jiang Xiaobai looked that she wasn’t going to let go of him. Thus, he could only grab her wrist and drag her to a corner.

“What is it? What do you want to say? Are you afraid that somebody else will hear you?” Jiang Xiaobai’s lips curled up into a mocking smirk. “Why didn’t you think of what I would feel when you plunged into the fire in my presence to save another woman just now?”

Xiao Su knew he was in the wrong—he had made her lose face by doing so. However, he did not think too much when he saw the fire, for his first instinct was to never let anything happen to Yan. Even though he had immediately passed out afterward, he quickly regained consciousness after receiving treatment; he was up and about with no regard for his wounds soon after.

That was precisely what bothered Jiang Xiaobai so much.

Xiao Su almost dared not meet her gaze as he said in a low voice, “I apologize for putting you in such a tight spot regarding this matter. I’ll make it up to you after I go back.”

“Make it up to me?” Amused, Jiang Xiaobai twitched her lips and took a deep breath. As she leaned against the wall, she said in a lackadaisical voice, “Xiao Su, how are you going to make it up to me? As a boyfriend, how can you make it up to your girlfriend when you actually love someone else?”

Xiao Su could not find the words to answer her question.

“It was you who suggested that we began dating back then, wasn’t it? You said you wanted to take the responsibility because you cared, so you asked me to give you a chance. Well, I can give you a chance right now.”

Xiao Su looked up and stared at her without uttering a sound.

“Go back to your ward and lie down,” said Jiang Xiaobai in an indisputable manner. The mocking smirk on her lips had vanished right now as she stared at Xiao Su intently. “Are you going back to your ward or not?”

Xiao Su did not refuse to do so, but he did not comply either. Jiang Xiaobai watched as he stood there for a long time while looking at her with his black eyes and compressed lips. He had new wounds on his face, making his old scar look much more ferocious at that moment.

No—his old scar looks shocking as it is much more conspicuous now.

The two of them faced each other for a long time before Jiang Xiaobai suddenly realized something. She curled her lips into a smile and said, “It looks like I’m the one imposing myself on you, right?”

“Xiaobai, I…”

“That’s enough.” Jiang Xiaobai waved a hand and said with an unconcerned expression on her face, “I couldn’t stop you when you plunged into that fire; unlike you, I won’t risk my neck plunging into the fire to look for you. You didn’t care about what I thought at the time when the situation was so dangerous, let alone right now.”

As she finished her sentence, she straightened herself up and casually smoothened out her clothes with an indifferent expression.

“You may go there if you want; I won’t force you to go back to your ward. However, I want to save face, so I’m not staying to keep you company.” She waved goodbye to Xiao Su and smiled. “I’ll be going home first, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Good luck.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1437

With that, Jiang Xiaobai turned around and left without hesitation as if she had made up her mind; she did not even look back or give Xiao Su another glance.

Xiao Su couldn’t stop his hands from clenching into fists by his sides as he looked at her disappearing back.

He felt a feeling of helplessness; it was as though something had left him and was no longer in his reach. The rational part of him told him that he should run up to Jiang Xiaobai and explain himself, yet he did not take a step forward until the very end.

Xiaobai isn’t a contrived person, and the situation is different right now. As soon as I finish dealing with the matters here, I’ll go back and explain everything to her; she’ll surely understand me by then, he thought to himself afterward.

Xiao Su put his mind at rest as the thought occurred to him.

When he came back by himself later, Han Muzi took another glance at him and knitted her brows.

It was a good thing that Xiao Su cared about Yan, but he shouldn’t have come back alone. After all, Xiao Su had been badly wounded, and the two of them did not seem to be just friends.

However, Xiao Su was the only one who came back.

Has the lady left?

As Han Muzi pondered over it, the door to the emergency room opened up suddenly, revealing the team of medical staff as they appeared in front of them.

Han Qing was the first to approach the medical staff while Xiao Su followed him closely; Han Muzi, Ye Moxuan, and the others proceeded to stand behind them.

“Doctor, how is my wife?”

“How is she, doctor?”

Both Han Qing and Xiao Su questioned the doctor at the same time.

The doctor glanced at the two disabled patients in front of him before he subconsciously furrowed his brows, looking like he was in disapproval. The medical staff beside them immediately explained, “We weren’t able to talk them into staying in their own beds—perhaps they are deeply worried about the patient inside.”

“What sort of nonsense are the both of you doing?!” said the doctor before he quickly calmed down. He then asked directly, “Among the both of you, who is the patient’s family?”

Xiao Su, who couldn’t answer that question, opened his mouth without saying a word.

“It’s me,” Han Qing answered with his usual expression. “I am her husband.”

“You’re her husband? Do you know that your wife is pregnant?”

Han Qing felt as though something had flown at him from the front and hit him right on his forehead. Stunned, he was unable to come back to his senses for a long time.

P-Pregnant? Yan is pregnant?

The couple had kissed and hugged each other when they were together, but Han Qing always restrained himself. What was more, Yan had turned him down when he wanted to make out with her the last time because she was on her period.

Therefore, the only possible chance for her to get pregnant was the time they went on a trip.

Although he was drugged at that time, he could still restrain himself from doing it, but Yan…

Thinking back to what had happened that night, Han Qing still felt that he was too reckless at that time. Because of that incident, he began to plan for their wedding, their engagement rings, and Yan’s wedding dress after coming back from the trip.

However, he never imagined that something would go wrong at their wedding this time.

However, before Han Qing could bury himself in the bliss of becoming an expectant father, what the doctor said next dampened his spirits. “Your wife is very weak right now, so she might miscarry her baby. Since she inhaled a lot of smoke during the fire, she must be put under further observation for now. We’ll try our best to treat your wife and keep your baby, but you’ll have to sign a declarative statement first.”

Almost instantly, a staff member handed Han Qing a declarative statement.

Han Qing looked at the declarative statement. After a moment’s hesitation, he quickly took the document and signed his name on it before saying, “Thank you. Please ensure my wife’s safety as best as you can.”

The medical staff seemed to be surprised as they nodded. With that, the emergency room’s door was closed again.

The corridor was filled with dead silence at the moment; none of them were saying anything due to the incident just now.

Suddenly, Xiao Su reached out to grab Han Qing’s collar before he threw a ferocious punch at the latter!

Smack!

After being punched in the jaw, Han Qing staggered a few steps back before he steadied himself.

Han Muzi was taken aback by this. She cried out in alarm and wanted to step forward, but Ye Moxuan—who was standing next to her—seized her around the waist and stopped her from doing so. On the contrary, Ye Moxuan looked indifferent as though he had long expected the brawl to happen.

“Are you even a man, Han Qing? How could you possibly let such an incident happen at the wedding?” Still unappeased after giving Han Qing a punch, Xiao Su stepped forward to grab his collars before throwing another punch at him. With that, he continued to punch Han Qing in the face repeatedly.

Han Qing let Xiao Su beat him without hitting back as though he was in the wrong.

Han Muzi’s heart ached a lot as she looked on. However, when she thought of the incident and Yan—who was still lying unconscious inside—she could only stand in place while biting her lip.

Men had their own ways of solving problems; even though it wasn’t right to get into a fight, it seemed that the two of them couldn’t possibly speak amicably to each other right now. Therefore, the only thing everyone else could do was to wait.

As she expected, after Xiao Su had punched Han Qing several times to vent his anger, Han Qing caught his fist and said, “It’s my fault for failing to keep her safe.”

“It turns out that you do know you failed to keep her safe! It’s fine that you hurt her before; now that you want to be together with Yan, you should take good care of her. How could there be such a big slip-up at the wedding? Will you take the responsibility if something happens to her?”

Just then, Yan’s parents arrived in a hurry as the two of them were fighting.

They were deeply worried about their daughter before, but when Han Qing and Yan were loaded into the ambulance, Mr. Zhou felt that it would be inappropriate for them to leave before the guests did as the wedding’s hosts. Since Han Qing and their daughter had been rushed to the hospital, Mr. Zhou decided to deal with the ensuing troubles with Luo Huimei first while asking Han Muzi to go to the hospital with Little Bean.

They hurried to the hospital as soon as they finished dealing with the matters. However, little did they expect to see Xiao Su and Han Qing fighting when they arrived. Yan’s parents immediately stepped forward to mediate between the two men. “What’s wrong with the both of you? Why are you two fighting with each other when both of you are so badly wounded? Do you think that your wounds are not painful enough?”

Xiao Su stopped being rash upon meeting Yan’s parents. Furthermore, he had already calmed down at the moment, for Han Qing did not hit him back after he punched the latter several times.

He was initially on the verge of exploding when he heard that Yan’s life was in danger because she had breathed in a lot of smoke despite being pregnant.

Luo Huimei pulled the two of them apart to discover that Han Qing’s face was full of bruises. She felt deeply sorry for him immediately as she asked, “Are you alright? Let me call the doctor to treat your wounds.”

“I’m fine, Mom.”

Luo Huimei was stunned when Han Qing called her ‘Mom,’ but she soon recollected herself. Indeed, Han Qing would have been her son-in-law if the wedding had gone smoothly, so it was only normal for him to call her ‘Mom’ as Yan did.

Even though an incident had broken out this time, she was quite moved deep down inside when she saw how Han Qing had plunged into the fire recklessly to save her daughter. After all, her daughter married a person who considered her life more important than his own. Therefore, she was truly not worried about her daughter’s future.

Although she was still panic-stricken after surviving the fire, on the flip side, she would’ve never known how much this man would give for her daughter until such things happened.

“Stop fighting, the both of you. Now that the matter has come to this, you should go back to your wards—not to mention that the both of you have been so badly wounded. We’ll be staying here.”

Mr. Zhou’s tongue wasn’t as smooth as Luo Huimei’s. Preoccupied with his daughter’s condition right now, he asked frankly, “How is Yan? Is she alright?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1438

After all, Mr. Zhou had seen Han Qing protecting his daughter perfectly with his own eyes when they first came out. Yan had a blanket wrapped around her, whereas Han Qing only had a small towel for modesty; his clothes were torn and ripped while burns littered his skin. At a glance, one could see that he had successfully protected Yan, but the two men were still fighting even after they arrived at the hospital. Their bodies were obviously in good shape, but what about Mr. Zhou’s own daughter? She was nowhere to be seen, and the emergency room’s light was still glaring overhead. At his question, the entire place fell silent.

Luo Huimei consoled him a moment later and said, “It’ll be okay. Yan was born under a lucky star, so she’ll definitely be alright. Stop asking pointless questions.”

Mr. Zhou pursed his lips. Seeing that Yan was still in the emergency room, he was full of worry. If he could barge in and take a good look at her, he would not hesitate to do so. Since Luo Huimei and Mr. Zhou were both present, Xiao Su did not make any other movements. His face was stiff as he sat down, emanating an aura that kept people from approaching him.

Han Muzi took advantage of the current calm and rushed over to Han Qing’s side, asking him softly, “Are you alright, Qing?”

At the sight of his sister, Han Qing’s frigid eyes warmed up slightly. He pressed his lips together before saying in a warm tone, “I’m alright.”

However, Han Muzi was still worried. “Does it not hurt? Do you want the doctors to check up on you?” As soon as she spoke, she felt like she had said the wrong thing; Yan was still in the emergency room, so how could Han Qing possibly leave? Clearly, people had a tendency to become more flustered when there were more things going on at the same time.

Just then, Ye Moxuan walked over and grabbed Han Muzi, stealing her away from Han Qing’s sight. The family of three then sat down on the chairs by the side.

As time ticked by, the door to the emergency room finally swung open at last. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief when the doctors announced that Yan and the child in her belly were fine; they only needed to be kept for observation in the hospital a little while longer. After the collective sigh, surprise rocked Mr. Zhou as he whispered to Luo Huimei, “Yan is pregnant? When did she get pregnant? Isn’t she still unmarried?”

Luo Huimei simply couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes upon hearing his words. “Do you think that young people nowadays are like us when we were young, you fossil? Stop making a mountain out of a molehill.” Luo Huimei placed a hand to her chest. “It’s fortunate enough that both the mother and child are safe. Otherwise, this will really be…”

At any rate, everyone was fine now; they could all stop worrying. Han Qing and Yan’s parents immediately went to visit Yan after she was transferred to a regular ward. However, Xiao Su no longer had any business being there because he was an outsider. Once he knew that Yan was alright, he proceeded to leave.

Han Muzi felt an inexplicable feeling of pity as she watched Xiao Su’s lonely figure, but it was quickly put to the back of her mind; there were still many important things to look into. For example, how did the fire start? Why didn’t Yan know that there was a fire? Judging by how strong and powerful the fire was, she would’ve been able to immediately realize what was going on when she was in her room, so why did Yan know nothing about it at all? Those were questions that had to be thoroughly investigated.

Therefore, Han Muzi conveyed her thoughts to Ye Moxuan. After listening to her, Ye Moxuan fell silent for a while before he replied, “You don’t have to worry about this—just leave it to me.”

Surprisingly, Little Bean had the same idea as his father, which was a rare occurrence. “That’s right, Mommy. You don’t have to worry anymore—Daddy and I will look into everything properly.”

Ye Moxuan swept his gaze over Little Bean upon hearing that, the disdain in his eyes very evident. Little Bean said to him indignantly, “What’s with that look, Daddy? Don’t you believe me?”

Ye Moxuan did not respond to him, but this clearly answered Little Bean’s question. Little Bean mentally gave an angry grunt, deciding that he would get to the bottom of this matter sooner than his father.

Meanwhile, Xu Yanwan had received a wedding invitation. The day before she received the invite, she had gone drinking and ended up absolutely hammered. This was the first time she had lost control of herself to this extent, and it was also the first time she had drunk so wildly without regard for any consequences. It’s only just this once, Xu Yanwan thought to herself in a drunken state. Just this once in her life—she would not be this distraught over a man ever again in the future.

Xu Yanwan had no idea how much alcohol she had imbibed later on. Regardless, she was already back in her own room when she woke up. It was completely silent; other than the splitting headache she had, it seemed like nothing had happened yesterday. She gripped her head as she sat up, turning around to look outside the window. The sun was already up in the sky, and she didn’t know what time it was.

She hadn’t thought of going to Han Qing’s wedding. She wasn’t a woman with a big heart; Xu Yanwan couldn’t bring herself to see her beloved man step into the wedding hall with another woman, so she did not plan to show up at the wedding. However, she was contemplating if she should go. After all, Han Qing had helped her out a lot. If it hadn’t been for him, the Xu Family wouldn’t have been able to be revived. With that thought in mind, Xu Yanwan slowly got out of bed to wash up and dress herself. After hesitating for a while, she picked up the invitation and went on her way. I should go. Their wedding should be well underway if I go at this hour—I can just give them a toast and leave.

That was Xu Yanwan’s reasoning. However, she hadn’t expected to see a crowd of people outside the wedding venue when she arrived. The place was sealed off, so she wasn’t able to enter at all. She was confused. What was going on? Had she come to the wrong place? Xu Yanwan pulled out the invitation and double-checked the address. She was at the right place, but she still felt that it was odd. Therefore, she had no choice but to ask the people around her, “What’s going on? Isn’t there supposed to be a wedding here today?”

The person she called out to gave her a strange look before looking at the invitation in her hand and realizing what was going on. He then replied, “You’re here for the wedding? Why are you only here at this time?”

“I got delayed due to some other matters. Has the wedding ended already?” That quickly? Xu Yanwan could feel herself relaxing as she sighed. If the wedding was over, it would be great for her—she wouldn’t need to go in and toast anyone.

“It didn’t exactly end; a fire broke out in the venue, so the wedding has been canceled for the time being.”

At the mention of a fire, Xu Yanwan raised her eyebrows as her heart jumped in response as well. “A f-fire?” What’s going on? She wasn’t sure why, but she felt a sense of dread gradually blooming in her chest when she heard the word ‘fire’.

“That’s right. I’m also one of the invited guests, but I’m not quite sure about the details. I just heard that the bride was caught in a fire; the groom then charged in to save her without regard for his own life. When the fire trucks and ambulances came, both the bride and groom were carted away together in an ambulance.”

“What did you say?!” Xu Yanwan was in utter shock, the color from her face draining completely in an instant. She grabbed the man’s collar in disbelief as she cried out, “Who was sent to the hospital?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1439

She was truly frightened by this piece of news!

When she first heard there had been a fire, she thought that it was because the hotel hadn’t taken the appropriate measures. Rather, she thought Han Qing canceled the wedding because they were worried that the fire had affected the venue too severely. Upon hearing that he had been taken away in an ambulance, Xu Yanwan had really fallen into a panic.

How did this happen? How was this even possible?

“H-Hey, what’s up with you? Why are you holding me by the collar? Let go of me.”

“Say it—how are they now?” Xu Yanwan did not release her grip on him as she continued to interrogate the person, her expression and eyes full of panic and worry.

The person looked resigned. “I don’t know either, miss; I’m just a guest at the wedding. All I know is that they got into an ambulance. As for what happened to them after that—well—it’s not like I was in the ambulance with them, so how can I answer that?”

At his words, Xu Wanyan slowly regained her calm.

That was right. He had a point; he hadn’t gone with them in the ambulance, so how would he know about any new developments? Never mind, she shouldn’t have forced him like that.

Thinking about this, Xu Wanyan loosened her grip on his collar and said in a low voice, “I apologize, I was too emotional there earlier. In that case, do you know which hospital they went to?”

“Yanwan.”

A familiar voice drifted into her ears; Xu Yanwan lifted her head to see the tall and strapping Lin Xuzheng approach her.

“Lin Xuzheng.”

Upon seeing him, Xu Yanwan walked over to him with brisk steps. Her first words to him were, “How is Han Qing?”

“I am not sure about his overall situation, but I do know which hospital he’s been taken to. I’m about to head there; do you want to come with me?” Lin Xuzheng waved the car keys in his hand at Xu Yanwan. The latter did not even think twice as she answered, “Yes.”

“In that case, let’s go.”

Lin Xuzheng took her to his car. There wasn’t anyone else around while they were on the way to his car, and the place was completely silent. Suddenly, Lin Xuzheng spoke up. “I heard that the fire happened out of the blue. Apparently, it started in the dressing room where the bride was. Don’t you think it’s strange?”

Upon hearing his words, Xu Yanwan’s originally quick steps slowed down instantly. Her scalp was crawling as she thought over Lin Xuzheng’s words.

Was he probing her? Why else would he say such a thing?

At that thought, Xu Yanwan bit her lips as she met Lin Xuzheng’s eyes head-on. “Lin Xuzheng, are you suspecting me?”

Upon hearing her words, a light smile played on Lin Xuzheng’s lips. “Why are you being jumpy? I was just telling you how it happened. Why are you acting like this has something to do with you?”

“That’s because I have feelings for Han Qing,” Xu Yanwan replied without missing a beat. “Yan and I are rivals for his affection. When you told me that the fire started in her dressing room, weren’t you aiming that sword at me?”

“Mm, judging by your words, you are indeed the one who is most likely to have started this incident.”

If he had denied it, Xu Yanwan might have just thought that he was testing her. However, Lin Xuzheng plainly admitted to it, and she was instantly rendered speechless.

A moment later, all the color had disappeared from Xu Yanwan’s face.

“Lin Xuzheng, what exactly do you mean by that? Are you saying that I was the one who started the fire? Have you not stepped back to think about how I would even have the ability to do that? No, I should be asking you if you actually thought that I’d be the kind of person who would do that. Xuzheng, you’ve watched me grow since I was a child. Even if you’re not my brother by blood, you think of me as a sister, right? Yet, you’re doubting me right now. Still, you are right. Under these circumstances, it’s hard to believe that I’m not the culprit behind this.”

Nonetheless, it was a fact that she didn’t do this. At any rate, the path she walked was a straight one.

Unexpectedly, Lin Xuzheng stared at her and said meaningfully, “I wasn’t talking about you; I was just analyzing the entire incident. After all, Yan had been harmed, and you are not on the same side. If you weren’t the one who did it, who do you think could’ve been behind it?”

“How would I know who did it? I…”

Xu Yanwan attempted to defend herself, but she suddenly paused in the middle of her words; a thought had seemingly come to her mind. She recalled the words that He Lianjing had said in front of her.

He told her that he would serve her and do something on her behalf.

Could he be the one who did this?

At that thought, all color drained from Xu Yanwan’s face. She felt as though she had plunged into an icy lake.

I-If He Lianjing was truly the one behind the incident, he…

Lin Xuzheng’s gaze never once left Xu Yanwan. Naturally, he had picked up on the shift in her expression, and he came to a realization as well. He raised an eyebrow and questioned, “From your expression, it seems like you know something.”

His voice pulled Xu Yanwan’s mind back to the present. Her lips moved as she met Lin Xuzheng’s clear gaze, her voice struggling to make it out of her throat.

“No, I don’t know anything.”

She lowered her gaze, not daring to meet Lin Xuzheng’s eyes again. “Regardless, I didn’t do it. Even if I don’t like Yan, I will never do something that will harm Han Qing.”

She knew that Han Qing saw Yan as being more important than himself; harming Yan was equivalent to making a move on Han Qing’s life, so Xu Yanwan had never thought of doing anything to Yan.

If she actually did anything to draw Han Qing’s attention, that would probably be the same as harming herself.

However, she had already tried it once; Han Qing didn’t give her any extra concern.

As for He Lianjing, she suspected that it might’ve been him, but details of the incident were still muddy. Furthermore, she hadn’t seen He Lianjing since that fateful night; he had probably gone back overseas since he couldn’t see any hope in her anymore. Why would he do such a thing for her?

However, her earlier expression had given away too much. That was why Lin Xuzheng’s gaze kept lingering on her, never leaving once. Just as Xu Yanwan thought that she couldn’t bear it anymore, that scorching gaze finally shifted away slowly. The sound of the car door being opened soon followed.

“Get in. We’re going to the hospital first.”

Xu Yanwan finally released a breath upon hearing his words, following Lin Xuzheng into his car.

As he drove, Lin Xuzheng mulled things over. In truth, he never once suspected Xu Yanwan. If she had actually wanted to lay a hand on Yan, Xu Yanwan had plenty of chances before this. She wouldn’t have needed to wait until today, and besides, Lin Xuzheng had been watching from the side while she was interacting with the others.

When she heard about the fire and Han Qing’s injuries, Xu Yanwan clearly showed that she was confused; she had no idea what had happened at all. That meant that she hadn’t participated in this incident.

Still, even if she did not have a hand in this, did this event have nothing to do with her at all?

Unfortunately, things weren’t that simple.

Of course, Lin Xuzheng didn’t voice those thoughts; one had to always dig deeper to get the truth. He could only make a conclusion once he had confirmed everything.

After Xu Yanwan buckled her seatbelt, her thoughts wandered far from her. While she hadn’t seen He Lianjing these few days, she had gone drinking last night. Yet, she was in her own home when she woke up. Apart from He Lianjing, who else could have brought her home?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1440

However, she couldn’t figure out why he would possibly do that.

Causing an accident for Yan and making Han Qing suffer wouldn’t benefit He Lianjing at all. On the contrary, Xu Yanwan would dislike him even more and regard He Lianjing as a very volatile person.

Back then, Xu Yanwan was reluctant to entertain him. Firstly, he was too much of a skirt-chaser. Secondly, the unstable aura he gave off had been too strong. Every time she looked into his eyes, Xu Yanwan had a feeling that she was looking into a beast’s eyes instead—the kind of wild beast that lurked in the night and sent chills down your spine once it set its sight on you.

She didn’t like it—not one single bit.

He Lianjing, are you the one behind this?

Xu Yanwan’s mind was completely muddled. She bit her lip, hoping that Han Qing would be able to survive this safely.

When they reached the hospital, Xu Yanwan watched from the side as Lin Xuzheng spoke with Han Qing. Her heart ached uncontrollably when she took in the injuries riddled all over his body.

Han Qing couldn’t leave the hospital because Yan was being hospitalized there. Coupled with his severe injuries and the fact that Yan was still unconscious, Han Qing kept himself by Yan’s side. Luo Huimei and Mr. Zhou kept urging him to rest, reassuring him that they would stay with Yan as their duties as parents. However, Han Qing didn’t heed them at all; he still insisted that he would keep her company.

In the end, they simply followed his wishes as they were unable to convince him.

Han Qing wasn’t the only one there; even Han Muzi stayed by Yan’s side as well. However, she still had Little Sprout waiting for her at home. In the end, Han Muzi could only leave some words before returning home.

When Lin Xuzheng brought Xu Yanwan over, Han Qing only spoke to him; not even once did he look at Xu Yanwan properly. When they left at last, Xu Yanwan was still upset.

The first thing Xu Yanwan did when she went home was to call He Lianjing.

After she dialed his number, the message that greeted her instead was one telling her that He Lianjing’s phone had been switched off. She was a little curious and confused; where had he gone off to? Was he actually the one who started the fire that nearly burned Yan to death?

Xu Yanwan was deep in thought when she pushed her door open, but she immediately became rooted to the spot. Lying on her bed was He Lianjing, whom she hadn’t seen all this while. He even squeezed out a smile when he saw her enter. “Back already?”

Xu Yanwan jumped in fright; her steps were stilling where she was, not taking another step forward. She watched He Lianjing warily.

“Why are you here? What are you doing here? Don’t you know that this is my room? Also, how did you get in?”

Her guarded look hurt He Lianjing’s feelings. He sat up from the bed and asked, “Why are you being so wary around me? I was even the one who brought you home after you got drunk last night. I simply grabbed your keys while I was at it. Got a problem with that?”

As he spoke, He Lianjing conjured a set of keys into his hand. Xu Yanwan’s expression shifted suddenly when she saw those keys.

“He Lianjing, what’s the meaning of this? Why did you take my keys? Don’t you know that taking things without permission is theft?”

“Theft?” He Lianjing smiled in amusement. “With my relationship with you, how is taking your keys theft? Besides, I asked you about it last night and you agreed. You may have been drunk, but an agreement from a drunk person still counts, right?”

Xu Yanwan had been so drunk last night that she had fallen unconscious; she didn’t remember anything else after that. There were no memories during that period. How could she possibly have said anything then?

“Besides, I helped you out with something. Shouldn’t you be thanking me?”

Upon hearing that, Xu Yanwan’s breath hitched as her expression shifted again.

“What do you mean by that? Are you saying that…”

She had been so surprised by He Lianjing’s sudden appearance in her bedroom that she had forgotten to ask him about the fire that happened earlier today; she had planned to ask him during her earlier phone call. Now that He Lianjing himself had brought it up, Xu Yanwan didn’t even need to question him to know for sure that he was the one behind it.

As she thought things over, He Lianjing got up and walked over to her side, his arms encircling her waist wantonly before pressing her over to the door. His voice was low. “Do you like the present I gave you?”

Now that she knew that he was the arsonist, Xu Yanwan felt that her heart had been strung up. Her face was completely devoid of color as she eyed him in utter shock.

Just what kind of person could do something that would potentially kill someone? How much apathy would they need to have?

He Lianjing’s eyes crinkled up, the smile on his face growing malicious. “It seems like you’re trembling.”

Xu Yanwan didn’t speak, but her body quivered even more violently.

“Are you that scared?” He Lianjing’s fingertips roved over her neck, finally coming to a stop on her face. He leaned in closer. “What are you scared of? It’s not like I’ll hurt you. I told you before that I would be at your service; whatever you don’t have the courage to do, I have already helped you to do so.”

“L-Let me go.” When Xu Yanwan spoke, her words no longer came out smoothly. Her eyes were filled with fear as she eyed He Lianjing. She had known that he wasn’t someone to be crossed, so she never wanted to give him any hope. However, she hadn’t expected him to follow her here, and she certainly hadn’t expected him to dig deep into all of her affairs. Why? Why did he do this?

“Don’t be scared.” He Lianjing moved his arm, pulling her even closer to himself. He lowered his head to take a whiff of the fragrance on her body. “I simply like you. I’ve done so much for you, so please give me a response, alright?”

She didn’t answer him. He Lianjing felt the woman in his arms tremble even more violently than before, which displeased him to no end. He had committed arson because he wanted to win her over, not make her fear him.

Xu Yanwan only regained her senses and her voice after a long pause.

“H-He Lianjing, what you did is illegal. You’re going to go to prison for this.”

“I know.” He Lianjing’s lips quirked up. “That’s why I’m going to leave soon. Do you want to come with me?”

“No!” Xu Yanwan shook her head furiously. “That’s impossible. Are you going to run?”

“Of course. I don’t want to live the rest of my days stuck in there.”

Xu Yanwan looked at He Lianjing. She didn’t know what she was thinking as she suddenly blurted out, “Turn yourself in.”

Upon hearing her words, He Lianjing frowned and looked at her in confusion.

“If you surrender yourself, you can lighten your sentence. You may have started the fire, but I already saw it myself when I went to the hospital—they’re alright. As long as they haven’t lost their lives and you turn yourself in in time, I’m certain they will reduce your sentence.”

Xu Yanwan truly didn’t want to admit there was a relationship between the two of them, but at the thought that he had done such a thing for her, how could she live with herself if he went to prison because of her?

Hence, all she could do was advise him to surrender.

“Turn myself in? Heh, Yanwan, do you think I’m the kind of person who’d just turn myself in? Unless…”

“Unless what?”

“Unless you agree to always wait for me until I’m released if I hand myself over.”
