Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1441

This unreasonable request made all the color disappear from Xu Yanwan’s face; she didn’t like He Lianjing at all. In fact, her dislike had evolved into loathing. His request for her to wait for him was practically absurd. After all, even for actual couples, the other half certainly wouldn’t wait for their partner if they had been sent to prison, never mind when she and He Lianjing had no relationship with each other at all.

Strangely enough, He Lianjing wasn’t surprised when he watched her face gradually turn pale. He simply eyed Xu Yanwan as he said, “Are you that afraid? Don’t worry, I was just joking. You’re not my girlfriend or wife; why would you wait for me till the end of days for me to be released?”

He does know that. Why did he say such a nonsensical thing then if he clearly knew that?

As she was thinking about this, He Lianjing suddenly hunched over and leaned in close to her face. “Since you aren’t willing to wait for me, I don’t need to turn myself in anymore, am I right?”

Xu Yanwan finally used her strength to push him away, her feet stumbling as she retreated; her back was now against the hard surface of the door. She panted heavily as she regarded He Lianjing with fear.

“Don’t be so scared of me; I didn’t do this because I wanted to scare you.” He Lianjing reached out to touch her forehead. “Alright, I’m going to leave now. Don’t tell anyone that you saw me. If the police ask, just say that you have no clue at all, got it? Luckily, you got yourself drunk last night and never went out. No matter what, they won’t tie this incident to you at all.”

With that, He Lianjing smiled casually at Xu Yanwan before leaving her house.

After He Lianjing left, Xu Yanwan felt all her strength leave her. Slowly, she slid down the wall, releasing the breath that she had been holding.

She had really been horribly frightened there, because she had witnessed the desire at the bottom of He Lianjing’s eyes clearly. She was even worried that He Lianjing would suddenly snap and do something to her. She had lived her life properly; if He Lianjing had actually done something to her, she truly wouldn’t be able to continue to live.

Fortunately, He Lianjing had finally left. Judging from how ferocious He Lianjing had looked earlier, if he made a move on her, she probably would have no way to fight back.

Xiao Su’s injuries stung, making him grit his teeth in pain as he went home. He should have been resting in a hospital bed, but he didn’t dare to rest at all; the only thing he could do was to rush home. However, he didn’t dare to return home like this. After all, Xiaobai seemed very angry today, so Xiao Su bought plenty of food for Jiang Xiaobai on the way back. He had even bought a pearl necklace for her when he passed by a jewelry shop.

When he entered the shop with his injuries, the shop assistant eyed him in surprise. It was only when Xiao Su paid for that pearl necklace that she finally spoke up. “Sir, is this a present for your girlfriend?”

Girlfriend, huh?

Xiao Su pressed his lips together and nodded. “Yes.”

He and Jiang Xiaobei were already a couple.

The shop assistant smiled. “Sir, you’re quite nice to your girlfriend.”

“Nice?” Xiao Su was not sure of that. Did he treat Jiang Xiaobai nicely? If he had been nice to her, she wouldn’t have turned and left in such a huff.

“Of course, sir. You’re already injured this badly, yet you still thought of buying a present for your girlfriend. You should take care of yourself.”

Oh, she’s talking about the injuries I sustained. Xiao Su was at a loss; didn’t he need to make it up to her for angering her?

Xiao Su rushed home after he finished buying all the gifts and food. On his way back, Xiao Su kept thinking about what he should say to make Jiang Xiaobai happy when he saw her later. He kept mulling it over, but he thought that he wasn’t gifted when it came to words; he truly had no idea what to say to cheer her up.

Xiao Su was still agonizing over this when he pushed open the door to his home. However, he realized that the interior was pitch black, and none of the lights were switched on. The house was also utterly silent—no one was home.

Is she already asleep?

Xiao Su switched on the light by the doorway and opened the shoe cabinet to take a look. The shoes didn’t seem to have been disturbed. Did Xiaobai not return at all?

At the thought of that, Xiao Su’s expression shifted. He took the shopping and headed to the bedroom.

Just like the living room, the bedroom was also dark and devoid of people. The blanket did not look to have been touched at all. It was folded up neatly just like when he first left during the day.

Did it mean that Xiaobai had never come back throughout the day? Where did she go after she left the hospital then?

Xiao Su placed the gift and the food onto the table before taking out his phone to dial Xiaobai’s number.

“Sorry, the number you have dialed is unavailable.”

All he heard from his phone was the sweet yet frigid voice of a woman.

Xiao Su hung up and stuffed his phone back into his pocket. He felt unusually irate. After glancing at the bedspread and the gifts, he turned and left to find her.

At that same moment, Jiang Xiaobai was dancing at a random bar.

The music boomed and blared, threatening to deafen her. Jiang Xiaobai was squeezed onto the dance floor, her body swaying chaotically to the beat of the music. This was the first time she had ever stepped foot in a place like this; she had been worried about her lack of dancing skills, but to her surprise, she realized that there were plenty of others who couldn’t dance at all once she entered and observed the place for a while.

In nicer terms, they were dancing; in truth, it was simply a mass of people who were jerking and snapping around like they were possessed by the music. At least, that was how it seemed with the lights overhead and the rhythm of the music. However, if one took the music and lights away and slapped some hospital gowns on them, it actually wouldn’t look out of place, so Jiang Xiaobai left her worries behind after seeing these people dance. She followed the beat and just waved her limbs around. After all, she had come here just to let off some steam. She screeched and jerked her body around, letting out all the anger she had bottled up in herself.

Fang Tangtang was screaming in front of her; it was as though she was speaking to Jiang Xiaobai, but the latter couldn’t hear her.

After dancing for a while, Jiang Xiaobai felt tired. She turned and headed for the bar counter to order a glass of wine.

“How was it? Isn’t it awesome?” Fang Tangtang scooted over and pressed herself to Jiang Xiaobai’s side as she asked her.

“Yeah, it’s okay.” Jiang Xiaobai replied nonchalantly before lifting her glass to drink. She still didn’t feel any kind of drive, but the people around her were clearly on a rush, having gotten high from the fun they were having.

“Hey pretty lady, you’ve got some sweet dance moves.”

A tall and striking man came over, clinking his glass with Jiang Xiaobai’s. His gaze quickly landed on her face. “Are you interested in taking to the stage with me?”

The stage?

Jiang Xiaobai squinted and saw a tall platform. She had danced in the pit, but dancing on the stage would be different; below that stage was a group of hungry, wolfish men.

“You’re so pretty that you’re sure to make them scream if you go up on stage. You’ll definitely make the audience go crazy.”

Jiang Xiaobai simply smiled icily at his words. “Is that so?”

The man leaned in shamelessly. “Of course—we can make a bet if you don’t believe me.”

Jiang Xiaobai had originally wanted to ask who he was and to get out of her sight, but someone had grabbed her arm. She lifted her head to see Xiao Su, who should have been in hospital.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1442

Jiang Xiaobai felt as though something had crashed into her heart the instant she caught sight of Xiao Su; it hurt badly.

Fang Tangtang gasped internally, clearly shocked to see Xiao Su there. Xiao Su was incredible; neither of them had told him where they went, but he was still able to find them. However, Xiao Su looked worse for wear with all the injuries on his body at the moment.

Fang Tangtang had instantly guessed that Jiang Xiaobai’s bad mood definitely had something to do with Xiao Su when she called Fang Tangtang to go drinking with her today; something must have happened between them. However, Xiaobai wasn’t willing to talk about it. As a friend who was also like a sister to her, Fang Tangtang didn’t press Jiang Xiaobai about it. Now that she had seen how badly wounded Xiao Su was, Fang Tangtang didn’t know what to say. She simply thought that these two were complicated people. Did Xiaobai’s heart not hurt at the sight of her boyfriend being injured this badly? It seemed like Xiao Su had really made Xiaobai angry this time.

“Go home,” Xiao Su said to Jiang Xiaobai in a low voice.

Home?

Upon hearing that word, Jiang Xiaobai felt an absolute sense of mockery. Why didn’t he tell her to go home earlier when they were at the hospital?

“Hey pretty, who is this?”

The handsome man who had been hitting on Jiang Xiaobai earlier squinted and sized Xiao Su up when he saw him coming up and grabbing Jiang Xiaobai’s arm abruptly.

Jiang Xiaobai had initially wanted to tell the man to scram when she heard his voice, but now that Xiao Su was here, she didn’t want to do that anymore. She quirked her lips and extracted her arm from Xiao Su’s grip before giggling coyly.

“Don’t know him!”

Upon her words, the man immediately put himself in front of Jiang Xiaobai. “Hey, you’ve got to wait your turn; I asked this pretty lady here first. If you want to extend an invitation to her, get in line, okay?”

Xiao Su pressed his thin lips together in displeasure after he had been shaken off, his forehead creasing as well. He gave Jiang Xiaobai a dangerous look.

Jiang Xiaobai gripped the man’s tie. “Didn’t you say that you were going to take me up to the stage to dance?”

“Yes, yes. Do you want to come?”

“Of course, why wouldn’t I? I love dancing.”

And so, Jiang Xiaobai prepared to go with the man. When she passed by Xiao Su, he grabbed her arm again, his voice low and chilly. “Xiaobai, you…”

Before he could finish, Jiang Xiaobai shook his grip off again and said mockingly, “Mister, please have more respect for yourself; stop getting handsy with me. Careful now, or I’ll call the police. Oh, and you’re hurt pretty badly. You should hurry to the hospital and not waste your time here. It won’t be any good if you delay treatment and end up worsening your condition—you might even get yourself killed.”

Xiao Su frowned, the displeasure beginning to stew in his eyes. Even Fang Tangtang was rendered tongue-tied when she heard Jiang Xiaobai’s words. The corner of her mouth twitched; just how badly did Xiao Su offend Xiaobai to make her furious enough to say such things?

Soon, Jiang Xiaobai vanished from Xiao Su’s sight, having followed the man up to the platform.

Jiang Xiaobai was absolutely gorgeous; since she was supposed to attend a wedding today, she had dressed up carefully. Her typically smooth and straight waist-length locks had been deliberately permed into natural-looking waves; she had tied her hair up earlier, but she let it down when she got on stage. With her long hair settled on her shoulders, her face was dainty under the blinding and scorching stage lights. A mesmerizing gleam glinted in her eyes, her lips a seductive red.

The men on the floor yelled in support of Jiang Xiaobai when they saw this scene, some of them even whistling.

“Dance, dance!”

The shouts from the crowd below ascended and descended in waves.

The man held Jiang Xiaobai’s hand before lowering his head to press a light kiss on the back of it. “You’re sure to rock the crowd. Good luck.”

Jiang Xiaobai glanced at him and pulled her hand back. “Thanks.”

Upon seeing this from where he was below the stage, Xiao Su’s gaze grew even more frigid, his lips practically having flattened into a line. Fang Tangtang could sense the disgruntledness and harsh air he was exuding; it was as though he was about to kill someone.

Oh boy, this is kind of scary.

Fang Tangtang wasn’t sure what she was thinking as she gave a light cough and tried to defend Xiaobai. “Uh, please don’t be angry with Xiaobai; I don’t see her like this often. Did you get on her nerves?”

Upon hearing her words, Xiao Su’s murderous aura subsided a little. However, it was just a miniscule bit. He glanced at Fang Tangtang before saying in a low voice, “Yes, I’ve made her angry.”

Still, that didn’t mean that she had to go up and dance on stage, right? How many men were watching her from below? Did she not know just how beautiful she was? Was she just going to go up there and dance for others to see?

Jiang Xiaobai’s body began to dance along with the beat of the music automatically, her mind free of any thoughts. People who were good-looking were naturally able to look like a painting even if they stood still, never mind when they were dancing.

Jiang Xiaobai quickly drew everyone’s gazes to her when she stepped up to the stage. The previous dancer on-stage was not pleased when she saw how Jiang Xiaobai had garnered so many cheers when she arrived, so she began to bend and twist her flexible body, intending to show Jiang Xiaobai up.

When she noticed how most people had their eyes on Jiang Xiaobai, the dancer was disgruntled, and so she quirked her lips and decided to bring out the big guns. She deliberately crossed over to Jiang Xiaobai, dancing around her for a bit. At last, she slipped her cropped jacket off to reveal a black tank top underneath.

The men below immediately wolf-whistled when they saw this.

Jiang Xiaobai was a little stunned; after all, she had wanted to show off her own skills. She hadn’t expected this dancer to compete with her. Did that dancer have to do that?

“Strip! Strip!”

Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t help but roll her eyes at their screams. However, that dancer waltzed in front of her again, whispering to her so that she was the only one who could hear, “Do you not dare to take your clothes off?”

Jiang Xiaobai wasn’t sure what she was thinking; perhaps the dancer had touched a nerve. Jiang Xiaobai lifted the corners of her mouth, showing a dissatisfied smile at the dancer. Under the anticipating gazes of the audience, she reached up and began to undo the buttons of her jacket. Her movements were slow, having drawn everyone’s eyes to her as she unbuttoned her jacket. The dancer before her couldn’t resist from mentally berating her for being so shameless.

Indeed, this woman is quite shameless. Just how slow is she unbuttoning a single jacket. Does she want to draw all of the men’s eyes to her? The dancer had been short-sighted for taking her own jacket off so quickly. Now, she had given this woman an opportunity.

On the floor below, Xiao Su nearly exploded when he saw Jiang Xiaobai undoing the buttons of her jacket in front of so many people. Fang Tangtang couldn’t resist slipping away when she sensed his darkening aura.

All the men below were ogling Jiang Xiaobai. How Xiao Su wished he could stalk over and scoop their eyes out. What were they looking at? Was another man’s girl that much of a sight?

D*mn them all!

No one noticed how Xiao Su’s hands had already curled into fists, blood leaking between his fingers.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1443

Jiang Xiaobai felt as though something had crashed into her heart the instant she caught sight of Xiao Su; it hurt badly.

D*mn them all!

No one noticed how Xiao Su’s hands had already curled into fists, blood leaking between his fingers.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1444

Jiang Xiaobai felt that there was a high chance for her to dance with some random man for an hour.

Thinking about this, she felt uneasy and regretted telling this dancer her story. Although it was an act on impulse, she did not need to put herself in a difficult situation by dancing with an unknown man too.

Alas.

As Xiao Su could even give his life to that woman whom he had deeply loved before, Jiang Xiaobai was unsure whether she had a place in his heart or not. How would he be willing to spend a fortune for her?

It would be a huge sum of money if one were to pay for everyone in the bar.

Besides, wouldn’t he just become a fool by paying for everyone around? That’s really a lot of money. Jiang Xiaobai felt more distressed the more she thought about it.

It’s his hard-earned money. Although she had no idea why she was pitying his money now, she still snatched the microphone from the regular dancer after a while. Then, she cleared her throat and said smilingly, “There’s no need to pay for everyone—that’ll be too much to ask for.”

After the regular dancer heard her words, she leaned in close to her and said in a low voice, “You’re being too considerate toward your boyfriend. Why are you still pitying him when he has angered you? If you don’t spend his money now, he’ll spend it on another woman in the future.”

However, Jiang Xiaobai just replied smilingly, “Even though everything you’ve said is right, I really don’t want him to waste so much money. Why does he need to pay for all these strangers?”

Moreover, there were many lecherous men around them; she really had no wish to pay for their drinks.

“Then, what do you want to do? Later…”

Jiang Xiaobai took a deep breath and put on a smile again. “How about this? I’ve thought of a way. If everyone can…”

Before she could finish speaking, the bar counter made the announcement that someone had paid for everybody around!

The crowd was stirred up upon hearing the news; they were all wondering who the fool was.

Under the stage, most of the people actually thought that it was not worth footing the bill. Although the woman on stage was indeed beautiful and charming, they could only dance with her for an hour after paying for everyone; only a fool would pay for it.

Nonetheless, some of them also wished to pay. After all, it would’ve been great to dance with a beautiful woman for an hour.

Little did they know that someone would actually act so fast. Just as they were still looking for the place to pay, someone had already settled the bill.

F*ck. Who is it? Who acted so fast and seized our opportunity?!

At first, Jiang Xiaobai was going to ask for a simple request and reduce the dancing time. As dancing with another man for ten minutes was the longest time she could accept, she had initially planned to reduce the time to this after making a simple request.

It was out of her expectation that someone would actually have made the payment before she could say anything.

“Hey.” The regular dancer leaned closer to take the microphone from Jiang Xiaobai’s hands. She then said smilingly, “You’re too late because someone has already paid. Who’s this guy? It seems like he’s very determined based on how fast he acted.”

Jiang Xiaobai was rendered speechless and felt regretful too. At this moment, she only hoped that the man was not some obese, disgusting middle-aged man. If a young man showed up in the end, she might be able to endure for a longer time.

The speaker was moved to the bar counter and the bartender asked, “To the man who has paid for everyone, may we know your last name?”

A cold voice rang from the speaker. “Xiao.”

Although the man only spoke a word, Jiang Xiaobai felt her heart skip a beat.

It was a voice that she would probably never forget—that’s because it belonged to Xiao Su. Was he actually the one who paid? Jiang Xiaobai bit her bottom lip and had mixed feelings about it. This bastard! Why couldn’t he have waited for a while? How much money has he spent paying for everyone here?!

Upon seeing her exasperated expression, the regular dancer leaned in and asked, “What is it? You look furious. Is the man who paid the bill your boyfriend?”

Jiang Xiaobai gritted her teeth and did not reply to her.

The regular dancer said smilingly, “Did I make the correct guess? Anyway, the voice seems to belong to a young, cool man. So, it doesn’t really matter if he isn’t your boyfriend.”

No matter what the dancer was saying now, Jiang Xiaobai only had one thought—she wanted to beat the hell out of Xiao Su!

While she was deep in rage, Xiao Su was already walking toward her direction. When he walked up to the stage before everyone’s gazes, the regular dancer spoke again, “Wow, this man looks cool—especially with the scar on his face. That makes him look hostile. But, how did he get such a serious injury? I’m really impressed that he chose to come to a pub instead of a hospital after getting seriously injured.”

With that, Xiao Su had already walked to Jiang Xiaobai and cast his gaze down on her.

“Can you leave with me now?”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaobai snorted and folded her arms. “Why do I need to leave with you? Who do you think you are?”

How dare he show up before me after wasting so much money? Is he tired of living?

Jiang Xiaobai really wanted to slap Xiao Su, but she did not bear to do so upon seeing the wound on his face. It was so frustrating!

“I’m giving you two options now—walk by yourself and leave with me.”

Since he had only said one of the options, Jiang Xiaobai’s curiosity was piqued. “What’s the other option?”

“We’ll leave with you in my arms.”

“Tsk, how can you still think of carrying me when you’re already seriously injured? You—ah!”

Before she had even finished speaking, Xiao Su already took off his coat and lifted Jiang Xiaobai up. Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai merely felt her vision blur and her head fall. Then, she could only see Xiao Su walking down the stage in strides.

F*ck!

“Xiao Su! Put me down now, you b*stard. Can’t you hear me? Besides, didn’t you say that I would be in your arms? Am I even in your f*cking arms now? You’re just carrying me on your shoulders now. You’re just carrying me!”

As his way of carrying her had given her a head rush, she felt dizzy at once.

It was out of the regular dancer’s expectation that Xiao Su would just carry Jiang Xiaobai away; she thought that he was just here to invite Jiang Xiaobai for a dance. However, she knew that Xiao Su was really Jiang Xiaobai’s boyfriend after overhearing the couple’s conversation upon rushing toward them.

Wow, it seems like her boyfriend isn’t that bad after all; he really just paid the bill without hesitation. F*ck it—when can I experience a sweet relationship like this too?!

Hence, the crowd just witnessed the man who had paid the bill carry that beautiful woman away. Some of them even exclaimed after hearing their conversation, “Well, it’s actually just a couple in a fight. This fight has cost them a huge sum of money!”

“Tsk tsk. We can’t even afford to get into a fight without money these days.”

Meanwhile, Fang Tangtang just watched as Jiang Xiaobai was being brought away by Xiao Su in distress while holding her face with her hand. Feeling upset, she did not walk over to help Jiang Xiaobai. My best friend’s boyfriend has already spent a fortune for her, whereas nothing has even happened between me and the man of my dreams!

Comparisons are really odious!

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1445

Jiang Xiaobai was brought out of the pub on Xiao Su’s shoulders.

As it was warm in the pub, Jiang Xiaobai did not feel cold at all. However, she could not help but tremble after feeling the cool breeze outside.

Nevertheless, she was still boiling with anger; she proceeded to scold Xiao Su all the way back home.

“Put me down, Xiao Su. Did you hear me? Are you even walking with me in your arms? You’re just carrying me now. Besides, are you even qualified to touch me? Do you think that you can touch me after paying for everyone? You spent the money on someone else. Why do I need to bear the consequences for them?”

No one replied to her and the scenery before her continued to change.

Jiang Xiaobai was enraged, so she continued to scold him, “Why did you even pay the bill and be the fool? Do you really think that you’re rich? Does it even concern you that I want to dance with another man for an hour? Is there even a need for you to take action? Put me down. I want to walk by myself. Put me down now! You b*stard, are you even listening to me? Why have you come looking for me? You can just stay at the hospital—your beloved woman is still waiting for you there. Since you don’t listen to my words at all, why do I need to listen to yours? Put me down!”

It seemed like Xiao Su could no longer stand her nagging; he finally stopped and put Jiang Xiaobai gently onto the ground.

When Jiang Xiaobai felt her feet on the ground, she gave Xiao Su a fierce glare and turned around to walk away.

“If you dare to run away again, I’ll bring you home by carrying you on my shoulders once more.”

Upon hearing his words, Jiang Xiaobai stopped in her tracks. She turned her head to glare at Xiao Su. “Are you threatening me now?”

Xiao Su took a few steps forward until he was close to her. “It’s not a threat. However, it was a complex environment in the pub; you don’t know what sort of people you meet in places like that, and I was worried about leaving you alone there.”

“You can go there and make yourself drunk, but I can’t go there for a dance? How bossy you are!”

“That’s because I’m your boyfriend now. If you weren’t my girlfriend, do you think that I’ll be this bossy with you?”

“Xiao Su, please be clear of the situation now. Why do I need to listen to you when you didn’t even listen to me previously? Does being my boyfriend give you the authority to do so? If you wish to control me just because you’re my boyfriend, we can just break up.”

Jiang Xiaobai felt calm when she spoke the last sentence.

Although she was not a person who always talked about breaking up, she really had to wish to do so today.

Upon hearing her mentioning a breakup, Xiao Su was startled. He narrowed his eyes at her. “Can you repeat that?”

Jiang Xiaobai cast her eyes down. “Why do I need to repeat myself? You aren’t a deaf, so can’t you hear me clearly? Regarding what had happened earlier today, you would’ve never disregarded my opinion if you’d thought me as your girlfriend and considered yourself as my boyfriend! Do you know how worried I was when you rushed into the fire? Do you know how relieved was I when you were rescued? I even followed you to the hospital. However, you just rushed to that woman the moment when you regained consciousness. Does she not have anyone accompanying her? No. She has her husband and her family around. What can you do there? When I asked you to return to your ward, you ignored me. When I was leaving, you didn’t even try to make me stay. Haha…”

With that, Jiang Xiaobai did not know whether she was feeling mocked or finding the situation funny; she couldn’t help but laugh until she felt tears welling up in her eyes.

Then, she raised her head and looked at Xiao Su with a pair of red-rimmed eyes. “Can you tell whether there’s a girlfriend who’s as pathetic as me?”

Due to his serious injury and the inappropriateness of the situation, Jiang Xiaobai had been hiding those complaints in her heart, trying her best to be an understanding girlfriend.

After all, he was already injured, and it would be bad for her to talk sarcastically there.

However, she felt wronged too; she was only a human who had emotions and would feel upset as well. She realized that she could never be so generous and did not mind everything.

Hence, she blurted out everything in her heart at once.

Meanwhile, Xiao Su also knew that it was his fault this time; he had been really irresponsible toward his girlfriend.

When he saw her red-rimmed eyes, Xiao Su also felt upset. Hence, he took a few steps forward and pulled her into his arms, pressing the back of her head against him.

“You can hit me and scold me whenever you want. Your boyfriend is standing in front of you now, so you can do anything you like. However, please don’t mention a breakup.”

With a dry throat, his voice was shockingly deep and slightly husky. “We just started our relationship lately. So, give me some time. Please give me some time.”

Jiang Xiaobai held back her tears, but she suddenly stretched out her hand to pinch Xiao Su’s ear. As she was using greater force than usual, Xiao Su felt pain but did not flinch at it. Instead, he held the woman’s waist and lifted her up. “Let’s go home first. Can we talk when we’re at home?”

Although Jiang Xiaobai did not cry, she still looked pitiful with her red-rimmed eyes.

“We can go home, but don’t think that I’ve forgiven you. I won’t forget about today’s incident.”

“Mm.”

“Besides, I was being serious when I was talking about the breakup just now. You’re the one who does not want it, and you begged me to stay; I only said yes out of pity.”

“Sure. I don’t want a breakup, and I was the one who begged you to stay.”

“In order to express your sincerity, you can just take me home in your arms.”

From here to their home, it was a half-hour journey in the car. If they were walking, then it would be…

Xiao Su thought about it for a while but did not say anything in the end. After saying yes in a deep voice, he started walking forward with Jiang Xiaobai in his arms.

Fortunately, Xiao Su was tall and Jiang Xiaobai was slim, so it did not cause him a great effort to walk while carrying her. It was actually out of Jiang Xiaobai’s expectation that he would just carry her willingly because she thought that he would say no. If he had turned down her request at that time, she would have just walked away without waiting for him.

They did not know how long they walked, and Jiang Xiaobai even felt that the man was beginning to breathe heavily.

No matter how slim she was, she was still an adult. Although it was fine to carry her for a while, Xiao Su would eventually feel tired since he was not a robot too. Moreover, he had injuries on him now.

Thinking about this, Jiang Xiaobai finally noticed that there was an obvious smell of blood around her.

At once, Jiang Xiaobai sensed something wrong and spoke voluntarily to Xiao Su, “Put me down first.”

However, Xiao Su only pursed his lips and did not reply to her.

“Xiao Su, did you hear me? Put me down first.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Su lowered his head to look at her helplessly. He sounded moody when he said, “What is it? Didn’t you allow me to carry you home? Will you still forgive me if I put you down now?”

“I’ll forgive you if you listen to me. Just put me down!”

She could really smell blood while looking at Xiao Su’s wounds now. Since he had serious injuries in the first place, his wounds must have reopened after carrying her and walking for a long time!

However, Xiao Su remained silent and did not put her down as well.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1446

“Xiao Su, did you hear me? Put me down this instant. You still have wounds on you, and they’ve reopened. You’re bleeding now.”

When Jiang Xiaobai was still angry with him, she thought that she would not flinch even if Xiao Su had fainted on the streets. Not only would she not feel heartbroken, but she would also just ignore him.

Now that she had seen the blood stains on his shirt, Xiaobai realized that she would still feel heartbroken in the end.

However, Xiao Su did not listen to her words and stubbornly walked with her in his arms. When Jiang Xiaobai struggled to get out of his arms, Xiao Su just held her tighter and made his wounds reopen faster.

This made Jiang Xiaobai anxious at once and she bit her bottom lip. “Are you putting me down or not?”

Xiao Su probably had heard the anger in her voice as he became concerned and stopped in his tracks. After taking a glance at Jiang Xiaobai, he said, “Since I’ve angered you, I deserve to suffer this too. You don’t need to pity me.”

Upon hearing his words, Jiang Xiaobai gave him a glare and then said arrogantly, “Who’s pitying you? You’re thinking too much about it. Since you weren’t injured because of me, it’ll be odd if I really pity you.”

After she had finished speaking, Jiang Xiaobai tried convincing him further by patting his arms with force. “Put me down quickly. Do you think that the blood on you smells great? Even if you can accept it, I feel uncomfortable in your arms!”

Ah, she seems to be loathing the smell of blood on me.

Xiao Su finally understood Jiang Xiaobai’s words. Although he had been unwilling to put her down no matter what Jiang Xiaobai had said, he immediately put her down after hearing her say that she loathed him.

After Jiang Xiaobai felt her feet on the ground, she cast a helpless glance at Xiao Su. What a dumb man he is—he really believes whatever people tell him. I think his IQ is below average! Jiang Xiaobai thought to herself.

However, it was fortunate that he was not really smart. Otherwise, Jiang Xiaobai would not have been able to convince him so easily.

“Let’s just hail a cab. We can go to the hospital and clean your wounds again before we head home.”

Although Xiao Su wanted to say no, Jiang Xiaobai had already walked to the roadside and tried hailing a cab. In the meantime, she also said disgustedly, “If your injuries still bleed at night, you should just stay at the hospital. Don’t you even think of coming into the room to sleep with me.”

Her words gave Xiao Su no reason to say no.

Later on, Jiang Xiaobai accompanied Xiao Su to the hospital to clean his wounds. After the doctor had finished dressing his wounds, he advised, “For now, don’t let your wounds come into contact with water lest they get infected. Please come in tomorrow to change the dressing.”

Xiao Su probably thought that it was too troublesome; he then asked the doctor if he could take some medicine home and change the dressing by himself. Just when he had finished asking his question, Jiang Xiaobai patted his head as she walked over and said, “Doctor, we’ll come on time tomorrow to change the dressing.”

Then, she dragged Xiao Su along with her and nagged him on their way out, “Do you even know how to change your wound’s dressing? It’s definitely better for you to change it at the hospital. Look at your wounds—they’re already so serious, so please just behave.”

When they reached home, Jiang Xiaobai noticed that the lights had been turned on when she opened the door. Hence, she asked with mixed feelings while changing her shoes, “Did you come home earlier?”

“Mm-hmm.”

Xiao Su entered the house behind her and closed the door on his way in. Then, he bent down to take his slippers. “I came back and found out that you weren’t home. So, I went out to look for you.”

Hmph, at least he still has a conscience.

“Then, how did you know that I was at that pub?” Jiang Xiaobai turned her head and fixed her gaze on Xiao Su.

“My instincts told me that you were there.”

Since Jiang Xiaobai had met Xiao Su at the place a few times, Xiao Su felt that she would probably be there at the time. Hence, he simply went there to try his luck. Little did he know that he would actually find her there.

Screw your instincts! Why would I go to the pub we’d met in before if I didn’t worry that you wouldn’t be able to find me? Jiang Xiaobai complained in her heart while turning around to walk inside.

When she was inside the house, Jiang Xiaobai noticed that there were a few bags of food and an exquisite gift bag on the table. Startled, she turned around to look at Xiao Su.

“Did you buy them?”

“Mm-hmm.”

He had bought them all to ask for Jiang Xiaobai’s forgiveness, but he was unsure whether she would like them or not.

To be honest, girls would be pleased upon receiving presents, and it did not really matter to them whether these presents fit their preferences or not. Just like dragons who loved to collect sparkly things since birth, girls resembled them because they both liked presents from the bottom of their hearts.

Of course, there would be exceptions. Fortunately, Jiang Xiaobai was not one of them because she loved receiving and opening presents.

Moreover, the present was bought by Xiao Su as a token of apology to her. Without hesitation, she walked forward and picked up the present before shaking it in front of Xiao Su on purpose. “You bought this? Did you buy this for me, or are you actually keeping it for your beloved woman in the hospital?”

The last part of her question put Xiao Su in an awkward situation. Although he bought this gift for Jiang Xiaobai and it was also his fault for what had happened in the morning, he believed that he would still rush into the fire in an instant if everything happened again.

“Why aren’t you speaking? Is this for me? If it’s not, then I won’t open it.”

Upon speaking, Jiang Xiaobai put the box onto the table and squinted at Xiao Su with her hands folded. She looked as though she would not give up until Xiao Su gave her an explanation.

After Xiao Su looked at her for a while, he suddenly walked forward and said hoarsely, “Why do you keep asking about this? It’s obviously for you. Can’t you even see it?”

“It doesn’t matter whether I can see it or not. It gives me a different feeling when you say it out loud.” Jiang Xiaobai curled her lips into a smile and arched her brow. Then, she took the box out and opened it. Inside the box, she could see a fine pearl necklace. As every pearl in the necklace was small and had a bright luster, it looked expensive despite not being actual gems. The moment Jiang Xiaobai saw it, she loved it and could not stop playing with the necklace.

Xiao Su suddenly said, “Can I help you put it on?”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaobai squinted at him but still gave him the necklace after thinking for a while. “Sure. Just help me put it on.”

Xiao Su took the necklace and walked to her back. Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaobai brought her waist-length hair up. As her action filled Xiao Su’s nose with her unique, floral fragrance, Xiao Su stood there dumbfoundedly and stared at her fair neck which was now exposed.

“What are you doing? Don’t you want to help me put it on? Why are you just standing there and doing nothing?”

Xiao Su came to his senses and put the necklace on Jiang Xiaobai. Since Jiang Xiaobai had fair skin, the pearls suited her skin color perfectly; the grey strapless dress that she was wearing today even set off the necklace better.

After Jiang Xiaobai cast her eyes down to take a look, she snorted.

“Please don’t think that you’re forgiven after giving me a necklace. Who let you buy pearls for me? They don’t look nice at all!”

As Xiao Su saw her looking at the necklace for a long time, he thought that she had really liked it; little did he know that she would make such comments in the end. Hence, he believed her and asked, “Should I help you take it off instead?”

“How dare you!” Jiang Xiaobai yelled, “You’re so insensitive!”

How can he really believe everything I say? I’m really curious to know what kind of good deeds Xiao Su did in his previous life that made him find a wonderful girlfriend like me!

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1447

The couple made their peace with each other that night.

Xiao Su felt pain everywhere when he lay down on bed. At first, he thought that images of Yan would pop into his head, but his mind was full of Jiang Xiaobai in the end. Not only did he remember Jiang Xiaobai’s angry, sullen expression, but he also remembered the tear on her eyelashes when she cast her eyes down as well as her voice.

In addition, he also remembered her charming performance on stage.

She’s really beautiful.

Thinking about this, Xiao Su smiled without realizing it.

“Why do you have such a silly smile on your face?”

Jiang Xiaobai’s sudden question startled Xiao Su and made his smile disappear. When he opened his eyes, he met Jiang Xiaobai’s gaze.

“Why aren’t you asleep yet?”

With her lips pursed, Jiang Xiaobai leaned in closer to him and looked at him in distress.

“I can’t fall asleep because I feel heartbroken.”

Upon hearing her say that she was heartbroken, Xiao Su felt guilty as he thought that she was referring to that morning’s incident. Hence, he held back the pain of his wounds and turned around to face Jiang Xiaobai.

“Are you still angry with what happened in the morning?” Xiao Su held her hands while speaking. Then, he continued in a low voice, “Please simmer down. You know that I’m not good at coaxing people. If you get angry again, I really have no idea what to do.”

“Who’s angry with this morning’s incident?”

She’s not angry about that? Xiao Su was a bit shocked. Then, what’s she angry about?

“When we were in the pub, why did you help so many people pay their bills? Tonight, you bought food, a necklace, and even paid for everyone in the pub. How much did you spend in one night?”

When Jiang Xiaobai talked about this matter, her expression could be described with one word: heartbroken.

Indeed, she felt heartbroken about the money. From what she knew, Xiao Su’s job was not easy, but he was not getting a high pay as well. How long would he need to earn all of that money back?

The more Jiang Xiaobai thought about this, the angrier she became. Hence, she scolded, “Why did you act so fast? Couldn’t you have waited for a while? I was going to change the request at that time.”

Xiao Su was quite surprised because she was actually heartbroken about the money. It was also out of his expectations that this incident would manage to gain her attention. Upon seeing her heartbroken expression, Xiao Su’s eyes darkened as he said with a chuckle, “If I waited any longer, I was afraid that there would be people paying before me.”

“How can that be possible? The prices on the menu there aren’t cheap, so who would be willing to be this fool?’

“Oh, trust me—there are.”

Xiao Su said indifferently, “When I went to pay the bills tonight, a few guys came after me and became exasperated upon seeing me paying.”

As he talked about this, he paused for a moment and then said seriously and sternly, “You would have needed to dance with another guy if I had been late.”

Not knowing why, Jiang Xiaobai could actually feel the jealousy in his words. Is it my own illusion? In order to prove her guess, Jiang Xiaobai blinked and asked, “What’s so bad about dancing with other men? Since you can abandon your girlfriend to save others, doesn’t this mean that your girlfriend can dance with other men too? Am I right?”

Although Xiao Su was unable to refute her, just the thought of letting her dance with other men already made him feel uncomfortable. Hence, he asked gloomily, “Are you feeling regret now?”

“What?”

“You’re feeling regretful because I’d paid for everyone at the pub. You thought that I’d acted too fast; if someone else had paid the bill, you probably would have been dancing with some other man.”

“Yeah.” Jiang Xiaobai nodded. “Tonight, I noticed that there were many handsome guys from the stage. They looked so young and attractive, and they must be strong too. If I had danced with them, I probably would have had a…”

Before she could finish speaking, Xiao Su suddenly leaned in closer to her; she could feel his hot breath on her face. Since she only spoke these to anger him, little did she know that Xiao Su would suddenly lean in and minimize the distance between them.

Being a paper tiger, Jiang Xiaobai became timid upon seeing him lean in. “W-Why are you suddenly so near me?”

“Do you really wish to dance with other men?” Xiao Su asked with his gaze fixed on her.

“There’s a first time for everything, isn’t it? Is there a problem?”

“No, you can’t.” Xiao Su’s expression hardened and he said sternly, “You didn’t know any of the men there. So, how could you possibly tell if they were good guys or not? An hour is a long time. If he really wanted to do something to you during the dance, would you have been able to escape from it?”

“Well, you also know that the pub is a public space. How can he do anything to me in a crowded place? I think you’re overthinking the situation. Anyway, tell me how much did you spend tonight—how much did you pay at the pub?”

Xiao Su did not say anything. Instead, he only stared at her.

“You really overestimate a man’s self-control,” Xiao Su said and leaned in closer than before. At this moment, the couple’s noses and foreheads almost touched, and they could feel each other’s breath too.

Jiang Xiaobai was frightened, and she felt her face flush. However, something quickly popped into her mind and she reached out her hands to block Xiao Su’s body. “Let me ask you something. What do you want to do when you don’t answer my question but lean in? Do you want to kiss me now? Let me remind you of something. I haven’t forgiven you yet. Don’t you ever think off… Mm!”

As both of them were leaning very close to each other in the first place, Jiang Xiaobai’s non-stop talking right in front of Xiao Su was basically an invitation for him to lock her lips.

Hence, Xiao Su just kissed her without hesitation.

The moment his lips covered hers, Xiao Su let out a satisfied sigh in his heart. In the meantime, he also planned to let her learn about a man’s determination.

Although Jiang Xiaobai stretched out her hands in an attempt to stop him from kissing her, she did not expect that he would still have so much strength despite being injured. As he just covered his lips on hers while she was still talking, he became bolder in the kiss as he had caught her off guard.

“Mm—let go of me!” Jiang Xiaobai pushed him forcefully. Weren’t we just talking moments ago? Why did he suddenly kiss me?

However, her hard push made Xiao Su grunt in pain. He then pulled back slightly and said hoarsely, “Don’t push me so hard; I’m in pain.”

“If you’re in pain, why did you still kiss me? Why don’t you just lie properly on the bed and sleep?!”

Jiang Xiaobai was exasperated and was going to say something else. However, Xiao Su seemed to be addicted to the kiss as he covered his lips in hers again. This made her stretch out her hands to push him again.

Nonetheless, when she touched his wounds this time, Jiang Xiaobai did not bear to push him anymore. Being scared that he might feel pain, she stopped pushing him away after a while.

B*stard. Jiang Xiaobai scolded him in her heart, but she soon lost herself in the kiss. Xiao Su turned over and pressed her against the bed, pulled back from the kiss, and prepared to unbutton his clothes. However, he then heard the already dazed Jiang Xiaobai ask, “Tell me now—how much did you exactly spend tonight?”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Su paused his actions and glanced at Jiang Xiaobai helplessly.

Am I not trying hard enough? How can she still think about money when we’re already at this stage?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1448

“Xiao Su.” Jiang Xiaobai did not get any response after voicing out her question. She then reached out her hand to grab Xiao Su’s wrist in a discontented manner. In a gentle voice, she asked, “Please tell me now—I’ve already asked you so many times. How much did you spend?”

“Do you really want to know about it so badly?” Xiao Su squinted his eyes to look at the woman in front of him, who seemed dumbfounded. Leaning into her, he placed his lips by her ears as his warm breath circled her. Xiao Su then slowly told her a figure.

Jiang Xiaobai’s gaze was still dazzled at first, but she instantly came back to her senses when she heard the figure. She then stared straight at Xiao Su. “Y-You spent this much?” Just the thought of that amount made Jiang Xiaobai feel like her heart was bleeding. “Why did you spend so much? You’re a spendthrift for wasting such an amount of money in a blink of an eye. How long will it take you to earn them back? It wasn’t even necessary for you to spend this much…” The more Jiang Xiaobai talked about the matter, the more miserable she felt. It was as though her heart was bleeding.

The good atmosphere between the two of them had been ruined by Jiang Xiaobai. Xiao Su did not want to kiss her anymore after hearing Jiang Xiaobai call him a spendthrift. He simply turned away in bed and lay beside her. “I shouldn’t have spent the money so that I can watch you dance with another man?” He could not accept it.

What he said seemed to make sense; she didn’t want to dance with another man at all. Moreover, she did not expect the female dancer to have gone so far. She would not have told her in the first place if she knew that this would happen. Xiao Su was her boyfriend, and he had just lost a great amount of money for no reason.

Jiang Xiaobai turned around when something suddenly came to her mind. She then looked at Xiao Su with her gloomy eyes. “Anyway, are you still able to afford the wedding after spending this much money?”

Xiao Su paused for a while before looking intently at Jiang Xiaobai. She was actually worried about this? He put on a faint smile as he turned over to face her. “I’ve been single for so many years; how would it be possible for me to not have any savings? Moreover, I receive good pay from work. It’s more than enough for me to marry you.”

Facing his mocking gaze, Jiang Xiaobai flushed red as she quickly responded, “What are you talking about? I’m just worried that you might not be able to get married someday. I didn’t say I’ll marry you. Even if you want me to, I won’t necessarily agree to it!” Xiao Su was already thinking about marrying her after being her boyfriend for only a few days!

Xiao Su did not utter a word. Instead, he looked at her with a faint smile on his face. The way he looked at Jiang Xiaobai was as if he had seen through her thoughts, and she was feeling rather flustered because of it. “What are you looking at? I’m just telling the truth. Do you really think that I want to marry you?”

“Yes, that’s the truth. Are you tired? You should have an early night if you are.” With that, Xiao Su reached out his hands to help her put on her clothes properly. Then, he did not do anything else. At this moment, Jiang Xiaobai finally realized that she had spoiled the good atmosphere they were having moments ago.

She was indeed regretful. Facing a young man, she had actually let the opportunity slip. Nonetheless, she decided to forget about it. For the sake of his injuries, she stopped teasing him too. Jiang Xiaobai blinked before lying on his chest and shutting her eyes. Her breaths became paced almost instantly. After making sure that she was sound asleep, Xiao Su dozed off with a peace of mind.

“I’ve checked. On the day the fire broke out, Yan was the only one at the scene. However, the fire was raging, and it was impossible that no one else had noticed it. Other than that, someone has locked the door on purpose. As for now, there are two suspects who could have possibly done it. One of them is the makeup artist who showed up that day, while the other suspect is the makeup artist’s assistant. The assistant’s testimony was that she had followed the makeup artist’s order to leave the room and get some food for the bride. On her way to grab the food, the lift was not working—that was why she hadn’t been back on time.”

“Did you check the CCTV footage?”

“Yes. The footage matches her testimony.”

“What about the makeup artist?”

“According to the makeup artist, the bride and the bridegroom had to apply facial masks before getting their makeup done; these masks had to be applied for almost 30 minutes. Within the 30 minutes, she went downstairs to make a phone call. When she returned, she realized that the door had been locked from the inside, and no one was responding to her calls—that was when she felt something had gone wrong, so she quickly went to the hotel lobby to look for the hotel manager. We’ve verified her statements along with the CCTV footage and there are no differences.”

With that being said, the both of them seemed innocent. Han Qing squinted his eyes after hearing these remarks. After a few moments, he asked, “Who was the last person to leave the room?”

“It was the makeup artist. Her assistant did not return after she went out of the room. Hence, she can be eliminated as a suspect.” If the makeup artist had tweaked the door lock, the door would have been locked when she went out of the room.

“Look into the last person who left the room.”

“Alright, Mr. Han.”

Someone quietly took a peek into the ward before asking, “Is Mrs. Han not awake yet? We have our suspicions that she had been drugged. Is that why she lost her consciousness?”

“She hasn’t woken up yet. Investigate the makeup artist first. Other than that, start from the assistant as well. The moment there are any differences between their testimonies, we can start from there.”

“Alright, Mr. Han. We shall take our leave first.”

Han Qing hummed before he turned around and returned to the ward. He pushed open the door and came face-to-face with Luo Huimei. Han Qing then paused for a while before he said, “Dad, Mom, why don’t the both of you go home and take a rest? I’ll take over from here.”

Luo Huimei seemed haggard when she looked at Han Qing. She wanted to say something, but did not utter a word in the end after pondering for a while. She only nodded. “Alright. Your father and I will head home to take some rest. We’ll change shifts with you once we’ve gotten some rest. Yan hasn’t woken up yet; call us and let us know once she has woken up.”

“Alright.”

Yan felt drowsy when she had woken up. She could see the fire flaring up in her surroundings while the strong sense of smoke made it hard for her to breathe. All of a sudden, someone had dashed out from the flames to pick her up. “Han Qing!” Yan was shocked as she instantly shouted his name. Her body then sat up straight like a carp.

The sky had begun to brighten up. Han Qing, who had been staying by her side the entire time, finally saw her awake. He immediately dashed toward her. “Yan?”

Yan grabbed his hand and looked at him dazedly; it was as though she was making sure he was real. Han Qing knew what she was thinking as soon as he took a glance at her. He then tightly held her hand in return. “Don’t worry, it’s really me. I’m fine, and you’re fine as well. It’s all in the past now.”

Yan must have been traumatized from the fire that had broken out. She held tightly onto Han Qing’s hands from the moment she woke up. She wanted to say something, but she did not utter a word in the end as her lips shivered.

“You don’t have to say anything.” Han Qing held her in his arms while he touched her back with his huge palm. “Everything is in the past now, and we’re both in the hospital right now.”

Han Qing could feel a sense of warmth on his chest before he finished his sentence. After pulling Yan away, he noticed that she was shedding tears. At that moment, it was as if a knife had stabbed his heart. He reached out his hand to wipe off the tears from the edges of Yan’s eyes. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m with you, I won’t let anything bad happen to you again.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1449

Under Han Qing’s gentle persuasion, Yan slowly came to her senses. However, she was still very tired. Hence, she fell asleep soundly soon after leaning in Han Qing’s arms.

Han Qing stayed by her side and kept her company right after she fell asleep. When Han Qing thought of calling her parents to tell them that she was fine, Yan was startled from her sleep and woke up immediately when Han Qing tried to put her back in bed. She then grabbed his hand tightly.

“Fire! Blazing fire over here. Stay away, get out of here quickly! N-No!”

She didn’t open her eyes; she just groaned in fear while holding onto Han Qing’s hand. Evidently, she was having a nightmare.

Apart from comforting Yan, Han Qing had to wipe the cold sweat off her forehead and neck as well. However, Yan’s condition didn’t get better at all. She was still in a half-conscious state; she kept warning Han Qing to run while grabbing his hand, unable to stop mumbling about the fire in her nightmare.

It seemed like she was really frightened out of her wits.

In the midst of it, the doctor had come to check in on her once. According to him, her behavior was a result of the catatonic shock she suffered during the fire. The doctor wanted to give Yan a sedative, but because she was pregnant, he decided against the idea in the end. The doctor had no choice but to ask Han Qing to spend more time taking care of her, talking to her and calming her down.

Her condition continued until Luo Huimei and Mr. Zhou came to visit her. By the time they arrived, Yan still couldn’t sleep very well.

Luo Huimei was very worried about her daughter. “Will anything happen to her if this continues? Yan is still pregnant.”

Of course, she didn’t say everything so explicitly. However, everyone in the room knew what she meant after hearing her words. Han Qing, who had been staying by Yan’s bedside, remained silent for a while after hearing that. He then raised his head again and said, “I’ll take Yan home.”

Luo Huimei was a little surprised when she heard him. “Do you want to take her home now?”

She couldn’t wrap her mind around Han Qing’s decision. After all, Yan had just got admitted into the hospital. How could she go home now?

“Yes.” Han Qing rose and looked at Luo Huimei as he explained seriously, “It might not be a good thing for her to stay in the hospital with her condition like that. I’ll take her home, get a private doctor to take care of her and give her a whole new environment. Don’t worry, mom and dad. I’ll always stay by her side and will never leave her.”

Luo Huimei had wanted to say something else, but after thinking about it carefully, she agreed. After all, Han Qing was a highly educated gentleman. Besides, he was a thoughtful and mature adult who couldn’t possibly do something he wasn’t sure of.

“Alright then, get ready to take Yan home with you.”

Initially, the doctor didn’t quite agree when he heard that they wanted to get her discharged. However, after listening to Han Qing’s explanation, he permitted the discharge. Therefore, Han Qing took Yan home in the afternoon that day.

By the time Han Muzi came to visit Yan while carrying all the stuff with her, she received news that the patient had been discharged from the hospital.

“Discharged? Already?”

Puzzled, Han Muzi had no choice but to call her brother for confirmation. She left after finding out about everything clearly.

At the same time, Han Qing had sent his men to investigate the accident; Ye Moxuan did the same thing too. Little Bean also hid in his room and took note of the incident in his notebook.

Not long after that, the man Han Qing had sent to investigate the incident received an email from a stranger; it was CCTV footage. Upon clicking the video, the man saw the makeup artist conversing with a stranger. He could see their faces clearly, but he couldn’t hear what they were talking about.

Following that, the man received another email from a stranger. This time, it was the makeup artist’s information and an introduction of her family members. The information on the screen showed that there had been a large sum of money deposited into the account of the makeup artist’s relative two days ago.

Hence, Han Qing’s man reported the case to the police immediately. When the police officers were on their way to find the makeup artist, they realized she was about to escape quietly with the money. After resisting the officers’ arrest for a while, she was arrested and brought back to the police station.

“It seems you’re quite a coward without much common sense, huh? How dare you escape with a large sum of money after doing something like that? Are you afraid that people won’t know you’ve committed a crime?”

The makeup artist was a woman nearing her forties; she was a very honest woman who always abided by the law in her work. It was precisely because she had always been so honest that she couldn’t help but become greedy when she saw such a huge amount of money and decided to commit the crime.

After all, that person told her that all she needed to do was to put something in Yan’s mask and nothing else.

She thought the police wouldn’t find out about her involvement even if the matter was exposed. However, she became scared the more she thought about it after the incident. Since she had never done such a thing before in her life, she thought of running away with the money and hiding somewhere else out of town for a period of time.

However, how was it possible that no one would ever find out about this information in today’s society? Hence, once she started escaping, she became guilty of the crime.

Thinking of her own child, the makeup artist couldn’t help but cry loudly. “Please, I beg you all—I really didn’t harm Ms. Zhou. This has nothing to do with me at all! Don’t arrest me!”

The police officer looked at her coldly. “It has nothing to do with you? In that case, why was a large sum of money deposited into your relative’s account out of nowhere?”

“That isn’t mine—they belong to my relative. How am I supposed to know why there is so much money in his account? Officer, I really don’t know anything about this! If you don’t believe me, you can just check out the hotel CCTV footage. I really didn’t do anything that day! It’s true. The fire had nothing to do with me!”

“You can’t commit a crime and expect that you can cover everything up without leaving any traces behind. Indeed, it does look like you did not do anything at all from the CCTV footage. However, you added something in the mask you applied on the bride.”

The makeup artist was startled when she heard this. After that, she denied immediately.

“That’s impossible. How can I possibly add something in the cream mask?”

“If you really didn’t do it, you should have asked what was in the mask instead of denying it so quickly. You look incredibly nervous—do you still want to say you didn’t do anything at all?”

As though someone had discovered her secret, the makeup artist kept shaking her head. “I didn’t do it, I really didn’t do it. You guys got the wrong person. Apart from applying her mask that day, I don’t know anything else anymore. Besides, when I noticed something was off, I went to look for the manager. If I wanted to harm her, why would I go and look for the manager?”

“That’s because you were faking an alibi just to prove your innocence. You thought you destroyed all the cream masks, didn’t you? However, you’ll probably be disappointed—bring the girl in here.”

Soon, the makeup artist’s assistant was taken to the front of the makeup artist.

The makeup artist’s assistant looked aggrieved, for she didn’t know what was happening at all. When she saw the makeup artist, she said immediately, “Miss Xia, what exactly is going on? How did we get involved in this case? That day, I thought I listened to you and went downstairs to get some food. After that, the elevator broke down, and I couldn’t go upstairs in time. Later on, how…”

The makeup artist didn’t reply.

“Do you still have the cream mask you applied on the bride that day?”

At first, the makeup artist’s assistant was slightly hesitant. However, she nodded later on. “Yes, I still have it. When I helped Miss Xia to pack up her stuff, I got some and put it in a small bottle. The mask is prepared by Miss Xia herself, and she usually applies the mask on the brides’ faces before doing their makeup for moisturizing purposes. It’s just a normal moisturizing cream mask, but I noticed that it’s pretty effective every time she applies it on the brides, so I keep some for myself every time.

The makeup artist bulged her eyes in disbelief when she heard that. “You little b*tch, you actually stole my mask!”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1450

The makeup artist was very angry; she charged forward at her young assistant and wanted to hit her. The young assistant was so scared that she kept dodging while moving backward.

“Did you bring the cream mask?”

The young assistant nodded timidly. “Yes.”

She took it out from her bag. “Officer, I’ve brought all the stuff. However, may I ask what’s going on over here? Even though I was being greedy and stole these, it’s just some cream mask. I won’t get arrested because of such a petty thing, right?”

The police officer took the cream mask from the young assistant before giving her a look. “We won’t arrest you. You have no business here anymore—go and wait outside first.”

“Oh.” The young assistant glanced at the makeup artist helplessly before she went out while lowering her head fearfully.

In fact, the matter was very simple. The two persons who had gone into the room that day were the suspects. Since a huge amount of money had been deposited into the makeup artist’s account from unknown origins, she became the main suspect of the investigation.

The makeup artist had already been feeling guilty in the first place; otherwise, she wouldn’t have run away. After all, it was her first time doing something like that, and she was scared for her life. When the young assistant brought the cream mask over, she became so frightened that her lips started to tremble.

W-Why is this happening? I thought all I needed to do was to change the cream mask and just pretend like nothing had ever happened—I would’ve been able to get away with it. Why is this different from what I’ve expected?

The police officer seemed to have noticed her fear, so he passed the cream mask container to his man and said, “Run a test on this.”

Then, he looked at the criminal makeup artist and said, “There’s no way you can escape from the punishment of law if you’ve done something wrong. Once you’re involved in criminal activity, everyone will know what you have done sooner or later; you can’t keep it a secret forever.”

The makeup artist’s eyes became reddened with tears. She confessed instantly, “I’m sorry, officer. I was confused and made a mistake; it was that person who gave me the mask. He said I’ll get a large amount of money if I switched to this brand of mask. Back then, I didn’t think he was going to harm anyone either, so I agreed to it.”

“Do you think I’m a three-year-old boy? Why would he give you so much money if he did not plan on harming anyone? You’re already a mother, it’s impossible that you don’t have such a basic common sense. You clearly knew that he was going to harm someone, but you got greedy.”

The makeup artist fell into the chair, losing all of her energy.

In the end, the makeup artist ratted out the man who made a deal with her. When officers at the police station found out the person was actually He Lianjing from the He Group, they were very shocked.

Why would the young master of He Group want to kill Han Qing’s new bride? Later on, as the police officers continued with their investigation, they discovered that most of He Group’s main businesses were located overseas. Although the Han Group had developed their business overseas too, the two families operated their respective businesses separately without interfering much with each other’s businesses; after all, both families were involved in completely different industries.

Therefore, the officers were very puzzled by that. They had no choice but to go and look for the person responsible for the crime.

When the police officers found He Lianjing, he didn’t try to hide or escape at all; it was as if he knew the police would find him. Perhaps, he even did it on purpose. With his influence and power, even though he couldn’t leave without a trace at all, He Lianjing could’ve at least created many fake clues to confuse the police and stall their investigation.

However, he didn’t do so; the case was solved easily. When the police officers questioned He Lianjing, he confessed to his crime straight away.

“Why? President Han and Ms. Zhou do not have any grudges against you. Why did you want to burn her alive?”

He Lianjing sneered at the police officer when he heard that. He smirked as he said, “I don’t need any reason to do anything—I’ll burn her alive if I want to. What are you going to do about that?”

The police officers looked grim.

“Mr. He, are you saying that you were the one who did this?”

“Uh-huh, I was the one who did it.”

After that, He Lianjing was taken away while several police officers discussed it among themselves.

“What’s going on? He doesn’t seem to be afraid at all. Did he know that he was going to get caught when he committed the crime?”

“Hmph! Young people can be so obnoxious and arrogant sometimes. He needs to bear the consequences once he commits a crime. He’ll be sorry after he is punished later!”

Since it was the young master of the He Group who had been imprisoned, the incident was soon reported in the newspapers. When it appeared on the news, the already worried Xu Yanwan became more concerned when she saw that He Lianjing had gone to prison.

Before this, she thought that whatever He Lianjing did was all his own business; it served him right even if he died.

However, he’s being imprisoned because of me. Xu Yanwan became overwhelmed with guilt whenever she thought of this.

On second thought, Xu Yanwan felt that it served him right. She had stopped him once before, but he did it again. Is he bored of being a carefree young master and wants to find some excitement or anything of that sort?

No matter how she kept comforting herself, Xu Yanwan still went to visit He Lianjing in the end.

After not seeing him for several days, He Lianjing had already changed into his prison uniform; he became a lot thinner now. When he saw Xu Yanwan, his eyes flickered with excitement.

“I thought you wouldn’t want to see me again for the rest of your life.”

Looking at the current He Lianjing, Xu Yanwan bit her lower lip and asked in a low voice, “Why? Why did you do it exactly? I remembered I stopped you before, but why did you do it again? Don’t you know this is a society governed by law now? You have to go to prison if you committed a crime. Are you happy now?”

He Lianjing gazed at her quietly. After a pause, he sighed and said, “Yeah, you’re right. You stopped me once before. But, you were still very unhappy, so…”

“So, you set the place on fire and try to burn her alive? Do you think I’ll be happy after you kill her in a fire? He Lianjing, what kind of education did you receive when you were younger to have your moral conscience so twisted like that? You want to destroy everything when you can’t have things your way? Just like all your ex-girlfriends, you’ll kick them away once you grow tired of them. For those who keep pestering you, you treat them in a cruel manner. Now, you treat others like how you treat your ex-girlfriends too! Do you think I’ll be grateful to you because you did this? No, I won’t! It will only make me hate you! All the pointless stuff you did will just burden me!”

Perhaps it was his first time seeing Xu Yanwan getting so worked up, or maybe it was the first time he had heard her talking so much to him, so he just looked at her quietly.

After a long pause, he lowered his eyes and said, “Is that so? Have you started to hate me now? I’m sorry. Watching you being alone all by yourself, I thought I’d just do something for you. However, you’re always unhappy whenever I get closer to you, so I could only do this.”

“You just want to do something for me? There are so many ways you can help me, but why did you have to choose such a radical way? The bottom line is that you’re just a radical man with a cruel personality. A person like you is just so terrifying.”

Suddenly, He Lianjing looked at her and smiled. “What are you afraid of? I’m not going to hurt you anyway; you are the only woman whom I, He Lianjing, will ever love in my life.”

“That’s enough.”

Xu Yanwan stood up. She couldn’t bring herself to continue the conversation with him anymore. “I came to talk to you about moral conscience, and you’re discussing love with me. For someone like you who looks down on other people’s life and doesn’t even respect your own life, what right do you have to say that you love me?”

As she finished, Xu Yanwan turned around and left, refusing to look at He Lianjing anymore.

Glancing after her, He Lianjing lowered his eyes and stared at his toes. Could he have been wrong?

Perhaps, it was just like what Xu Yanwan had said—he was just a heartless man with a cruel personality who didn’t have the right to talk about love.
