Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1511

Yan stumbled and slipped on the icy cold ground. Meanwhile, the person she ran into still stood firm and went to grab her arm when she stood back up. “It’s you?”

She turned her head up at the familiar voice and was astounded to see who it was. The person she ran into was Xiao Su. After seeing her pale face and watching her fall, he grabbed onto Yan but did not expect to see that it was really her.

On the other hand, Yan could not think of anything when she saw him. She only thought of Han Qing’s accident and how she had to go to him right away. In her absentminded state, she only took one look at Xiao Su before swinging her hand free then headed outside again. But after taking a couple of steps, there was a sharp pain in her ankle that almost made her fall to her knees if Xiao Su had not been there in time to catch her. “What’s wrong? What’s the emergency?”

Small beads of sweat started to form on her forehead from the pain. It hurt so much that she was unable to walk either. I must have sprained it when I fell earlier. But, I still need to go to Han Qing. I don’t even know how he is right now. I have to go. A thought occurred to her and she gripped Xiao Su’s hands. “I beg you. Please take me to the hospital near East Campus. The hospital near East Campus!”

The hospital near East Campus? His eyebrows slowly furrowed together. “What happened?” What put her in such a panic?

When he did not take her there right away and questioned her instead, she started to leave on her own again. He gave in and said, “I’ll take you there. Just give me a minute.” He was out shopping with Jiang Xiaobai and had waited for her outside while she was inside trying on clothes. Therefore, he had to inform her before leaving.

As soon as he turned around, however, Yan took off while limping. The injury to her ankle was evidently very painful but it looked like she did not feel anything as she kept running forward. Xiao Su had no choice but to go up to her to hold her back. But at that moment, she was unable to hear anything he was saying. Her only thought was on getting to the hospital near East Campus. Alas, he could not win against her so he just brought her to the hospital. Once I send Yan to the hospital, I’ll call Xiaobai to let her know. Xiaobai might get angry later when she comes out and doesn’t see me, but she should understand since it’s an urgent situation. Thus, he began to feel more at ease.

On the drive to the hospital at East Campus, Yan remained silent and simply sat there with a blank look in her eyes, looking very much like a puppet. Seeing her like that, he guessed something serious must have happened and did not dare to ask further.

Jiang Xiaobai went shopping for maternity clothes. She had eaten a lot lately and grown fatter. On top of that, her stomach was also getting bigger. She was no longer able to fit into the maternity clothes she had prepared earlier on. When she was out today, she saw a dress that she liked at a maternity clothing store and decided to try it on. She fiddled for quite a while in the changing room, then was finally able to put the dress on properly. When she looked in the mirror, she felt like she was as fat as a pig now. When I go out later, I have to let Xiao Su know how fat I’ve gotten and how I lost my shape just to give birth to this baby. He has to treat me super well from now on and not let me suffer one bit!

Suddenly, she felt a slight pain in her stomach. It seemed like the baby was kicking her again, so she sat down for a while before going out. However, when she came out, she did not see a trace of Xiao Su anywhere. “Where is he?” She looked around her with the dress in her hand. The shop assistant walked over to her with a smile. “Miss, this dress looks good on you.”

Jiang Xiaobai was not thinking about the dress anymore. She asked, “Excuse me. Where did my husband go?”

The shop assistant was taken aback and looked slightly hesitant. “A lady knocked your husband down at the entrance earlier. After that, it seemed like the both of them left together.”

“Left?” She frowned when she heard that a lady knocked Xiao Su down. “Out of nowhere? How did she knock him down? And why did they leave together?” She could not make sense of any of it.

“I’m not too sure. I happened to be serving other customers, so I didn’t go up close and only got the gist of it. But I’m guessing your husband knew that lady.”

“How do you know?”

“I saw him helping her up.”

A woman Xiao Su knows?

“Oh, but that lady did injure her leg.”

At that, Jiang Xiaobai seemed to put the pieces together and speculated, “Could it be that the lady bumped into my husband and fell, which caused her to injure her leg? So, perhaps my husband helped her up and brought her to a hospital?”

The shop assistant seemed confused for a second then quickly nodded. “You’re so clever, Miss. After hearing you say that, I think that’s what must have happened.”

Jiang Xiaobai was a bit furious. “That b*stard. He should have at least told me if he was going to send someone to the hospital. How can he just disappear like that?” Typical straight men! She fumed.

When she went to get her phone to call Xiao Su, she realized that his phone was with her too. Because she had been using his phone to pay bills and shop, she conveniently put his phone in her bag earlier. That’s just great. Now I can’t get in touch with him and I don’t even know where to find him. At the thought of this, she became glum.

The shop assistant stared at her. “Miss, do you want that dress you’re holding?”

Without Xiao Su around, Jiang Xiaobai did not feel like trying on any more clothes. “Yes. But I can’t be bothered to change so I’ll just buy this one.”

After paying, she carried the item and went out. She waited at the entrance for almost half an hour but Xiao Su still did not return. With that big belly of hers, she could not wait any longer and headed home first. When she arrived home, he was not there either. She just lay on the sofa and watched television while munching on some food.

At some point, Liang Yahe came over to see her. When she realized that Xiao Su was not home, she scolded him angrily. Jiang Xiaobai smiled and told her about the day’s events. After listening to everything, Liang Yahe scolded even more fiercely. “You’re so far along in your pregnancy that you could deliver any day now. Yet, he just left you there to help a stranger? He’s going to get it from me later when he gets back.”

But Jiang Xiaobai did not see a problem with it. If that lady really sprained her ankle, then she had to go see a doctor immediately. Since Jiang Xiaobai was in the changing room for quite some time, Xiao Su, as the typical straight male that he was, probably thought of sending that lady to the hospital first then giving Jiang Xiaobai a call later.

“Mom, don’t scold him anymore. I know his personality. He must have wanted to call me as soon as he was at the hospital, but he just forgot that he did not have his phone with him.”

“I’m so angry. How did I give birth to such an ignorant son? Xiaobai, don’t you try to defend him. When this little brat comes home later, I’ll give him an earful.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1512

It was late in the night when Luo Huimei was still looking after the two children at the Han residence. After drinking their milk formula, the two children fell asleep. Luo Huimei then gave Yan a call.

Yan’s voice sounded nasal over the phone. It was obvious that she had been crying. “It’s fine now, Mom. The doctor said he just has a minor concussion and some cuts and bruises. He will be fine after some rest.”

“That’s good. Since the doctor said there’s no problem, don’t worry too much, okay? Why don’t you come home tonight and rest? I’ll have your dad pick you up, and I’ll keep watch at the hospital.”

“You don’t have to do that, Mom.” Yan sat on the long bench at the hospital and shook her head with the phone pressed against her ear. “I’ll keep watch here. It’s tiring enough to look after the kids. You should rest earlier.” When the call ended, Yan closed her eyes wearily and leaned back.

Han Muzi quickly went to her aid. “Are you okay? Why don’t you go home and rest for the night? Moxuan and I will stay here.”

After the accident happened, Yan called Han Muzi, and the latter immediately arrived at the hospital with Ye Moxuan. Upon hearing what Han Muzi said, Ye Moxuan also looked at Yan. “Yeah, Muzi and I will keep watch here. It won’t be a problem.”

“Thanks, guys,” Yan said but still shook her head. “But I want to stay here until he wakes up.”

Yan was scared out of her wits today. Until now, her injured ankle was still untreated. She kept waiting at the hospital until she was informed that he was okay before she started to feel more at ease.

“You can stay here until he wakes up. We won’t stop you. But don’t you think you should still get your ankle treated first?” Han Muzi suggested. “If you don’t get it treated now, Qing will be so worried when he wakes up and sees you like this. You’ll add worry to an already injured patient.”

Yan figured she had a point. “Okay then, I’ll get my ankle treated.”

After that, Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan took Yan to get her ankle treated then brought her back again.

Meanwhile, Ye Moxuan could not bear to see his wife out and about. He pulled her to one side and said softly, “I called the driver. When he gets here later, you should get in the car and go home. I’ll stay here and keep her company for tonight.”

“No.” Han Muzi instantly shook her head. “How can I let you and Yan stay here by yourselves?”

He could not help but raise his eyebrows at that. “What do you mean? Do you think I’ll do anything with any other woman than you? Or do you think I’m staying here because I have an ulterior motive?”

She almost choked on her own spit as she listened to him. “What the heck are you talking about?” Speechless, she reached forward to pinch his arm. “What are you thinking? I’m not letting the two of you stay here together because I’m scared it’ll make her feel uneasy. She’ll be watching over her husband all night while you’re just there at the side. How would that look? I’ll stay here with her instead. You go home and look after Little Sprout.”

“No.” He quickly refused. “How can I not be worried after leaving my own wife at the hospital all night? We have housekeepers at home. The children will be fine. I’ll stay here with you.”

In the end, both of them stayed at the hospital together. While Yan kept watch inside the hospital room, Han Muzi and Ye Moxuan kept watch outside. The air got colder as the night grew deeper, so Ye Moxuan took off his coat right away to put over Han Muzi, then he held her in his arms. She was so cold that her lips were turning slightly pale. His heart ached at the sight of that, and he scolded in a low voice, “Is this getting harder to bear now? I told you to go home earlier but you didn’t want to. You wanted to stay here and endure this cold. Go and stay with her inside. There’s a blanket and a bed. You can squeeze in with her.”

Han Muzi’s face was turning white from the cold, but she still looked at him and asked, “What about you? You’ll be here by yourself if I go inside. Won’t you be lonely?”

“What? I’m a man. I don’t need you to worry about me. Your man is strong and healthy. This bit of cold can’t possibly get me.”

Hugging his slender waist, she buried her face in his embrace and mumbled, “I don’t want to go in. If we hugged each other tighter, it might not be so cold anymore.”

Hug each other tighter? That sounded like a good suggestion, but the cold air was coming from all directions. The hospital rooms were not like hotel rooms. Booking a hospital room just to sleep in was using up resources. Moreover, there was a shortage of hospital rooms lately so there were no extra rooms available. He wanted her to stay with him. The both of them hugged each other a bit tighter, but he still could not bear to see her endure the cold. Thus, he could not agree. “Hug? Just hurry up and go inside to sleep. After you go in, you can give me my coat back.”

“You’re so petty. Turns out you just wanted your coat back, and you still call yourself strong and healthy. Such a liar!”

He did not argue with her, as he worried that she would have to endure the cold longer if he said one more sentence. Therefore, he got his coat back from her then pushed her into the hospital room. “Go on and rest.”

Once she got pushed inside, the door to the hospital room was closed. Yan looked up at that moment and saw Han Muzi walking in. Then, she got up and went to her side. “Muzi, why are you guys still here?”

“Silly Yan. How can we rest assured if we left you, a girl, here by yourself overnight? Plus, Qing is my brother and Moxuan is his brother-in-law. We have a reason to be here so don’t overthink it.”

“Even so, I don’t want you guys to stay here and suffer with me. It will be a long night. I can stay here by myself.”

“Okay, that’s enough. We’ll take turns, then. I’ll sleep for a bit now, then you can sleep for a bit at midnight; we’ll keep switching. Moxuan will be fine outside.” Han Muzi quickly decided how things were going to go.

After seeing her persistence, Yan did not say anything else. She sat at the side of the hospital bed feeling anxious. As she looked at Han Qing’s pale face, she started to feel unsettled. He was fine before. How did this happen? Is it because he hasn’t been resting well these days, so he got into an accident while he was driving? Fortunately, it was only a minor concussion. If it had been anything more severe, what would Yan and her two children do?

Despite it being a minor concussion, Yan was still scared out of her wits. She had been extremely alarmed before, but now that she was watching him sleep peacefully and his breathing was stable, she started to feel herself relax a little. Nothing can happen to you, she thought silently to herself.

It was noon when Han Qing woke up the next day. Han Muzi had gone home to rest while Luo Huimei made some food and brought it to the hospital. She and Yan had a quiet conversation inside the hospital room. “He must have been exhausted all this time. How else could he have driven into the railing when he was perfectly fine? Like I told you; you should let me help out with the kids. You young people never listen. Since things have turned out this way, do you regret it now? He has to work during the day and take care of the children at night; even a robot needs time to rest.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1513

Yan was unable to lift her head after being berated sentence after sentence by Luo Huimei; she was feeling extremely regretful. She felt like she had not been proactive enough in looking after her children, and Han Qing was the one who woke up every night to change their diapers and feed them. By the time she thought about it, he had already done everything.

“That’s enough, Mom.” Yan felt personally responsible now. She decided that once they got home, she would take her two children and sleep in a different room. She would look after them on her own every night, and do the same during the day. Besides, she did not have to go to work for the time being. Before the two children were able to move around on their own, she felt like she had to look after them well. Moreover, her parents were helping out with the ramen restaurant, so she had some income.

With that being said, she had to let Han Qing get the rest he needed. Once was more than enough for something like this to happen. There can never be a second time.

“Do you think I’m still nagging you? I might nag, but I’m only thinking of the best for both you and Han Qing. Here, let’s do this. When we go home this time, your dad and I will look after the children. They only need to drink milk now anyway, so your dad and I will take care of them. You can go back to work at the ramen restaurant and Han Qing can continue working as usual too. Neither of you will have to worry about the children.”

Yan groaned at her mother in discontentment, “But, Mom—”

“What? You don’t feel assured leaving your children with me and your dad? You were raised by me. I have more experience than you in taking care of children.”

“It’s not that I don’t trust you guys. But I’m a first-time mother and he’s a first-time father, and these children are our treasures. We want to take care of them ourselves.”

“Take care of them yourselves? But you need to be capable of that first. You can earn a lot of money, but if your body doesn’t function anymore, then what’s the point? If you two want to take care of your children, then be serious about it. You want to look after them and go to work at the same time. How is that possible? Your body is not made of steel. Anyway, it’s decided. Either I look after the kids, or you two stop going to work.” Luo Huimei did not sound like she was going to debate this.

When Han Qing woke up, he heard the both of them arguing. In the end, Yan lowered her voice and said, “Okay, Mom. You can look after them if you want. Han Qing is still unconscious, so keep your voice down. Don’t disturb him.”

“Oh, looks like you know how to feel sorry for him now. When he was up in the middle of the night making milk formula and still going to work during the day, how did you not feel sorry for him then?” Goodness, gracious. This girl sure is something. Luo Huimei was baffled by her own daughter.

Han Qing’s fingertips twitched as he looked at the woman standing by his bedside. She was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. Her hair was a mess, and the circles under her eyes were dark. She looked extremely worried and haggard. It looks like she’s been here since the accident happened. Because his mother-in-law was also present, he shut his eyes once more.

A while later, Luo Huimei pressed, “Okay, okay. Staying here for one night won’t be enough. He’s not going to wake up anytime soon. You should go home and shower, then rest for a bit before coming back again tonight.”

Yan shook her head adamantly. “Mom, I’m going to stay here until he wakes up. I already ate, so I have energy now. Can you not force me please?”

“Little brat. Do you think I’ll still force you if you weren’t my own daughter?”

“That’s enough, Mom! The two kids at home still need you to look after them. I’ll just leave them to you then. I can stay here by myself. It’s not like I’m not getting any sleep either. Muzi helped me keep watch for half the night, so I was able to get a few hours of sleep. If I get tired later, I will take a nap here. It’ll be fine.”

One way or another, she was finally able to get rid of Luo Huimei. Exhausted, she let out a sigh. Before she turned back around, a raspy voice said from behind her, “That was tough.”

Her heart thumped. This voice… She quickly turned around and was met with Han Qing’s clear eyes. “You’re up! Does it feel uncomfortable anywhere?” She hurriedly went up to him. When she ran up to the side of his hospital bed, she looked at him with eyes full of eagerness and care.

However, Han Qing noticed her bandaged leg, and her steps sounded uneven as she made her way over. Immediately, he frowned. “Did you get hurt?”

“You just woke up. Do you feel pain anywhere? I’ll go get the doctor, just in case there’s a problem.” She got up hastily, but he held onto her slender wrist. “What is it?”

“I’m fine.” His voice was lower than normal. He gazed at her leg and wanted to sit up, but she pushed him back down by his shoulders.

“Don’t get up yet. You just woke up. It’s best to get the doctor to come check on you first. It’s safer that way.” She was genuinely concerned for his safety.

However, he pressed on, “You’re worrying excessively. There’s nothing wrong with me now. Just tell me this: did you hurt your leg?”

She bit her bottom lip. With an awkward look, she explained, “I just sprained it by accident. It’s not bothering me.”

“Sprained it?” He disregarded her prohibitions and sat up. Because he used too much strength, he started to feel a blunt pain in his head. He stopped moving and did not dare to sit up any further.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” He sat in silence for a while, then reached out toward her. “Sit here and let me see the injury on your leg.”

She wanted to refuse him, but the look on his face did not allow for questioning, so she just sat down. “I accidentally sprained it when I was running. When you were still unconscious, I already went to see a doctor to realign my bones. I just have to keep it bandaged for a few days, then my leg will be fine.” She watched him carefully as she spoke. “So, you don’t have to worry about my injury. Yours is more serious right now.”

He grabbed hold of her restless leg and said gently, “There’s nothing more important to me than you.”

Yan felt like someone had pounded on her heart; it felt weak and numb. She knew that it was not the time for a heart-fluttering moment, but she could not help it. Han Qing proceeded to check over her injury carefully and only felt at ease when he was done. “Did you fall because you ran over hastily after receiving news about me?”

“You’re right on point.” She thought he was incredible. He was not there to witness it for himself, but he knew her every move and behavior.

“Stupid.” After she admitted it, Han Qing reached out to knock her on the head once; it really hurt. Yan was not prepared for such a strong blow. She was in pain for a while before she came back to her senses and cradled the part of her head where she was hit. “It hurts.”

“It hurts?” He looked at her in a funny way. “Is your reaction time that long? Does it only hurt now?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1514

It wasn’t as if Yan had a slow reaction speed. She was simply thinking about something else, so it took her a longer time to react. Then, she glanced at Han Qing pitifully. When she made this expression at him, he paused for a moment. After that, he sighed suddenly. I can’t believe time passed so quickly. My young lady has become a mother of two, and I am now a father too. He, who once believed that he would never get married, had a family of his own now.

Mulling over it, he reached out his hand and pulled her into his embrace. Then, he rubbed at the spot where he had hit her on the forehead just now. “I’m sorry. I was a little agitated just now. Does it hurt a lot?”

Not expecting him to apologize nor help her tend to her wound, she was slightly astonished for a moment. Still, she was hungry for him to hold her. She wanted to snuggle into his embrace, yet she was afraid that his injuries had left him physically weak. So, she settled for half leaning against him as she shook her head. “It doesn’t hurt that much. How could I react so slowly if it hurt that much?” Afraid that he would blame himself for it, she claimed that it did not hurt. Besides, with the gentle motion of rubbing his warm fingers against her forehead, the pain from before had all but vanished.

Then, she seemed to realize something, so she lifted her head to look at him. “You’ve just woken up. Are you sure you don’t want to get the doctor to examine you? I mean, you had a concussion! Although it was mild, I think it’s better to get it checked out.”

No matter what he said, Yan was extremely worried. Han Qing studied her expression, then he nodded his head. If I don’t get examined by the doctor, I don’t think she will stop worrying. “Alright. I’ll have to trouble you to call the doctor for me please.”

“Why are you worried about troubling me?” She glared at him, then pouted as she snapped, “I’m your wife! What are you talking about?” Afterward, she got off the bed and went to call for a doctor. Along the way, she recalled how he said that he was being a burden to her. It felt like he was being overly polite and that made her uncomfortable no matter how she thought about it.

Soon, the doctor arrived, gave him an examination, and confirmed that there was nothing wrong with him. Then, the doctor listed off several things to be mindful of and told him to stay in the hospital for observation for the next three days. If he showed no other symptoms during that period, he could be discharged to recuperate at home.

“Thank you very much.”

After the doctor left, she stood far away and refused to go near him. As he sat leaning against the pillow, he glanced at the young lady, who was already a mother, standing a distance away from him. Then, he couldn’t help feeling curious. “What’s wrong? Why are you standing so far away? Did I offend you?”

She glared at him moodily and snorted, “Nope. You’re so polite; how can I possibly be offended by it?”

I’m polite? The old guy pondered over it and remembered the words he had said to her—specifically, the sentence ‘I’ll have to trouble you to call the doctor for me’. Could it be she’s mad because she felt that my words were too polite?

“It’s just a sentence; is it worth getting angry over?” Han Qing looked at her a little helplessly and smiled. “Come over quickly.”

Yan stood where she was, refusing to budge. After listening to his reply, she felt her frustration growing. “It’s not about that sentence. It’s… You don’t seem to think of me as part of your family.” If he thought of me as family, why would he think that he is being a burden to me?

Han Qing said nothing, so she assumed that he had nothing to say in his defense. However, after waiting for a short moment, she noticed that he was preparing to get off the bed. Shocked, she hurried over to help him. “Didn’t you hear what the doctor said to you? You’re supposed to stay in bed and recuperate. How can you forget it so quickly? Don’t you care about your health?”

“I didn’t forget.” Then, he held her tender, white wrist. Exerting some strength in his hand, he pulled her into his embrace. She anxiously tried to get up, but he tightened his arm around her waist. He held her in a death grip, confining her in his territory as their breaths got nearer and nearer. “I just wanted to talk to you, but you were too far away. Since you weren’t willing to come over, I had to go over to you myself.”

When he said that, his voice was low and hoarse. His voice struck her heart directly, and her face subconsciously heated up. When she spoke again, her confidence had shriveled considerably. “I wasn’t unwilling to come over; I was just—”

“Just what?” He leaned closer, narrowing his eyes slightly as he stared at her. “Just because I was speaking too politely to you, you got angry?

She bit on her lower lip. Although she wanted to explain, she didn’t know how to explain. In the beginning, she was slightly annoyed by it, but it wasn’t to the point of anger. She was feeling a little moody about it, but it wasn’t a big deal. Therefore, when he wanted to get off the bed, she went over to him immediately without caring about anything else. However, the way he talked right now was aggressive and he got closer and closer to her as if he didn’t plan to let her off the hook.

“Hmm?”

“Okay, okay,” she said, giving in as she looked up at him. Then, she bluntly continued, “I did think that you were speaking too politely. We are husband and wife now. Moreover, I’ve already given birth to two of your children. When you got into the accident yesterday, I rushed over anxiously. I didn’t even care that I had gotten injured; I just wanted to stay by your side. However, I didn’t do all that to get your gratitude. I did that because I was worried about you—like how a wife would worry about her husband. So, I don’t want all the things that I do for you to become a burden to you. These actions should be done as a matter of course between us. When you are sick or unwell, you can ask me for help, and vice versa. Aren’t a husband and wife supposed to take care of each other? When you act so politely toward me, it makes me worry about the future—”

The latter part of her speech was stopped before she could finish. He pressed his index finger against her lips, and she lost her chance to say anything else.

“Stop worrying over nothing.” He sighed, feeling inexplicably helpless. Then, he rubbed the back of her head as he continued, “You’ve done so much for me. I’m not acting out of gratitude; rather, my heart aches for you. Besides, I wasn’t being polite when I said what I said. I just didn’t want you to do too much because of me. I’m your husband, and the father of your children. I should be taking care of the three of you. However, I’m not fulfilling my duties right now. Instead, I’ve caused you to run about for my sake despite being injured.”

The two of them might have different ways of thinking, but it was out of concern for each other. As she listened to him, she felt that they were thinking about the same thing. So, there was nothing left to dispute over. Thus, she tugged at his hand and said softly, “I know you want to take care of us, but your body is not made out of steel. Besides, I’m an adult. I can share your burdens.”

Then, he smiled as he looked at her.

“What are you smiling for?” Yan reached out and poked at his chin as she huffily said, “Do you know how worried and scared I was when I heard you were involved in an accident? Do you know that if anything happened to you, I won’t be able to continue living?”

At the end of her sentence, her eyes had reddened as she looked at him with teary eyes. Looking at her, Han Qing felt as if his heart was being pierced by something sharp. It hurt so much it took him a long while to return to his senses. By the time he came back to his senses, he had lowered his head and kissed her on the lips.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1515

As the two of them kissed, a crystal-like tear fell from the corner of Yan’s eyes. It slipped onto the back of Han Qing’s hand and seemed hot enough to sear him. When he released her, he pressed her firmly into his embrace. There was a thick huskiness from the depths of his low voice as he said, “I won’t do it again. I promise that there will not be a second time. I won’t let anything happen to myself.”

Throughout his life, he had lost three of his relatives, one after the other. Thus, he was well aware of the pain losing a loved one would bring. The dead were blissfully unaware, but the ones left behind would have to lick their wounds for the rest of their lives. Those days were incredibly painful and difficult. In the past, he had tried to shoulder everything on his own. However, now that he thought about it, what she was saying was true.

When two people came together, it was about taking care of each other and sharing their burdens. If they only relied on the strength of one person, it was vulnerable and could easily collapse. Most importantly, if something were to happen to him, there would be nobody left to fight for his wife and two children. This time around, this incident had served as a huge lesson to him—blindly protecting a person was not necessarily the best choice.

After Han Qing woke up, Yan took over his hospital bed and slept next to him. Thus, he watched over her by her side. Unfortunately, she was unable to sleep peacefully. Occasionally, she would call out his name in her sleep; she looked anxious as she clawed desperately with her hands. In the end, he reached out toward her. In response, she clutched at his hand tightly; she seemed to be hanging on for dear life as she seized his hand in a death grip. Then, he glanced down at her hand—she was exerting so much strength that the marks were outlined clearly against his arm. Although it hurt, he found it rather sweet. This young lady’s heart and mind are completely filled with thoughts of me. Then, he lowered his head and lightly planted a kiss on her fair forehead, whispering, “Sleep. I’m right here.”

Throughout the three-day observational period at the hospital, Yan remained at the hospital. During that time, Luo Huimei visited twice. The second time was just before Han Qing was discharged from the hospital. She stood outside the hospital room as she gave Yan a dressing down. “You damn brat! You only have eyes for your husband! While he’s injured, you can accompany him in the hospital every day, but you can’t even come home for a visit.”

Yan also felt that she had been too complacent in the past two days, so she scratched her head in embarrassment. Then, she stuck out her tongue and apologized, “Mom, isn’t that because I know you are taking care of my children? That’s why I feel so at ease. Besides, just the other day, you were telling me that you have more experience in taking care of children than I do. I was raised single-handedly by you after all. The reason I’m so healthy right now can all be credited to your efforts. Therefore, I feel extremely confident leaving my two children with you, Mom.”

Tsk. Luo Huimei did not believe Yan’s words; she bluntly showed her disdain for her daughter. “You’re a real piece of work. The moment you see Han Qing, you’re so mesmerized that you lose all sense of reason. Now that I’m nagging you, you turn around and lick my boots. Did you forget about everything that happened before?” Then, she disappointedly shook her head. “Sigh. This girl only cares for love and romance. Your parents don’t even have these genes, so how did you turn out like this? Thank goodness you met a good man. If you had met a scumbag, what would have happened?” Luo Huimei was truly thankful. Had her obstinate daughter fallen in love with a scumbag and refused to listen to anything her family said to her, she would have ruined her entire life.

“Mom, fate has its own plans. Besides, I don’t have a romance-addled brain. Well, even if I do have, my romance-addled brain is morally righteous. I don’t take part in any immoral activities such as breaking apart families, being the mistress, or going after somebody else’s man. Seeing as your daughter has such great principles, how can she fall in love with a scumbag?”

“Hah,” she sneered, glancing sideways at her daughter. “Are you proud of your romance-addled brains?”

“That’s not it, Mom. I’m just explaining a possible scenario. Let’s put it like this then: when Dad got into the car accident previously, didn’t you accompany him in the hospital too?”

“Is that so?” Luo Huimei made an expression that said she couldn’t remember anything. “Why do I get the feeling that you spent more time accompanying your father than I did? Besides, I still did whatever I needed to do at the time.”

Yan had nothing more to say after that. Han Qing only suffered a mild concussion. Moreover, his overall physical fitness was quite good. So, he recovered quickly. After the doctor examined him again, the doctor confirmed that there was nothing wrong with him and discharged him. Thus, Han Qing and Yan finally arrived home that afternoon.

The first thing Yan did the moment she got home was to take a shower to rid herself of the inauspicious air surrounding her. At the same time, she washed away any bacteria she brought home from the hospital. Only after settling everything did she dare to hold her two children.

Although it was only a few days since she last saw them, it felt like she had not seen them in a decade. When she held them, she even remarked to Luo Huimei, “Mom, why do I feel as if they have gotten heavier?”

The corners of Luo Huimei’s mouth twitched when she heard that. “Did you mean to say that they have grown taller? Only three days have passed; how much heavier could they have gotten?”

“They really do feel heavier.”

“Yes, yes. Go and take a rest since you just came back from the hospital. I’ll boil some nutritious soup for the two of you tonight.”

Just before dinnertime, Luo Huimei and Mr. Zhou came over. Then, she personally made dinner and cooked up a nutritious soup. While they were having dinner, she bluntly said to Han Qing, “Qing, don’t blame me for being straightforward with you, alright? This time around, for you to get yourself into this incident is no small matter. Mr. Zhou and I have been very worried. Of course, the biggest issue was that Yan experienced a huge fright. Before this, you two youngsters were being willful. I can imagine that you didn’t take good care of your bodies due to your youth. Still, after this incident, I believe there are some things I have to bring up.”

Han Qing straightened his back. “Mom, please continue.”

Luo Huimei was very satisfied with his attitude. Thus, she blurted out everything in one go. “While you were hospitalized, Yan and I have discussed it. In the future, the two of us will help to take care of your children. We are getting older, so we aren’t capable of running around too much anymore. So, it’s not a bad idea to help you watch your children at home. We only have one daughter, so watching your children won’t cause any issues such as favoritism and whatnot. If you youngsters want to work hard, you can. But, you need to take care of your health first before you do anything else. We are only humans; we all have one nose, a pair of eyes, two pairs of limbs, one heart, and one brain. The things we can do are limited.”

She put down the chopsticks in her hand. “So, what do you think of my suggestion? The two of you can continue to work while we watch your children for you. If you don’t wish for us to help you raise your children, then you shouldn’t sleep together with them. They make too much noise at night.”

“Mom,” he said seriously. “I believe what you’ve said is true. In the past, I tried to do everything by myself. The incident this time has served as a lesson to me. Your proposal is very agreeable. If the children are under your care, Yan and I will rest assured.”

Han Qing took Yan’s hand and placed their clasped hands on the table. “We both agree to it.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1516

“Okay.” Yan nodded and said, “We’ve discussed it. Mom, Dad, you’ll help take care of the children. As for their names, we haven’t thought of it yet. Han Qing wants to get your opinion on this.”

“For their names?” Luo Huimei exchanged looks with Mr. Zhou, then turned to look at Han Qing.

“I think both of you should come up with their names yourself,” Mr. Zhou said profoundly. “The children will carry these names forever, so it’s quite a big deal. Both of us can take care of the children for you two, but it’s not appropriate for us to name them ourselves.”

“Dad, that’s not what we meant. We just want to discuss it with you and Mom.”

Luo Huimei immediately interrupted, saying, “Why can’t you understand, child? Have you ever wondered how your name came to be? Isn’t it obvious it’s because your dad and I didn’t know how to name you back then? We just simply gave you a name. If you want us to name both of your children, they’ll probably be called something like Little X or Little O.”

Upon hearing this, Yan could not help but twitch the corners of her mouth.

Mr. Zhou stopped Luo Huimei awkwardly at this time. “Don’t say it like we’re an uneducated couple. As for the names, you two should decide on them.”

Actually, how could Mr. Zhou be uneducated? He graduated from a prestigious university back then. It was only because he did not put in much effort into naming his child previously, so naturally, they gave her a simple name. Anyway, he thought of names as just something to call a person by. It was only natural for him to simply give a name to his daughter, but it was different now for his two grandchildren. They were the children of Han Qing and his daughter, so they should name their children themselves.

Yan had more to say, but her arm was pulled by Han Qing. “Since you’ve said so, Mom and Dad, then I’ll think of the names for the children instead.”

In the dead of night, Yan snuggled in her husband’s arms and asked while pulling his T-shirt, “Have you thought of the names for the two little fellows?”

“In regards to naming them, I thought I’d leave it to you.”

“Sorry?” Yan was puzzled the moment she heard it. Han Qing mentioned he would come up with the names for their children during dinner earlier, so why was he suddenly letting her do the naming?

“It’s not easy for you to give birth to the children, so you’re the most qualified person to name them. You can name them whatever you like.” Han Qing pinched her nose.

This was the most peaceful day they had after she gave birth to the children. Previously, when the two children were sleeping in the room, they would have to lower their volume when they talked as they feared they might wake them up. Both of them did not have to purposely lower their volume now as the two children were not in the room. Besides, their surroundings were quiet and there were only the two of them. This long-lost feeling made them feel nostalgic.

Yan kicked Han Qing’s leg under the blanket and whispered, “Aren’t you worried that I’ll simply name them? Then the Han family will have children with bad names…”

“It’s fine even if their names are bad. They only have the gods to blame for being born as our children!”

Yan blinked her eyes and immediately started to think of names for their children. Han Qing did not say anything to interrupt her when she was thinking deeply about it. He initially thought he would be able to get the two names from her, but he did not expect to hear long and even breathing from the young lady in his arms a few minutes later.

Han Qing lowered his head and gave a glance, and indeed, Yan was already asleep. She was still holding his collar with her hands when she slept as if she was insecure. Sigh. How could she fall asleep from thinking about names? Did she properly think about them?

However, they were not in a hurry to choose the names, so they just took it easy. Han Qing pulled the blanket and covered her properly before hugging her in his arms after. He then closed his eyes and fell asleep as well.

The next day, when Han Qing woke up, Yan was already lying beside him, staring at him. The moment she saw his eyes that were open, she immediately told him eagerly, “I’ve thought of the names. Let’s name our children Yangchen and Zixi. What do you think?”

Yangchen and Zixi? Those sound like pretty good names. “Are there any special meanings to them?” Han Qing had already acknowledged the names, so he was just casually asking. He thought there had to be a special reason for her to come up with these two names.

Unexpectedly, the young lady’s complexion changed a little as she pouted and replied, “Will you think that I’m being shallow if I say I chose the names just because I find them nice?”

Upon hearing this, Han Qing’s lips curled a little to form a smile. “I won’t. Since I’ve said I’ll let you choose the names, you can choose whatever names you like. Besides, Yangchen and Zixi are very nice names.”

“So, you agree with it?”

“Yes. Han Yangchen and Han Zixi sound good to me.”

“Okay, then the names are decided. I’ll let my parents know after this.”

After that, Yan told the Zhou couple about the names she came up with and they did not have any other opinions about it. As such, the names were decided. When Han Qing went to register the children, he saw Yan’s name come after his on the Han family account and then their two children’s. He felt a warm feeling in his heart as his chest started burning. He would not be alone again after this. Besides his sister, he had his own family with three of his closest people with him.

After the names were confirmed, Yan would call out their names when she was playing with them. The eldest was Han Yangchen and Yan would call him Yang; the younger one was Han Zixi and she would just call him Xi. She would keep calling for Yang and Xi every day.

After everything settled down on her side, Yan suddenly thought of Xiao Su, who sent her to the hospital that day. Everything had happened too fast back then and she did not have time to exchange a word or two with Xiao Su. She thought that it was mean of her to only recall the things that happened that day now that everything had settled down. As such, Yan bought a present and headed to Xiao Su’s house after that.

She had become sisters with Xiaobai. When Jiang Xiaobai opened the door for her when she visited, she was overjoyed. “Why did you come so suddenly? You should’ve sent me a text before coming.”

Jiang Xiaobai wanted to close the door after inviting her into the house, but Yan immediately stopped her. “Let me do it. It’ll be inconvenient for you since you’re already pregnant now.”

After Yan closed the door, she changed her shoes and went in with Jiang Xiaobai. “You’ll be giving birth soon, right?”

Jiang Xiaobai nodded and answered, “Well, the expected date of delivery is coming soon, but the date is also an estimated date. It’s uncertain whether the child will be born earlier or later. I’m staying at home every day now. Would you like to go out with me since you’re here today?”

After hearing this, Yan looked at her pregnant belly with some worry before rejecting her hesitatingly. “I think let’s forgo that plan. You’ll get tired after walking for too long with your big pregnant belly. Why don’t we just stay at home peacefully? We’ll go out after you deliver.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1517

“We’ll go out after I’ve delivered?” Jiang Xiaobai supported her waist and it took much effort for her to sit on the sofa. She replied in an unsatisfied manner, “I don’t think I’ll have the opportunity to do so after I’ve given birth. I’ll be going through my confinement and I’ll need to take care of the child every day after that. I can’t just leave the baby at home and go out by myself.”

“Of course, you can.” Yan smiled while suggesting, “You can let the child drink some milk and let your parents take care of him. Going out once in a while should be fine right?”

In fact, Jiang Xiaobai was actually pretty blessed. Her parents were still alive, and so were Xiao Su’s. Even if she had twins, they would still have many family members to help them take care of the children. Jiang Xiaobai and Xiao Su were the only children in their families, so the new born children would be precious in the eyes of the four elders.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaobai felt that what she said made sense. “You’re right, but I still feel like going out before I give birth. Can’t you just accompany me?”

“I really can’t!” Yan shook her head and rejected her determinedly. “You’ll be giving birth anytime soon. What if you deliver when we’re outside? It’s better for you to stay at home, isn’t it? Oh right, where’s Xiao Su?” Yan only realized that Xiao Su was not at home after having such a long conversation with Jiang Xiaobai.

“He’s out; I’m home alone. Besides, he’ll only be back tomorrow, so I’m very bored at home alone. That’s why I wanted you to accompany me out.”

So Xiao Su has gone out? Yan placed the gift on the table. “It seems like I’m unable to personally pass the gift to him as my token of gratitude.”

“Token of gratitude?” Jiang Xiaobai did not seem to understand. “Why did you prepare a gift as a token of gratitude for him out of the blue?”

“For back then when Han Qing got into a car accident.”

“What?” Jiang Xiaobai immediately became anxious after hearing that her husband had gotten into an accident. “Is he fine?” After feeling nervous, she finally took a deep breath. “Wait, from the look on your face, he should be fine now. I was being too nervous just now; I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine. You’re just worried about me. The doctor has told him it’s just a minor concussion. He’ll be fine after some rest.”

“That’s good to hear.”

“I met Xiao Su at the supermarket that day, so he helped fetch me to the hospital. However, there was too much happening that day and I was urgently looking for Han Qing, so I didn’t get to thank him properly. It’s only in these couple of days that I finally had time and thought of buying something to thank him.”

Huh? Jiang Xiaobai caught the major point there. A few days ago, Han Qing got into an accident while Yan and Xiao Su had stumbled upon each other at the supermarket. He sent her to the hospital after that? That day when he left me alone at the supermarket, it was because of Yan?

For some reason, Jiang Xiaobai suddenly tasted something bitter in her mouth. That day… Didn’t Xiao Su mention he had sent a woman to the hospital? He even told her that the woman hurt her leg. No; Was this what he said, or was I just speculating? Jiang Xiaobai suddenly became a little confused. She was at a loss for words, and there was a booming sound in her ear. Right at that moment, she felt as if her head was hit by something.

“Xiaobai, Xiaobai?”

When Jiang Xiaobai finally came back to her senses, she saw Yan looking at her anxiously. She regained her smile and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I should be the one asking you that.” Yan was looking at her anxiously. “Your complexion seemed off when I mentioned Xiao Su just now. Is everything fine? Did I say anything wrong?”

“No, you didn’t.” Jiang Xiaobai regained her smile and explained while waving her hand, “I’m just glad your husband is fine. You didn’t say anything wrong, so don’t worry.”

“That’s good to hear.” Although she put it that way, Yan found the look on Jiang Xiaobai just now to be familiar. It was a mixed feeling of disappointment and surprise. Did Xiaobai not know that Xiao Su had sent me to the hospital? Or did Xiao Su not tell her anything at all? If that’s the case, then it would probably cause a huge misunderstanding between them, right?

Yan was uncertain if she should explain it to her. However, if she did so, it would only make things more complicated. But, if she did not, there might be a misunderstanding. After giving it much thought, Yan decided to explain the situation to her.

“That day when I was grocery shopping at the supermarket, my mind went blank when I got the news that Han Qing had gotten into an accident. At that moment, I only wanted to rush to the hospital and I accidentally bumped into someone when I was stepping out of the elevator. I didn’t know that it was Xiao Su who I ran into and I kept asking him to take me to the hospital. I guess he probably saw that my leg was hurt, so he couldn’t refuse and sent me there.”

Her words were almost similar to what the sales assistant had told her previously, so Jiang Xiaobai immediately knew she was not lying to her. However, deep down, she still felt a little uncomfortable about it. Why didn’t Xiao Su tell me the person was Yan? The relationship between the two of them was sensitive to begin with. After knowing the person he sent to the hospital was Yan, Jiang Xiaobai didn’t know how to feel about it.

“It’s fine.” Jiang Xiaobai forced out a smile as she shook her head. “I’m not overthinking it. How’s your leg? Is it recovered now?”

“Yes, it’s fully recovered. Thanks for your concern.”

“You can just leave the gift here. I’ll help you to pass it to him when he’s back.”

After that, Jiang Xiaobai acted as if nothing had happened. Yan left after chatting with her for a while. The house went back to its original silence after Yan left. Jiang Xiaobai was standing outside the door with her pregnant belly as she remained silent. In her mind were the scenes of Xiao Su sending Yan to the hospital that day. There was no sign of him when she got out from the fitting room. He did not come back despite her waiting for him for a long time.

After she knew what happened, she felt that she should not be hypocritical. In fact, she did not mind what happened that day. She was not bothered by it. However, now that Jiang Xiaobai knew the person was Yan, her heart did not feel as relaxed as before. Am I being too anxious? Why does my heart feel empty? Does Xiao Su still have feelings for Yan? If not, why did he forget about me and leave without saying anything when he saw that Yan was hurt? No, no!

Jiang Xiaobai tried to shake away her thoughts and forget about them. She should not be overthinking it! Xiao Su was not that type of person. Besides, she already knew his feelings toward Yan before she got married to him. I’ve known about it all this while, so what’s bothering me now?

Jiang Xiaobai stood there for a long time until her legs became sore. She then came to her senses and walked to the sofa to take a seat. Her eyes were a little warm and her nose was feeling a bit sore. The more Jiang Xiaobai tried to control herself from not thinking about it, the more she would think that Xiao Su still had feelings for Yan. Her thoughts revolved around this for the entire day. Why didn’t he tell me about it? If he had just been direct with me, I wouldn’t have minded it. Was he afraid to tell me, or did he find it unnecessary?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1518

Jiang Xiaobai was only thinking about this after Yan left. She did not even manage to have dinner. She was sitting on the sofa all this while without realizing it was already night time. She did not even manage to prepare dinner.

When Xiao Su came back, he noticed that the house was pitch-black when he opened the door. He immediately frowned and thought that Jiang Xiaobai was going to make a fool of herself again. He was only away for a day and she was already messing things around.

Click! After Xiao Su switched on the lights in the living room, he saw Jiang Xiaobai sitting on the sofa quietly.

Jiang Xiaobai was sitting there with a dazed expression, like she was a wandering soul, while her complexion looked unpleasant. Xiao Su was stunned for a few seconds before immediately walking over to her. “Xiaobai?”

Jiang Xiaobai only came back to her senses after he called out to her several times. Her mind went blank for a moment when she realized Xiao Su was anxiously looking at her from the front.

“What’s wrong? Are you going to give birth soon? Are you feeling uncomfortable? Should I go make a call?” It was near Jiang Xiaobai’s expected period of delivery and Liang Yahe once told Xiao Su that the expected period was just an estimated period. If anything were to happen before that, there was still a chance that she would give birth to the child earlier.

Although Xiao Su had been out working the whole day, he was thinking about Xiaobai all the while. He had already been worried about her and thought she was not at home when he came back as the lights were off. Unexpectedly, she was sitting in a daze on the sofa. Xiao Su could only think of one reason why she was acting like this at this time.

However, Jiang Xiaobai was only looking at him in a daze without answering him even when he called out to her. Deep down, Xiao Su was very anxious. As he turned around and wanted to make a call, Jiang Xiaobai reached out to grab him. Xiao Su turned his head and looked at her.

“I’m fine.” Jiang Xiaobai forced out a smile on her lips. “You don’t have to call or send me to the hospital.”

“But…” Xiao Su frowned as he found it odd, but Jiang Xiaobai insisted she was fine. “I’m just a little drowsy and almost fell asleep.” Jiang Xiaobai immediately stood up after saying that. It was probably because she had been sitting there for too long, so her legs were numb when she got up. Fortunately, Xiao Su reached out in time to support her. “Are you sure you’re fine?” he asked, feeling worried.

“I’m fine,” Jiang Xiaobai replied as she shook her head. She then took a deep breath and continued, “Relax; I’m just a little sleepy. I’ll be fine after getting some sleep.” After saying that, Jiang Xiaobai pushed Xiao Su’s hand away, then walked toward the bedroom with her pregnant belly. She tried her best to walk calmly by herself without letting Xiao Su discover that something was unusual. When she finally reached her room and sat on the bed, she realized she had used up all her energy. She lay down on the bed while feeling muddle-headed and looked at the ceiling blankly.

You can’t be like this, Jiang Xiaobai. He only sent Yan to the hospital because she was injured. He can’t actually be blamed for making the decision to do what he believed to be important at that critical moment. Most importantly, if I can accept that person to be anyone else, why can’t I accept it when it’s Yan? Am I overthinking it and being too unreasonable? Jiang Xiaobai told herself to stop thinking about it. She kept trying to get rid of those thoughts from her mind, but no matter how hard she tried, those thoughts firmly occupied her mind as if they had grown roots. I can’t be like this, I can’t be like this. She had already befriended Yan, so she needed to be considerate of her. I didn’t stop Xiao Su from helping Yan, but why didn’t he tell me? He had so many chances to explain, but he did not once mention her name.

After thinking about it, Jiang Xiaobai got tired and fell asleep.

As a result, her dream was all about her being left in the supermarket that day. When she came out of the fitting room, she could not find Xiao Su and there was no response even when she called out for him. Then, as soon as the scene changed, Jiang Xiaobai saw Xiao Su hurriedly carrying Yan into the car while completely forgetting that he had a pregnant wife.

“Xiaobai, Xiaobai.” A voice came from far away. Jiang Xiaobai shook her head while breaking into a cold sweat.

Liang Yahe and Xiao Su were looking at her from beside the bed. Upon seeing Jiang Xiaobai’s complexion, Liang Yahe concluded, “She’s probably having a nightmare. Try to wake her up gently and don’t give her a shock.”

Xiao Su was helpless. Seeing this, Liang Yahe took his collar and pushed him away. “Let me do it. You stay away.”

“Xiaobai, wake up. Xiaobai…” Liang Yahe’s tone was exceptionally soft. However, it took her a while to finally wake Jiang Xiaobai up.

Jiang Xiaobai’s eyes were moist when she woke up. Tears flowed out from the corners of her eyes as she blinked. Pitter-patter! Her tears were instantly absorbed by the pillow.

Upon seeing this, Liang Yahe and Xiao Su were stunned. Liang Yahe immediately became nervous after both of them exchanged looks. “Xiaobai, what happened? Is it because of a nightmare? Why are you crying?”

After being asked by Liang Yahe, Jiang Xiaobai was caught off guard. She did not expect herself to shed tears. Is it because I was so sad in my dream that I cried? Thinking of this, Jiang Xiaobai reached out and touched the corners of her eyes. When she saw her fingertips stained with crystal tears, she smiled unconsciously. “Did I actually cry from shock?” Jiang Xiaobai supported herself up while her expression was awkward. However, it was difficult for her to get up herself, so Liang Yahe immediately rushed over to support her.

As a woman herself, Liang Yahe was keenly aware that Jiang Xiaobai’s mood was off. “Did you have a nightmare? What was it about?” After saying that, Liang Yahe turned to glare at Xiao Su. “Xiao Su, you should go out first.”

Xiao Su was very worried about Jiang Xiaobai’s condition, but she insisted on not going to the hospital, so he had called Liang Yahe over to their place. He did not expect Liang Yahe to chase him out of the room. After thinking for a while, he turned around and left the room.

“Shut the door.” After Xiao Su closed the door to the room, Liang Yahe turned to Xiaobai and asked, “Did Xiao Su do something wrong to you? Tell me and I’ll teach him a lesson for you.”

Jiang Xiaobai did not expect her to be so sensitive. She had only shed a single teardrop because of her dream and did not even make it too obvious, but Liang Yahe was able to guess it immediately. As expected, a woman knew a woman best. “I’m fine, Mom. Xiao Su hasn’t wronged me. Don’t overthink it.”

“How is it possible?” Liang Yahe did not believe her as she shook her head while grabbing onto Jiang Xiaobai’s hands. “We’re both women. Although I’m Xiao Su’s mom, I’m on your side, so you don’t have to be scared. If there’s anything, you can tell me. I’ll do you justice.”

“Mom, it’s really fine.”

“Don’t try to lie to me, Xiaobai. I can see that something’s not right from your mood and the look in your eyes.”

Deep down, Jiang Xiaobai knew that she could not keep it a secret any longer, so she did not deny anymore and said, “Mom, I’m indeed feeling emotional, but I haven’t sorted out my thoughts yet. Can I not say anything in the meantime?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1519

It would not be appropriate for Liang Yahe to continue asking since Jiang Xiaobai had already said so. Since Xiaobai had not sorted out her thoughts yet, it would be counterproductive if she kept forcing her to say something. In the end, Liang Yahe only nodded and patted Xiaobai’s shoulder. “Okay, then I won’t ask anymore. However, you can just throw a tantrum at Xiao Su if you can’t take it anymore. He won’t dare to talk back to you. You can even beat or scold him. Just don’t keep everything to yourself. Otherwise, you’ll get sick from it.”

“Okay.”

After Xiao Su got chased out of the room, he stayed outside the room and never left. He did not even try to eavesdrop on their conversation. When Liang Yahe opened the door and came out, Xiao Su immediately approached her. “Mom, how’s Xiaobai?”

Liang Yahe only scoffed at her son and did not bother replying to him after seeing his anxious response. She then walked straight to the living room. Xiao Su thought of entering the room since she did not respond to him. When his hand was about to reach the doorknob, Liang Yahe immediately turned around and shouted at him, “You, stop there!”

“Mom?”

“Go to the living room now. Xiaobai needs to rest. Do you want to go in and disturb her?”

Feeling helpless, Xiao Su could only retract his hand and follow her to the living room. “Is Xiaobai feeling ill? We’re nearing her expected delivery period. Should we move into a hospital instead?”

“Why do we need to go to the hospital? She’s fine and you want her to stay in the hospital? Are you nuts?”

Xiao Su was speechless when he got scolded by her all of a sudden.

“A pregnant woman will have mood swings. Isn’t it normal for her to feel upset suddenly?”

“What’s the reason for that?”

“There’s no need for a reason!” Liang Yahe scolded again, “She’s pregnant and it’s not easy for her. Don’t you see that she needs to carry her big belly around? She can be angry whenever she wants to. Why would she need a reason or excuse? Xiao Su, my dear, I won’t let you off easily if you mistreat her and she runs away.”

Xiao Su was puzzled after hearing such words from his mother. Ever since he got together with Xiaobai, he treated her as if she was precious. He had never thrown harsh words at her, let alone mistreat her. “Mom, why would I mistreat Xiaobai?”

“You haven’t mistreated her, but what if you accidentally upset her?”

Xiao Su immediately frowned after hearing it. “Did Xiaobai tell you that? Is she angry at me? What have I done wrong?”

“Why are you so anxious?” Liang Yahe scoffed lightly again. “Xiaobai only had a nightmare. I told you this just to warn you, as a mother, to treat Xiaobai well. It’s a blessing from your past life to have such a nice lady who is willing to marry you. You’ll be the one suffering if you don’t cherish her.”

“So, you’re just teaching me a lesson. You gave me a heart attack just now. I thought I made Xiaobai upset.” Xiao Su covered his chest and showed signs of relief.

Seeing him act this way, Liang Yahe wanted to give him a good beating! After telling him so much, he probably did not take her words to heart. She was extremely furious at him! “You little brat, be honest with me. How did you resolve the incident at the supermarket that day?”

“The incident at the supermarket?” Xiao Su was a little confused when she mentioned it. “Isn’t that in the past? Mom, why did you suddenly mention it?”

“In the past?” Liang Yahe sneered as she said, “Are you really that dumb? You left Xiaobai alone at the supermarket and did not even think of compensating her with something while simply letting the case off like that? Are you a dummy?”

Xiao Su twitched the corner of his lips. “Mom.”

“Xiaobai is giving birth soon, so you’d better not mess things up now. Quickly go and make her happy again. If anything happens to her, I won’t let you off easily!”

Although Xiao Su did not know what was going on, he seemed to understand something from Liang Yahe’s words. He was indeed at fault regarding the supermarket incident as he should not have left Xiaobai alone in the supermarket. Even though she claimed that she was fine and could let things pass, he actually did so and let it be. He never thought of compensating her for what happened that day. Xiao Su felt that he should do something after Liang Yahe reminded him about it.

The next day, Xiao Su went to buy a longevity lock for his child who would be born soon, and a pair of earrings from a famous brand for Jiang Xiaobai as a gift. Jiang Xiaobai had been moody since yesterday. Even after receiving the gift from him, her expression was neutral.

“I bought this for you and our child. Come take a look?”

Jiang Xiaobai took a look after receiving the gifts from him. She did not have much of a reaction when she saw her gift, but her eyes seemed moved when she saw the longevity lock he bought for their child. Her fair fingertips gently stroked the lines on the longevity lock as she appreciated it, but at the same time, she was being cautious so she would not damage it. After a while, she took the longevity lock.

“Do you like it?” Xiao Su asked as if he was handing her a treasure.

“I like it.” Jiang Xiaobai held onto the longevity lock while nodding her head softly. “I like it very much, thank you.”

After hearing her thanking him, the smile on his face faded a little. He felt that Jiang Xiaobai was being moody but did not know the reason for it. According to Liang Yahe, it was only usual for a pregnant woman to have mood swings suddenly and he should be taking care of her more. Especially in these few days.

Xiao Su immediately applied for paternal leave and planned to accompany Jiang Xiaobai every moment in the next few days. “What happened to you in these past two days?”

Jiang Xiaobai lifted her head and looked at him while smiling. “Xiao Su.”

“Yes?”

“Do you think our child will be a boy or a girl?” She suddenly thought of asking the gender of their child, but Xiao Su was only able to react to it after a moment. He replied after a while, “It’s fine no matter what gender our child is. I’ll love them as long as they’re my child and you’re the mother.”

Jiang Xiaobai was touched after listening to him say that; her smile became a little gentler and her tone turned lighter.

“If it’s a girl, then we’ll name her Xiao Rou. If it’s a boy, then let’s call him Xiao Wang. How does that sound?”

“You’ve even thought of names already?”

“Yes, I’ve been thinking about it this past two days.” Jiang Xiaobai nodded her head. “I just thought about it a little and I think the names are quite nice. What do you think?”

Xiao Su did not think much and nodded. “I think it’s good; let’s go with them.”

Jiang Xiaobai gave a smile. She lowered her head while taking a look at the longevity lock on her hand, saying, “Also, let’s not send our children to the kindergarten too soon. The teachers there need to take care of too many children. I’m scared that our child will be left out if we send them there. Let’s wait until they grow a little older first.”

Xiao Su felt a little weird after hearing this, but he did not say much and just nodded. “Okay.”

“Good. This is our only child. You must treat it well and cannot beat or scold it; understand?”

Xiao Su replied, “I understand.”

Jiang Xiaobai smiled and continued, “It’s fine if you’re planning to get a stepmother for our child, but make sure she treats our child well. Otherwise—”

Xiao Su frowned deeply at her words this time. He immediately interrupted her before she could continue and asked, “Xiaobai, what nonsense are you talking about?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1520

Xiao Su anxiously grabbed Jiang Xiaobai’s shoulders and pulled her toward him while staring at her seriously and solemnly. “What happened to you in these two days? What makes you say so? Let me know if something happened. Please don’t scare me okay, Xiaobai?

Both of them were so close to each other. Jiang Xiaobai could not help but feel happy when she saw the panic and fear in his eyes. I never thought he’d be scared for me. Is it because of his sense of responsibility, or is he just worried about the child in my belly? After all, the child carries the blood of the Xiao family.

Upon thinking about this, Jiang Xiaobai chuckled softly. “Why are you so nervous? I’m just joking.”

“That’s not how you should joke!”

“Besides, who knows if this will be a joke or not. Giving birth to a child is a serious matter. Look at my big belly. What if I face dystocia?”

“Don’t say something like that!” Xiao Su covered her mouth with a stern face as he warned her to stop. “Don’t say things like this ever again.”

Jiang Xiaobai blinked while poking his palm, asking him to release her. After Xiao Su calmed down, he let go of her. Jiang Xiaobai’s lips were raised in front of him. “But seriously, if I face dystocia, will you keep the mother or the child?”

The mother or the child? Xiao Su’s pupils shrank as he gritted his teeth. “Jiang Xiaobai!”

“Oh my, you’re angry already?” Jiang Xiaobai grabbed his hand while smiling and leaned over to grab his collar. “I’m just kidding. Why are you getting so mad? This is also a very real question. You can just answer me directly with your real thoughts.”

“I won’t let anything happen to you both.” Xiao Su hugged her tightly in his arms when he saw her leaning over.

“Gently, gently.” Jiang Xiaobai was pushing him while enduring the pain. “Your hugs are hurting me.”

Xiao Su immediately released her after hearing this. “Sorry, sorry, I got a little carried away. Are you fine?”

“Why are you so anxious? You haven’t answered my question yet.”

It seemed like she would need an answer today no matter what. Xiao Su looked at her seriously and answered honestly, “You’re my wife. No matter what, I’ll want you to be safe.”

“So, you mean you would rather choose the mother? Xiao Su, I’ve suffered so much carrying the child for 10 months and you dare to not choose the child?”

“What can I do then?” Xiao Su looked at her with his deep eyes. “No matter the child or anything else, nothing’s more important than you.”

His words were full of sincerity and they hit through Jiang Xiaobai’s heart. She leaned over and kissed him on the corner of his lips. “I was just saying it for fun. We’ll be fine—both the mother and child. However, you must promise me: no matter what happens to me, you must protect the child. Everything I said before, you must remember; understand?”

“Don’t say silly things like this again.” Xiao Su gently rubbed the back of her head. “Never say nonsense like this ever again. You and the child will be safe and sound.” He pulled her into his arms and did not realize the smiling face she had on that gradually faded when he was not looking at her. At last, the smile disappeared.

Since that night, Xiao Su kept thinking back to the questions Jiang Xiaobai asked him. He even told Liang Yahe about them. Liang Yahe’s face immediately turned serious after hearing it. “It’s probably because she’s going to give birth soon, so her mood swings are becoming more frequent. The things you say and do must focus on her. Let her know how important she is to you. I never thought the usually cheerful Xiaobai would be in such an insecure psychological state. Xiao Su, you must take care of her more. Next time, when she asks you questions like this again, you’d better not say too much and just be direct with her. You’ll choose the mother, and no matter what happens, you will always choose to protect the mother.”

“I understand, Mom.”

As the days passed, Jiang Xiaobai had been on a shopping spree to buy all the necessities for the child who was about to be born. Although everything was ready, it did not seem enough. However, she would use her card to pay each time. Even though Xiao Su let her use his card, she would never want to. She even said, “This is my money and I’m buying these for my child. Why should I use your card?”

Deep down, Xiao Su was thinking that since they were married, why should they be calculative with each other? He felt that it was normal for him to let Xiaobai spend his money and when the child was born later, the money was to be used on them anyway. “My card is yours as well, so it’s fine if you use mine.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Xiaobai’s hand, which was holding her phone, paused for a moment. Her eyes were full of complicated emotions. Then, she smiled faintly. “You say so now, but in the future, you might not think so anymore. It’s better for you to keep it.”

“Xiaobai.” Xiao Su did not keep the card and only looked at Jiang Xiaobai deeply. “You’ve been acting strangely lately. Are you regretting it?”

“Hmm? Regret what?”

“You regret marrying me and also regret conceiving my child. That’s why you don’t want to use my money, right?”

After he said that, Jiang Xiaobai immediately took the card from Xiao Su and scolded, “Is there something wrong with you? You should be happy that I’m not spending your money. Why would you feel otherwise? Will you only be happy when someone else spends your money?”

“Yes, isn’t it normal for you to spend my money?”

“Fine, I’ll use up your credit limit tonight. Don’t worry,” Jiang Xiaobai said it seriously, but Xiao Su did not feel much because her actions lately were too unusual. It was scaring him. If she actually used up the limit of his card, that would probably make him feel more at ease. All in all, this was what Xiao Su was thinking, but he did not know if Jiang Xiaobai would actually do so.

Unfortunately, that night, before Jiang Xiaobai could use up Xiao Su’s credit limit, her amniotic fluid broke. Before entering the delivery room, Jiang Xiaobai once again asked the question she had asked Xiao Su before. “In case I face dystocia, will you choose to protect the mother or the child?”

“I choose you!” Xiao Su remembered his mother’s words and answered her without hesitation. He was even worried she might not trust him, so he held her hands tightly and whispered, “Don’t think too much. No matter what, you’re the most important. Relax and don’t feel pressured.”

Jiang Xiaobai blinked and asked, “Are you coming into the delivery room with me?”

Xiao Su looked at the doctor beside and asked, “Can I go in with her?”

The doctor smiled and nodded. “Of course, you can. It’s common for the husband to accompany the wife into the delivery room these days. However, does the lady here want her husband to go in with her?”

“Yes.” Jiang Xiaobai nodded immediately. She wanted Xiao Su to see for himself how much she was sacrificing for him. Although she was willingly giving birth to the child, she could not let Xiao Su think that it was an easy job. Besides… there were some decisions that she had already made herself.
