Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1521

Afterward, Xiao Su followed Jiang Xiaobai into the delivery room while both their parents stood outside, waiting anxiously. When they heard that Xiao Su was going to follow his wife into the delivery room, Du Xiaoyu felt embarrassed. “Sigh. Is it appropriate for the husband to go in while a lady is giving birth?”

Liang Yahe, standing nearby, was quick to respond. “Of course it’s appropriate. If he doesn’t go in, how will he know the pain we, as women, go through during labor? Besides, they are husband and wife. There’s nothing inappropriate about it. Don’t worry.”

Giving birth was an experience most women went through. Besides, Du Xiaoyu had experienced it herself before. However, when it was her daughter’s turn, she was so anxious she couldn’t stay still; she was pacing around endlessly. In the end, Jiang Yanke stopped her. “Stop pacing about. It’s giving me a headache.”

“I’m not pacing about. I’m worried about my daughter. Xiaobai is terrified of pain. Sigh.”

“Don’t worry. From today onward, she is no longer a little girl, but a mother. She will become stronger.”

“That’s true.”

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Jiang. Xiao Su is accompanying Xiaobai inside. Xiaobai and her child will come out safe and sound without any issues.”

While the doctor was making preparations, Xiao Su was right next to Jiang Xiaobai. She grabbed at his hand, seeming to think of something suddenly. Then, she whispered at Xiao Su, “Come nearer; I have something to ask you.”

At this moment, he was completely obedient toward her. Thus, he immediately leaned over. “What is it?”

“Who was the person from the supermarket that you sent to the hospital the other day?”

Hearing this question, his body stiffened and he looked over at her slightly incredulously. Why is she asking this question at this time? Don’t tell me she knows that the person from the other day is Yan?

“What’s wrong? Didn’t you say that it was a stranger the other day? Was it not a stranger then? Are you having an affair?” she joked. Then, her expression became pained suddenly. “I’m just asking you a question. Are you not going to answer me?”

When he saw her expression, he felt extremely anxious. He wanted to explain the events from the other day. Truthfully, he had explained it once, but she had fallen asleep at the time. Afterward, he never brought it up again. It was just an insignificant matter. If he kept bringing it up, she would think too much of it. When all was said and done, the relationship between him and Yan was a sensitive matter.

Unfortunately, she was about to go into labor right now. Xiao Su did not want to bring up further issues at this point. Therefore, he hastily replied, “Of course not. I will answer whatever you ask. It was a stranger; she accidentally knocked into me and fell. At first, I wanted to inform you about it, but she was in a hurry to rush to the hospital. I couldn’t bear to stand by and watch, so I sent her to the hospital.” Then, he crouched down, looking her in the eye. “Xiaobai, I’m speaking the truth. That was the exact sequence of events. I really didn’t mean to ditch you or ignore you the other day. Afterward, I even went to the supermarket to look for you.”

“Okay.” Jiang Xiaobai smiled, nodding. “Okay, I get it.”

She didn’t seem to express anything out of the ordinary and looked like she had accepted his answer. Even so, he felt very uneasy for some reason. Holding her hand, he reassured her, “No matter what, you are the most important thing to me. Don’t think too much about it, okay?”

“Okay.”

The unease in his heart grew stronger and stronger.

Up until she was done giving birth, she was afraid of pain. For that reason, she refused to perform a cesarean delivery, choosing instead to go with natural birth. That was because the very idea of opening up a hole in her belly gave her cold sweat. However, the baby was too big and the delivery process of a natural birth did not go smoothly. Therefore, in the middle of the procedure, they switched to a cesarean surgery out of necessity.

After the baby was safely delivered, she remained unconscious. The doctor brought the baby over for him to look at, but he didn’t even give the baby a single glance. From the start, he held onto her hand tightly, watching her nervously. She has given me so much; so, so much.

She was unconscious for quite a long time, during which her consciousness seemed to float about—almost as if she were bobbing in the sea. Even so, she could feel that somebody was holding on to her hand the entire time, and holding on very tightly too. It felt as if the person was afraid she would vanish otherwise.

When she woke up, he was still holding onto her hand tightly. As soon as she opened her eyes, she met his gaze. He seemed delighted and moved to see that she had finally awoken, and his eyes reddened slightly. “You’re finally awake.”

Jiang Xiaobai had mixed feelings in her heart as she looked at the man in front of her. Then, she smiled faintly. “I’m awake. You can’t have stayed by my side the entire time, right?”

Xiao Su did not respond.

She asked another question, “Don’t tell me you stayed in this posture the entire time?”

In the beginning, he wanted to deny it. However, the prickling sensation of pins and needles seemed to stab all the way to his bones when he moved his numb legs. Unable to hold it in, he groaned slightly from the pain. She shot him a look of mild annoyance. “Really, what’s with you? This is the hospital. If anything had happened to me, you won’t even have the chance to stay by my side. So why are you being so nervous?”

He said nothing as he slowly used his hands to support himself and sat on the edge of the bed. Both his legs were completely numb, but he had not been aware of it previously. After she mentioned it, the pain and numbness had hit him in full force.

“Are you okay? You should massage it slightly.”

“I’m okay. It’s no big deal.” Xiao Su felt that the little pain and numbness he was experiencing was nothing compared to the pain she had gone through during labor. Now that she was feeling better, he decided that there were some things he should come clean with her about. “Just now, you were asking about who the person I met at the supermarket was, right?”

Jiang Xiaobai was surprised that he brought up this topic himself. She thought he did not want to talk about it. In response, her breathing hitched slightly before she took the initiative to reply, “Yes, I did. But, you explained it to me, didn’t you? So, let’s not talk about this anymore.” She had no desire to bring up the issue again. She asked about it, but he had not been honest about it. Whether it was due to guilt or something else, it did not matter anymore. She had made up her mind and it wasn’t going to change anymore.

“No, I must talk about it.” He glanced at her in all seriousness as he continued, “This is a serious matter. Previously, I didn’t tell you about it because I was afraid you would overthink it. But now, I think it’s best if I explain it to you again clearly.”

“I—”

Without waiting for her to finish, he straight-forwardly rushed to explain the events of the day. “The person that ran into me the other day was Yan. Han Qing had gotten into a car accident. When she knocked into me, she twisted her ankle. At first, I wanted to go in and look for you, but she looked like she had lost all sense of reasoning. She was in a frenzy to rush outside. I was afraid something would happen to her, so I brought her to the hospital. I swear; there is nothing left between the two of us.”

He looked serious and focused as he spoke. He also seemed afraid that he would anger her with his words. She took in his expression and tone of voice as he spoke. “There was nothing between you and her in the first place, was there?”

She never liked you. It was an unrequited love on your part. Yet, you loved her so bitterly that you got yourself drunk at a hotel over her. In the first place, there was nothing between the two of you. Jiang Xiaobai thought in her heart, Even so, you still chose her over me.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1522

If I were important enough to him, he might not have chased after Yan to send her to the hospital. At the time, I was pregnant too. Wasn’t he worried that something could have happened to me? Jiang Xiaobai was aware that she was splitting hairs over nothing. There had been many other incidents in the past, but she had forced herself to ignore them, and not let herself be bothered by them. She even went so far as to tell Xiao Su that she would wait for him. However, this time around, she couldn’t fool herself anymore, nor did she want to continue fooling herself. Instead, she wanted to magnanimously admit to the fact that he did not love her. I am only human. I’ve fooled myself for far too long. Isn’t it time for me to wake up from this farce?

As the thoughts crossed her mind, she gave a self-mocking laugh and softly said, “I know that there is nothing between you two. So, you don’t need to explain to me so desperately.” She was very tired, especially now when she was just done with childbirth. All she wanted to do was close her eyes, and not think of anything, nor listen to anything.

Xiao Su could tell that she was exhausted. He knew that he shouldn’t have brought this matter up at this time, but he was in too much of a panic. There was a niggling feeling telling him that if he said nothing now, he would lose something important to him. Therefore, he had to say it. “Xiaobai, I actually told you about this matter on the night I returned. However, you had fallen asleep and did not hear my explanation then.”

She paused for a moment. Her eyes had remained closed, but she opened them and looked at him intently after hearing those words. “You told me about it on that night itself?”

“I did.” He nodded. “How could I keep it from you? I’ve told you before that there was nothing between me and her. Were your recent mood swings related to this matter?”

She smiled sadly. “You noticed?”

His heart clenched tightly. He had not expected it to be related to this matter. Thank goodness I spoke up today. Otherwise, I may not have been able to bear the consequences that would have resulted. His expression was pained as if he couldn’t believe it. “The words you said as well as the things you bought for the baby…”

“That’s right,” she bluntly confessed to it easily. “You didn’t tell me the truth. Besides, I asked you about it twice and you said nothing. I feel like such a fool in this marriage. Xiao Su, even I will feel tired after being in a one-sided relationship for so long.” She took a deep breath, then slowly continued, “That’s why I plan to leave after giving birth. Perhaps we were too impulsive in choosing to become a couple and getting married. It’s better if we separated.”

“No!” He gritted his teeth and held her hand tightly. “Don’t talk nonsense! What do you mean by impulsive? Even if you think that you were reckless, I have never thought that way before. Whether it was our dating life or our marriage, I have always been sincere. I have never taken it lightly, nor treated it as a joke!”

Jiang Xiaobai was fully aware of that fact. It was the very reason she had agreed to remain by his side in the first place. Admittedly, the most important factor was that she had fallen for him. Therefore, she had been willing to give him time. However, the deeper she got, the more she realized that many things could not remain as they had been in the beginning. For example, the more she fell for him, the more she wanted him to be like her. She wanted him to love her as much as she loved him. Moreover, she had become petty and jealous. She did not want him to look at other women. It was bad enough if it were a normal woman, but it could not be Yan. Although she and Yan were close friends now, it did not mean that she could accept it. “Xiaobai, are you listening to what I’m saying?”

She smiled weakly and replied in a soft voice, “I heard you. But, I’m very tired right now. I want to sleep, okay?”

He instantly felt awkward; a flash of guilt flitted across his eyes. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disturb your rest at this time.” Unfortunately, these were special circumstances and Xiao Su felt that he had to speak up. Now that he finished speaking, he noticed the exhaustion on her face. Although he felt bad for her, he did not regret it. Then, he reached out his hand and gently stroked her fair forehead. “Sleep now. I won’t say anything else. Don’t worry.”

After that, she closed her eyes. Despite the bitterness in her heart and the exhaustion in her body, she no longer felt sleepy. Her head was filled with everything he had said to her. The decision she had initially made had crumbled to pieces under his gaze and his sincere words, and she was no longer sure of herself. What should I do?

After giving birth, Jiang Xiaobai had planned to go directly to a confinement center. However, Liang Yahe thought that it was better to personally take care of her instead. In the end, Jiang Xiaobai went home after some discussion.

During the time Jiang Xiaobai was pregnant, Liang Yahe had done her homework. It could be said that she was skilled in taking care of Jiang Xiaobai as everything went smoothly and easily. Besides, there was Du Xiaoyu too. Under their care, Jiang Xiaobai passed her days in increasing comfort. Firstly, she didn’t even need to take care of her baby. Secondly, there was food for her when she woke up, and she could sleep when she was tired. Thus, there was nothing to bemoan about the treatment she received throughout her confinement period. There was only one problem—she couldn’t get past the pain in her heart. Therefore, she spent most of her time in depression.

As Jiang Xiaobai’s mother, Du Xiaoyu could tell that her daughter wasn’t doing well emotionally. Thus, she took the opportunity to sit down and have a heart-to-heart with her daughter while Liang Yahe was not around. “You’ve been feeling down recently, and your emotions have been unstable. Are you experiencing postpartum depression?”

Jiang Xiaobai shook her head. “I’m not.”

“It’s not postpartum depression? Then, is the problem an existing issue?”

“Mom.” She looked out the window; her gaze distant. “When you went to get Xiao Su’s and my fortune told, did the fortune teller tell you that our relationship will end badly?”

At the mention of this matter, Du Xiaoyu instantly felt extremely regretful. “Xiaobai, why do you still remember this incident? I apologized to you about it then. Will you stop being angry at me, please? I was in the wrong. Besides, how could anything in this world be accurately foretold through fortune-telling? If a fortune teller could foretell everything, why would he need to be working in that field?”

Jiang Xiaobai simply smiled faintly, but her smile did not reach her eyes, nor did it hold any warmth. “Why do I feel that his words were probably true?”

Du Xiaoyu’s expression immediately changed and she grabbed at Jiang Xiaobai’s hand in a panic. “Xiaobai, don’t frighten your mother. How can you make such silly jokes?”

“Mom, what are you so nervous about?” Jiang Xiaobai patted her mother’s hand helplessly. “I just feel that the fortune teller may not have been saying nonsense after all. He took your money, so he must have done some calculations. He only said both the good and the bad. Who knows what is true and what is false? As to what he said about us either separating in life or parting by death, you don’t need to worry about that. Xiao Su and I will end up separating in life at most. It won’t end with parting in death.” I won’t go so far as to take my own life.

Du Xiaoyu felt faint when she heard those words. Moreover, when she thought back on the recent period, she found it rather strange. Most mothers generally adored their children. They loved to hug them and watch over them. However, during this entire period, Jiang Xiaobai had never held her baby, nor glanced at it. In the beginning, Du Xiaoyu had simply assumed that she was exhausted, or afraid. Now, she finally understood the reason why she refused to hold her baby…

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1523

She was afraid that if she held her baby, she would become reluctant to leave? Had she actually planned to leave since the beginning? Du Xiaoyu was frightened by her thoughts. Then, she immediately grabbed Jiang Xiaobai’s hand and questioned, “Did you refuse to hold your baby because you planned to leave? Xiaobai, promise me you won’t do something stupid, alright? You and Xiao Su have not been married long. He treats you so well, and his mother adores you from the bottom of her heart! Besides, your child is a newborn! It can’t be without a mother!”

Jiang Xiaobai was moved by her words, and her eyes turned red. “But, Mom, this entire marriage is a joke. From the start until the end, it was always a one-sided relationship for me. I can only blame myself for being too conceited, thinking that there was nothing I couldn’t do.” Unfortunately, life has given me a heavy punch in the gut.

“What do you mean by a one-sided relationship?” Du Xiaoyu squinted. “Silly girl, what are you talking about? Aren’t you and Xiao Su happy together? You were dating of your own accord!”

“That’s right; it’s because we chose to date on our own.” No; we weren’t really dating out of choice either. Although a relationship was a two-person affair, if Jiang Xiaobai and Xiao Su had not slept together the other night, they would not have started a relationship in the first place. It was no different from a marriage of convenience.

“Seeing as you chose each other by choice, then what nonsense are you talking about? If Xiao Su doesn’t love you, would he marry you? He treats you so well! Even your wedding rings were custom made! You silly girl.”

Is that so? Does Xiao Su… like me? Jiang Xiaobai had never considered this idea despite how long they had been together as a couple. However, the reason why she didn’t think about it was that she didn’t even dare to think about it. She was afraid that if she gave it some serious thought, she would start to become disappointed and fall into despair. Still, after listening to Du Xiaoyu’s words, Jiang Xiaobai had no choice but to face this question squarely. Does Xiao Su really like me? “Mom, can we not talk about this, please?”

“Why not? If we don’t spell it out clearly, you will just wallow in this state. If that happens, can you hold your head up in front of your child? You won’t even hold your baby. If we don’t talk this through, what will happen when you leave?”

Jiang Xiaobai said nothing in response.

“Xiaobai, if a man doesn’t love you, the person involved would know best. Ask yourself this: does he really not love you? On the day of your labor, you were unconscious after giving birth. When I walked in, I saw him staying next to you, holding onto your hand tightly. He didn’t even glance at the baby. The moment I saw that, I thought to myself that you married the right guy. At the very least, this man knew how to cherish you and understood your pain. But, to cherish you requires inherent feelings toward you. Is he somebody that would care for others without reason?” Then, Du Xiaoyu reached out and rubbed Jiang Xiaobai’s head. “So, you shouldn’t overthink it.”

After listening to those words, Jiang Xiaobai felt surprised. While she was unconscious that day, she had woken up to see Xiao Su right by her side. At the time, she had not felt touched by his actions because she was already under the impression that she was going to leave him. However, she could picture that scene from that day in her mind’s eye after listening to her mother’s descriptions. Perhaps she really was overthinking it? The incidents of that day were already in the past. Still, why did she become so petty and unreasonable when the person he helped turned out to be Yan? Then, she closed her eyes and threw aside all the disordered thoughts in her head. “Mom, I got it. Why don’t you go out first? I need some time to think it through.”

“Alright then. Get your head together, and think about what I just said.”

That night, she lay on her bed with her eyes closed, but she couldn’t sleep. All of a sudden, a baby’s wailing cries rang out from the room next door, making her stiffen in response. The crying sounds seemed exceptionally piercing in the silence of the night and listening to it felt like needles stabbing into her heart. Even so, she did not move. There were others to take care of her baby. However, a long time passed but the baby’s cries continued, and no sound of footsteps came from the room.

Jiang Xiaobai slowly opened her eyes as doubt crept into her mind. Don’t tell me both my mother-in-law and my mother aren’t around? It can’t be; they’re usually very attentive toward the baby. So, they should be around somewhere. Then, why are they doing this? Soon, she figured out the reason why. Perhaps Liang Yahe had also been informed of the conversation she had with her mother this afternoon. Therefore, the two of them were deliberately ignoring the baby, forcing her to go over and take care of him.

After that, she continued to lie there motionless as the baby’s cries continued for several minutes with no signs of stopping. Then, she became more and more disturbed as the cries continued. In the end, she couldn’t stop herself from getting up. She got off the bed, ran over to the room next door barefooted, and pushed the door open.

Once the door opened, the baby’s wailing cries became noticeably louder. There were two cradles in the room—one pink and one blue. In the blue-colored cradle, she saw a tiny, little figure lying in it. Moreover, the baby was fully clothed in light-blue. These were clothes she had bought herself. At that time, she was determined to leave, but she did not know whether her baby was a girl or a boy. So, she had bought one of each. Even the cradles were a set of two. Having given birth to a boy, all the blue-colored clothes, items, and the cradle were used for the baby.

During this period, she had not paid attention to any of these. Taking it all in now, she was overwhelmed by an emotion deep in her heart. Then, she slowly made her way toward the blue-colored cradle, the emotions surging up within her chest.

As the cries became louder and louder, it wormed its way into her heart. At the same time, the little blue-clothed baby lay there, kicking and flailing.

She walked until she stood before the cradle and finally saw her baby’s face clearly. Throughout this period, she had not even looked at him properly, much less held him. The baby that was lying there was tiny and soft; the fairness of his skin was highlighted by the light-blue clothes he wore and his cheeks were chubby. Unable to hold herself back, she reached out and pinched his cheeks—it was soft and bouncy. Then, she couldn’t resist giving it another gentle pinch.

At first, the baby was wailing uncontrollably. However, after being pinched twice by her, he unexpectedly stopped crying as he widened his dark, round eyes and stared at her curiously. The moment their gazes met, Jiang Xiaobai felt her heart went numb. Afterward, she reached out and picked him up with red-rimmed eyes. She was afraid of hurting him, so she moved cautiously while picking him up. Then, she coaxed softly, “Don’t cry; Mommy’s here. Don’t cry, alright?”

In another room not too far away, Xiao Su, Liang Yahe, and Du Xiaoyu were hiding together. Xiao Su was fidgeting anxiously, pacing around the room. Du Xiaoyu was his mother-in-law, so she said nothing to stop him. However, his pacing was giving Liang Yahe a headache. Thus, she scolded, “Sit down right now! Why do you keep traipsing around?”

“Mom, Xiaobai—”

“How dare you criticize Xiaobai? You useless good-for-nothing!”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1524

Liang Yahe was furious. This afternoon, Mrs. Jiang had approached her and told her that there was something wrong with Jiang Xiaobai. After discussing the issue together, she was shocked and panicked to find out that Jiang Xiaobai had plans to leave. For the rest of the afternoon, they discussed possible solutions to the problem. As a result, they came up with a compromise—they decided to use the baby to kindle her reluctance to leave.

At that time, Du Xiaoyu was the first to say, “Xiaobai has refused to hold the baby recently. I guess that she’s afraid of getting attached to him if she holds him too much as it would make her reluctant to leave.”

Then, Liang Yahe immediately responded, “True. After all, she carried the baby to term for 10 months. She definitely has that line of thought. Then, why don’t we use that against her? Let’s make her spend more time with her baby.”

“How do we do that? That girl has such a stubborn personality. I’m worried that she will resist harder if we talk to her about it.”

“We won’t need to say anything.”

“We don’t need to say anything? What are we going to do then?”

Therefore, they came up with this solution tonight. Xiao Su was pulled into the room the moment he returned home. Then, the three of them waited inside the room. They didn’t know how much time had passed, but time seemed to stretch out as the minutes ticked by extremely slowly. Even so, Liang Yahe and Du Xiaoyu remained calm. On the other hand, Xiao Su was unable to contain himself. He did not know what was going on, and not knowing added to his fear and panic.

When he heard Liang Yahe scolding him, he took the initiative to ask, “Mom, what is going on? Why are we doing this?”

“How dare you ask me that? What did you do to make Xiaobai so angry?” Liang Yahe was so furious she started throwing things at him, completely disregarding the fact that he was her son.

In the end, Du Xiaoyu stepped up to stop her. “Mrs. Xiao, don’t get so emotional; calm down. Xiao Su has done well enough.”

“Done well? If he fulfilled his duties well, would something like this happen? Xiaobai is on the verge of leaving because of you, and yet you are asking me what’s going on? Do you have any brains in that head of yours? You can’t even take care of your wife and child! Why don’t you just drop dead?” Liang Yahe was absolutely furious because she was really taken with Jiang Xiaobai. Now that Xiaobai had given birth to a baby, she was even happier with her. To her, Xiaobai was a lucky star. Therefore, she was shocked to hear that Xiao Su had driven Xiaobai so far up the wall that she was considering leaving.

The moment Xiao Su heard those words, he froze in shock. “What did you say?”

On the verge of leaving? Xiaobai is thinking of leaving me? Since the day she gave birth, he had been feeling uneasy. His unease finally erupted and intensified greatly. Then, he stood there blankly. Liang Yahe continued to berate him, but he couldn’t hear a single word she said anymore.

Du Xiaoyu probably felt that Xiao Su looked rather pitiful, so she stopped Liang Yahe again. “That’s enough; stop scolding him. He seems quite upset over it too.” Then, she turned around and walked in front of him, gently saying, “Honestly, we elders don’t know much about the things going on between the two of you. Therefore, we can’t help you with it. Only you can solve this issue.”

After becoming aware of Jiang Xiaobai’s intentions, Xiao Su was determined to solve it himself. Although he had explained himself, it seemed like she was still extremely bothered by the incident the other day. What should I do? I’ve already explained myself. Even so, she is still acting like this. What else can I do? At the moment, his mind was blank and he did not know how to persuade her to stay.

On the other hand, Jiang Xiaobai was in the room. She sat there holding the baby in her arms as she coaxed him. For some reason, be it due to the connection between mother and son or whatnot, he stopped crying the moment she picked him up and looked at her unblinkingly. She felt her heart breaking under his gaze. Besides, his body was tiny and felt soft and warm in her arms, making her unwilling to put him down.

Then, she seemed to remember something and froze. After that, she placed him back into the cradle and turned around to leave. The baby reacted like he had a sixth sense and began to wail loudly again. However, she hardened her heart and continued to walk away, preparing to leave. Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks—somebody was standing at the doorway. “He’s crying so loudly. Can you bear to walk away?”

Xiao Su? She was slightly surprised to see him. When did he come? Still, she had no intention to admit to it. She merely said, “I don’t really know how to take care of him, so I’m going to get Mom over to help.”

After saying that, she tried to leave in a panic. However, when she tried to walk past him, he caught her arm. At the same time, she heard him ask, “Do you not know how to take care of him? Or, do you not want to?”

Her steps stilled, but she did not answer him for a long time. The baby’s wailing cries continued in the background. Even so, none of them moved. A long while passed before she broke out of his restraints and coldly countered, “Since you already know, then why are you still asking me about it?”

He was surprised that she had admitted to it so quickly; he had expected her to continue pretending for a while longer. Seeing as the cards were on the table now, there was no need to beat around the bush anymore. Then, he turned his head and looked her in the eye. “Why? Is it because I helped Yan? Why are you so caught up with it? Why are you thinking of leaving me just because you can’t get over it? So much so that you don’t even want to hold your own child?”

Listen to that tone of his; he is mad at me, isn’t he? “That’s right! I’m insecure because of that incident! I can’t get over it! So what? You must be thinking that I’m kicking up a fuss over nothing, right? Well, I’m unreasonable! I’m petty! I’m overly sensitive! Are you happy with my answers now?”

Xiao Su scowled fiercely. He was here to talk to Jiang Xiaobai, not to pick a fight with her. However, the sight of her determined to leave left him feeling bitterly disappointed for a moment. Therefore, his words came out sounding harsher than he meant to say them. True to her temperament, she instantly dug her heels in and went head-to-head with him the moment his tone became harsh.

“Xiaobai, please don’t be like this.” He immediately softened his tone and continued, “The baby is still crying. Let’s calm the child down first. Then, we can talk, okay?”

Jiang Xiaobai wanted to refuse. However, she couldn’t bear listening to the miserable wailing cries of the baby. So, she closed her eyes and said nothing. He took her silence as her acquiescence to his suggestion and walked over to pick the baby up. For some reason, whether or not he held the child wrongly, the baby continued to wail even after he held it in his arms. The incessant wailing was giving her a headache. At the same time, it pained her to listen to it. Thus, she grilled him. “Do you even know how to take care of him? Why is he still crying so hard?”

He could only coax the baby softly, but it wasn’t working. In the end, she walked over and snapped at him angrily, “Hand him to me.”

He felt a little wronged when she snapped at him, but still handed the baby over to her. Strangely enough, he stopped crying the moment she held him in her arms. While he was astonished by it, he seized the chance to say, “The baby loves you; he can’t live without you”

That single sentence directly resonated with Jiang Xiaobai’s heart. My baby loves me; he can’t live without me. Her hands began to tremble as she held her baby, and her eyes reddened.

“Let’s talk like this, okay?” Xiao Su stepped forward, pulling both his wife and the baby into his arms as he leaned his head against her forehead and spoke in a hoarse voice.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1525

Xiao Su wrapped his arms around her shoulders and leaned against her, his breath blowing against her face. The baby lay in Jiang Xiaobai’s arms with tears at the corner of his eyes. Before this, he had been wailing at the top of his lungs. However, he was quiet now. Opening his eyes wide and staring at the two people in front of him in curiosity, he silently watched them without crying.

Jiang Xiaobai closed her eyes and said exasperatedly, “We can talk, but stop holding me like this.”

“I feel more at ease if I hug you while talking,” Xiao Su said. His words left her momentarily speechless. At the same time, her heart throbbed for a moment. “Recently, you refused to take care of the baby and also ignored me. It wasn’t because you were tired, but because you planned to leave me, wasn’t it?”

She did not answer. Is she tacitly admitting to it? Then, he let out a deep sigh before gently explaining, “If it’s about the incident the other day, then you have wronged me.”

Wronged you? She sneered in her heart, I don’t think I have wronged you in any way.

“That day, I sent her to the hospital due to extraordinary circumstances. Xiaobai, please trust me, okay?” When he said those words, his voice was rather subdued.

Then, she finally lifted her head to look into his eyes. “Trust you? Why should I trust you? I was a pregnant lady in the changing room. There were so many people in the supermarket that even a man like you was knocked into. What if I had been knocked over? Who would send me to the hospital then?”

“But, after I explained it to you the other day, you told me that it was fine. Then why the moment you found out it was Yan “Yes, that’s right! I put that incident behind me; I had no problem with whomever you saved. The only exception to that being Yan! I’m just that unreasonable! She is the woman you held dear in your heart. Of course, you would abandon me for her! This is something I’ve always known, so there is no reason for me to be angry.” Then, she mockingly said, “It’s my own fault. Since the beginning, I’ve known that you love her. Even so, I got into a relationship with you. There are some positions in your heart that will never be replaced. Now, I’m tired; I don’t want to keep this farce up, okay?”

By the end of her rant, Jiang Xiaobai felt that she was being unreasonable and spiteful. Helping someone else was a positive endeavor. Yet, she had passed her days like a jealous woman, going crazy from the jealousy toward Xiao Su’s affection for Yan. It was the only thing that she couldn’t snatch away no matter how hard she tried.

“Alright, I’m tired. If we’re done talking, let’s go back to bed.” After saying that, she pulled away while holding the baby. However, Xiao Su tightened his grip around her waist and hugged her tighter, not allowing her to step back.

“Don’t go. We’re not done talking.” He stared at her intently. “As long as we have not solved this issue, you can’t leave.”

“Xiao Su!” she yelled out his name in anger. His heart throbbed in pain, but he continued, “It doesn’t matter if you’re angry at me or if you want to yell at me. You are going to leave me anyway. If so, then I’m going to be stubborn. I’ll do what I want, regardless of what you wish for.” Then, he pressed forward again, holding her even closer. She was still holding the baby in her arms. So, when he continued to press forward, she was so frightened that she yelled, “Will you be gentler?! What are you going to do if you squeeze the baby to death?”

He came back to his senses from her yelling and took a few steps back. “I’m sorry; it wasn’t intentional.”

She glared at him fiercely. Then, she checked on the baby and found that he was still obediently lying in her arms; his gaze never left her face.

“The baby loves you so much. Besides, he is still so young. Are you willing to abandon him?” He noticed that she had focused her attention on the child, so he decided to use the child to appeal to her emotions. “Look; he stops crying the moment you hold him. If you leave, he wouldn’t be able to have a good night’s sleep anymore.”

“Stop talking,” she interrupted him slightly breathlessly. “Don’t you dare threaten me with the baby. If you provoke me any further, I will take the baby with me when I leave.”

The look in his eyes darkened considerably. “Can you bear to do that?”

She did not respond to his words anymore. However, she thought to herself, Even if I can’t bear it, so what? Why do you have to have a lingering affection for Yan? I, Jiang Xiaobai, have my pride too. “Let go.”

“I won’t.” He hugged her tightly and did not loosen his grip. Thus, she became annoyed. “Are you letting go, or not?” Her expression was frightening—it was obvious that she was furious. Unfortunately, he was afraid of her anger. Under her glare, he slowly released his hold on her.

Afterward, Jiang Xiaobai carried the child back to her room while Xiao Su remained where he was. His eyes seemed lost and pained. Xiaobai didn’t seem like she listened to anything I said just now. What should I do? Has she decided to leave me? If that happens, how am I going to live without her?

He did not know how long he stood there in the room when Liang Yahe walked in. The moment she entered the room, she saw her stupid son standing there in a daze. Then, she flew into a rage again. “You useless brat! I told you to figure it out just now! Were you unable to solve anything at all?”

He lowered his eyes, looking defeated.

“What are you going to do in the future if Xiaobai leaves?”

When he heard those words, he raised his head abruptly. That’s right. If Xiaobai leaves, what am I going to do in the future? I’ve already gotten used to the days with her by my side. He had gotten used to that girl’s merry laughter as she called out his name during winter. Then, when he turned around, she would place her icy feet in his arms without any warning and loudly exclaim; “Xiao Su, quickly help me cover them! I’m about to freeze to death!” He had gotten used to how every time she saw something interesting on the television, she would urge him over with a hooking gesture. When he walked over to her, she would reach up to hug his neck, then rub and pinch his ears as she watched them turn red. He had gotten used to the way she lay in his arms as she talked and joked around. He had gotten used to how she acted spoiled around him, ordered him around, acted cute in front of him, and everything that they experienced together. Now that he reminisced on their time together, his mind was filled with various images.

“That’s true; I can’t live without her.” He smiled bitterly. “Even so, how am I supposed to stop her if she really wants to leave?”

“There are many ways you can stop her from leaving. No matter what, you need to watch her closely. Don’t give her a chance to leave,” Liang Yahe said sincerely. “Can’t you take leave from work and stay home? Keep her company every day; follow her everywhere she goes. If you do that, how is she going to leave?”

These words seemed wise and he felt that they made sense. Thus, he nodded.

Following that, Jiang Xiaobai noticed that Xiao Su no longer went to work. He began to stay at home all day long and occasionally came into her room to keep her company. Unfortunately, she was sleeping most of the time. When he came into the room, she would roll over and turn her back to him. Apart from ignoring him, she did everything else. On the other hand, he took Liang Yahe’s advice to heart. Every single day, he would shamelessly go over and talk to her. Even if she ignored him, he stayed beside her and accompanied her. In the end, Jiang Xiaobai couldn’t stand it anymore. “You don’t mean to lose your job just because you want to watch over me, right?”

Xiao Su gave a self-deprecating laugh at her words. “If I don’t have you, why would I need to work?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1526

Jiang Xiaobai froze in surprise. “What do you mean?”

“In the past, I earned money to save it up. Now, I earn money for you to spend. If you leave, then what’s the point of making any money?”

She did not expect such words from Xiao Su. Therefore, she was stunned for a moment and didn’t know how to respond for a while. After a while, she coldly snorted, “Don’t think that I will forgive you just because you said that. Xiao Su, self-harm tactics won’t work on me. If you don’t want to work anymore, then don’t.” Then, she rolled over and went to sleep, ignoring him after that.

Xiao Su said nothing, but he lowered his head and looked at her back. Then, he sighed gloomily. When night fell, she hugged her baby as she slept while he stayed by her side. He was probably afraid that she would leave, so he stayed in the same room as her. However, she refused to allow him to sleep on the bed, so he could only stay beside the bed.

When she woke up from her sleep to go to the bathroom, she saw him sleeping with his head against the bed. Over the past few days, he had slept in this posture. Thus, he could not get a good night’s sleep. The area around his eyes was dark and looked bruised; his stubble was apparent and his hair was a mess. He had always had a scar on his face, and the scar was more savage-looking, now that he was in such an unkempt state. When she saw the scar, she unwittingly reached out. Just before she touched him, her hand froze mid-air. Then, she withdrew her hand.

At that moment, his hand snaked out suddenly and grabbed her slim wrist. Then, he opened his eyes to look at her. His reaction frightened her so much that her heart seemed to skip a beat. She tried to pull her hand back, but he put a little force into it and sat up while he was at it. “Do you hate me this much?” he asked sadly. “You can’t even bring yourself to touch my face anymore? Or, do you regret marrying me because you think the scar on my face is hideous?”

What? How did he link it to the scar on his face? “What the hell are you talking about? When I first came to know you, your face has always been like this. If I was disgusted by your scar, then why would I get into a relationship with you?”

“Then why are you leaving me?” He held onto her hand tightly and said in a low voice, “Even I couldn’t accept my ugly self, but you accepted me. But now, you’re going to leave me over a small misunderstanding?”

“A small misunderstanding?” She glanced sideways at him in amusement. “Even now, do you still think that I’m making a mountain out of a molehill when it comes to this incident? You abandoning me isn’t such a big deal after all, right? It’s just a small misunderstanding; so small that it’s insignificant. Is that it?”

“That wasn’t what I meant.”

“What did you mean then?” Jiang Xiaobai asked sharply. “Tell me; what did you mean?” At the end of her sentence, her eyes reddened, her nose itched, and her tears nearly fell out of her eyes. Right before her tears fell, she turned her head away abruptly, refusing to cry in front of Xiao Su. Even so, he saw the tears rolling down her face uncontrollably and falling onto the back of her hand.

Looking at her like that, he felt unusually upset—as if a knife was twisting in his heart. Thus, he did not say anything else. He reached forward and hugged her by her shoulders, placing his chin on the top of her head as he softly murmured, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry; it’s all my fault. Don’t cry. My words just now weren’t intentional. It’s all my fault. I’m so useless. I can’t even persuade you to stay, yet I keep making you mad at me.”

He kept apologizing to her repeatedly. In the beginning, she was only crying slightly. Unfortunately, the more she rubbed at her tears, the harder they fell. In the end, she was an inconsolable sobbing mess. It wasn’t as if she had never been hurt after being in a relationship with him for so long. However, she used to tell herself that it was nothing whenever she felt upset. She would console herself. Then, when she had managed to console herself, she would magnanimously express that it was all in the past. As this had gone on for such a long time, she could no longer get past this hurdle that had been building up.

That night, she sobbed her heart out. As she sobbed, she hammered at his shoulders. “I should never have gotten into a relationship with you in the first place! I should have aborted my pregnancy! Why was I so short-sighted as to get into a relationship with you? Don’t tell me it’s all because I slept with you? I’m a modern girl! Why would I do something as stupid as that? Couldn’t I have found a man who loved me and who I loved? Wouldn’t that have been great? Why did I have to get into a relationship with you?”

While she cried, she vented out all the emotions in her heart as well as the words she would never have said under normal circumstances. He shuddered in apprehension when he heard her words, but he was afraid of provoking her. Thus, he could only hold her tightly.

Alas, Jiang Xiaobai cried herself to exhaustion and fell asleep while lying in his arms. Thus, he carried her back to the bed and covered her with a blanket. After tucking her into bed, he saw the baby lying next to her as soon as he lifted his eyes. The baby was watching everything in front of him with his big, deep, and bright eyes—as if he could understand what was going on.

Xiao Su did not know since when the baby had been awake. However, he reached out and picked up his son, hoping to prevent the baby from crying suddenly and waking Jiang Xiaobai up. Under normal circumstances, the baby would have started crying the moment he held him. Yet, the baby was as docile as could be right now while he held him in his arms; the baby remained quiet as he carried him out of the room.

Upon closing the door behind him, he released a deep breath. Then, he looked at the little guy in his arms. He reached out his hand to poke at the baby’s face. “Little fellow, if you are such a well-behaved child, then help your father out a little. Don’t let your mommy leave, alright?”

I really have no idea how else I’m supposed to persuade Xiaobai anymore. The little fellow tilted his head and stared up at him curiously. Then, he laughed bitterly. “Forget it; what does a child like you know?”

After missing work consecutively for several days, Ye Moxuan gave a call to Xiao Su to inquire about it. Xiao Su felt very apologetic. At the same time, he explained his circumstances clearly. He indicated that he wouldn’t be able to attend to the company for the time being as he had family matters to deal with. On the other side, Ye Moxuan fell silent for a long while, then he suddenly asked, “Are you quarreling with your wife?”

Xiao Su paused for a moment, then he helplessly admitted to it.

“Heh.” Ye Moxuan heartlessly laughed at him, then he asked again, “What about the time needed to settle this? How long do you need?”

Xiao Su thought back to how Jiang Xiaobai had cried so heartbrokenly last night, then he sighed. “I’m not sure. Young Master Ye, I’m very sorry. If this arrangement doesn’t work, then you—”

“Xiao Su, are you a man?” Ye Moxuan ridiculed him suddenly.

“Huh?”

“Don’t you know how to comfort a woman?”

Xiao Su said nothing in response.

“Have you ever read the Thirty-Six Stratagems? If you can’t coax her, can’t you persuade her through self-harm? Don’t you know about the trick of injuring oneself to gain the enemy’s trust?”

His eyebrows jumped as if he had heard a terrible suggestion from Ye Moxuan. “Young Master Ye, this is…”

“What’s wrong? I’m teaching you what I’ve personally experienced. Aren’t you going to learn from it?”

Xiao Su did not expect Ye Moxuan to be that kind of person. It can’t be that he constantly studied the Thirty-Six Stratagems every time he made the Young Lady Ye angry, right? Besides, the trick of injuring oneself to gain the enemy’s trust; how am I supposed to utilize that?

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1527

After hanging up the phone, Xiao Su sat at the edge of the bed in a daze. Young Master Ye had taught him a trick, but he couldn’t make heads or tails out of it. How am I supposed to utilize the trick of injuring oneself to gain the enemy’s trust? If I used this method, can I persuade Jiang Xiaobai to stay? What if it makes her even angrier? What will I do then? He felt overwhelmed by his thoughts.

For the past few days, the dinner table was unnaturally quiet when everybody ate together. Liang Yahe tried her best to lighten the mood and made Xiao Su help Jiang Xiaobai fill her plate with food. As the elders were around, Jiang Xiaobai did not express her resistance toward it. When Xiao Su put something on her plate, she turned her head toward Liang Yahe and said, “Thanks, Mom. Please eat quickly.”

“Sure, sure. Make sure you fill your stomach. Don’t let yourself get hungry. It’s very important during your confinement.”

Then, she tilted her head and mulled over something before she suddenly asked, “Mom, I’ve been in confinement for nearly half a month. I want to go out this afternoon; may I?”

When they heard her say she wanted to go out, everyone at the dinner table instantly placed their chopsticks down warily and looked at her anxiously. Although it was a coincidence that they all had the same response, she found it hilarious and upsetting at the same time. “What is with you guys? It’s been half a month. I think I should be able to go out by now, right? I saw many celebrities returning to work very quickly. So, I don’t think it will be a problem.”

“It’s not like that, Xiaobai. The confinement period is usually a month. It hasn’t been a month yet. It’s best if you don’t go out. How can we compare ourselves to those celebrities? Our bodies are important!” Liang Yahe immediately took Jiang Xiaobai’s hand in hers anxiously. “Besides, why do you want to go out? Is there something you need to buy? You can just ask Xiao Su to buy it for you.”

Jiang Xiaobai smiled and gently replied, “Mom, there are some things I need to buy, but he can’t help me with them. So, I plan to go myself. Besides, I plan to go shopping with my friends.”

“It’s still better if you don’t. Finish your confinement first, then we’ll see,” Du Xiaoyu piped up from the side, giving her a dim look. “Don’t trouble others.”

On the other hand, Xiao Su acted as if his meridian points had been pushed when he heard that Jiang Xiaobai wanted to go out—he sat there with his gaze fixed firmly on her. Unfortunately, she did not spare him a single glance, treating him as if he was transparent. Why did she suddenly bring up the topic of going out? Could it be that she is going to leave? He felt as if his life in the future was shrouded in shades of gray. No, no; Xiaobai can’t leave me!

Then, he grabbed her slim wrists and pulled her up. She was just about to eat when he grabbed her without warning. Without waiting for her to react, he picked her up in a princess carry and walked toward the room.

The two elders were still at the dinner table, so she did not expect him to do this. By the time she realized it, her face was hot as she hit his shoulder as hard as she could. “What are you doing? Quickly put me down! Don’t you know our elders are watching?”

When Liang Yahe saw this, she was so angry that she stood up and was about to rush over. However, Du Xiaoyu stopped her. “Don’t go. It’s their problem; let them handle it on their own.”

“But, the way Xiao Su is, will he hit Bai? No, no! I need to check on her.”

Liang Yahe was very worried. It took Du Xiaoyu a lot of effort to hold her back, then she quietly said, “These are matters between a man and a woman. Don’t put your nose in it. I think we should go out and stretch our legs, then come back later. I can tell that Xiao Su isn’t the type of person that would resort to violence. Besides, he needs a breakthrough with Xiaobai’s current situation or else there would be no progress.”

Du Xiaoyu made her decision swiftly and finally managed to convince Liang Yahe to go with her idea. Then, they quickly tidied up some stuff and left the house together.

On the other side, Xiao Su paid no heed to anything else as he carried Jiang Xiaobai into the room and closed the door behind him. She finally found a chance to jump out of his arms. After that, she saw that his eyes had become cold and terrifying. Although she felt scared inside, she acted tough on the outside. “W-What are you doing?” Standing there with her chin lifted, she glanced sideways at him. “Xiao Su, why are you going crazy all of a sudden? Will you believe me if I said I want a divorce?”

“I believe you!” He inched closer to her, step by step. Then, he held her by her shoulders; his gaze was dark. “You are already planning to abandon your husband and your child. What is a divorce to you? And, what is it to me?”

The weight of the words ‘abandoning your husband and your child’ was so heavy that she furrowed her brows. However, she did not refute it because her original intention had been to do so. As the thought crossed her mind, she sneered, “So what if I am abandoning my husband and my child? You don’t even have a place for me in your heart! Am I supposed to make myself miserable and continue in a relationship with you? What do you take me for? Am I some object for you to fill the void with when you’re feeling lonely? I’m just a tool, aren’t I?”

“What are you talking about?” He frowned. “When have you not had a place in my heart?”

“If you loved me, you would not have chosen to help her and left me behind without a care in the world! Honestly, nothing happened that day. But, if something did happen to me that day, would you have regretted it?”

Xiao Su froze for a moment; his hands hanging down his sides subconsciously clenched into fists.

“In the past, I thought that if I gave you some time, you would be able to put her behind you. I thought I could gradually take over the place she held in your heart. However, the incident the other day has clearly shown me that there are some things and some people that cannot be replaced. I was too naïve before—drunk on my fantasies. But, I don’t want to keep my eyes closed anymore! I want to wake myself up from this, okay?” After saying that, Jiang Xiaobai tried to circle him to go out. As she walked by him, he reached out and stopped her, then locked her in his embrace. “Who says you have not replaced her in my heart?”

She was taken aback and stared at him blankly.

“I got over her a long time ago!” Then, he lowered his head and kissed her fiercely.

“Umph—” She thought he would explain himself, but he came on her suddenly instead. Moreover, his kiss was fierce and urgent; his teeth hit her on her lips. The pain from it nearly brought her to tears. This b*stard! She reached up and pushed against him. I refuse to accept such a rough kiss! It’s like he’s taking it out on me!

Her struggles made him think that she had not taken a single word he said to heart. Thus, his movements became fiercer in response to his emotions. He pressed her against a nearby bookshelf. Then, he grabbed her lower jaw and pried her teeth open, forcing his kiss on her. “Umph—”

As they struggled against each other, their movements shook the bookshelf and it swayed unsteadily. The books placed at the top of the shelf came raining down on them. In response, he subconsciously brought his arm up to shield them.

Slap! Jiang Xiaobai slapped him across the face the moment she got free. “Get out! I don’t ever want to see you again!”

Xiao Su felt as if his face had caved in from the force of her slap, but his body remained motionless. Then, he slowly said, “What can I do to make you believe me? To believe in the fact that I really do love you?”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1528

Believe you? Jiang Xiaobai touched the corner of her lips with her finger and found blood from his violent kiss just now. Such a kiss was in no way beautiful and affectionate. She was so upset that she let out a callous laugh. “I won’t believe you, nor will I listen to your explanation.”

People tended to speak irresponsibly when they were upset.

“You won’t listen?” Xiao Su looked her in the eye, looking disappointed in himself. “Won’t you believe anything that I do? Would you like me to take out my heart for you to have a look?”

The latter sentence annoyed Jiang Xiaobai. She threw a glance at him in disbelief; she treated him like a maniac and ignored him.

“Is that what you want?” Xiao Su asked and grabbed her hand, refusing to give up. No matter how hard Jiang Xiaobai tried to get rid of his grip, he would not let go. He continued, “Is that what you want? Do you want me to take my heart out?”

“Xiao Su, stop being so childish! Let go of me!”

“I don’t care if I’m being childish. Since you’re about to abandon me, how can I ever face myself if I don’t do anything to fix it?”

As he finished saying this, to her surprise, he dragged her into the kitchen. Not being able to convince her by his words earlier, he came up with a risky plan. No matter how dumb or impulsive this plan might sound, he wanted to give it a go. That day, when Jiang Xiaobai asked him if he would regret it if something happened to her, Xiao Su knew what the answer was: he would be devastated because he could never lose her.

“Xiao Su, what the hell do you think you’re doing? Let me go! Let go of me!” Being dragged into the kitchen, Jiang Xiaobai had an ominous feeling. He did say he wanted to take his heart out for me to have a look. He didn’t mean it, did he? Jiang Xiaobai would go insane if he really did it. So, she raised her voice and yelled boldly, “If you’re going to do something so ridiculous, I’ll never forgive you.”

“What should I do, then?” Xiao Su looked her in the eye, nonplussed, and mumbled in a low voice, “No matter what I do, you’ll never want to be with me, and I can’t live without you. Rather than being in this position, why not let me take my heart out so you can see how I really feel?” Xiao Su opened the cabinet, looking heartbroken. “No matter what you see later, as long as I do it, I hope you’ll finally be convinced by me.”

Seeing him open the cabinet and reach for the knife, Jiang Xiaobai jumped. She quickly grabbed him by his arm. “Stop it! Please stop it!”

However, Xiao Su seemed to not hear that and continued to reach for the knife. When he finally had the knife in his hand, Jiang Xiaobai looked terrified. However, she tried to keep her calm and responded, “Xiao Su, if you really do that, I promise you I’ll do the same to myself. Do you think you’re the only savage one?”

Xiao Su paused as he heard that. Her words had worked.

“Do you really want to do that? Come; take out my heart first and see what that looks like, so that I don’t have to take out my own heart after you do it to yourself.” Jiang Xiaobai proceeded to grab the knife from his hand. Seeing that she was coming his way, Xiao Su was frightened and quickly put the knife back in the cabinet.

“Give me the knife!” Jiang Xiaobai was so bold and fierce as she tried to grab the knife from him.

This was supposed to be a trick to threaten Xiaobai, so that she wouldn’t leave him, as he wasn’t really going to do anything with the knife. Little did he expect that he would have to have to actually risk his life for this trick. Seeing how ferocious Xiaobai was, Xiao Su realized that he might have crossed the line. He shut the cabinet loudly and held Xiaobai tightly in his arms.

“I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have come up with such a terrible idea to make you stay in my life. But please tell me what you want me to do for you to forgive me. I was wrong before this, but I swear to you that I’ve already given up on her. You’re the only one that’s in my heart.”

Had he said this to her earlier, Jiang Xiaobai would have bought it. However, the fact that he chose to only say this now made Jiang Xiaobai feel like he was only saying this to make her stay.

Jiang Xiaobai was still feeling agitated, so she tried to calm herself down by taking deep breaths. After a while, she finally managed to calm down. Then, she looked up at him. “Did you say I’m the only one in your heart right now?”

Xiao Su earnestly looked her in the eye and put up his hand. “I swear.” Then, he put his hand down and leaned closer to her cheek. “She’s something of the past. The other day, I saw that she was injured and had somewhat lost her consciousness, so as a friend, I thought I should send her to the hospital. It wasn’t because I felt bad for her or she meant a lot to me. Besides, if it were you who was injured that day, it would have been more painful than death for me. Xiaobai, I’ve fallen for you since a long time ago. You have to be more confident in yourself, okay?” In the end, Xiao Su began to speak in a humble tone and he was almost begging her.

At this moment, the two were standing so close to each other, and Jiang Xiaobai could clearly see herself in his pupils. Suddenly, she remembered a saying that if someone could humble themself while asking to be loved, it showed that in this relationship, they would always be in a lower position.

Xiao Su’s humble tone reminded Jiang Xiaobai of everything that had happened between the two of them. Even though she was the one who took the initiative in the beginning, she was always in a dominating position whenever she was with Xiao Su. She had never humbled herself. But now that Xiao Su was willing to humble himself, what did this mean?

Jiang Xiaobai began to feel flustered. She pushed him away and turned around. “Let me think about it. I don’t want to talk to you about this today.”

“Sure.” After making her upset once, Xiao Su dared not push her buttons again. So, he complied.

After Jiang Xiaobai left for her room, Xiao Su was in the living room by himself, still feeling the pain on his cheek from that slap and recalling what happened before. He had to admit that he had made a huge blunder today. Why did I do this? Based on Xiaobai’s temperament, she must have hated what I did today, right? Xiao Su smiled bitterly as he gently ran his hand over his cheek.

At this point, he decided to send Ye Moxuan a message. ‘Young Master Ye, your way didn’t work at all. I even earned myself a slap.’

Ye Moxuan was with his wife when he received this message. After seeing that it was from Xiao Su, he nervously put his phone away into his pocket and waited until his wife went to the bathroom to read it. Upon reading it, he replied arrogantly, ‘The injury mustn’t have been serious enough. If your life’s in danger, would she still be mad at you?’

This text seemed to have given Xiao Su many ideas.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1529

To put my life in danger? That sounds good. Why haven’t I thought about this before? If I’m about to die, how could Xiaobai ever leave me? But…

Xiao Su sent out another message to Ye Moxuan. ‘Isn’t that too despicable?’

‘Despicable? Why? This is what a husband and wife do for fun.’ After typing these out, Han Muzi happened to come out of the bathroom, so Ye Moxuan quickly put his phone away.

Seeing her husband’s suspicious movements, Han Muzi squinted. “Why are you acting so suspicious?”

Of course, Ye Moxuan would not let Han Muzi see the texts that he sent to Xiao Su. He waved her off. “Nothing much. Are you hungry? Would you like me to ask the maids to make some lunch?” He suspiciously changed the subject.

Han Muzi squinted lightly and looked him in the eye. “I’m not hungry, and I want you to show me your phone.”

“Sigh…”

“Give it to me.” Han Muzi put out her hand.

“I’m doing anything. It’s just a phone—what’s there to see?”

“Ye Moxuan, are you keeping something from me? Is there something in your phone that should be kept away from me? Fine then. Perhaps I should change my question: are you seeing someone else?”

The last sentence caught Ye Moxuan’s attention. He raised his eyebrows. This was something that he could not afford to be accused of, so he immediately shook his head in denial. “How’s that possible? I’d never fall for another woman apart from you, much less a second glance.” As he finished saying this, he obediently handed his phone over to Han Muzi. “It’s a message from Xiao Su. I was just giving him some ideas.” To settle Han Muzi’s suspicion, Ye Moxuan explained rather frantically as he feared that he would cause the love of his life to get upset.

“Xiao Su?” Knowing that her birth date was the passcode to unlock his phone, Han Muzi input her birth date in and asked, “What kind of ideas? Hasn’t he been on leave recently? I heard his wife just gave birth. Perhaps I should visit them and the baby soon—” Han Muzi paused as she began reading the text messages.

Ye Moxuan started to feel worried as he was unsure if Han Muzi was going to blame him for doing this. A few seconds later, Han Muzi looked at him. “What kind of dumb ideas are you giving him? What does ‘when your life’s in danger’ mean? Is this something people normally do?”

“Sigh. I was merely giving him some suggestions. Why would Xiao Su ever do something like that?”

Han Muzi followed up, “Didn’t his wife recently give birth? How come the two of them are fighting now? What if he does what you suggested without thinking it through? I need to call him.” Immediately, Han Muzi gave Xiao Su a call.

Having not received a response from Ye Moxuan, Xiao Su reckoned that he was not going to reply anymore. When he saw that Ye Moxuan was calling, he picked up right away. “Young Master Ye, what do you mean by putting my life in danger? Do you mean to fake a car accident? Or—”

“Xiao Su!” He was interrupted by Han Muzi’s serious voice before he could finish the sentence.

Hearing that the voice that came from the other end of the phone did not belong to Young Master Ye but a familiar female voice, Xiao Su was stunned for a few seconds. “Young Lady Ye?”

“Don’t listen to all the dumb ideas that he gave you, especially about putting your life in danger or faking a car accident. These things can be serious. Don’t risk your life like this.”

Being severely rebuked by Han Muzi, Xiao Su explained, “Young Lady Ye, it’s not what you think. I’m just faking it, so I won’t be risking my life.”

He’s just become a father and now has a baby to take care of. How can he ever risk his life? “Faking it? What if an accident really happens?”

“There will be no accidents.”

“If you can foresee them, they won’t be called accidents. Anyway, you’re not allowed to do something like that. Did you fight with Xiaobai? There are many solutions to your problem, but risking your body and life is not one of them.” After she said this, she gave Ye Moxuan a fierce look and pinched his arm. “It’s all because of your dumb ideas.”

That pinch was painful, but there was nothing Ye Moxuan could do but to take it and apologize to her.

“How about this—tell me what happened between the two of you, and I’ll see if I have a solution.”

Is Young Lady Ye trying to solve my problem? As a woman, she should understand Xiaobai more, shouldn’t she? But he was hesitant and conflicted about talking to Han Muzi about something related to Yan.

Sensing his hesitation, Han Muzi added, “Are you really planning on listening to your Young Master Ye and put your life at risk? I know you’re trying to scheme your way out of it, but there are many other ways you can do this. Resorting to this option isn’t necessary.”

After being lectured by Han Muzi, Xiao Su finally told her everything that took place recently; Han Muzi began to ignore Ye Moxuan and walked to the window to listen to Xiao Su’s story in order to help him out. After finishing his story, Han Muzi frowned and told Xiao Su, “You’re indeed not handling this matter right.”

Xiao Su felt devastated as he heard this. “I know I made a mistake, but it was an emergency. I—”

Since he did what he did under those circumstances, what else could he say to defend himself? Besides, Han Muzi seemed to be able to put herself in Jiang Xiaobai’s shoes and feel what Jiang Xiaobai felt after Xiao Su left her, especially when she found out that her husband left her for someone he used to like. At this moment, it no longer mattered whether or not he still loved that woman. Everything was decided by one’s subjective consciousness; that is to say: he picked Yan over Jiang Xiaobai. This was deadly detrimental to any kind of relationship. It was not about how reasonable his actions were, as this was something that would hurt most people and leave a scar on them that they could never ignore unless they played the fool. But, how long could one do that for? A lifetime?

“Xiao Su, looking at how things have developed, my view is that if Ye Moxuan did the same, it would be difficult for me to forgive him no matter what he does to ask for my forgiveness. Even if you carry out this plan of yours and manage to make her stay, the fundamental problem is still going to be there; it’ll always be there in between the two of you.”

“Young Lady Ye, what do you mean by that?”

“The best solution now is probably to separate and to have some time to calm yourselves down. Even though it was an emergency at that time, leaving her behind to send Yan to the hospital is still an irrefutable fact. The best you can do now is to give each other some space.”

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1530

To separate for some time? Xiao Su seemed to hear his heart break. We just got married not long ago, and we have to separate now?

“Xiao Su, you can only blame yourself for this because you chose to be with her before you took care of your issues. When you first started dating Jiang Xiaobai, didn’t you feel that things weren’t going too well, and you weren’t expecting too much from it? Frankly speaking, it’s all caused by your irresponsibility; this includes that time when you went to save Yan from the fire while Jiang Xiaobai was out there. I believe that incident must’ve had a huge impact on her. And again with this incident—you still didn’t choose her. Do you think Xiaobai can still feel confident about this marriage?”

Han Muzi’s impeccable words pierced right through Xiao Su’s heart, rendering him speechless. They, however, prompted Xiao Su to realize an important thing about this incident—this was not the first time he went to save Yan’s life. During the fire incident, he braved the fire to rescue Yan, which caused him to be badly injured. When Yan saw how badly injured he was, she felt extremely bad for him. Jiang Xiaobai never forgot this, even though she had forgiven him at that time. Now that the same situation happened again, there was no guarantee that Xiaobai would still forgive him. At this juncture, Xiao Su was in deep remorse. As much as he would like to dwell on his remorse, there was no way he could change what happened.

“These words are from the bottom of my heart. If something like that happened to me and Ye Moxuan—”

Before she could finish, Ye Moxuan interrupted her, “Stop saying that. Why would I ever leave you behind to save another woman? I wouldn’t even give them a second glance, much less rescue them.”

Han Muzi was just trying to make a point to Xiao Su using her and Ye Moxuan as an example, hoping that he could see things better. She was not trying to imply that something would indeed happen to her and Ye Moxuan. She could not help but give Ye Moxuan a look and stated, “Did I say it was going to happen? It’s just an illustration. Why are you reacting like that?”

“Oh.”

“Or, are you hiding something?”

“How’s that even possible?” Ye Moxuan put his arm around her shoulder. “My dear wife, only someone as dumb as Xiao Su would do something like this. I understand well that my wife means the most to me.”

Xiao Su was speechless after being referred to as dumb. Young Master Ye, can’t you cut me some slack? We’re in the middle of a phone conversation. If you really want to criticize me, can’t you wait until we’re done with this conversation? This annoyed Xiao Su.

Later, he heard Ye Moxuan’s comment from the other end of the phone. “Xiao Su, did you hear what I just said?”

“Uh-huh,” Xiao Su responded, albeit feeling slightly downcast.

“Don’t you think that you’re dumb? No matter what the circumstance is, remember to always choose your own wife.” This was something that Ye Moxuan learned the hard way.

“Alright. Just shut up.” Han Muzi pushed Ye Moxuan away and continued, “What I was saying earlier about the illustration goes like this: if something like that happened to me and Ye Moxuan, I’d definitely choose to separate with him for a while for some personal space to calm down.”

“And after that?” This was what worried Xiao Su the most. He feared that after they had calmed down, Jiang Xiaobai would never want to talk to him again.

After that? Han Muzi responded blandly, “That will depend on how much she loves you.”

Xiao Su’s heart skipped. “Young Lady Ye, what do you mean by that?”

“That means if she really loves you, nothing can tear you two apart, and she’ll come back to you after the cooling period. But if she doesn’t love you that much, after realizing what she really wants in this process, she probably won’t come back to you anymore.”

Xiao Su paused after hearing the latter sentence. Even, Ye Moxuan, who had been laughing at Xiao Su’s misery earlier, looked at Han Muzi with a serious look on his face now.

Having seemingly noticed the silence from the other end of the phone, Han Muzi sighed. “That’s how fate works sometimes. I understand that you don’t want her to leave; otherwise, you wouldn’t have employed tricks like hurting yourself to make her stay. But, Xiao Su, the psychological pain and suffering that she’s going through right now are much worse than what you can imagine. For her to stay makes the both of you suffer. Do you understand me?” Xiao Su remained silent. Han Muzi added, “If nothing you do works anymore, why don’t you try my suggestions? Sometimes letting her go doesn’t necessarily mean that she’ll be gone. The compromise that you make now may bring her back. Does it make sense?”

Before waiting for Xiao Su to respond, Ye Moxuan commented gently, “I believe he has heard everything. But he probably needs some time to think it through. Let’s give him some time.”

Agreeing with Ye Moxuan, Han Muzi nodded and hung up the phone. After the call, Han Muzi contemplated for a moment. “Was I being too harsh? Do you think Xiao Su will be able to get through this?”

“That’s not something you should be worried about since you’ve done your best to break things down for him. Now, it’s on him to make the decision.”

Ye Moxuan was right. No one could decide for anyone. Even though Han Muzi had her own views, at the end of the day, she was not Xiao Su. She could only offer her suggestions and let Xiao Su make his own decision.

At this point, Han Muzi handed Ye Moxuan’s phone back to him. “He has definitely made a mistake. If you did something like this one day, I’d never forgive you.”

“Not a chance.” After taking the phone from her, Ye Moxuan placed it on the table, went up to Han Muzi, and wrapped his hands around her. “Even if every man under the sun did this, I’d never do it.” His voice became deeper while he drew closer to her red lips. “You’ll forever be the only one to me.”

“Just talk properly, don’t—mmph.”

After hanging up the phone, Xiao Su sat back in his chair. Before the phone call, his mind was all over the place, but right now he felt that it was quiet and calm around him, and the scattered thoughts in his mind began to come into place. If it were not for Han Muzi’s reminder, Xiao Su had almost forgotten about the fire incident. He reckoned what happened then must have left a deep impression on Xiaobai. The incident was like a seed sown into her. Before anything in particular happened, this seed would remain a seed. But when something particular happened, it would no longer remain as a seed; it would now sprout and grow in Jiang Xiaobai’s heart.

No matter how regretful or painful he was feeling at this moment, he could never go back in time. Did he really want to let her leave, so that both of them could have some time to themselves? If so, what about him? And what about the baby?
