Tang Yuanyuan felt that she had said too much at that point. As she turned around to look at Yuchi Yishu, she realized that he was looking at her in silence. However, there was not an ounce of reproach in his expression.
Tang Yuanyuan was a little stunned. She was sure that what she had said was out of line, and she even felt like a hypocrite. Nevertheless, Yuchi Yishu remained silent.
“Yishu?” She bit onto her lower lip and asked softly, “Were my words… too harsh?”
Yuchi Yishu chuckled as he pulled Tang Yuanyuan down to sit on the snow with him. “How so?”
“Weren’t they over the line?” She felt that she had unconsciously said a tonne of ill-hearted things about An Qian.
“Nah.”
After some thought, Tang Yuanyuan looked at Yuchi Yishu sideways and asked, “Yishu, what if someone else had said all of that about me instead?”
As soon as she asked, she felt his expression turn cold instantly. “Who said that?” he asked.
“Nobody!” She waved her hands, dismissing his question. “You said my earlier words did not cross the line, so I was merely curious that if someone said those things about me, would they not be crossing the line too?”
“Of course it’s different.” Yuchi Yishu lowered his head to meet her gaze as he spoke. “The place you hold in my heart is miles apart from that of any other person. It is completely normal for you to confide in me about your feelings and opinions. But, if someone were to talk bad about you to your face, that’s a whole other story.”
Am I making things up or did he have an underlying meaning to what he just said? But how could it be? He doesn’t know about what happened last night. Besides, Chufeng already took care of the situation, so it’s highly unlikely that he’ll tell anyone.
Thinking of this, Tang Yuanyuan breathed a sigh of relief. She spoke lightheartedly, “With you protecting me, surely no one would dare to speak ill of me.”
She then pulled out her phone and wanted to ask Yuchi Yishu to take some photos together.
Before she could say anything, however, she thought about the photos that they took yesterday, with her face being too fat. She swallowed her words, and started to capture photos of the scenery instead.
After watching her take a few pictures, Yuchi Yishu suggested, “Let me take a few shots of you. Once we get back, I’ll have the photos developed.”
“Huh? No, don’t!” Tang Yuanyuan refused immediately. As soon as she saw Yuchi Yishu taking out his phone to take some photos of her, she covered her face with her hands, not willing to take any photos.
Seeing her reaction, Yuchi Yishu couldn’t help but feel suspicious. He bit on his lip as he contemplated between confronting her about her sudden change in attitude and letting the matter slide.
She has been trying so hard to keep up this façade. Do I really want to expose her?
Yuchi Yishu sighed inwardly as he recomposed himself and said to her, “It’s alright if you don’t want to be photographed. Let’s build a snowman and we’ll take pictures of it instead.”
Hearing his intentions to build a snowman and photograph it instead, Tang Yuanyuan finally eased up and agreed.
Tang Yuanyuan was still a little upset when they started to work on the snowman. As their masterpiece started taking its form, her sorrows eventually melted away with the simple joy of having built a snowman, although her tiny hands were almost frozen to the bone.
After taking several pictures of the snowman, it suddenly hit her that this was the first time she had built a snowman. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, she handed her phone over to Yuchi Yishu as she asked him, “Would you please take a picture of me with the snowman?”
As they built the snowman earlier on, she had intentionally piled up extra snow around the face in a vain effort to make her own seem smaller.
“Alright.”
The first thing Tang Yuanyuan inspected as she looked at the photo taken by Yuchi Yishu was that her face was indeed not that big in comparison to that of the snowman’s.
Feeling somewhat pleased, she saved the photos on her phone.
After that, Yuchi Yishu and Tang Yuanyuan did not head back for the whole day. Instead, they had their lunch and dinner outside before making their way back to the accommodation after nightfall.
The streets were illuminated by lamp posts all the way, their light casting long shadows of them onto the pavement. My shadow looks so thin. If I lose weight, is this how good I will look next to Yuchi Yishu? Tang Yuanyuan kept those thoughts to herself and decided to keep them stowed away in the recesses of her brain.
Tang Yuanyuan had her mind set on a new goal; she will start losing weight upon their return!
She knew that her brother is outstanding in every way, so she must not hold him back!
Come to think of it, she should start losing weight from now on. But knowing Yuchi Yishu, he would not let her get away with starving herself, so she decided that her effective weight loss plan should commence once she returned to school.
She knew that telling her best friend Meng Kefei about her intention to lose weight would be a good move. She would definitely stand by her, supporting her all the way.
Knowing that she has set her mind on something and watching her work hard for it would surely make Meng Kefei pleased.
Unfortunately, naïve little Tang Yuanyuan had no clue about the painful reality check that lay ahead of her. The blow would surely jerk her back to reality.
“Yishu, we’ve been away the whole day; do you think Chufeng would be mad at us?”

“Oh,” said Tang Yuanyuan, feeling rather relieved. However, she couldn’t help but think if the two would quarrel.
By the time Yuchi Yishu and Tang Yuanyuan went back to their accommodation, it was relatively late. The landlord greeted them with the same enthusiastic smile. Learning that they already had dinner, she poured them each a glass of milk tea.
“Drink up, and go to bed early.”
Tang Yuanyuan stared at the cup of milk tea, and thought about it’s high calorie content. She’d better not drink it.
Tang Yuanyuan pushed the cup of milk tea away from her. “Thank you, Madam, but I don’t drink milk tea anymore. A glass of water would be just fine.”
“What’s the matter? Is the milk tea not to your liking, dear?”
“No, not at all, Madam. It’s just that I am parched, and I’ve heard that sweet beverages cannot quench thirst.”
Her cheeks flushed red and she played with her fingers, courtesy of the white lie she had just told. Although the landlord had her reservations on Tang Yuanyuan’s reasoning, she decided not to press any further and served her a glass of water instead.
“Okay, if water is what you want, then water you shall get. Here you go!”
“Thank you, Madam.” Tang Yuanyuan finished the glass of water meekly and followed Yuchi Yishu upstairs.
The landlord sighed as she watched Tang Yuanyuan walk up the flight of stairs.
“This little girl here must have been the reason for the commotion earlier today.”
“Huh?” That husband of hers was oblivious to the situation.
“I’m referring to that An Qian girl. She must have said something about Yuanyuan, which made things tense between them. Look at the girl, she had a good appetite when she first came here yesterday. But now, she dare not even drink a cup of milk tea, and in the morning, she only ate a piece of pastry.”

Her husband was silent, feeling that his wife had a point.

Zhong Chufeng smiled and explained. “She’s just paying the price for what she said. Why do you care so much about her?”

“What were you thinking about?”
“It’s nothing.”
“What’s with the guilty look?” Zhong Chufeng squinted at her and drew himself closer to Tang Yuanyuan. Tang Yuanyuan’s heart skipped a beat, and she took a step backward.
“Chufeng, I’m not feeling guilty.” Tang Yuanyuan defended herself and stood up. “I’m going back to my room.”
“Wait.”
Seeing that she was about to leave, Zhong Chufeng clasped onto her wrist and pulled her back.
Tang Yuanyuan didn’t feel odd, but the moment Zhong Chufeng grabbed her wrist, he let it go as if it was fire. “I still have something to tell you. Have a seat.”
“Okay.”
Tang Yuanyuan had no choice but to sit down next to him again.
“What’s wrong, Chufeng?”
Zhong Chufeng took out a small box from his pocket and handed it over to Tang Yuanyuan.
“What is this?”
“A New Year gift.”
Zhong Chufeng’s gaze was soft, his tone warm. “I wanted to give you this on the first day of the New Year, but I saw that you were sleeping soundly, so I did not give it to you. After that, I wanted to find the right time to give this to you, but…”

“Chufeng?”
“Yuanyuan, be quiet. I will put it on for you.”
“Chufeng, stop. You won’t be able to put it on.” Tang Yuanyuan grabbed his hand. She looked him in the eye and shook her head. “It’s okay if you can’t put it on. Even if it doesn’t fit me, I still like this gift very much.”
Zhong Chufeng’s gaze was fixated on her. Out of the blue, he punched the wall hard.
Tang Yuanyuan was startled and exclaimed.
“Sorry, it’s my fault.”
He grabbed the bracelet and lowered his head in frustration. “I should’ve paid more attention when I bought it. I’m sorry for being so careless.”
Zhong Chufeng was very upset with himself. Tang Yuanyuan was already so sensitive about her appearance, and his mistake only made it worse.

It was obviously him who had hurt her, but in the end, she was still comforting him with a smile on her face. She told him to not put the blame on himself and proceeded to take the blame.

“Chufeng, hand me the bracelet.”
Tang Yuanyuan reached out her hand toward him. Her tender palm looked pale and fair, just like snow.
“I really like this New Year gift.”
Zhong Chufeng hesitated for a moment before placing the bracelet into her palm.
Tang Yuanyuan tightened her hold on the bracelet and smiled. “Chufeng, thank you for the New Year gift.”
Watching her smiling happily, Zhong Chufeng could only force a smile. “You’re welcome. I’m glad you like it.”
His hands clenched into a fist behind his back.
“Chufeng, I’ll head back now. Stop blaming yourself, okay? Someday, I will definitely be able to put this bracelet on.”
“Alright.”
Zhong Chufeng uttered with difficulty.
After Tang Yuanyuan left, Zhong Chufeng fisted his hands and threw punch after punch at the wall. His knuckles split open, but he didn’t feel any pain at all.
After all, what he did was like cutting Tang Yuanyuan’s heart with a knife, yet she continued to smile and reassure him that everything was fine.
Meanwhile, Tang Yuanyuan went back to her room and admired the bracelet by the window sill. The more she looked at it, the more beautiful she felt it was. Sadly, it didn’t fit her.
As Tang Yuanyuan thought of this, she was filled with determination.
I must work hard to lose weight, so I can wear the bracelet one day. By then, Chufeng will no longer blame himself like he did just now.
However, she felt that Chufeng seemed to be too kind to her.
Time flew when one was having fun. The time they spent in Snow Town passed quickly. As the four of them set off on their return journey, Tang Yuanyuan did not speak to An Qian, and An Qian did not provoke her too. As such, Tang Yuanyuan was really happy about it.

Tang Yuanyuan looked at the phone and saw that it was indeed Aunty Han calling.
“Hi, Aunty Han,” Tang Yuanyuan answered the call sweetly.
Han Muzi almost melted inside when she heard Tang Yuanyuan’s voice. “Are you on the way home?”
Han Muzi knew that they would be returning from their trip today, so after estimating their arrival time, she decided to give them a call to check in on them.
“Yup, we are about to reach home soon.”
“That’s good. You must be tired after your trip. Make a trip here. Let me take a look at you.”
“Sure.”
After she hung up, Tang Yuanyuan told Yuchi Yishu. “Yishu, I’ll be following you home.”
She initially wanted to head home, but since Aunty Han had asked, she’d better make a trip to meet her first.

As they reached Seabay Villa, Tang Yuanyuan was about to get out of the car when Yuchi Yishu’s phone vibrated. She glanced at it and realized it was a text.
‘Happy New Year. Although you’re still unwilling to meet me, I will wait until the day you are willing to accept me.’
She read the whole message at a glance. Realizing that it was rude to do so, she immediately locked the phone.
She raised her head to find that Yuchi Yishu had opened the car door for her. “Come on out.”
Tang Yuanyuan shoved the phone into Yuchi Yishu’s hand as she got out of the car. “Yishu, someone sent you a text. I didn’t mean to read it but the phone screen lit up as I glanced at it, so…”
Hearing that, Yuchi Yishu looked at his phone and read the text. His expression darkened, and he said, “You go in first.”
“Okay, sure.”
Tang Yuanyuan walked toward the villa. As she was walking, she couldn’t help herself from secretly turning back to look at Yuchi Yishu. She saw him making a phone call while he stood next to the car. He was muttering something with a cold expression on his face.
He’s probably talking to the girl who sent him the text, huh?
Based on the text, Tang Yuanyuan knew that the girl had a crush on Yuchi Yishu. It seemed like her feelings for him ran deep. He, on the other hand, probably had no feelings for the girl.
Tang Yuanyuan suddenly felt a great deal of pressure. Apart from herself, there were countless obstacles on the road toward Yuchi Yishu. After all, Yishu was so brilliant and there were so many people who had a crush on him.
If she didn’t hurry, he might meet someone before she could lose weight. By then, she wouldn’t even stand a chance even if she slimmed down.
After Tang Yuanyuan returned home, she did thorough research on the internet and wrote a bunch of notes in her notebook. After spending the whole night doing research and taking notes, Tang Yuanyuan finally worked out her own weight loss plan.
In the midst of her research, Mrs. Tang called her for dinner, but Tang Yuanyuan didn’t seem to hear her. Curious as to what she was working on, Mrs. Tang entered the room with a tray of food.
“What are you writing?”
When Tang Yuanyuan heard her approaching, she instantly reached out to cover her notebook.
“Mom, no peeking.”
“Why so mysterious?” Mrs. Tang glared at her. “Why can’t I take a look? It’s not like I’m going to gobble you up.”
“I won’t let you see it.”
Tang Yuanyuan insisted on not letting Mrs. Tang have a look. The latter had no choice but to leave the food on the table, saying, “Fine, I won’t look at it, but do remember to eat your dinner.”
“Sure, Mom. You may leave now.”
However, by the time Tang Yuanyuan finished planning, the food had grown cold, and she even forgot to eat.
This was the first time Tang Yuanyuan didn’t feel hungry although she hadn’t eaten anything. The food had already grown cold, but she still tried to eat some of it. She initially planned to eat more meat, but after thinking about the amount of meat she already had on her body, Tang Yuanyuan reluctantly decided to forgo meat and finish her bowl of rice only.
After finishing her dinner, she looked through her plan with satisfaction. From the next day onward, she would stick to the plan diligently, and would definitely lose weight.

When Mrs. Tang went to wake Tang Yuanyuan, she opened her door, only to realize that her room was empty.
“Where is she?”

Mrs. Tang had never thought that Tang Yuanyuan would wake up early in morning just to go for a morning jog.
“Yes, Madam. Miss even changed into her sports shoes.”
“How long has it been since she left?”
“About an hour.”

Mrs. Tang was taken aback when she heard how long Tang Yuanyuan had been gone. “She still hasn’t returned after an hour? Where did she go?”
“This can’t be happening.” Mrs. Tang’s expression became a little serious. “A young girl like her going out early in the morning is dangerous. I have to go and look for her immediately.”
Then, Mrs. Tang ordered the servant. “Go upstairs and wake Mr. Tang up. Tell him about this and ask him to look for her too. ”
After giving the orders, Mrs. Tang put on her jacket and prepared to leave the house.
As soon as she left the house, she stumbled upon Tang Yuanyuan who had just returned from her morning jog.
“Mom?”

Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. “I will not catch a cold, Mom. I went for a jog and my body is all warmed up. I even sweated so much that I’m feeling hot right now.”
Tang Yuanyuan headed in and took her clothes off. Mrs. Tang instantly took a towel for Tang Yuanyuan to wipe her sweat off. “After drying yourself, remember to go change into a new set of clothes immediately. You’ve never got up this early to go for a morning jog before. Why did you suddenly wake up so early and become so hardworking? Who are you trying to scare?”
Tang Yuanyuan was panting slightly. Truth is, she only went for a slow jog today, but it was tiring indeed. During her jog, there were several times where Tang Yuanyuan thought of giving up, but everytime she thought of Yuchi Yishu, she gritted her teeth and continued jogging.
When she realized it was almost an hour, she headed home.
“It’s nothing, Mom. I just realized that I should be exercising more often.” Tang Yuanyuan didn’t tell Mrs. Tang that she wanted to lose weight, so she made up an excuse. “When we were on our trip, there was a madam who told me that our life depended on the exercise that we do, and we have to exercise more often to be healthy.”
“Oh. Back when I used to tell you about this, why didn’t you listen to me? Is it because what I said was nonsense, but what others say is an imperial edict?”
Mrs. Tang complained and reached out to poke her head.
“No, Mom.” Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. “I know that you said it for my own good, but anyhow, you’re still my mother and sometimes I can’t differentiate whether you’re just joking around or you’re being serious with me. However, things are different when it comes to strangers.”
“Well, that makes sense.”
“From tomorrow onward, I’ll be going for a morning jog every day.”
“It’s good that you’re taking the initiative to exercise more often. I will not stop you, but you’re not allowed to leave so early in the morning. At least wait until the sun is up before you start running.”
“Okay, Mom.”
Winter break was coming to an end, but Tang Yuanyuan still woke up daily for her morning jog, and even cut down on her daily food intake. She used to eat two bowls of rice every meal, but she cut it down to one bowl, and in the end, not even a single bowl. She even started having corn steamed rolls and a cup of soy milk for her daily breakfast. She also stuck diligently to her daily workout routine.
“Yuanyuan, are you trying to lose weight?”
Everytime Mrs. Tang asked her, she would shake her head and deny it. “No, Mom. I’m just working out!”
“You call this working out? You even started to avoid food with a high calorie intake! Do you think I’m dumb?”
Tang Yuanyuan pursed her lips and said nothing.
Mrs. Tang took her by the hand and pulled her into a room. “Tell me the truth; did something happen during the trip?”
Mrs. Tang knew Tang Yuanyuan too well. She had advised her multiple times before, but Tang Yuanyuan did not heed her words. Although it was a good thing that her daughter was willing to put effort into working out, since it was healthy to exercise and lose some weight, Mrs. Tang was worried about her sudden drastic change. She felt like something must have happened during the trip.
“Nothing happened, Mom.”
“You’re my daughter, so don’t think of lying to me. Tell me what happened. Do you think I would hurt you? ”
Tang Yuanyuan’s eyes, which were as clear as water, stared at Mrs. Tang for a while. She lowered her lashes for a moment before saying, “Mom, do you think I would look good if I lose weight?”
“Of course. Our Yuanyuan is already so good looking when she’s chubby. If you ever lose weight, you would look amazing.”
“Do you think Yishu would fall for me then?”
Tang Yuanyuan took a long time before she asked this question.
Mrs. Tang was taken aback, and she was silent for a few beats.
“Y-Yuanyuan, what are you talking about?”
Mrs. Tang almost couldn’t believe her ears. Tang Yuanyuan was upset when she saw her mother’s shocked expression, and she lowered her head.
“Mom, am I overthinking?”
After saying that, Tang Yuanyuan bit her lower lip, feeling extremely upset. “But… I don’t want Yishu to get a girlfriend. I really don’t want that to happen.”
Tang Yuanyuan finally understood why she was in tears when she dreamed about Yuchi Yishu. It turned out that she had feelings for him, but it was just that it had never occurred to her before.
