Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1611
Yuchi Yishu arranged his pillows. “Just lie down if you’re tired. I’ve turned on the fan for you.”
“Thanks, Yishu.”
Tang Yuanyuan didn’t speak anymore, but she didn’t lie down either. Mainly because she felt that she was sweating profusely, and she was afraid that his bedsheets would smell. After all, she wanted to leave a good impression on Yishu.
Also, it was a male’s dormitory. There wasn’t just Yishu and Zhong Chufeng in the room. There were two other guys that she didn’t know, so she couldn’t just lie down and take a rest there.
Yuchi Yishu left to boil water, and Tang Yuanyuan sat on his bed awkwardly.
Meanwhile, Zhong Chufeng spent a long time rummaging through his drawer, and he finally filled a bag full of junk food before bringing it over to Yuanyuan.
“Here you go! These are all the snacks that I saved. I wanted to give them all to you, so I didn’t eat any of it.”
It was a bag full of junk food. The old Tang Yuanyuan would’ve looked at it with sparkly eyes. Unfortunately, she was currently on a diet, so even though she really wanted to eat them, she still had to restrain herself from doing so.
Hence, she smiled and shook her head. “Chufeng, you can keep them for yourself. I don’t want them.”
Hearing that, Zhong Chufeng was disappointed.
“Yuanyuan, I specifically kept all of these for you. Are you sure you don’t want them?”
“Yes.” Tang Yuanyuan nodded. “I have to control my intake of junk food.”
After explaining, she lowered her eyes, ashamed to reject his offer again.
Zhong Chufeng realized that the current Tang Yuanyuan was a lot thinner than the last time he met her. She looked much slimmer, and it felt like the cute and round girl would disappear very soon.
Zhong Chufeng felt upset when he thought that he was the cause of all these.
“Yuanyuan, I know eating too much junk food is unhealthy, but it’s okay to have them once in a while. If you don’t believe me, why don’t we eat them together?”
Tang Yuanyuan was always fond of eating, and now that she had completely cut that habit off, Zhong Chufeng felt distressed.
Tang Yuanyuan looked up at Zhong Chufeng. She stared deeply into his eyes for a moment and said, “Okay Chufeng, I’ll take the snacks back with me.”
“Really?”
“Sure.”
“Okay, I’ll give them all to you!” Zhong Chufeng was happy to hear that she was willing to take them back.
Meanwhile, Yuchi Yishu was done with boiling the water, and he filled a glass and left it on the table. He didn’t say a word when he saw Zhong Chufeng giving her a bag of junk food.
“Oh, Yuanyuan, why did you suddenly come to our academy today? Was it because you missed us?”
Tang Yuanyuan remembered the purpose of her visit. She came to pass Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan’s gifts to Yuchi Yishu.
She shook her head and looked at Yuchi Yishu. “Yishu, my roommates asked me to hand these gifts to you.”
“Roommates?”
Yuchi Yishu paused for a moment. “What gifts?”
“I have no idea either.”
“Was it the two boxes that I brought in earlier?”
“Yes.”
Zhong Chufeng brought the two boxes over and joked. “I was wondering what was inside when I brought them upstairs just now. I knew it definitely wasn’t something that you would have chosen, but I didn’t expect it to be a gift from your roommates. Don’t tell me it’s from Meng Kefei.”
“Fei? Oh no, she has been very busy with her studies lately. It’s been a while since I’ve last spoken to her.”
Hearing that Meng Kefei was immersed in her studies, Zhong Chufeng laughed unexpectedly and changed the topic. “So it’s from the other two roommates?”
“Yes.”
“Oh.”
The two roommates who pretended to be reading at their desks couldn’t help but get up and join in the fun.
“Yuan, do these two roommates of yours have a crush on your brother?”
Hearing that, Tang Yuanyuan’s face blushed and she did not answer.
“Look, Yishu is so charming that even Yuan’s roommates are interested in him.”
Zhong Chufeng wanted to unwrap the presents in front of everyone, but Tang Yuanyuan suddenly thought of something and stopped him.
“Chufeng.”
“Hmm?” Zhong Chufeng raised his head. “What’s the matter?”
“These are the gifts my roommates got for my brother.”
Zhong Chufeng froze for a moment, but he regained his senses quickly and understood Tang Yuanyuan’s meaning.
It was a gift for Yuchi Yishu, so of course Yuchi Yishu had to be the one to open it. After all, it wasn’t for himself, so Zhong Chufeng immediately raised his hands in surrender.
“I’m sorry, Yuanyuan. I didn’t do it on purpose. It was just that your brother had always received gifts from many girls, and he usually refuses to accept them. However, those girls would always figure out different ways to hand their gifts over to us. Your brother would never accept them, and those girls would never take them back, so in the end, we would just unwrap them.”
“That’s true.” The other two roommates agreed. “We’re used to it already. It’s one of the benefits of being your brother’s roommates. Those girls will always give him chocolates, or wallets, sometimes even food. However, your brother never accepts them, so we get to have them.”
Tang Yuanyuan was dumbfounded. “I didn’t know things worked this way.”
Wasn’t this a waste of their gifts? If Tang Yuanyuan was treated this way when she gave someone a gift, she would be heartbroken.
“Yuanyuan, don’t think too much. Your brother has no choice but to reject all of those gifts. Think about it, so many girls are trying to give him gifts, and if he accepted each and every one of it, he wouldn’t have the time to do anything else. He can’t be taking gifts from one girl but not the other, right? That would be unfair to the other girls. So, he simply decided to not accept any of it, so it would be fair to all of them.”
Tang Yuanyuan was comforted by Zhong Chufeng’s words.
It seems impossible to accept all of their gifts. After all, Yishu does not live for them, so it seems fair to simply reject all of them.
However, it would still be heartbreaking to know that the meticulously prepared gift was not delivered to the person who was supposed to receive it.
“What are you thinking about?”
Yuchi Yishu reached out and caressed Tang Yuanyuan’s head. “It’s what they want to do. I can’t control that. If you were the one who gave me something, I’ll be sure to unwrap it carefully myself.”
“Okay!”
The other two roommates hooted. “I didn’t expect Yishu to have such a warm side. He’s such a protective brother!”
“I finally witnessed it. I used to think Yishu never cared about girls.”
Inexplicably, Zhong Chufeng felt a little strange when he heard that. He was upset and immediately said, “Shut up. Stop spouting nonsense.”
Tang Yuanyuan blushed and asked, “Yishu, are you trying to say that you don’t want these gifts?”
“Yes.”
Yuchi Yishu nodded.
Tang Yuanyuan thought her only choice was to bring them back.
“Yuanyuan, I think you better not bring them back. If you bring them back, they might blame you for not giving it to him. Just tell them that your brother has accepted them, and you have no idea what he did with them.”
“I can’t do that.”
Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. She had always been honest, and would never deceive anyone, let alone her roommates.
“I have promised them to pass these gifts to Yishu. If Yishu refuses to accept them, then I will have to bring them back and return it as well as clarify with them.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1612
In the end, everyone respected Tang Yuanyuan’s intentions. As Tang Yuanyuan had class later in the afternoon, she would have to return after sitting for a while and as expected, Yuchi Yishu would be her first choice to accompany her back. However, Zhong Chufeng didn’t want to let this chance slip away so easily.
While Tang Yuanyuan was drinking some water, Zhong Chufeng pulled Yuchi Yishu aside and told him, “Let me accompany her back.”
Upon hearing this, Yuchi Yishu gave him a slight glance.
“This is such a rare chance for me and this little girl is almost grown up now. You promised me last year that you’ll let me accompany her more, but now she doesn’t even want to meet me after she lost weight.”
Upon mentioning this, Yuchi Yishu’s gaze turned cold and the atmosphere around them turned chilly. “Don’t you have the slightest idea why she lost weight?”
Zhong Chufeng froze. Even before he could react, Yuchi Yishu brushed past him and walked toward Tang Yuanyuan. His tall and slender body bent down as he helped her carry two boxes. “Let’s go.”
Tang Yuanyuan had just finished her water when she saw Yuchi Yishu carry the gifts and hurriedly put down the cup and went to his side. In the next second, Yuchi Yishu squatted down and instructed her, “Come on up.”
“Huh?” Tang Yuanyuan was confused. “Yishu?”
“Weren’t you tired when you came over? I’ll carry you back.”
“No, it’s okay.” Tang Yuanyuan’s face immediately flushed red. She dared not simply climb onto Yuchi Yishu’s back in front of so many people. Moreover, this was his school. If anyone were to witness this scene, it would be embarrassing.
“Oh-ho~” Other than Zhong Chufeng, the other two roommates teased them too. This made Tang Yuanyuan’s face even redder. She reached out and tugged Yuchi Yishu’s shirt and said, “Let’s go, Yishu.”
“Yuan, are you shy? Please don’t worry because we’re not laughing at you. It’s just that we couldn’t contain our laughter as we haven’t seen this gentle side of him before.”
Yuchi Yishu wanted to piggyback her since she came all the way here alone during noontime and must have felt tired and thirsty. He’d be sorry for her if he let her walk by herself again. It could be said that he’d been spoiling her since she was young. “Let’s go.”
Yuchi Yishu stepped out while Tang Yuanyuan grabbed onto the hem of his shirt; as though she was his tail, she followed him out. Before she headed out—as if she had thought of something—she secretly turned around to peep at the rest of the people. “I’ll be going off now. Goodbye everyone.”
“Goodbye, Yuan. Stay safe!”
After Tang Yuanyuan had exited their dormitory, both of Yuchi Yishu’s roommates looked each other in the eyes and placed their hands under their chin.
“Yishu’s sister is too adorable. By the looks of it, she seems to be a nice girl.”
“What are you talking about?” Zhong Chufeng chimed in and continued on chiding, “You guys are not allowed to take advantage of her.”
“What do you mean by that, Zhong Chufeng?”
Both of his roommates squinted at Zhong Chufeng while observing him. “Are you having thoughts about that young lady? My goodness, you’re even worse than a monster!”
Upon hearing this, his face turned dark with anger. “How am I a monster?”
“I can’t believe you like his sister. By the looks of it, she’s just a middle school student. That’s really too much of you, Zhong Chufeng!”
“That’s right! I can’t believe you’d target a middle school student!”
Sharing the same hatred, both of his roommates glared at Zhong Chufeng furiously.
Zhong Chufeng became speechless, yet happy at the same time, after he heard the compliments they had for Tang Yuanyuan. However, these two feelings contradicted each other and he had no choice but to explain to his roommates with an angry expression, “Who told you she’s a middle school student? She’s already a high school student and after the New Year, she’ll become an adult.”
“What?” The both of them were surprised, “She’s almost an adult? But she still looks young.”
Beaming with pride, Zhong Chufeng explained, “That’s because she’s cute.”
“Tsk. Why are you so happy? No matter how adorable she is, she’s not yours. She’s Yuchi Yishu’s.”
“She may not be mine for now, but who knows someday in the future she might be?” Zhong Chufeng was confident about it. Moreover, he was determined to win over Tang Yuanyuan. All these years, he had never thought of liking other girls and was faithfully waiting for her to grow up. What was more absurd was that he had thought that no other woman except for Tang Yuanyuan looked beautiful. No matter how he looked at her, she was always adorable and beautiful to him.
“The future is still uncertain. Looking at you, it seems that you’re really head over heels for her. But what about her brother? Did he agree to let you chase after her?”
Zhong Chufeng was stunned for a moment. Yuchi Yishu did agree to it previously but he wasn’t sure of it anymore after what Yuchi Yishu said to him just now; his words made him uncomfortable. Zhong Chufeng had himself to blame too since Tang Yuanyuan became the person she was today because of him. However, it was unintentional. At the thought of this, he twitched his mouth. “I would still chase after her even if Yuchi Yishu doesn’t agree with it. He’s not even related to her.”
“What?” Both his roommates were puzzled. “They’re not related?”
“Uh-uh.” Zhong Chufeng shook his head and explained, “Both of them just happened to have grown up together from childhood and they call each other brother and sister just for the sake of it.”
“F*ck. They just grew up together but are not related?”
“That’s right.”
“Zhong Chufeng, you’re doomed.”
Zhong Chufeng was puzzled. What do they mean by that? He stared at them, feeling very confused. Both his roommates displayed regretful and pitiful expressions on their face. To be precise, they both showed sympathizing expressions on their faces and said, “Zhong Chufeng, it’s not that we want to dampen your spirits, but we think you might not even stand a chance.”
“That’s right. Since they’re childhood sweethearts who grew up together, do you think you’d stand a chance with her?”
“So what if they grew up together? Their relationship is as pure as it can be,” Zhong Chufeng defended.
“Pure? What you saw was just the surface; have you not seen how dependent the young lady is on Yishu? Just by that alone, you might lose out to him.”
“What’s wrong with being dependent? Being dependent doesn’t mean she likes him.”
“She may not have feelings for him now, but what about the future?”
Suddenly, as if Zhong Chufeng understood their meaning, he looked at his two roommates and pursed his lips.
“It might look like she doesn’t have feelings for him, but what about in the future? Do you think you’ll win against him once she knows what it’s like to have feelings for someone?”
Zhong Chufeng’s heart sank upon hearing this. Indeed, he was no match for Yuchi Yishu in terms of looks, talents, and many other aspects. But if relationships were determined through competition, no one would be able to find partners who are compatible with them. After all, there would always be many outstanding people around. However, to be able to find someone one can be mutually in love with was very hard.
“Bro, it’s not too late to realize this, so please be a little more open-minded and change your feelings for her.”
“He’s right. Even if you don’t want to do so, you should at least spend less time thinking about her and try to look at other women. There are other women out there who are beautiful too.”
Beautiful? Looking at his roommates, Zhong Chufeng became speechless. He then uttered, “What do you know? I like her not because of how she looks.” After he had finished, Zhong Chufeng turned around and left their dormitory.
His roommates just stared speechlessly at each other.
“Is he angry?’
“I think he is.”
“But I think we weren’t wrong. We just wanted to give him a little heads up.”
“Who knows? He might really have feelings for her.”
“She’s just a girl. Does he really like her?”
“Who knows.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1613
On their way back, Tang Yuanyuan held onto Yuchi Yishu’s clothes as they exited the building. Everyone in the boy’s dormitory was curious about them and stuck their heads out to have a look. But since they were afraid of Yuchi Yishu, they hid outside the door to peep at them for a while and retreated.
“Hello, Yuan~”
Amongst them were a few brave ones who greeted her.
Tang Yuanyuan felt very bashful and her blushing face turned even redder after this. She didn’t even dare to greet everyone and could only nod politely at them. After acknowledging them, she immediately averted her gaze and lowered her head as she followed behind Yuchi Yishu.
“Isn’t this girl so adorable? Why isn’t there any girl in our school that is as cute as her? Attending a police academy sure is tough since we can only face a big group of men every day.”
After reaching downstairs and passing by the guardhouse, the security guard, who had previously helped Tang Yuanyuan, was standing at the school entrance.
“Oh, it seems that this time she really is Yuchi Yishu’s younger sister. Before this, I thought it was another girl who liked you and came to give you gifts.”
Yuchi Yishu pursed his lips and said, “Thank you, sir.”
“There’s no need to thank me. Are you sending her home after she came all the way here to find you?”
Yuchi Yishu responded, “I’m sending her back to school.”
“Alright. Have a safe journey then.”
“Thank you, sir; goodbye.”
“Young lady, you’re welcome to visit your brother next time. The next time you visit, I’ll be sure to let you in immediately.”
“Thank you, sir.”
After that, the security guard saw them off. After a while, under a huge tree not far from the school’s entrance, Yuchi Yishu squatted in front of Tang Yuanyuan and patted on his shoulders, signaling her to get on his back.
She stood there hesitantly, shaking her head as she mumbled something.
However, Yuchi Yishu did not get up and remained squatting. The young lady then said something again, but soon surrendered to him as she obediently wrapped her arms around his neck and climbed onto his back.
Yuchi Yishu then stood up with the two boxes in one hand while his other hand supported her.
Witnessing this scene, the security guard shook his head. Previously, he had known this boy as a cold-hearted person. No matter how many girls gave him presents, he would ultimately express disinterest in them. But to his surprise, he got to see the gentle side of him.
It was noon when Tang Yuanyuan lay on Yuchi Yishu’s back as the blazing sun showed no mercy and shined on them. Not long after, he started sweating as he continued carrying Tang Yuanyuan on his back.
She was also sweating when she came by to visit, but not as much as now. After a little while, her clothes turned soaking wet because of Yuchi Yishu and an odd expression suddenly showed on her face.
She then puckered her small lips, wanting to say something. However, as soon as the words reached her mouth, she swallowed them back because Yuchi Yishu chose to walk on a more cooling route while he carried her.
Tang Yuanyuan obediently lay on his back and softly asked, “Yishu, are you tired?”
Yuchi Yishu didn’t feel breathless at all. Instead, he chuckled and gently answered, “You’re not that heavy, so why would I be tired?”
“Oh? Because… I’m very heavy.”
Although she was always trying to lose weight during this period and managed to do so successfully, her weight was still heavier than the girls with slender bodies. “At my school, all the girls around my height weigh around 120 pounds.”
As for Tang Yuanyuan’s weight, it would be an embarrassing thing for her to say it out loud. However, her weight wasn’t always a concern for her back when she didn’t care about it at all.
Now that she had started to care about her weight, she realized that she was depressingly heavy.
“You’re different from them,” Yuchi Yishu said with a gentle tone. “You don’t have to pursue that kind of weight.”
“No, I’m not pursuing it.”
I just wanted to slim down so that when I stand beside you, we’d look more compatible, and when we take pictures together, my face could appear smaller, Tang Yuanyuan thought to herself.
“You’ve become so much lighter than before.”
Yuchi Yishu had only said this one sentence after some time had passed.
After some thinking, he added, “Your weight is just nice. You don’t have to slim down any further.”
Tang Yuanyuan knew that Yuchi Yishu wouldn’t lie to her and he meant what he said about her weight. However, the ‘just nice’ that he meant was based on his own perspective and not others.
In fact, he said it because he was afraid that it would be too difficult for her and it would cause damage to her body; it was not because he agreed with her weight.
Although the journey to weight loss was difficult for Tang Yuanyuan, she felt happy about it.
“Okay,” Tang Yuanyuan answered. She then quietly held onto him a little tighter while placing her cheek on his back.
The young lady’s intimate action made Yuchi Yishu pause slightly. He felt like something had stirred inside his heart, which had caused his heart to soften.
His thin lips curled slightly upward, “To be honest, there are many people with different opinions on this earth. However, we don’t have to care about their opinions, be it good or evil. As long as you listen to your heart and do whatever you think is right, you’ll be fine.”
“Okay.” Tang Yuanyuan nodded and softly added, “I am listening to what my heart desires.”
If she did not like Yuchi Yishu, even if An Qian said that she was fat and ugly, Tang Yuanyuan would not mind at all. Now that An Qian had mentioned it, whenever she took a picture with Yuchi Yishu, she would subconsciously feel that she was too fat to suit him.
“That’s great,” Yuchi Yishu commented.
“The weather’s too hot. Let’s take the train instead of the bus.”
“I’ll follow you,” Tang Yuanyuan replied.
After reaching the train station, it gradually got more crowded. Tang Yuanyuan tugged on Yuchi Yishu’s collar and said, “There are too many people here; you can put me down now.”
“Just lay on my back and sleep for a while.”
“But…”
“I’m carrying my own sister. What can others say about this? Didn’t you promise me just now that you’ll listen to your heart? You’re tired and sleepy but you’re still concerned about how others look at you?”
He has a point.
Tang Yuanyuan found herself unable to rebuke him.
“Okay; I’ll sleep for a while. Please wake me up when we reach the station.”
“Alright. I’m here for you, so you can sleep now.”
‘I’m here for you’. These words were enough for Tang Yuanyuan to let her guard down.
Lying on Yuchi Yishu’s back, she soon fell asleep.
However, she had only rested for a while before they arrived at the train station.
In order to pass through the train station, they had to swipe their cards and each ticket barrier allowed only one person to pass through at a time. Since Tang Yuanyuan was not a child anymore, she had to come down and go through it by herself.
Yuchi Yishu glanced at Tang Yuanyuan, who was sleeping soundly on his back. After thinking for a moment, he woke her up.
“Yuanyuan?”
Just as Tang Yuanyuan opened her eyes, she noticed people looking at her from the side.
“Come down for a while to go through the ticket barrier.”
“Oh, okay.”
Tang Yuanyuan slid down from Yuchi Yishu’s back and followed him through the ticket barrier.
After that, she was unwilling to be carried by him anymore. Initially, he wanted to ask her to climb onto his back again, but his offer was refused by her.
He lowered his head and glanced at her helplessly, but uncomfortably averted his gaze after glancing at her.
A moment later, Yuchi Yishu took off his jacket and said, “Wear this.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1614
As both of them had sweated profusely from the walk, the air conditioners in the train station gave off a cooling breeze which helped them cooled down.
Tang Yuanyuan had felt comfortable from the cool breeze especially on a warm sunny day like this. But suddenly, Yishu passed her his jacket. Thinking that Yuchi Yishu was afraid that she’ll be cold, she shook her head and said, “It’s okay Yishu; I’m not cold.”
Yuchi Yishu glanced at her and stopped in his tracks. “Whoever said that you’re cold?”
“Yishu?” Tang Yuanyuan looked up at him with a puzzled face. If I’m not cold, then why would he give me his jacket?
She did not understand his actions at all.
“Don’t ask any more questions and just wear the jacket.”
Seeing how she did not take his jacket, Yuchi Yishu simply went toward her and placed his jacket on her. His jacket was dark brown. Furthermore, he had a wider and taller body frame than her. Hence, when the jacket was placed on Tang Yuanyuan, it managed to cover her bottom too.
Tang Yuanyuan froze for a moment. Her shirt had the smell of Yuchi Yishu’s sweat but she did not hate it at all. Instead, her face blushed slightly. However, when she lowered her head, she suddenly noticed something.
Along the way, she had been lying on Yuchi Yishu’s back and this had caused the front of her shirt to become soaking wet. The front of her shirt was now a little transparent and the outline of her camisole was visible.
“Ah!” Tang Yuanyuan did not hold back and screamed out of embarrassment as she reached out to cover her small face.
She felt shameful; she had totally forgotten about the incident just now and must have looked unpresentable. Otherwise, Yuchi Yishu would not have given her his jacket. She felt like a fool for assuming that Yishu offered his jacket because he was afraid of her getting a cold.
“Alright, let’s go now.” Yuchi Yishu pretended like nothing had happened and walked forward while pulling her along. During this time, the train station was crowded with people. Even after boarding the train, they could not find a place to sit so Yuchi Yishu could only pull the young lady to face him as they stood.
“If you’re sleepy, you can hug me while you rest for a while.”
“No, it’s okay. I’m not sleepy.” Tang Yuanyuan shook her head. It would feel odd for her to hug him while she slept. Besides, she had taken a quick nap just now and was wide-awake.
Since they would not be getting off until the last station, they did not take notice of which station they were at.
Yuchi Yishu reached out to guard her back. “Don’t worry; I won’t let you fall.”
Tang Yuanyuan vigorously nodded her head while half-leaning on him to fall asleep. But when she turned her head around, she saw something strange.
Not far from them stood a lady who was being harassed by a portly, middle-aged man.
Taking advantage of the crowded area, the man deliberately leaned his body on the beautiful lady. During his first attempt, she furrowed her eyebrows as she tried to avoid him. Nevertheless, she couldn’t avoid him as the train was too crowded.
When the portly, middle-aged man saw that there were no reactions from the lady, he continued to rub up against her.
Not being able to withstand any longer, the lady turned her head around to stare at the middle-aged man. However, he had a poker face plastered on him and acted as though nothing had happened.
After the lady had turned away, with an expressionless face, the middle-aged man continued to rub up against her.
Tang Yuanyuan did not understand why he had to do this to the lady, but she was sure of one thing—his actions were making the lady uncomfortable. At one point, the lady even glared at him but he continued on with his unscrupulous act.
Tang Yuanyuan blinked and tugged on the hem of Yuchi Yishu’s clothes.
“What’s wrong?” Yuchi Yishu lowered his head and asked the young lady.
Tang Yuanyuan raised her head and looked at him with her bright eyes. “Yishu, look over there.”
She pointed toward the left behind him and Yuchi Yishu looked toward the direction she was pointing at. Just as he looked over, the middle-aged man was placing his hands onto the lady’s waist. Although the lady showed a furious expression on her face, she dared not to move.
“That man looks like he’s doing a lot of things to make that lady feel uncomfortable.”
Tang Yuanyuan had witnessed the entire incident.
Yuchi Yishu’s face turned dark with anger and the atmosphere around him turned chilly. He pursed his lips, turned Tang Yuanyuan’s head around, and instructed, “Don’t look. Stand still.”
“Okay.” Tang Yuanyuan nodded. Noticing the pole by her side, she leaned onto it while she wrapped both her hands around it.
After Yuchi Yishu made sure she had stood properly, he slowly turned around and fixed his gaze onto the portly, middle-aged man.
Everyone beside them did not react to the situation at all. Some who were not aware of it were playing on their phones while those who saw it pretended they had not noticed anything unusual.
These sorts of incidents were common on the train. Besides, people are cold toward one another nowadays. Seeing how the ones who were being harassed did not respond at all, they did not bother as well.
Unaware that he was already being targeted, the middle-aged man continued harassing the lady.
At the very next second, he was being kicked by someone.
After the man fell, screams and panic from the crowd followed. A small space was formed in the middle of the train from which was previously a crowded area.
“What happened?”
“Why did you hit someone out of the blue?”
The lady who was previously harassed was caught by surprise and swiftly hid to the side. When she turned around, she saw Yuchi Yishu with a cold expression while he withdrew his leg.
As she was hugging the pole, Tang Yuanyuan’s heart was beating vigorously—not because she was shocked from the incident, but because she thought Yishu’s action made him look even more charming.
She had never expected Yishu to make a move at all. Having said that, Yishu had been studying in a police academy after all. Even though he was already a righteous man before, the way he struck at the man made him even more handsome in her eyes.
It took the middle-aged man quite some time to gain consciousness after he fell. When he stood up again, he pointed at Yuchi Yishu and said, “What are you trying to do? Beating up an old man on the train? I’ll make sure to call the police to arrest you.”
“Old man?” Yuchi Yishu sneered.
Meanwhile, people looking from the side hurriedly fished out their phones to record the incident.
“That’s right. I’ll call the police now.”
After the middle-aged man stood up, he took out his phone and was ready to call the police. All of a sudden, Yuchi Yishu, who was standing in front of him just a moment ago, mysteriously made his way behind the man. He then grabbed the man by his wrist and with sharp movements, arrested him and pressed him against the floor.
There was a thump as the middle-aged man’s phone fell to the ground. After some thinking, Tang Yuanyuan swiftly ran toward them and picked up his phone while she chastised, “You’re an evil person. I saw how you kept touching the lady’s waist just now. Even if we called the police, you would be the one that would be arrested.”
After hearing Tang Yuanyuan’s explanation, the onlookers, who were previously confused as to why Yuchi Yishu had struck the man, became aware of the incident.
“What a shameless man! How dare he harass someone on the train?”
“Do you have a daughter, sir? What would you do if one day your daughter was harassed by someone on the train?”
“Thank goodness this handsome, young man was brave enough to stand up for what’s right. Young man, you have great skills.”
Yuchi Yishu was clear-eyed when his gaze swept across the crowd. With a cold yet authoritative voice, he instructed, “Everyone, please delete all the videos you have taken.”
The crowd had initially wanted to praise him; unexpectedly, they were being ordered to delete the videos.
Seeing how Yuchi Yishu had great skills and was serious about it, not to mention that fierce glare he had, the crowd lowered their heads in silence as they deleted the videos.
“Call the police,” Yuchi Yishu gently said as he looked toward Tang Yuanyuan.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1615
After Tang Yuanyuan came back to her senses, she used the middle-aged man’s phone to call the police.
The man had never expected the both of them to be so forceful, so he subconsciously begged them for forgiveness. “I beg you; please don’t call the police. I have a family waiting for me at home. I’m sorry; it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have harassed the lady.”
The man pointed toward the lady but she subconsciously evaded and did not dare to meet his gaze at all.
Being harassed was deemed a shameful thing, so the lady dared not to rebuke the man. Now, she didn’t even dare to admit that she was being harassed.
The onlookers looked at the lady as her face turned red out of embarrassment in the very next second.
“Why is everyone looking at me? I have no idea what happened.”
After saying this, she looked toward the middle-aged man and scolded, “You’re the one who’s being hit. It has nothing to do with me at all, so don’t simply point at me!”
The middle-aged man was stunned by her words. He had not expected her to say something like that at all.
Tang Yuanyuan, who was more innocent, explained in a soft voice, “But I just saw—”
“What did you see?” The lady interrupted her words, “What do you understand; you little b*tch? It’s so crowded on the train that it’s a normal thing when someone accidentally touches you. What’s it to you that you have to talk about all this nonsense?”
The lady had a loud voice and a fierce face that scared Tang Yuanyuan.
For a moment, Tang Yuanyuan stood there dumbfounded and could not react at all.
The middle-aged man then took the opportunity to sneer at them, “The both of you haven’t even figured out the whole situation, and yet you want to be heroes? You said you wanted to call the police right? Go ahead; I’m not afraid of you.”
“Do you think you’ll be fine just because she denied what you did?”
Yuchi Yishu’s gaze was cold as he reminded him, “It seems like she couldn’t make it clear.”
He turned his gaze toward Yuanyuan and asked, “Have you called the police?”
Tang Yuanyuan shook her head and added, “That lady said…”
“Don’t worry; just call the police. There are CCTVs installed on the train.”
Yuchi Yishu’s face was indifferent as he continued, “If both parties have different versions of the story, the police will check the CCTV footage. Alas, the results will still be the same whether they’re willing to confess or not.”
The middle-aged man’s complacent look was still plastered on his face.
If they managed to obtain the CCTV footage and made this into a big issue, this entire incident might appear on the news or even on the internet.
With this, the people around began to discuss it.
“Lady, someone is helping you out now. It’s fine if you don’t thank her, but now you have the guts to be angry at that young lady and deny the entire incident. Are you trying to set her up for injustice?” One of the elders spoke to the lady as he couldn’t bear it anymore.
The lady’s face blushed even harder and she kept quiet. If they really were to obtain the footage, she would certainly have no way of escaping anymore. However, the lady initially thought that after saying those words, nothing more would happen to both sides. She did not expect the young man to be so serious about such matters.
“Lady, try looking at this young man’s skill and age; you can roughly guess that he’s from the police academy. If you were to lie to him…”
Police academy… The lady lifted her head and looked toward Yuchi Yishu.
He seemed to have pinned the man down effortlessly while the man could not move at all no matter how hard he tried. By the looks of his skills and strength, the lady’s face turned pale as she finally bit her lower lip and said, “I’m sorry; it was my fault. I did not admit to it in the first place because I didn’t want others to look at me in a different way.”
Tang Yuanyuan was hurt by the lady’s words as she looked at her disappointingly.
She did not expect the person that she helped would come back to bite her. If Yuchi Yishu did not mention that the CCTV footage could serve as evidence, or if it was not because of the rapid technological advancements of this era, she worried that even with a mouth, she would not be able to prove anything.
Tang Yuanyuan did not speak a word to that lady but walked to Yuchi Yishu’s side. She then pulled his sleeves and called out, “Yishu.”
Yuchi Yishu looked at her and released the middle-aged man. After the man stood up, Yuchi Yishu returned him his phone.
“Thank you so much. Thank you for letting me go. I won’t do that ever again.”
“Call the police and surrender yourself,” Yuchi Yishu coldly and unexpectedly said.
“What?” The middle-aged man was stunned and remained in his position. He thought he had been let off the hook but did not expect that he had to surrender himself to the police. For a moment, he could not react at all.
In the end, he looked around him and saw that everyone was staring at him.
“Criminal charges are different depending on whether you surrender yourself or if someone reports you to the police,” Yuchi Yishu cold-heartedly reminded the man.
The man had no choice but to call the police. After listening to him confess his crimes to the police, Yuchi Yishu brought Yuanyuan back to his side.
After the incident, the train soon returned to its calm state. This entire incident had caused Tang Yuanyuan’s drowsiness to disappear completely. Just then, a young man beside them stood up and said, “Young lady, come and have a seat here.”
Tang Yuanyuan turned her head around, looked him in the eye, and noticed that it was the man who had spoken on their behalf. She then shook her head. “It’s fine.”
“You’re still young but you’re already brave enough to stand up for what’s right. I’ve reserved this seat specially for you, so come over and have a seat.”
The man saw how tired she was and willingly offered his seat to her.
However, Tang Yuanyuan shook her head persistently.
She was not a child anymore. In fact, she was about to become a grown-up soon and did not need others to offer her a seat.
The man had already stood up even before she even walked over, but since she did not come over to sit, the man did not return to his seat either.
Yuchi Yishu thought for a moment and nudged Yuanyuan.
“Since the man kindly offered you his seat, you should take it.”
Tang Yuanyuan looked up at him for a moment, then she bowed to the man. “Thank you.”
She then proceeded to sit down.
After she sat down, the man gave Yuchi Yishu a thumbs up. “Not bad, young man. Nowadays, there aren’t many people who would dare to stand up for what’s right. Not only are people coldhearted these days, just by looking at the incident just now, you can see that many people who come up to help would get hurt in return. As a result, not many people dare to lend a helping hand anymore.”
Yuchi Yishu did not reply to the man.
The man then continued, “Was that your little girlfriend just now? She’s lovely. Both of you are so kind-hearted.”
Little girlfriend?
Upon hearing this, Yuchi Yishu furrowed his brows slightly. Seeing Tang Yuanyuan, he became embarrassed as he pursed his thin lips. “No.”
“No? Have I misunderstood your relationship?”
“She’s my younger sister,” Yuchi Yishu explained softly.
“Oh, I see. I’m sorry.” The man waved his hand awkwardly.
However, Tang Yuanyuan had heard their conversation. Initially, she had an awkward expression when she heard the man asking the question. She was wondering why the man would ask such a question, until she heard Yuchi Yishu’s denial.
After hearing him explain to the man that she was his younger sister, Tang Yuanyuan’s heart sank a little.
In fact, there was nothing wrong with what he had said—they weren’t a couple after all. However, inexplicably, Tang Yuanyuan’s heart felt uncomfortable.
She took off her shoes and placed her feet on the chair, burying her face into her knees as she shut her eyes.
Forget it; I shouldn’t have eavesdropped. All she needed to do now was concentrate on him with all her heart.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1616
Halfway through, the middle-aged man, who had surrendered himself, got off the train. Perhaps he went to turn himself into the police.
On the other hand, Tang Yuanyuan had leaned back on the chair; she was wide awake until they reached their stop.
After exiting the train station, she took off the jacket that was on her and returned it to Yuchi Yishu.
Throughout the entire journey, her shirt had dried up, so she no longer needed to wear his jacket.
Yuchi Yishu reached out to receive his jacket and placed the jacket over his shoulders. “We can just take the cab since we’re still some ways away from your school.”
“It’s okay, Yishu. You don’t have to send me back; I can return to school by myself.”
“I’ve already called a cab. It’ll be here soon.”
In fact, he had already booked a cab when they had almost reached the train station and had already organized everything. Yuchi Yishu proceeded to tap on Tang Yuanyuan’s shoulders and said, “Let’s go; I’ll send you over to your school.”
“But Yishu, don’t you have class in the afternoon? If you send me back, wouldn’t you be late for class?”
“No, I won’t. Don’t worry.”
In the end, Yuchi Yishu managed to send Tang Yuanyuan back to school safely.
“Go on ahead, and take these things with you.”
“Okay. Thank you, Yishu. You should hurry back to your class too.”
Yuchi Yishu smiled gently. “I’ll see you off.”
As she walked back, Tang Yuanyuan kept turning back until she returned to her dormitory. Once Yuchi Yishu couldn’t see Tang Yuanyuan anymore, he left.
Because the class was about to start, there was not a single person in the dormitory. Tang Yuanyuan could only put the things back in the dormitory first before she headed for class.
Tang Yuanyuan managed to hurry to her class at the last minute. Her desk mate saw that she was covered in sweat and asked, “Yuanyuan, where have you been the entire afternoon? Why have you only returned now?”
Tang Yuanyuan stuck her tongue out and whispered, “I had something to do just now, so I went out. I’ve just returned to school.”
“You’d be late if you came in any later since the teacher is about to start the class soon.”
She was right; if Tang Yuanyuan was just a little bit later, she would have been called out by her teacher. Fortunately, she made it on time.
After their class, Tang Yuanyuan suddenly thought of the presents that were left at the dormitory and needed to return to give Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan an explanation.
She hurriedly packed her books and went back to their dormitory.
Just when she had arrived at the dormitory, Tang Yuanyuan noticed that both Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan had already returned and were applying face masks. Seeing that Tang Yuanyuan had returned, both of them then displeasedly questioned her, “Yuanyuan, we saw you taking the gifts out just now. Why are the gifts back here again?”
Tang Yuanyuan felt a little awkward and said, “I’m sorry. I did pass Yishu your gifts, but he didn’t want to accept them.”
“What? Why didn’t he accept the gifts?”
Yuan Yuehan immediately stood up. She was agitated to the point where her mask almost fell off.
She had only calmed down when Zhang Xiaolu glanced at her.
“Yuanyuan, did Yishu not want the gifts, or did you not help deliver them to him? Honestly, you don’t have to worry at all. Someday, one of us might become your sister-in-law, and even so, we wouldn’t rob him away from you. We will treat you as well as how Yishu treats you and by then, you would have an additional person to spoil you.”
Another person to spoil her? She didn’t want that at all.
But of course, Tang Yuanyuan did not speak those words.
She only explained in a serious tone, “When I promised you that I’ll help you deliver your gifts, I actually did it. I will never break my promise. I had walked for a long time just now, but Yishu said that he wouldn’t accept gifts from anyone.”
“Why is that?”
Tang Yuanyuan thought of Zhang Xiaolu’s question. She then pursed her lips and said, “There are just too many girls who want to give Yishu gifts. It’d be impossible for him to accept all the gifts; so, if he were to accept only one person’s gift, it would be unfair to the others. That’s why he doesn’t accept anyone’s gifts.”
Zhang Xiaolu did not believe what she said. “Did he say all that himself?”
Tang Yuanyuan clenched onto the hem of her shirt. “Chufeng told me this.”
“The guy that’s always with Yishu?”
Zhang Xiaolu narrowed her eyes as she recalled that Zhong Chufeng was indeed a very talkative person. He even invited them for supper the other night and whenever that fellow saw Tang Yuanyuan, his eyes would shine brightly and his intentions would become obvious.
What Tang Yuanyuan said was probable if Zhong Chufeng was the one that said those words.
Zhang Xiaolu gave her a light smile and asked, “Was Yishu by his side when Zhong Chufeng said those words?”
Tang Yuanyuan nodded. “Yes, Yishu heard everything. All of it.”
“And he didn’t say anything? Or did you not help put in some good words for us? It’s okay if he doesn’t accept other people’s gifts, but we’re not strangers to him. Since he spoils you a lot, can’t you help us to put in a good word?”
“That’s right Yuanyuan.” Yuan Yuehan added, “Your brother looks like a cold-hearted person. Is it because he doesn’t like communicating with other people? Can you please help us by putting in a good word for us? We mean no harm at all; we just like him.”
Their words put Tang Yuanyuan in a difficult position; her lips moved a little and she helplessly said, “I’m sorry but I’ve already helped you deliver the gifts. However, my brother just won’t accept them and I can’t help you any further.”
Upon finishing her sentence, Tang Yuanyuan added, “But if you really don’t believe me, you can deliver the gifts yourselves next time.”
“I’d like to go for a jog now, so I’ll be going off.” Tang Yuanyuan left the dormitory before waiting for the both of them to reply.
Before Yuan Yuehan and Zhang Xiaolu could call out to her, Tang Yuanyuan had already run out.
“What was that all about?” Zhang Xiaolu felt exasperated as she kicked over the gifts. “She thinks she can be arrogant just because she’s his sister? She’s already this crazy when she isn’t even related to him. Imagine if she were actually related to him; wouldn’t she be even more domineering?”
Yuan Yuehan remained silent.
With a pale look, she stared at Zhang Xiaolu and softly said, “Could it be that Yishu really doesn’t accept gifts at all. Just think about it; she carried our gifts all the way to find his brother after class. The time she took to visit him and return was long and when she came back, she was almost late to class.”
“What about it?” Zhang Xiaolu stared at her in an amused manner. “Yuehan, how can you be so easily fooled by her? She indeed carried the gifts with her when she went out, but did you witness her passing the gifts to him? She could have made up all those stories.”
Yuan Yuehan answered, “I don’t think she would do something like that. She seems like an honest person and a pushover.”
“Maybe this is just her outer appearance? She might be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Perhaps she likes Yuchi Yishu too, so she pretended to be his sister to keep all the girls away from him.”
“Is that so?” Yuan Yuehan may have hated Meng Kefei, but she did not share this disdain for Tang Yuanyuan. Although she disliked Tang Yuanyuan, she didn’t regard her as an enemy like Zhang Xiaolu did.
After all, they had interacted for more than a semester and she could roughly guess her character.
“Yuehan, are you doubting my judgment? If you don’t believe me, why don’t you try delivering the gifts to her brother yourself?”
“I think I will. If it’s really like what you said—that she wasn’t willing to help us—then it’ll be better off sending it ourselves.”
“Talk is cheap, Yuehan. You don’t even know where he studies.”
“Isn’t that easy to bypass? We’ll invite Yuanyuan out for a meal and have her bring along Yishu. By then, we can pass him the gifts in front of everyone.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1617
Zhang Xiaolu did not think of any alternatives until she heard Yuan Yuehan’s idea, which she thought was feasible. She flashed a sly smile as she looked at Yuan Yuehan.
“Yuehan, why haven’t I ever noticed how smart you are? This idea is much better than asking Yuanyuan to deliver the gift for us. Besides, if we deliver it ourselves, Yishu will then know who the gift is from. It makes it easier for him to make a choice later, doesn’t it?” Zhang Xiaolu ran her hand through her long hair as she finished the sentence. Then, she continued connivingly, “But I have to say this—if Yuchi Yishu ends up choosing me over you, please don’t try to steal him away from me. We’ve already made a promise with each other that there’ll be no competition and envy no matter who he chooses in the end.”
Yuan Yuehan was disgusted by Zhang Xiaolu’s arrogance and she rolled her eyes silently at her while maintaining a smiley face. “Xiaolu, don’t worry. If this happens between me and someone else, I’ll never give up the man I love to that person. But it’s different with you—you will be my forever be my bestie.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“So, about this plan—when should we do it?”
“We need to first come up with a good excuse; otherwise, all our effort will go to waste if Tang Yuanyuan refuses to invite Yishu out.”
“You’re right. Are there any special occasions coming up?”
All of a sudden, Yuan Yuehan beamed as an idea came to her. “Oh, Xiaolu, isn’t your birthday around the corner?”
Zhang Xiaolu was puzzled. “My birthday?”
“Yes. Your birthday is coming up on the 5th of next month. How could you forget about your birthday?”
Zhang Xiaolu had a tinge of emotion as she looked Yuan Yuehan in the eye; she looked down and softly said, “Had you not reminded me, I would’ve really forgotten about it. Thank you for remembering my birthday.”
“Don’t mention it. We’re besties after all.” Yuan Yuehan came up to Zhang Xiaolu and hugged her. “I guess we’ll wait until your birthday next month to ask him out then?”
“Yes. We can even invite him to celebrate my birthday. It would be better if we could also get a picture together.”
Zhang Xiaolu began to daydream.
After running a few laps on the field, Tang Yuanyuan was sweating profusely. Strangely, she felt that something was not right as she had not been feeling well while she was running. It was as if she could hardly catch her breath.
No. I have to push myself.
She then clenched her teeth and began to speed up.
One last lap. After this, I’ll grab a bite in the kitchen and get some rest.
Just a little more.
Push yourself a little more. Just a few more minutes. You’re almost there. These were things Tang Yuanyuan would tell herself every time she felt like giving up. And it worked all the time, including today.
All of a sudden, she felt that her surroundings had become quiet and turned dark. Before she realized it, she had passed out.
Bang!
Just like that, Tang Yuanyuan passed out on the field.
Just a couple of minutes ago, a few boys who were playing basketball on the field were still talking about her.
“Look; that fat girl is here running again.”
“She’s so determined. We play basketball here every day and we see her here every day. I suppose she should’ve lost a lot of weight by now, right? If everyone who wants to lose weight is as determined as her, obesity will soon cease to exist.”
“What do you guys think—do you think she’s just trying to lose weight, or is she trying to catch our attention? Is there someone from our team that she’s attracted to?”
“Hahahaha.”
They broke out into laughter.
Suddenly, one of them yelled, “What’s going on?”
The rest of them turned to the direction where Tang Yuanyuan was—the determined girl had just passed out on the tracks.
“What the f*ck? Did she pass out?”
These boys had been paying attention to Tang Yuanyuan because of her fair complexion, pretty looks, and her determination.
So, upon discovering that she had passed out, they quickly ditched the basketballs in their hands and ran toward Tang Yuanyuan.
“Do you know what’s wrong?”
“I suppose she overexerted herself. Low blood sugar level.”
“And this hot weather certainly doesn’t help. Let’s send her to the school clinic.”
The tallest guy in the group helped her up right away by carrying her in his arms while the others followed him. Together, they quickly sent her to the school clinic.
“Is she heavy?”
“You son of a b*tch. This is an emergency. How can you still be asking this dumb question? I’ll whack you.”
“Ha. It’s low blood sugar. She will wake up in no time after getting some rest.”
At the school clinic, the doctor was startled when this group of boys rushed into the clinic.
“Doctor, this girl passed out all of a sudden on the field when we were playing basketball,” one of the boys commented.
“Bring her over and let me have a look,” the doctor responded.
At this point, while unconscious, Tang Yuanyuan’s face and lips turned extremely pale and she was drenched in a cold sweat.
After a checkup, the doctor remarked, “She has probably had a heatstroke and her blood sugar level is low. You guys can wait outside; there’s not enough air circulation with all of you in here.”
Just like that, this group of boys was chased out of the school clinic.
“Let’s leave her here and get back to basketball.”
Smack!
Someone smacked him on his back the moment he finished his sentence. “Are you a moron? We have just saved her life. We should at least wait until she wakes up and tell her who we are so that she can get to know us.”
“What for?”
“Now I know why you are still single. Girls like her who are so pure and simple-minded are hard to come by these days. Getting to know one means getting a chance to date one. Do you understand?”
“He’s right. Even though she’s alone right now, she definitely has roommates. They are all young girls.”
Tang Yuanyuan found herself in the school clinic when she woke up, and it was already dark outside.
She saw a doctor, who was a gentle lady.
“Little girl, you are finally awake.”
Feeling somewhat confused, Tang Yuanyuan sat up with the support of her arms.
“Hello. May I know what happened to me?”
“The boys from the basketball court brought you here. They said you passed out on the running tracks. I did some checkups and found that you had a heatstroke and your blood sugar level is low.”
Heatstroke and low blood sugar level?
Could it be because of the hot weather and the overexertion?
“Please remember that losing weight is a gradual process, and there is no quick solution when it comes to it. Don’t try too hard that you end up harming yourself.”
Tang Yuanyuan thought she was not trying to find a quick solution, and there had not been any problems in the past when she exercised. It was probably the hot weather and the overexertion that caused her to pass out today.
At this juncture, Tang Yuanyuan let out a smile. “Thank you, miss. I feel okay now.”
“Get some more rest and drink this glass of glucose before you head back,” the doctor recommended.
“By the way, miss, where are those people who sent me here?”
“They waited for you outside for a long time, but you weren’t awake yet. In the end, they left.”
In Tang Yuanyuan’s heart, she decided that she had to thank them tomorrow.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1618
The next day, after Tang Yuanyuan got out of school, she did not head straight to the field. On the other hand, she went to the stall at the school entrance, bought more than ten bottles of water, put them in a bag, and headed to the field.
Before she arrived at the field, the few boys at the basketball court were joking with each other, “Do you think that girl from yesterday will show up today?”
“I’m not sure. Since she wasn’t feeling well yesterday, I reckon she might not choose to run today. She probably needs a few days to recover. Besides, we don’t know what time she woke up last night.”
“If she’s not coming for a run, she should at least come and thank us, shouldn’t she?”
“Come on. Do you help people just to be appreciated? Don’t be that kind of person.”
Sigh.
“Hey, look over there. Guess who’s here?”
When Tang Yuanyuan showed up on the field, this group of boys was stunned.
“She’s here. She’s really here.”
“What is it that she’s carrying in her hands? That huge bag looks heavy. I can’t tell what’s in there.”
“What the f*k. Is she bringing us gifts to thank us for our help yesterday?”
As Tang Yuanyuan approached them, the pink cheeks on her fair face became visible and she looked adorable.
“Dude, I think I’ve just fallen in love.”
” I never knew that girls that were a bit plump could look so adorable.”
“She’s here. Stop talking nonsense.”
Finally, Tang Yuanyuan arrived at where they were with a bag.
“Hello everyone.”
Standing in front of Tang Yuanyuan, these boys, who were just joking and laughing loudly seconds earlier, had now become extremely nervous, not even knowing how to position their hands.
“H-Hello.”
“I was on the running tracks yesterday. After I passed out, the doctor told me you guys sent me to the school clinic. Is that right?”
“Yes, we did, but there’s no need for you to come and thank us. We just happened to be here for basketball, and there was no way we could leave you there when we saw you pass out.”
“Thanks, guys.”
Tang Yuanyuan squatted down in front of them and opened the bag. “Here’s some water for you guys.”
After seeing that it was bottled water in the bag, more than ten no less, they instantly felt embarrassed.
“So these are what you were carrying when you were walking all the way here. Actually, you can just thank us; there’s no need for you to buy us water.”
“He’s right. It was no big deal for us to help you.”
Tang Yuanyuan pursed her lips. “Anyway, I still want to thank you guys, so I bought you guys some water today. If we can find another time, I’ll buy you guys a meal to express my sincerity.”
Being treated to a meal by a beautiful school mate was a dream to many young boys. As much as they would like to accept her offer, to avoid scaring her away, they indirectly responded, “You don’t have to buy us a meal. We can have a meal together, but it shouldn’t be on you. And there are so many of us; it wouldn’t be nice of us to let you pay.”
“It’s okay. I can afford it.”
Reckoning that they might not want her to spend so much money as fellow students, to avoid being rejected, Tang Yuanyuan added, “If you’re afraid that I’d spend too much money, how about I have you all over to my family restaurant? How does that sound?”
“Your family?”
“Yes. My family runs a hotel.”
The group of boys was rendered speechless as they did not expect her to come from a wealthy family.
“Please come. This is a token of my appreciation,” Tang Yuanyuan continued. “But perhaps not today as I haven’t called my dad to let him know. What about in two days? I’ll make sure they’re ready before I have you guys over.”
“Sure.”
They were still in awe when they accepted her invitation.
“Thank you. I’ll be on my way now.”
After she left, those boys began to talk among themselves. “Why did you accept her invitation?”
“I wasn’t planning on letting her buy us a meal. But since she said that the hotel was owned by her family, it might have slipped my mind when I accepted her invitation.”
…
That same night, Tang Yuanyuan needed to make a phone call after school.
Since she wanted to lose weight and do well in her studies, she did not have her phone with her; she could only use the phone booth outside of school.
Mr. Tang was surprised to receive her call. “Yuanyuan, you haven’t called me in a while. Also, why are you calling from an unfamiliar number? Are you alright?”
Tang Yuanyuan subconsciously shook her head before realizing that she was on the phone with her father, who could not see what she just did. She then responded, “Nothing happened. I don’t have my phone with me, so I’m using the phone booth at school.”
“I see. Yuanyuan, do you have anything to ask me?”
As the only child of the Tang Family, Tang Yuanyuan was the most precious person to Mr. Tang, who would always speak to Tang Yuanyuan affectionately and with much care.
“Yes, Daddy. I want to buy some schoolmates a meal.”
“That’s good to hear. Schoolmates should cherish each other.”
“But they didn’t want me to spend so much money. So—”
“Don’t worry about that, Yuanyuan. I’ll take care of it. How much do you need? Ten thousand?”
Tang Yuanyuan remained silent.
“Is that not enough?”
“It’s not that it’s not enough, but I was thinking of bringing them to the hotel owned by the company. Is that okay?”
Mr. Tang quickly came to his senses.
“Of course, that’s okay. How is it not okay? Even if my daughter wanted the stars and the moon in the sky, I would definitely try my best to give them to you.”
“Let’s set the date, shall we? If we can get everything ready, I’ll have them over on Saturday.”
“No problem. Anything for you.”
After the phone call, Tang Yuanyuan happened to walk past a convenience store. She could not resist the temptation when she saw the popsicles on the rack. Because of her diet, it had been a while since she ate popsicles. Should I get one as my cheat meal?
If it’s just one, it shouldn’t be a problem.
No. I can’t do this. Even though one popsicle doesn’t contain that many calories, this would definitely not be the last one. I haven’t achieved my desired weight yet. I can’t possibly make any mistakes now.
She swallowed hard and quickly rushed back to school.
When she was back in her dorm, she stood outside her door for a while after seeing that the door was closed. Just as she was about to open it, she heard some discussions.
“When Yuanyuan comes back later, how do we put it in a way that will sound more natural?”
“Just tell her directly. Why do you even have to consider this when it comes to her?”
“Of course, we have to make sure everything tallies. If you don’t sound convincing, she might not buy it. This is our only shot, and we can’t afford to lose it.”
“Just tell her directly that it’s your birthday and you would like to invite her to your birthday party. You can also add that you will be bringing her to meet some good-looking guys at the birthday party. That might work.”
“Who does she think she is? We should forget this plan. Otherwise, what should we do if the guys complain about how fat she is after we make the connections? Hahaha.”
The two began to laugh loudly. Their laughter was like needles piercing Tang Yuanyuan’s heart.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1619
The next day, after Tang Yuanyuan got out of school, she did not head straight to the field. On the other hand, she went to the stall at the school entrance, bought more than ten bottles of water, put them in a bag, and headed to the field.

Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 1620
Tang Yuanyuan had no intentions of attending the birthday party, nor did she want to betray her conscience.
She gave it some thought and then shook her head.
“I still don’t feel like going.”
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan gave each other a look and wondered what was wrong with Tang Yuanyuan. At this point, Zhang Xiaolu’s face dropped. If we can no longer use Tang Yuanyuan to our advantage, why are we still here trying to please her?
“What’s wrong, Yuanyuan?” Yuan Yuehan, the one with the nicer temperament, tried to save the situation out of desperation.
“Yuanyuan, I sincerely want to have you at my birthday party. What’s the reason that you don’t feel like going? Could you please tell me?”
Lips pursed, Tang Yuanyuan did not respond.
Zhang Xiaolu crossed her arms and glanced from the side. “Just tell us. Don’t hide anything.”
These words agitated Tang Yuanyuan, who immediately lifted her head.
“What do you mean by that? Aren’t you guys the ones who are hiding something?”
Meng Kefei did not go to the library; she used that as an excuse to take a walk outside and waited until it was time to go back. When she was at the door, she did not expect to hear Tang Yuanyuan’s voice.
That voice was high-pitched, and it startled Meng Kefei.
Are they fighting?
Meng Kefei’s first instinct was to push the door open, but something quickly came to mind before she could do that. She stopped and stood there, eavesdropping on the situation inside.
“Us? Hiding something?” Zhang Xiaolu let out a sarcastic smile and looked Tang Yuanyuan in the eye. “How are we hiding something? Watch your words.”
“I wasn’t planning on saying this, but if you guys want to force me to say it, I don’t mind.” Tang Yuanyuan pointed at the door. “I was outside earlier, but I didn’t come in. Do you know why?”
Zhang Xiaolu and Yuan Yuehan looked somewhat startled. It seemed like they had both realized something but chose to remain silent, hoping that it was not what they were thinking.
Tang Yuanyuan flashed an indifferent smile.
“I heard everything that you guys said. Are you hoping that I could be at your birthday party, or is it Yishu that you are hoping who could be there?”
Yuan Yuehan responded, “Yuanyuan, you—”
“You don’t need to say anything in response to that. I heard it with my own ears, loud and clear, and it was both of your voices.” Tang Yuanyuan took a deep breath and calmed down.
“I won’t be mad if you dislike me, since no one can be likable to everyone. But since you dislike me, please don’t try to exploit me and say nice things to me. I helped deliver the gift on your behalf after class, even though I don’t like the fact that you guys are giving something to Yishu. Since we are roommates, I was willing to help you out.”
In the end, Tang Yuanyuan looked somewhat downcast. “I thought you guys were my real friends.”
They were just exploiting me.
All of a sudden, Tang Yuanyuan felt that the adult world was so complicated. She hoped she could go back to the elementary or junior high school days when everything seemed simpler and happier. No one would criticize her for her weight or how she looked, and no one would exploit her.
“Is this what you meant by us hiding something?” Zhang Xiaolu was scornful at Tang Yuanyuan’s response before walking up to her and squeezing her chin to lift her. “Tang Yuanyuan, is there some misunderstanding here? I didn’t say that in your face to avoid embarrassing you. How could you accuse us of hiding something when all that we did was be considerate about your feelings? If it wasn’t because of Yishu, do you really think we would care about how you feel?”
Upon hearing this, Tang Yuanyuan widened her eyes in disbelief.
She could not believe that Zhang Xiaolu could turn their shamelessness into something that sounded so refined.
Zhang Xiaolu patted Tang Yuanyuan’s cheek.
“Since you’ve heard everything that we said, you’ve made it easier for us. From now on, we no longer have to care about how you feel. You’ll have to attend the birthday party no matter what.”
Tang Yuanyuan yelled angrily, “Who do you think you are? You’re in no position to ask anything of me. I’m not going!”
“And about Meng Kefei.” Zhang Xiaolu smiled, looking evil. “Her mother works at the textile factory owned by my uncle. You’ll get to see what happens to her if you don’t show up at the birthday party.”
To Tang Yuanyuan’s surprise, Zhang Xiaolu threatened her with Meng Kefei. “How can you do this? What does this matter have to do with Fei? Why do you have to target her?”
“You’re the young lady of the Tang Family. There’s no way we can touch you, so we have to target someone else since they won’t be able to fight us.” The smile on Zhang Xiaolu’s face appeared unbidden. “Think about this properly. Will you be attending the birthday party and helping us get close to Yishu?”
Having heard everything from the other side of the door, Meng Kefei had the urge to push the door open. She angrily bit her lower lip for she did not expect these two girls to be using her as leverage against Yuanyuan.
Is Yuanyuan going to accept their requests?
Meng Kefei held her breath.
“I won’t help you out.” Tang Yuanyuan bit her lower lip, still standing by her decision.
Meng Kefei felt disappointed, and her hands that were on the door gradually slid down. She kept her head down, hiding half of it in the shadow.
So, I guess this is what besties do. She doesn’t even care if my mother is going to lose her job.
But who am I kidding? She’s the young lady of the Tang Family. How will she ever understand human suffering? Losing a job doesn’t mean anything to her.
Previously, Meng Kefei felt guilty for telling others that Yuanyuan and Yuchi Yishu were not biological siblings. But now, having heard what Tang Yuanyuan said, she no longer needed to feel this way.
So, Meng Kefei turned around and left.
In the dorm, Zhang Xiaolu smiled dismissively. “Looks like I was wrong in believing that your best friend’s mother losing her job was able to change your mind. Are you two still besties?”
“Of course we are. Besides, I’m not done yet. I won’t help you out because you will never get to cause Fei’s mother to lose her job. If you do that, I’ll tell Yishu everything. After that, you’ll never get the chance to get close to Yishu. Besides, the Tang Group is not afraid of anyone. Aunty Han is the wife of the president of the Ye Group, and Uncle Ye will also be on my side. I can even call the press to come and interview students like you. We’ll see who gets to be on the winning side.”
The smile on Zhang Xiaolu’s face disappeared.
At the same time, Yuan Yuehan was also startled. She did not expect Tang Yuanyuan to be so quick in responding, as it seemed like they had both underestimated her.
In the past, Tang Yuanyuan might have been simple-minded, but she was not dumb. Her being untouched by the complications in the world did not mean that she did not know what the complications were.
When the ugly side of humans showed up in front of you, everything started to get real; she no longer wanted to be passive and get pushed around.
“So, if that’s something that you want to do, bring it on. And trust me, you won’t be allowed to touch either Fei or her mother.”
All of a sudden, Tang Yuanyuan had a realization. “Oh, by the way, was it the two of you who caused Fei’s injury last time?”
