Ch. 501..510
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 501
Aren’t you? She almost blurted that out.
Nevertheless, Han Muzi stayed quiet in the end.
“To be honest, I am not in favor of you being together with Moxuan right now. However, it’s not because I want to split you two up. You know very well that I liked you very much all those years ago.”
Han Muzi had to agree with that. Previously, when I was hurt, Song An treated me. After that, she advised and comforted me, and she even scolded Ye Moxuan right in front of me. Han Muzi remembered everything clearly.
“Aunty Song, I know that.” Han Muzi smiled faintly. “I know your thoughts then, and I am also aware of your opinions now. Don’t worry.”
In the beginning… Song An thought that Han Muzi might try to explain herself.
However, now that Han Muzi didn’t even try to explain, Song An felt rather embarrassed. I claimed that I’m not here to split them up, but… wasn’t I trying to do exactly that earlier?
Suddenly, Song An wasn’t sure what to say. She felt that Han Muzi was truly different from before. She was now cool, calm and collected.
“Let’s eat.” Countless thoughts were finally reduced to a single sentence.
“Sure.” Han Muzi smiled brightly. The two of them then enjoyed their food without another word.
After the meal, Han Muzi drove Song An back since she didn’t drive there.
Song An gazed at Han Muzi sincerely before getting out of the car. “Muzi,” she called out.
Han Muzi answered automatically in a daze when she heard her, “Yeah, Aunty Song?”
Song An looked at Han Muzi, who was in the driver’s seat, before asking in a quiet voice, “If I say that, despite learning the ins and outs of the matter, I still want you to advise Moxuan to let Lin Qingqing off the hook, will you say yes?”
Han Muzi seemed unfazed, as if she was prepared for Song An to say that because she merely nodded. “Yes, I will.”
“You will?” Song An was surprised. “Won’t you blame me?”
“Aunty Song, didn’t you come all the way to North City for this?” Han Muzi asked calmly.
She exposed Song An with a simple sentence. Song An was so embarrassed that she cleared her throat softly before asking, “In that case, do you blame me?”
“I know you are caught in the middle of this, Aunty Song. Besides, Mr. Ye is your niece. Since you, as his family member, don’t plan to hold Lin Qingqing accountable, I wouldn’t have a say as an outsider. That is why I respect your decision, Aunty Song. However, for Mr. Ye, this matter…”
“This is the reason I am meeting you today. I am guessing that he is sending her to court for your sake. Muzi, I know that I am going overboard with my request, but I am the cause of this issue after all. A friend has asked me for help, and I don’t want things to get too ugly because this issue will ruin the girl. Do you understand where I’m coming from?”
Han Muzi nodded in silence.
“Don’t worry. I will get Lin Qingqing’s mother to take her away. After all, sparing them is the best thing you could do for them. If she has the audacity to harm you in the future, forget Moxuan; I would be the first to get to her.”
Well, that is expected of Song An. She knows my thoughts well.
Han Muzi smiled faintly while thanking her with a nod. “Thank you, Aunty Song.”
Initially, Song An thought that the two of them were unsuited for each other. To be honest, she vanished for five years, and that is the reason I have been holding a grudge against her. It’s not that I think she went overboard; I just felt that she was too cruel to have vanished into thin air for five long years. This shows that her personality truly is not suited for Moxuan.
However, looking at her now, I am even more fond of her than before. Maybe Han Muzi is too nice and kind, and that is why I feel guilty. In the end, Song An commented unexpectedly, “You are a good child. I honestly have no intentions of splitting you two up.”
Han Muzi was stumped when she heard that. However, she collected herself swiftly while smiling and nodding at Song An in silence.
“You should head back. Please be careful on the road.”
“I will.”
Song An sighed in relief once Han Muzi drove off.
She is such a good girl. However, judging by how she is now, I doubt Moxuan stands a sliver of a chance. You simply can’t force fate.
…
Court day was around the corner. Han Muzi brought some home-cooked food to visit Ye Moxuan at the hospital as usual.
Recently, she had been going back and forth to the company, hospital, and her home. Hence, she lost weight during this period.
Ye Moxuan only noticed the changes when she sat down. There was a light greenish tinge around her eyes. Her initially small face was now even thinner than before, and it accentuated her facial features. She had some make-up on, and under the lighting, it made her look incredibly beautiful.
Ye Moxuan’s voice was hoarse, as if something was stuck to his throat. “Don’t send me food from tomorrow onward.”
Han Muzi’s movements paused when she heard that, but she regained her composure swiftly. Then, she handed a bowl to Ye Moxuan without answering him.
She looked exceptionally calm, and it annoyed Ye Moxuan somehow.
“Aren’t you going to ask me why?”
Han Muzi served the dishes one after another while answering in a steady tone, “There’s no need to ask.”
Ye Moxuan scowled when he noticed that there were more dishes today than usual. It was something out of the norm, and so he scowled at her. “Why are there so many dishes today?”
“You’ve been recuperating for so long, and you are getting better each day. Tomorrow is court day, and that is why I’ve prepared more food to celebrate with you.”
“Celebrate?” Ye Moxuan’s eyebrows shot up before squinting at her. “Are we really celebrating?”
Han Muzi nodded.
“Shouldn’t you be happy since we are celebrating?” Ye Moxuan leaned forward with his tall body. She felt his hot breath on her, and his dark eyes were staring at her unblinkingly. “From where I stand, you don’t look happy at all. What’s wrong?”
His breath caressed her cheeks, and it surprised Han Muzi. She moved backward slightly before answering in a whisper, “Nothing. Aren’t you happy that I brought more dishes for you? I’ll give up, then. You should stick with plain porridge.”
With that, Han Muzi reached out to take the dishes away from the table.
Ye Moxuan grabbed her wrist since she returned to her usual self. “Don’t even think of taking it back since you’ve served them.”
Han Muzi pulled her hand back while glaring at him. “Then why were you commenting?”
Ye Moxuan smiled at her. “I’ll stop that.”
After that, he put the matter aside and started eating. Meanwhile, Han Muzi sat beside him while trying to figure a way to tell him about this matter.
Song An asked me out, hoping that I’d persuade Ye Moxuan. She’s helped me in the past, and it’s only natural for me to repay her.
When Ye Moxuan was almost done with his meal, Han Muzi asked him softly, “Court starts tomorrow. Is your lawyer prepared?”
Ye Moxuan sensed something out of the ordinary immediately at the mention of this matter. He looked up at her. “What are you trying to say?”
Han Muzi was shocked because she wasn’t expecting him to notice it with a simple question.
In that case, I should just be straightforward and not overthink.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 502
“I thought about it after heading home yesterday. Although what she did this time was horrible, she is the daughter of Aunty Song’s friend after all. So—”
“So what?”
Ye Moxuan cut her off coldly before she could finish her sentence. He squinted at her menacingly while hissing through gritted teeth, “I thought you would at least be more ruthless after five years, or you should at least have a firmer stand. In the end, I see that my aunt succeeded in persuading you with just a conversation, huh?”
Han Muzi was stumped to silence when she heard that. Her pink lips parted, but she was at a loss for words.
Ye Moxuan burst out laughing. “Shouldn’t you at least treat my aunt the way you treat me?”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his response.
He continued in a mocking tone, “Why are you giving up without a fight? You know very well that she splashed you with sulfuric acid this time; who knows what it will be the next time? Besides, how can you be sure that I’d rush to you in time the next time she tries to hurt you?”
“She won’t,” Han Muzi refuted him swiftly.
“She won’t?” Ye Moxuan cocked a brow at her.
Initially, Han Muzi thought in silence, As long as you stay away from me, Lin Qingqing won’t target me. However, Han Muzi figured it sounded too direct, and she didn’t want him to throw a tantrum.
Hence, she changed her angle. “You have always been her target.”
Ye Moxuan mulled over what she said for a very long time. He realized what she meant after several moments, and a trace of cold ruthlessness flashed across his eyes. Then, he smiled in a self-deprecating manner.
“Are you telling me that you are abandoning me once I’m fully recovered?”
Abandon…
Han Muzi frowned deeply. I’ve never claimed that I was responsible for him, so how can he say that I’m abandoning him? Besides, as long as he’s fully recovered, I would have fulfilled my responsibilities.
Ye Moxuan smirked at her. “Muzi, my injuries have yet to fully recover. You are provoking me by trying to persuade me to let the woman who attempted to harm you off the hook.”
Han Muzi shut her eyes and inhaled deeply to suppress her frustration. After she collected herself, she explained calmly, “I can only try to persuade you; it doesn’t mean that I’d succeed in doing so. It’s up to you. If you don’t want to let her off the hook, you should tell Aunty Song that yourself. However… I promised Aunty Song, and so I’ll just eat my words.”
Han Muzi flashed him a resigned smile when she said that, as if she was indifferent to the situation.
Suddenly, Ye Moxouan grabbed her wrist, and before she could respond, he pulled her into a tight embrace.
“What did she tell you to make you change your mind all of a sudden?”
Han Muzi was sitting on his thighs, and she tried to push him away. However, Ye Moxuan’s arms were long and strong; in fact, they were like iron chains fastened around her waist, rendering her immobile.
He did not give her the chance to escape; instead, he lifted her chin up between his fingers while locking eyes with her.
“Weren’t you so scared that you couldn’t even fall asleep? Do you want to live in fear in the future by setting her free?”
Han Muzi bit her lower lip. “She didn’t injure me after all. Besides… Aunty Song told me that her family would take her away. To be honest, this issue could be easily resolved. It all started because of you, and as long as you stay away from me, she won’t resent me anymore. From the beginning, I have never planned to get back with you. We will get a divor—Ugh!”
She didn’t have the chance to finish her sentence because Ye Moxuan had sealed her lips with his.
Han Muzi was rendered motionless by the sudden shock of the kiss.
She blinked several times in a daze, and her long lashes fluttered, just as how Ye Moxuan’s heart did.
After a while, Han Muzi reached out to shove against him, and Ye Moxuan took the opportunity to grab both her wrists and secured them at her back. His sturdy built subdued her while he kissed her ruby-red lips.
It was just like a game of tag; one was trying to escape, whereas the other was chasing after them.
The person who was trying to escape would always feel sad somehow, whereas the person who was doing the chasing would be determined and have had their heart set. Hence, in the end, Ye Moxuan had the upper hand, while Han Muzi was completely defeated.
After a very long kiss, Ye Moxuan pressed his forehead against hers while announcing breathlessly, “There’s no need to get back together because we were never separated to begin with.”
With that, he kissed the corner of her lips tenderly. Then, he couldn’t stop himself from kissing the tip of her nose and her eyelid. “I can’t forgive her, and neither would I let you go. Muzi… Qi… you are destined to be my woman.”
…
In the end, Han Muzi failed to persuade Ye Moxuan.
Song An believed in Han Muzi, and she figured Han Muzi would be the only one who could persuade Ye Moxuan. However, Song An had overlooked something.
Lin Qingqing harmed the most important person to Ye Moxuan.
Hence, how could he possibly let her off the hook?
Han Muzi felt frustrated since she failed to persuade Ye Moxuan despite having promised Song An. Besides, Han Muzi was in shock after that kiss, and coupled with what Ye Moxuan said to her, she somehow felt as if it was even harder now for her to shake him off now. Han Muzi was starting to panic, and she even had the urge to just escape from everything.
In the end, Han Muzi decided to phone Song An to inform her about this matter anyway.
Upon hearing Han Muzi’s explanation, Song An answered quietly after a short pause, “I understand. In all honesty, I know that it’s been hard on you for me to ask you to persuade him, but I just wanted to try. No worries, Muzi. You did your best.”
Han Muzi answered softly, “I’m really sorry, Aunty Song. Initially, I thought he’d agree to it. I honestly did not expect…”
“Well, that’s where you are mistaken. Moxuan is very firm when it comes to issues involving you. Otherwise, all those years ago, why would the two of you—”
Han Muzi felt her heart race in a panic when she heard Song An bringing up the past. Hence, Han Muzi stopped her swiftly. “Aunty Song, let’s not talk about the past.”
“That’s fine too. I won’t talk about it if it makes you uncomfortable. Well, I will talk to the other party regarding this issue, and you don’t have to get involved anymore.”
“Alright.”
After ending the phone call, Han Muzi placed her phone at the side. Then, she reclined backward in exhaustion and slumped against the couch.
She had been living in this apartment alone ever since she purchased it, while Yan had been taking Little Bean back to the Han residence.
Ye Moxuan will not let Lin Qingqing off the hook. That means… she might have to stay in jail for a very long time.
It may not be a bad idea. I suppose it will be a very long lesson.
I have a feeling that this incident will destroy that girl, but why didn’t she think of the consequences of ruining herself before acting out?
That is why I shouldn’t be soft-hearted.
After coming to a conclusion, Han Muzi picked her phone up again to phone Yan and tell her that she could move in now.
“Is the issue resolved?”
“Almost, I guess. Please pack up tomorrow and take Little Bean over.”
“Sure!”
After that, Han Muzi went for a shower. By the time she got out of the bathroom, she realized that there was an adult and a child in her room.
Yan actually brought Little Bean back that very night.
“Mommy!!!”
Little Bean threw himself at her after having not seen Han Muzi for so many days!
Han Muzi staggered before she steadied herself by taking several steps backward, and then she held onto Little Bean.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 503
“Mommy! I missed you so much!” Little Bean clung onto Han Muzi while nuzzling his face against her arm intimately.
Han Muzi’s heart melted in a mush after having her child rub against her arm.
“Didn’t I ask you both to come over tomorrow? Why did you come over so late at night?” Han Muzi crouched down and pinched Little Bean’s chubby cheeks. It felt so good that she continued rubbing and caressing his cheeks.
Little Bean’s delicate facial features were squished under Han Muzi’s ravages, but he wasn’t angry at all. On the contrary, his eyes gleamed with delight. He held onto Han Muzi’s wrist tightly while exclaiming, “Mommy, kisses!”
Han Muzi lowered her head and kissed Little Bean’s cheek. Little Bean finally got his wish, and he wrapped his tiny arms around her neck in delight.
“Can I live with you forever from now on, mommy?”
Han Muzi was astounded by his question, but she nodded swiftly. “Of course. From now on, we will always live together. Mommy will protect you well.”
“Hmph.” Little Bean snorted unexpectedly. “I am a grown up now, and I am perfectly capable of protecting you, mommy. Stop sending me away when something bad crops up. I want to stay by your side.”
Han Muzi was at a loss for words when she heard that.
He sounded like a grown up, and Han Muzi felt tears brimming in her eyes. She reached out and caressed Little Bean’s head. “You’re all grown up, my dear Little Bean. I know that.”
“But you don’t trust me, mommy! Hmph!”
Yan observed their interaction in amusement, and she tried taking Han Muzi’s side. “Is it enough for your mommy to trust you? If bad guys show up, you are too small to do anything. Your mom needs to look after herself, and you’d be slowing her down if she needs to worry about you. I’m not trying to knock you down, but you are still little, and you will be a burden. If you don’t want to be a burden to your mommy, you have to eat more and grow taller. Once you are taller than both your mommy and me, we will trust that you have the ability to protect others!”
Yan’s words were harsh but true. Hence, Han Muzi didn’t refute her.
Besides, she knew her son wasn’t as fragile as one might think.
True enough, Little Bean seemed indifferent; in fact, he snorted in disdain. “You enjoy attacking others with your words, Aunt Yan. I wonder who was the one begging me not to tell Uncle Qing about her!”
The grin across Yan’s face vanished when she heard that. She looked as if she was about to hit Little Bean.
“Aren’t you a naughty one! You are always using your Uncle Qing to make fun of me!”
“Mommy!” Little Bean threw himself into Han Muzi’s arms while hugging her tightly, as if asking her for help.
Han Muzi stopped Yan’s attack before asking her quietly, “How’s your progress with Qing?”
Yan blushed furiously. “Muzi, what are you talking about?”
Little Bean exposed her immediately. “Mommy, I saw Aunt Yan kissing Uncle Qing!”
Han Muzi was rather surprised when she heard that. “What was that?”
“Argh!!!” Yan started screaming, as if something terrible just happened. “Little Bean, you’re spouting nonsense! I did not!”
Little Bean added in a sing-song voice, “Yes, you did! I saw you kissing Uncle Qing upstairs.”
Han Muzi gazed at Yan and realized that she was blushing furiously. It was apparent that it must be true. If she didn’t kiss Han Qing, Little Bean wouldn’t have made such a claim, and Yan wouldn’t have had such a huge reaction.
This only further proves that Yan must have kissed Han Qing.
Han Muzi couldn’t help but conjure Han Qing’s serious and stern face in her mind. Yan actually stole a kiss from Qing. Well, how was his expression then?
Han Muzi’s curiosity was piqued, and she propped her chin up while gazing at Yan. “Can you walk me through the process? For example, how did you do it? And what was my brother’s expression?”
Yan was dumbfounded.
Han Muzi demanded, “Yan, you had better spill!”
“I’m not talking to you both anymore!” Yan exclaimed in exasperation and turned around to leave the room. Looking at how flushed Yan’s face was, Han Muzi merely laughed, but she didn’t chase after Yan.
“Mommy, do you not believe me? I really saw it that day,” Little Bean uttered while looking up at Han Muzi after Yan left the room.
Han Muzi tapped the tip of his nose gently. “Why wouldn’t I believe you? Little Bean, do you like Aunt Yan? What do you think of her becoming your Aunty Yan?”
Little Bean blinked his eyes in sudden excitement.
“Will she often cook delicious food for me if she becomes my Aunty Yan?”
Han Muzi burst out laughing at his gluttony. “That’s right.” She nodded.
“I shall take note. From tomorrow onward, I’ll change the way I address her.”
“What do you mean?”
“From now on, I will address Aunt Yan as Aunty Yan.”
Han Muzi caressed Little Bean’s head quietly with a smile.
After Yan hid in her room, she felt her cheeks burning in embarrassment. She covered her cheeks with her palms while she paced in her room and howled agonizingly.
Initially, I already felt bad for ambushing him in secret, and it took such a long time for me to calm down from that incident. However, Little Bean brought it up again.
Yan felt extremely ashamed of herself the moment she thought of how Han Muzi might make fun of her over this incident.
That’s Han Muzi’s older brother! Sob… Why did I embarrass myself? Why couldn’t I control my emotions? Besides… I even wanted to steal a second kiss, but… I was too afraid and ran off. However…
Yan bit her finger while looking as though she was reminiscing that moment.
My crush’s lips are so soft.
I could only kiss him in my dreams after that incident. Besides… Han Qing would always respond to my kiss in my dream… in a charming and strong way, no less. However, how’s that possible in reality?
Yan was evidently distressed. She lay spreadeagle on her stomach on the bed, and her face was buried against her pillow.
Ding!
Her phone rang, and Yan checked her phone, only to realize that it was a WeChat message from Han Muzi. After reading the message, Yan started blushing again.
Yan tapped away on her phone bitterly.
‘You should stop teasing me, hmph!’
‘How am I teasing you? I am just concerned about the relationship status between my brother and my best friend. I think the word you’re looking for is ‘considerate’.’
‘Hmph! You should be concerned about Ye Moxuan instead!’
There was no reply after that, and Yan realized in horror that she shouldn’t have done that. Therefore, she typed a message in response hastily.
‘I didn’t mean that. I was just asking you not to tease me about it.’
‘So you admit to it?’
Yan’s eyes bulged in shock. Damn it! She got me there.
Yan snorted, but after weighing her options, she decided to come clean.
‘Yes, yes, I’ll admit to that, alright? You always knew that I have a crush on your brother. I couldn’t help myself because he was just there, looking so handsome.’
‘Tsk, I believe in you. Whether you would end up as my sister-in-law all comes down to your performance in the future.’
Muzi’s sister-in-law? Han covered her cheeks again while she fantasized about marrying Han Qing.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 504
The noise of her WeChat notification interrupted Yan’s thoughts. Yan snapped back to reality, and she shook her head to clear her mind.
What was I thinking? How could Han Qing possibly have feelings for me?
Judging by Han Qing’s personality, he looks like he’s taken a vow of celibacy. Otherwise, why isn’t he married at his age? I am just a girl with nothing to offer; why would he pay attention to me?
After all, Han Qing didn’t even fall for an outstanding woman such as Su Jiu.
As for me, what do I have to offer? What merits do I have for him to fall for me?
Yan felt depressed when she thought of that. Thus, she continued tapping away on her phone.
‘That’s impossible. Your brother would never fall for someone like me.’
‘How would you know if you haven’t tried? Besides, didn’t you kiss him? You can take it a step further the next time.’
Upon reading that, Yan had a sudden feeling that Han Muzi was rather good at scheming. She’s truly going all out for her brother’s happiness.
However, Yan was embarrassed to discuss this topic with Han Muzi, and so she put her phone away. Then, she turned over and lay spreadeagle on her bed again.
Yan was still in a bad mood, but in the end, she shut her eyes and willed herself to stop thinking about it.
…
The next day was court day, and as a key witness at the scene, Han Muzi had to be present. Hence, she washed up early in the morning and got dressed in a smart dress suit, which was paired with a trench coat, before heading out.
Before she left, she reminded Little Bean to have his meal obediently at school. She also promised to pick him up in person after school.
It had been a long time since Han Muzi picked Little Bean up from school. Hence, Little Bean agreed in excitement since she gave her word.
She dropped by the hospital first. When she got to the entrance of the ward, she heard the voices of Song An and Ye Moxuan. However, there was another voice amidst their conversation too.
Han Muzi stood at the entrance of the hospital room, and she was able to see what was going on inside the ward through a small glass window.
Song An looked calm while sitting on one of the chairs, whereas Ye Moxuan had a cold and detached expression. There was a woman standing opposite him, who was dressed in luxurious brand clothes. Han Muzi had been in this social circle long enough to tell that the woman was clad in designer brands from head to toe.
The woman was staring at Ye Moxuan anxiously, as if trying to explain something while gesturing wildly in the air.
After a quick glance, Han Muzi already had a good guess about her identity.
I suppose Lin Qingqing’s mother would be the only woman of this age to come all the way to the hospital at this hour.
Han Muzi wasn’t sure how long the conversation would last, and so she didn’t enter the room to interrupt them. Instead, she waited at the entrance in silence.
On the other side, Ye Moxuan’s gaze was cold and distant because he did not want to listen to whatever the perpetrator’s mother had to say. He only wanted to sanction the woman who committed a crime by harming others intentionally.
Han Muzi immediately caught the attention of Ye Moxuan when she appeared at the entrance of the ward. Mrs. Lin was still speaking when Ye Moxuan stood up abruptly and marched toward the door.
Mrs. Lin and Song An were stumped by his sudden movements, and they followed behind him.
Song An was surprised since Ye Moxuan seemed as if he was in a rush. Meanwhile, Mrs. Lin glanced at Song An in bewilderment, but Song An shrugged, signaling she had no idea as well.
It was not until they opened the hospital room door and she heard Ye Moxuan’s gentle tone that Song An guessed what was happening.
“Why are you standing outside of the room since you’ve arrived? Come in.” Ye Moxuan gazed at the woman standing by the wall. Is this woman stupid? Or is she a fool? Why didn’t she enter the room since she’s here? How long was she planning on standing outside?
Han Muzi was at a loss for words. Does he have an eagle eye? He wasn’t even looking in my direction when I was checking through the glass window. How did he notice me?
Ye Moxuan guessed what she had in mind effortlessly the moment he saw the shocked look across Han Muzi’s face. He smiled at her triumphantly. “You don’t have to guess. It’s the confluence of minds.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his response.
Is he a psychic?
However, she didn’t have much time to process this because Ye Moxuan was already dragging her into the hospital ward while holding onto her wrist.
Previously, he didn’t want to entertain Lin Qingqing’s mother. Now that he led Han Muzi into the room, he immediately chased Mrs. Lin out. “I will not change my mind. You can leave now.”
She is an elderly after all. For Ye Moxuan to act so rudely… Han Muzi frowned reflexively. I do think that Ye Moxuan is going overboard with his actions, but… it’s a mother’s fault for her daughter’s bad behavior after all.
Her daughter committed such a crime, but not only is she not sincere in wanting her daughter to repent, she even wants to cover up the whole matter.
Hence, Han Muzi remained silent and stood there with a neutral expression.
Mrs. Lin started panicking immediately when Ye Moxuan chased her out.
“Moxuan, please, don’t. I am here today to apologize to you sincerely. Qingqing made such a horrible mistake because I did not educate her well, but she’s a girl after all. She would suffer if she ended up in prison!”
Han Muzi’s lips parted, but she didn’t voice her thoughts in the end.
Ye Moxuan snorted in disdain. “Mrs. Lin, do you think that I’m not suffering enough right now?”
Upon hearing his snide remark, Mrs. Lin answered in frustration, “I know, I know. You are now suffering much more than she is. However, people make mistakes. Qingqing was just reckless this time, and as long as you are willing to forgive her, I promise you that this won’t happen again. If it happened again, forget you; as her mother, I would be the first to punish her severely. However… this is not the time! Please give her a chance to make it right.”
Her speech was rather moving.
Han Muzi observed Mrs. Lin carefully, and she thought that, compared to Lin Qingqing, Mrs. Lin seemed much more sensible.
However, it was also possible that she was pretending for the sake of saving Lin Qingqing.
Mrs. Lin must have noticed Han Muzi’s gaze because she turned to face her. Finally, Mrs. Lin’s gaze settled on Ye Moxuan’s hand, which was holding hers. Something must have struck Mrs. Lin as she asked Han Muzi, “A-Are you that girl?”
Han Muzi was stunned to silence. Then, she pulled her hand back slowly.
Just when she was about to free herself from his grasp, Ye Moxuan tightened his grip suddenly, and he held her wrist in an iron clasp. It was obvious he was reluctant to let go of her.
His action explained everything.
Mrs. Lin suddenly poured all her hope into Han Muzi, and so she approached Han Muzi suddenly.
“I heard that Qingqing wanted to splash sulfuric acid on you. Ye Moxuan blocked the attack, and that was why he sustained such severe injuries. She wanted to harm you from the very beginning, so I should be apologizing to you instead; am I right? I am sorry. I apologize to you on behalf of my daughter. But she really is young and ignorant. Can you please forgive her this time?”
Han Muzi’s lips parted while she stared at the mother in front of her, who was giving it her all for the sake of her daughter.
I’m a mother as well; naturally, I understand where she’s coming from.
At that thought, Han Muzi glanced at Ye Moxuan.
Ye Moxuan had most probably guessed her thoughts because he finally broke the silence. “Do you have something to say?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 505
“Are you willing to hear me out?” Han Muzi was caught by surprise. He didn’t want me to change my mind yesterday. Why is he asking if I have something to say now?
Ye Moxuan wrapped an arm around her waist while asking her affectionately, “Let’s hear it.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his response.
Han Muzi wanted to push him away, but his arm was like a chain which was slithered around her waist securely. In the end, she gave up and stated, “I can give her a chance, but… I would like to meet her before court.”
If Ye Moxuan is willing to give her another chance, I’d like to see what Lin Qingqing’s thoughts are right now. I wonder if she has had a change of heart after being in custody for the past few days.
Maybe she hasn’t changed. Or perhaps she hates me even more now.
Mrs. Lin’s eyes brimmed with tears once she heard that Han Muzi was willing to give Lin Qingqing a chance, and she held onto Han Muzi’s hands gratefully.
“Thank you; thank you so much. You are a good person. As long as Qingqing is able to be free of this, I will get her to apologize properly to you and thank you all.”
Song An was dumbfounded by the sudden change of events. Ye Moxuan was adamant yesterday, but somehow, Han Muzi convinced him so effortlessly today.
Could he be… doing that on purpose in front of Lin Qingqing’s mother?
Song An shook her head when that thought crossed her mind, as if trying to shake off her jumbled thoughts.
…
Han Muzi wanted to decide what to do based on Lin Qingqing’s attitude.
Although Ye Moxuan wasn’t sure of what she had in mind, he was respectful of her wishes. He was more than willing to go along with whatever she had in mind.
Ye Moxuan made it seem so natural to be so agreeable. However, the two women, who were observing from the side, had different thoughts respectively.
Song An thought that Han Muzi had had her nephew wrapped around her finger. Well… it is what I’ve expected after all. She shook her head helplessly in her mind while smiling faintly at them.
On the other hand, Lin Qingqing’s mother was in shock.
Ye Moxuan was especially cold and distant when they first met. Before she met him in person, she had only seen him on television and posters. She could tell how powerful the man was and how cold his gaze cut even before meeting him in person. Hence, Mrs. Lin thought that it was normal when he had such a dark expression during Lin Qingqing’s blind date.
I thought that it was the norm for this man to be so indifferent, and so I was hoping that my daughter would win him over one day. However… right now, I am witnessing him acting at another woman’s will, and that woman is not my daughter.
I’d be lying if I say I’m not jealous. However, does jealousy help in situations like this? I have experience in life, and I know that if a man falls for you, you would have his heart. There is no need for you to beg for his attention because he will try to approach you, please you and pamper you on his accord.
However, if a man is not in love with you, he will not pay attention to you at all, no matter how hard you try; not to mention someone of Ye Moxuan’s caliber.
My daughter is inferior to this woman, and I accept that!
Right now, I just hope that my daughter will be safe and free. At that thought, Mrs. Lin rubbed her hands anxiously while gazing at Han Muzi. I hope that this woman is a kind and soft-hearted person.
“Are you coming with us?” Han Muzi frowned when she heard that Ye Moxuan was planning to travel together with them. Song An approached them as well. “No, you can’t. You are still wounded. It’s fine to move around in the ward, but you’d be ruining your recuperation if you go with us!”
Han Muzi nodded in agreement. “That’s right. You can’t come with us. You should stay and rest in your room.”
“No way.” Ye Moxuan pursed his thin lips as he put up a cold expression. “I was planning to go to court today anyway. The additional time is nothing to me.”
Lin Qingqing’s mother turned pale when she heard that. However, she was an outsider, and so it was inappropriate for her to voice out her opinion. I don’t want Ye Moxuan to go with us, of course. After all… I can beg Han Muzi more if Ye Moxuan doesn’t come along. Women are often more soft-hearted.
Song An asked, “Can’t you just listen to my advice? You are still badly wounded.”
Ye Moxuan answered icily, “Walking is not a problem.”
Song An had no choice but to gaze at Han Muzi pleadingly.
In all honesty, Han Muzi was helpless in this regard. She knew Ye Moxuan would not be easily swayed, and so she gazed at him. She agreed with Song An, and she hoped Ye Moxuan wouldn’t go with them.
“You don’t have to talk me out of it,” Ye Moxuan stated adamantly to Han Muzi.
Han Muzi weighed her options before answering him, “In that case, let’s go now. We’ll meet Miss Lin first before we decide.”
Song An fell silent.
So are we giving up advising him against it? Forget it. Why should I worry? After all, Ye Moxuan would be the one suffering if his injuries are worsened. If he collapsed, and worse comes to worst, I’ll just get someone to carry him back to the hospital.
There’s honestly nothing to worry about. He wouldn’t end up dead after all. If he doesn’t mind, why should I care so much?
Upon deciding that, the group went ahead to meet Lin Qingqing.
Lin Qingqing had suffered tremendously for the past few days in jail. The place was dark, and its condition was incomparable to her room at home. There was no large bathtub, nor were there beautiful clothes. She had been doing some self-reflection for several days, and she had been unable to eat.
Initially, she would knock over her meals and refuse to eat them because she thought that they were inedible.
However, since she had committed a crime, who would be waiting on her to serve up a feast? People in there weren’t her family, and they were not obliged to tolerate her.
Hence, Lin Qingqing was so famished that she stopped knocking over her food. She started eating whatever they served. She felt utterly wronged and was filled with resentment.
I’m just waiting. I have to leave this place. I am in this state thanks to that woman, Han Muzi! If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have fallen to where I am today.
Lin Qingqing was so happy that she cried tears of joy the moment she heard that she had visitors. It must be my mother. She must be here to save me!
Lin Qingqing was full of hope when she walked out. Upon arriving, she saw a group of people in the visitors’ room.
Since she had yet to receive a sentence, she was allowed to meet them directly.
“Qingqing!” Tears immediately streamed down Mrs. Lin’s cheeks when she saw Lin Qingqing. Then, she rushed toward Lin Qingqing immediately.
“Mother!” Lin Qingqing’s eyes were red with tears when she threw herself into her mother’s embrace. Soon, she started bawling her eyes out. “Mother, sob… You are finally here. I’ve been suffering.”
The two of them started crying while entangled in a hug. Mrs. Lin caressed Lin Qingqing’s head, and her heart broke into pieces. “Don’t worry. You shouldn’t worry because I won’t forget about you. Aren’t I here to visit you now? How are you anyway? Why have you gotten so thin?”
Lin Qingqing looked up, and just when she was about to accuse Han Muzi, Lin Qingqing saw Ye Moxuan, who was standing right beside Han Muzi.
Lin Qingqing was utterly ashamed of herself to have the man she loved witness how horrendous and dreadful she appeared at that moment. Lin Qingqing covered her face with her hands in horror and threw herself into Mrs. Lin’s arms, as if in shock.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 506
“W-Why is he here too?”
“Who?” Mrs. Lin asked since she wasn’t sure who she was referring to.
However, Lin Qingqing clung onto Mrs. Lin and buried her face against her chest. “Mother, I don’t want to see him right now. I look so embarrassing and ugly. How can I let him see me in this state? He doesn’t even like me to begin with. He must be even more disappointed to see me in this state.”
Her voice was very soft, and so only Mrs. Lin could hear her. Lin Qingqing was her daughter after all, and so how could she not understand her wishes?
Lin Qingqing was referring to Ye Moxuan.
Lin Qingqing had lost weight over the past two days, and she had no make-up on since she had been in jail all along. Hence, she thought that her image was ruined in front of the man of her dreams, since Ye Moxuan showed up suddenly.
If it were in the past, Mrs. Lin would have helped Lin Qingqing through this.
However, at that point, Lin Qingqing’s reputation and life was much more important in comparison to keeping up a façade. Hence, Mrs. Lin couldn’t be bothered with her; instead, she pulled Lin Qingqing’s arm while whispering to her, “My dear child, ignore him. I’m here to save you. You made a mistake in the past, so today, you have to apologize to her. Admit sincerely that it was your fault, and that you will never repeat your mistake. Do you understand me?”
Lin Qingqing’s body quivered against Mrs. Lin’s arms upon hearing that. Then, she looked up at Mrs. Lin while asking her in a hushed tone, “Mother, what are you saying?”
“Apologize properly, alright?” Mrs. Lin stared at her while warning her softly. “It took a lot of effort from my part to beg for this opportunity. You might lose this chance if you don’t apologize properly right now.”
“You begged for this opportunity? Did you beg that woman?” Lin Qingqing sounded agitated, and her eyes burned with anger and hatred. Her sudden change of emotions alarmed Mrs. Lin, and so Mrs. Lin gritted her teeth while she squeezed Lin Qingqing’s wrists while whispering to her, “You had better listen to me, Lin Qingqing. You have to apologize to them sincerely, repent and turn from your sins. You are not to show any emotions in your eyes because you were at fault in the entire incident!”
My fault?
What did I do? I don’t think I did anything wrong. The only thing I did wrong was not to have aimed the sulfuric acid accurately at Han Muzi’s face. That is why sheis still standing and looking fine right there.
“I will not apologize.” Lin Qingqing’s gaze was vicious. “This was not my fault. She was the one who started it by snatching away my man!”
“You silly child! What nonsense are you spouting?” Mrs. Lin’s eyes bulged in shock. She had a bad feeling about this because her daughter had always been arrogant and unyielding. At that moment, Lin Qingqing was still unwilling to apologize. “Do you know that if you don’t apologize today, you might end up in prison for a very long time?” Mrs. Lin asked.
What?
Lin Qingqing started trembling in fear at the mention of the possibility of being incarcerated in such a place.
However, why would I apologize to the woman who snatched my man away? How could I do that?
“It’s your choice. You either go out and apologize, or you stay here without apologizing. I trust you know what the right choice is.”
With that, Mrs. Lin let go of Lin Qingqing since she wanted her to decide for herself.
Once Mrs. Lin stood up, she glanced at Han Muzi with a smile before speaking in a soft tone, “I’ve spoken with her. She’s suffered quite a bit in here for the past few days. She knows that she’s at fault, and she’s reflected upon that.”
Han Muzi glanced at Mrs. Lin and thought that as a mother, Mrs. Lin was trying so hard to smooth things over for the sake of her daughter.
Han Muzi respected Mrs. Lin for her motherly love. Hence, she nodded in acknowledgement with a faint smile.
Mrs. Lin suddenly felt slightly better after seeing Han Muzi’s reaction. She will forgive my daughter, I suppose. As long as she forgives Qingqing, things will be easier to handle.
However, Lin Qingqing continued sitting on the floor, and she refused to stand up. She didn’t want Ye Moxuan to see her in such an embarrassing state because she knew she looked ugly.
Despite not looking into a mirror for the past few days, I can easily imagine how ugly I am right now. I haven’t showered for several days, and my hair must be a mess. Besides, the make-up I had on several days ago must have smeared by now.
Furthermore, I stink and am quite disgusting right now. I just can’t do it…
“No, I don’t want to.” Lin Qingqing let out a howl in agony as she held her head between her hands. “I don’t want to see him, I don’t want to see him! Mother, please ask him to leave! Ask him to leave!” she exclaimed in anguish.
Lin Qingqing looked as though she had lost her mind all of a sudden. Meanwhile, Han Muzi had no idea what was going on. Nevertheless, she was here to see if Lin Qingqing had repent her sins, so she stood by the side with a calm expression.
Suddenly, Lin Qingqing looked as if she thought of something because she looked up abruptly and shot Han Muzi a steely glare.
Her gaze was filled with anger and hatred.
Everyone was shocked, whereas Song An stared at Lin Qingqing in disbelief.
It was almost impossible to imagine how such a young woman could muster such a venomous stare.
Mrs. Lin’s heart sank, and she blocked in front of Lin Qingqing straight away. “What are you doing? Shouldn’t you be apologizing to Miss Han and Mr. Ye right now?”
“I won’t apologize! Why should I apologize?” Lin Qingqing screamed at the top of her voice. “Mother, I thought you were here to help me. Why are you forcing me to apologize to her? What have I done wrong?”
Mrs. Lin inhaled sharply, and the color drained instantly from her face. Her body stiffened, and she stood rooted to the spot.
Initially, Han Muzi had a neutral expression, but upon hearing Lin Qingqing’s screams, her eyes darkened slightly. After that, she looked at Mrs. Lin, who was still standing at the side.
What a shame. She has wasted all her efforts.
“She was at fault!” Lin Qingqing pointed at Han Muzi and hissed through gritted teeth. “I was the one who went on a bind date with Ye Moxuan first! She is just a fashion designer! Why did she snatch my arranged date from right under my nose? What does she have on me? How is she better than me?? Is it just because she is better than me at seducing men?”
Smack!
Mrs. Lin lost her temper, and she charged toward Lin Qinqing before slapping her hard across her face.
“What nonsense are you spouting? You had better apologize right now! What are our Lin family’s principles? I have taught you so much throughout the years; is this what you’ve learned? He simply doesn’t fancy you! In that case, how could you say she’d snatched him away? Quick, you had better apologize to them right now. I will give up on your case if you do not apologize today!”
“Mother!” Lin Qingqing’s eyes were bloodshot with anger. She couldn’t stay angry with her mother, but she was still glaring at Han Muzi with hatred.
Her gaze looked venomous, and it was so resentful that even Ye Moxuan couldn’t bear it. He scowled deeply, and his aura became icy cold. He was about to reach out to pull Han Muzi behind himself, but she took a step forward swiftly. She now stood still not too far away from Lin Qingqing.
She gazed at Lin Qingqing calmly, and her still expression was a stark contrast compared to that of Lin Qingqing’s.
“I won’t explain because I don’t think that’s necessary. But if you still think that I snatched your man away, I’ll tell you the truth.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 507
“The truth?” Lin Qingqing’s eyes were filled with tears and resentment. Lin Qingqing saw Ye Moxuan standing right behind Han Muzi when she looked up. He looks cold and aloof with a powerful aura, and he should have looked out of place among this group of people.
However, maybe because I’ve been in jail for too long, I’m now seeing things. At this moment, I feel as if Ye Moxuan has included Han Muzi into his own world.
Why? Why is this happening?
Tears were threatening to roll down from her eyes when Lin Qingqing saw this scene. She bit her lower lip while gazing at Han Muzi with hatred.
“Why? You… You might be very beautiful, but I think I’m on par with you. You are good at fashion design, but I’m well-versed in many other aspects too. Why did he fall for you?”
Lin Qingqing looked devastated because she was heartbroken when she saw Ye Moxuan including Han Muzi within his forceful aura.
Han Muzi maintained a blank expression when she spoke calmly, “You claim that I snatched away your arranged date because you are under the impression that I got to know him through your arranged date. Am I right?”
Lin Qingqing asked her back, “Isn’t it?”
“No, it isn’t,” Han Muzi refuted promptly, and it sounded more like a sigh. Han Muzi then started explaining slowly, “We didn’t get to know each other through your arranged date.”
“What do you mean?” Lin Qingqing glared at her while looking bewildered.
Han Muzi continued, “To be precise, I met him much earlier.”
“Much earlier, you say? How long ago was that? Are you trying to fool me?” Lin Qingqing bit her lower lip, and her hatred toward Han Muzi intensified.
Han Muzi shook her head and did some mental calculations. “We haven’t met for almost five years, to be exact. Your arranged date, when I ran into him, was just our reunion.”
“W-What? Your reunion? After five years???” Lin Qingqing exclaimed in disbelief. She thought she had heard wrongly, and her face turned pale while her lips parted slightly. She asked incredulously, “How is that possible? How could that day be your reunion? It was clear the two of you didn’t know each other at that time. I even introduced you two to each other! Han Muzi! Are you making this story up just so I’d apologize to you?”
Even Mrs. Lin, who was observing from the side, looked at Han Muzi in surprise.
Has this woman known Ye Moxuan for more than five years? This is truly unexpected.
“It’s not important whether or not you apologize to me because I don’t care if you’d end up locked in prison. Your mother is the person who cares if you’d end up in prison. Miss Lin, Ye Moxuan and I were indeed reunited that day. We’ve known each other for more than five years, and I’ve been very clear with my explanation. Are you still under the impression that I’d snatched your arranged date from you? Did he even give you hope from the very beginning?”
Lin Qingqing lowered her eyes.
Has he given me any hope?
No, he hasn’t.
He never did.
Ever since we had our first blind date, I could feel Ye Moxuan rejecting me with every fiber of his being. He didn’t want to go on arranged dates with me, but he let me save face due to my request.
It was I who had been dreaming that I’d somehow conquer the man.
I’ve never considered what others or he might feel. I’ve never taken into account the fact that he doesn’t even like me.
I saw a glimmer of emotion in Ye Moxuan’s eyes—and it was the day Han Muzi showed up for the first time—and that was why I harbored hope.
That’s right; it was a glimmer of emotion!
At that time, I thought he was interested in her profession as a fashion designer. I even forwarded her business contact to Ye Moxuan excitedly.
Who would have thought Ye Moxuan was interested in Han Muzi as a person, not her profession as a fashion designer?
If it is true that they were reunited after such a long time, everything I did was essentially just helping the two of them rekindle their flames.
Whatever I did was foolish and ridiculous now that I think about it!
No!
“N-No way. How is this possible?” Lin Qingqing took several steps backward while she considered the possibility. She slumped on the ground while shaking her head, and she stared at Han Muzi. “I don’t believe you. How is this possible? How is it even possible?”
“Qingqing!” Mrs. Lin couldn’t help herself and rushed over to help Lin Qingqing up since she had fallen onto the ground. Mrs. Lin brushed the tears away from Lin Qingqing’s cheeks too.
Judging by the current situation, Han Muzi knew that Lin Qingqing believed her despite claiming otherwise.
She just can’t accept the reality.
Han Muzi answered calmly, “I’ve told you what is needed. It’s your choice what you choose to believe. There are two hours before court starts. You have time to repent.”
With that, Han Muzi looked away. She turned around, ready to leave the room.
Ye Moxuan’s gaze was dark when he stared at both mother and daughter before leaving the room as well.
Song An glanced at their back views while they left the room. In the end, she approached the mother and daughter before squatting down in front of Lin Qingqing.
“I have to apologize to you about this matter. They both knew each other a long time ago. They were not only acquainted; in fact, they were together five years ago. I’m sure you knew that Ye Moxuan was married five years ago, right?”
Lin Qingqing’s lips quivered upon hearing that. “A-Are you telling me that she’s the former wife everyone has been referring to?”
Song An nodded solemnly.
Lin Qingqing burst out laughing all of a sudden. “I see. It turns out she’s his ex-wife. That explains everything… That explains everything, indeed… No wonder he had a different gaze whenever he looked at her. No wonder he’d agree to meet me each time I brought up Han Muzi. I thought he had a change of heart, and that I finally had my chance. Who would have guessed… that it was all for her?”
“I didn’t expect her to show up here either. I’ve always thought you are an obedient child, and that you’d melt Moxuan’s heart. However, the incident with the sulfuric acid was truly horrendous. Even I can’t forgive you. You are supposed to be a girl, not a devious woman who only does vicious and conniving deeds.”
“Aunty Song, I…” Lin Qingqing’s pale lips parted, but there was only silence.
“Your mother has put in a lot of effort to save you. If you refuse to repent, there will be no hope of you getting out of here. There are two hours left. You had better make the right choice.”
With that, Song An patted Lin Qingqing’s shoulder before turning around to leave the room.
The sun outside was warm and bright while the wind fluttered Han Muzi’s long and silky hair behind her back. She stood still while staring at the cars zooming by in front of her, and her heart calmed down gradually.
She was trying to put herself in Lin Qingqing’s shoes.
Would I have felt the same, that I’d been robbed of my arranged date?
To be honest, I would most probably have the same thought if I weren’t aware of the truth.
However, would I have splashed sulfuric acid at someone else?
Han Muzi shut her eyes and inhaled deeply.
I am absolutely sure I would never do that.
After all, during my very first marriage, when the mistress became my former husband’s wife, I chose to leave in silence. I did not have the ability to fight back.
Why, though? That was because…
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 508
That man doesn’t love me at all. Why should I jeopardize my future and harm others for his sake since he’s not even in love with me?
“Do you regret it?” A cold, hard voice rang behind her. Han Muzi turned around and saw Ye Moxuan standing right behind her.
She smiled faintly. “Regret about what?”
Ye Moxuan gazed at her with a calm expression. He spoke after a short pause, “My intention is not to let her off the hook.”
“I know that.” Han Muzi nodded. “However, her mother and your aunt hope that you’d forgive her this time.”
“What about you?” Ye Moxuan changed the topic suddenly while staring at her unblinkingly. “What do you hope for? Do you hope that I’d let her off the hook too?”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his sudden question. Why does this person always direct the question back to me? She regarded him in silence for a while before asking him, “I thought you knew my answer long ago.”
Ye Moxuan couldn’t help but smile at her response. Then, he reached out and brushed her hair away from her cheek with his fingertips. “What can I do? I know that I shouldn’t let her go. However, my dear wife is very kind, and so I have no choice but to let her off the hook this time.”
Han Muzi wasn’t sure what to say, and so she took a step back to be out of Ye Moxuan’s reach.
Ye Moxuan had a sudden sense of loss when her hair slipped through his fingers. He stood rooted to the spot with his arm frozen mid-air, and he left it hanging for several seconds without moving.
After pondering for a while, Han Muzi made her way to his back before asking him, “How are your injuries? Are you able to withstand the pain especially since we have been out for quite some time?”
Ye Moxuan finally lowered his hand slowly upon hearing that. He didn’t answer Han Muzi right away; instead, he turned around while gazing scorchingly at her. “Are you worried about me?”
Han Muzi did not answer him; instead, she shut her eyes and inhaled deeply before nodding. “I suppose so. You are a patient, after all.”
Ye Moxuan looked at her with resentment. “In that case, can I ask you for a favor?”
“What is it?”
“My back hurts now.”
Han Muzi looked at him questioningly.
“Let me lean against you,” answered Ye Moxuan.
With that, a tall and well-built figure leaned against her shamelessly. He rested his head against Han Muzi’s shoulder. Despite not exerting much strength, Han Muzi’s slender figure staggered a couple steps under his weight before she was able to steady herself.
“Hey!” Han Muzi glanced at the man who was leaning against her shoulder. She was rather annoyed, but she mostly felt helpless. He truly is different after five years. He is now pretty thick-skinned, and he’s shameless as well.
As if something struck her suddenly, Han Muzi warned him, “We are at a huge crossroad. If a reporter gets a picture of this…”
“So what? You are my woman. Everyone on the internet knows anyway. You just have to admit it if someone took a picture of us.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his response. Forget it. I shall give him a break since he’s a patient.
After about ten minutes, Mrs. Lin appeared in front of Han Muzi again and gazed at her in embarrassment. “I’m truly sorry, Miss Han. In the beginning, I truly thought that after suffering in jail, my child would repent. Who would have thought she’d say those horrible things to you? It is my fault as a mother, and that is why I’m here to apologize to you in person. I’ve reprimanded her just now, and after you explained everything, Miss Han, Qingqing was rather embarrassed after reflecting upon the entire incident. That is why she’s hoping to apologize to you. She hopes that you’d give her another chance, Miss Han.”
Han Muzi looked at her calmly while maintaining a blank expression. However, Song An, who was standing right beside them, reminded her, “The fact that she is willing to wait right here shows that she is soft-hearted. Let’s go in now and see Lin Qingqing’s attitude this time.”
Han Muzi’s lips parted. She finally nodded and entered the visitor’s room again.
Lin Qingqing was significantly calmer than before during this meeting. Her eyes were slightly unfocused; the hatred from earlier was gone, but she still looked reluctant.
When the group entered, she pushed her hair away while speaking to Han Muzi in a quiet voice, “Can I have a word with you in private?”
Han Muzi was astounded, but she nodded in the end. “Sure.”
“No.” Ye Moxuan rejected her wishes straight away. He then wrapped his arm around Han Muzi’s waist. “You can’t be alone with her.” That woman is capable of splashing sulfuric acid. What if she tries to harm Han Muzi again when I’m not around?
A flash of pain gleamed in Lin Qingqing’s eyes. “Do you not trust me at all? I’m already repenting now. I just want to have a word with her in private. Besides… I’ve been cooped up here for such a long time. How could I possibly have any weapons on me? How could I possibly harm her?”
There are security guards guarding the area. I suppose she wouldn’t be able to do anything out of the ordinary. Besides, her gaze is different from before now. Han Muzi weighed her options before turning around to speak to Ye Moxuan, “You guys should head out first. I’ll speak with her in private.”
“Muzi!” Ye Moxuan frowned unhappily. “Do you have a death wish?”
“No, I don’t.” Han Muzi pursed her ruby-red lips while staring at Ye Moxuan. “I treasure my life much more than you do yours.” It’s because I’m not alone. I’m now a mother; I have to keep myself safe in order to protect Little Bean. That is why I would never put my life at risk.
“Listen to her,” Song An chipped in.
Ye Moxuan pouted, thereupon he shifted focus to Lin Qingqing while staring at her sharply. His steely gaze sent shivers down Lin Qingqing’s spine, and she had no choice but to lower her eyes since she didn’t have the courage to meet his gaze.
I truly regret my actions. I shouldn’t have done that. Ye Moxuan wouldn’t have hated me so much right now if I hadn’t done that. He’s now treating me as if I’m a dangerous person. Lin Qingqing was overwhelmed by regret when she thought of it.
“Holler at me if you need me. I’ll be right at the door.” Finally, Ye Moxuan went along with Han Muzi’s wishes. However, he was still worried about her, and so he stood at the door, unwilling to go any farther away.
Lin Qingqing couldn’t care less if he were skulking at the entrance. She was satisfied as long as they weren’t in the same room.
“What do you want to say? You can say it now.”
Lin Qingqing laughed bitterly while looking up at Han Muzi. “Your life is indeed blissful.”
“You sent everyone away just to tell me that?” Han Muzi sat down in front of her.
Lin Qingqing’s gaze had a hidden sense of bitterness. “Why is God so unfair? I thought I had finally met a good man, and that I would eventually change his mind since there was a chance. I thought he would be mine as long as I worked hard. However… you showed up. Initially, I thought you were trying to get closer to him by using me. In the end, I learned that you are his ex-wife.”
Han Muzi was stunned to silence at the term ‘ex-wife’, but she regained her composure swiftly.
Ye Moxuan and I might still be married, but… to outsiders, we’ve been divorced for five years. From an outsider’s perspective, I am already his former wife.
“Since you already left, why did you come back again?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 509
Why did you come back again? It wasn’t the first time someone had asked her this. Almost everyone who learned about her past asked the same thing.
Why do I want to come back? This is where I grew up. I left five years ago in despair and changed my name. Now that I feel like I’m capable of facing everything, I came back. Is there a problem?
She raised her head and quietly glanced at Lin Qingqing. “Regarding my return, does it have anything to do with you?” Why do they all have to ask? I came back because I wanted to.
“Is it because of him?” Lin Qingqing bit her lower lip and asked in dissatisfaction. “But your attitude toward him is so indifferent. It’s not for him, is it?”
“What does it have to do with you?” Han Muzi replied.
“Of course it does.” Lin Qingqing still felt unsatisfied. “If you don’t like him, I might still stand a chance, but if you came back for him, I would stand no chance at all.”
Han Muzi didn’t know what to say. In fact, she was speechless. After all that Li Qinqing did, she was still thinking of Ye Moxuan. Han Muzi then sniggered and said, “Your mother said you are sorry and wanted to apologize to me? Is this what you regret?”
“Me being sorry and me liking him are two different stories. It’s my fault for attacking you with sulfuric acid, but at that time I genuinely thought you snatched him away from me, so I did such an unforgivable act. I sincerely regret it and want to apologize, but…”
“But you haven’t given up and think you still stand a chance?”
Lin Qingqing’s thoughts were exposed. She didn’t deny it and just looked down.
“I like him a lot. I know you are his ex-wife, but if you no longer have feelings for him, shouldn’t you give others a chance? This incident was indeed my fault and I sincerely apologize. I’m sorry!” With that, Lin Qingqing even stood up, stared at Han Muzi seriously, and bowed as she apologized.
Han Muzi was quite surprised. She thought it would be difficult to get her to apologize, but her attitude was very good. Did her attitude change because she learned the truth? What is going on in this girl’s mind?
Originally, Han Muzi only came here because of Aunty Song. Now that she was willing to apologize and show remorse for her actions, Han Muzi considered this an improvement. At least it wouldn’t make it difficult for her.
“You are not going to go against me anymore after this, right?” Han Muzi asked.
Hearing that, Lin Qingqing froze a little. She then shook her head. “Although I hate you, I’m not unreasonable. Previously, I thought you did it on purpose and I wanted to punish you. The sulfuric acid’s concentration wasn’t very high; it was diluted. Or else…”
Hearing that, Han Muzi squinted her eyes. “So you think that you’re kind just because you diluted the sulfuric acid?”
“No. It’s just that I looked it up online and found that diluted sulfuric acid is not as bad, so…”
Han Muzi was beyond words; she had no idea what else to say to her. She closed her eyes and said, “Although I forgive you, you hurt Ye Moxuan and you must be punished.”
“I know.” Lin Qingqing lowered her head. “It’s all my fault. I’ve learned my mistake. If I ever attack you again, I will be struck by lightning. Also, I will lock myself here for some time and think about my mistakes.”
“I hope you keep your promise.” Han Muzi pressed her lips together and stood up. “If you never regretted it sincerely, you would be wasting your mom’s effort. Besides, I’m not forgiving you. I’m just… sympathizing with your mom.” With that, Han Muzi turned around and left.
Lin Qingqing was still sitting there, figuring out the meaning of her sentence. She soon realized. Did my mom plead with Han Muzi and managed to move her?
Han Muzi went back to the hospital with Ye Moxuan after she left. Song An was probably busy and told them to go back first as she smiled. She then went in with Mrs. Lin.
After sending Ye Moxuan back to the hospital, Han Muzi asked about his wound.
“You don’t have to be concerned about my wound. If you are willing to show me more affection, I would be able to recover quickly.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless. She quietly took a look at Ye Moxuan and started packing her things as she said, “Things here are settled. Your wounds…”
“I’m better now? So you’re leaving?” Ye Moxuan looked at her hands that were packing. “Or, are you staying away from me because that woman is no longer a threat?”
Han Muzi’s hands paused and she turned around to look at him. “No, you are overthinking. I’m just tidying up a little.”
“Your plan from the very beginning was to take care of me when I was hurt and leave once I could walk around freely, right?”
Han Muzi pressed her lips together as she stared at Ye Moxuan. That was indeed her plan, but Ye Moxuan was much more difficult to deal with than what she expected. She didn’t know if she should immediately return to her office.
After some thought, she decided to say it differently, “It’s not like that. It’s just that I have a lot of work left to do. You know my business’ nature. I’ve already spent too much time taking care of you for the past few days and the work is piling up. Since you are recovering, I need to go back to my office.”
“What about after finishing your work?”
She tried to evade the crucial point but Ye Moxuan didn’t plan to let her go that easily and kept pushing her.
Han Muzi didn’t know how to answer such a sharp question. She could only force a laugh. “It’s quite a lot of work and I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish it in a short while.”
Ye Moxuan’s gaze was sharp and it felt like a knife slicing her skin. Han Muzi couldn’t help but take a step back and coughed, “I will come to visit you occasionally.”
As soon as she stopped speaking, Ye Moxuan asked, “Does that mean you would stay if my wounds are still bad?”
“What?”
“Well?” Ye Moxuan seemed to be confirming something and asked again, “Will you?”
Han Muzi took a deep breath and looked at Ye Moxuan. “I’ve made myself clear enough. What else do you want? You’re making it sound like you’re threatening me by self-harming. Ye Moxuan, if you do so, even if you died, I won’t lay my eyes on you ever again!”
She relayed her thoughts to him in advance to prevent him from self-harming. His gaze and expression made her have a bad feeling.
Ye Moxuan was just asking and didn’t actually think about self-harm, but he couldn’t help but curve his lips when he saw her looking at him nervously as she spoke.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 510
His scorching gaze made Han Muzi’s head numb. “Rest well if you have nothing going on today. I’m leaving,” she said.
“So early?” Ye Moxuan looked at the time. “Stay longer.” The way he spoke so naturally made Han Muzi uneasy.
The man who was questioning her with a stern face was now relaxed. His attitude changed completely. How could his attitude change so quickly?
Han Muzi was angry inside, thereupon she insisted, “No. I have things to do in the afternoon. I have to leave.”
“What things?” Ye Moxuan asked.
Hearing this, Han Muzi’s heart skipped a beat. She had promised to pick Little Bean up from school in the afternoon. Thinking of Little Bean, Han Muzi thought that his looks almost overlapped with Ye Moxuan’s.
As she thought about this, Han Muzi coughed. “Nothing much, but I have to go. Rest well and I’ll come visit you tomorrow when I’m free.”
“What about my dinner? Are you not coming to deliver my dinner?” He was whining.
Han Muzi thought to herself, He doesn’t have anyone who can cook for him, and it’s a little unrealistic for Xiao Su to bring him food. A man like Xiao Su could probably only buy him food. No, that can’t be right. Han Muzi shook her head. Am I dumb? Ye Moxuan is from a wealthy family and has a chef at home. He doesn’t have to worry about his meals, does he?
Han Muzi then replied, “I will think about it and bring you food if I’m free.” With that, she took her bag and left without giving him the chance to speak again.
Han Muzi sighed in great relief after she left the ward. Thank God she escaped quickly enough. If she didn’t, Ye Moxuan’s next question would probably be ‘What if you’re not free?’. By then, she would have to come up with another excuse. How scary would that be?
At the thought of that, Han Muzi quickly left the hospital.
At the school, many people were waiting by the door. Han Muzi looked at her watch. It was five more minutes before Little Bean’s class finished; she would just have to wait a while more.
She waited for around five minutes and the bell finally rang. The teacher then led out a group of children who were lined up.
With safety considerations in mind, the teachers here would recognize each parent and call out the names of their children accordingly. Han Muzi stood out in the crowd and the teacher saw her immediately. “Little Bean, your mom is here.” She smiled.
Han Muzi hadn’t been to school many times, but due to her appearance and the attention Little Bean got in school, they all remembered her.
Little Bean’s head popped out from the line and he looked out when his name was called. Their gaze met in midair and Little Bean’s indifferent pupils instantly glimmered. He then ran toward Han Muzi.
“Slow down. Don’t trip,” the teacher warned as she saw this. She was scared that he would fall.
Han Muzi finally came to pick Little Bean up in person after so many days. For the past few days, he had been seeing Aunt Yan. Although he liked her, he liked his mom more. Therefore, Little Bean ran quickly and soon reached Han Muzi’s side.
Han Muzi was nervous to see him run that fast as she was worried that he would fall. She quickly squatted down to grab him. Little Bean then pounced into her embrace. Although it looked strong, Little Bean decreased the force of his impact when he reached her so that Han Muzi, who was in heels, wouldn’t fall back.
“Mommy, you are finally here!” Little Bean hugged her neck affectionately.
“Yes. Did I keep my promise?” Han Muzi reached out to grab Little Bean’s soft hands.
“Yes!” Little Bean nodded.
“Let’s go!” Han Muzi got up, held Little Bean’s hand, and said, “We are going to the supermarket.”
Since she had time, Han Muzi decided to go to the supermarket with him and cherish the moments they had together. The two of them smiled as they left and everyone around realized they had been staring.
“We’ll go home after getting groceries and I will cook for you tonight. Cool?” The two of them went to the nearest supermarket. It was quite a massive one, and it was a walking distance from their house.
They started shopping. Probably because she was happy, Han Muzi decided to cook a few more dishes that night, so she bought quite a lot. After buying groceries, she remembered something. She smiled as she handed her phone to Little Bean.
“Call your uncle and tell him to come for dinner tonight.”
Hearing that, Little Bean looked up and didn’t take her phone. Instead, he looked at her in curiosity and asked, “Mommy, why don’t you call him yourself?”
Han Muzi’s smile froze a little and she pinched Little Bean’s face awkwardly. “Why? Can’t you make a phone call for me?”
“Did you make uncle mad? Is that why you’re afraid of calling him?” Little Bean shook his head.
Han Muzi was speechless. She indeed made Han Qing angry.
Han Qing didn’t want her to meet Ye Moxuan, but she kept going to the hospital recently because he was injured. There was a lot to do and she didn’t have time to think about Han Qing. Now that it was settled, she recalled the words she said to Han Qing and realized she went overboard. He is my brother, my greatest support. When I was hurt badly, it was my brother who supported me all this time. Now that I turned my back on him to take care of the man who once hurt me, of course he would be mad.
Han Muzi pouted and couldn’t make her mind up.
“Mommy, if you don’t dare to make the call, I can call for you, but you will have to speak.”
“Forget it then.” With that, she smiled and kept her phone. She decided to send him a message later that night instead.
But Little Bean got mad. He pouted and said, “You are mean. Uncle Qing is so nice to you, but you refuse to call him.” With that, Little Bean jumped down from the shopping cart. “I don’t want to talk to you anymore.”
His little figure ran away so fast that Han Muzi couldn’t stop him. Before she could react, Little Bean had already disappeared.
