Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 511
She turned a corner and didn’t see Little Bean, but she wasn’t worried. The supermarket was massive and they were on the third floor, so she wasn’t worried about it at all and thought Little Bean was just messing around.
Therefore, she just pushed the shopping cart and spoke, “Little Bean, it’s not that I don’t want to call your uncle. It’s just he was so fierce the other day and I’m a little scared. I’m so kind to you and even brought you to the supermarket. Will you just make the call for me?”
“Besides, don’t you think that since you are younger, it’s more likely for him to agree if you made the call? What if I called and he’s still mad at me and refuses to come?”
“Think about it. These are losses, right? Please just help me and call your uncle?”
Han Muzi spoke a lot, yet Little Bean gave no response.
Han Muzi frowned a little. “Little Bean? Why are you not speaking? Do you not agree with what I said? Fine, I know I’m wrong. Come out now and I’ll call your uncle.”
But she still didn’t get any response. Han Muzi felt a little strange and started pushing the shopping cart around to look for Little Bean. She started getting anxious when she couldn’t find Little Bean after a while. “Little Bean, stop messing around and come out.”
“I will get mad if you don’t come out…”
“I’m getting angry!”
Still, there was no response.
Han Muzi’s breathing started getting rapid and her face turned pale. She subconsciously tightened the grip on the shopping cart. Soon, she abandoned the shopping cart and frantically traipsed around in her high heels, looking for Little Bean.
“Little Bean, come out!” she called his name as she walked.
But Little Bean still didn’t respond to her and it made Han Muzi even more worried.
Could it be… Her steps paused and she thought of Lin Qingqing, whom she just met in the detention center today. Her eyes were filled with hatred although she sincerely repented. But… she’s capable of doing something like that. Was I wrong for trusting her?
Little Bean had always been considerate and obedient. He would never do something as far fetched as leaving her. What is going on? Han Muzi was so anxious that her eyes were red.
But she halted at the next corner, for she saw a small, familiar figure before her.
Han Muzi froze for a few seconds, then ran over and hugged that small figure. “Little Bean, you scared me… It was all my fault. Please don’t do that again.”
When Little Bean was hugged, he came back to his senses and blinked. However, he didn’t respond.
“Do you hear me? Don’t ever do this again. Please promise me.” Realizing that he wasn’t speaking, Han Muzi pressed on his shoulder, turned him over, and requested.
Little Bean blinked at her and finally reached out to hug her. “Mommy, I’m fine.”
Looking at him, Han Muzi felt relieved, as if she had found her long-lost treasure. She reached out and hugged him tightly once again. “Don’t scare me like this again. My heart can’t take it.”
“Mommy…”
“Qi?” Just as Han Muzi was holding Little Bean and talking to him, she heard someone calling her by her old name. Her body froze. This voice…
Han Muzi looked up and saw a familiar figure. It felt as if a hammer had hit her heart and her world was collapsing. The color on her lips faded instantly as she felt like she fell into an ice cave. How could this be… How could I run into him here?
“Mommy?” Perhaps sensing something was wrong, Little Bean called her.
His soft voice pulled Han Muzi back. She realized what happened when she got back to her senses.
Han Muzi forced herself to calm down and quickly came up with a plan. She then got up slowly. In the end, she went with the stupidest thing she could’ve done; she looked at the person and gave him an unfamiliar smile. “Sir, I think you’ve made a mistake.” With that, she grabbed Little Bean’s hand and walked in the opposite direction.
Although Little Bean didn’t know what was going on, he could feel the force from Han Muzi’s hands. It was so strong that it was a little painful. He looked up at Han Muzi and didn’t dare to speak when he realized that her face and lips were pale.
On the other hand, Ye Linhan stood there with his hand still holding a bottle of wine he took from the shelf. He stared in surprise at the tall, thin woman leaving with a little boy.
It was the face in his memory. Although she got prettier, her face and that pair of eyes were still the same. It’s her. I can’t be wrong with that look. But… she said I made a mistake. Why?
After hesitating for a few seconds, Ye Linhan put the bottle back and went after them.
After a turn, Han Muzi held Little Bean’s hands and walked to the shopping cart. Little Bean understood the situation and didn’t speak. He just followed her and looked up at her face from time to time.
But Han Muzi’s mind was muddled then. I ran into Ye Linhan here. He saw Little Bean, didn’t he? What is he thinking now? Will he come find me after this? She felt messed up inside. All she wanted to do was to get out of there. But things never went according to her plans. After a while, she heard footsteps from the back and someone soon grabbed her wrist. “Qi? It’s you, right?”
Han Muzi felt as if her blood froze. She stopped, but she didn’t look back. “Sir, I told you, you’ve got the wrong person.” Her voice turned cold as if it was going to freeze.
Ye Linhan frowned and looked at her with a complicated gaze.
“Sir, please show some respect. Let go of me.”
Ye Linhan heard her and slowly released her, but he didn’t leave and just stared at her face. “We haven’t met for five years and you won’t even say hi to me? You left without saying goodbye. Didn’t you think that someone would have been worried about you?”
Ye Linhan’s words made her suffocate. She slowly turned around to look at him. She had no love or hatred for Ye Linhan. She rarely thought of him for the past few years although Han Xueyou told her that Ye Linhan was the stranger on that night.
After all, she has been subconsciously resisting that thought all this time.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 512
The older Little Bean got, the more he looked like Ye Moxuan.
Another thought arose in her mind, but she figured it was impossible after some thought.
Han Muzi looked at him and her eyes made Ye Linhan think she was going to acknowledge him. But in the next second, Han Muzi looked away and said indifferently, “Sir, you’ve got the wrong person. I have things to do, so please stop following me.” With that, Han Muzi pushed the shopping cart, pulled Little Bean, and left before his eyes.
Ye Linhan didn’t go after her this time. He just stood there in shock. She still refused to talk to him after he said all that. Did I do something wrong back then?
Ye Linhan was upset. I’ve been thinking about her for the past five years, yet she refused to even acknowledge me. As he thought about this, he quickly went after her.
Han Muzi pushed the shopping cart to the front desk to check out their items while Little Bean followed by her side obediently, holding her purse and helping her with the smaller bags. They soon left the supermarket after paying.
However, someone was following them. It was Ye Linhan. Perhaps because she refused to recognize him, he was unwilling to give up and had been following them since they left the supermarket.
Han Muzi had a straight face on as they walked. Little Bean looked back and carefully pulled Han Muzi’s shirt. “Mommy, that mister has been following us all this time.”
Hearing that, Han Muzi paused slightly, but she did not stop. She bit her lower lips and said, “Little Bean, just ignore him and keep walking.”
“But… do you not know that mister? If you don’t, why is he following us?” Little Bean asked as he looked up.
Han Muzi wanted to ask the same thing. Why is he following me? Doesn’t he know that it’s rude to follow someone around? But she didn’t want to ask him, and so she wouldn’t.
Han Muzi took a deep breath. She knew that her house was not far away. I can’t let Ye Linhan know that I stay here, otherwise, what would I do if he keeps coming to find me?
Just as she was thinking, she happened to see a barbecue shop by the road. “Little Bean, should we have some food after that long shopping spree?”
Little Bean looked up and asked, “But aren’t we going home to cook?”
“It’s okay.” Han Muzi smiled gently. “Having some barbecue won’t affect dinner. We just can’t eat too much. I’m a little tired of walking. What do you say?”
“Okay then.” Little Bean nodded.
The two of them walked into the barbecue shop and the waiter came up to greet them warmly.
Ye Linhan, who was following them, stopped as well. He stood outside of the barbecue shop and looked around. He was a smart man, after all. When he saw that Han Muzi didn’t take a taxi after buying groceries and instead walked with the kid, he could guess that she lived nearby. Now that she walked into a barbecue shop… She probably didn’t want him to know where she lived.
As a man, if he was gentlemanly, he should have left by now, rather than continue following them and make life difficult for them. But… he hadn’t seen her in five years. She is in this city and I managed to run into her. If I just leave… I don’t think I can live with that.
Ye Linhan clenched his fists and hesitated on whether to leave or not. Just then, his phone rang. He took his phone out and answered it, thereafter his face changed. “I see. I’ll be right there.”
After hanging up the phone, Ye Linhan looked at the two of them in the barbecue shop in dissatisfaction. After some thought, he took his pen out, tore a piece of paper, and wrote his phone number on it. He then stepped into the barbecue shop.
When Ye Linhan sat before Han Muzi and her son, her face looked like it was about to freeze. She had a mean look in her eyes. “Sir, I said I don’t know you. What are you trying to do by following me? If you keep disturbing me, I will call the police to solve this issue.”
Ye Linhan looked at her calmly and spoke gently, “I don’t know why you refuse to acknowledge me, but I know you must have your reasons. I won’t force you if you don’t want to tell me, but I’m willing to wait. This is my number. I’ve been waiting for you for the past five years. If you would like to get to know me again, please contact me.” With that, Ye Linhan left the paper with his number on the desk.
Han Muzi’s eyes didn’t move at all and were still cold.
Ye Linhan cleared his throat. “I still have things to do and I won’t disturb you anymore.” With that, he got up and left. But before he left, he took another look at Little Bean, and that gaze was… meaningful.
He then left in a hurry.
“Mommy, this is the mister’s phone number.” Little Bean took the paper over.
“Han Muzi’s face changed as she whispered to her son, “Throw it away.”
“Throw it?” Little Bean blinked. “But why?”
Han Muzi explained to her son patiently, “Little Bean, I don’t want to have anything to do with him, so I don’t need his number. This paper is useless to me, so just throw it away.” She had decided to gradually detach herself from Ye Moxuan so there was no way she would get herself entangled with another member of the Ye Family.
Ye Linhan… I don’t want to have anything to do with the Ye Family.
“Okay.” Little Bean understood what she meant, so he crumpled up the paper into a ball with his tiny hands, and threw it into the bin.
“Good boy.” Han Muzi pinched Little Bean’s cheek and smiled affectionately.
They then had some barbecue and after Han Muzi confirmed that Ye Linhan had left, she paid the bill and brought Little Bean home.
When the two of them walked past an alleyway, a mother cat leaped out from the bushes when it saw Han Muzi, then rubbed against her foot as it meowed.
“Cat!” Little Bean pointed.
“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded and wanted to bend down to touch it, but she was carrying the groceries. She thought about it and remembered that there was some fish in the bag. “I bought you some fish, but we have to go up first. I will bring it down to you when I’m free later. Go feed your children milk first,” she gently said to the cat.
The cat seemed to understand her and meowed. It then turned around and went back into the bushes.
Han Muzi smiled happily at that. “Good girl.”
“It’s so obedient!” Little Bean exclaimed.
“Well, let’s go back and cook. We’ll take the fish down to them after I’m done cooking.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 513
They then went upstairs. As Han Muzi was carrying the groceries, she didn’t have another pair of hands to open the door. Since Little Bean’s fingerprint was recorded on the lock of the door, he opened the door and the two of them walked in together.
After they entered, Little Bean was considerate enough to change her shoes for her. “Quickly put the things down and rest,” he said.
Han Muzi went to the refrigerator in her house shoes and put the groceries in accordingly. She washed her hands then quickly got changed into her home clothes in the bathroom. She then collapsed onto the sofa.
Getting groceries from the supermarket was tiring. Although the supermarket was close to her house, it was still difficult for a girl to carry so many things by herself.
“Does your arms hurt, Mommy? Let me massage them for you.” Little Bean came to her very thoughtfully and massaged her arms with his tiny hands as he asked, “Are you feeling better?”
Han Muzi was touched as she looked at Little Bean. Who said that only daughters are caring and thoughtful? Boys are warm as well. It all depends on their character.
Little Bean was no different from a caring daughter… Touched, Han Muzi nodded her head. “Of course, I’m feeling much better. Thank you, my Little Bean.”
Being praised, Little Bean laughed happily. He then stood up to massage Han Muzi’s shoulder. He wasn’t using too much or too little strength—it was just the right amount. It was indeed comfortable… And so, Han Muzi slowly closed her eyes contentedly.
In the end, Han Muzi was so comfortable that she was about to fall asleep and Little Bean didn’t disturb her. She then gradually drifted off to sleep.
After her breathing became uniformed, Little Bean quietly got off the sofa, took Han Muzi’s phone, and walked to the balcony to call Han Qing.
Han Muzi felt extremely tired and since Little Bean’s hands were very soft, it was so comfortable that she fell asleep. She had no idea how long she slept, but she vaguely smelled the aroma of food. She had no idea what was going on. How could there be the smell of food in my dream? Could it be…
Han Muzi suddenly thought of something and jumped up. When she sat up, the blanket that was covering her fell off. Wasn’t I going to cook? How did I fall asleep?
“You’re awake?” Just as she was thinking, a deep, male voice came from the front.
Han Muzi looked up in the direction of the voice, only to find Han Qing sitting on the sofa across. He placed his notebook on the table and was working on his documents while bent over.
“Qing?” Han Muzi didn’t expect to see Han Qing here and was dumbfounded. What time is it? Why is Han Qing here? How long did I sleep?
Looking at her dumbfounded look and the dark circles under her eyes, Han Qing felt sorry and angry, at the same time. “I told you not to go but you wouldn’t listen. What’s the point of making yourself so tired?” he scolded.
Han Muzi felt a little embarrassed and her mouth twitched, but she didn’t reply and asked instead, “What time is it? Why are you here?”
“Why?” Han Qing looked at her calmly and asked, “Can’t I come? Besides… weren’t you the one who asked Little Bean to call me to come over? To cook and apologize?”
Han Muzi was speechless. She bit her lower lip awkwardly and said, “Qing, I…”
“Yet you were sleeping when I came over?”
Han Qing’s words made Han Muzi’s ears turn red. She felt embarrassed and reached out to grab her hair. “I-I have no idea how I fell asleep. What time is it? I’ll go cook.” With that, Han Muzi got up to cook. But she soon remembered the aroma of food in her sleep. Now, that scent was all around and felt tangible. Could it be that Yan is cooking?
“No need. Yan is already cooking. You can continue sleeping.”
Han Muzi rubbed her chin awkwardly and said nothing. She then crept into the kitchen. As expected, she saw Yan getting busy in the kitchen with Little Bean helping at the side.
Little Bean smiled brightly when he saw her. “Mommy, you’re awake!”
Han Muzi resisted her temptation to scold him and just nodded. She then looked at Yan and asked, “When did you come back? Why didn’t you wake me up?”
Looking at her embarrassed expression, Yan couldn’t help but laugh. “Why? Isn’t it nice to let you sleep instead of waking you up to get busy?”
“It’s embarrassing.” Han Muzi glared at her when she saw her laugh. “Besides, I planned to cook personally and yet… I fell asleep in the living room.”
I have no idea how long Han Qing had been sitting opposite me. He must’ve seen me sleep. As she thought about this, Han Muzi couldn’t help but cover her face; she looked to be in pain. “You traitor.”
“Haha, you can’t blame me. When I came in, your brother was already here. You know about the foolish things I’ve done. Where would I find the courage to talk to him? I feel even more embarrassed, okay? Did you expect me to wake you after he explicitly told me not to? If I did, I would lose face in front of my crush.”
“Hmph. You’re only concerned about your reputation.”
“Well, you’re the same. You don’t think of me at all.”
The two of them were busy complaining in the kitchen and completely forgot Little Bean who was standing at the side.
Little Bean was a little upset to be ignored, but he was still happy when he thought about it.
“By the way, Aunt Yan cooked the fish. Should we take it down to the stray cat together?”
As he mentioned this, Han Muzi remembered that she was planning to bring the fish down to the stray cat, so she nodded. “Okay. Let’s take the fish down then.”
“Okay!” Little Bean nodded fervently.
Yan brought over a specific plate and there were two cooked fishes on top. “I’ve picked out the bones. You are so kind; why don’t you bring back the litter if you like them so much? It’s a big place anyway, and it’s just the three of us. A few animals would be nice.”
Han Muzi thought about it and concurred. “If we want to keep them, we will have to take them to the vet for a checkup. Little Bean, do you want to keep them?”
“Sure.” Little Bean blinked.
When they took the fish downstairs, Han Muzi suddenly thought of the man who was waiting for her in the hospital.
The reply she gave to him earlier was that she would bring him food if she had the time. It’s so late now. Has he eaten yet? After some thought, Han Muzi figured he probably had. After all, he’s the president of Ye Group and many people are fighting to please him. Why would he have to starve himself?
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 514
While mother and son were feeding the cats downstairs, the mother cat nuzzled against Han Muzi’s palm. It was as if the cat was aware of how dirty it was because it didn’t rub against her body. It didn’t resist when Little Bean reached out to caress it; in fact, it purred gently while Little Bean stroked its head.
“Mommy, the mother cat is so obedient, and the kittens look so pitiful. Why don’t we take them in?”
Han Muzi shared the same thought, and so she nodded in agreement. “Sure, let’s keep them. However, it’s too late today. We will have to do it tomorrow. We’ll place the cats in a box, bring them to a veterinary clinic to have them checked, and then only bring them home.”
“Alright.”
Soon the two of them returned upstairs, and the mother cat returned to the bushes.
Yan already prepared dinner by the time both of them returned. Hence, the four of them sat together at the table to have dinner.
The atmosphere during dinner was slightly odd because Yan was very self-conscious about what was going on between her and Han Qing. Hence, she did not dare look up at Han Qing at all. She had a feeling she would focus on his lips once she looked up, and she would recall how soft his lips felt. Thus, Yan had no choice but to keep her head lowered. She gobbled her rice while feeling disgusted about her filthy thoughts.
On the other hand, the awkwardness between Han Muzi and Han Qing was due to the matter regarding Ye Moxuan. Due to the previous incident, she felt as if there was now an invisible barrier between them. She couldn’t help but feel sad during the meal.
On the contrary, Han Qing was very calm. He tried the first dish and found it delicious. Then, he moved on to the next one and thought it tasted marvelous as well. Therefore, he started sharing and enjoying the meal with Little Bean, whereas Han Muzi and Yan just exchanged glances with each other.
After the meal, Han Muzi thought to herself, The awkwardness between Han Qing and me should be gone by now.
“I’ll do the dishes.” Han Muzi stood up from the table after placing her bowl down. Yan started helping as well, and the two of them cleaned up the table before entering the kitchen together.
Han Muzi’s phone started vibrating in her pocket just when she brought the dishes into the kitchen.
She placed everything down, washed her hands, and checked her phone, only to realize that it was a WeChat message from Ye Moxuan. His message sounded as it always did. It started with a pitiful emoticon, followed by a sentence stating, ‘Are you still busy?’
Han Muzi was stunned when she read that. It took her awhile to realize what he was referring to. I think I mentioned at the hospital that I’d send him dinner if I had the time. However, right now… Han Muzi checked the time, and it was already around 8pm. Has he not eaten anything yet?
Han Muzi replied to his message upon considering the possibilities, ‘I’m not free now. Have you not had your dinner yet?’
Han Muzi was about to put away her phone after sending the message, but Ye Mouxan replied almost instantly, ‘Not yet. What time are you dropping by?’
Han Muzi almost gave in when she read his message. We already had our dinner, but Ye Moxuan is still waiting for me. Would it be mean if I don’t go? But…
After mulling it over, Han Muzi felt that it might be another one of Ye Moxuan’s ploys. After all, recently, he has been acting pitifully, using his injuries as an excuse. There are certain things he is perfectly capable of doing, but he simply refuses to do them. Instead, he insists on relying on me. It’s the same now. Since I’ve decided to get myself out of this situation, I should be more ruthless. I must not be fooled by his words. She then replied after making up her mind, ‘I don’t have time. You should get dinner yourself.’
Han Muzi then put her phone on silent mode and pocketed it. She was determined not to read any future messages from Ye Moxuan.
“What happened?” Yan asked while smiling at her teasingly.
Han Muzi ignored her as she found her smile rather annoying. Hence, Han Muzi rolled her sleeves up and switched the tap water on to rinse the bowls. Yan was still grinning mischievously.
Han Muzi then sneered, “If you continue smiling like that, I’ll toss you to my brother. Why don’t we show your crush your expression right now?”
The gleeful expression and smile vanished from Yan’s face at the mention of Han Qing. She pouted reluctantly at Han Muzi while complaining, “Muzi, you are so mean. You shouldn’t use your brother to threaten me.”
“Oh? Since when have I used my brother to threaten you?” Han Muzi cocked a brow at her. “You are the one scared of him. You did something you feel guilty about, otherwise… would you have been so scared in the past?”
Yan snorted in response to that. Then, she walked toward the sink gloomily and started doing the dishes together with Han Muzi.
After a while, Yan couldn’t help herself and asked Han Muzi out of curiosity, “Was it… a message from Ye Moxuan just now? Why is he texting you so late at night? Is he asking you to drop by the hospital again?”
After all, Han Muzi had been visiting the hospital frequently, but she didn’t go today.
Han Muzi nodded. “Yes, but he is almost fully recovered. I have to get myself out of the situation.”
“You’ve been looking after him for such a long time. Will he be able to get used to your sudden departure?” Yan’s question caused Han Muzi to pause. After that, Han Muzi frowned slightly. “What has it got to do with me if he can’t get used to things as they are now?”
“Oh,” responded Yan. Then, she smiled and asked, “Does that mean you’re not visiting him tonight?”
“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded. “He has many people around him to look after him. Besides, I’ve taken meticulous care of him previously, so I’ve done my part.”
Yan couldn’t bear to comment further since Han Muzi had indicated that she had already fulfilled her responsibility in this matter. The two of them arranged the dishes and tidied up the place before leaving the kitchen.
Han Muzi went upstairs to shower and rest, leaving Yan, Little Bean, and Han Qing in the living room downstairs.
Han Muzi even washed her hair to keep herself occupied. However, the only thing that came to mind when the water sprinkled onto her from the showerhead above was a severely wounded Ye Moxuan. She kept recalling how he lay in the ward while gazing at her with sad and pitiful eyes.
Han Muzi thought she might be losing her mind, and that was why she was having such thoughts. She shook her head, trying to clear her mind. Then, she started rubbing shampoo and body foam diligently—to stay focused.
About an hour had passed by the time she got out of the bathroom. Han Muzi couldn’t help but glance at the clock hanging on the wall. It was already half past 9. He can’t be waiting for me anymore, can he?
Somehow, Han Muzi felt guilty when she started blow-drying her hair. After that, she applied her usual skincare routine in front of her dresser. Her phone was placed right in front of her. She bit her lower lip, but in the end, she was resolute and did not pick her phone up. No matter what happens to him, I’ve made my mind up. I shouldn’t be bothered about what happens to him anymore. When the time comes, and I’m still not there, he will get someone to bring him food anyway. Mm-hmm, that’s how it will be.
Little Bean pushed her bedroom door open while rubbing his eyes. “Mommy, I’m sleepy now.”
Han Muzi pinched his cheeks. “Have you showered? If you have, go ahead and brush your teeth before bed.”
“Alright, I’ll go and brush my teeth now. Mommy, goodnight!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 515
Little Bean climbed into bed and tucked himself into his small blanket; he was soon fast asleep.
Han Muzi couldn’t calm down despite looking at her child sound asleep. I should be sleeping at this hour too.
However, her mind was in a mess, and it was filled with images of Ye Moxuan’s forlorn figure in the ward. Han Muzi! Get yourself together! He is Ye Moxuan! He isn’t some three-year-old child! He doesn’t need me to look after him. I am humiliating myself thinking about him constantly. I am not his nanny. Why should I care so much about him?
After making up her mind, Han Muzi returned to bed and lay down. She shut her eyes and lay in a daze for a while before opening her eyes again. Time started ticking by, and it was almost 11pm now.
Han Muzi couldn’t resist the agony in her heart. She snuck out of bed and checked her phone. She realized Ye Moxuan sent her several WeChat messages.
‘Didn’t you say you’d come to see me when you’re free? I’ll wait for you if you’re busy now.’ He had sent this WeChat message when Han Muzi placed her phone down much earlier.
Half an hour after that, he sent another message, asking hesitantly, ‘Are you still busy?’
Then, since there was no reply, he sent another message. ‘I’m waiting for you at the hospital entrance. Come over when you’re free. You will see me once you arrive at the hospital.’ He sent this message at 9pm.
At half past 9, he sent another. ‘I’ve waited for half an hour. Do you have the heart to keep me waiting?’
At 10pm. ‘I’m hungry.’
At half past 10. ‘It’s slightly cold.’
Finally, at 11pm. ‘Are you not coming yet? There’s no one left at the hospital entrance.’
She received the last message not too long ago. Han Muzi’s expression changed slightly. She matched the timings of his messages, and they were accurate. Damn it. He can’t possibly still be waiting at the hospital entrance now, can he? Has he not eaten all night?
Han Muzi lost her cool at the thought of him waiting for her for hours at the hospital entrance despite the severe injuries on his back. She felt like a sinner. Without a second thought, she grabbed her jacket and left the house. She rushed to the entrance of the residential community alone in the middle of the night to flag a cab down. Then, she immediately headed to the hospital.
The car ride took about twenty minutes. Han Muzi stared at his last message, and she felt extremely anxious. He is old enough. Why would he do something so reckless like a teenager?
Han Muzi cursed him countless times in her heart while urging the cab driver, “Sir, please go faster. My friend is waiting for me.”
The cab driver was taking his time initially. Upon receiving her request, he had no choice but to nod. “Sure, I’ll speed up, but safety first.”
“Thank you.” Han Muzi looked down at her phone to check if there were any new messages from Ye Moxuan. She wasn’t sure if he had gone back into the hospital already.
After twenty minutes, Han Muzi finally arrived at the hospital entrance. After paying her cab fare, she pushed open the door and got out of the car. She ran forward in a rush, but she didn’t see Ye Moxuan at the hospital entrance. Has he gone back in?
Han Muzi was panting hard since she ran very fast. She raised her phone to check if Ye Moxuan had sent her another message. At that moment, a voice came from behind her. “I thought you weren’t coming…”
A familiar voice rang behind Han Muzi unexpectedly. Her body stiffened, but she turned around and saw Ye Moxuan’s tall and thin figure leaning against the branches of a large tree. He had both hands in the pockets of his patient gown. His handsome silhouette was partially hidden in the night, but one could still vaguely make out his pale lips and his frailty.
Han Muzi felt as if a large hand was squeezing her heart while twisting and turning it unscrupulously. This feeling almost suffocated her. She then closed her eyes and inhaled deeply in an attempt to calm herself down. After she calmed down slightly, Han Muzi took small steps toward the man under the tree. One step after another, she slowly approached him.
Under the dim street lamps, their shadows were elongated and cast on the ground.
“Why… are you still here—argh!” Han Muzi asked when she got closer. However, the man who remained stationary while leaning against the tree branch, reached out suddenly to grab her. He held onto her shoulder and pinned her against the large tree trunk.
Han Muzi cried out in surprise, and just when she was anticipating the pain on her back from the impact against the tree, a pair of arms cushioned the blow. The next thing she knew, her vision went dark because Ye Moxuan’s cold and dry lips came down upon her without warning.
“Mmph!” Han Muzi’s eyes opened wide in shock while she stared incredulously at Ye Moxuan.
His beautiful eyes were closed now, and his lightly fluttering eyelashes made him look vulnerable. It felt as if he might collapse at the slightest shove.
However, the sensation on Han Muzi’s lips kept her alert. She reached out to push against his chest, and Ye Moxuan responded with a guttural whine, as if in excruciating pain. He sounded like an animal that was struggling moments before its death, and she just didn’t have the heart to hurt him further. Hence, she stopped pushing him.
Ye Moxuan took advantage of this and moved forward to devour her sweetness and fragrance. She was still warm since she came right out of bed, and it was a stark contrast from his icy-coldness after waiting in the dark all this time. It so happened that he needed her warmth.
Ye Moxuan snatched up her sweetness greedily, rendering it impossible for Han Muzi to struggle. She resisted him initially, but she gradually went along with him. Toward the end, she even reciprocated. Finally, the two of them were entangled in a hug.
Time passed, and a car passing by must have snapped Han Muzi back to her senses. She pushed Ye Moxuan away hastily.
Ye Moxuan seemed satiated because he released his lips and tongue from her willingly.
The two of them were out of breath. Han Muzi’s lips were red and swollen as she glared at him with her enchanting eyes. “Are you a fool?” she asked angrily.
Ye Moxuan knew the reason she was scolding him, and so he responded with his usual beautiful smile. He leaned against Han Muzi intimately and nuzzled her forehead tenderly before acknowledging her question with a grunt.
“What does that mean? I’m asking if you’re a fool. Are you admitting that you are one?”
“Mm-hmm.” Ye Moxuan closed his eyes and nodded with a grunt again.
Han Muzi was exasperated with his response, and just when she was about to scold him, Ye Moxuan reached out suddenly and wrapped his arms around her tightly. Then, he buried his face in her embrace. “As long as you are willing to show up, I am happy to be a fool.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless. She stood still while he hugged her. Her chin was resting on his shoulder, and the air around her was shrouded by his strong and forceful aura.
Despite his injuries, and him waiting in the middle of the night outside for several hours.
Despite… him looking so vulnerable.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 516
When he’s facing me, he’s always so strong and forceful. He is still so strong and forceful… even when he is the one who has been begging me to come over. However, he sounds so humble, and it doesn’t sound like him at all. Is it because of me?
Han Muzi closed her eyes, and she felt as if there was a flame burning in her heart. In the end, her eyelashes fluttered while she reached out and tentatively hugged him back.
After ten minutes, the two of them returned to the ward.
The hospital room was warm, and Han Muzi led Ye Moxuan to his bed. She was in the middle of turning around to pour a glass of water when Ye Moxuan grabbed her. “Where are you going?” He sounded anxious, and he stared at her with a deep frown.
Han Muzi stared at him helplessly. “Your hands are ice-cold. I’m pouring a glass of water for you.”
“You aren’t leaving?” He had to ask as if he did not believe her.
Han Muzi shook her head. “I’m not leaving.” You’re already acting like this. Wouldn’t you just end up waiting outside again, in the cold wind, if I were to leave? This was Han Muzi’s thoughts, but she didn’t voice them out.
“Quick, let go of me.” Han Muzi pushed his hand away, but Ye Moxuan refused to loosen his grip. Han Muzi then demanded in exasperation, “You don’t want to let go of me? Fine, get up, and follow me to get a glass of water.”
Ye Moxuan pouted when he heard that and finally loosened his grip on her.
Upon freeing herself, Han Muzi could finally go and pour him a glass of water. She handed Ye Moxuan a glass of lukewarm water. “Quick, drink up. You’ve waited outside for several hours. It’s so cold outside, and your wounds have yet to fully recover. Why didn’t you wait inside?”
Ye Moxuan accepted the glass of water and took a few sips before looking up at her. The passion in his gaze made it seem as if he was afraid she might disappear any second now.
Han Muzi felt uncomfortable under his gaze and looked away. “Drink your water.”
Ye Moxuan then lowered his head to drink his water, and Han Muzi turned back to stare at him. “You are not to use such a hair shirt approach to trick me in the future. I already told you that I wasn’t free to drop by, and you should have gone ahead and got some food for yourself. It’s not like you don’t have a family here. You are the President of Ye Group. You can get whatever you want to eat effortlessly.”
“But I just want you,” Ye Moxuan stated while gazing at her sincerely.
Han Muzi was astounded for a while. “I’m not your nanny, and I can’t possibly send you food every day,” she explained directly. “Do you understand me? I’m not your full-time nanny. Previously, I was sending you food because I was looking after you, but… I can’t do that every day because I have a job of my own.”
“I know.” Ye Moxuan nodded. Then, his lips parted and he suggested quietly, “To be honest, you just have to visit me; you don’t need to bring me food.”
Han Muzi answered him swiftly, “That’s impossible too because I do not have so much free time.”
“In that case, I’ll go see you.” Ye Moxuan was quick in coming up with solutions.
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by his response. She blinked several times, then answered him helplessly, “That won’t do too.”
“Why not?” he asked her innocently while gazing at her fixedly.
Han Muzi stared at him too, and she had to fight the urge to question him. Don’t you know what you did all those years ago? How can you possibly pester me, while acting so innocently now, after what you did?
However, before she could voice her thoughts, Ye Moxuan’s face suddenly turned a ghostly white. Then, he placed a hand over his stomach while moaning in pain.
“What is it?” Han Muzi panicked and rushed toward Ye Moxuan.
Ye Moxuan was pressing a hand over his stomach, and cold sweat beaded across his forehead. His stomach churned excruciatingly at that moment, rendering him momentarily speechless. “I’m fine,” he replied while struggling with the harrowing pain.
He looks far from fine. Han Muzi saw his hand over his stomach, and something struck her. “Have you not had your dinner yet?”
Despite his distorted expression, Ye Moxuan shook his head.
Han Muzi commented in resignation, “You truly are a fool.” Isn’t he a fool to skip dinner just to wait for me? How can he not care for his well being just for the sake of waiting for me? In any case, forget about dinner, he unflinchingly pounced in front of me to shield me from that sulfuric acid splash.
Han Muzi didn’t comment further upon reminding herself of what happened. She reached out to rub his stomach while remarking, “Move your hand away.”
Seeing as she was about to help him, Ye Moxuan shifted his hand away obediently. After that, Han Muzi placed her small and warm palm over his stomach and started rubbing gently.
The two of them were merely inches apart, and even their breaths were mingled. Ye Moxuan was in a trance while gazing at a serious Han Muzi. His pale lips slowly curled into a frail smile. “That’s nice.” He sighed.
Han Muzi looked up and glanced at him questioningly. She noticed he was smiling contentedly, and so she frowned at him. “What is wrong with you? What’s nice when you are in so much pain?”
“Mm-hmm.” Despite his ghostly-pale face, Ye Mouxan didn’t appear as if he was suffering; on the contrary, he was nodding in satisfaction.
Han Muzi was at a loss for words at his response. She had a good idea of why he was saying that. He is a fool. No doubt about that now. She ignored him upon coming to that conclusion.
After he relaxed, Han Muzi took her phone out and opened the Mei Tuan Takeout APP. “It’s too late now. There isn’t enough time for me to head back to prepare you a meal, so I’m ordering a bowl of porridge for you.”
Since it was quite late, there were many shops available, and that included the ones with porridge options. After going through several shops, Han Muzi finally settled with a promising restaurant. She ordered a bowl of porridge and several side dishes. Once the restaurant accepted the order, she phoned the restaurant to request a more diluted porridge and for them to use less oil in cooking the side dishes in her order. Han Muzi put her phone away after the restaurant agreed to her requests.
Han Muzi was exhausted after the events of the night. After sitting down in the chair, she subconsciously picked up the cup that was by her side for a couple of sips of water. When she looked up, she realized Ye Moxuan was staring at her lustfully. He’s sick but he’s still the same man.
Han Muzi hissed at him, “What are you looking at? Lie down and rest. The porridge will be arriving soon.”
Ye Moxuan had a ghost of a smile plastered across his face, and he gazed at her lovingly. “Were you aware that you were using my cup?”
Han Muzi was astounded when she heard that. She looked down at the cup she had in her hand before realizing slowly what he meant. That sounds about right…
I poured a glass of water for him in this particular cup earlier. However, he had a sudden bout of gastritis pain, and so I took the cup away from him to place it at the side. I didn’t even give it a second thought when I picked it up for a drink. Who would have expected Ye Moxuan to expose me after drinking his cup of water?
Han Muzi lost her cool, and she placed the cup on the table while asking coldly, “Who says that the cup is yours? I poured the water myself; besides, I switched out a new cup of water earlier.”
“Oh, when did you do that?” Ye Moxuan appeared composed as he calmly watched her.
Han Muzi forced a smile. “I did it while I was making the phone call.”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 517
However, it was apparent that Ye Moxuan didn’t believe her. Just when he was about to say something, Han Muzi got up abruptly. “I need to use the bathroom.”
She stayed in the bathroom for a very long time. In fact, she didn’t come out of the bathroom until the delivery boy phoned her. Ye Moxuan stared at her from the moment she left the bathroom to collect the takeout at the entrance of the ward.
The delivery boy spotted her once she came out of the ward, and so he came over to hand over her order.
Since it was late at night, the delivery boy even flashed Han Muzi a finger heart. “Dear pretty miss, enjoy your meal! Please give me a good rating if you are free later.”
Han Muzi nodded numbly. Upon nodding, she felt an intense murderous stare from behind. It seemed that Ye Moxuan was looking in her direction.
The delivery boy must have noticed Ye Moxuan’s foul mood because he flashed Han Muzi a quick smile and left in a hurry.
Han Muzi closed the hospital room door with one hand and turned around to place the takeout on the table. The restaurant she chose had excellent reviews and packaging. The packaging they used were all food-grade, unlike the small takeaway shops with only a storefront without proper seating. Han Muzi tried this restaurant before, and she thought it was rather good.
She took the porridge out to let out the hot steam before shifting it to the table in front of Ye Moxuan.
“You should have several mouthfuls of porridge first.” She glowered at Ye Moxuan in exasperation when she said that.
Ye Moxuan stood still while staring back at her with a pale face. “Feed me.”
Han Muzi stared at him in bewilderment. I must have heard wrongly.
“I’m having gastritis pain and I’m feeling very weak.”
Han Muzi asked, “Are you joking?”
“I waited outside for too long. I’m suffering the consequences now. Look, I can’t even raise my arm.”
Not only did Han Muzi not pity him, but she smiled at him deviously instead. “Are you sure you have no strength?”
Her smile made it look as if she was prepared to pour the hot porridge over Ye Moxuan’s head. After weighing his options, Ye Moxuan reached out, pretending like it took a lot of effort to pick the spoon up.
Han Muzi, who was standing in front of him, folded her arms in front of her chest. She glared at him sternly. “Eat your meal properly. Stop shaking. If you spill even a drop, you can forget about having any food tonight. I’ll leave straight away too.”
Blackmail. She is blackmailing me. However, Ye Moxuan’s hands were tied. He steadied his movements since he wanted her to stay, and he didn’t spill a single drop.
When he finished the entire bowl of porridge, Han Muzi forced a smile at him while asking him frostily, “Aren’t you rather energetic after all?”
Ye Moxuan pondered while observing her delicate facial features. He got closer to her suddenly, and warned her with a husky voice, “Muzi, it doesn’t serve you well to be too smart.”
Their lips were barely an inch apart, and Han Muzi’s eyelashes were fluttering. She knew that she would end up touching Ye Moxuan’s lips at the slightest movement. Somehow, she recalled the passionate kiss they shared earlier at the entrance of the hospital while he pinned her against the tree trunk.
Han Muzi blushed furiously when she thought of that, and she took several steps backward. “You should sit and rest for a while since you’re done with your porridge.” With that, she cleaned up the dishes on the table and took them out to throw the containers into the trash can.
Han Muzi stared at her reflection in the mirror and spaced out while she washed her hands. I honestly… decided not to care about him anymore. Why couldn’t I help myself once I read the messages he sent me? Oh, Muzi, Muzi, Muzi. I can’t even bear to look at myself. I’m still in my pajamas, and I have nothing over it except a coat. My hair is a mess. I look wretched. Have I forgotten how hurt I was five years ago? Have I gone soft just because he is treating me slightly better while whispering sweet nothings and pretending to be nice in front of me?
Han Muzi closed her eyes, and she truly felt rather hopeless at that moment. Hence, she had no choice but to console and convince herself. I’ve come all the way here in the middle of the night, because he got himself injured for my sake. I will continue to ignore him once he’s fully recovered.
The phone in her pocket started vibrating suddenly. Han Muzi checked her phone and realized that it was a phone call from Yan.
“Hello?” Han Muzi lowered her voice as much as possible since she was in the bathroom. She turned to look at the bathroom door. Should I shut the door? Ye Moxuan couldn’t possibly hear me from here, could he?
Just when she was deciding, Yan’s voice thundered through her phone suddenly. “Han Muzi, what is wrong with you? Where did you go in the middle of the night? Do you know that Little Bean ran into my room in the middle of the night? Damn it! Where are you right now? Are you trying to scare me to death?”
Han Muzi hesitated before answering her, “Calm down. I’m at the hospital.”
“Hospital? What happened to you? Why are you at the hospital?”
Yan must still be groggy from sleep because she had forgotten about Han Muzi’s visits to the hospital.
Han Muzi pondered before replying to her in a hushed tone, “I am handling something. You know what it is, but you must not tell Little Bean.”
Yan was stumped for quite a while, and she must have figured out why Han Muzi was at the hospital. “Oh, I know. You went to the hospital to see Ye—”
“Yan!”
Yan answered her, “Alright, fine. I won’t tell him. However, Little Bean is very worried about you right now. He says that he wants to speak to you to make sure that you are safe.”
“Hand the phone to him.”
After that, Han Muzi heard some scuffling sound from the other end of the line. Then, she heard Little Bean’s childish voice calling for her, “Mommy!”
Han Muzi smiled from the bottom of her heart when she heard his voice. “Little Bean, why aren’t you asleep in the middle of the night?”
“Hmph! Mommy, where did you go in the middle of the night? You weren’t in your room!”
“I have something urgent I have to attend to, and that’s why I’m out. I saw you sleeping soundly, and that’s why I just couldn’t bring myself to wake you up. You wouldn’t be mad at me, would you?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t be mad at you, Mommy, if it’s something important. Mommy, you should take good care of yourself, otherwise, you’d catch a cold.”
Han Muzi was moved beyond words when she heard how caring her son was. She nodded earnestly. “Don’t worry!”
After that, both mother and son chatted affectionately for a while before ending the phone call.
Han Muzi smiled lovingly while staring at her phone screen after the phone call. Then, she pocketed her phone and turned around to leave the bathroom. However, just when she was about to turn around, Han Muzi’s smile froze on her face. She stared blankly at the person in front of her.
Ye Moxuan… Why is he here? Han Muzi was very concerned about this question now. How long has he been standing there? Did he hear everything I said earlier?
The color drained from Han Muzi’s face when she considered the possibility.
Ye Moxuan locked eyes with her, and his gaze was razor-sharp. “Who were you speaking with just now?” he asked coldly.
Han Muzi bit her lower lip, and her heart thumped painfully against her chest. Did he hear all that? In that case, would he—
“You both sounded rather intimate.” Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes menacingly. He squeezed his tall and sturdy built into the confined space, occupying the narrow bathroom.
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 518
Did we sound intimate? Well, it might have sounded intimate when Little Bean and I were chatting. No, I think I sounded affectionate, more than anything else. He’s my son after all. Who else would I be affectionate with, if not him?
Looking at Han Muzi’s pale face, Ye Moxuan figured he guessed correctly. The hospital was especially quiet in the middle of the night, so Ye Moxuan had heard a child’s voice from the other end of the line when Han Muzi was on the phone. He pursed his lips into a thin line while gazing at Han Muzi.
“Who is that?” His voice was stone-cold, as though he was interrogating her.
Han Muzi regained her composure after several seconds, and she snapped back at him, “What gives you the right to question me?”
Ye Moxuan was astounded. “What gives me the right?”
“Exactly. What gives you the right?” Han Muzi felt bolder since she blurted her thoughts. She then smirked at him while asking him scathingly, “How is it any of your business whom I phone or whom I’m affectionate with?
Do you consider me your full-time nanny just because I came all the way to send you your meal in the middle of the night? Do you think that your wish is my command? This is my personal life. I don’t think I’m obligated to report my life to you, am I?” With that, Han Muzi shoved him to the side hard and marched out of the bathroom.
Anger clouded Ye Moxuan’s face upon listening to her reply. Seeing her leave the bathroom, he immediately turned around to follow her. “Who was that child in the restaurant previously?”
Han Muzi stopped dead in her tracks. Her face became stark white, and she felt as if she suffered a huge blow against the back of her head. She was stunned to silence for a very long time.
A single thought whizzed through her mind. Did he see him? Did Ye Moxuan see him in the restaurant previously? In that case, why hasn’t he said anything all along? Why didn’t he expose me if he had seen Little Bean? Was he waiting for the right time?
Han Muzi felt chills running down her spine when she considered the possibilities. She did not turn around to face him; instead, she bit her lower lip hard.
Ye Moxuan stared at the back of her head with a cold and detached expression. “Is he your child?”
Han Muzi did not answer him.
“Is he?”
Han Muzi remained silent.
“Who is the father?” Ye Moxuan’s gaze turned steely, and it bored into the back of Han Muzi’s head.
The temperature of the surrounding atmosphere dropped rapidly due to Ye Moxuan’s aura. Han Muzi felt numb at first, and soon enough, she felt dumbfounded. She then turned around slowly to look at Ye Moxuan.
Why is he asking me that question? If he did see Little Bean, wouldn’t he assume that the child… Why is he still questioning me? Is he probing or does he have an ulterior motive?
Han Muzi’s bewildered expression angered Ye Moxuan. He took a large step forward and grabbed her shoulders tightly. “I’m asking you a question,” he hissed.
I don’t know. My mind is in a mess. I thought I hid everything well. How did Ye Moxuan find out so long ago? Why did he take so long to ask me about it?
Han Muzi couldn’t figure what his motives were, and so she couldn’t risk answering him rashly.
After a few moments, Ye Moxuan gradually started to calm down since she wouldn’t speak. He asked her in a quiet voice, “Were you speaking with the child from the restaurant the other day over the phone just now?”
Han Muzi did not admit to it, nor did she deny it.
Ye Moxuan let out a mirthless chuckle. “It seems I’m right. Who is he? Muzi, what have you done behind my back throughout these five years?”
His eyes burned with fury, but he also wore a conflicted and agonized expression.
“I saw the side profile of that child in the restaurant the other day. I thought he might be Yan’s child. However, on the phone earlier, I heard him calling you… Muzi, who have you been with for the past few years? If he is your son, who is the father?”
His series of questions made Han Muzi lightheaded. What does he mean? Judging by what he said, does it mean he didn’t get a good look at Little Bean’s face? Was he not suspicious after the incident in the restaurant that day? Has he not launched an investigation into my past?
Is he angry because he heard Little Bean address me as Mommy?
“Let go of me first. My thoughts are all over the place…” Han Muzi shoved his hands away, and she staggered backward.
Seeing her like this somehow further convinced Ye Moxuan that she was feeling guilty.
He gritted his teeth before going after her and grabbing her wrist. “Have you been with another man?”
“I…”
“Answer my question. Who is the father of that child?”
Han Muzi’s mind snapped like a thunderclap, and she pushed Ye Moxuan’s hands away viciously. “Let go of me! What gives you the right to interrogate me?”
Just when the two of them were at a stalemate, a nurse came knocking on the door of his room. She opened the door and sternly warned them, “Excuse me, but this is a hospital. It’s already very late at night. The two of you should keep it down.”
The nurse’s warning calmed them both significantly. Ye Moxuan loosened his grip, whereas Han Muzi grabbed the chance and shoved him away before turning around to leave.
“Eh? What happened?” Before the nurse regained her composure, Han Muzi already brushed by her and ran away without another backward glance.
The nurse stared at her back until she was out of sight before turning back to look at Ye Moxuan.
He stood alone in the hospital room looking faint; he didn’t seem to be doing too well. Despite these circumstances, this man was still undeniably handsome. The nurse was smitten with his good looks, so she asked softly, “Sir, a-are you alright?”
Ye Moxuan looked up with an icy gaze. The nurse was shocked, but she quickly cleared her throat before reminding him that he should keep it down. Then, she closed the room door and left.
…
After Han Muzi left the ward, she ran to the hospital entrance swiftly. It so happened that a passenger got out of a cab at the hospital entrance. Han Muzi slipped into the cab immediately and gave the driver her address.
Once she got into the car, she phoned Yan. “I’m on the way home. I should be back in around twenty minutes. Please meet me at the entrance of the residential community.”
Yan was woken up by Han Muzi’s phone call. However, she was confused by her request. “Are you in your right mind? Why are you coming back home after going to the hospital in the middle of the night? And now you’re asking me to pick you up from the entrance of the residential community? It’s the middle of the night, my dear; I’m sleeping.”
Han Muzi glanced at the cab driver while nodding. “Hmm, it’s fine if you don’t want to. Get my brother to pick me up; I’m already in the cab now.” With that, Han Muzi asked the cab driver, “Sir, what is the car registration plate? I need to inform my brother; it’ll be easier for him to spot us.”
Han Muzi sighed in relief after the driver gave her the car registration plate. I should be more cautious since I’m taking a cab so late at night.
Soon, she arrived at the entrance of her residential community. When Han Muzi got out of the car, she saw Yan trembling in the chilly night wind despite having a jacket on. She had dark circles beneath both her eyes. Yan charged at Han Muzi the moment she got out of the car and started scolding her, “Damn it! Do you even have a conscience?
How could you let me wait outside for you in the middle of the night? Your son woke me up in the middle of the night, and now it’s your turn to wake me up! Both of you, mother and son, are now my nemeses!”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 519
Han Muzi hugged Yan when she got back safely. “Alright, I know it’s been hard on you. This is a one-time thing. Besides… you kissed my brother. Just consider it your duty as my future sister-in-law to look after me.”
Initially, Yan was blinded by rage, but she couldn’t help but blush furiously the moment Han Muzi mentioned Han Qing. “What nonsense are you spouting? Who are you calling sister-in-law?”
“What is it now?” Han Muzi clung to her arm. The two of them walked into the residential area together. “Do you not want to be my sister-in-law?”
“Of course I do, but…”
“Well, enough said then.”
“Stop talking about me. What happened to you? Why did you travel back and forth to the hospital? Did Ye Moxuan make you run errands again?”
Han Muzi shook her head and answered with a laugh, “Nothing, it’s in the past now.”
Yan stared at her. “No, you are lying to me.”
Han Muzi paused. “Yan?”
“You are joking with me on purpose, but I’ve known you for so many years, Muzi. How could I not tell whether you’re happy or not? Your smile didn’t reach your eyes. Why are you trying to cover it up by joking with me? Please don’t do this anymore. We’re best friends; you don’t have to act tough in front of me.”
Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her response.
“Spit it out. What happened?”
After hearing that, Han Muzi’s smile vanished from her face. “It isn’t something huge, but I’m not quite sure myself. That is why I’m reluctant to talk about it.”
“Forget it. I will not force you if you don’t want to talk about it. Go figure it out yourself then.”
“Mm-hmm.”
The two of them arrived home together. Han Muzi went upstairs after taking her jacket off. She entered the adjacent guest room since Little Bean was already fast asleep. She then stayed in the dark in silence after switching off the lights. It’s already so late; I should be sleeping now.
However, her mind was wide-awake, for it was a chaotic mess.
Han Muzi closed her eyes, and her mind replayed Ye Moxuan’s interrogation at the hospital. He knows the existence of my child. As long as he investigates further, he might soon find out what Little Bean looks like.
Despite my efforts at keeping Little Bean hidden—even if I don’t expose him when we are in public—there will inevitably be times when I’m negligent. I didn’t have to care about this when we were abroad. However, now that we’re back in China… What will happen once Ye Moxuan finds out? To this day, I still have a feeling that coming back home was a mistake. What should I do next? I’ve been trying my best to be better and stronger, but… why am I still so helpless when it comes to so many things?
…
At the break of dawn, Yan scratched her messy hair and tugged at her pajamas while making her way to the kitchen. However, she suddenly caught sight of a tall and burly figure sitting in the living room.
Yan almost rolled down the stairs from shock when she saw who it was. Isn’t that Han Qing sitting on the living room couch? Why is he here so early in the morning?
Yan was holding onto the stair railing the moment Han Qing glanced over. Their eyes met, and it felt as if the air was completely silent for several seconds.
Han Qing’s thick brows shot up when his dark gaze fell on her outfit. Yan followed his gaze and lowered her eyes in a daze.
She wasn’t looking her best as she had just gotten out of bed. The collar of her top was askew, exposing her fair shoulder, whereas one of her pant legs was shorter than the other. Her hair was so messy that it looked as if she had a large, black wig over her head.
After three seconds, Yan closed her eyes and started mumbling under her breath, “This is not real. It’s an illusion; it must be an illusion!” I must be dreaming! Otherwise, why would Han Qing show up at this hour? He doesn’t even have the house key!
When Yan opened her eyes again, Han Qing was still sitting there. She was stupefied for several seconds, and she turned around abruptly to run back upstairs. Her small figure vanished from Han Qing’s sight.
Han Qing frowned while looking at the small and slender figure disappearing from his view.
He frowned deeply. This woman…
After dashing back into her room, Yan rushed into her bathroom. She cried tears of regret upon seeing her reflection in the mirror. “Why am I so disgusting? I can give myself a pass for the previous incident since I was groggy with sleep, but how did I make a fool of myself once again? My, oh my! I must be a reincarnation of a pig!”
Yan scrunched up her hair further; she was freaking out. After pondering, she decided that this would not be her downfall. I am planning to pursue my crush. I’ve already kissed him, so what is there to be afraid of? Forward is the way to go!
After giving herself a pep talk, Yan tied her hair up swiftly, then washed up and brushed her teeth. She avoided heavy make-up, since it would look too obvious. Instead, she drew very thin eyeliners and wore her daily lipstick. After that, she straightened her hair with a hair straightener and got a fresh change of clothes.
Looking at her reflection of her brand new self in the mirror, Yan felt so nervous that she could almost feel her heart in her throat. It should be fine showing up in front of Han Qing looking like this, right?
Before leaving, Yan thought of something and dashed back into the washroom. She whipped out a small bottle of breath freshener and spritzed hard into her mouth. After checking she had fresh breath, Yan relaxed and left her room to walk downstairs boldly.
Since Han Muzi got back so late last night, she was not awake yet. In reality, of the three of them, Yan was always the early bird.
What can I do when I’m the designated cook? I have to wake up early to prepare breakfast for everyone.
Yan took small steps and approached Han Qing slowly. She just saw him a while ago, but he already had his laptop out, and it seemed like he was already working.
Han Qing looked up when he heard her footsteps approaching—just in time to see the ready-dressed Yan. It was an understatement to say that her current appearance was a sharp contrast to her sloppy look earlier.
“P-President Han.” Yan flashed him an easy grin. “W-Why are you here so early?” she greeted him.
Han Qing looked away slowly when he heard her question. “I came over early because I woke up early.”
Yan pondered before biting her lip. “President Han, h-how did you enter the house though?” she asked.
“By opening the door.”
Yan was rendered speechless by his response. I know he entered through the door, but… only Muzi and I have the key to the house. Muzi has been visiting the hospital frequently for the past few days. She rarely takes her keys out because she has been using the fingerprint input for entry. I feel embarrassed to ask him, but I’d be eaten up alive by curiosity if I don’t.
Finally, she blurted out, “Well… I recall that the key to this house—“
“The combination lock,” Han Qing cut her short with his answer.
Combination lock? Yan was even more confused now. How did he know about the combination?
Han Qing seemed to have guessed her thoughts because he answered with a rumbling voice, “You entered the combination when you entered the house yesterday, did you not?”
Yan nodded in response. “Yes, I did.”
Then, she realized with a start. “You memorized it just like that?”
Nothing To Give But My Heart Chapter 520
“Otherwise, how did you think I did it?” Han Qing asked her rhetorically with a neutral expression. However, Yan was at a loss for words because she was silently in awe.
My crush has such… awesome memory! I keyed in the combination once, and he has committed it to memory!
Somehow, Yan naturally recalled the incident where she stole a kiss from him, so she asked instinctively, “You wouldn’t happen to remember what happened previously, would you?”
“What?”
“Well, I kissed…” Yan stopped herself abruptly, and it took her several seconds before she realized in horror what she was about to say. Hence, she stared at Han Qing while looking dumbfounded.
He most probably wasn’t expecting Yan to say that, but the image of what happened that day flashed across his mind after she mentioned it.
This slender and petite woman kissed me suddenly on tiptoes. I was distracted because of that for the rest of the day. Han Qing scowled when he recalled that incident.
Seeing as Han Qing was frowning even deeper now, Yan bit her lower lip in frustration. Why didn’t I think twice before blurting things out? How can I mention such a thing out of the blue? Besides, why am I always doing such embarrassing things in front of my crush?
Yan explained hastily, “I was just spouting nonsense earlier. I didn’t mean anything by it. Please don’t overthink. Besides… I didn’t kiss you on purpose that day. I just couldn’t help myself, and that’s why…” By that point, Yan was feeling exasperated, and she started stuttering, “N-No, I mean, it’s not that I couldn’t help myself. I was just…”
Yan hung down her head while looking dejected. What nonsense am I saying?
Han Qing suddenly stood up and walked toward her steadily. However, Yan was too annoyed with herself to realize that.
By the time she snapped back to her senses, she realized with a start that Han Qing was standing right in front of her when she looked up. He was looking down at her, barely inches away. His masculine scent surrounded her, and Yan felt her breathing increase rapidly. She took a large step backward instinctively as well.
“W-Well, I…” She panicked while gazing at Han Qing who was standing very close to her.
At such a close distance, she could almost count the eyelashes on his eyelids, look into his deep eyes and thick eyebrows, and stare at his straight nose… as well as thin lips. Why do I find his thin lips so attractive? Did Han Qing walk closer to me just so I would kiss him?
No, that can’t be right. Yan shook her head firmly. He is the President of Han Group. Why would he offer himself to me for a kiss? That is impossible. However… why would he come up to me out of the blue if he doesn’t want me to kiss him?
Yan was almost convinced now. Han Qing is approaching me on purpose for a kiss. He is already offering himself. In that case… What am I waiting for?
“About what happened that day, I think we should—” Han Qing started speaking calmly while staring at Yan, who was looking down and had flushed-red ears. However, his pupils constricted suddenly in the next second because the woman in front of him, who had her head bowed down just a second ago, looked up suddenly. Then, she repeated her actions from before. She stood on tiptoes, hooked both her arms around his neck, and pressed her lips against his.
Han Qing was stunned to silence by her actions.
At that moment, it felt as if the air around them solidified, and even time froze at that instant.
When Yan pressed her lips against Han Qing’s cold ones, she could hear her loud and racing heart. Aside from that… she heard another sound as well, which sounded like Han Qing’s.
Both of them did not close their eyes. Yan blinked several times, and both sets of her eyelashes batted like two tiny hand fans. Meanwhile, Han Qing felt as if he was knocked out of his breath.
He moved, and just when he was about to raise his arm, the sensation of her lips vanished from his. Then, just like that, the woman, who had both her arms hooked around his neck and her lips sealed against his, turned around and ran upstairs.
Something glinted in Han Qing’s eyes. He took half a step forward, but he did not chase after her in the end. He looked at the tiny figure running up the stairs swiftly, and soon, she disappeared at the top of the stairs. She vanished in mere seconds.
Han Qing was at a loss for words. After several moments of dead silence, he touched his lips with his fingertips. I can still smell the fragrance on my lips from that woman. It smells like honey. Why does it smell like this? Han Qing scowled slightly. When he lowered his hand, he realized the smudge of red on his fingertips.
Despite his ignorance as a straight man, he realized what was going on now. He had some of Yan’s lip gloss smeared across his lips. Lip gloss… Have I got some smeared across my lips? Han Qing tried wiping it off, and true enough, his fingertips were stained red.
Han Qing stared at the reddish color on his fingertips in a daze.
After Yan ran back to her room, she locked her door from inside sheepishly. Then, she took off her jacket and dashed into the bathroom. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, and she realized that she was blushing furiously. I… I kissed my crush again. Oh! Oh my! Is Lady Luck finally on my side? Otherwise, why would I be so fortunate lately? I kissed my crush twice! Somehow, I feel as if I’m one step closer to my goal.
Yan suddenly realized a severe problem amidst her haze of dizzy excitement. She leaned forward to the mirror abruptly, and her entire upper torso was almost leaning against the sink. She stared wide-eyed at her reflection in the mirror. Is the lip gloss on my lips slightly faded? Is it possible that just now…
Yan’s expression turned into one of panic, and she covered her mouth in horror. Could I have smeared my lip gloss against Han Qing’s lips when I ambushed him earlier?
I should have used a smudge-resistant lip gloss if I’d known I would have ended up in such a situation. In that case, I wouldn’t have smeared the product across Han Qing’s lips. However… before using this lip gloss, I never thought I would have kissed Han Qing again today. It was something completely unexpected.
Will Han Qing be disgusted with me when he finds out later that I have smudged his lips with lip gloss? Yan, what are you thinking? He might already be disgusted with a woman like me who keeps stealing kisses from him. Why would he have to wait till now? Yan was miserable when she thought of that. She slumped on the sink weakly while sighing in resignation. I’m such a failure as a woman.
Meanwhile, Han Muzi woke up late because she arrived home very late last night. Besides, she had trouble falling asleep, and she only managed to fall asleep around 5am. However, she still had to go to work, so naturally, she woke up when it was time.
She had dark circles under her eyes, and she left the guest room after putting her clothes on. When she entered her room, she realized that Little Bean was still fast asleep. However, the little boy was rather cheeky in his sleep because he had his blanket kicked to the side.
Han Muzi sighed helplessly and approached the bed to cover Little Bean with the blanket. She checked the time and saw that he had another twenty minutes to sleep. Hence, she left to wash up in the bathroom.
Little Bean was awake by the time she returned. He was already obediently getting dressed. Just as she was observing the view of his tiny back, Han Muzi realized with a start that Little Bean was growing up fast. She thought they should not share the same bedroom anymore.
