After chatting with Yan, Han Muzi hung up the phone. Then, she logged onto the website of Yuchi Group and clicked on her profile to see an unread notification waiting for her. After opening it, Han Muzi found that it was the response to the resume she had submitted. The person had informed her to attend an interview the next day at 8am.

Upon seeing this notice, Han Muzi’s red lips slowly curled into a smile. It seemed that I’m one step closer to my purpose.

The next day, Han Muzi arrived at Yuchi Group on time. She chatted with the receptionist in fluent English, but she didn’t expect that the receptionist would reply to her in Mandarin, “You’re Chinese, right? Are you here for an interview?”

Han Muzi nodded in surprise.

“In that case, you have made the correct decision because the Yuchi Group is the best group out there and the employee benefits are very good.”

Most people had flocked around that area and she was a little surprised to see that the elevator was full of young and beautiful women. The most important thing was the extremely strong perfume on them.

When they gathered together in a group, the smell was overwhelming. Remembering the fact that she was pregnant, Han Muzi took a few steps away from them to avoid being engulfed by the smell of their fragrance. Then, she looked up at the number of floors on the elevator panel.

“Excuse me, are you Chinese?” Suddenly, someone beside her asked.

Han Muzi turned around to realize a young woman had followed her away from the group. Compared to the group of people, she looked a little out of place because she was dressed very plainly whereas the others were very well-dressed. She had a small face with delicate features. From her appearance, she looked quite young.

Seeing this young woman looking at herself, Han Muzi was sure that she was talking to her. She nodded and replied with a hum.

The girl was very happy when she heard this and extended her hand. “My name is Rory. What about you?”

Rory? I can’t believe that someone would call themselves in such a cute way. Though… this name does suit her very well—she is quite petite after all.

“Hi, my name is Muzi.”

“That’s great. You are also here to apply for the secretary’s assistant position, right? Me too. We can go up together later. ”

Initially, Han Muzi came here because of Ye Moxuan. Once Ye Moxuan had recovered his memory, she would return to their home country with him. So, she would not stay here for too long. After all, Ye Group is still waiting for Ye Moxuan to go back.

Looking at the young woman in front of her, Han Muzi said bluntly, “You are applying for the same position as me. You do know that we are considered competitors, right?”

Han Muzi became a little embarrassed and she subconsciously stretched out her hand to pull her hair back while saying awkwardly, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Let’s go in too.” Rory held her hand and walked forward. Han Muzi walked in with her. When she walked to the door, the smell was so heavy that Han Muzi frowned and held her breath subconsciously. As Rory walked in first, Han Muzi was the last to enter the elevator. But she didn’t expect the elevator to buzz as soon as she walked into the elevator.

“Ah, we have exceeded the weight limit,” someone muttered. Due to the fact that Han Muzi was the last to walk in, everyone looked at her upon hearing the complaint.

A silence then fell in the elevator. In that instant, everyone looked at her.

Han Muzi felt quite embarrassed and it was true that she was the last to enter. As soon as she was about to take a step out, she heard someone say from behind, “What’s the matter with you? The elevator is already overweight, yet you still don’t know how to get out?”

“Yeah, why is she still standing here? Don’t tell me that she thought that the elevator will send us up even though it’s overweight?”

Han Muzi frowned and pursed her red lips before walking out. She had only stood there for a moment. Without being able to react soon enough, this group of people had already said such words. It seemed that the people who were applying for this job today were quite hostile to each other.

After Han Muzi walked out, Rory seemed to be embarrassed too. She cleared her throat and walked out as well.

“I’m fine. You don’t have to be here to accompany me. I’ll just wait for the next round. ”

Rory didn’t go in again. She merely winked and said, “It’s okay; we are from the same country after all. I’ll just accompany you to wait for the next elevator.”

“Come with me.” Rory took her hand and walked forward and Han Muzi could only follow her.

The road ahead was much quieter. After arriving at the destination, Han Muzi saw that the elevator in front of her was different from the previous one and there was no one there.

“We can directly go to the fifth floor from here.” With that, Rory took her into the elevator.

Then, Han Muzi was pulled into the elevator.

Ding! Rory pressed the fifth floor before the elevator door closed shortly after.

Han Muzi looked at the rising floors and felt quite strange internally. Hence, she couldn’t help but ask, “By the way, why don’t other people take this elevator? There are so many people over there but none of them are here.”

After listening to her question, Rory couldn’t help but chuckle. “Don’t you know?”

Rory stiffened as she watched the elevator chimed and the door slowly began to open. The elevator rose slowly with a peculiar atmosphere within it. Han Muzi raised her eyes secretly and glanced at the number of floors of the elevator. They were going to the fifth floor, but Ye Moxuan seemed to be going to the twenty-first floor.

The elevator doors closed automatically since no one walked out. Rory was scared witless and she kept her head lowered before walking out. However, something struck her halfway because she turned toward Han Muzi.

Han Muzi bit her lower lip since she was hesitating whether or not to leave. Should I dash out now or should I hide here until we arrive at the twenty-first floor before I head back down? Just when she was hesitating, Rory called for her, “Muzi, let’s go.”

Han Muzi stared at her questioningly. I tried so hard to keep myself hidden. How can I expose myself just like that?

Finally, the man who blocked Han Muzi turned around with a grin. Then, he moved to the side. Han Muzi was exposed to the crowd unexpectedly.

Ye Moxuan was already annoyed with the sudden appearance of two unknown women. However, since they looked frightened, he figured they weren’t here to hurt him. He had planned to ignore them, but there was an extra one now. As such, he turned around by following everyone’s gaze. However, he didn’t see what the woman looked like. A petite figure blocked her face with a handbag while she ran past him. Nevertheless, she was in a rush, and since he was standing by the elevator doors, she bumped into his shoulder by accident.

He breathed in that light scent, which was both foreign and familiar simultaneously. Ye Moxuan was stunned into silence and he immediately focused on the petite figure. It was only a back view, where she was wearing a white suit, and her hair was tied up, which hung low, to the back of her waist. Her black, silky hair brushed across her fair neck as she ran.

Ye Moxuan recognized her. That is the strange woman, who held my hand at the door and demanded that I stop fooling around.

“Muzi?” Rory snapped back to her senses before chasing after her. The two of them vanished soon enough.

“Eh?” George exclaimed in surprise. Then, he bent down to pick up a bunch of things by Ye Moxuan’s feet. It dangled in his hand while making clicking noises. “I think that woman in white left this behind?”

Ye Moxuan glanced at it calmly. It was a bunch of keys.

“Are these keys?” George smiled pointedly. “Did she do something guilty since she was in such a rush? Besides, did you realize that she seems to be afraid of looking at you?”

Ye Moxuan glanced at him and George felt a sudden chill run down his spine. Thus, he pouted, “Fine, forget I said that. However, these keys must be important. I think it’s best I send them over after the meeting.”

George had no hobbies; apart from work, he enjoyed beautiful women. He fooled around with countless pretty women and everyone in the industry knew that he had a reputation. Thus, those who were willing to get close to him did so willingly. Of course, he wouldn’t force those who were reluctant.

He seems so eager today though. Has he fallen for that strange woman?

“Hand it over.” A cold voice rang in the elevator. A large hand appeared right under his nose before George realized who was speaking.

What is happening? George was confused. He realized with a shock that Ye Moxuan was speaking to him when he shot him a steely glare. He then dangled the bunch of keys, and they made the clinking noises again. “Are you referring to this bunch of keys?”

Ye Moxuan pursed his thin lips but did not refute him.

“What?” George was in shock. He stared at Ye Moxuan with an incredulous expression. “Aren’t you usually afraid of women? Why are you asking for the keys right now? Yuchi Shen, are the rumors untrue?” Upon saying that, George sensed the aura around Ye Moxuan morphed into something rather horrifying.

The color drained from George’s face. He wouldn’t dare offend Old Master Yuchi’s long lost Young Master, and so he handed the keys to Ye Moxuan hastily. “Forget it, I’m scared of you. I’ll give them to you if that’s what you want. Aren’t these just keys anyway? I have plenty if I need them,” he mumbled under his breath. Nevertheless, after handing the keys over, George rubbed his chin because he thought that it was a pity.

Looking at those two girls, I thought I’d be able to kill two birds with one stone, but now… I doubt I’d stand a chance. George’s interest was piqued when he saw Rory so scared of him, just like a small, helpless animal. It’s alright though; as long as they are in this company, we will meet again.

Ding! The elevator doors opened, and they arrived at their floor. After taking the keys, Ye Moxuan marched forward and the rest of the crowd followed him in a rush.

One of them, who was slightly older, grinned and his eyes twinkled with a smile when he saw Ye Moxuan’s actions. He followed Ye Moxuan from behind, and he announced suddenly for some reason, “I think the fifth floor is the Interview Department.”

Ye Moxuan paused while frowning deeply. Interview Department? Is that strange woman here for an interview? What does she want? He held the keys for so long that they were now warm. For some reason, the image of her crying flashed across his mind again.

Ye Moxuan was confused. This is strange. Why do I keep thinking of this strange woman? Is it because she flirted with me in a different way?

George did not get what the man meant and so he merely pouted. “Interview Department? Aren’t they rather bold? How dare they use this elevator!”

“Official staff wouldn’t have the courage to ride this elevator. They most probably didn’t know anything since they are just dropping by for an interview.”

“That’s true.”

“By the way, I didn’t see her face, but that girl who ran out just now had a very pretty side profile. I’m guessing she is very beautiful.”

The person in front stopped dead in his tracks after that statement. Everyone came to a sudden halt as well. Ye Moxuan then glanced at the crowd coldly from the corners of his eyes. “Are you all too free?”

The group of people were bewildered.

Ye Moxuan snapped, “Why are you following me?”

George was at a loss for words, but he finally answered after a long pause, “Didn’t… you ask us to come up here with you? You mentioned that we have things to discuss.”

Ye Moxuan pondered in silence. Is that so? That completely slipped my mind. However, he couldn’t run the risk of embarrassing himself right now, and so he smirked. “It’s fine now. All of you should just get lost.”

George commented, “Dear, don’t you think you are rather ungrateful and too quick at casting us aside?”

“Forget it, he doesn’t seem to be in the mood anyway. Let’s go.”

George was rendered speechless by Ye Moxuan’s response, but he complained loudly, “What is wrong with you? You are even more hormonal than the girls I know.”

A murderous glare swept over them and everyone fled before Ye Moxuan could say another word.

On the other side, Han Muzi held her handbag up to cover most of her face and she ran out of the elevator at the right time. She had bumped into Ye Moxuan by accident when she ran past him. Her heart was in her throat because she thought he might call her out straight away or that he might grab her. However, none of that happened, and she left the elevator without any issues.

After running a distance, Han Muzi finally stopped to catch her breath. I don’t think… Ye Moxuan saw me, did he? I hope he didn’t.

“Muzi!” Rory caught up to her from behind and she stood beside Han Muzi. “Why did you run so fast? It’s exhausting to chase after you.”

Rory? Han Muzi was stunned to silence when she saw Rory. She completely forgot about Rory because she panicked earlier. She was slightly surprised that Rory didn’t seem angry at all after being abandoned. “Why are you chasing after me?” I thought I made it clear to her. We are competitors and we honestly do not have to stick together.

Rory smiled shyly. “We are Chinese after all. I… don’t know anyone here anyway. That is why… I feel some sort of kinship with you, and so, I can’t help but come after you.”

Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her response. After a short pause, she figured Rory was quite honest, and so she commented, “Aren’t you angry that I abandoned you earlier?”

Rory responded with a cry of surprise after a pause. She had a seemingly delayed reaction to the situation.

“Did you… abandon me by running away? We…” She cocked her head to the side while blinking several times. “Didn’t we run out together?”

My dear girl, how kind are you to think that we ran out together? I obviously escaped first. Han Muzi shook her head helplessly before advising her, “You better be more careful.” Then, she marched straight ahead.

Rory caught up to her soon enough and followed Han Muzi from behind like a shadow. “You don’t have to worry about me. I know that you are not a bad person. However… do you know that person?”

“What person?” Han Muzi asked.

“Well, Young Master Yuchi, of course.”

Young Master Yuchi? She returned to her senses after several seconds. It seems that Ye Moxuan has been replaced with the surname, Yuchi. He is no longer Ye Moxuan; he is now Yuchi Shen.

“It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it. I just noticed that you were afraid of him and that is why I’m asking out of curiosity.”

“Mm-hmm.” Han Muzi nodded in response. She barely knew Rory, and so she just couldn’t fully trust her in that moment. It’s fine if she’s a good person, but what if… she isn’t? She had trust issues ever since she had the experience with Xueyou.

“The interview is not too far ahead. Let’s go.”

“Sure.”

The interview spot was packed like sardines. There were even more people here compared to the elevator entrance from before. In fact, it was almost double or triple the number from earlier. Han Muzi was speechless when she saw the situation.

“Are all these people here for the interview?” She wasn’t surprised when she saw those people at the elevator. Nevertheless, Han Muzi was still in shock when she saw the crowded corridor before her.

However, Rory seemed to be used to these situations because she nodded casually. “That’s right. I read on forums that usually, there wouldn’t be that many people applying for a secretary’s assistant job because it is a position as an assistant of a secretary. It’s a tough job. However, ever since Old Master Yuchi appointed Young Master Yuchi as the President, things have been different… A lot of people have been applying for the position of the secretary’s assistant.”

Han Muzi finally understood the situation after listening to her explanation. No wonder Rory didn’t see me as a competition. “However…” Rory paused, and she looked slightly upset. “Despite the large amount of people applying for the position as a secretary’s assistant, none of them had succeeded in procuring the position. It has been many days, but they have not identified a suitable candidate.”

“Don’t you think their interviews are rather fast? Don’t worry, that will be us next.”

Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her attempt at reassurance. What can they interview the candidates in less than two minutes? She realized with a start why they had never succeeded in hiring a secretary’s assistant.

People in the overcrowded corridor left gradually and there were empty seats soon enough. Han Muzi, who stood all along, finally found a place to sit. Thus, Rory and her sat down with a sigh of relief in the end.

With the crowd mostly gone, the surrounding air felt fresh again. It wasn’t that she was sensitive to perfumes, but her body now was different from before. Besides, the more people there were, the more scents were jumbled up. No matter how fragrant the scent of a perfume, a mixture of them would end up as a weird concoction.

In less than ten minutes after taking her seat, Rory, who was sitting beside her, was summoned into the room.

Han Muzi checked the time; exactly a minute passed to the time that Rory came out of the room. Why are these people… interviewing candidates so fast?

Rory seemed unfazed when she left the room, and so Han Muzi couldn’t bring herself to ask her any direct questions. Coincidentally, someone called out her name. Hence, she stood up while she inhaled deeply before walking into the interview room.

She opened the door and was greeted by several interviewers. After entering the room, Han Muzi introduced herself, “Good day, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Han Muzi.”

An old man sitting on the left side with a receding hairline flipped through her resume, and a twinkle of interest gleamed in his eyes. “I see you are a designer?”

She was slightly surprised that Rory didn’t seem angry at all after being abandoned. “Why are you chasing after me?” I thought I made it clear to her. We are competitors and we honestly do not have to stick together.

Rory smiled shyly. “We are Chinese after all. I… don’t know anyone here anyway. That is why… I feel some sort of kinship with you, and so, I can’t help but come after you.”

Han Muzi was rendered speechless by her response. After a short pause, she figured Rory was quite honest, and so she commented, “Aren’t you angry that I abandoned you earlier?”

Rory responded with a cry of surprise after a pause. She had a seemingly delayed reaction to the situation.

“Did you… abandon me by running away? We…” She cocked her head to the side while blinking several times. “Didn’t we run out together?”

My dear girl, how kind are you to think that we ran out together? I obviously escaped first. Han Muzi shook her head helplessly before advising her, “You better be more careful.” Then, she marched straight ahead.

Rory caught up to her soon enough and followed Han Muzi from behind like a shadow. “You don’t have to worry about me. I know that you are not a bad person. However… do you know that person?”

“What person?” Han Muzi asked.

“Well, Young Master Yuchi, of course.”

“The interview is not too far ahead. Let’s go.”

Han Muzi hesitated before refuting him, “Of course not!” She explained hastily, “I am so sorry about the other day. My brother explained to you previously. However, I must have been extremely emotional that day, and so you might not have heard it clearly. Please accept my sincere apologies now. I am sorry… I got the wrong person the other day. I must have scared you.”

Ye Moxuan did not respond to her. He gave off a menacing aura suddenly and he took a step forward toward Han Muzi. “You got the wrong person?”

“Muzi?” someone called out for her in a pleasant surprise from behind.

Han Muzi turned around and she was surprised to see Rory. Huh? Why is she here?

Rory approached her with a thrilled expression and she seemed to appear excited as well. “It really is you! I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. You passed the interview! Congratulations!”

Rory smiled happily while walking closer to her. “Are you curious why I’m here?”
