“Young Master Ye, according to the details on the documents, Assistant Shen was a victim of human trafficking when she was very young.”

The moment Xiao Su started to speak, Ye Moxuan happened to see the photograph of that place in the documents.

“Because Assistant Shen was different from the other kids, she was locked up in a small dark room alone. According to the police statement back then, she was locked up in that room for a total of three days. Nobody gave her anything to eat or drink. Moreover, they didn’t check up on her as well.

When he heard this, Ye Moxuan gripped the documents he was holding tightly without a sound.

“Three days later, the traffickers went in and beat her up. According to their statements, back then, by the time the police found her, she was on the brink of death. It took them a long time to resuscitate her.”

Ye Moxuan suddenly recalled her helpless gaze when she heard that he wanted to chase her out from the house the moment she stepped foot in the Ye residence. “Second Young Master, you came.”

“Madam Chen, is she awake?”

Madam Chen shook her head. “Not yet. I was by her side the entire night. She didn’t open her eyes even once.”

When he heard this, Ye Moxuan’s gaze turned cold. Why hasn’t she woken up yet?

“However, the doctor came to see her and said that her emotions have returned to normal, and everything seems fine. She’ll wake up soon.” Madam Chen paused for a moment before she continued, “The doctor should be right. Since the Second Young Lady will wake up soon, I have to go back and make some preparations. I’ll send some fresh food over later.”

“Okay,” Ye Moxuan answered with a hoarse voice.

Xiao Su’s voice was equally hoarse. “Madam Chen, I’ll give you a lift back since you stayed up the entire night.”

“It’s fine, I’ll catch the bus. I’ll reach home in no time at all. Both of you have dark circles under your eyes. Didn’t you guys sleep at all last night?”

The moment she mentioned this, Xiao Su couldn’t help but smile bitterly. It was usual for him to pull an all-nighter. However, why didn’t Ye Moxuan sleep at all last night?

Xiao Su actually leaned forward to take a look at Ye Moxuan’s dark circles.

“Are you trying to court your own death?!” The moment he brought his head close to him, Ye Moxuan’s dark gaze fell upon his face, and that caused Xiao Su to retreat immediately.

“Were you worried about Assistant Shen to the point where you couldn’t sleep last night?”

Ye Moxuan could only frown in response.

“Young Master Ye, do you realize that you’re treating Assistant Shen…”

“What do you wish to say?” Ye Moxuan’s voice was extraordinarily cold as his dark aura started to emanate from his body.

Xiao Su licked his lips and said anxiously, “Young Master Ye, are you in love with Assistant Shen?”

Ye Moxuan’s pupils contracted, thereupon he whipped his head around suddenly, his gaze deep and unfathomable.

Xiao Su took a huge step back immediately while his forehead was beaded with sweats due to his nervousness. “Young Master Ye, I was… just joking around. Do you need to have such a huge reaction to it?”

Ye Moxuan remained silent. However, there was a fierce look in his gaze and expression, as if he was going to devour a person. Xiao Su suddenly regretted his words as he took a big gulp.

“Young Master Ye, if you don’t love her, then you can just refute my statement. Why… did you have to have such a huge reaction to it?”

Crack!

Xiao Su heard the sounds of knuckles cracking. He seemed to be able to predict that he would suffer from a few broken ribs if Ye Moxuan were to land a blow on him. Hence, he quietly retreated.

Cough! Cough! However, at the moment, the person lying on the bed coughed twice, thereby resolving this deadlock situation.

Ye Moxuan, who had a stern look in his eyes and was still full of murderous aura, quickly turned his head and pushed his wheelchair toward her bedside when he heard her coughing. “Bring some water here.”

Xiao Su reacted and quickly poured a glass of warm water before handing it to her.

Having been unconscious for a long time, the moment Shen Qi opened her eyes, she quickly shut it out of discomfort; she wasn’t able to adapt to the brightness of the indoor lights. After a while, she managed to adjust to the brightness and opened her eyes once again, thereupon a familiar, handsome-looking face entered her vision.

There was a blank look in Shen Qi’s gaze, as though she was still in a daze.

The veins on Ye Moxuan’s forehead started to pulsate when he saw her gaze. Could it be that she’s still in the same state as she was yesterday?

The next second, Shen Qi closed her eyes and a pained expression spread across her face. Then, she gently coughed again.

“Sit up.” Ye Moxuan reached out his hand and tried to help her up, while Xiao Su gave her some water. “Assistant Shen, here, drink some water to moisten your throat and stomach.”

Shen Qi lay on the bed; she didn’t obey his command, nor did she take the water from Xiao Su.

“Assistant Shen?”

Shen Qi didn’t move at all. She merely lay there silently, but her gaze was fixated upon him.

Furthermore, her gaze could send shivers down one’s spine.

Not noticing Shen Qi’s expression, Ye Moxuan reached out his hand to help her up.

Slap! However, before he managed to touch her, his hand was slapped away by Shen Qi after a strenuous effort.

Xiao Su and Ye Moxuan were speechless.

Ye Moxuan, in particular, frowned slightly as he narrowed his gaze to look at her.

Her gaze seemed to be filled with hatred for him?

Was it his misconception? Or did she really hate him? Was she blaming him for locking her up in the room?

Ye Moxuan reached out his hand, thereupon Shen Qi tried to swat his hand away. However, how could Ye Moxuan fall for the same thing twice? This time, he grabbed her wrist as his other arm circled around her back and pulled her up.

Shen Qi was very thin, hence she was very light. Coupled with the fact that she had not eaten for the entire day, she had no more energy left in her at all.

As such, Ye Moxuan managed to pull her up easily.

“Let go of me!” Struggling angrily, the needle in her arm shifted position, and in that instant, blood gushed forth from her wound.

Ye Moxuan subconsciously let go of Shen Qi when a bright red color suddenly pierced through his eyes. “What on earth are you angry about?” He frowned.

Shen Qi ignored the crimson red blood on her hand and retreated to a corner.

She curled up with hatred burning in her eyes.

Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes. “Do you hate me?”

Shen Qi said nothing. Even then, her burning hatred toward Ye Moxuan was apparent through her eyes.

“Are you blaming me for what happened yesterday?” Ye Moxuan chuckled coldly. He then glanced at her bleeding wrist unconsciously before his tone turned even colder. “You didn’t even beg me or give me any explanation; what’s so wrong with keeping you there for a day?”

Shen Qi bit her lips while glaring at him with raging anger.

Ye Moxuan called out helplessly, “Come over.”

However, Shen Qi remained unmoved.

As such, veins popped up from Ye Moxuan’s forehead as he frowned, thereupon he warned coldly, “You know patience is not something that I have. Are you going to come over, or are you going to piss me off even more?”

The tension in the ward was peaking. Even though Shen Qi’s hand was still bleeding, she refused to go to him; she merely glared at Ye Moxuan angrily.

Xiao Su, who witnessed everything from behind, felt shocked.

What was wrong with Assistant Shen? It was Young Master Ye himself who got her out of the villa yesterday night!

“Damn it!” Ye Moxuan cursed before reaching out to Shen Qi.

Shen Qi tried to avoid his touch, but Ye Moxuan immediately grabbed on her slim arm before pulling her over as he seethed through gritted teeth, “Get the doctor over.”

Xiao Su was stunned for a moment before he nodded.

After that, the doctor came to tend to Shen Qi’s injury before sighing. “It’s good that you’re awake. However, with your body’s condition right now, it is better if you don’t move around.”

“We understand. Thank you, doctor,” Xiao Su thanked the doctor and sent him off.

Shen Qi was uncooperative the entire time, but she didn’t have enough energy to get out of Ye Moxuan’s grasp.

How could a man in a wheelchair have so much force?

“Ye Moxuan, let go of me now…” Shen Qi was flustered as she struggled to get out of his death grip. However, Ye Moxuan’s hand was chained on her like handcuffs, and his expression was grim.

“You better be quiet before I throw you out of the window.”

Shen Qi immediately tensed up at that.

Ye Moxuan then added casually, “This is the 6th floor.”

Shen Qi cursed, “Ye Moxuan, you b*stard!”

“Heh!” Ye Moxuan couldn’t help but chuckle as his grip on her arm tightened. “You’re getting cocky now. How dare you call me by my full name?”

When she saw him frowning, Shen Qi couldn’t help but refute with hostility, “Do you really think that I’m afraid of you? Throw me out if you dare then!”

Ye Moxuan was rendered speechless.

Shen Qi bit on her already pale lips. “After all, you can’t escape if I die.”

“Who said that you’d die if you fall from here?” Ye Moxuan moved his hand to the back of her head before bringing her nearer to him. Their breath was almost intertwined as the distance between them was eliminated.

Ye Moxuan’s face was so near that it was immediately magnified; she struggled to focus on him, so she could only stare right into his sharp eyes, thereupon a husky voice beside her ears whispered, “Don’t you know that being half alive is the worst? If you break a limb, you’ll end up in a wheelchair just like me.”

Shen Qi’s mind went blank and her eyes widened. “How dare you?!”

She didn’t expect him to say something like this. After all, being stuck in a wheelchair was his sore spot.

Who knew that Ye Moxuan would actually utter something like that?

“Would you like to try?” Ye Moxuan tightened his grip on the back of her head before bringing their foreheads together, their breaths tangled.

Shen Qi could feel her heart rate slowly increasing.

Previously, it was because of anger and rigid movements, but now, it was because of Ye Moxuan’s body next to her. His presence enveloped her as the scent of male hormones intoxicated her.

Her heart rate increased rapidly due to anxiety.

The air she breathed in was filled with his scent.

Shen Qi blinked anxiously, and something changed within her eyes.

She nervously pushed against his chest. “Let go of me! Mmph!”

He pressed his lips against her soft lips without warning; Ye Moxuan had unconsciously taken a step forward to latch on her lips.

Shen Qi’s eyes widened; her gaze shaky from shock.

He kissed her… once again.

After locking her in a dark room without sparing her a glance when she was taken away, he actually grabbed her and kissed her now.

What did he actually take her for? Was this a joke to him?

Was he doing this on purpose to humiliate her because he thought that she was pathetic?

Shen Qi was taken aback at first, but her anger came back after thinking it through.

However, Ye Moxuan deepened the kiss. His tongue explored mindlessly within hers, trying to catch each and every last drop of her sweetness.

“Ugh, let go!” Shen Qi struggled hard against him, yet it was useless as Ye Moxuan deepened the kiss even more. He secured her chin with his other hand to prevent her from escaping.

Shen Qi was forced into the kiss.

To her, this kiss wasn’t a loving one, but a humiliating one!

A kiss filled with endless shame!

Not being able to push him away, Shen Qi had to think of other ways to do so.

Suddenly, she bit his tongue.

“Hiss!” Ye Moxuan sucked in a deep breath and moaned in pain.

The metallic taste of blood started spreading in both of their mouths. Right when Shen Qi thought that he would let go of her, Ye Moxuan suddenly went in and bit her lower lip.

“Ouch!” Shen Qi whimpered, her face scrunching up from the pain.

Slowly, Ye Moxuan removed himself from her and stared at her evilly.

“Do you still want to bite me?” Ye Moxuan asked, their foreheads still pressing against each other. He looked seductive with his intense gaze, and the blood on his lips made him appear flirtatious.

Grazing against her busted lips, Shen Qi gave him a hard slap across his face.

The slap didn’t hurt much as she didn’t have much energy left in her.

However, it was Ye Moxuan’s first time getting slapped by a woman. What was more, he never expected this timid woman in front of her to have enough courage to slap him.

“How dare you—”

Shen Qi immediately went in for another slap on his other cheek.

She then bit her lips. “This is what you get for being shameless!”

Ye Moxuan’s head immediately snapped back before he glared at her viciously as if he was about to swallow her alive.

Ye Moxuan grabbed her chin violently with strength strong enough to crush her jaw. As such, Shen Qi’s face turned pale from the pain.

“Since you hate me that much, why don’t you just end this quickly and throw me out of the building now? Or do you want to kill me? Why do you need to keep on humiliating me like this?!”

Although the force on her chin was enough to make her break out in cold sweat, Shen Qi still decided to go all out.

“Humiliate you?” Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes.

She actually thought that kiss was humiliating her?

To be honest, Ye Moxuan didn’t know why he decided to kiss her. It wasn’t something he planned, but when he went closer to her and saw her clear eyes, he had a deep desire to kiss her.

Then, as he deepened the kiss, it felt euphoric.

“You b*stard—mmph!” Right when Shen Qi was about to push him away, he latched his lips against hers, silencing her.

Shen Qi felt disgusted, and her eyes widened the next second because Ye Moxuan’s hand started wandering beneath her shirt before he began to… fondle…

Shen Qi immediately jumped before pushing him with all her force as she backed up. She didn’t have time to think about anything else as she forced herself to leave the bed and stood as far as she could away from Ye Moxuan.

Ye Moxuan raised his eyebrows. “Are you trying to get away from me? Where do you think you can run to?”

Shen Qi bit her lips, then, as though she suddenly thought of something, she started wiping her lips harshly with her hands right in front of Ye Moxuan.

Naturally, Ye Moxuan was angered by her actions. How dare she try to wipe her lips?! Ye Moxuan’s face darkened as he inched closer while he smirked. “Try wiping again!”

His voice was so eerily cold; it was as if Lucifer himself had reincarnated. Shen Qi watched as he slowly inched toward her in his wheelchair. Although she was scared by his presence, she taunted, “So what if I continue wiping? You can’t catch me anyway!”

Then, Shen Qi turned around and ran outside where she slammed into Xiao Su, who was just coming in, sending him a few steps backward. Shen Qi’s chest hurt so badly from the impact that she leaned on the wall for support while Xiao Su massaged his chest. “Assistant Shen, where are you going?”

However, Shen Qi ignored him and ran out of the ward.

Confused, Xiao Su went over to Ye Moxuan and asked, “Young Master Ye, has Assistant Shen… regained consciousness?”

Ye Moxuan, who was rolling his wheelchair, halted and glared at Xiao Su with a cold gaze. “Didn’t you see what happened just now?”

Xiao Su nodded. “I did, but I didn’t expect her to have the energy to run after not eating for a day though. She really knocked me real good just now.”

The veins on Ye Moxuan’s forehead popped.

Xiao Su then asked, “Young Master Ye, were you in a fight with Assistant Shen?”

Ye Moxuan said nothing.

As such, Xiao Su asked again, “Are you not going after her?”

Ye Moxuan remained silent. Perhaps getting an assistant like this was really my fault!

Shen Qi ran straight out of the hospital, thereafter she struggled to catch her breath as she slowed down. Black spots started appearing in her vision, and her legs almost gave in. Shen Qi held onto the wall as support as she slowly squatted down before closing her eyes.

She then reopened her eyes after a long while.

When she looked around, she had already wholly regained her vision.

Squatting on the cold ground, Shen Qi suddenly realized that she ran out without even wearing her shoes. At this moment, the sharp pain from her tongue reminded her of what Ye Moxuan did to her; she was never going back to that place.

Ye Moxuan is such a b*stard! Shen Qi clenched her fists before wiping her lips again.

Finally, she slowly stood up before staring at the people walking around her.

Maybe it was because of how she was right now, as many of the passersby looked at her weirdly.

Shen Qi smiled wryly before lowering her head and started walking.

“Qi?” A familiar voice rang behind Shen Qi, and she halted in her tracks. The person who called out to her immediately rushed over. “Is that you, Qi?!”

Shen Qi looked up before realizing that the person walking over was Lin Jiang.

Why did she run into him here of all places?

Shen Qi’s expression changed slightly while she quickened her pace and continued walking. However, considering she hadn’t eaten since yesterday, Shen Qi staggered weakly, and Lin Jiang rushed ahead to support her.

“Qi, why didn’t you reply to all my calls and messages?” Lin Jiang’s face was worried, albeit his accusing tone. He didn’t even notice that she was looking pale and was still in her hospital gown.

Pushing his hands away, Shen Qi chuckled coldly and took a step back. “Leave me alone, you jerk!”

Lin Jiang stopped right in his tracks and looked at Shen Qi in disbelief. “Qi, are you calling me… a jerk?”

Shen Qi glared at him coldly in response.

“Qi, would you believe me if I tell you that I have my reasons?”

Shen Qi turned around and left. However, Lin Jiang caught up to her and tried grabbing her hand, only for Shen Qi to push him away in disgust. “Leave me alone! Do not touch me!”

Hurt flashed across Lin Jiang’s face for a moment, and he retracted his hand before staring at her with a pleading gaze.

“I really have my reasons for doing what I did. Please let me explain.”

“What explanation? We’re divorced, aren’t we? I don’t have any relation with you anymore.”

“I had to take responsibility because she was pregnant! Qi, can you forgive me?”

Shen Qi was rendered speechless.

How dare he utter something as ridiculous as this? Shen Qi chuckled to herself before turning in Lin Jiang’s direction. “Lin Jiang, do I look stupid to you? Or am I already a fool in your eyes? Do you really think that I would do anything for you, that I would love you forever and not mind everything that you’ve done? Do you really expect me to forgive you even after you brought that woman to our home and even impregnated her?”

“Am I not right, though?” Lin Jiang asked rhetorically as he frowned. “After all, you’ve always been that way. Qi, as my wife, aren’t you supposed to be considerate about your own husband?”

Dumbfounded, Shen Qi didn’t know what to say.

This was the first time she had ever felt so helpless; she finally realized how terrifying ignorant people could be.

She then snickered sarcastically. “I didn’t know that you could be this ignorant.”

“Qi, am I wrong then? What kind of man wouldn’t have an affair? The one you found the other day? Who was that? Why were you with him?”

“Lin Jiang, how dare you question me? What does this have to do with you anyway?” Shen Qi took a few steps back, trying to keep her distance from Lin Jiang.

She didn’t know how she could be so blinded by the man in front of her right now when she was head over heels for him in the past. She could finally see how shameless he was now!

Was he such a great actor last time, or had she really been too stupid?

“Of course it’s related!” Lin Jiang took a step forward and grabbed her shoulder. “How could you get together with another man right after we divorced? Why is he so nice to you? Considering how loaded he is, were you aiming for him from before? Or were you guys already together before our divorce? I always thought that you were a great woman, but I never expected you to do something so shameful for money!”

Shen Qi was dumbfounded.

She stared at this man in front of her in disbelief. She was really shell shocked by how shameless one could be.

There was no point in arguing any longer with him. As such, Shen Qi smirked and stared at him coldly. “Yes, I’m a gold digger! I admit that I’m shameless. Can you let go of me now?”

What an ex!

The first thing he did after their relationship of two years ended was to accuse her of cheating without even considering the possibility of him being wrong. He didn’t even notice that she looked really pale in her hospital gown without wearing any shoes.

Shen Qi really felt that she had been blinded.

“Let go of you? No way, I want you to apologize to me!”

Shen Qi warned, “I said, let go of me.”

“Qi, you need to apologize to me. Then, I’ll bring you to apologize to my mother for lying to us—”

“I’ll only say this one more time: let go of me!” Furious, she raised her hand and gave Lin Jiang a hard slap, thereupon the latter was enraged after getting slapped by her.

“Wow, you really have to be such a b*tch, huh? Fine. Since you’re acting like this, I won’t be holding back anymore!”

Lin Jiang then grabbed her arm and yanked her. Unfortunately, Shen Qi had no energy to fight against him. “Let go of me! Let go!”

“You shameless woman! I’ll bring you back to my house right now so that you can apologize to everyone! I also want you to tell all of them what kind of shameless things you’ve done!”

“Let go of me!” Shen Qi’s arm ached really bad from his grip, and the pain caused her to start feeling dizzy.

Suddenly, a tall man stood ahead of Lin Jiang, blocking him from going forward.

Lin Jiang stared at the man who appeared in front of him before frowning and dragging Shen Qi to the opposite direction. However, the man changed his direction as well, continuing to block Lin Jiang off his route.

Lin Jiang was displeased. “Who are you? Why are you in my way?”

The man smiled slightly before apologizing politely. “Excuse me, but the woman that you’re dragging right now is my sister-in-law.”

“Sister-in-law?”

Shen Qi looked up upon hearing a familiar voice before she saw Ye Linhan.

He was in a crisp white blouse that was ironed to perfection. Although he was blocking Lin Jiang’s way, he still looked like a gentleman.

Therefore, Lin Jiang wasn’t afraid when he saw that he appeared to be a polite man.

“She’s your sister-in-law? She’s still my wife! I can do whatever I want with her!”

“You’re saying that my sister-in-law is your wife? Are you my brother then? Why do I not know of this?” Ye Linhan smiled slightly. However, a murderous glint was forming in his eyes.

Lin Jiang was annoyed. “Can you not bother us? Stop meddling in me and my wife’s business!”

“Are you going to let her go or not? I’m giving you five seconds to decide.”

At this, Ye Linhan took his phone out and dialed 911.

“If you still don’t let go of her after this call gets connected, don’t blame me for getting the police to come over. I think that the police would be interested in a kidnapping case like this.”

He then set his phone on speaker mode.

Beep-beep-beep!

Ye Linhan’s cold look made others take him seriously. Lin Jiang, who was stunned by him, finally let go of Shen Qi after hearing three beeps from the phone before glaring at her. “This isn’t over yet. You won’t be this lucky the next time we meet!”

With that, Lin Jiang hurriedly fled the scene.

Ye Linhan immediately ended the call. Staring at him, Shen Qi stuttered, “L-Linhan, t-thank you so much.”

Shen Qi’s body slumped down and she went unconscious right after that.

Ye Linhan’s facial expression changed as he caught her in his embrace.

When he was holding her, Ye Linhan noticed that Shen Qi was really skinny to the point that he could feel her bones.

“Shen Qi!” Ye Linhan tried calling out for her. However, Shen Qi’s eyes were fluttered shut because she had completely lost consciousness.

Ye Linhan’s heart ached for her. He kept his phone back to his pocket, then supported her legs with his other hand before carrying her in his arms.

This was what Ye Moxuan and Xiao Su saw when they finally rushed over to the scene.

Xiao Su could feel Ye Moxuan’s mood change after he watched Ye Linhan carrying Shen Qi. Standing next to Ye Moxuan, Xiao Su felt like he was burning in hell right now.

Shen Qi found herself in a neat room when she woke up.

The light grey curtain moved slightly from the cool breeze.

Where am I? Shen Qi slowly got up before feeling a twinge of pain from her arm, thereafter she noticed that her arm was now bandaged.

“You’re awake?” A gentle voice could be heard, and Shen Qi looked up.

Ye Linhan entered the room under Shen Qi’s surprised gaze as he passed her a cup of warm water.

“You should drink some water to soothe your throat first.”

Shen Qi blankly stared at him for a moment before she took the cup of water that he offered. She was indeed thirsty, and her lips were so dry it chapped. Taking the cup over, she hurriedly gulped the water down.

Ye Linhan, who was by her side, couldn’t help but slow her down. “Drink slowly if you don’t want to choke on it.”

Shen Qi paused momentarily as she was overwhelmed when she heard him. What a gentle person!

Thus, Shen Qi slowed down her actions. When she wanted to put the cup down after finishing it, Ye Linhan’s hand swooped over to wipe the water droplets off the corner of her lips.

Shen Qi was taken aback, even though it was a normal thing to do.

She immediately blushed and covered her stomach with her hands.

Ye Linhan chuckled, his gaze soft. “Get up then.”

The way he looked at her was soft and pure, without any hint of mockery. Shen Qi’s heart finally calmed down before she nodded and got up.

When she stood up, she suddenly realized that she had been changed out of her hospital gown.

Subconsciously, Shen Qi grabbed the hem of her clothes.

“Don’t worry, the maid came over to change your clothes for you,” Ye Linhan explained as Shen Qi came back to her senses and blushed.

He saw right through her before she could even say anything. Shen Qi then awkwardly followed Ye Linhan to the dining table from behind.

There were quite a few dishes and a bowl of soup on the table; it was a complete meal.

After being starved for so long, Shen Qi couldn’t help but gulp before taking her seat.

“Eat up! Don’t be shy.” Ye Linhan smiled slightly before giving her a bowl of rice and a pair of chopsticks.

“Thank you, Linhan,” Shen Qi expressed her gratitude before starting to eat up; she was so hungry.

It was a miracle that she survived without eating since yesterday.

Then again, she did survive after not eating or drinking for three days consecutively when she was a kid.

Hence, how could she not survive after starving for just a day? Shen Qi then chomped down on her food as she reminded herself to be strong.

Not only had she conquered her childhood trauma, she had also survived Lin Jiang’s betrayal as well as her family turning away from her.

Moreover, she even tolerated being forced to marry Ye Moxuan.

Just six more months! Six more months before she could finally leave this place.

After that, she would be able to settle down in a city that she liked and get a nice job to raise her kid.

Tears started forming as she continued thinking about it. It got to the point that they were brimming around her eyes before falling into her bowl.

Shen Qi sniffed. Although she was still crying, she glanced at Ye Linhan when she noticed that he was picking out some vegetables for her.

Right then, the look of her teary gaze would forever be imprinted in Ye Linhan’s heart.

He paused what he was doing and pursed his lips unintentionally.

There were still bits of rice around the corners of Shen Qi’s lips. She felt really embarrassed, and the more she thought about it, the more emotional she got. The meal in front of her reminded her of the moment she was rescued from the human traffickers when she was still a child.

In the end, her parents never came to pick her up. It was the police officer who gave her a warm hug before bringing her back to the police station and bought her food.

Back then, she was also quiet for a long time before she started eating. The police officer, too, sighed and placed some vegetables into her bowl.

Ye Linhan smiled. “Don’t mention it. Do you feel better after crying?”

“Yeah.” Shen Qi nodded.

“Then have this.” Ye Linhan poured Shen Qi a bowl of soup and passed it to her.

“I saw Moxuan’s car when I went to the hospital yesterday. Were you with him?”
