Soon after, they arrived at their agreed location, thereupon Xiao Su opened the door. After he got down the car, he felt relaxed.

He weakly wiped away the sweat from his face and turned to look at the two people in the car.

At the same time, Shen Qi stood up with a blank expression on her face and pushed Ye Moxuan, who wore a cold expression on his face, down the car.

These two… Xiao Su suddenly felt that they were made for each other.

Usually, he would drive Ye Moxuan around, and during those times, he already felt that the latter’s aura was icy cold. He thought that with Shen Qi around, she would add a bit of liveliness to the atmosphere. Who knew that her depressed mood could rival Ye Moxuan’s cold aura?

“Qi, you don’t look too good. Are you not feeling well?”

When she heard this, Shen Qi forced a smile and said in a soft voice, “I’m fine.”

“Good to hear that then. Here, let me help you.”

Before Shen Qi had time to react, Han Xueyou went ahead and held the wheelchair. As such, Shen Qi was stunned and she released her grip out of reflex.

She stood blankly in her original spot and watched as Han Xueyou pushed Ye Moxuan inside. Her mind was blank at the moment, and she wasn’t able to snap out of it even after a while.

Meanwhile, Xiao Su, who was standing by the sidelines, saw what happened, and his eyes widened in surprise as well.

What’s going on? Assistant Shen’s friend… He felt that her friend was overstepping her boundaries, hence he looked at Shen Qi and reminded her in a whisper, “Assistant Shen, aren’t you going to catch up to them?”

Shen Qi finally reacted after she heard his reminder.

Catch up to them? What for? Ye Moxuan doesn’t like Xueyou anyway; there’s no need to do so.

But that wasn’t right! What was she thinking? She needed to chase after them because she didn’t want Han Xueyou to be at the receiving end of Ye Moxuan’s torment.

When she thought of this, she quickly ran after them.

Xiao Su folded his arms in front of him helplessly and watched Shen Qi’s retreating figure while shaking his head. There’s something wrong with this woman! How could she allow her husband to be pushed away by another person just like that? Moreover, she just stood there in an aloof manner! “Assistant Xiao, what are you standing here for? Let’s go in!”

Xiao Su nodded, but as he was about to start walking, he stopped. “I won’t be joining. I’ll be here waiting for all of you; I still need to attend to some other matters.”

The lady boss of the breakfast shop was stunned, for she didn’t expect things to turn out this way. Her gaze then fell upon Shen Qi and she sized her up. Eventually, her gaze fell upon her hands, which were holding onto the wheelchair. Then, she looked at Han Xueyou who, at the moment, looked extremely pale.

As a seasoned woman, the lady boss of the breakfast shop immediately realized the situation. Hence, she quickly gave them an apologetic smile and said, “I’m really sorry, Miss. I didn’t mean any harm. The only thing is, I’m too well acquainted with Miss Han here, so I went overboard with my jokes. I hope you don’t take them to heart.”

Han Xueyou, who was still pale, quickly reacted; she forced a smile while looking at Shen Qi, then said, “That’s right, Qi, the lady boss usually jokes around with me about everything. Do you remember Li Yueming? Last time, I came here to have a meal with him, and she asked me whether he was my boyfriend too! Hahaha! It was too funny! Really, Qi, don’t mind her; she was just making some casual remarks.”

The words that Ye Moxuan said yesterday really gave her quite a fright, hence why she was worried.

Even if Han Xueyou had helped the lady boss explain herself, Shen Qi still felt upset. As such, she didn’t answer her.

“It was just a joke. Don’t mind it,” Ye Moxuan suddenly chimed in.

At that, everybody directed their attention toward him. Ye Moxuan then cocked his head slightly, and there was an extraordinarily cold glint at the corner of his eyes. Shen Qi felt a chill in her heart as she clenched her grip around the wheelchair subconsciously and bit her lower lip.

Meanwhile, Han Xueyou’s eyes gleamed.

“That’s right. It’s just a joke. Come, let’s take a seat inside!” The lady boss felt that this man wasn’t a person to be trifled with. As such, she decided not to make any more irresponsible remarks; she could only invite them inside so as not to affect her business here.

Alas, Shen Qi could only follow them in helplessly.

Since Ye Moxuan said that it wasn’t a big deal, she would look like a shrew if she continued to pursue this matter.

After they had taken their seats, Shen Qi couldn’t bring herself to order a meal at all. Meanwhile, Han Xueyou was explaining the right way to eat the dishes and the way the dishes were prepared in an enthusiastic manner to Ye Linhan and Ye Moxuan. While Ye Moxuan sat there emotionlessly, Ye Linhan would occasionally reply politely.

The atmosphere was really suppressive, hence Shen Qi got up. “I need to use the bathroom.”

“It’s not like that!” Shen Qi shook her head. “How could I ever doubt you?”

She was only worried that Han Xueyou was getting too close to Ye Moxuan. By then, the latter might do something to her. After all, she felt that Ye Moxuan wasn’t joking when he said those words.

Moreover, the rumors outside weren’t necessarily true.

He might have a disability, but the fact that he was impotent… might not be true.

After all, the thing that she felt with her hands this morning was real.

Shen Qi’s face turned pale and she held Han Xueyou’s hand. “Xueyou, I believe in you, and I didn’t think you have some other intentions toward Ye Moxuan. It’s just that…”

Han Xueyou suddenly sighed as she covered Shen Qi’s hand with her own. Then, she said softly, “Why do you think I invited him out for breakfast? I did it all for you!”

“For… me?”

“Although you guys are going to get a divorce half a year from now, you are still his wife as of now. I hope to build a good rapport with Ye Moxuan since you are staying in the Ye residence. That way, you can lead a better life there. Qi, do you understand my good intentions now?”

Shen Qi was speechless.

“I hope that you can live your life peacefully for the next six months in the Ye residence. We are best friends, don’t you understand my good intentions?

Then, his thin lips appeared next to her ears as he whispered something to her; his hot breath was cascading down her neck, thereby making her feel ticklish.

Shen Qi’s petite body trembled as she tried to avoid him out of reflex. However, Ye Moxuan grabbed her wrist. “If you don’t believe me, we can make a bet.”

Make a bet? Shen Qi blinked gently, then bit her lip and said, “That scenario you have in mind would not happen in a million years. Hence, there is no need for me to make a bet with you! Don’t be silly!”

“Hah!” Ye Moxuan didn’t really bother about her reaction. “If you lose, you have to abort that illegitimate child of yours.”

Shen Qi widened her eyes in disbelief, and she clenched her hands, which were under the table, tightly. Then, through her gritted teeth, she said, “No way!”

“What’s the matter? Are you scared?” There was a hint of mockery and disdain in his voice. Thereafter, Shen Qi straightened her back and said, “I won’t agree to such a boring bet.”

“It’s not up to you to decide. After all, you can only choose between that illegitimate child of yours and your friend. Who do you think you would choose?”

Shen Qi was speechless for a moment before she said, “Ye Moxuan, don’t you dare cross the line. Besides, you have already promised me to allow me to keep my child and stay in the Ye residence. In addition to that, we have already signed an agreement. As long as I stay in the Ye residence for half a year, we’ll get a divorce. This has nothing to do with Xueyou, so why do you have to drag her into this mess?”

Shen Qi was furious; Han Xueyou had always had her best interest at heart, yet Ye Moxuan actually wanted her to choose between her child and her friend.

Shen Qi gritted her teeth and tightened her grip silently, whereupon her fingernails dug deeply into her flesh.

“What are you guys talking about?” Ye Linhan, who was seated opposite them, noticed that they were sitting close to each other and talking. Hence, he couldn’t help but smile as he said in a teasing manner, “Moxuan, you have a good relationship with your wife, indeed.”

However, Ye Moxuan grabbed her arm and smiled wickedly at Ye Linhan’s gentle gaze. “That’s right! It’s all because of you that I was able to marry such a good wife.”

“Moxuan, are you still blaming me for advocating your marriage to Grandpa?”

What? Shen Qi was surprised. Ye Moxuan’s marriage was advocated by Ye Linhan?

Ye Moxuan smirked and didn’t reply to him anymore.

“You aren’t that young anymore. Moreover, you still have that leg injury, so you should find a person to take care of you. I knew the daughter of the Shen Family beforehand, so I proposed your marriage to Grandpa. Moxuan, you have to understand my good intentions.”

Shen Qi was initially surprised when she found out that Ye Moxuan’s marriage was advocated by Ye Linhan. However, her expression changed abruptly when she heard the back end of his sentence, thereafter she looked at Ye Moxuan subconsciously.

When she heard this, Shen Qi subconsciously wiped away the sweat from her forehead with her trembling hand. “I suddenly feel some discomfort in my stomach.”

“Qi, are you alright?” Han Xueyou noticed that she didn’t look too good. Hence, she stood up and asked her out of concern.

Everybody looked at her, and that caused her stress to increase.

As such, she quickly bit her lower lip.

“I only feel a little bit of discomfort; maybe I should go back first.”

With that, Shen Qi stood up almost subconsciously. Then, she didn’t say anything anymore as she walked directly outside. Meanwhile, everyone cast a bewildered look at her retreating figure.

After taking two steps, Shen Qi suddenly stopped and turned her head to look at Han Xueyou.

As soon as Han Xueyou stood up, Ye Moxuan pushed his wheelchair forward and said, “Since my wife isn’t feeling well, then may I trouble you to entertain Miss Han in my place, Linhan?”

Upon hearing that, Han Xueyou halted.

Ye Linhan smiled. “No problem, Moxuan, you can send Shen Qi home first. Shen Qi, take care, and be careful.”

“O-Okay…” Shen Qi stammered when she replied to him. Then, she looked at Han Xueyou worriedly. The latter was evidently dejected, yet she still waved her hand. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about me. You guys can go home first.”

“Okay!”

After they left, Shen Qi was walking in front. She was almost at the staircase when Ye Moxuan called out to her, “Hey, Miss Second-marriage!”

When she heard this, Shen Qi stopped before turning her head to look at him with confusion written all over her face.

“Come here!”

Shen Qi felt like a puppet on strings as she walked toward him obediently. “Is there something you need?”

Ye Moxuan tried to control his anger. “There’s a staircase in front.”

When she heard this, Shen Qi turned her head to take a look. “I know. Is there a problem?”

“A problem? Haha! Right, I wonder what can the problem be?” Ye Moxuan laughed coldly as he said, “I didn’t know that my wife was trying to kill me. Hmm?!”

After a moment of silence, Shen Qi finally understood. The staircase in front wasn’t a problem for her. However, Ye Moxuan was disabled; he couldn’t use the stairs as he was in a wheelchair.

With that thought in mind, Shen Qi went ahead and pushed him. “I’m sorry. I was lost in my thoughts, and I completely forgot about it. Let’s go to the elevator then.”

Shen Qi then pushed Ye Moxuan toward the elevator. Her fingers, which were trembling previously, had improved slightly. The air outside was indeed refreshing since Shen Qi felt incredibly stressed when she was under the same roof as Ye Linhan.

She suddenly sensed that Ye Linhan might look gentle on the outside, when in reality…

She didn’t dare to imagine it.

“You looked like you wanted to say something before you stopped and started trembling out of fear. What amazing thing did you discover?” Ye Moxuan, who was sitting in the wheelchair, asked coldly when Shen Qi was lost in her own thoughts.

“N-Not really.” Shen Qi shook her head. “My stomach didn’t feel good just now. It feels… much better now.”

She had not decided whether or not she wanted to tell Ye Moxuan about it. After all, his personality was like a ticking time bomb that could explode anytime. If she told him the truth, she didn’t know how he would react later.

Shen Qi thought to herself that if Ye Linhan really knew her identity, then why didn’t he spill the beans to Old Master Ye?

Logically speaking, he should be standing on the same side as Old Master Ye.

Was Ye Linhan her enemy or her ally?

No matter how she looked at it, Ye Linhan didn’t look like a stupid man.

“Your elder brother said that he did a background check on Shen Yue, that means…”

“Hah!” Ye Moxuan laughed coldly. “It’s too late for you to realize it now.”

When she heard this, Shen Qi couldn’t help but widen her eyes as her voice went up an octave. “Ye Moxuan, you knew that your elder brother knew that I wasn’t Shen Yue since the beginning?”

“Of course.”

“T-Then, why did he not expose me?” Shen Qi bit down on her lip because everything was unbelievable. Ye Moxuan wanted her to leave the moment he knew her true identity. However, Ye Linhan didn’t. Moreover, he could call her by her name as usual and would even pat her head in such an affectionate manner while saying those sweet words to her.

“Why should I expose you?” Ye Moxuan asked coldly.

Shen Qi frowned because she couldn’t understand why. “If that’s the wedding he advocated, why didn’t he expose me when he found out that I wasn’t Shen Yue?”

“Ha!” Ye Moxuan sneered contemptuously and looked at her as though she was some kind of idiot. “Is your brain an ornament?”

“I…” Shen Qi was stunned by his mockery. “Must you talk to me in such a way?”

“In what other way should I talk to you then?”

“Am I merely a vain, devious, and brainless woman in your eyes?” Shen Qi questioned.

Ye Moxuan pursed his lips as ridicule filled his eyes. “You know yourself pretty well. Not bad.”

Upon hearing that, Shen Qi clenched her fists and stared straight into his eyes. “Then, let me ask you, how could a brainless woman be devious at the same time? Ye Moxuan, why do you have to contradict yourself all the time?”

His eyelids twitched, thereafter his eyes narrowed into a dangerous gaze. This bloody woman!

He suddenly raised his gaze and gave her a ferocious look. “Say that again!”

Startled by his sudden change of gaze, Shen Qi retreated slightly, but still managed to look him in the eye adamantly.

“Ha!” Ye Moxuan sneered. Is this woman an idiot? It’s clear that she’s afraid, but she’s doing all she can to pretend that she’s not.

“Don’t challenge me when you don’t have the guts!”

The lift opened as soon as he said that.

Shen Qi then left the elevator in anger.

As such, Ye Moxuan frowned. Just when he was about to condemn her behavior, Shen Qi stopped suddenly and turned her head to look at Ye Moxuan.

Her gaze met with his, whereupon Ye Moxuan could tell the conflict in her eyes.

Pfft! This woman can never hide her emotions. It’s all written on her face and in her eyes.

Shen Qi bit her lower lip and stared at him for a while, then she turned around slowly.

Ye Moxuan curled his thin lips, his eyes brimming with victory. When he thought that she would come over to push his wheelchair, she flashed a grimace at him instead and snarled, “Since I don’t have the guts, just come out from the lift yourself!”

Disregarding his already livid face, she turned to leave after finishing her sentence.

“Bloody woman! Come back!” Ye Moxuan was furious that she grimaced at him and left him behind. She’ll pay for this!

At the same time, he realized that he could just turn the wheelchair himself, so he did.

Shen Qi then left the restaurant alone. When she was about to go home by herself, she paused and looked for Xiao Su, and seeing that he was by the car, she went over and patted his shoulder.

“Assistant Shen? Why are you here? Shouldn’t all of you be having breakfast now?”

Shen Qi’s face looked terrible, her mood evidently dimmed. “Not anymore.”

“What happened?” Xiao Su looked behind her and realized that Ye Moxuan was not around, thereupon he asked, “Where’s Young Master Ye?”

Ye Moxuan raised his head and stared at Shen Qi; his penetrative gaze was fixated on her face with eyes filled with ridicule and coldness. It was as though the cold wind and heavy snow in December had swept over her heart.

Her heart was frozen all over.

Shen Qi slightly opened her mouth but failed to say anything.

“Get lost!”

Holding the cup, her hand shivered in anger. She tried her best to constrain the fury within her, and then she turned to leave the room.

After she came out, she leaned against a wall, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

Despite her good intentions, cold water was poured on her. She smiled bitterly as she lowered her gaze. Never do such things again. Stop being a busybody!

When she came round from her thoughts, she went back to her desk. Her gaze dimmed when she saw that cup on her table.

However, Shen Qi wasn’t aware that after she left the room, Ye Moxuan looked at the cup with a complicated gaze as his glare turned abstruse.

After giving it some thought, she added, “Mister, if I don’t return in 15 minutes, please don’t wait for me any longer.”

“Alright.”

After the driver left, Shen Qi sneakily followed them to the villa’s entrance.

There were no men guarding the entrance, and the door was open. It was apparent that everyone had gone in.

Her petite figure allowed her to sneak in easily and follow Ye Moxuan and Xiao Su around. She felt lucky that there were so many big plants in this villa that provided her with multiple places to hide.

“Young Master Ye, they’re upstairs. Let me push you into the lift.”

“Alright.”

Shen Qi was eavesdropping on their conversation. After they entered the elevator, she wanted to follow… Wait a minute. What am I doing?

Xiao Su sighed, resigning himself to his fate. Just as he was about to turn around and walk away, he pondered for a moment before he whipped his head around. “By the way, Young Master Ye, what about Assistant Shen?”

Ye Moxuan only recalled that woman with a stubborn gaze when he heard Xiao Su’s words. She didn’t even bother to explain herself to him, so why did he need to worry about her?

“Let her be.” Ye Moxuan’s voice was freezing cold without a hint of warmth.

Xiao Su paused for a moment before he cautiously reconfirmed, “Are you sure you want to leave her be? Assistant Shen is pregnant.”

Ye Moxuan’s eyebrow twitched as he gritted his teeth and said, “When did you get so concerned about her? Do you want me to give her to you as a gift?”

When Xiao Su heard this, his expression changed dramatically. “Young Master Ye, I didn’t mean it that way. Since you want to leave her be, then I’ll let her be as well.”

With that, Xiao Su left immediately.

Ye Moxuan was the only person left in that vast, empty room, and he narrowed his eyes.

Hmph! That woman is so reckless! How dare she follow me here?! What did she wish to learn from me? Was she under the orders of Old Master Ye?

However, the moment he closed his eyes, a woman’s face suddenly appeared in the familiar darkness. That woman had a petite face and well-defined features to go with it. Moreover, those eyes, which were similar to the bottom of an icy-cold lake, would turn into a dazzling ocean that reflected the stars the moment it was stained with tears. That image was etched into his very soul.

Ye Moxuan opened his eyes suddenly, whereupon his inky black eyes suddenly became sharp and stern.

How could he suddenly recall that woman’s face just as he was falling asleep?

When he thought about this, he clenched his hands and only released it after a while. Following that, he sat up and called for Xiao Su who was about to leave.

“Argh!” Within the darkness, Shen Qi was so frightened that she let out a shrill scream, then subconsciously curled herself up into a ball.

It was bright just a moment ago, but now, everything was plunged into utter darkness. As such, Shen Qi was nearly frightened to death.

After all, she… was afraid of the dark!

Shen Qi bit her lower lip. She wanted to yell out to ask if anybody was around, but she dared not open her mouth as she was afraid that she would lose all hope if she were to ask that question.

She sat up and hid herself in the corner. Then, she lowered her head and buried her face in between her knees as her tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.

Thud! Shen Qi seemed to hear something within the silence of the night.

The hairs of her entire body stood on end as she held her breath.

Thud! The sound was heard again. In the silence of the night, those sounds were similar to a sharp hammer as it struck Shen Qi’s heart over and over again. Every strike was fatal.

Shen Qi felt as if she was on the verge of a breakdown. She bit her lower lip hard as she started to curse Ye Moxuan. That jerk!

She would prefer those people to impose a punishment on her, rather than suffering some form of mental torture while being trapped. It was just too much for her to endure!

Initially, she could still hear some sounds, but after that, she couldn’t hear anything anymore. Perhaps she was numbed to it? She didn’t know how much tears she had shed before she couldn’t tear up anymore; all her tears seemed to have dried up.

When Ye Moxuan arrived outside the mansion, he glanced at the dark-looking mansion and said in a cold voice, “What’s going on?”

When the men who were on guard noticed that Ye Moxuan had arrived, they quickly approached him and gave him a report on the situation. “Young Master Ye, the electrical circuit in the mansion broke down suddenly. It’s under emergency repair right now.”

Since this mansion was one of the few mansions that Young Master Ye owned, and he rarely visited, they had slacked off in their duties.

He waited for two more minutes before he frowned. “Is this what you mean by emergency repair?”

After all, Ye Moxuan, who was supposed to be sleeping at this time, suddenly appeared here because of Shen Qi. If they did do something to her, that would be a disaster.

However, they never expected Ye Moxuan to exude a dangerous aura the moment he heard that they had locked Shen Qi up. “Did anybody check in on her after the electricity went out?”

The man was momentarily stunned before he shook his head and said, “N-No.”

With that, the surrounding atmosphere became gloomy. Xiao Su immediately noticed that something wasn’t right and he quickly said, “Young Master Ye, let’s go upstairs first.”

“But… the electrical circuit hasn’t been repaired yet. I’m afraid that you can’t use the elevators at all,” said the man who was guarding the doors, as he looked at Ye Moxuan’s legs subconsciously. “Young Master Ye, I’m afraid…”

He didn’t dare to finish his sentence because everybody knew that Ye Moxuan’s leg injuries were his sore point. One would be courting their own death if they were to mention this in front of him.

Ye Moxuan raised his eyebrows, thereupon Xiao Su quickly pushed his wheelchair forward. “Don’t worry! I’m strong! I can carry Young Master Ye upstairs.”

With that, they quickly left their line of vision. Even after they were far away from them, Xiao Su didn’t forget to yell out, “Don’t follow us! Otherwise, Young Master Ye will slaughter you guys out of anger!”

They started to tremble when they heard this. They were really thankful to Xiao Su for pushing Ye Moxuan away. After all, why would they dream of following them? Especially after they noticed the intense, powerful murderous aura that Ye Moxuan was exuding just now.

Nobody knew how much time had elapsed in the darkness. Suddenly, the jangling sound of keys could be heard in the silence of the night, and a moment later, the doors were opened.

Two figures appeared within the darkness of the room.

“Assistant Shen?” Xiao Su peered into the dark room, then took out his mobile phone and turned the flashlight on.

In that instant, the room was lit up.

It was then that Ye Moxuan got a good look at the scene. A petite figure was seen crouching in the corner as she hugged her knees to herself with her head buried inside; she had curled herself up into a ball.

She looked like a cat who had curled itself up.

Her long hair which was originally tied up had become undone, causing her hair to cascade down her shoulder in a mess, thereby covering her face and ears.

Strangely enough, Ye Moxuan could feel the despair and coldness that was emanating from her entire body as it was very obvious.

What’s going on? Ye Moxuan frowned and said unhappily, “What’s wrong with her?”

When Xiao Su heard his question, he took a step forward and asked, “Assistant Shen?”

The person who was crouching there didn’t respond. In fact, she didn’t move a single muscle at all as she sat there like a statue.

“Assistant Shen? Assistant Shen?” When Xiao Su noticed that she wasn’t moving a single muscle at all, his eyes twitched. Then, he quickly called out to her twice.

However, the person crouching there didn’t have any reaction at all as if she was dead.

Xiao Su turned his head to look at Ye Moxuan, thereupon he noticed that the latter had a dark look in his eyes as he exuded a cold and terrifying aura around him.

“Y-Young Master Ye…”

Ye Moxuan pushed his wheelchair toward her and stopped beside her. Then, he said coldly, “Raise your head.”

She didn’t react at all.

Xiao Su’s heart thumped anxiously against his chest as he thought to himself, What’s wrong with Assistant Shen? Did my warning fall on deaf ears? Did those men hurt her?

“There is a limit to my patience. I’ll give you 3 seconds to raise your head,” Ye Moxuan continued.

However, the person who was crouching in the corner didn’t seem to hear him. Ye Moxuan’s eyes twitched as he suddenly recalled something. Then, he grabbed Shen Qi’s hand and pulled her up.

Her petite figure didn’t put up any resistance at all as she was dragged toward him. Thereafter, a pale, bloodless face appeared right in front of him.

Xiao Su, who was behind him, couldn’t help but take in a breath of cold air.

Ye Moxuan’s eyes narrowed as he looked at Shen Qi who was right in front of him.

Her usual fair cheeks looked pale at the moment, and even her lips were drained of color. Her clear eyes were as calm as the surface of the water; there wasn’t a single trace of liveliness in her eyes.

Ye Moxuan’s lips moved as he said in a low voice, “Tell me, what happened to you?”

Still, Shen Qi sat there, unmoving.

There wasn’t a single trace of life in her eyes. It was then Ye Moxuan finally realized that her eyes were unfocused as if she could not see him at all.

Suddenly, Ye Moxuan became furious and he shouted at the person behind him, “Find out what is going on!”

When Xiao Su noticed that Ye Moxuan was in such a furious mode, and that Assistant Shen looked as if her soul had left her body, he finally realized how serious the situation was. Hence, he turned around to get his men.

Ye Moxuan and Shen Qi were the only ones left in the room. He then pressed his lips together and said coldly, “Miss Second-marriage, what’s wrong with you?”

Shen Qi remained still.

Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes dangerously and stared at her pale face and her unfocused eyes.

This was the first time he felt so helpless in front of a woman; he couldn’t touch her, scold her nor get mad at her.

After all, Ye Moxuan felt guilty when he saw her like that. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t have ended up in this manner.

After a while, Ye Moxuan asked her again, “Miss Second-marriage, are you trying to play dumb, or are you really unable to see me?”

The situation was enough to prove that Shen Qi wasn’t capable of responding. This was the first time that Ye Moxuan felt so utterly helpless, thereupon he reached out his hand to embrace her. His cold hands couldn’t help but reach toward her quietly as he slowly hugged her slender waist and helped her adjust her position so that she lay in his embrace more comfortably. Then, his other hand slowly stroked the back of her head as he said in a deep voice, “If they bullied you, you can tell me about it. I’ll seek justice for you.”

The person in his embrace didn’t react at all.

“Hey, woman! You better come to your senses! Putting aside the fact that you cried the last time after you got drunk, do you think you can solve the problem now by acting in this manner?”

However, no matter what he said, Shen Qi was still unresponsive.

Xiao Su quickly brought the person in charge inside. The moment he entered the room, he shivered and asked, “Y-Young Master Ye, did anything happen?”

When he heard this, Ye Moxuan exuded an ominous aura as he shifted his eyes and fixed his gaze upon that person.

“What did you all do to her?”

Scared out of his wits, the man’s legs gave out and he landed onto the ground in a kneeling position. He could only stammer at the moment, “Young Master Y-Y-Ye… We didn’t do anything to her! Honestly! Back then, Assistant Xiao told us not to touch her, so we brought her to this room and locked her up. Then, we were waiting for further instructions from you.”

He didn’t seem to be lying, but if they merely locked her up, how did she turn out like this?

Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes. “Did anything happen before we came here?”

The man paused as he tried to recollect his memories. Then, he said, “Nothing happened. After she was locked up, she remained extremely quiet. She didn’t cause any ruckus at all.”

A moment later, that man suddenly exclaimed, “However… we forgot all about her as she was just too quiet. Hence, we forgot to give her… lunch and dinner… just now.”

After the doctor was done with his examination, he turned to look at Ye Moxuan and said, “I believe that she might be frightened.”

Frightened? Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes. How could she be frightened when she was staying inside the room for the entire day? Could it be…

Ye Moxuan recalled the scene whereby the mansion was shrouded in darkness.

Could it be that she was afraid of the dark?

“I believe that the patient might have been terribly frightened. Hence, she is currently caught up in her own world now. So…”

Xiao Su looked at Shen Qi, who was lying on the bed, in a puzzled manner. After the doctor left, only the three of them were left in the room.

Ye Moxuan frowned, then involuntarily reached out his hand to stroke her head. His fingertips fell upon the corners of her eyes as he wiped away her tears.

Her well-defined features were contorted in pain.

She seemed to be… suffering.

“Wake up!” Ye Moxuan’s tone suddenly became stern.

“It hurts… it hurts…” Shen Qi tossed and turned while repeating the same words. Ye Moxuan noticed that she had a pained expression on her face. Immediately, he reached out his huge hand to grab her slender, fair wrist. Then, he tightened his grip and shouted, “Wake up! Don’t stay in that dream!”

Perhaps he had used too much force in his grip, as it caused Shen Qi to frown even more. She continued to scream in pain as her eyes flew open suddenly.

Without warning, her eyes met Ye Moxuan’s gaze. At the same time, Ye Moxuan subconsciously released his grip, thereafter a bruise appeared on her snow-white wrist.

However, before Ye Moxuan could say anything to her, Shen Qi closed her eyes again and fainted.

Ye Moxuan was silent for a moment.

This time, it was different because when Shen Qi closed her eyes, she didn’t scream in pain anymore. Moreover, her expression had returned to normal, unlike just now.

What did she look like just now?

Although Ye Moxuan had never seen a dead person before, Shen Qi’s expression just now gave off the vibe that she was already dead. She lay there quietly without moving at all. Furthermore, there wasn’t a single trace of life in her.
