“Do you even have any sense of responsibility as a husband? Shouldn’t you pay more attention to your pregnant wife?” Facing a series of questions from the doctor, Ye Moxuan’s face turned livid and he clenched his fists, which were placed on the handles of the wheelchair, tightly until his knuckles bulged.

Xiao Su realized the atmosphere was not right and quickly spoke before Ye Moxuan burst with fury. “I’m sorry, doctor. Our Young Master Ye’s legs make it inconvenient for him to move about Moreover, we didn’t realize that she was not feeling well before this. We immediately sent her here as soon as we noticed that. How’s she now?”

After listening to his explanation, the doctor felt at ease a little but he stared at Ye Moxuan with a slight dissatisfaction, “She’s fine now, but she needs to be admitted for two days for us to observe her condition.”

“Do you mean that…the child is still safe?” Xiao Su asked cautiously.

“What kind of question is this?” The doctor got angry when he heard the question. “Don’t tell me that you don’t want the child to be safe?”

“No, no, no. I mean, it’s great news that the child is still safe!” Xiao Su quickly laughed awkwardly and apologized as he fumbled for the right words.

The doctor left after shaking off Xiao Su’s hand. Feeling a little upset, Xiao Su said, “Young Master Ye, if Shen Qi had a miscarriage, you wouldn’t have to deal with the problem personally anymore.”

Listening to his words, Ye Moxuan knitted his brows; in an instant he seemed to emit a colder and more ferocious aura.

“Just you say that again!”

Forget about it. Anyway, Ye Moxuan has changed a lot since he married Shen Qi, and maybe he will behave even weirder in the future. I should learn to adapt to his changes, Xiao Su persuaded himself and let him be.

The air in the quiet ward was full with the smell of antiseptics. Shen Qi was changed into a clean hospital gown. She lay quietly on the hospital bed, her ghostly pale face making her look terribly sick.

Ye Moxuan was sitting on his wheelchair by the bed. Staring at her sleeping figure, his frosty eyes deiced a little.

“When is she going to wake up?” Ye Moxuan asked suddenly.

“I’ve asked the doctor about it just now; he said probably tonight.”

Ye Moxuan moved his eyes away. “Let’s go back.”

Listening to that, Xiao Su was a little surprised. “Young Master Ye, aren’t we going to accompany Assistant Shen here?”

“Ask Madam Chen to come over.”

Xiao Su only just came to his senses and nodded his head. “Then I’ll ask Madam Chen to cook something and bring over a lunchbox. Assistant Shen can have a meal once she wakes up.”

 

As night fell, the whole hospital turned silent. All the patients had fallen asleep, and their accompanying family members were all quiet. Shen Qi gradually opened her eyelids. Everything in front of her was white, and there was a gentle woman sitting beside her bed.

“Second Young Lady, you’re awake!”

Listening to the woman address herself as the second young lady, Shen Qi’s mind went blank for a moment before she realized that the woman was a servant from the Ye Family. Slightly moving her fingers, Shen Qi tried to get up from the bed. But as soon as she moved, she could feel a throbbing pain pierce through her stomach so she could only lay back on the bed.

Madam Chen quickly got up. “Second Young Lady, please don’t get up yet. You’re still very weak and you should get more rest. Are you thirsty? I’ll get you a glass of water.”

Before Shen Qi could answer her, Madam Chen had turned over to pour a glass of warm water before handing it to Shen Qi thoughtfully while Shen Qi could only lay on the bed with an awkward smile. Madam Chen put down the glass gently and helped Shen Qi sit up. She even put a pillow on Shen Qi’s back.

“How do you feel?” After Shen Qi drank half of the water in the glass, Madam Chen asked carefully, “Second Young Lady, is everything alright? Do you need my help to call the doctor?”

Shen Qi shook her head and said with a low voice. “Thank you. You don’t have to call the doctor. I’m fine.”

It was just that she still felt a little pain in her stomach. She subconsciously reached out to touch her stomach and rubbed it gently.

“Second Young Lady, I’ve made dinner for you. In consideration of your condition, the food I’ve made is quite light on the palate. Please have a try.”

Madam Chen opened the thermos and poured the food out.

“Are you deaf? Didn’t you hear what I said?” Ye Moxuan lifted his brows and scolded, barely suppressing his anger.

“Huh? But Young Master Ye! I thought we’re here to visit her, aren’t we?” Xiao Su was speechless. They had just reached the door of her ward. It’s the perfect time to visit her since she has already woken up! Why are we leaving now?

Xiao Su couldn’t understand what Ye Moxuan was thinking. But after expressing his thoughts, he realized that the temperature around Ye Moxuan was decreasing rapidly. Noticing that he might have said something wrong, Xiao Su could only purse his lips and say, “Okay, we’ll go back then.”

Then, he began to push Ye Moxuan’s wheelchair and moved to leave the ward. Just then, the door of the ward was opened. It was Madam Chen who came out and ran into them. “Second Young Master, you’re here!”

Her voice was not too loud but it was not soft either. Shen Qi could clearly hear what she said.

When she heard that Ye Moxuan was here, she felt her heart clench. He was the one who sent me to the hospital, right?

“Second Young Master, the second young lady has woken up. Do you want to go in and have a look at her?”

Ye Moxuan remained silent.

Holding the bowl of porridge in her hands, Shen Qi paused. Ye Moxuan still hasn’t come into the ward even after Madam Chen has greeted him. Perhaps he doesn’t want to see me. Shen Qi decreased the speed at which she was eating her porridge at and subconsciously shifted her gaze to the door.

Just then, she could hear Ye Moxuan’s emotionless voice. “No need.”

Her hands, which were holding the bowl, froze mid-air. Shen Qi lowered her head and looked down dejectedly.

“Let’s go!”

Xiao Su followed Ye Moxuan’s order and pushed him to go out, leaving Madam Chen dumbfounded in front of the ward. Madam Chen was puzzled. I thought the second young master came to the hospital to visit the second young lady. But why didn’t he go into the ward after he arrived at the door? I’m pretty sure the second young lady heard my voice when I greeted him, yet he insists on leaving just like that… Could it be that they are having a fight? Madam Chen thought and returned to the ward after retrieving some water.

“Second Young Lady, you and Young Master Ye…”

“Has he left?” Shen Qi interrupted her and asked softly.

Somehow, Madam Chen felt sorry to see Shen Qi, who hung her head. She then tried to explain, “The second young master probably has something important to settle so he has to leave suddenly. But I can see that he is very worried about you.”

Listening to her words, Shen Qi forced a smile. Worried about me? It’s just a white lie.

When Madam Chen noticed that Shen Qi looked depressed, she knew that her words of consolation might be useless. Hence, she could only say gently, “Second Young Lady, don’t give up. When she heard this, Shen Qi lifted her head as she gazed at Madam Chen with a warm expression.

“Thank you, Madam Chen.”

Shen Qi lay down to rest after she ate the porridge. Madam Chen said that she would look after her for the night. Afterward, Shen Qi asked her to rest in the bed beside her. Coincidentally, she was the only person in the room. Hence, Madam Chen agreed to her suggestion.

Shen Qi sat for a while before she sent a message to Han Xueyou to update her about her situation. Following that, she went ahead and slept as well.

The next day, Han Xueyou came to the hospital to look for her.

“Madam, thank you for looking after Qi for the night. I will look after her today. You better go back and take a rest.” Han Xueyou was a sweet talker as she hugged Madam Chen’s arm and said a lot of nice things. She was able to coax Madam Chen into an exuberant mood. Pretty well? Shen Qi felt the same way. However, when she recalled the scene of him speaking to her in such a cold manner, she felt that it probably was her own misconception.

“Are you guys here to visit Shen Qi?” Before Xiao Su had time to think things through, Han Xueyou took the initiative and asked.

When he heard this, only then did Xiao Su look into the room. He finally reacted after he noticed that Shen Qi was sitting on the bed as he nodded his head.

“Yes.”

“Please come in.” Han Xueyou turned her body sideways. Only then did Xiao Su walk to the back and push Ye Moxuan in.

After Ye Moxuan entered, Shen Qi started to panic as she bit her lower lip. That was because they were talking about his impotence just now. Just as they were nearing the end of their conversation, he appeared at the entrance of the sickroom. Moreover, she wasn’t sure whether he overheard their conversation.

If he did overhear it, then what should she do?

Or did he hear the earlier one? When she thought about this, her face turned pale as she clenched the blanket in her hands tightly.

After Ye Moxuan entered, he gave the room a sweeping glance before his gaze landed on Shen Qi’s figure.

“Why did you lock the door from the inside?”

“Madam Chen went back to rest.”

“Han Xueyou is accompanying me today. Moreover, I feel fine now, so…”

It seemed that he came to look for Madam Chen. No wonder… How could he have come to visit her?

“Ok.” Ye Moxuan lifted his chin slightly, indicating to Xiao Su that he wanted to leave. When she heard this, Shen Qi smiled bitterly. “What were you thinking? I am not the real Lady of the house. In the future, we will be getting a divorce.”

Shen Qi did not want to remain in the hospital for long. After a routine check by the doctor, and it was confirmed that she was okay, she asked to be discharged from the hospital.

The doctor frowned. “My advice is that you should remain here for two more days of observation, since your health is not really that good.”

“Doctor, I’m really okay. Can I be discharged today?”

The doctor saw that she was really insistent, and she was in a fairly good condition, so he warned her to stop indulging in alcohol before permitting her request.

When she left, she went through the discharge procedure by herself. She called Han Xueyou to borrow some money, and promised to pay her back in the future. In light of her condition, Han Xueyou transferred the requested amount to her without blinking an eye, and told her there was no need to return the money.

It was very kind of Han Xueyou, but Shen Qi did not intend to take her money for free. She remembered the amount clearly, and would pay Han Xueyou back at once when she got her salary.

After the discharge, she went home and cleaned up the house, then she took the spare money from her medical costs and bought herself two new suits. After putting on one of the new suits, she went to the office for work. She looked at the time when she arrived, it was late, but she decided to take a seat at her desk and start working anyway.

She was not done with her previous work.

She had been doing her work for half an hour when Xiao Su came out from the lift expressionlessly. He did not turn his head when he walked past Shen Qi’s room, then he thought he saw someone and took a few steps back in a hurry. He stood at the door and said, “Assistant Shen?” He could not believe his eyes as Shen Qi was supposed to be in the hospital at the moment. Why did she appear at the office all of a sudden?

Xiao Su rubbed his eyes.

Shen Qi grunted, without raising her head as she was focused on her work.

“Assistant Shen, why are you here?” he asked.

And her reaction was… dull?

“This is my desk. Is it any weird that I’m here?” she replied.

“I mean… shouldn’t you be in the hospital?”

“I was discharged. You’re going to find Young Master Ye, right? Please help me pass this document to him as I’m busy right now.”

She passed the document to Xiao Su as soon as she finished. He had no choice but to take over the document and nodded.

At the office, Xiao Su briefed Ye Moxuan on his work progress, before presenting his boss the document Shen Qi had passed to him.

“Young Master Ye, this is the document Assistant Shen asked me to give you.”

“What did you say?” Ye Moxuan raised his head upon hearing that.

“It’s strange, right? Assistant Shen should be in the hospital now. But I saw her at work when I was on my way to your office. Young Master Ye, I shall leave now if there’s nothing else.”

After Xiao Su left, Ye Moxuan’s fist clenched tighter, a fountain pen between his fingers, as he frowned.

This bloody woman. Shouldn’t she stay in the hospital? Why did she come out?

He put down his pen at the thought of it, then turned the wheelchair to get out.

Shen Qi finished typing the last sentence, then she saved the document and clicked the ‘print’ button. When she was about to get up, a cold voice arose.

“Why were you discharged?”

Upon hearing that, she paused, and turned to look at him.

She paused when she was met with his deep gaze, then she explained, “Young Master Ye, I decided to leave the hospital since I was already okay.”

Shen Qi bit her lower lip as she clenched her fist. “Young Master Ye, must you be so nasty with me? I asked for the doctor’s permission for the discharge, and he agreed, which proved that my health was okay.”

Ye Moxuan pursed his thin lips, and after a short while, he sneered.

“I see. For a devious woman like you, you could have faked your illness. You could never put yourself at risk.”

Ye Moxuan turned the wheelchair and left the scene as soon as he finished, disregarding what Shen Qi’s reaction was.

His words made Shen Qi angry, but she clenched her fist and chased after him, as the voice in her heart told her to do so.

“Since you think I faked my illness, why did you send me to the hospital anyway? Ye Moxuan, don’t you think you’re constantly contradicting yourself?”

Ye Moxuan paused at her words, then he turned and glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and said in a voice as cold as ice. “Please stay away from the company the next time you’re struck with an illness. I won’t even bother to take a glimpse.”

Shen Qi was lost for words, and accidentally broke the skin of her lower lip. After Ye Moxuan left, she shuddered as she was engulfed in anger.

Then, she lowered her gaze, dispirited, like a balloon with depleting air.

Nevermind, she thought. She did not have to expect anything anymore, since she already saw his true colors.

She calmly took out the printed documents, binded them and put them into folders.

Just before the time to get off work, Han Xueyou gave Shen Qi a call to say that she had reached Ye Group. She had made chicken soup for Shen Qi and asked whether she could go in and take a look.

Deepening the kiss, his tongue explored her mouth as if he was trying to dominate her. Shen Qi was so sensitive she started quivering, her helpless hands grabbing anxiously at Ye Moxuan’s collar as her brain struggled with the heated kiss.

“Oh…” Shen Qi couldn’t help but whimper as her eyes fluttered shut.

Never having experienced a kiss so heated and wild, it brought Shen Qi back to that rainy night over a month ago. The kiss from the unknown man was as heated as this too.

Shen Qi was at a loss for words. As he asked her, she could feel that the parts she was touching seemed to have some reaction because it started swelling.

She screamed loudly and immediately took her hands off his parts while staring at him with a blushed face.

“Pervert!” Her face was all red when she scolded him.

Ye Moxuan was speechless. Damn it! She is the one who touched my parts, and now she calls me a pervert?!

Ye Moxuan narrowed his slitted eyes and glared at her fiercely. “Who’s the pervert here?! I dare you to repeat it!”

“What a foolish woman,” Ye Moxuan sneered.

Shen Qi clenched her fists tight in anger. “Xueyou and I have been good friends for many years. I know she is not the kind of person you described her as! Ye Moxuan, you don’t have any friends, do you? How could you understand the need to defend a friend?” After saying that, Shen Qi quickly left the room without bothering how Ye Moxuan would react to her words.

When she opened the door, she saw Han Xueyou’s lovely face.

“Qi, you finally opened the door.” As soon as Han Xueyou saw Shen Qi opened the door, she put on a bright smile before attempting to enter the room.

Shen Qi’s expression changed at once. She then stood in front of Han Xueyou to stop her from entering the room before closing the door behind her.

“What’s wrong?” Han Xueyou was puzzled to see her actions. “Qi, aren’t you going to let me in?”

Listening to her question, Shen Qi couldn’t help but explain, “Ye Moxuan is in the room.”

“What’s wrong with that?” Han Xueyou smiled and said casually, “It’s not like we haven’t met each other before.”

Shen Qi subconsciously knitted her pretty brows. It seems that Han Xueyou is not afraid of Ye Moxuan at all. Can’t she feel his cold presence? As such, Shen Qi could only blink wordlessly.

Noticing the changes in Shen Qi’s expression, Han Xueyou realized she might have said something wrong, thereupon she explained, “Ah, I mean that since you’re here too, why should I be afraid of him?”

Hearing her suggestion, Shen Qi felt surprised. “You’re here so early in the morning just to bring me for breakfast?”

Ye Linhan smiled at her before he strode in with his long legs. Then, he stood beside Ye Moxuan. “Shen Qi, Moxuan, why are the both of you up so early?”

“We are going to get some breakfast. Mr. Ye, would you like to join us?” Just as Shen Qi was about to explain herself, Han Xueyou cut in and invited her friend’s brother-in-law.

“Breakfast together? Sounds like a wonderful idea.” Ye Linhan smiled as he nodded in a gentlemanlike manner. “Since you’re inviting me, Miss Han, I shall oblige to your request.”

Shen Qi was sweating, though she heaved a sigh of relief at the same time.

If Ye Linhan went as well, then Ye Moxuan… would definitely not do anything, right?

“Shen Qi, you don’t look too good. You have to take care of your health,” Ye Linhan said as he suddenly turned to look at Shen Qi.

The expression on Shen Qi’s face changed slightly. She could only nod blankly when faced with Ye Linhan’s gentle gaze. Thereafter, she lowered her gaze.

She felt that Ye Moxuan’s elder brother was growing too concerned about her. Even though he meant no harm, it made her feel slightly uncomfortable.

“Moxuan, how are your legs recently? Did your old injuries flare up?” After Ye Linhan reminded Shen Qi about her health, he started asking about Ye Moxuan’s injuries.

Speechless, Shen Qi gritted her teeth and clenched her hands by the sides until her knuckles turned pale.

“It was just one sentence. Do you need to accuse someone just to feel happy?” Shen Qi stubbornly bit down on her lower lip and looked at Ye Moxuan’s cold eyes boldly.

Ye Moxuan’s wicked gaze fell upon her face. Just as he was about to say something, Shen Qi released her balled up fists suddenly and turned her head away. “Say whatever you like, and make assumptions as you please.”

She didn’t feel the need to explain herself anymore because Ye Moxuan’s opinion of her would never change anyway. Forget about it!

With that thought in mind, she watched the scenery beyond the car window while her heart was overwhelmed with disappointment.

Her marriage to the Ye Family has already been a sad story to begin with, and when she recalled how her own mother treated her that day, her depressed aura filled the entire car.

Her dejected mood was quite evident, and Ye Moxuan noticed it quickly. His slender fingers paused for a moment as he looked at Shen Qi, who was staring out the window with a complicated expression on her face.
