Ch. 266..270: Powerful Papa with Triplet Babies Chapter 266-270
Chapter 266
She recovered swiftly and was soon discharged from the hospital.
She stood outside the hospital and contemplated if she should head home by taxi or subway. Her lower abdomen was
still hurling, and there was a distance from the subway station. However, a taxi would cost far too much.
Anne was instantly overcome by sorrow at the realization that she lived a pathetic life where she needed to act so
cautiously over spending a few more bucks.
When she thought of the fact that she could spend the money on buying snacks for the children, she white-knuckled
through the pain and headed toward the subway station slowly.
It was barely noon by the time she arrived home, so she returned to her room to rest and made he. self some soup
when she started to feel hungry. After taking her medication, she went back to bed to rest.
Anne placed her palm on her stomach while lying on the bed and thought to herself, 'The blood clog has been
removed, so why does it still hurt? Did they leave something in there? That's not right. If they missed something, I
should still be bleeding right now. It's probably the allergy.'
Though the doctor informed her that she could go back to work immediately after the surgery, it was still just a
conservative saying. Technically, one would require rest to recover from an abortion. In the end, she had come close to
dying from a seafood allergy, and she simply did not want to go back to the office to see those whom she wished not to
see.
Anne was certain that Anthony knew about what had happened, considering how severe the situation was. He simply turned a
blind eye to it because Bianca was behind everything.
It had been one day since she last saw her children, and she was determined to go to them.
Anne stood before the mirror and studied the red dots glittered across her face that looked similar to mosquito bites.
The triplets entered the apartment and saw Anne stepping out of the kitchen. The three beamed and shouted in unison, "Mama!"
They threw themselves into her arms, and Charlie even tried to climb up Anne's legs.
The nanny chuckled and closed the door behind them.
"Huh? What’s that on your face, Mama?"
"Mosquitoes bites?"
"There are so many..."
Anne touched her face. "These aren't mosquito bites. I had an allergic reaction."
"Mama, come here..." Chloe tugged at Anne's clothes.
Not certain what her daughter wanted, Anne crouched, and Chloe reached out her chubby hands to touch her on the face. "Do they hurt?"
"No."
It was the truth because she was not in any pain and did not even feel itchy at all. Despite the lack of side effects, her
allergy could easily be lethal.
"One, two, three, four..." Charlie counted the red dots on his mother's face.
Anne chuckled. "Stop counting. I'm still cooking."
"It's alright. Go play with the kids. I will take over," the nanny said.
The triplets tried their best to get as close to Anne as possible.
Apart from reaching up to touch her face, they even tried to check under her clothes, and Anne chuckled in
amusement.
At that very moment, all the pain and misery seemed to have disappeared into thin air.
After dinner, she kept her children company by playing games and reading.
Chapter 267
By nine, they all went to bed.
Anne was not in a hurry to head back to work because the entire office knew about what had happened to her,
so she had no issue with staying home on leaves.
Though she did not think that Anthony would come to visit her, she still kept an eye on his location using her
phone all the time.
Xander called her from time to time to check on her. Eventually, Anne could not keep pretending that she had
not recovered any longer, so she headed to the office to check how much she would get as compensation for
her injury.
Xander returned in the afternoon after a visit to the tax office and spotted Anne right away. ’’You came back?
Are you okay?"
"Still a little weak, but it won't affect my work," she said and followed him into his office. "Director, do you have
time now?"
"I'm free for now. I happen to have something that I want to discuss with you. I am going to Archduke Group to
report the latest update in the Marwood Group. You are going to come along."
Anne had thought that he was going to discuss compensation for her injury and said, "I'm still not fully
recovered. Can't you ask someone else?"
She did not wish to see Anthony.
"Not anyone can get into the Archduke Group. I've already given your name to them. Besides, it would be weird if you aren't familiar with my schedule when you are supposed to be my assistant," Xander
said.
"But look at my face! I have red dots all over, so that can't leave a good impression," she argued.
"I won't ask you to go if that would cause an issue."
Anne quieted in frustration, but Xander ignored her and started gathering the documents he needed for his trip to the Archduke Group. When he noticed that Anne was not moving, he urged, "Go on. Get ready."
She reluctantly returned to her desk and grabbed her laptop. The thought of having to meet Anthony had stirred up her frustration, anger and insecurities.
To her surprise, she found Bianca after entering Anthony's office.
Bianca sat on the couch elegantly as though she was sitting before a piano. The only difference was that a piano would make beautiful melodies, and Bianca would only make demeaning screams.
Bianca did not seem surprised to see Anne and smiled gently. "You are here, too? Are you doing better now? You look much better than the last time I saw you when I visited you at the hospital."
"Thank you for asking. It's not easy to survive." Anne lowered her gaze to avoid looking at Anthony, which was a normal thing to do as Anthony's subordinate, as there were not many who dared to meet him in the eyes.
"It's not easy, indeed. Thank god Tommy showed up at the right time. He wouldn't have helped you if he didn't care about you."
Anne could tell what Bianca was trying to say. She was trying to hint that there was something going on between Anne and
Tommy, and though Anne did not think that was of anyone's concern, she still felt anxious.
Maintaining a careless attitude, Anne said, "I suppose. After all, an employee dying would do the company much good. I'm sorry you are disappointed, though."
Bianca glanced at Anthony with a confused smile. "Why would I be disappointed? You were my assistant, and I was worried sick that something like that had happened to you. You can check the surveillance camera and you will find me visiting you at the hospital. Don't be so heartless, Anne."
"You just went to see if I was dead, right?" Anne said sarcastically.
"You are mistaking kindness for cruelty, Anne. You are being too defensive," Bianca commented.
"Is that so?" Anne took out her phone and found one of the recordings inside her phone before playing the
conversation she had with Bianca previously...
"Disappointed? Don't you forget, I was kind enough to let my driver send you to the hospital."
"Were you touched by yourself? Planted seafood in my lunch and then pretended to get your driver to send me
when you actually intended to make sure I die along the way. If Tommy did not appear on time, your wish
would have been fulfilled."
"You could get away this time, but not every time. This will be your consequence for staying in Luton!"
"I am just thinking if Anthony knew about your true colors, what would he think?" Anne said casually.
"Then do you think he would believe me or believe the daughter of a mistress?"
Every word echoed within the office, and everyone heard the conversation clearly.
Chapter 268
The careless expression on Bianca's face slowly transformed into a panicked one as she turned to look at Anthony.
Anne turned the recording off and put her phone back into her pocket as she enjoyed Bianca's frantic state, knowing
that Bianca must not have expected her to record their conversation.
She happened to have her phone in hand when Bianca entered her room in the hospital at the time, so she decided to
record them.
Taken by surprise, Bianca immediately tried to explain herself to Anthony. "1 didn't do it. I just didn't deny it. Anthony,
you need to believe me. You know who I am better than anyone."
Xander, who remained standing on the side, adjusted his spectacles and held his breath at the cold, intimidating aura
oozing off of Anthony.
"Anne provoked me into saying those things. She is framing me." Bianca put on a victim's face, which anyone would
admit that she seemed innocent on the outside.
To Anne, however, everything about Bianca looked fake.
"Of course, I trust you." Anthony stared at Anne coldly as he claimed his support for Bianca.
Bianca smiled in relief. "I knew you would believe me." She then got up and said, "You guys can carry on. I won't
overstay my welcome."
As Bianca walked past Anne, she gave Anne a sidelong glance, mocking Anne's vain attempt of trying to expose her.
Anne simply stood still, thinking that the recording she owned was the perfect proof of how laughable Bianca was.
"You won't actually think that a recording would change anything, right?" Anthony's eagle-like eyes locked onto Anne.
"I know it won't, but I'm not about to just let someone walk al) over me and stay quiet about it either." She paused, before cont inning, "1 was wrong for underestimating how lovey dovey the two of you are. I won't do that again."
Anthony's expression darkened further at her words, and she felt as though his glare was piercing through her body.
The tension inside the office kept rising to a suffocating extent, and Xander decided to interfere.
"Mr. Marwood, shall we start?" He studied Anthony's expression and said to Anne, "Anne, come take a seat and turn on your laptop.
Anne was on the brink of surrendering to Anthony's intimidating presence as well and immediate./ walked over to sit down on the couch at Xander's command.
They started discussing work, and the atmosphere in the office returned to normal.
Seemingly unaffected by the earlier events, Anthony displayed full control over everything that was happening within the Marwood Group with impressive strategies.
Once the meeting came to an end, he commanded emotionlessly, " You are staying."
Xander stilled for a moment before gathering his things to exit the room, leaving Anne behind to face Anthony on her own.
"Satisfied?" Anthony questioned coldly.
"What?" Confused, she asked, "About work?"
"You were clever enough to feed yourself seafood but too dumb to
understand what I'm referring to?"
Shocked, Anne tried her best to remain calm. "Didn't you hear that Bianca was the one who did it from the recording?"
"You can't tell there's seafood in your food?"
She argued innocently, "I didn't. Besides, if she was determined to get me killed, why would she add seafood to my
food in a way that I could taste? You can't just blame It on me simply... simply because I've done it before. It's not easy
to summon the courage to do that because it's really painful, okay?" She touched her cheek anxiously.
"Still in pain?" he asked.
She froze and thought to herself, 'Is he worried about me? How can that be possible?'
Unfortunately, his face was like a stone, a cold wall that concealed any emotions hidden, and Anne was not sure if she
should say she was in pain.
In the end, she muttered, "... a little."
"Get out." Anthony tugged at his collar in frustration, his Adam's Apple coming into sight.
Anne tensed, not knowing what she had said wrong, but left at his command immediately, desperate to get away from
someone as unpredictable as Anthony.
As soon as she stepped out of the Archduke Group, she received a call from Bianca.
"How dare you do that, Anne Vallois?!" Bianca screamed.
"Watch your voice, Bianca. Aren’t you worried that I might record you again?"
Bianca was clearly scared and quieted down.
Chapter 269
However, she immediately recovered. "Do you think it will really help you even if you record me? Anthony said
he believed me, so save it! You don't know me and what my family means to Anthony. You sure are daring to
try and move against me!"
"You are out of line. You were the one who slipped seafood into my food, and now it's my fault? Bianca,
haven't your family taught you what it means to respect others?" Anne mocked.
"Who are you to comment on my family? I'm telling you this now, Anne, this is not over! We will see who wins
in the end!" Bianca hung up with a twisted smile on her face.
Anne had not found out that there was a deformed child growing inside of her, and Bianca looked forward to
the day she found out.
Anne put her phone away and thought to herself, 'What a crazy woman!'
A honk startled her, and she turned to see Xander's car, so she hurried down the stairs and opened the car
door to get inside.
"Why are you still here, Director?" She buckled up.
"We came together, so naturally, we need to go back together."
"Thankyou, Director."
Along the way, Anne was suddenly reminded that Xander had heard every detail of her conflicts with Bianca and felt uncomfortable. Perhaps Xander knew about her and Anthony, but it was different from having him hear everything.
Anne tried her best to stop herself from caring and thought to herself, ‘It's already happened, anyway.'
"Director, does Bianca come from a really powerful family or
something? Must be a great family to raise such a talented pianist, right?" she asked.
"Her father is a businessman, and her mother is an opera singer. They have lived overseas for most of their lives, and so it didn't come as a surprise that they raised such a talented pianist. Nature and nurture."
'They must be a happy family of three. The perfect parents and their only daughter. Bianca is probably that wilful and selfish because she has parents who love her,' Anne thought.
"I heard that the Faye Family had helped Mr. Marwood in the past, so he takes care of Ms. Faye," Xander added.
'That explains his boundless tolerance for her, then. Forget recording. Even if Anthony walks in on Bianca admitting to what she did, 1 guess I will just make a fool of myself,' Anne thought.
"Sorry for all the drama."
"It's fine. I would admire a man like Mr. Marwood as well if I were a woman," Xander commented carelessly.
Annoyed, Anne immediately retorted, "Who admires him? I am forced into this mess!"
"Oh."
Anne had a strong feeling that Xander had misunderstood. After that, no matter how hard she tried to explain
herself, Xander simply listened half-heartedly.
Bianca had not caused any trouble for Anne ever since Anne managed to counter her lies, but Anne realized
that it might just be the silence before the storm. As for Anthony, he seemed to have stayed away from her as
well.
Anne was occasionally required to follow Xander to the Archduke Group to meet Anthony, but it had always
been for work, and they would leave immediately after the meeting like she was just another employee.
Tommy had to travel overseas frequently to oversee the progress of his mines, so Anne rarely saw him in the
Marwood Group anymore. On the other hand, Lucas was busy managing the Pinnacle Academy and his
investment with Tommy's project, but he would still give Anne a call from time to time to check on her or ask
her out for meals.
They had resumed interacting like friends, and neither had suggested a relationship again.
The triplets lived freely at Lucas' apartment and would stay with Anne when she was not working. She would
even take them out for picnics during the weekends.
This was exactly the simple life she had ever wanted, and Anne eagerly hoped that every single day of the rest
of her life could remain so.
Chapter 270
The end of each month was often the busiest time for the finance department, and everyone had been working
overtime for days in a row.
"Ah! It's finally done! We finally don't need to work overtime tomorrow!"
"The end of each month is hellish!"
"I'm so tired."
Everyone leaned against their desks in exhaustion when Xander came out of his office and asked, "It's still
nine, so is anyone interested in having a gathering?"
"Yes!" The others who had been lying down like corpses instantly stood up energetically.
Their shouts startled Anne.
'I thought they said they were exhausted? Are they sure?' she thought to herself.
Anne did not want to join the gathering and desperately wanted to go home for a shower, but before she could say anything, Xander said, "Anne, I've sent you the address. Half of them are going with you, and half will follow me."
Excited, the others immediately pulled Anne onto her feet. "Let's go!"
Anne complied with resignation.
A gathering had to be lively, and so Xander had booked a private room in an exclusive bar. Once he told the others that he was paying, everyone went wild.
Anne did not want to drink, but there was no way she could get away because her colleagues would force it down her throat. If she continued to refuse, her female colleagues might start forcing alcohol down her throat by mouth, so eventually, Anne gave in.
'Oh my god... Why do they have to drink so much every single time?
' she thought.
Xander simply watched as she suffered and grinned cunningly from afar.
When she questioned why no one had forced Xander to drink, the others said, "Director is too good at drinking. None of us is his match!"
'So they decide to target people who can't drink instead?' she thought to herself as she snuck outside.
"Anne, are you trying to run again?"
With her hand on the doorknob, she turned and shot them a tipsy smile. "... No, I'm not! I'm just going to the bathroom. Be right back."
She went outside and stepped into the bathroom with both her hands on her heated cheeks.
She wanted to leave, but running yet again did not seem wise. However, she could not bring herself to return
to the room either. Anne stared at her own reflection through the mirror and saw her own reddened face and
teary eyes.
After using the toilet and washing her face with cold water, she realized that she was drunk.
She left the bathroom and saw the bench outside, so she decided to rest for a while before returning to the
room to avoid drinking.
She sat down on the bench and dazedly fell to her side, slowly drifting off to sleep. Her curves were exposed
from the tight dress
and white shirt she was wearing, completely unaware of how seductive she looked.
Anne lost all sense of time but at one point felt someone touching her on the face. Thinking it was one of her
children, she grabbed the hand and muttered, "Stop that, Charlie..."
Shocked, Anthony narrowed his eyes dangerously, thinking that' Charlie' was a new man that she was seeing.
Anne shivered instinctively and opened her eyes to look at the man before her dazedly, feeling dizzier when
she noticed his shadow looming over her.
"An...Anthony?" She got up slowly. "What were you doing to me? Are you a pervert or something? Can't you
just leave me alone when I'm drunk?"
