Ch. 1051..1060
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1051
Giving him a thoughtful look, Heather turned and headed back to the house. "Follow me!"
Staring after her, Ralph took a moment to respond. He looked over his shoulder at the emotionless man standing near him and lifted his foot to follow her.
Walking up the stairs caused him to feel pain all over. Clenching his teeth, he took a breath and glanced at the man as he moved past him. He vowed inwardly that he must get even with him one day.
Entering through the door, he saw Heather sitting on the sofa, making tea as if nothing had happened.
Upset deep down, he strode over to the sofa in front of her and sat down despite the dirt on him.
Heather shot him a glance and said, “Chump, bring Mr. Russell to take a shower and prepare clean clothes for him,”
When Chump was about to leave, Ralph held up his hand. ‘There's no need. I think at least I’m being unique, aren't I? Stop dawdling and just get to the point. I don't deserve to wear your clothes anyway."
He was being sarcastic. 'It's better now that we're treating each other as business partners, and I don't have to please her all the time.’
Chump was upset by his rudeness, but Heather waved him off. "It's okay. Leave us."
He was reluctant to go, but Chump did it anyway since she had given the order.
Alone with Ralph in the living room, she calmly poured two cups of tea and offered one to Ralph. “Have some. It's good for your throat.”
Giving her a look, Ralph took it unceremoniously and gulped it down without attempting to taste the tea.
Holding her cup of tea, Heather looked at him thoughtfully. "Did you know the Russell family owns a secret kickboxing handbook?"
"What secret kickboxing handbook?" Ralph let out a confused look. "We're not kickboxers. Why would we own such a handbook? Oh, you're talking about Alexander. Didn't I tell you before that my father brought him somewhere to learn kickboxing, but I've no idea where it was? Why? You thought I was lying and hiding something from you?"
‘That means you are unaware that your family owns the handbook.” She let out a sneer.
Ralph grew upset upon seeing her expression. "What are you trying to say? Are you saying that my family owns something valuable, yet I know nothing about it while Alexander does? You’re laughing at me because I’ve not gained my father's trust and inherited that thing even though I'm his son?”
"Well, think whatever you want,” Heather said indifferently, "However, your family does own a secret kickboxing handbook. I’ve already sent someone over to investigate. The place where Alexander allegedly went to learn kickboxing was just an ordinary training camp, and the instructors did not even know kickboxing. He returned home after staying there for five years and did not go elsewhere. You tell me, where has he learned it?"
"How the h*ll would I know?” He got angry talking about this. ‘Dad took the effort to nurture that *sshole during that time, and I was like nothing to him! f
"The secret handbook is now in Alexander’s hands. If... you could find it and give it to me, I'll give you 30% of Riggs Group’s shares." She emphasized every word.
"For real?" Ralph was overjoyed, but he quickly calmed himself down and cleared his throat. "If we get married, we'll be sharing our assets. Do you think I'll take our family’s heirloom from Alexander for the sake of a measly 30% of the shares? Your offer is too low!"
"What makes you think that I'll marry you?" Heather snorted coldly.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1052
"Yesterday you...
He wanted to say that she had accepted her marriage proposal, but he knew she was capable of backing out.
As he had expected, she said, "That was yesterday and I've changed my mind today. Besides, no one asked you to do such a shameful thing and publicize it. You publicly proposed to me and let others treat me like a circus monkey? Did you find that interesting?”
She grew upset thinking about what happened yesterday. ‘The worst part is that the woman he proposed to was that wretched girl, not me!"
Ralph was confused about why she had gotten angry over this today.’ Wasn't she pleased yesterday?’
"So you're upset by the onlookers?" He thought about it and concluded as such.
"Does it matter? What matters most is whether you can get what I want most from Alexander Russell!” Getting impatient, Heather said.
"Well, it's not impossible, but... about Riggs Group’s shares..."
‘If she could give me the shares, then I could at least have my personal holdings.’ He knew that this was different from getting the dividends from the Russell family as Alexander set the amount. With 30% of the shares, he would be a major shareholder in Riggs Group. According to what he had learned, as the Riggs family did not have many members, Heather owned 70% of the shares, and a few other major shareholders held 15%. Retail shareholders owned the rest.
Her offer very much tempted him.
“I won't go back on my words. However, you must make sure that the handbook is authentic. I'll rip your head off if you get me a fake one!" Heather let out a chilling smile as she said it.
"Are you certain that Alexander has the handbook?" He thought for a moment and asked.
"Who else but him?” She thought that Alexander must have kept it close by, which was why she could not find it even after a thorough search at the Russell Estate.
‘If Ralph was not even aware of its existence, Hugo Russell must have handed it directly to Alexander, who has kept it under his personal care outside the Russell Estate.’
If that was the case, she knew it was nearly impossible to find.
‘However, Ralph Russell is different. He is a member of the Russell family and Alexander Russell's uncle. It would be much easier for him to find the handbook. Besides, no one would suspect him if he showed up at La Beaute Group or anywhere else belonging to the Russell family.’
"Alexander seldom goes home. He has a house elsewhere.” Thinking about it, Ralph said, “After he married that girl from the Lodge family, he spent most of his time with her. Do you think it’s possible that..."
"I Knew that, but I can't possibly just go to search the place. Do you think you can?" She had been there before, but the seemingly ordinary house was guarded rather well.
Also, much to her surprise, Lily could fight well despite being pregnant.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1053
Ralph got up and said confidently, "I think you won't be able to find a better candidate than me."
He was not utterly confident, but he knew Heather could not find a better candidate for the task than him. Ralph also knew she would not have made such an offer if she had options. He now felt that 30% of the shares was insufficient.
‘lf Heather can make such an offer just like that, it means the secret handbook is worth much more. However, there’s no hurry in making a counteroffer. Once I get my hands on it, I'll be in a good position to negotiate the price. I'll get even with her for the injuries and humiliation she has given me today!
Ralph turned to leave but remembered something and looked over his shoulder at Heather. He looked her up and down and fixed his gaze on her cup-holding hand.
Made uneasy by his stare, Heather grew slightly upset. "What is it now?"
"Where's the ring I gave you?” Although it was not that expensive, he made an effort to choose which one to buy. Seeing that she was not wearing the ring, he could not help but think she was tough to predict.
"Oh." Heather glanced at her finger and thought about the ring she had squeezed into a lump-the one Hannah had treasured so dearly. She said indifferently, "It was too low-priced for me, and I dropped it accidentally. Why? You're not so petty, aren't you? Or do you want me to compensate you?"
Ralph gnashed his teeth and balled his hands into fists. He said gravely,” There's no need! Indeed it did not cost me much, and if you've thrown it away, so be it. At least we've leveled with each other.”
He turned and walked off.
Heather did not care for what he said and rubbed her finger. She should feel more relaxed now that they had discussed the matter openly, but for some unknown reason, she was still unhappy.
‘It must be that wretched girl! Yes, it's her. She decided without my permission, and it affected my mood!’ With that thought in mind, she got up and walked toward the basement.
She stopped before the door and reached out to turn the door handle. It was unlocked, as Hannah would not dare to leave the room once Heather had given her the order. She could not believe such an obedient girl would dare defy her yesterday.
Heather stepped into the room. Some light that came through the window lit the room, but since the window was small, the light only shone dimly.
She sneezed due to the basement’'s musty smell. She opened her eyes and was stunned as she could not see anyone in the room.
‘This is impossible!’
She turned her gaze and saw someone cowering in the dark corner with her arms wrapped around her knees. Heather would not have noticed someone sitting there if she had not paid more attention.
Hannah fixed her lifeless gaze on the floor, looking like a soulless puppet.
Heather grew upset when she saw Hannah like this.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1054
"What's the matter? Are you upset with me?” Heather asked.
‘Hasn't she repented after I gave her an earful yesterday? I'm all she has in this world. She should count herself lucky to be able to live as my cover. She would have been dead long ago if it weren't for me. Still, she has defied me for a lousy man. She must have lost her mind!"
Hannah gave no answer or retort. As if she had not heard Heather, she remained quiet and still.
The more she behaved like this, the angrier Heather became. ‘If she could pretend not to hear what I said, how can I use her as my substitute and trust her to do her job well in the future?’
"Are you behaving like this to threaten me? You think I can't live without you?" Heather approached Hannah and stood before her, casting an enveloping shadow over Hannah.
Heather glared at her sister ragefully and suddenly grabbed Hannah by her collar, dragging her out of the room.
Hannah struggled half-heartedly for a short while and gave up, Knowing it was futile. She stayed quiet until she moaned when Heather threw her onto the shiny marble floor.
Heather pulled over a floor mirror. "Look at yourself! How will you work for me if you don't look like me?"
"I've never looked like you, Heather.” Hannah moved her lips and finally spoke.
She glanced at her reflection in the mirror. Hannah’s face had paled like an apparition, and her eyes were soulless. She had even become thinner.
Hannah looked over at her sister and noticed Heather, full of vigor and confidence, unlike herself, who dared not even look at herself in the mirror.
‘I'm not like Heather, not even one bit!’
She had no idea why others could not tell them apart and wondered whether she had imitated Heather too well, or others were too stupid, or if they simply looked alike. ‘Are our looks so important? We're fundamentally different!
She concluded she was unlike Heather and did not want to become her. She simply wanted to be a carefree Hannah Riggs.
‘No, not necessarily Hannah Riggs. It’s exhausting to be a member of the Riggs family, not to mention that curse. I just want to be Annie, simple and happy.’
As Hannah's voice was husky and hardly audible, Heather did not catch it and asked with a frown, ‘What did you say?"
Hannah lowered her gaze onto her reflection on the marble floor as she felt the pain from falling onto it. She mustered the courage that seemingly came out of nowhere, looked up at Heather, and moved her dry lips to say,” I said I never looked like you! I'm not you or your shadow! I'm myself- Hannah Riggs!”
Although her body was slightly trembling out of anxiety and fear, she felt good getting it off her chest. After all these years, what she buried deep down in her had finally exploded.
She suddenly realized it felt great to be herself, even if she had to pay the price for it, even if she might never leave again or die.
Hannah no longer cared. She did not want to be Heather's shadow ever again. She wanted to be herself.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1055
Heather stood still for a moment without a word, probably shocked at what her sister had just said.
‘She should have repented and asked for my forgiveness in tears, but she told me she wanted to be herself instead!’
"Do you have any idea what you're saying? Have you gone insane?" Heather said despite herself.
“I'm not crazy. I know what I'm saying better than at any point in my life.” Hannah slowly got to her feet and realized she was slightly taller than Heather.
Although the difference was slight, it showed they were not the same.' How can two different people become one?’
"Heather, I obeyed you and did whatever you wanted me to all these years, but that's it for me. Can't I be myself? How can you enjoy your life while I can't even be myself in public? Heather, I just want people to know that there’s someone named Hannah in the Riggs family and that we're sisters!”
She tried to hold Heather's hand, but as she was about to touch Heather's hand, Heather jerked away as if getting burned.
"You're out of your mind!"
"I’m not, Heather! Please. We're sisters. Can you let me be myself? I can still help you by being myself and not your impostor.”
Hannah softened her voice and pleaded.
She had thought about it while staring at the distorted ring the whole day and night. Even if Ralph might reject her, she wanted to meet him as herself because she felt tormented being unable to tell him the truth.
"Shut up!” Heather slapped Hannah's face, which soon became swollen.
"Have you forgotten about the curse on our family? Have you forgotten that there can be only one child in the Riggs family? Be yourself, huh? Fine.
Then be a dead one!" Heather grabbed a paring knife from the coffee table and tossed it over.
It landed with a clang on the floor before Hannah, and she quieted down. Palming her swollen cheek, she felt the blood in her mouth as she stared at the glinting knife. Her mind went blank.
All she could hear was Heather's icy voice. ‘The outsiders have always thought the Riggs family is small because there are few offspring. They are unaware of the horrible curse that only one child could exist in our family. Even if we were to give birth to three or seven, or eight children, all would end up dead except one.
"Have you forgotten about mom? She isn't the only child. Her siblings were the cream of the crop but in the end? She's the only one left! Grandma did not have the heart to decide who to live and die, and things ended up the same.
"If she did, she wouldn't have let our useless mom live, and the Riggs family wouldn't be in such bad shape. Nobody would push us around like they do now!" Heather's words echoed in Hannah's ears and mind.
She knew more than anyone about these incidents. Having heard about it since she was young, Hannah had lived in fear because she knew that either she or Heather could live. Otherwise, the family believed they would face a terrible disaster.
Hannah had no idea why there was such a ridiculous curse, and she did not believe it. However, it was clear that everyone else did.
Even her parents had tried to kill her because Heather was stronger and more suitable as the heir of the Riggs family. Therefore,
Hannah had lost the right to live.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1056
It was unclear whether she was considered lucky after that, but after avoiding several crises, she appeared to be able to live normally at last. However, from that day on, she lost herself. She was no longer herself but rather the shadow of her elder sister, Heather.
Heather would only appear If needed. Otherwise, she was nowhere to be found.
She was content at the time because she could at least live in peace and stability. On the island, the scope of her activities was quite limited, so the effect of being restrained was not very big.
She was never completely satisfied, and as she grew older and made contact with more people and places, the more she yearned for. She wanted to be able to dance on the street in skirts like other girls, to fall in love, and to eat cream and cakes without fear of getting fat, but in the end, she could not do any of those things.
If Heather could not do any of those, then Hannah could not either. Hannah was not herself but rather just Heather's puppet.
"It's just a curse and probably a legend. No one knows if it’s true. Will it ruin my life just because of that?” She whispered, still unwilling in her heart.
There is no ground for nothing! These are lessons from my mother. Don't you understand? This is the life of the Riggs family. You're still alive now, and you can still stand here and talk to me about how ruined your life is. However, you're only here because I let you be my shadow, so thank me for that!" Heather spoke to her coldly.
Of course, only one of the two sisters could stay, and definitely the strong one.
Even though Heather did not know that much when she was younger, she felt Hannah should be grateful to her for being alive. If it were not for Heather, Hannah would probably be dead by now! To a certain extent, Heather was her savior. She should be grateful, and Heather could take her life anytime she wanted to!
Still, now, Hannah was standing here, talking to her about fairness and wanting to be herself? What a ridiculous idiot!
Heather's words sounded like a wake-up call, and Hannah suddenly woke up-
Yes, her parents and even Heather firmly believed in the legend since childhood. She never faced the choice of life or death, it had always been the existence of the arrogant daughter of heaven.
How could she know about pain? How could she know about the fear of living in the shadow of death? She could not understand, let alone sympathize.
After thinking about it, Hannah suddenly gave up struggling, as if he had already accepted her fate. She lowered her head a little and said, "I was wrong.”
Heather raised his eyebrows and looked at her.
"Yes, you're right. It's because I forgot my duty. It's because I shouldn't ask for too much. It's a gift from you that I can still stay alive. I shouldn't ask for so much!" She spoke softly.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1057
It was rather a sudden change, so Heather asked suspiciously, "Really?”
Taking a deep breath, Hannah stood in front of her, slightly bent. She lowered her head, which made her a bit shorter than Heather.
At first, I thought I was confused, but in reality, I was greedy and wanted to fall in love and get married. I forgot that you gave this all to me. Without you, I would not have lived in this world long. I overthink way too much," she said as she raised her hand and slapped herself hard. "I'm sorry, Heather. I shouldn't have said those things to you, and I shouldn't have made you angry."
"It's my fault. I'll never see Ralph again, and I'll never ignore your words again. I still want to live. It's my honor to be able to help you. Can you forgive me?" With tears in her eyes, she looked at Heather pitifully.
She was terrified that Heather wouldn't forgive her, and it showed in the panic and anxiety in her eyes.
Seeing her like this, Heather was touched and believed Hannah's words. She knew that Hannah had already thought about it thoroughly.
At first, she had an extravagant hope for life and continued to talk about marriage and love. She was being given too much freedom and was giving it too much thought.
"It's good that you figured it all out! Your life will be better!” Heather patted her shoulder gently and said, "As for Ralph, you should just forget about him. There’s nothing good about that man, and it's not worth wasting time on him! I'll break the engagement as far as the marriage is concerned. You just stay home, reflect on yourself, and don't go anywhere!"
"Yes!" Hannah replied meekly, "I’m sorry, Heather, for causing you trouble."
"It's good that you know! Don't cause any more trouble for me in the future! " Heather said fiercely, and she glanced at Hannah's swollen face with a frown. "Go and ask someone to put some medicine on your face. Don’t leave it like that. If you get a scar, it'll be troublesome in the future."
“Thank you for your concern."
Now she seemed normal, well-behaved, docile, and had no temper, which satisfied Heather. "Well, go back to your room!"
Hannah took a few steps back, slowly turned around, and walked toward her small basement. Just after turning around, there was a bit of coldness in her eyes.
There was an extravagant hope for her to live in this world. Though she was unsure of how much longer she could live, she still had life in her.
She even wished to negotiate conditions with Heather, but how? She had always had the high ground, and others obeyed her.
How could anyone dare to beg her for mercy?
Hannah felt hopeless and felt that she was the only one who could save herself.
Margaret was basking in the sun in the yard at the Russell Estate. She was in a bad mood recently and was very upset because of Alexander.
Fortunately, Ralph's wedding was set to take place within the next month. After the matter was settled, she would slowly support him at home. When the time came, she would be able to feel more at ease.
Hugo was too biased and gave almost everything to Alexander. He left his own son with nearly nothing. How could Ralph live on his own in the future?
Hugo skipped his son and passed the family business directly onto Alexander, her least favorite grandchild, despite her wishes for Ralph to inherit it.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1058
Children typically follow their mothers, as the saying goes. Alexander, for example, resembled his mother, which was why she did not like him very much.
Over the years, she tried her best to plan more for her son, and with the support of the Riggs family in the future, she could feel much more at ease.
She took a sip of tea and then closed her eyes with the intention of napping. She then heard footsteps, so she peeked over. She was terrified by what she saw. Ralph was covered in dust and blood as if he had been beaten to the ground by someone.
He walked in embarrassedly.
“Oh my goodness!" With an exclamation, Margaret stood so abruptly that the blood rushed to the top of her head. Her eyes darkened, and she almost fainted.
Ms. Margaret!" The servant next to her reached out to support her.
Ralph also took two quick steps and rushed forward to support her, saying, Mom, slow down!"
Margaret took a deep breath and gave him a trembling look. She looked at him up close and took another deep breath, "What's the matter with you? Did something happen?"
“It's nothing!" He looked down at his body. To say he looked disheveled would be an understatement. His clothes were ripped all over.
He initially returned to shower and change clothes, but he did not expect his mother to be in the yard. He went to greet her but instead scared her.
"Nothing? Who did this? Who dared to do something like this to you? Don't they know that you’re a Russell? Are they seeking death?” Margaret was fuming and stabbed the ground with her crutches. Every time she said a sentence, the ground made a thud. "Who did this? Don't let him go!”
“I'm really fine. It’s just a little injury. Don't be too angry." Ralph, trying to reassure her, attempted to brush the matter off.
He had intended to enter the house right away to take a bath and change. Now that he was looking at Margaret, he thought of Heather's words.
He bent over to ask, "Mom, I want to ask you something.”
"What? What's more important than your injury? Tell me, who hurt you like this?" Margaret was so distressed.
Ralph was her youngest son, and she gave birth to him when she was near menopause. Ralph was like a treasure to her, especially in her current situation. Her older sons had already passed away. She held onto his hand for fear of falling. She could not bear to hit or even lay a finger on him.
When Hugo was still alive, he would beat Ralph because he was naughty, and Margaret would be so angry that she would not eat for days. Although Hugo had a hard temper, he could not just watch his wife starve. That was why he gave in and hardly bothered about Ralph's affairs.
However, because of that, Hugo would no longer beat Ralph and started to ignore him. He then gradually put his focus on Alexander.
Alexander was very similar to him when he was young and had the closest resemblance to Hugo compared to his biological sons. Alexander had courage, calmness, and wisdom. When he was sick, he had already decided for Alexander to inherit the family business.
Ralph's body was covered with physical injuries, but Margaret's heart carried the emotional wounds.
“Tell me. Who did this to you?"
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1059
"I’m okay, Mom!
Margaret focused on Ralph, anxious to know what had happened to him. However, Ralph stomped and said, "I have something urgent to ask you."
"You..." After getting yelled at, Margaret choked and sighed helplessly," Okay, I don’t care about what happened to you. What do you need?”
Ralph looked left and right, ensured no one was around and approached his mother. He said, ' Mom, do you know if our family has any heirlooms?”
He was concerned about finding the secret handbook, but when he saw his mother's sudden reaction, he felt suspicious. After all, Margaret and Hugo had been married for years, so how could she not know about the handbook?
Margaret was taken aback by his question. Seeing that he was so mysteriously swaying everyone away, she asked, “What kind of heirloom? What kind of treasure do you want?"
Ralph noticed his mother's blank expression and thought it might have been long ago, and she could not immediately recall.
Therefore, he deliberately reminded her, “It’s not that I want some kind of treasure. I'm just curious. Don’t we have the kind of generational heirloom in our family? For example, a secret or something?"
Margaret was puzzled. "Secrets? What secrets? Our family isn't in the food industry. Why would there be any secret cookbooks?"
"Mom, I'm not talking about a cookbook. It's a secret kickboxing handbook.” Ralph frantically jumped around
‘How could she not know?!"
Didn't I tell you about Alex learning kickboxing? He is a first-class kickboxer now! Didn't Dad send him to learn it for a while? How did you forget? We only talked about it two days ago! You know, the secret kickboxing handbook! Shouldn't there be a copy at home?"
After his explanations, Margaret finally understood. "Oh, you mean that!"
"Yes!" He was overjoyed.
"There isn’t any.” Margaret kept shaking her head.
‘What a disappointment!
Ralph could not believe it. "What do you mean? If not, then how come Alex's kickboxing is so good? He even injured Heather, and she insisted that our family must have a secret. Mom, you and Dad have been married for decades. So, you may know about this. Think about it again.”
"No means no! I don’t need to think about anything. Do you think I have dementia?” Margaret said unhappily, "Our family doesn't do kickboxing. When your father sent Alex to learn, I thought it was nothing. How would Alex suddenly become so good at it?
“Besides, if our family had something like that, why would we send anyone to learn kickboxing from others? What are you up to this time? Why are you asking about these things all of a sudden?”
‘There isn't any? That's impossible. Is it hidden somewhere, or did Dad only tell Alexander about it? How could you not know?"
After thinking about it, Ralph kept on guessing.
Since Heather was so sure, he felt his family might have possessed the secret handbook.
From childhood to adulthood, Ralph's physique was much more robust than Alexander's, but he had never been able to beat Alexander. Therefore, he knew it would be even tougher to beat Alexander in the future.
Alexander was considered an elder since he was the head of the family.
Ralph knew he had no chance against his nephew.
Ralph no longer picked any fights outside, either. Even though he was not the best, he was not someone people would dare provoke. However, he discovered that his fighting tactics were simply vulnerable when practicing.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1060
‘So there had to be some secret at least.’ "Impossible!" Margaret said firmly, "I have been married to your father for half a
lifetime. He might be stubborn and eccentric sometimes, but he never lied to me. He would never hide anything from me! Where on earth did you hear this gossip? What kickboxing secrets could our family have?"
"Heather mentioned it. She's adamant that Alex must have a secret handbook containing special skills." Ralph thought of
Heather’s determined eyes and remembered that she had gotten engaged to him. He wondered if she only did that because of the handbook.
“What special skills? I think she's obsessed with this idea and has been watching too much TV! As you said, a woman like her shouldn't learn so much about this. Why is it constantly on her mind?” After a while, Margaret added, "Speaking of Heather, aren't you two getting married next month?
"Why isn't there any progress? What else should we arrange? Did you prepare everything? Don't count on me to help you prepare!"
There was no festive atmosphere at home. It was evident Ralph would marry soon, but the house had no decorations.
After hesitating, Ralph decided to inform his mother, "Our marriage might not happen."
He was afraid of irritating her, so he said it intermittently. Still, he knew he could not hide it from her. Heather probably would not marry him and even brought up the issue of equity. She treated this whole thing like a business transaction.
"What?!" Margaret would get angry no matter how he said it. She stared at him so hard that she almost fainted.
Don't worry. It's not a big deal!" He hurriedly stabilized his mother and grinned, wanting to talk this over quickly, "Even if it does work out, it won't end well anyway. It's not like I can't find another partner."
"What nonsense are you spewing?” Margaret had never hit him before but was so angry that she suddenly raised her walking stick to smack him.
"So everything I said earlier was pointless? Did you forget about everything I said? Have you forgotten why we arranged this marriage and why you should marry Heather? You must've forgotten what you can get out of your marriage too.
"How can you even start this bullsh*t? Didn't you just propose yesterday? How can you change your mind so fast? Are you out of your mind? You're embarrassing yourself and your family!” Margaret raised her walking stick again but was reluctant to hit him again-instead, she lightly patted his body.
Ralph did not dodge, knowing she was reluctant to hit him with the walking stick. He said smilingly, "You even know about my marriage proposal? You're still able to keep up with the latest updates.”
Margaret was getting old. A few scolds and hand waves had already made her breathless, but she was still angry. "You must be kidding me!”
"You're not going to hit me?" Ralph smiled and handed his mother some tea. “Have a drink. Just look at yourself. So old yet still so grumpy. Don't be angry; listen to what I have to say first. It's not bad if Heather and I don't get married. I know what I deserve, and it's best not to marry a crazy person, right?"
