Ch. 1061..1070
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1061
"Is that so?" Margaret looked suspicious, believing only half of what Ralph said.
' It's true." Ralph leaned closer. Then he murmured and paraphrased what Heather had said, omitting her threats, "So, I will get 30% of the Riggs Group's shares if I can find that secret handbook. Wait, I can ask for more since I'll inevitably be in charge."
He thought things through. He would have a better time negotiating terms with Heather if he had the handbook.
Margaret probably understood but still had doubts. "Is what she said true? I’ve been with your father for all these years, and I have never heard of secret handbooks. Is Heather mistaken?"
"Impossible!“ Ralph shook his head decisively and was sure about it. "Don't overthink it. Her family has been in the business for a long time, so she is obsessed with this handbook. The handbook is useless to us.
"However, it’s a priceless treasure to her. How can she make mistakes with these things? She probably thought about it. Also, if it weren't for the handbook, she wouldn't promise to give me 30% of her company shares.
'That thing is more important than the Riggs Group to Heather," After some thought, Ralph continued, "Furthermore, how can Alex be so formidable if the handbook didn't exist? The secret handbook has to exist, and the skills it contains must be insanely powerful. It's just that Dad kept it a secret and didn’t tell us about it. He even kept it from you."
Margaret heard her son's explanation and felt he made sense. With this belief, it was inevitable that she would have complaints about her deceased husband, "Damn that old man! I never expected him to hide something so severe from me, especially since we’ve been together for decades!
'The family heirloom, huh? It's bad enough that Hugo didn't tell me about it, but he even entrusted the handbook to that little b*stard! I bore children and worked hard for him for many years, but it was all in vain.
"I’ve done so much for this family, yet he made me angry and fought with me every day!" While speaking, Margaret shed a few tears and cried a few times.
"Mom, don’t be mad at Dad. He had gotten deceived too, and that brat, Alex, had been scheming since he was a child. Alex can be a two-faced prick at times and might’ve persuaded Dad.
'That's a mistake Alex will regret! We must set things right and put the family back on track,” Ralph earnestly spoke as if everything he did was for the family's good.
"So, if you want to help me, you must find that handbook. Then after taking over the Riggs family's shares, all we need to do is wait for the DNA results! n
Margaret was silent.
"Mom, why are you still hesitating? Have you changed your mind, or did Alex persuade you also? Ralph became anxious when he noticed his mother not expressing her opinion.
"Silly boy. Of course, I'm on your side! What would you like me to do if you want my help? Your father never told me what kind of book it is, and I don't know what it looks like. I don't know where to start." Margaret had thought about it carefully and did not have the slightest impression.
Hugo was cautious before his death but never hid any money. He was even more honest with her. Margaret was bewildered when her son suddenly mentioned a secret that Hugo had been hiding from her. She did not know where to start looking.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1062
Ralph had figured it out long ago.
"Mom, I've already thought about this. You don't need to do too much. This book is probably in his own house. Heather went to inquire about it, but the house has a lot of traps, so it doesn't look that simple. Why would his house be set up that way if there weren't any treasures inside?”
He looked up and around, saying, "Our old house is quite simple, with just ordinary security measures. His neighborhood is the best in the city. Maybe he's hiding something behind those doors.”
Ralph was so focused on thinking that Alexander must have hidden the secret in the house that he felt there must be something. However, he never considered how often Alexander had encountered danger and kidnapping since he was a child. His defense skills may seem exaggerated to outsiders, but for the people in his family, they were just essential.
Of course, now that he had already confirmed his thoughts, he did not want to think any further.
'"You mean, go search inside his house?" After finishing this thought, Margaret began to wave her hands repeatedly. "No, no, I can't! Don't you remember how they disrespected me when I visited them last time? They probably won't let me even if I try to go in. It's so embarrassing to beg someone younger than I am! No way!”
Thinking of the last time, she felt outraged. She was mistreated as an elder. Lily was uneducated and disrespected her as well. There was no way that Margaret wanted to go back.
"Mom, I didn't ask you to go in and look for it. I mean, I can go in and look for it myself. But it's very troublesome if they're inside!" Rubbing her hands together, Margaret instantly understood, "Are you asking I lure them out?"
"Mom, you’re brilliant!" Ralph praised her after kissing Margaret on the cheek.
Margaret wiped her face and glared at him, "You're talking nonsense again! Why is your brain so simple? What makes you think they'll listen to me? I wasn't even able to meet them!"
"It's simple. Aren't they going to get married soon? As an elder, you'll need to give them a gift. You could invite them to pick it out, and I don't think they'll refuse such a request. Otherwise, it would be very rude of them.” Ralph had it all planned out!
Hearing this, Margaret was unhappy, "Give them a gift? They didn't bother to buy me anything, and now I have to give them a gift? "How could you come up with such a ridiculous plan?" Margaret said, sounding very upset and disagreeing with the idea.
Ralph coaxed her softly, "Mom, this is for our future. I know it’s tough for you to do this but think about it. Once I take over the family and put it back on track, you can deal with them however you want. It'll be up to you. They will not dare to say anything disrespectful at that time."
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1065
'That's why I said it's my duty as a grandmother to help you prepare for the wedding. It's not a bother at all. Even if it's troublesome, I'm happy to help." Margaret was still smiling, but her smile used to look a lot more benevolent.
She seemed to have anticipated Alexander's refusal and continued, "Of course, it makes sense for Lily to get more rest since she's pregnant, but she can't stay home all day either. It's not good for the baby. Lily, you must occasionally walk around to get some fresh air.
"Alex, you have been with your grandfather since you were a child and didn't spend much time with me. Then you became busier when you grew up. Since it's so rare for me to be with you, you should spend some time with me now.
"Can you do that for me? I’m getting older, and I don't have much time left. I thought, why not just enjoy our time while I'm still around?" There were tears in Margaret's eyes as she spoke, and she looked sad.
Alexander and Lily sat there in silence. They typically fell for soft words rather than a tough argument. They thought it was best if Margaret showed her tough side, but she used a different tactic this time. She even mentioned Hugo, which would give Alexander a more challenging time refusing his grandmother's offer.
"Grandma, that's not what I meant," Alexander said, "I just feel..."
"He just feels that you might get too tired,” Lily interjected and continued," It's not that we don't appreciate your kindness, but we're afraid you might get too stressed. Still, you're right. I should occasionally go for a walk instead of being bored at home all day.
"I told Alex I wanted to go for a walk before, but he refused to let me leave. He's being a bit too sensitive. Since we’re on the same page, accompany me while I go for a walk!" Lily looked at her husband while speaking smilingly.
Margaret's eyes lit up when she heard what Lily said. She wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and said with a smile, "You're very considerate and know how to take care of the elderly, Lily. Since your wife has agreed, what do you think, Alex? Shall we leave?"
Alexander showed helplessness, glanced at Lily, and said dotingly, "Okay. I know you've been bored at home for a long time, so let's go out together.”
The two changed their clothes while Margaret scanned the house. The house was so big, and she did not know where Alexander would hide the handbook. She did all she could, and now it was up to Ralph to get what he wanted.
Margaret sat still while scanning the house when the couple came down the stairs. She casually stuffed the ring she removed from her finger into the gap between the sofa cushions and stood up, saying, "All right, let’s go!"
The trio got into the car, and the car drove off. Ten minutes later, Ralph's car arrived near the gate, honking carelessly.
"Mr. Ralph, Mr. Russell had just left. Please come back another day," said the housekeeper.
"Oh, what a coincidence! It doesn't matter since I'm not in a hurry. I can go in and wait for them to return." He patted the steering wheel with no intention of leaving.
"I’m sorry, sir. We can’t let you in since Mr. Russell isn’t home."
"What? Do you know who I am? I'm his uncle. Why can’t I visit my nephew at his house?!" Ralph looked dissatisfied. "Hurry up and open the door, or I’ll tell him to fire you!”
However, Alexander had taught his housekeepers well, and they only listened to his orders. They would not let Ralph in, even though he was Alexander’s uncle.
"I’m sorry, sir. I cannot let you in. Please forgive me."
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1064
Looking back, he felt like a monkey being tricked. He thought he was charming and could easily win her heart, but he did not expect that she wanted him only forthat stupid secret handbook.
That meant all of the previous actions, kisses, and coaxing was just for that stupid handbook?
What kind of woman was she? He had never met such a woman, and he did not know what to do with her.
Now that he had figured it out, it did not matter anymore. He was not so obsessed with getting married to her anymore. There were many other people out there for him to choose from, so why would he limit himself to Heather alone?
After gaining the shares from the Riggs and taking over the Russell family, he could quickly get any woman he wanted. It would be better than keeping a ticking bomb by his side. Thinking about it that way, he felt much more comforted. The most urgent thing was to get his hands on the secret handbook.
He drove slowly and was not in a hurry. Margaret needed some time to lure them away. After they left, it would be convenient for him to go in and find what he wanted.
In the Russell house, Margaret smiled, looked at Lily amiably, and said, “I was too strict with you earlier, but now I have figured it out. Your wedding with Alex is approaching, and I don't have anything expensive for you.
"This pair of gold bracelets was my dowry when I got married. Although the style may be old-fashioned, the design is still quite classic. It'll be like a good luck charm for you."
Lily looked at the pair of bracelets in front of her and lightly denied them," Grandma, these are too expensive. I can't bear to take them."
The bracelets were very high-quality. The gold was shiny, and it looked precious. Margaret had probably spent a lot of money on it.
"Hey, you're my granddaughter-in-law, and you have my great-grandson in your belly, so why can’t you accept it? It's my gift to you!" Before Lily could refuse again, Margaret continued, "If you don’t accept it, it means you don't forgive me. It means that you still blame Grandma."
Do older people frequently employ these types of manipulation? Lily turned her head and glanced at Alexander, sitting next to her. Recently, he had been working at home most of the time and would spend a lot of time with her.
Of course, he was also guarding her, not letting her touch those bottles and jars when she was free. He wanted her to have a safe pregnancy.
Alexander’s eyes were soft, and he said softly, "Since grandma said so, you can accept it. It's a gift from her kindness.”
"That's right! Accept it!" Margaret smiled, "According to the customs, I should also take part in preparing the wedding with you, but a while ago..."
After a pause, she coughed lightly and said, "I was stubborn. I was upset with you because I thought you would get married but didn't let me know first. Now I’ve understood. I’m not sure what you young people like, either. The weather is nice today. How about we go shopping? I'd like to choose some gifts for you. Let's spend some time together."
What she said was reasonable and hard for people to refuse.
Lily showed a look of embarrassment. "I rarely go out recently, and Alex wants me to stay at home with peace of mind."
"Yeah, Lily is pregnant now. It's better to go out as little as possible and rest more at home! Besides, Grandma, you don't need to prepare anything. We’re all prepared, so you don’t have to worry about it anymore," Alexander directly refused.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1066
Ralph rolled his eyes at the gatekeeper, but he had expected them to stop him.
He said, 'Then, how can I go inside? I have some urgent matters to discuss with them. You can't expect me to wait outside under the scorching sun, right? Can I enter if Alex grants me entrance permission?"
The gatekeeper was stunned by his suggestion. He did not quite understand what Ralph meant but insisted, "If Mr. Russell allows it, then we won't stop you. However, Mr. Russell is not home."
"Why are you such a knucklehead? Just because he isn’t in doesn't mean I can't call him!" Ralph took out his phone and called Alexander, "Hello, Alex. Why did you leave? Where's my mother?"
Alexander glanced at Margaret, who was next to him, "She's with me."
'With you? I thought she said she'd wait for me, why did you leave without me?! Pass the phone to her!" Ralph complained, unhappy they left him behind.
Margaret noticed Alexander looking at her, so she asked, "What's wrong?"
"Uncle Ralph said you were supposed to wait for him. Is that true?" He asked and handed the phone over to her.
Margaret slapped her thigh, realizing, "Oh, I’ve forgotten all about that! Yes, we were supposed to wait for him before leaving. I was so happy talking to you both that I forgot all about it!"
She said while gently tapping her head and sighing. Margaret took the phone and told Ralph, "I'm sorry. I forgot about you. Why don’t you go home on your own then?"
"Go home? I thought we were supposed to go for tea and watch Broadway together. It’s fine, I'll just wait here for you, but they won't let me enter. Can you ask Alex to tell his men I'll be waiting inside for you? Is he worried I’ll steal something?" Ralph added as he glanced at Alexander's gatekeeper disapprovingly.
"I-I don’t think you should do that," Margaret hesitantly said as she looked at Alexander. "Alex, since it's all my fault, do you think you can allow your uncle to wait for us in your house?"
Alexander glanced at her and said, "I don’t think that's a good idea. Why don't you tell him to go home, and you can reschedule your date? Besides, I don't think you'll have enough time."
"How can I do that? It’s not like they have a show every day. If I miss this, I might not even be able to get tickets for the next one!" Margaret immediately rejected his suggestion.
"Then, how about we turn back now? You can make it for the show then. We can always reschedule our shopping date," Alexander suggested.
Margaret shook her head almost instantly. "You're always so busy. Besides, your wedding date is just around the corner. We can't postpone the shopping anymore."
'Then..." Margaret was acting up. She was insistent on Alexander granting access to Ralph.
"Forget about it. I’ll tell Ralph to go home. We’ll just miss the Broadway show!" She finally waved dismissively.
Margaret was unhappy with this decision, but she noticed something. "Oh no, where's my ring? I had it on my finger a while ago."
"Mom, what ring? Are you okay?" Ralph asked over the phone.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1063
Margaret sighed for a long time and said quietly, "Sigh, I'm already so old. Do you think there is any reason to fight with them or even lose my
temper? I just want to get justice for you so you can live better in the future. N
"I've given birth to quite a few children, but I never had the opportunity of being surrounded by children and grandchildren. I don’t know what sin I've committed, but your brothers all left one by one. It’s not the first time I’ve been to a funeral for my children. I have all my hopes on you, and I hope you'll have a better life in the future."
She raised her hand, the back of which was already full of wrinkles, and gently stroked Ralph's head, looking at him with loving eyes and saying," You're my legacy and my child. I want you to live well. I will leave you someday and want to go at ease."
"Mom, I will grant your wish! You live to be a hundred years old, and your best days are yet to come! You'll be healthy and have grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the future!" When it came to making Margaret happy, Ralph has always had a sweet disposition and never wavered.
Sure enough, Margaret was coaxed into a big smile, "You and your sweet words! Alright, HI meet those two brats tomorrow and lure them out.
Whatever you do is your business. I won't be able to help you much."
Ralph repeatedly nodded, "Mom, don’t worry! I'll know what to do."
After thinking for a while, he said, By the way, didn't Celine go for a DNA test? Are the results out yet?"
"Not so fast! You know your brother is gone, and now you can only search for people from the previous generation. Alexander is so smart, so it's not so easy. Just be patient!" Sighing deeply, Margaret was terrified.
She was looking forward to the result but hoped it would not come out so soon. She was unsure what she would do if the result showed that
Alexander was not a Russell.
However, if he were a biological kin, then she would still want him to know that the grudge in her heart would never be eliminated in her lifetime.
However, for the sake of her children, she must find out the truth!
The wedding was approaching, and the whole city seemed filled with a festive atmosphere.
Alexander made a big scene and put billboards all over the city to announce the good news. He generously offered discounts and issued coupons to everyone in the town to shop in the malls under their company.
While receiving convenience and discounts, everyone also sent blessings to them, as if it were a happy event for the whole city. Everyone was thrilled, except for some people.
With a gloomy face, Ralph watched the billboards on the side of the road flash past his eyes one by one.
Although the sports convertible he was driving today was cool, the surrounding landscape was not very appealing.
Ralph was also getting married soon, and he was a member of the Russell family and an elder, but it seemed like his marriage had nothing to do with anyone else. No one knew about it.
He lacked the resources to put on such a grand show, and Margaret, even if she tried, couldn't compete with Alexander. They could also not use the so-called consumer vouchers, which were simply beyond their means.
As for Heather, she had no plans for the wedding at all. Her thoughts were on that secret book.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1067
Margaret had a worried look. "My ring. It was the ring your father had gifted me for our wedding. I don’t know how I lost it! I had it all this while!" Her face was flustered as she looked everywhere in the car. "Where did it go?"
"Did you forget to put it on when you left? Maybe it's at home?" Lily suggested.
"That's impossible," Margaret denied instantly, "That’s my wedding ring, and I've never taken it off all these years-not even when I go to bed or shower. I would never leave it at home. I must have dropped it somewhere.
I remember I still had it on when I entered your house, and we sat on the sofa chatting.
"That ring is what's left of your grandfather, Alex. I must find it! It's even more precious than my life!" Margaret mumbled as she sadly lowered her head to find it.
Alexander looked at her figure in silence before saying, "It’s most likely not in the car. Maybe you dropped it at our house?"
'That's possible!" Margaret's eyes lit up, "I remember I had it on when I was on your sofa, but now it's gone. Since it's not in the car, it can only be in your house!"
"Let's turn back and search at home!" Alexander exclaimed.
"Don't!" Margaret immediately stopped him. "It's already late, and it would be a waste of time if we turn back now. Why don't we finish what we intended to do and then go home to look for it?"
"You said the ring was significant to you," Lily added, "We can always go shopping some other time. Let's go home and find your ring."
"No, no, It’s fine!” Margaret held onto Lily's hand and continued, 'Yes, the ring is important, but it's rare that I get to come out with you. I...”
"Mom? Did you find the ring?" Ralph's voice came from the phone, interrupting her.
Margaret suddenly recalled, 'Your uncle is at your place, so why don't you let him in? If he finds it, he can send it to us after. Then we can finish our shopping, and I can still make it for my show. Isn't that a better idea?"
"B-But..." Lily hesitated and looked at Alexander. Alexander remained silent as he was deep in thought.
Looking at the couple's reaction, Margaret became restless and growled," Isn't that the best way? Why are you hesitating? Is it so difficult to let your uncle into your home? It's not like he's some stranger-he's family!
"I'm sure if your father were still alive, he would disagree with your attitude. Besides, what's so precious inside your house? You have so many housekeepers at home. Are you afraid your uncle will steal something?
"Alex, you're too guarded. My whole life, I only wished we could be a harmonious family. How am I supposed to tell your grandfather about our family when I die?" Margaret sighed. Seeing that Alexander still refused to give in, she spoke into the phone, "Ralph, since your nephew doesn't trust you, you should just..."
"Let him in," Alexander replied.
Lily looked at him in surprise, while Margaret was taken aback, "Are you sure?"
Alexander took the phone from Margaret's hand and said, "Uncle Ralph, Grandmother's ring is most likely under the sofa in our living room. You can get housekeepers to help you with the search. Once you find it, please bring it over to the shopping mall we’re in. Call us when you find it." "No problem!" Ralph promised.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1068
Ralph had intentionally turned on his phone speaker so that the gatekeeper could hear what Alexander said. "So, can I enter now?"
Since the property owner had agreed, there was no reason for the gatekeeper to stop him. Ralph drove his car slowly into Alexander's house as he felt a sense of accomplishment.
Alexander’s residence was a place not easily accessible to just anyone, including him. Ralph could not help but feel proud of himself as he waltzed freely into the compound. When he got to the living room, he saw maids all around, searching meticulously for the ring.
Ralph immediately ordered, 'TH search for it on my own. You can all leave now!"
"B-But Mr. Russell told us to help,” one of the maids explained.
"It’s fine! You don’t even know what the ring looks like! Besides, just because Alexander trusts you doesn't mean I do! My mother's ring cost a fortune and could even be considered our family heirloom. How would I know if you’d be tempted to keep it when you find it?" Ralph said to the maids rudely.
This unreasonable statement angered the maids, "Mr. Ralph, eventhough we’re just maids, we still have our integrity intact. We’ve been in Mr.
Russell's household for a long time, and there has never been a theft reported within this household. You shouldn't humiliate us like this."
"Humiliate you? I’ve said that just because Alexander trusts you, doesn't mean I do. What you're looking for now is my mother's ring. If we still can't find it, are you willing to take the responsibility?" Ralph walked toward the living room, "If you let me look for it on my own, it won’t be your responsibility if I can't find it, or else, we'll know who to blame!’’
The other maids stood in silence as no one wanted to bear the responsibility, but they were not willing to just leave either. Ralph was getting restless as they were only wasting precious time. Alexander's household was just like him, stubborn and uncompromising.
'There are so many security cameras here. I couldn't possibly steal anything, even if I wanted to. If you continue to obstruct me, I'll call the police and get them to question you for trying to steal my mother's ring!" Ralph yelled and pointed at them.
At that moment, Alexander's butler intervened, "Since Mr. Ralph insisted on finding the ring on his own, and Mr. Russell had also given us his instructions, we'll gladly leave you to your business."
The other maids decided to listen to the butler and left.
The butler turned to Ralph and said politely, "Please take your time in your search. However, Mrs. Margaret did not leave the living room, so her ring is most likely here. The first floor is Mr. and Mrs. Russell's bedroom. Please refrain from intruding. Thank you for understanding!"
"Fine, fine," Ralph said dismissively as he raised his head to look at the first floor. "Enough babbling, and leave now!"
The butler just smiled at his rudeness and left. Ralph was left alone in the living room. Aside from the security cameras, there was pin-drop silence.
At first, Ralph was not sure where he should start, but what the butler said gave him some information. The best place to hide something was to hide it close to you. Ralph was sure that the thing he was looking for was definitely on the first floor, where their bedroom was!
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1069
Ralph ran straight to the first floor. He did not know which room was Alexander's bedroom, but as he observed the rooms along the corridor, one door to a room was tightly shut. There was obviously something in the room.
He walked toward the bedroom, and as he was about to turn the knob, he stopped. If this was Alexander's bedroom and the book was in there, he would not be able to enter that easily. Ralph was sure that this room would be filled with traps.
Alexander was a cautious person. He had ensured that his house was well- equipped with the latest security measures. It was impossible that he would leave this room unsecured.
With this in mind, Ralph carefully turned the doorknob, and he was surprised to find that the room was unlocked. This was very suspicious.
After giving it some thought, he decided to take the risk. After all, he was already here. He took out a piece of wood from his pocket and pushed the door open with it. He investigated the slightly ajar door and saw a huge bed in the room. He immediately recognized the layout-it was definitely the master bedroom!
Ralph could not hold in his excitement, but he did not rush into the room abruptly either. He made sure that he had enough space to enter and took out expensive, custom-made glasses that could detect laser beams.
The moment he put the glasses on, a series of overlapping laser beams appeared in the vast bedroom. Ralph smirked in satisfaction as he applauded himself for being well-prepared! If he had just entered blindly, he would have activated those beams.
The aftermath would either be him suffering from injuries or, worse, having to explain to Alexander why he was in his bedroom.
Fortunately, he was prepared for this. He moved slowly and carefully across the laser-covered room, bending, and crawling toward the safe. A few times, he almost touched the beams, but luckily, he could catch himself before he fell.
When he finally got to the safe, he sighed in relief. His back was drenched entirely in sweat. It was not an easy task, as he had to ensure that he did not touch any of the laser beams while not making a sound to avoid alerting the housekeepers.
Ralph gritted his teeth and decided to take the risk as he thought about the company shares he was about to obtain and the riches that would come with them. He crouched and looked at the safe in detail. The safe was an old-style safe that had a dial on it. Ralph needed to make sure that he could get all three digits correct before the safe would open.
He had seen this type of safe before. It was at the office, and he had seen one in Alexander's room. When he was in the room with Alexander, he took the opportunity to memorize the password he had seen Alexander use while unlocking the safe.
Initially, he had done it so that he could steal some confidential documents for his own personal gains. However, the password he had seen might just be able to crack this safe.
If the two safes were the same kind, would their passwords be the same as well? Even though Ralph had seen people cracking these kinds of safes using a stethoscope on TV, he did not know how it worked. Besides, he did not have one, so it was useless.
While Ralph was still hesitating on how to proceed, he heard some noise from the ground floor. He could not help but feel nervous about it. What if those housekeepers came upstairs, or worse, what if Alexander came home? He could not afford to wait any longer.
Spoiled by Mr. Russell Chapter 1070
Ralph decided to try it. He gritted his teeth and recalled the password he saw in Alexander's office. He began to move the dial slowly out of fear that he might accidentally trigger the trap.
Just then, he heard a slight click sound, and he could feel that the safe had unlocked. He was overjoyed!
He stopped just as he was about to open the safe and decided to use the piece of wood.
When he opened the safe, a "whoosh" sound was heard, followed by a cool breeze, and two sharp arrows were currently stabbed into the ground in front of the opened safe. Ralph could not help the shiver down his spinethat was such a close call!
Ralph was right to predict that Alexander still set other traps. It was exactly his style to do something like this. His gaze fell upon a book within the safe. Ralph was elated. He wanted to cheer out loud with joy so badly.
This was it! Lying in a safe in Alexander’s bedroom and guarded by layers of booby traps, it was definitely the secret kickboxing handbook!
He had never expected his father to own something as priceless as this. However, it was also unbelievable that he would ignore his own son and pass it on to his grandson instead. They did not even inform him of something like this.
How could they do this?!
If it were not for Heather, he would not have been able to get a glimpse into this secret at all. He could not help but complain about his father while putting on gloves and carefully taking out the book. The book had a dark navy cover, and it looked ancient. It was bound together with a string, and as Ralph roughly looked through it, he was sure that this book was what he was looking for, as there were pictures of strange fighting positions.
Ralph had never learned any type of self-defense skill, so he did not understand the illustrations found in the book. There were also no words written in the book, and only a few words were sitting at the bottom of the last page.
It read, "our family heirloom." However, there was no clear indication that this family heirloom belonged to which family, as no surname was written.
Since he was sure that this book was it, he took out a piece of cloth and carefully wrapped the book with it, and then he placed it into his jacket pocket. He had learned this method from some TV program. By putting on gloves and wrapping the book with a piece of cloth, he could avoid leaving his fingerprints on it.
After successfully getting what he had come for, he was relieved and left the room with light footsteps. He was moving faster than before and made sure to close the safe properly. He checked meticulously to ensure he did not leave fingerprints behind and checked for security cameras. Still, it would be pointless for Alexander to be upset after Ralph had given this to Heather.
He moved downstairs with a light skip in his footsteps, indicating that he was in a good mood while he whistled to a tune he loved. Ralph walked to the sofa and pulled a ring from his pocket as the butler entered. "Mr. Ralph, did you find it?"
Ralph spun the ring in his hand and grumbled to the butler, "Stop rushing me! Don't you know that it's hard to find such a small piece of jewelry? I'm doing this all for you. If it weren’t for me, you'd probably face theft charges from my mother!"
