“I know what’s the number,” Alexander came up from behind Lily and held her hand. Then he turned to Edward. “You can go now.”
Edward nodded and left, not forgetting to close the door behind him.
“Seriously? You’re jealous because of this? I was just trying to help Olivia!” Lily waved her phone in front of Alexander to remind him.
“Of course, I know that!” Alexander pinched her nose lightly and pulled her to sit next to him. “So, what did Justin say?”
“I think he was worried about something. He didn’t say much, but I’m sure he knows something. I just don’t know why he would allow them to do as they please,” Lily elaborated.
Alexander thought for a few seconds before asking, “You’re saying he has given up his position as the head of the family?”
“I’m assuming he did it to prevent the family from getting into a feud. However, judging from the current situation, I don’t think that’s working.” Lily had never expected this many problems to arise immediately after her grandfather’s death.
Most of the Lodge family’s elders were here, and they caused a huge commotion at the funeral. Lily was genuinely upset about how the situation had turned out.
“On the surface, it seems like the elders are using their authority and isolating you and Justin. Am I right?” Alexander questioned.
Lily nodded solemnly. “I never expected Henry to cause such a huge problem to the family.”
On the other hand, Alexander just shook his head in disagreement. “I don’t think so. Just Henry alone would not be able to stir up such a huge commotion. It’s all because people are supporting him. Besides, the only thing that could cause such a huge commotion was their personal interests.”
Lily agreed with everything Alexander had said. She also speculated that the elders united because of their intertwined personal interests.
“I thought with their growing age, their appetite would be less ambitious, and they would be content with their share of profits from the family,” Lily sighed in disappointment.
During today’s confrontation, Lily noticed that most of the family elders were neutral toward who the head family was. Still, when Henry stood up and expressed dissatisfaction, most. elders immediately took his side. Lily assumed this was likely due to him promising certain benefits to the elders.
“Even if the elders are against it, Justin has been the head of the family for many years. How can he just give up his position so easily? He could always use his authority as the head of the family to overrule their opinions. Why would he allow them to walk over him like that?!” Lily said frustratingly.
Looking at her flustered face, Alexander laughed softly, “You think they walked over him?”
Lily was speechless for a moment.
“He merely gave up his position only temporarily. Besides, don’t you remember who he gave
it to?” Alexander explained patiently.
“You’re saying Justin had intentionally given the position to Granduncle Jonathan so that this would lead to a disagreement between themselves?” Lily could finally understand Justin’s intentions after giving it some thought
Still, she was slightly doubtful. “Even so, since the head position is already in their hands, they will never give it back to Justin.”
Alexander extended his index finger and lightly tapped Lily’s forehead before continuing, Justin didn’t give them the rights to the company, did he? Giving up his power as the family head isn’t as simple as handing over a few keys and some documents.
“Being the family head, especially to a prestigious family such as the Lodge family, isn’t as simple as you think. As you said, Justin has held this position for a few years. Don’t you think he has already built up some of his own connections and ways to handle conflicts that arise?”
Lily felt enlightened, “I’m such a fool! Why didn’t I think of that!‘
“You’re not a fool. You’re too focused on your work to care about the corporate politics and dramas around you. Honestly, I’d prefer if you don’t know anything about these issues if it’s possible. I would never want you to get caught up in something like this,” Alexander clarified. as he gently stroked his wife’s hair.
He told her lovingly, “I should be the one dealing with such dirty matters.”
“I can’t always be hiding behind you either. There are some things I must face on my own, Lily concluded after some thought. She sat up straight and looked into her husband’s eyes. Considering how they are, I don’t think they will try to search for the real culprit who killed. my grandfather. They’ll probably try to pin this on either Justin or me within these three. days.”

“No, there’s not going to be an ‘or,“” Alexander remarked while waving in disagreement. ” They’ll only pin it on Justin.”
The elders treated Lily as an outsider to this issue, even though they wanted to form a coup, take over as the family head, and reap the benefits that came with it.
However, it would be challenging for the elders to overthrow Justin as the family head if they did not push the cause of Wilfred’s death onto the scented candles he had used, primarily since the family doctor had always overseen Wilfred’s health.
“That’s why I want to look for the culprit who sabotaged the scented candles as soon as possible,” Lily said while frowning, “Justin said he, Roger, and I were the only ones who directly came in contact with the scented candles.
“However, Roger has been with our family for a long time and has been unwaveringly loyal to Grandpa, so it can’t be him. I don’t understand. How and when did the culprit do this?”
Alexander deduced, “The Lodge family’s residence is huge, and several people come and once. Besides, so many people come for training in the morning, so it’s hard to ensure that no go at

“All right. Now, we only need to remove any uncertainties by ensuring that couldn’t have happened. Ultimately, we’ll be able to obtain an accurate result, regardless of how unlikely it may seem.” Then Alexander stood up and stretched his arms. “Let’s go.”
“Go where?” Lily stared at him wide–eyed, obviously surprised by his sudden change.
Alexander lowered his head to look at his wife and said half–jokingly, “We’ve just had our meal, and it’s time to walk it off. Besides, I haven’t fully explored where you once lived, so it’s time you brought me around!”
Lily was silent for a moment as she looked outside. It was already dark, but the house’s front porch was still brightly lit.
‘Alex is right. It doesn’t matter what happened in the past since it’s the same Lodge family I once knew. This is where I grew up, after all. It’s my house, so why should I feel afraid?‘ Lily thought.
“Sure, why not!” She smiled gladly.
At the Tanner family’s company building, Arianna entered their new project manager’s room after knocking on the door to inform him she was coming in.
A strong scent greeted Arianna when she entered. She took a few steps back while coughing. and sneezing for a while before her body managed to adjust to the smell.
“What on earth are you doing?” She frowned while waving one of her hands back and forth, with the other covering her nose. She noticed many bottles scattered around in his room, and some of the bottles were releasing gasses that made the room smell strange. Arianna was having a hard time catching her breath here.
“If you want to kill yourself with these gases, could you do it elsewhere instead of inside the company building?!” She walked further into the room and opened the window. Then she turned to look at Nathaniel and said, “We need to talk.”

“Something happened within the Lodge family. Do you know about it?” Arianna asked.
“You mean that the old man from the Lodge family is dead?” Nathaniel calmly replied as he started to clean up his bottles while studying them closely.
“Of course, that’s not all. Have you heard of Henry Lodge?” Arianna sat on Nathaniel’s chair and looked at him. “Since you’re Lily’s ex–boyfriend, you must know a thing or two about the Lodge family, right?”
Nathaniel sneered mockingly as the fingers that were fiddling with the incense stopped. Moments later, he continued, acting as if nothing had happened, “If it weren’t for Mother telling me about it, I wouldn’t have known she was from the Lodge family. So, how much do you think I know?”
“Huh?” His answer surprised Arianna. “Wow, you were quite a horrible boyfriend then.”
“That’s all in the past now!” His downcast eyes showed no emotions. “Why are you here, Ari? I’m sure it’s not just to lecture me.
Arianna drawled while playing with a pen on Nathaniel’s office table, “Since you don’t know the Lodge family…”
“Did I say I’m not familiar with them?!” Nathaniel snapped.
“Didn’t you…” Arianna was shocked. Just a while ago, he said he did not even know Lily was from the Lodge family, so how much could he possibly know about the family?
“Just because I didn’t know much about them last time doesn’t mean I’m still clueless. Also, it shouldn’t mean I’ll continue being ignorant.” Nathaniel stopped studying his incense bottle. and stared at his sister.
Then he smiled coyly and continued, “Henry Lodge is that old man’s youngest son, but he’s not much older than either Lily or Justin. He should’ve been the one to inherit the family head position, but he left the family years ago, and no one had heard of his whereabouts since. The Lodge family never tried searching for him, so it was as if they’d forgotten that he existed.”
His information was accurate, so Arianna nodded and commented, “That’s right, no one had expected him to return to the family at a time like this. Besides, his timing was impeccable. Who knew something this huge had happened within the Lodge family?”
“It was no coincidence at all,” Nathaniel smirked as he lifted his hand to pinch the bridge of his nose and sneezed softly. “Do you know why Henry left the Lodge family in the first place?”
“You know the reason?” Arianna lifted an eyebrow and turned to him with interest.
It took a lot of work to obtain detailed information about the Lodge family. Arianna had personally tried to dig for information, but as the family was very low–profile, information about them was scarce. Hence, there was a limited amount of information about Henry too.
She only knew he had left the family ten years ago, but she was sure no one knew what he had been up to or where he had gone all these years. Besides, no one cared about him after he left the family.
“The Lodge family is a mysterious and influential family skilled in kickboxing. There aren’
many families skilled in martial arts anymore in today’s modern society. Henry was gifted in martial arts and was supposed to take over as the family head. Still, for some reason, the family banished and stripped him of his ability to practice the Lodge family’s kickboxing…”
“Wait, did you just say banished?” Arianna could not help but interrupt Nathaniel, shocked by this discovery.
Nathaniel stopped, glanced at her briefly, and nodded.
“Is your information credible?” Arianna frowned as she was skeptical of Nathaniel’s information. “If he were banished, that would’ve been huge news. Even if they tried to hide it, the Lodge family elders would’ve heard of this. Why would they still side with Henry, knowing he got banished from the family?

“This is getting interesting,” Nathaniel took a seat in front of Arianna and took the he had made a while ago. He took a sip and drawled under Arianna’s intense gaze, “This could only mean that they were tied together by greed and a shared interest!”

Arianna did not get the chance to answer before he continued, “Don’t tell me things like blood is thicker than water or we’re helping each other because we’re siblings. Those are bullsh*t excuses that you and I don’t believe in. We can only sit here together to discuss our plan for one reason. We have the same goal in mind, and this plan would benefit both of us. Am I right?”
Arianna looked at Nathaniel with a solemn gaze.
“You don’t need to look at me that way.” Nathaniel chuckled. “I told you we’re not enemies, at least not now. You’ll always be my dearest younger sister as long as we’re after the same thing. I’ll be your older brother who can assist you too.”
Arianna said nothing and just stared at Nathaniel in silence for a moment. Shrugging, she started, “Okay then. You’re right. Let’s talk about the Lodge family now. Since you have such a clear understanding of them, what are your thoughts about it?”
“What thoughts do you think I should have, or what are your thoughts instead?”
She had come looking for him because she had her own plan.
“You mentioned that we’re after the same thing. We want to have a place in the Tanner Corporation and get what we both desire, but we can’t do that alone. If we could get the Lodge. family’s support, I can assure you that we’re halfway there. Shouldn’t we hold onto it tightly now that we have such a great opportunity?” Arianna got straight to the point.
“What are your plans then?” Nathaniel asked, smiling as he sipped on his tea.
“Get Henry to be on our team. We can help him to become the head of the Lodge family. He owes us a favor, which would definitely be useful to us in the future.”
“How can we get him to be on our side?”
His endless questions irritated Arianna. Straightening her back, she snapped, “Aren’t I supposed to be asking you questions? Why is it the other way around now? I saved you from debtors back then, not to have you reap the benefits here without doing anything!”

“What does that have to do with anything you’re doing now?” Arianna still could not get it. ” You’re not thinking of replicating the exact candle, are you?”
There was mockery in her voice. It was a fact that Nathaniel did not know how to create fragrances even after many years in the industry. He would not have to trick Lily if he had the capabilities himself.
“I wouldn’t know how to do that.” Nathaniel only smiled in the face of her mockery instead of getting mad. “That doesn’t mean other people won’t know how to do it. Don’t underestimate these candles. Once you add a little something extra in it…”
He gestured with his fingers to show her how little the amount had to be used to reach the effect he was talking about. “Just this bit is needed, and then it could kill someone silently.”
Arianna felt a chill run down her spine as she looked into his eyes, subconsciously causing her to rub her arms.
“Okay. Stop beating around the bush. To clarify, you had someone else make a copy
of Lily’s candle but included something else, right? How would you know if it were the same? Why would Henry even need that?”
Arianna saw where his strategy was headed and was curious about why Nathaniel was so sure of his success.
“Henry has done so much up to this point, and he’s so close to getting what he wants. He needed convincing evidence, and the candle was his best bet. It’s just that, besides Lily, nobody in the Lodge family knew anything about perfume making. That meant Henry was in a tough spot because he had to think of a way to put the poison in the candle without making it obvious.”
“That’s why he’ll accept your help, and when we help him to secure his position, he’ll owe you a favor.” Arianna nodded. She found that his plan made sense.
Everything was under their control. Never had Arianna imagined that such a change would happen within the Lodge family. This was an opportunity the heavens gave her!
Arianna had been pondering ways to connect with someone more powerful. After all, she had offended Alexander because of Brittany. She was aware that he was too busy just now to care about her but that when he did, Alexander would ensure he taught her a lesson.
She wanted to win the game, and that meant she had to make a move first and get herself someone strong to back her up. “By the way, Henry could take over Justin’s place in managing the Lodge family, but don’t forget that he’d lost all his kickboxing skills. It’ll be tough for him. to secure his position, even if he were to succeed in replacing Justin, without having any basic kickboxing skills.”
Since they were going to form an alliance, it was essential for them to get someone who was brilliant and capable on their team. It would be a waste of their time and effort if they were to help Henry get whatever he wanted, only for him to lose it all in the end.
“We don’t need to worry about that. I’m sure Henry is well–aware of this and has his own. plans to secure his position.”
Seeing Arianna’s dubious look, Nathaniel simply mentioned, “I heard he went through some adventures during the years he was abroad. Most of the people who came back with him this. time were skillful in combat, and judging from their moves and reaction time, they’re probably well–versed in kickboxing too. I’m just not sure which kickboxing family they’re from. I’m certain Henry has made ample preparations since he dared return for the crown.”
He continued after a pause, “It’s true that all members of the Lodge family practice kickboxing, but I haven’t seen any prodigies among them all these years. Rather than being low–key, I’d guess their level of skills was declining. It might be sufficient for them to combat. normal people, but it might be nothing compared to other kickboxing families, am I right?”

“What is it?” Arianna leaned forward and smiled kindly, looking as gentle as possible.
However, Damian did not continue–instead, he flickered his gaze in Nathaniel’s direction and frowned impatiently.
Nathaniel, leaning on the table, sipping his tea, looked back at Damian with an innocent gaze when he realized Damian was staring at him.
The two just locked gazes for a moment, and sure enough, the younger one could no longer hold it in and pursed his lips. “Don’t you know how to read the room? Can’t you see that we, the company’s higher management, have something important to discuss? Get out now!”
Silence filled the air for a moment before Nathaniel spoke. “Who? Me?” With a surprised look, he pointed at Damian, then at himself as if he was frightened. “T–This is my office, though.”
“What do you mean by it’s yours? This entire building belongs to my family! What are you. rambling about? I’ll fire you if you don’t do as I say!” Damian rebuked arrogantly, sounding like the Tanner Corporation was already under his control.
“B–But I… Ms. Tanner…”
Nathaniel appeared riled up, then turned to look at Arianna. Anyone would think that Nathaniel was feeling hopeless because there was nothing he could do after being wronged.
Arianna maintained her gentle smile, not showing any signs of anger at Damian’s words. Instead, she waved at Nathaniel. “Oh, didn’t you tell me you had to leave to attend to some matters? Why don’t you go and manage them now? By the way, lend me your office for a moment. My brother and I will be discussing something here.”
With that, Nathaniel could only purse his lips, looking unwilling to leave but having no choice. but to do as Arianna said. “Okay then. I’ll be going now, Ms. Tanner.”
Then he straightened his back and smoothened his clothes before looking at Damian in dissatisfaction and leaving the room.
Damian had his chin held high smugly as if he had just won a battle, clicking his tongue when Nathaniel closed the door. He averted his disdainful gaze from the door and looked at Arianna. “Ari, how can that guy be a manager in our company? I heard you were the one who recruited. him, weren’t you? You sure have low standards for your employees!”
Faced with Damian’s harsh accusations, Arianna remained calm. There was not much of a change in her expression either. Smiling, she replied, “Hey, the company needs all the staffing it can get now. Although he’s a bit dumb and not sensible, he’s experienced and hast many connections. Let’s just keep him for the time being.”
Damian scrunched his nose, obviously disapproving of her words.
After that, Arianna asked him, “Oh right, why were you looking for me?”
Her question reminded Damian of something, and he patted his thigh. “Right! I almost forgot
about the most important thing! Ari, I heard the company had established a new branch specializing in researching and developing perfumes, cosmetics, and all that jazz. Is that right?”
“Yeah. The department you’re in right now is preparing for the new branch’s opening,” Arianna said, nodding.
“Leave that task to me then!” Damian’s eyes lit up, looking excited about the project. “You?”

He muttered while shaking a packet of tissue he picked up from the table. As he waved along the rhythm of his speech, the tissues fell piece by piece. “Those are just empty promises! They’re all fake.”
Although he appeared to be mumbling to himself, he glanced at Arianna several times as he spoke and dragged out his words.
“Damian, don’t say that!” Arianna got up and walked over to him, her hand placed on his shoulder lightly. In a gentle tone, she said, “I didn’t say you can’t do it. I was just surprised by your request. Why do you want to move over to the new branch?”
Hearing that she accepted his earlier request, Damian’s eyes brightened again while his head shot up. “Are you willing to let me be in charge of that?”
“We’ll talk about that later. You need to give me a reason for your sudden interest, don’t you?” Then she continued in a softer voice, “It’s not easy to select and appoint a person in charge for a branch, especially a new one like this. I need to listen to your thoughts first.”
As Damian did not get a confirmation from Arianna, he became dissatisfied again. However, there was nothing wrong with her words either. Hence, he could only reply grumpily, “The new branch will be challenging for me. All the other projects in the company have been around for years and are already well–developed.

Upon seeing Damian’s excitement when talking about his plans for the new branch, Arianna had a cold smirk on her face.
‘What an idi*t! He just wants to be in charge of the new branch to flirt with female celebrities. How can he be the Tanner Corporation’s next successor with thoughts like that?! What right
does he have to snatch what I’ve been working hard on for so long?”
“Ari, please let me be in charge of the new branch!” Damian was tired of persuading her and went back to the topic.

Lily was rendered speechless by what she heard. Then, glancing at the rearview mirror, she noticed the man who had tried to stop her trotting back into the house, seeming to go back to report what had happened.
She could see through Henry’s ambitions, but what did Jonathan want? Was he on the same boat as Henry, or were they just forming an alliance out of their selfishness?
