Ch. 376..380: The Adorable Twins and Their CEO Daddy Chapter 376-380

Chapter 376

“Mom! She cheated on me. How can you side with this bitch?” Huey snarled, pointing an accusatory finger at the crying Nana.

“What are you waiting for? Get him out of here!”

Pursing her lips tightly, Rosamond cast a sharp glance at the security guards.

Despite their confusion, the security guards obediently rushed forward and dragged Huey out of the restaurant.

Struggling against them, Huey cried, “What are you doing? I’m the son of the Layton family!”

Turning a deaf ear to him, the security guards dragged him away while he was kicking and screaming.

“Your boss is my mother!” Huey continued to protest.

But the security guards just threw him out of the restaurant coldly and closed the door behind him.

Stranded outside the restaurant like a nobody, Huey could do nothing but stamp his feet in anger. He cursed, “Nana, wait and see. I will definitely get back at you for this!”

The commotion at the door of Lakeside Restaurant attracted the attention of passers-by.

Coincidentally, Corbin happened to be walking past that very restaurant.

It took him barely a glance to recognize the man who was shouting at the door like a madman.

Wasn’t that Nana’s ex-boyfriend? What was he doing here?

Then he thought of the woman who looked like Nana at the gate of the manor this morning, Corbin’s heart sank as he put two and two together. Was Nana here?

Just then, an acquaintance of Corbin’s walked out of the restaurant. Corbin immediately stepped forward and stopped that man.

“Victor, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you.”

Victor Lyons paused and said in surprise, “Corbin, what a coincidence! What are you doing here?”

“Victor, do you know what happened inside? Who is that guy at the door?” Corbin asked hurriedly, glancing at Huey before even exchanging pleasantries.

Victor’s eyes widened in shock. “You don’t know yet? That guy is Rosamond’s son, Huey Layton. Rosamond came here today to see Huey’s ex-fiancee, the woman who ran out on Huey before their wedding.”

A sharp glint flickered in Corbin’s eyes. By ex-fiancee, did Victor mean Nana? That meant she really was here!

Shaking his head with a sigh, Victor continued, “Miss Deleon can be scary when she gets angry. If she can be this cruel to her own son, I don’t even want to know what she will do to his ex-fiancee. Alas…”

Hearing that, Corbin became distraught.

He knew that he had to go to Nana’s rescue right away. Even though Nana could be a fiery woman, she was no match for Rosamond!

Corbin darted into the restaurant without a second thought. The security guards who were stationed outside ignored him completely, only keen on stopping Huey from entering the restaurant.

As soon as Corbin stepped into the restaurant, he saw Nana standing there crying.

It seemed that things were just as he feared: Nana was being bullied.

Without hesitation, he strode over and stood protectively in front of Nana.

“Miss Deleon, what are you doing?”

Nana was so taken aback by Corbin’s sudden arrival that her tears froze in her eyes.

When she noticed that Corbin was staring at Rosamond with an unfriendly look in his eyes, she whimpered, “Corbin… I… I’m fine…”

Corbin was even more distressed upon seeing Nana’s reddened eyes.

“How can you be fine? You’re crying!”

Unable to hold back his anger anymore, he turned to Rosamond and snapped, “Miss Deleon, you are a big shot in the business world. How can you bully a girl in her early twenties? Don’t you think you’re doing something that is beneath you? What’s more, she almost became your daughter-in-law before. You should at least treat her with basic courtesy.”

These harsh words grated on Rosamond’s nerves.

Who was this man to suddenly barge in here and stand up for Nana?

Suppressing her annoyance, she asked the assistant next to her, “Who is he?”

The assistant replied in a hurry, “He seems to be Mr. Moran’s assistant. His name is… Corbin Jenkins.”

Realizing that the man in front of her was just a mere assistant, Rosamond sneered, “Do you have any idea who you are talking to? Even your boss, Maurice, would never dare to offend me. Believe it or not, I can easily get you fired. You’ll never have a chance to become an assistant again!”

Corbin knew the consequences of offending Rosamond, but he had no regrets. Even in the face of her threat, he didn’t back down.

He just held Nana’s hand firmly and stood in front of her and the twins.

“This has nothing to do with Mr. Moran. I’ll take responsibility for what I have done.”

After saying that, he wanted to leave with Nana and the twins.

Nana had never seen this side of Corbin before. As she held Corbin’s hand, her heart raced.

Chapter 377

“Did I say that you could leave?”

Rosamond’s tone was cold, and the aura emanating from her sent a chill down everyone’s spine.

Not wanting to get on her bad side, the security guards instantly rushed forward, blocking Nana and Corbin’s way.

Corbin straightened up and instinctively spread his arms in front of Nana and the children, shielding them from the guards.

The whole restaurant fell into silence, and the tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife.

At this time, a soft childish voice sounded, as if from a dream.

“Rosamond, please don’t blame Corbin and Nana, okay?”

Aileen timidly poked her head out from behind Corbin’s back.

Seizing the opportunity, Adrian immediately chipped in, “Yes! Rosamond, you are so beautiful and kind- hearted. Don’t be angry with them. You will get wrinkles if you are angry.”

It was only upon hearing these two adorable twins speak that Rosamond’s gloomy face began to soften, and a smile bloomed on her face.

“Don’t worry, children. I was just kidding. Look at you two, you’re so adorable. How could I hurt you?”

The truth was, Rosamond wasn’t angry with Corbin at all. She just wanted to see how far he would go to protect Nana.

After seeing that he was ready to lose his job and his cushy life just for Nana’s sake, Rosamond was quite satisfied. In her book, Corbin had passed the test.

Nana and Corbin exchanged a glance, as if to confirm that they were both really seeing the same thing.

They were taken aback by the sudden change in Rosamond’s attitude, and it took them a moment to realize that she was just teasing them.

Nana bowed to Rosamond and said, “Thank you for your understanding, Miss Deleon. I’m sorry to have troubled you.”

Rosamond shook her head with a bitter smile. “Nana, I’m the one who should be saying sorry. Huey has wronged you too much. I’m sorry that we couldn’t be a family. Someday, if there is a chance, I would like to apologize to your parents face to face.”

Nana gasped and hurriedly waved her hand. “Miss Deleon, please don’t say that! You did nothing wrong.”

In fact, if Huey weren’t such a contemptible man, Nana would be happy to have a reasonable mother- in-law like Rosamond.

At this time, Rosamond’s assistant stepped forward and whispered something in her ear. The change in Rosamond’s posture and expression was almost imperceptible, but effective, instantly transforming her into the powerful businesswoman that made everyone awestruck.

“Nana, I have some business to deal with. But feel free to stay in the manor and have a good time today. Don’t worry about the expenses. Take it as a token of my apology to you.”

Hearing the sincerity in Rosamond’s voice, Nana didn’t have the heart to refuse her.

“Alright, Miss Deleon, thank you.”

Meanwhile, Corbin, who had long realized that he had somehow misunderstood the whole situation and jumped the gun to rush to Nana’s defense, just stood aside awkwardly as the two women spoke.

But with Rosamond’s departure, Nana and Corbin couldn’t avoid addressing the situation any longer.

Both of them were flushed red with embarrassment, and there was a hint of romance in the air.

“Mr. Jenkins, Nana isn’t in any trouble. Why are you still holding her hand?” Aileen teased, smiling playfully at Corbin.

Corbin immediately let go of Nana’s hand as if he had been burned.

“I… I… I just…” Corbin stammered.

He was in such a panic that his mind went blank.

Nana stared at him with bright eyes and smiled knowingly. “Why did you protect me just now?”

In his heart, Corbin already knew the answer to this question. It was because he had feelings for Nana.

The words made it to the tip of his tongue, but on second thought, he swallowed them back. He might have been fearless when facing Rosamond, but when it came to Nana, he was a coward.

“Because… Because you’re my friend. Friends should help each other when they’re in trouble, right?”

The moment Nana heard Corbin’s explanation, the spark in her eyes dimmed.

Were they just friends in Corbin’s eyes?

Nana’s heart sank in disappointment.

The romance in the air seemed to dissipate.

To diffuse the awkward atmosphere, Corbin hastily changed the topic.

“Now you should tell me what had happened, Nana.”

With a deep sigh, Nana reluctantly told him the whole story.

After listening to the whole thing, Corbin couldn’t understand what Nana had been thinking. How could she have come up with such a bad idea?

“It’s okay for you to tell lies, but how can you drag the children into this? What if they learn to tell lies?” Corbin chided, leaving a playful knock on Nana’s head.

“I know it was stupid of me. But I had no choice. I won’t lie again. I promise!”

Holding her head and wincing in mock pain, Nana made a promise to Corbin.

Looking at her pitiful face, Corbin didn’t have the heart to scold her anymore. Instead, he squatted down and stared seriously at the children.

“Kids, you shouldn’t tell lies. Don’t learn bad things from Nana, okay?”

After a moment of silence, Adrian suddenly asked, “Mr. Jenkins, do you know what a white lie is?”

Chapter 378

“A white lie?”

Corbin was stunned and didn’t understand what Adrian meant.

Imitating Nana’s way of speaking, Adrian explained, “Yes. Nana said, there are two kinds of lies in this world. There are lies that are bad, but there are also lies called white lies. The lie we told today was a white lie.”

After hearing Adrian’s words, Corbin couldn’t help looking at the little boy with disbelief.

He glared at Nana and wanted to correct the twins that she had misled.

He cleared his throat and commented, “But a white lie is still a lie. We have to be honest people.”

“Haven’t you ever told a white lie, Mr. Jenkins?”

Aileen blinked her big eyes and looked at Corbin curiously.

Corbin was at a loss for words.

He had told a lot of lies.

Because of this, he was speechless and didn’t know how to address the surprising inquisitiveness of the twins.

How smart these children were! No wonder they were good friends with Silas. They were all shrewd.

The more Corbin stared at them, the more he felt that they… looked like they were Maurice’s children.

There were many doubts in Corbin’s mind.

He made a mental note to investigate the twins’ real parentage. What if Eliana had cheated him and Maurice again?

Corbin said cautiously, “Kids, I heard from your mother that your biological father is Jonathan. Is that true?”

Aileen opened her mouth to answer, but Nana, who was vigilant, stopped her with the look in her eyes.

To keep Corbin from suspecting anything, Nana stood in front of Adrian and Aileen and asked, “Why are you asking that? That involves Eliana’s private affairs. You’re not on the clock right now. Maybe you should stop being Maurice’s lackey for a second.”

Corbin was surprised by Nana’s scolding and replied sadly, “Your words are too harsh. What do you mean by ‘I’m Maurice’s lackey’? I treat Eliana as my friend. The most reasonable answer to my question is that Mr. Moran is the twins’ father. If that’s true, then everyone will be satisfied with it.”

What Corbin said was indeed reasonable, but Nana didn’t care.

Eliana treasured her two children so much, and in her eyes, they were even more important than her own life. She would never allow Maurice to snatch her children away, and she would snuff out even the slightest chance of that happening.

Nana had personally seen that Eliana had almost sacrificed her life when she gave birth to Adrian and Aileen. After that, she went and did her best to raise them by herself.

No one could ever imagine the amount of love and effort Eliana had exerted for the twins.

Therefore, no matter what, Nana would be on Eliana’s side. She would protect Adrian and Aileen as much as their mother did.

“Anyway… Don’t ask questions like that anymore. Don’t interfere in whatever happens between Eliana and Maurice. Do you understand?”

After saying that, Nana turned her head and ignored Corbin.

Noticing Nana’s livid face, Corbin felt confused and wondered why she snapped at him and got angry with him.

He touched his nose awkwardly.

Noticing that Nana was in a bad mood, Adrian asked, “What are we going to do now, Nana?”

Nana came back to her senses and looked at the twins’ expectant eyes. She suppressed all the messy emotions in her mind and said firmly, “Let’s go. I will show you around the luxurious manor today.”

“Yeah!”

The twins raised their hands and cheered at the same time.

Without waiting for Corbin’s response, Nana held the twins’ hands and started walking out.

“Hey! Wait for me!”

Nana was just talking to Corbin in a friendly way. Why did she seem annoyed with him now?

Corbin couldn’t read what was on her mind.

He had no choice but to follow her.

He was worried that something bad would happen if he let Nana take care of the children by herself.

Chapter 379

Since the accident on the racetrack, Maurice had been worried about Eliana’s physical state.

Although Eliana managed to calm the horse down, it still had run around wildly, and it might have inflicted internal injuries on her. Considering this, Maurice elected to call a doctor over.

After a series of careful examination, the doctor told Eliana, “You’re doing okay, Miss Pierce, but you should get a good sleep tonight.”

Hearing the doctor’s diagnosis, Eliana breathed a sigh of relief.

“You should go back to your room and relax then,” Harriet said with concern in her eyes. “It was all my uncle’s fault. I would like to apologize to you on his behalf.”

Harriet’s words grossed Eliana out. Eliana really found it difficult to appreciate the concern from Harriet.

She felt that every word that came out of her mouth masked an ulterior motive.

“What a pity. Mr. Moran has prepared a fancy dinner tonight. You’re going to have to miss it.”

Hearing the words “fancy dinner”, Eliana raised her head, her eyes lighting up in an instant.

After what happened in the racetrack, Eliana was hungry. She started, “Uh… Can you ask the waiter to send some food to my room?”

Amused by Eliana’s request, Maurice couldn’t help chuckling.

“You’ve just been through an accident, and all you can think about is food? It seems you are really fine.”

Hearing Maurice’s chortle, Eliana rolled her eyes and replied, “Well, I’m starving, and I need to eat. I didn’t ask you to bring me the food yourself.”

However, it occurred to her that he paid for the food. After all, the Moran Group owned the Moon Lake Manor.

Maurice smiled dotingly and replied, “Well, I didn’t say that you couldn’t eat either.”

The two of them chatted as if no one else was around, which pissed Harriet off. She cleared her throat loudly and interrupted them, “In that case, I’ll ask someone to send some food to your room. Is that okay?”

“That will be great. Thank you.”

Eliana was satisfied now.

Night soon fell, and as the owner of the manor, Maurice held a banquet at the restaurant to which he invited Kelvin and Harriet. Corbin was serving them some wine.

“Thank you, Mr. Jenkins. Will you please remove the salmon?”

Although Kelvin spoke in a polite tone, he still treated Corbin as if he was a servant.

In order not to ruin the cooperation between the Stone family and the Moran family, Corbin decided to keep quiet, grit his teeth, and control his temper while Kelvin bossed him around.

Maurice sipped his red wine slowly. He seemed calm, but there was a hint of anger in his eyes.

Noticing that he was getting angrier and angrier, Harriet became nervous.

She leaned in and reminded Kelvin in a low voice. “Uncle Kelvin, Mr. Jenkins is Mr. Moran’s assistant. You should be nicer to him.”

“Nicer to him? He’s merely an assistant. What does it matter? Will Maurice fall out with me because of him?” Kelvin didn’t care.

There was nothing Harriet could do now. She began getting more and more anxious.

Just then, an unexpected person appeared and interrupted their dinner.

“Mr. Moran. You’re here.”

Rosamond walked over with her assistant.

Maurice raised his head and looked at Rosamond in surprise. He bowed slightly and greeted her, “Hello, Miss Deleon. Would you like to join us for dinner?”

As soon as Corbin saw Rosamond, he trembled and almost dropped the plate in his hand.

Of course, Rosamond also noticed him. She remembered him, the man who dared to argue with her for Nana.

“Mr. Moran, your assistant looks quite familiar.”

Noticing that Rosamond was staring at him, Corbin began popping out little beads of cold sweat. He was tempted to glance at Rosamond, but he fought the urge and kept his head down.

In the morning, he didn’t feel scared when he confronted her. Seeing her now, he was terrified out of his mind.

If Rosamond told Maurice what he had done, the consequences may be catastrophic.

He couldn’t help shaking.

“Really? Have you met my assistant before, Miss Deleon?” Maurice asked in confusion while looking at Rosamond.

Corbin held his breath.

Rosamond paused on purpose and beamed, “Yes, and I do think that he’s doing a good job.”

Hearing her answer, Corbin felt relieved.

Chapter 380

As Kelvin heard Rosamond’s praise for Corbin, his mind went to dark places.

Rosamond had been focusing on her career since she got divorced. She hadn’t been with any man since her marriage failed, and Kelvin had never heard of any rumor about any changes in her relationship status.

But why was she commending Maurice’s assistant now?

Did she have feelings for Corbin?

Kelvin thought he had seen through something and chose to “do Rosamond a favor”.

“Mr. Moran, since Miss Deleon likes your assistant so much, maybe you should give him to her as a gift.”

As soon as Kelvin’s words came out, the faces of everyone present suddenly changed.

Maurice’s face darkened while Corbin’s face turned livid. Maurice slowly put down his knife. Harriet, on the other hand, prayed for the floor to split open so that she could hurl herself into the crack.

Rosamond was furious. She had been in the business world for many years and had met a lot of people. She thought that no matter what happened, she could remain calm.

But right now, she felt sick at Kelvin’s words, and she refused to take them sitting down.

Rosamond didn’t tolerate anyone who insulted her.

Without saying a word, she picked up one of the glasses of red wine on the table and splashed its contents on Kelvin and Harriet.

Kelvin’s clothes were instantly drenched in red wine. He was stunned for a moment and then flew into a rage.

“Rosamond Deleon, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“I was just trying to make this place a bit cleaner by washing away disgusting things. What’s wrong with that?” Rosamond sneered with disdain and harshness in her eyes.

“You…”

Upon hearing her calling him a “disgusting thing”, Kelvin’s face turned bright red with fury.

Rosamond was a powerful and domineering woman.

After weighing the pros and cons, Kelvin chose to back down, but he still couldn’t calm himself.

“Mr. Moran, my niece and I are here as your guests. Aren’t you going to do something about this?”

He wanted Maurice to avenge him.

However, Maurice didn’t seem to care at all. He picked up a napkin and wiped his mouth.

“Well, this was a bummer. I’m going to call it a night. Excuse me, Miss Deleon.”

Maurice stood up and left.

Seeing that Corbin was still standing there, Maurice snapped, “Haven’t you had enough fun here? Are you going to stay?”

“No, sir.” As if waking up from a dream, Corbin immediately snapped back to his senses and followed Maurice.

The moment they were out of the restaurant, Maurice suddenly stopped and said to Corbin, “You can leave now. Get some rest.”

“Okay. Thank you, sir.” Then, Corbin turned to leave.

But Maurice suddenly grabbed his shoulder and looked at him with seriousness. “You are my assistant. You are not a servant to anyone. Do you understand?”

“Sir… Are you trying to protect me?”

All of a sudden, Corbin felt a little moved. Although Maurice had always been tough on him, he was still a nice boss.

Maurice got goose bumps when he saw the moved look on Corbin’s face. He immediately withdrew his hand and muttered, “Try and use your brain to think next time when something like that happens, will you?”

Sure enough… Maurice’s sharp tongue was still there after all.

Hearing his words, Corbin was much less moved.

Suddenly, someone anxiously cried from behind them. It was Harriet.

“Mr. Moran, wait!”

Panting, she rushed over with red wine stains on her clothes.

Trying to catch her breath, she explained, “Mr. Moran, I’m really sorry about tonight. That’s how my uncle is. And no matter what, he’s an elder…”

“I’m going to stop you right there,” Maurice interrupted her. “That’s how your uncle is? Well, this is how I am. I don’t suffer people who disrespect others.”

After saying that, Maurice turned around and left without looking back.

Damn it!

Harriet was agitated. She said the wrong words again!

“Mr. Moran!”

This time, no matter how loudly she shouted after him, Maurice didn’t stop. He just kept walking and walking.
