Chapter 96 The Children's Father

Maurice seemed to be indifferent.

Soon, the elevator door closed, making him disappear from Eliana's sight.

Seeing that, Eliana felt a pang of regret in her heart.She realized that she should have checked what was going on before she said such things to him.

Maurice had gotten her such a good opportunity, but she had misunderstood him.

Meanwhile, at the kindergarten school.

Nana handed over Adrian and Aileen to their teacher and said, "Be good, and listen to your teachers, okay?"

"Don't worry, Nana! We will be good to the teachers!" Aileen said with a cute smile, amusing the teacher.

And the dog was biting the tire, grinding its teeth outside the car.

Seeing the naughty dog, Nana was speechless.

Since Aileen had been reluctant to let her go, she had been really busy coaxing her and had forgotten to close the door tightly.

"Bowling, come here," she called the dog softly, approaching it slowly.

When the dog saw her, it barked, and ran in the opposite direction.

‘Damn it! I can't lose it! “

Thinking that, she anxiously tried to catch up with it.

But the dog ran around, looking at her from time to time, as though it was teasing her.

All of a sudden, the dog bumped into a man's leg and fell down.

Looking at it, Nana hurried to apologize, "I'm sorry...It's you!"

The man turned around before she finished her words.It was Corbin.

He bumped into Nana after dropping Silas off at the kindergarten.

‘What bad luck!’ Corbin cursed in his mind while smiling at her politely.

"What a coincidence."

Ignoring him, Nana bent down to pick up the dog.

"It's already hard for you to take care of two kids all by yourself.Doesn't their father help you at all?"

Upon hearing that, Nana paused.

Did he really think that she was Adrian and Aileen's mom? Why was he pretending like he knew her? And how could he ask her about their father so bluntly? Although Nana was a little annoyed, she

replied calmly, "I have been taking care of them by myself ever since they were born.They don't need a father!"

After all, she knew how much Eliana had been through in the past few years to take care of them.That was one of the main reasons she hoped that Eliana could find true love someday.

Then Nana fell silent.

Seeing that, Corbin suddenly felt sorry for her.She had to be Jonathan's lover in the dark, and had to take care of the kids all alone.

He quickly turned on the video recorder in the camera and asked, "You are Nana Marlin, the star, right? Were you just dropping off your illegitimate kids at school? Who is their father?"

Furious to see the camera still running, Nana pounced forward to grab the camera from him.But he somehow managed to push her to the ground.

"You're just someone who's past her glorious days.How could you be so arrogant? If I hadn't been free, I would not have followed you at all!"

Nana fell to the ground, wincing from the scratches on her hands and legs.

The man paused for a moment before turning the camera towards her again.

"Come on, look at the camera.Let me take a few more photos of you."

The shutter kept clicking, and he seemed to be recording how embarrassed she looked at that moment.

But the next second, he stopped laughing and began to cry out.

His hand was twisted, and the camera was taken away from him by force.

Chapter 97 Nana's Past

“Who are you? What are you doing?" the paparazzi roared in anger.

Corbin turned off the camera in the middle of the shooting and calmly said, "I'm Miss Marlin's lawyer.You have broken the law."

The paparazzi retorted arrogantly, "What do you mean I broke the law? Don't talk nonsense."

Corbin slowly helped Nana up, but when he saw the bruises on her knees and arms, he pulled a long face and said, "Sir, not only was it illegal for you to take photos of her secretly, now I'm also going to press charges against you for assault.Come to the police station with me at once."

Corbin made it sound like he was telling the truth.

Nana breathed a sigh of relief.

Corbin put the camera in her hand, looking at her with concern and asked, "Did you get hurt badly?"

"It's not so bad.I'll be fine."

Nana gave him a perfunctory response as she was busy browsing through the photos in the camera.

The more she looked at them, the more she felt shrouded by anxiety.

The paparazzi must have been following her for several days as he had snapped photos of her in various places.

Nana clenched her fist as she recalled what the paparazzi had asked her earlier on.

It was by a miraculous stroke of luck that she found him today, or else the two babies, Aileen and Adrian, might have been implicated because of her.

Nana couldn't calm down until she had deleted all the photos.

Then she looked at Corbin beside her.

"Thank you...For today."

She stared at Corbin with a hint of surprise as she didn't expect him to be so helpful at such a critical moment.

After all, he was usually so annoying.

"You're welcome.The twins are adorable.You and your family must be very proud of them.They are too young and innocent to be brought into the public eye."

After a pause, Corbin added, "And what if our Silas got mixed up in all of this?"

Nana nodded and said, "You are right.As expected, if it has nothing to do with you, how can you help me?"

Corbin felt that he had been scolded, but there was no evidence.

When he saw the look of embarrassment on Nana's face, he couldn't help saying, "Why didn't you just find a good man instead of choosing to live such a hard life after you quit the entertainment circle?"

Nana asked warily, "Have you been digging up dirt about me?"

After all, it had already been a few years since she quit the entertainment circle.

How did this man know so much about her and what happened to her with Huey? Corbin didn't realize until now that he had accidentally hit a nerve in Nana.

Although he regretted saying what he had said, he started to gabble nonsense in a calm and composed manner, "I didn't have to do any digging at all.If the paparazzi can recognize you, so can I.I used to be your fan."

"I don't believe it."

Nana looked at him suspiciously and asked, "If you were my fan, why did you argue with me the first time we met? Didn't you recognize me then?"

Corbin's breathing stopped and his heart skipped a beat all of a sudden when she stood closer to him and her beautiful features caught his attention.

The woman was very smart and sharp-witted.

Unfortunately, nothing he could say to her right now would sound plausible because he had told the lie.

Suddenly, Corbin's face twitched as if he had thought of something important.

"Wasn't you trying to catch that dog?"

Nana's eyes widened at his words.

Damn it! She had completely forgotten about the puppy! She turned around and ran back without even looking at Corbin.

However, there was no sign of the puppy in front of the kindergarten.

"Oh my God! How could I have been so thoughtless?"

Nana held her head with both hands in despair and pulled her soft curly hair.

Corbin followed her and as he looked around, he asked, "Haven't you found it?"

His voice seemed to have triggered Nana because she erupted like a volcano almost immediately.

"This is all your fault! If you hadn't pestered me, I wouldn't have lost track of Bowling!"

Bowling was nowhere to be found! How was she going explain this to Eliana?' .

Chapter 98 What's Wrong With Bowling

Corbin couldn't help but feel guilty when he saw how devastated Nana was for losing Bowling.

In truth, he thought he was partly to blame.

The puppy must have run away when he was having a confrontation with Nana.

Needless to say, Nana was livid and annoyed at Corbin.

However, she knew that losing her temper wouldn't solve the problem.

"Let's split up and look for Bowling.Maybe we'll be able to find him quicker that way."

Taking a look at his watch, Corbin found that his time escorting Silas to kindergarten was long over, and he should be back at work by now.

However, he still nodded and said, "Okay."

Before long, they went in two different directions and started looking for the puppy.

Unfortunately, Nana and Corbin had searched every corner of the kindergarten, but the puppy was nowhere to be found.As time went by, Nana became more anxious and it seemed as though she was on the verge of tears.

Corbin's desperation led him to come up with a bad idea.

"I'll tell you what, we can find a puppy that looks exactly like Bowling.The kids won't know the difference! When we find Bowling, we will just replace the other puppy with it."

Nana wasn't convinced as she replied, "What's the use of buying a substitute dog? Bowling's belly has..."

 

All of a sudden, Nana stopped talking and she fell into a pensive mood.

"What's wrong with its belly?"

Confused, Corbin looked at Nana, who seemed to have made a slip of the tongue.Nana bit her lip hesitantly before she attempted to explain herself.

"Bowling accidentally swallowed something very important to my friend.So we must find that puppy as soon as possible."

As of late, dealing with Maurice and Preston had taken a toll on Eliana and now if she were to find that Bowling was nowhere to be found...

Nana didn't even want to think how Eliana would react.

Come hell or high water, Nana had to find the puppy before word of its disappearance was to reach Eliana.She looked at Corbin unhappily as she had no choice but to compromise with him and said, "All right.Let's go with your suggestion.Let's buy a dog that looks like Bowling for now."

Nana then lowered her eyes to the ground in a dispirited fashion.

This behavior was far from her usual self, as Corbin remembered her being nothing but lively, cheerful and joyful when they had first met.

Corbin felt a little sorry for her and he replied, "Don't worry.I'll help you find Bowling.We will find it.Don't give up."

After they reached an agreement, Nana and Corbin went to the nearest pet market to look for a white- furred puppy that closely resembled Bowling.

Before parting ways, Corbin said to Nana, "Leave me your phone number so I can call you if I find Bowling."

Nana complied, having no reason to refuse.

That evening, Nana went to pick up Adrian and Aileen after school was over.

When the twins got home, Aileen ran to the white-furred puppy excitedly.

"Bowling!"

However, as soon as she reached out her hand, the white-furred puppy ran away and hid in the bathroom.

"Eh?"

Aileen blinked her eyes in confusion and then pouted her lips.

"Bowling, why aren't you playing with me?"

Bowling would usually tag its tail and jump around her when it would see her.What could have happened...

"You might have frightened him."

Adrian patted his sister's little head and comforted her for a while before walking towards the bathroom.

Squatting down at the door of the bathroom, he took out a bag of Bowling’s favorite snack.

The white-furred puppy looked at him timidly, huddling in the corner of the bathroom.

Chapter 99 I'm In Love

As soon as Nana turned around stiffly, she saw the kids staring at her without even blinking.She did not have time to think about their appearance now, so she casually lied, "Well...Bowling was probably scared when I took it to the hospital.It should be fine after a few days."

Aileen believed it immediately.

Eliana turned around and saw that Nana was still on the phone.

Maurice ordered in a low voice.

"Understood, sir."

It seemed that Maurice loved Eliana so much that he even cared about her dog.He sensed that he would have to report everything about Eliana to him from now on.

With that, Corbin added in a hurry, "Mr.Moran, I found some clues about how Eliana was lured into the black market.Evelynn was the one who bribed the owner of the antique shop."

"I already guessed it."
