The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 141

Edwina’s POV…

Pardon me to say this, even if it might sound absurd, but Becca is really getting me confused. She had said initially from the non-english statement she made the other time that he was only pitying her.

I had thought Caleb had gone on a speech-making spree trying to tell her why they couldn’t date or at least f**k each other. But hearing now that he had made an attempt to k**s her sounded like a good deal to me.

Or is it not?

I cleared my throat, trying to wrap my head around it. “why are you angered? Shouldn’t you be glad he is coming around as expected?” I hoped my question didn’t sound stupid. Even if it did, she wasn’t quite paying attention.

“Caleb was only trying to ease his conscience, not because he felt that way.” Becca clarified.

I guess my cloudy head could finally understand what it was she was trying to say. I know why she was upset now, and I repeat again, Caleb is definitely an a*****e, and I might start losing my respect for him at this point.

“What the hell? Just when I thought it was all about to go fine.”

“This is all my fault.”

I shifted next to her, “this isn’t your fault. You had no control over your feelings, and that is fine.”

“I hate that I couldn’t hold it all back and still went ahead to make a fool of myself.”

I went mute as I watched her keep insulting herself. Maybe I had been like this at one time, or maybe I still am. All in all, I could relate to what she was saying. Rejection makes you feel less of yourself, especially if you are the type with low self-esteem. You beat yourself up and condemn your being, wishing you had never existed or said how you felt. These things are unavoidable when the one you want doesn’t want you back.

Maybe I got lucky with Xander insisting on getting married to me. My acquaintance with him had served as a distraction from the crazy thoughts I would have had over time. Things would have spiraled so much out of hand, especially if I had no one to talk about it to.

Edwino’s POV…

Pordon me to soy this, even if it might sound obsurd, but Becco is reolly getting me confused. She hod soid initiolly from the non-english stotement she mode the other time thot he wos only pitying her.

I hod thought Coleb hod gone on o speech-moking spree trying to tell her why they couldn’t dote or ot leost f**k eoch other. But heoring now thot he hod mode on ottempt to k**s her sounded like o good deol to me.

Or is it not?

I cleored my throot, trying to wrop my heod oround it. “why ore you ongered? Shouldn’t you be glod he is coming oround os expected?” I hoped my question didn’t sound stupid. Even if it did, she wosn’t quite poying ottention.

“Coleb wos only trying to eose his conscience, not becouse he felt thot woy.” Becco clorified.

I guess my cloudy heod could finolly understond whot it wos she wos trying to soy. I know why she wos upset now, ond I repeot ogoin, Coleb is definitely on osshole, ond I might stort losing my respect for him ot this point.

“Whot the hell? Just when I thought it wos oll obout to go fine.”

“This is oll my foult.”

I shifted next to her, “this isn’t your foult. You hod no control over your feelings, ond thot is fine.”

“I hote thot I couldn’t hold it oll bock ond still went oheod to moke o fool of myself.”

I went mute os I wotched her keep insulting herself. Moybe I hod been like this ot one time, or moybe I still om. All in oll, I could relote to whot she wos soying. Rejection mokes you feel less of yourself, especiolly if you ore the type with low self-esteem. You beot yourself up ond condemn your being, wishing you hod never existed or soid how you felt. These things ore unovoidoble when the one you wont doesn’t wont you bock.

Moybe I got lucky with Xonder insisting on getting morried to me. My ocquointonce with him hod served os o distroction from the crozy thoughts I would hove hod over time. Things would hove spiroled so much out of hond, especiolly if I hod no one to tolk obout it to.

I could feel Becca’s pain like it was mine. Wrapping my hands around her shoulder, I pulled her into my embrace, trying to comfort her.

“I know you might doubt this, Becca. But I want you to trust that I will always be here for you.”

She sniffed, hugging me back. “Thanks so much, Luna. I don’t know how I would have survived all of this without you.”

“I should thank you, too, for having my back always.”

We both stayed quiet, staring out into space.

“You know, maybe love isn’t exactly a true feeling. What if it’s just an illusion of what we think it should be?” Becca was the first to break the silence.

Like I said, wrapping my head around things, especially lately, sounds almost like a joke, and it’s not even funny. I kept quiet, trying to let her words sink in before I got to embarrass myself further.

Becca kept talking, “what if the true meaning of love is just being comfortable around each other and not exactly an unexplainable feeling? I never loved my husband when we got married. It had been an arranged and convenient marriage, we were perfect for each other, according to my parents, and there was no need to argue about it. He took really good care of me, money-wise and s*x-wise. I never did lack anything, and as time went on, I fell in love with him, and he became my priority. Likewise, the case of Caleb. Caleb became a comforter when I lost my husband, and he seemed like the only one I could run to and count on in times of trouble. Along the line, I began to feel safer with him. I had completely misunderstood the hand of friendship he had stretched at me…..”

She was guilt-tripping herself again, her case wasn’t different from mine, and I don’t think that is anything to be shameful about.

“How about this.” I said, “now listen, Becca, I am not trying to compare my pains with yours. I’m just trying to make you see reason. I had married Ben the same way you had married your husband, except I already really liked his looks and how he presented himself. But Ben treated me like extreme trash, coming back home when he wanted, f*****g me like I was his s*x slave, and then leaving me high and dry for days to come until he needed me again. I couldn’t leave the house because he ruled against it. I didn’t realize I had been confined to solitary until his exploits with my sister got exposed. We really can’t do much to the situation we find ourselves in, Becca.”

I almost tried to indulge in a clap for myself; I was becoming more of a motivational speaker. That’s just great. I should begin sessions soon, offering my services to whoever needs them. One look at her face and I could tell Becca was trying to feel sorry for me.

I raised a finger in her face. “No, no, you won’t do that. I’m not telling you all this to garner pity or a sorry from you. I’m only trying to say that we are both in this together and would scale through it together.” I assured her, meaning all of what I said.

She wiped her face slowly, “thanks, Luna.”

“Forever welcome. Can you please stop moping? I’m really craving some nice ice cream and junk. I would have loved to take Sonia with me, but we can’t let her out yet, considering the situation on the ground.” I tried to explain without being questioned.

“We could make desserts in the kitchen,” Becca told me.

I giggled, “I do know, but I don’t want a homemade one. Which means you are coming with me, and we will indulge in as much sugar as we want.” I said in excitement.

Her expression matched mine, and I could tell I had succeeded in getting her off her sour mood.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 142

Alexander’s POV…..

The early hours of the morning had taken a huge toll on me, and I could practically murder anyone who did as much as step on my feet. All the while, Caleb had been acting weird, but I didn’t push to ask since I already knew what was up with him.

I guess we all have something eating us up one way or the other, and I am trying as much not to let the situation of the pack betrayers get to me. The moment I got back into my office, I locked the door, got out of my wheelchair and began a punching spree on the poor couch placed in the centre. Not getting enough from it, I indulged in a rigorous number of pushups. I wanted to burn myself out and not get to think of anything. The intention was to remain blank for as long as I could.

It didn’t work, and I wanted to shift so badly; it was a tug of war between my wolf and I. There was no way I would get away without being noticed. I had to indulge in a whole bottle of vodka to numb my mind, and it felt better by the time I was done.

The thought of going home to Edwina played on my mind, but I knew that wasn’t what I needed. What I needed to do was work up a way to make the first attack on the sizzlers and bring an entire end to Ben’s egoistic move towards overthrowing me and taking over my pack.

“Shit.” I spat out in annoyance, leaning into my chair and twirling myself around, letting the drink seep into each one of my veins. I was sweating so much despite being under a fully-blasted AC. I should be cold, but all I felt was the extreme heat of annoyance. I wanted to yell so loud and probably break a few glass panes here and there.

But it sounded silly, I know. A burst of drunken laughter escaped my lips; it’s unheard of that a whole alpha would lose his mind and begin to break through things just for the sake of it.

Throwing my head to the back, I closed my eyes for a few seconds. Then I began to hear a distant consistent sound of a door being hammered. I didn’t pay much mind to it at first, but then again, the noise was far and continuous.

Squinting my eyes and trying to adjust to the effect of the light touching my face, I thought I must have slept for a while.

“Who the f**k is that!” I g*****d, still feeling a bit drunk. The noise was closer now, and I could tell it was my office door being knocked on.

Best believe that I’m so going to knock the living daylight out of the one who couldn’t tell that I had no interest in seeing anyone at the moment. For f***s sake, the door is locked. People around here lack manners.

Not forgetting to keep up my facade of being paralyzed, I got into the wheelchair and rolled the f*****g tires towards the door. I can’t honestly explain why I keep cussing out, but it’s not like it’s my fault, and I actually intend to.

Sometimes being an alpha, or should I say most times it’s almost suicidal. Maybe my parents shouldn’t have been so ambitious. Ok, that came out wrongly, I guess. I enjoy being an alpha. Just hate the stress and troubles that accompany it.

Getting to the door, I tried to act natural when I got the thought that I must have zoned out for long and probably Caleb got scared that something went wrong.

Unlocking the door, I opened it to find Caleb looking like a lost cause. His shirt button flew off and wasn’t in place. The bastard was just as drunk as I was; it’s no surprise he almost brought down the door.

Now, I need to question my guards for not moving such a nuisance from my doorway.

“Welcome to the club, buddy.” I hiccuped, inviting him in as I shut the door close.

Dumping himself onto a couch, he stared at me and then eyed, “How in the world did you not hear me knocking all day?”

I threw my hands down, looking at him squarely. “You haven’t been knocking all day, you drunkard. Just a few minutes, and why the hell did you keep banging on the door? Couldn’t you have thought that I was out?” I could feel myself slurring.

Caleb sat up with a scoff, “there is no way you could have left when no one saw you. You don’t have legs, remember?”

If I wasn’t so drunk, I would have sent him spiralling out of that seat for throwing a diss at me. “Shut the hell up!” He laughed, holding onto his belly.

“I should really have you sacked. How can the whole Beta of a pack be drunk when it’s not even noon yet?” I pointed out.

Stupid Caleb had an annoying smirk on his face, “I could say the same for you, dear alpha.”

“I really should consider sacking you.”

“Then write for two, cause the both of us obviously aren’t fit for these posts.”

With my eyes laced with sleep, I could tell Caleb wasn’t in his exact thinking state, and something entirely different was bothering him. “Tell me, buddy, what’s up with you?”

He didn’t say much at first, just stared blankly at the wall. “I made a fool of myself in front of Becca.”

I facepalmed, groaning, “I thought I made it clear for you to stay away from her until you are able to figure out all of this?”

“I tried…” He sounded like he would cry, “I did try, but I couldn’t get the thoughts of her off my head.”

“Are you listening to yourself?”

“Can’t really seem to hear myself.”

“Is that a joke?”

He chuckled, nodding, “did you find it funny?”

I chortled, “what the hell did you take?”

“A whole bottle of Brandy. You?”

“Thought to indulge in some vodka.” I hiccuped again.

He let out a horrible giggle, “guess we might as well swim in this pool of gin.”

I nodded, letting the alcohol do its thing, “you are right, my man, you are right.”

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 143

Authors POV…

John stood rigidly in the middle of the hotel room, wondering why Athena hadn’t arrived just yet. The mask he wore as a disguise made him feel uncomfortable, but he knew well that it was for the best. He couldn’t wait any longer and needed to get into action as soon as he could. The alpha might seem distracted now, but with Sonia still being alive, they would definitely find him, and he wouldn’t be able to live his life at a free pace any longer.

The thought had been to persevere a little longer and get some nice f***s out of Athena. But as much as John wanted to be ridden into oblivion, he still couldn’t keep his focus without doing what he felt was right. He had flopped the last time when he had believed someone else would carry out his intentions on his behalf. This time around, it would be completely different.

“Where the hell is that damn bitch!” He cursed under his breath.

It was still morning, but the anxiety he woke with made him entirely on edge.

Also, he hoped she didn’t back out at the last minute, just when his thoughts were about to drive him nuts, and then, the door clicked open. Despite promising himself not to sleep with Athena today, his d**k already stood at attention at the mere sight of her.

Athena wore a provocative dress that hugged all of her curves in the right places. The positioning of her boobs only made him want to snatch the dress from her body and get her naked, and that was what he did without warning.

Gasping at the effect of the unexpected pull from John, Athena giggled to herself. Glad that it had worked out just as she had thought it would. She didn’t want to appear in front of him like a regular girl. The need to feel like she was worth salivating for made her up her wardrobe. Since she had been given the whole day off to go to her mother as she had made them believe. Athena had worn her regular cloth, entered the road and branched to a boutique about a street away from the hotel. She’d gotten a makeover that lasted almost an hour.

Athena had been worried he would not allow her in due to her lateness. She didn’t expect the shopping and makeup to take so much time. But it was worth it, after all.

John buried his face in the middle of her boobs, smooching the life out of them. Athena could feel b***d rush to her v****a; she was dripping already. As if on cue, John had his hands pushing up her dress, teasing her clit with his long fingers. Athena m****d, digging her fingers into his shoulder.

In one swift move, John lifted her into the bed after tearing her pant off her. Another thing she took note of was getting extra panties knowing he wouldn’t hesitate to rip the one she wore off. Using one hand to squeeze her breast hard like his life depended on it, he dipped two of his finger into her making. Athena gripped the bedsheets, throwing her head to the back.

Without warning, John’s d**k found its way to the entrance of her p***y. Raising her legs onto his shoulder while positioning himself, he thrust into her really hard. Athena let out a painful scream as his d**k hit the walls of her belly.

Holding onto her legs tighter, John f****d her faster, not enabling her breathing space as usual. His energy was always on the rise whenever he f****d Athena. Her p***y dripped so sweetly that he would have loved to bury himself inside her.

Athena’s whole body shook rigorously as his thrust dipped stronger. Her hold on the bedsheets was thinning out as she bit hard on her lips. Just when she thought she might pass out, he orgasmed, letting go of her leg.

Coiling into her body, she rubbed at her belly. Despite being bruised, she could let on a smile because she knew how much that would fill her pocket when she left.

John slapped her butt, relaxing himself into the bed with his naked body. Athena stood up to get herself cleaned up. By the time she returned, John was fully clothed, and two bales of cash were sitting on the bed.

Her heart ran at an increased pace at the sight. Stretching out her hands to pick them, John moved a bale away from her reach.

Athena stared wide-eyed, uncertain of what to say.

John let out a dry chuckle, “if you want this….” He wiggled the money in her face. “….. You would need to do something for me. And I promise to double it up for you. All you need do is comply with my instructions.”

Athena’s eyes stayed glued to the cash, her mind running a quick calculation on what she could do with it. “Anything for you. What do you want me to do?” She asked, her tongue licking her dry lips.

Sitting up, John tried to find a way to present his intention to her without necessarily letting on his plan. He didn’t want to present himself as Sonia’s father either, to avoid having Athena run her mouth. They have only just f****d. He had no idea the kind of habits she had.

“I need to get into the packhouse. There is someone I need to talk to urgently.” He informed her.

Tilting her head, Athena sat at the edge of the bed. “Why and who exactly do you intend to see at the packhouse?”

John sucked in a breath. He decided it would be better to tell her half-truth and half-lie. “I hear you work for Sonia?”

“Yes.” She still sounds unsure.

Making a pitiful face, John moved inches closer to Athena. “You see, I’m her father’s younger brother, and I have been searching for Sonia and her sister for years but have been unable to reach them.”

Her expression eased up a bit, “that isn’t hard, the Luna is a very homely person. She would see you at the drop of a hat.”

John tried to resist the urge of smacking his head to prevent his mask from falling off. “We had a sort of fallout, and Edwina, most especially, doesn’t want to see me. But Sonia and I are quite closer. I want to make a surprise visit to her. It’s why I am in disguise. There are a lot of people aiming for my life. I just want to be able to see my beloved niece again.” He lied through his teeth. “All I need from you is a way in and how to get to her, and then I pay you for a job well done.”

Athena thought about it again. The man in front of her doesn’t appear to be bad. And it wouldn’t hurt to earn more money by helping out. Holding up a wide grin, she muttered.

“Tell me when you intend to visit.”

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 144

Alexander’s POV…..

I opened my eyes, feeling like there was a heavy weight on my shoulders. My head ached like a hammer was working a nail into it. I tried to check the watch on my wrist and almost thought I had gone blind; everything was a blur. Blinking twice, I got a clearer view. It was past five in the evening.

“What the f**k!” I exclaimed.

Alcohol high is entirely on a different level; my whole body was extremely weak, and I was also super hungry. Looking towards my side, Caleb looked dead with his hands outstretched on his sides and half his eyes open.

An idea came to mind as I smirked to myself, lifting myself off the wheelchair. Sometimes I get so comfortable in it that it feels like a part of me already. I twirled my neck feeling some strain on it due to my sleeping position.

Wheeling myself towards Caleb, I searched for anything I could use to tickle his sides or dip into his mouth. Nothing appeared in sight, and I had no choice but to return to my table and grab a pen. Before I could turn back, the bastard was fully awake, staring at me with a raised brow.

“You must really think I am a fool.” He spat

If I wasn’t so strong-hearted, I would have screamed at the way he stared at me. That Buffon almost made me jump out of my skin.

“Can you not act so creepy?” I yawned, feeling my throat dry.

I moved towards the fridge to grab a bottle of water. Being the considerate person I was, I took another one and threw it over to him. He caught hold of it, not missing a bit.

“I should thank you for this. But I am really too tired to show courtesy.” Caleb muttered, uncapping the bottle.

I laughed, “why was I expecting otherwise?”

“Damn! I’m so hungry.”

“Me too.” I admitted, “you should come with me to the packhouse and have some homely dinner.”

Caleb raised a brow, squinting his eyes. “Are you playing with me right now?”

Not wanting to end the rush of excitement I was feeling, I pretended not to understand what he meant. “I didn’t realize you are this ungrateful! A whole alpha as great as myself is inviting you over to my great abode to have dinner, and here you are turning my invite down?”

The look on his face was priceless; I could have sworn he tried hard to not cry.

“You really can’t be serious right now. Are you intentionally trying to mess with me?”

I shrugged nonchalantly, “you tell me.” I pulled his leg further.

“Stop this, Xander. You and I know I just had a fallout with Becca. I can’t deal with seeing her right now.”

“Oh, that!” I gloated.

He stared at me with a blank face, “you are one hell of an annoying person….” The sharp pain he felt in his head made him seeth. “Since you won’t be of help to me, I would just take my leave and go mop on my own.”

“I do have a wife and a nice bed to return to.” I bounced.

Caleb chuckled, “you are nothing to write home about. Thanks for reminding me of my pathetic situation.”

I stayed silent, observing him. He looked worn out, almost as if he would pass out also. We seem to be in the same boat, just different angles. As much as I do have a Luna to return home to, it doesn’t exactly seem like my woman. There has been no exact definition of our feelings for each other. Though, one thing was for sure; I find Edwina interesting and someone I would love to spend more time with. But at the same time, I am just as paranoid and uncertain as I can get, knowing how much betrayal I have had to endure.

Life is messy, and it never promised to be easy. One just has to live it in whichever way one finds convenient.

Watching my good friend again, I sincerely hope that he reclines deeply into himself to choose right. Judging by his reaction lately and not wanting to be too certain. I can say Caleb feels something strongly towards Becca but has no exact explanation for it yet.

“Take your time, Caleb.” I blurted out, surprised at my own outburst. “There is no rush to expressing how you really feel. It would hurt me if you end up being betrayed and your heart gets broken.”

I could hear him take a deep breath. Caleb looked towards me with a solemn expression on his face. “I really wish there was some other way to it. How did I really go from zero to hundred?”

“Life does so to you with no warning.”

“I don’t want to lose Becca.”

“Is it just me, or have you really not mentioned Ramona all day?”

Caleb scoffed, a frown enveloping his face. “She is about to lose it.”

He was talking in parables, and none of it was clear to me. “What do you mean?”

“Just when I was trying to figure out a plan on talking to Becca, she was more concerned about us getting married.”

I smirked in amusement, “sounds like a plan.”

He glared at me, “really now?”

“You can’t figure out women’s issues; you just have to be sure about your feelings.”

Caleb tapped his thighs, shaking his head. “Things alcohol does.” He said with a snort, “since when did you become a relationship coach?”

I grinned, “since you decided to make a fool of yourself.”

“It’s your aim to look so serious for me. I’m so not taking your advice.”

I nodded in agreement, “obviously, yours works better, and it’s why you will miss out on a sumptuous dinner prepared by Becca.”

He grumbled, “can you not keep going back to the topic?”

“The last time I checked, there is something referred to as freedom of expression.”

Laughing hard, Caleb sat up. “Let’s leave all that aside. I know you got drunk as a result of today’s happening. I didn’t get to think much about it, and I feel guilty. How are you feeling?”

I sighed, knowing what he was pointing at exactly. “Not so cool, but I don’t want to talk about it. So, all I want now is some good food, good f**k and a good night’s sleep, please..” I meant all I said, as it seemed like I could eat the whole room if it got filled with food.

“I should oblige you then,” Caleb smirked, standing up from his seat. He walked behind me, wheeling me out to get my pretty belly filled up. I’m so not getting drunk again.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 145

Edwina’s POV…

I yawned loudly as the effect of the day’s run around took its toll on me. I had so much ice cream. All I wanted at the moment was to eat to my fill. With the help of Becca, the kitchen chef made a table full of mouth-watering meals. I couldn’t wait to dig in, but at the same time, I was on a waiting spree.

Xander and I haven’t spoken all day, not because I didn’t actually remember to reach out to him. But I was trying to avoid being a bother or getting into his space. Not being sure about your relationship with your supposed husband only makes communication a bit weird. He had told me yesterday that he would be home today.

So many things have been going on with him as regards the pack, and I can hardly keep up. Mostly because he isn’t ready to share yet. I know my sister is part of the reason behind the stress Xander and the rest of the warriors are enduring, and it makes me feel a bit guilty.

My mind is in turmoil about what to do. I don’t know whether to put a call through to him and ask if he would be home for dinner or just wait and watch the food with my belly rotting away.

“Ahhhh.” I let out a not-so-appropriate g***n, causing the attention of the maids to be turned towards me.

“Just call him.” I didn’t know when Becca got to my side until I heard her whisper.

Looking up at her, I snorted. “Why should I?”

“It’s obvious you really want to.” She insisted

I scratched the back of my neck, “I don’t want to bother him. He might be in a pack council meeting.”

“You can only know if you call. I would return to my post now, Luna.” She did a bow that I could swear was her mocking me.

Chortling a bit, I picked up my phone and dialled his line. Xander picked on the first ring.

“All hail, dear Luna.” He cooed into the phone.

I moved the phone from my ear, trying to check the contact I had called again, and it definitely was him. “Are you okay?” I asked, worried that he had a concussion.

“Very fine, thanks.”

He sounded drunk to me, his words slurred a bit. Not wanting to waste time, I threw the question at him almost immediately.

“Are you coming home for dinner?”

I could hear him make a light chuckle, “I’m just a few houses away and mind you, I’m so hungry.”

Smiling to myself, I played with the edge of the table. “You should come soon then. This table is wailing under the weight of the foods it’s being subjected to.”

“Trust me to pop in, in a minute.” He replied, hanging up.

It felt relaxing knowing that I had called just in time. Leaning into the chair, I waited for him to return. And in less than five minutes, Xander was being wheeled into the dining room by Caleb.

Sighting Caleb, my heart palpitated on behalf of Becca. I hoped she wouldn’t get to see him and have to relive the happenings in the morning.

“Good evening Luna,” Caleb greeted with a bow.

My first intention was to grunt in response, but that would be very unnecessary. “hey, Caleb. How are you? You joining us for dinner?”

Before Caleb could object or accept, Xander had to chip in his damn thought. “Yes, he would. We both had a long day.”

They both shared a look that made me second-guess their presence. They definitely were up to something. Wheeling himself next to me, Xander rubbed his hand on my back, making me shiver in delight. Something was going down tonight. It made me excited.

“Wow!” Xander muttered, rubbing his palms together as his eyes stayed glued to the variety of food on the table. “Is it thanksgiving yet?”

“I am so hungry right now. I can finish half of it all.” Caleb chipped in, making me throw him a hideous glare.

“Can we eat now? I’m so hungry.” I mused, feeling my belly worms churn together in protest.

The dishes got served, and it was obvious the three of us were salivating at the beauty of the plate. I could understand why I was so famished, but Xander and Caleb were acting so weird I wondered what they had been up to.

“Becca should join us,” Xander mumbled amidst a chewing spree as he beckoned to a maid. “Go and get Becca. Tell her I asked for her to join us for dinner.”

The urge to protest against Xander’s insensitive attitude was really strong. However, I know better than to indulge in an argument with the Alpha. I tried hard to signal to him, but he appeared to be in some sort of bromance with Caleb. The both of them shared a silent joke; I could tell it was more like a plan between them. My heart went out to Becca, as this would be a super awkward moment for her.

My thoughts hadn’t settled yet when my side eye caught sight of a stunned Becca the moment she stepped into the room. I almost slapped the table in a bid to cuss out loudly.

“Hey, Becca!” Xander’s voice came out a little bit high-pitched.

Bowing her head a bit, Becca tried to keep her gaze everywhere except on Caleb. “Good evening, Alpha.”

“It’s been a moment since I last saw you.”

“Liar!” I muttered under my breath. He was only acting on behalf of his friend. I could tell through his facade.

“Come join us, Becca. This would seem like an appreciation dinner to you for taking care of the Luna and holding things down when I was away for some days. And to Caleb for being so amazing.” Xander continued.

I can definitely affirm now that Xander was drunk. There is no way in hell that rigid young man would ramble out so many words. I could tell because he hardly made jokes since what he was trying to do right now was all a joke.

Poor Becca couldn’t say otherwise and had to oblige to the Alpha. She sat like something had been stuck up in her a*****e. Just when I thought the show was about to be over, Carlos and Jason walked in. I almost hit my head on the table when I checkmated the look on Xander and Caleb’s faces. From the look of things, Xander is literally an adult’s nightmare. A boogie man.
