The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 151

Alexander’s POV…

This can’t be happening right now. To think that I was really trying to make them see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have a feeling Caleb has influenced the young men to be unresponsive.

“Can one of you say something please.” I eventually blurted when they weren’t saying anything.

Carlos was the first to speak, scratching the back of his head, “it’s a great idea, but don’t you think we are moving a bit too loose?”

I watched each of them closely as they tried to avoid my eyes. Maybe I was moving a bit too fast, but is it possible that none of them caught the vibe I was feeling in the process?

“So, what are you all mute for?” I asked.

“You know how rampant canine distemper can go, I feel like we should be more conscious before putting our men out after the sizzlers get through the lockdown.” Jason tried to explain.

“Aside from that, do you think two weeks is enough to conquer the whole of sizzlers pack? Considering that most of our warriors are still in training.” Caleb added.

I chewed on my lips, thinking about what they had said. “How far are the prisoners now with their training?”

“On my part, I would say good enough.” Responded Carlos.

Carlos’s response obviously didn’t sit well with Caleb, as he gave him a distasteful glance. “Are you listening to yourself? Do you think planning a counterattack is just about swinging swords like a novice?”

Licking his lips in reaction to Caleb, Carlos scoffed, deciding it was best to not let Caleb get to him. And I couldn’t be prouder; the both of them getting into a fistfight would result in me being forced out of my chair, and we definitely don’t want that yet.

“What are you all insinuating now?” I queried

Jason shrugged, “figure out a new way to approach things, just like the way we had the spies get caught.”

“I think the actual question you aren’t asking now is; what exactly is our aim in this said war or attack? If we are catching them unawares, then we should definitely have something visible in mind.” Did I remember to mention that Carlos is exceptionally brilliant?

“Hmmn, that’s the right question.” Caleb nodded in agreement.

The joy I felt knew no bounds, and I wanted to leap out of this chair, but whatever bromance that was about to ensue between the both of them really had nothing to do with me.

Seem like only Caleb and Carlos refused to notice what just transpired, as Jason shared a look with me.

“Come to think of it, I have no intention of razing down the sizzlers pack for the sake of the innocent lives involved.” I explained, “but don’t you think a negotiation and signing of a contract would really do?”

“A negotiation?” Carlos and Jason asked at the same time.

I grinned, “yes, we capture all of the pack council members, alpha bethel and Ben himself. We could subdue them and make them sign a legal document of never making an attempt to penetrate the night howler’s pack. And then we take Ben in and serve him the punishment he deserves.”

“Damn! You are too good, alpha.” Carlos commended.

Jason nodded, looking impressed. As usual, our motherfucking Caleb only had a grunt for us.

“If we are just making picks, then we would need special equipments to help conquer them.”Caleb said.

“There are days the sizzler pack organize a general meeting with the alpha and pack council in present. Ex beta Ben has been joining them for a while. Seems like a perfect time to strike.” Jason chipped in.

I was really impressed, “how did you know all of this?”

“There Is a lady friend of mine who works in the packhouse.” He replied.

“Lady friend, uhn.” Carlos teased his friend nudging him in the elbow.

Jason mouthed, “F**k off!”

“You both can go. I and beta Caleb would work something out and definitely get back to you.” I told them.

“Thanks alpha.” The two of them chorused in sync, chuckling as they left the office.

“You should really try to get a life and stop being so rigid.” I directed at Caleb, “when last did you get f****d? You look like you could really do with it.”

Caleb sighed, leaning further into the chair. “I am so f****d, Xander.”

“That’s a good thing.” I blurted out, biting my tongue in realization.

“Do you joke about everything?” He asked, looking pissed

“I really didn’t mean it like that. It just came out. Please give me the details of it all if you wouldn’t mind.”

Watching him shift uncomfortably in his chair, I could tell it was a hard pill for Caleb to swallow. He always appears to have his shit together, but a closer look at him tells a different story. Sometimes I wonder if my case had been different with Sonia and Edwina, would I have experienced this sort of problem too?

“I don’t think I really love Ramona.” He announced.

“Oh hell you don’t.” I hit the table in a bit too dramatic form.

“I’m being serious here, Xander.”

Caleb hardly calls me my name. It’s obvious he doesn’t need an alpha now but a friend.

“When did you realize this?”

“After some number of f***s, maybe I was only lusting over her and was never actually in love.”

“Truth be told, I never thought you were.”

“Was I that obvious?”

“It was more about your ego, Caleb and I think I’m just as guilty too of such thing. You couldn’t ignore the fact that she didn’t want you, but needed to gloat to her about it when you eventually became the beta.”

Caleb stayed quiet, placing his head on the table. “How the hell do I fix this?”

“By taking your time. Let time tell.” I advised, trying to follow my own philosophy. Hoping it actually works out as time plays out.

“I’m so f****d!” He lamented.

I nodded in agreement, “yes you are.”

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 152

Edwina’s POV…

I woke feeling rejuvenated; there is always something about s*x with Xander. It’s another way of easing off stress and exercising the whole length of you. I stretched with a wide smile playing on my lips.

His side of the bed was cold; he must have left a long time ago. It was nice to have him around at night after what seemed like a long time. Just as I stepped out of bed, a soft knock came from the other side of the door.

“You can come in,” I called out to whoever was at the door, knowing the door wouldn’t be locked since Xander had stepped out first.

“Good morning Luna.” Becca greeted with a huge grin on her face.

“Becca!” I called out like it had been ages we had seen. But In the real sense, it had been a long while since Becca came into the room to help me dress up. I was either up early, or Becca was having a down moment. It was nice to see everything falling into place.

“Is it safe to say I have missed being here every morning?” Becca looked around the room, taking a deep breath. “It seems like ages.”

“I could say the same, too,” I muttered. “What do you have planned for today?”

Becca shrugged, “nothing out of the ordinary unless you decide to visit your sister today.”

“Not bad then, which implies I could rest in for a while and read some books. But before then, come Becca.” I patted the space next to me.

She didn’t hesitate this time around, and it felt pleasing.

“What would you like to do today?” I asked her.

“Shift and run through the woods.” She responded

“Oh, that sounds exciting. Can I come with you then?”

You could tell Becca was taken aback by my request.

“Won’t you be scared?”

I shrugged, “just because I do not have a wolf does not mean I can’t stand to see another wolf. I have seen my father and sister shift into their wolf form a whole lot of times. And it’s beautiful, if you don’t mind, I would love to see yours too.”

Becca sprung out of the bed in excitement, “let’s head out then.”

“Err, I really need to get dressed.” I purred, giggling.

Dressing up hurriedly, we both moved out of the packhouse in excitement. Sharing an inside joke and trying to avoid being seen at the same time. The woods were so thick I almost thought it would all be bushes around. But I was more surprised when there were clear paths amongst long-standing trees.

Becca had packed up a new attire to wear since the one she had on would be ripped apart after shifting. Moving a bit farther away from me, I could sense the change in her posture. Almost as if she was summoning some sort of energy inside of her, I could hear her bones cracking and her body bending to each sound.

Within a minute, Becca had transformed into a big, what I would consider a fluffy brown wolf. She motioned her head for me to come close to her.

Trying to steady my nerves, I moved close. The sight of her had me guffawing, I caressed her fur, and she howled loudly into the early morning sky. Becca looked so beautiful in her werewolf form. Sonia’s own was just as beautiful; her wolf was a deep grey. She would never let me come close to her, almost like she thought I would jinx her with my lack of wolf.

Still nodding towards me, I took that as a need for her to race off. The joy of having a wolf is being able to burn out the hurtful feelings one might probably be experiencing at the moment. Heard it eases off the pain.

Most times, I wish I wasn’t so weak and owned a wolf. But only the moon goddess knew why she did that to me. Becca raced off into the woods, howling; I could hear some distant wolves howling along. It felt incredibly beautiful having others who are like-minded to you.

It wouldn’t have been bad if I didn’t appear as the sole person without a wolf. If anyone else had been like me, my life would probably not have been so miserable. But then, I had a whole lot to be thankful for. The moon goddess definitely has joyful plans for me. After what seemed like a long time of sitting, Becca appeared back from the woods, panting her way towards me.

She shifted right back in front of me. Lowering my gaze, I handed her clothes back to her. Checking the provision bag that I had carried with me just in case; it contained two bottled water and some snacks. I thought shifting and running through the woods was more like having a picnic.

Becca giggled like she could hear my thought, “thanks for the water.”

“Why did you smile then?” I asked

“The bag content made me laugh. I didn’t realize you packed all that.”

I pouted, “I had asked one of the maids to pack them up for me when you went to your room to get a change of cloth.”

“That’s so thoughtful of you, ” she cooed.

“Are you ready to tell me what’s on your mind now?” I inquired.

“How would you know I am thinking of anything?”

“Maybe because I’m your friend and I can tell exactly when you have a whole lot on your mind.”

She sat next to me, stretching out her pretty legs. It’s a sad myth that werewolf females have pretty long legs. Outstretching mine, too, it doesn’t appear to be good-looking like Becca’s. I tried to draw my attention back to her when she started talking.

“As angry as I thought i was yesterday, seeing Caleb not eating made me feel a bit guilty. Maybe I acted too cold towards him.”

“You do know what got him reeled right?” I teased, bending my head.

Becca blushed profusely, looking away from me, “stop it Luna. Probably he was just upset over something.”

“I can bet it with you it’s because of Carlos.”

“Caleb isn’t interested in me that way and neither is Carlos. Maybe you just need to chill out and stop reading those romance books.”

I giggled in response, “If I don’t read them, how then do I live in this fantasy world of mine?”

We both laughed as we dusted ourselves, heading back to the main house. Becca’s phone rang then; she picked it up and went silent.

“What’s wrong?”

Her eyes shone, “your sister just went into labour.”

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 153

Edwina’s POV…

The sounds I heard after Becca’s announcement sounded like a cathedral bell. The earth moved underneath me, and all that mattered was whether Sonia would be okay.

We practically ran the rest of the way to the guest quarters, hurrying to Sonia’s room. I found her seated on the couch, her legs outstretched on the table. Athena was by her side, blowing her some air with a large hand fan. It looked amusing, considering the fact that the air conditioner was on full blast.

“What the hell happened?” I asked, feeling my heart moving out of place.

Sonia gave me a swift glance before turning her head to the side. She obviously isn’t ready to respond to me. Instead, I turned my attention to Athena. My forehead was sweaty.

“Can someone say something! We practically ran miles to get here.”

Athena bowed her head a bit. “She had some contractions and was screaming so loud. I got confused and didn’t know what to do.”

I looked towards Becca with a frustrated glance; I slumped into the available couch, almost stomping my feet.

“Sonia!” I whined.

Becca chuckled, “it’s not her fault, Luna. Carrying a cub is draining. She can only withhold the pain because she is a werewolf.”

Sonia finally turned her head to me, “I couldn’t bear it. I almost thought she was coming.”

I smiled, “what makes you think it’s a she?”

“I can feel it.” She responded weakly, trying to force a smile.

“Becca,” I called out to her.

Becca moved closer to me, “Yes, Luna?”

“What do you think we should do?”

“You might need to call the theta to keep a close eye on her. Considering the situation on ground, she would have a home birth.” Becca explained.

“Please call the infirmary.” I motioned to her. Becca excused herself, “you can leave us, Athena.”

The young girl released a breath that she must have been holding up for a while. The way she moved swiftly out of the room, it was obvious she had been wishing to leave for a long time.

I stood up and walked towards my sister, helping her up. She had her arms around my shoulder, and we moved like snails toward the bed, even though it was only a few feet away. Sonia weighed some tons that could actually make me lapse into a coma. It shouldn’t be funny, but I couldn’t help the chuckle.

Getting into the bed with her, I moved the duvet up her belly, pulling her into my embrace. I rested my chin on her pile of hair, stroking her arm.

Sonia leaned into me, holding me close to herself. It felt so good being this close. All my life, I had never had to be near the same breath as my sister. I sighed in content as I could feel her falling asleep in my arms.

“Love you so much,” I whispered.

“Love you too.” She drawled out sleepily.

My heart soared as I felt tears well up in my eyes. I couldn’t wait for her baby to arrive, so we could all spend premium time together as a family.

Becca returned to the room, smiling lovingly at the both of us. “She has fallen asleep.”

“I noticed,” I responded with a smile, patting her arm lightly.

“Should I come to help you tuck her in properly?” Becca offered.

I nodded, feeling Sonia’s weight telling on me already. Becca moved close to me, holding up Sonia’s arm to help me get off the bed.

“Wow! Didn’t realize pregnant women are this heavy.” I g*****d, trying to stretch out my still back.

Becca laughed as she tucked Sonia in nicely.

“When is the theta coming?”

I wasn’t done asking my question when a light knock came from the door, Becca went to get it, and it turned out to be the theta, and an iota walked in.

“Good day to you, Luna.” The both of them chorused.

“Thanks for coming. Can you check her for me, please? And why is she having so many contractions? Does she need to go in for surgery?” I bombarded them with questions.

The theta smiled lovingly at me. She looked like she would be in her fifties. The warmth that seeped through her eyes made me a bit calm.

“Don’t worry yourself, Luna. It’s a common thing with pregnant werewolves, especially when the due date is near.” She explained, moving towards Sonia.

I watched closely as she checked Sonia’s pulse and also her temperature. I bit hard on my nails, hoping she would be fine. I had never been pregnant before, but I knew a few things from the books I read. Contractions are super painful and, most times, very risky. About a major percentage of the women who experience constant contractions end up birthing through surgery. This isn’t particularly bad, and I wouldn’t mind if surgery were needed to save my sister and ease her pains.

The theta walked towards me, still holding up the smile. “She is fine, and everything seems normal. Being a part of the packhouse, she wouldn’t have to be at the infirmary. My iota here would stay with her all through the night just in case something comes up.” She motioned towards the timid lady behind her.

“Thank you very much, theta.” I cleared my throat awkwardly, “Can you help me with your name? I can’t seem to remember.”

“Theta Kayla.” She responded, laughing.

I laughed along softly, “thanks for showing up on time, theta Kayla.”

She bowed, heading towards the door. Becca and I walked with her. Exchanging pleasantries, I stared as she walked down the hallway. Heading back to the room, Sonia was still fast asleep. Watching her sleep so innocently made me speechless.

“What’s your name?” I inquired from the iota.

“Tricia.” She responded

I moved closer to her, holding up her hand. She looked scared at first.

I chuckled, “I don’t bite.” Gesturing towards Sonia, I turned my head back to Tricia. “Please take care of my sister to your best ability. I have no idea what it feels like to be pregnant or how to take care of one. Please do all you can to look after her and ask me for help when there is a need to.”

The look on Tricia’s face is that of discomfort. I don’t know why I am rambling myself, but I can’t seem to keep my heartbeat at a normal pace.

Nodding her head lightly, “I would do what I can, Luna Edwina.”

Her response made me more relaxed. Looking toward Becca, I sighed in exhaustion.

“Please, let’s return to the main house. I would come to check on her later.”

Not saying a word, Becca walked behind me. I was beyond fagged, and my bones needed a good rest.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 154

Author’s POV…

Athena hissed as she pushed her fingers further up in her p***y, it didn’t feel enough, but it could suffice. The stress she had been dragged into by her mistress when it was not even noon yet made all of her crave for some good f*****g.

Moaning into the wall, she gripped the shower faucet tightly, the thought of her breaking it not coming to mind. The water she had opened dripped down her back. Closing her eyes, she increased the pace of the finger thrust while rubbing at her clitoris with extreme speed. It made her jerk forward.

She looked towards the water closet, her phone lying back, held up against the tiled wall. Athena grinned with delight at the sight of John’s d**k. Thoughts of him holding up her waist and thrusting into her with full force and his fingers working their way up her clit. Athena jerked violently as relief washed through her, her o****m dripping down her fingers.

Collapsing against the wall, she slides down, sitting on the bare floor. Getting f****d by John was beginning to feel so pleasurable. She thought of him every night. The force of each thrust and his rough way of making her succumb to his needs. Unintentionally, she had become sort of addicted to him.

His smell drives her so crazy she can’t help it. Getting a hold of herself, Athena stood up straight under the shower to rinse herself clean. Turning the faucet off, she wrapped herself in a towel after drying her hands.

Picking up her phone, she walked towards the bed and sat on it, lying on her chest. Her eyes stayed glued to the screen as she slid her fingers on the zoomed picture of his d**k. Zooming in, she giggled at his face. When he had been using the mask, she had thought he was ugly or had some kind of scar.

Curiosity had made her sneak into one of his bathroom breaks while f*****g, and she had taken a quiet capture of him. If he hadn’t told her about some people coming at him, she would have thought John had an allergy to showing his face.

She kissed the screen with delight, letting out a deep sigh as her eyelids got heavy. Just when she was about to fall deep into sleep, her phone ringing brought her back to life. Her heart almost jumped out of her mouth when the caller turned out to be John.

“Hey, beautiful.” John’s voice boomed from the other end of the line, the use of the edge intentional to get Athena’s full attention to himself.

Athena let out a girlish giggle. This and so many reasons were why she would love to continue with their romp, especially the money involved.

“Hi.”

On the other end, John changed his seating position, feeling inconvenienced by resting on an arm. “How are you doing today?”

“Very fine, thank you. How about you?” Athena blushed hard, like the person talking to her was right in front of her.

There was a long pause as John tried to figure out a way to blurt out the intention behind the call. Not wanting to sound like he only needed her for the assignment given to her. Despite not saying much in their meetings, John had noticed Athena was a bit inquisitive. He could tell from how she tried to use tricky means to get his mask off him during heated s*x.

Athena pulled the phone from her ear, wondering if the line had gone off. But the seconds were still clearly reading.

“Are you there?” Her soft voice muttered into the receiver

A scratch-like sound came from the background; John cleared his throat a bit. “So sorry, just mesmerized by hearing from you. How is the packhouse?”

“Oh, don’t even get me started.” She rolled her eyes at an empty room.

Her words seemed to have caught John’s attention; he sat up straight, wanting to know if whatever she had to tell would be advantageous to him. “Tell me about it.”

Athena felt pleased, surprised at how interested he seemed to be in her day. She sat up, too, leaning against the bed frame.

“So, all of a sudden, my mistress, miss Sonia began acting weird just after I served her breakfast. Didn’t know it was mere contractions. I thought her water had broken. I was so distorted that I didn’t know what to do. But thankfully, she is fine now.”

The wheels in John’s head twirled around; he needed to get to Sonia as soon as he could before it got out of hand. Knowing how his daughter can be, she was only quiet in the meantime due to her pregnancy. He could bet she had something planned to do to him, and he wasn’t going to allow that. He would have to get rid of her before she ruined his reputation, which he had toiled hard for.

“That’s so sad.” John tried to act sad and pained as much as he could. “Please tell me she is completely fine?”

Athena gasped, covering her mouth when she reminded herself of how uncaring she sounded. It had almost skipped her mind that her mistress was John’s niece.

“You don’t have to worry about her. She is getting better now.”

“When do you intend to let me in to see her?” He asked, his voice sounding a bit impatient.

Athena thought for a moment, “I will try to fix a meeting for you both soon. But she is currently incapacitated. I doubt she would be in the right state of mind to receive a visitor like yourself.”

She didn’t mean to sound rude, but she knew Sonia wouldn’t be able to withstand seeing a relative from a long time ago in the state she was in. Most especially since John said they aren’t exactly in each other’s best books.

John bit on his tongue hard, trying to say something. “Don’t forget there is a huge reward for you. Just ensure to let me in.”

Athena smirked to herself and was about to give back a response when the landline for work by the bedstand rang. Sonia was in need of her.

Hurrying off the bed, she scrambled out of the towel, trying to get herself into her cloth. “I will get back to you, please. Talk to you later.”

She hung up and got dressed, leaving the room quickly as soon as she was done.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 155

Author’s POV…

Everything bothered and irked him at the same time. He couldn’t seem to concentrate on a single thing. The moment they had been dismissed by the alpha during the early morning meeting, Caleb had gotten to work with the thought of getting himself distracted from the worries of his heart.

But all that, too, was a waste of time and energy. He had almost had two of the ex-prisoners in training fight themselves to death.

Deciding to go wild a bit, he stepped out of the office, passing by a confused Ramona who wondered what was stuck up in his a*s after they had spent the night together.

Ramona watched his receding back, her thighs feeling some type of way at the sight of him. When she had sneaked into his house last night, she had thought he would be eager enough to f**k her all through the night, but that had only ended after a round of what she would refer to as a f**k that didn’t last a minute.

Her arousal filled up the air, she was in her heat period, and the urge to get f****d badly was all that roamed in her head. Also, Ramona thought it was about time that she and Caleb upped their game and brought a child into the equation. That would probably make him more focused on her.

Smirking to herself as a thought crossed her mind, she kept up with her work, hoping she would be able to revive Caleb from his sour mood.

Caleb drove out of the company, driving into the road like an escapee from the prison, trying all he could to not get caught. He had no idea what he was angry at exactly. All he knew was he needed to ease off the constriction in his chest, and that would require him shifting and running around.

It’s just a shame that the company wasn’t exactly located amongst werewolves alone. It would be unfair to scare the humans amongst them. That only added to his frustration further, parking the car on the side of the road. Caleb practically yelled out the whole of his lungs into the air.

Holding onto his head tightly, it felt like he would need to rip it off to feel a bit good. His anger only mounted, and his wolf panted along with him, eager to break free.

His phone rang out loudly, making him hiss in irritation. Checking the caller, it turned out to be Xander. Calming himself, he picked it up, hoping nothing had gone wrong. It was rare for Xander to put a call through to him like that.

“Hey, man,” Xander said from the other line.

“Hey.” Caleb almost didn’t recognize his own voice. It sounded different and coarse.

“You okay?”

“Yeah,” he lied through his teeth.

“Where are you? Thought we should ride to a place together. But I need you to pick me up.”

Igniting the car almost immediately, Caleb coughed lightly. “I am not in the company’s premises, but I am driving back down.”

“No qualms. Will be awaiting your return downstairs. You would see me right out.” Xander responded, hanging up.

Caleb wondered what got him so excited, and he hoped it wasn’t him imagining things. The admiration he had for Xander was out of this world. As much as Caleb tried to hold back and act tough, he was more emotional than Xander. No matter what pressure Xander was undergoing, he always found a way around it and did not make himself redundant.

It’s no surprise Xander is an alpha. His resilience and ability to hide his emotions is the reason he could lead a whole pack. Despite all the pitfalls he has encountered, Xander always finds a way to look on the bright side. To think that Xander had the guts to intend to love again. Caleb could tell from how he stared at Edwina and how his eyes shone at the mention of her name that he was smitten.

Thinking about his dear friend brought a smile to his face. Caleb felt grateful for Xander, who considered him worthy of being a friend and a right hand. However, he would rather cut off his tongue than admit that to Xander.

Driving towards the company entrance, Caleb noticed Xander had kept his promise of standing outside the company. Beside him was one of the guards who helped him into the car as soon as Caleb parked next to them.

“How do you sleep at night, making people carry you when you are clearly fine?” Caleb mused, looking directly at the road

“If I didn’t know better, I would think you actually are tired of driving me around.” Xander retorted, stretching his leg out.

Caleb looked at him through the rear window, “you should get sued.”

“Not like I would refuse. The only thing would be dragging you along with me for being an accomplice.”

Chuckling, Caleb snorted. “I wonder how your wife copes with you.”

Xander scoffed, “Wait till she meets this part of me.” Pausing for a moment. “Why exactly weren’t you in the office during working hours?”

“I could ask you the same.”

“Mine is an exception.”

Caleb sniffed, bending a curve. “Accept mine as an exception too. I’m your beta, which implies I can take your place if you aren’t around. And if it’s vice versa, you can take my place.”

“How about now that we both aren’t on seat?”

“The company and all of the night howler’s pack should be able to survive without us for a while day.” Xander hiccuped, batting his lashes which got Caleb a bit distracted from the road. “What the hell is going through that head of yours?”

“Some sort of bromance timeout with you,” Xander replied, smirking.

“Please don’t tell me what I think it is?” Caleb whined.

Grinning widely, Xander stared excitedly out the window. “It might be it, might not be. Please drive us down to the Rabid resort.”
