The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 91

Edwina’s POV…

I put a hand on my chest, feeling my heartbeat. It was beating extremely fast. I didn’t want to start acting like a maniac or be considered as one. When Becca asked if I was okay, I only nodded slightly, unsure of what to say.

She already thought my sister was crazy and wouldn’t hesitate to say I was experiencing a phase too. I would need to go back to Sonia and ask her for the exact truth and why she thinks dad wants to kill her, especially if he was considered dead.

“Can you please take me back to the prison yard?” I told the driver.

“As you please ma’am.” He replied, making a turn back to the road leading to the prison yard.

I have been thrown into a series of shocks in just a day. I didn’t know exactly how I was feeling. At this moment, I would do anything just to forget my sorrows and worry about them later. Thinking of that sent waves to my p***y. Even in this present situation, the thought of f*****g Xander felt comforting.

“Want to share?” Becca asked meekly, straining her back to catch my eyes.

I sighed, “don’t worry about me Becca, I will be fine.”

The car went silent throughout the ride, arriving at the prison yard soon after. I almost jumped out of the car but had to compose myself when I got reminded of my position in the pack. I walked hurriedly towards the cell Sonia was kept in.

As soon as she saw me, she sprouted from her sitting position so fast I almost thought when would fall back from dizziness.

“Did you find him?” Her eyes shot out.

I tried to maintain a calmness to be able to read through her without being biased. I could see a scared young woman fighting really hard to save herself for the sake of her child. My shoulders sagged as I slumped into the chair.

“Tell me the truth, Sonia. What exactly happened a few years back, during the time dad died?” I asked her, my eyes searching once again.

Sonia bowed her head, keeping mute for a few seconds. “He had faked his death to keep the secret of his assault from getting exposed. The idea of getting caught didn’t sit right with him.”

I could sense her hesitation, “tell me!” I ordered, losing every ounce of patience left in me.

Tears dropped from her eyes, “he had caught Ben and me together and was attempting to blackmail us. Ben threatened to expose him if he didn’t stay far away. Or he was going to have him killed for real. He left all these years, but he is back now. Please believe me, Edwina.”

I tried hard to process the information given to me, I knew our father wasn’t much of a good man, but I didn’t realize he was such an animal. After stooping so low to abusing his daughter, he still went ahead to blackmail her. I wish I wasn’t born into this sort of crazy family. It was in a total mess.

“When are you planning to take me away from here?” Sonia asked.

I sighed, rubbing at my forehead. “I haven’t really thought of it yet Sonia, and Xander has not been informed either. I would ensure you are kept safe. Trust me.” I assured her

I could visualize the wheels in her head spinning. A whole lot must be running through her mind. I just sincerely hope she wouldn’t do something crazy. She didn’t look too certain about what I said but nodded her head in response.

“Thank you sister.”

“See you soon,” I said half-heartedly, hoping that would be the case.

I headed out feeling burdened, and my head ached as a result of the day’s stress. I was beyond fagged and needed to rest my head.

“You look like you might pass out,” Becca said, giving me a pitying look. “Let’s get back to the pack house; I will make you some nice relaxing green tea. You have had a long day.”

“I will really love it if you keep that promise. I need something to distract my raging thoughts.

Different thoughts kept unsteady, and I felt indecisive. However, deep within me, I knew I had to ensure my sister was safe. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I eventually found out she had been telling the truth about our father being after her life. A log of wood was a great description of how stiff my body was when we returned home.

It was already late evening; I had a feeling Xander would have called. Only then did I remember to check my phone in my purse; as expected, I had several missed calls from him. Knowing him well, he would be pissed.

My thoughts were to have him f**k me till my bones can’t take the hit anymore, but judging by the situation, I doubt he would take the time to listen to me.

“You can save the green tea for later, Becca. I will just call it a night.” I told her.

“The alpha wouldn’t be happy to hear that. You haven’t had a good meal all day. Dinner should be ready by now, you should freshen up, and I will get it up to you both.” She replied.

Becca is unintentionally nice and attentive to other people’s feelings. I couldn’t resist her offer for the food. She was right; if I must feel better and be able to think straight, it would be nice to have a nice meal.

Raising my hands up in surrender, I gave a tight smile. “Whatever you say.”

She smiled in return, squeezing my hand softly before excusing herself. If only she knew how much that meant to me. I climbed onto the stairs with a dread feeling washing over me. I was in no right mood to engage in an argument with Xander. But there was no way I could spend the situation at hand until later.

Bracing myself, I inhaled deeply, placing my hand on the doorknob. As the door paved the way to the room, I found Xander sitting on the couch in the room, staring at me with a blank look on his face. No one needed to tell me that I was in for some deep shit.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 92

Alexander’s POV…

I plopped myself on the room couch, feeling exhausted. My men informed me Edwina had been going back and forth to the prison. To make matters worse, she didn’t pick up any of my calls. It got me on edge. Despite knowing she was in safe hands, it just pisses me off that she didn’t see it fit enough to put a call through to me.

It was obvious she prioritized her sister over her own husband. Curiosity nagged at my being as I kept trying to think of what had transpired during the day. Anxiety was never a good look for me. Caleb insisted I wait for her at home and not follow her like I had intended. He was right. If I ever wanted our relationship to work, I had to have a little bit of faith in her as a person.

I hadn’t had dinner yet. When I got offered, I couldn’t help eating alone, knowing my wife was on her way home. Instead, I had told them to send over the dinner of chicken and salad to our room. I don’t want to lose sight of her whenever she comes in.

About an hour after I had returned, Edwina opened the door to the room, exhaustion making her shoulder sag. She certainly wasn’t in a good place. Her eyes bobbed out in shock when she saw me. I sat regally, looking point blank. From her stance, I could figure that she worried I would be angry. I wasn’t exactly angry, just a bit curious, I would say.

“Come here.” I whispered, beckoning to her with two of my fingers. She heeded, locking the door and dropping her bag on the floor. She kept walking toward me.

“Take it all off,” I said.

Without hesitating, she got rid of the long dress she had on, leaving just the paired black lingerie she had on.

“Go naked.” I ordered.

Watching her pupils dilate as her gaze locked on mine turned me on. Beckoning to her, she increased her movement towards me.

Making a gesture with my eyes, she understood it and helped me out of my trousers. Sometimes it sucks to pretend; the way I felt was to have her against the wall to shatter her bones. But I had to keep up the pretence for the sake of vanity.

My d**k sprung free, rising in all of this glory. She smiled lovingly at it. I nodded my head in disagreement, pulling her up. I turned her back against me, making her bend slightly towards me. I stretched my hand forward, rubbing at her clit from behind and dipping my fingers into her. Edwina m****d in utmost pleasure; it made me harder.

“M**n for me, baby.” I cooed into her ear as she threw her head back, grinding hard on my fingers. Letting her have her fill, she begged breathlessly.

“F**k me please.”

I could sense her whole body giving out. Knowing I needed it just as much as she did, I gave in to her request. Pulling my finger out of her, the whole of her p***y seemed like an open tap. It made me super excited.

Holding her up, still maintaining her position, I directed her p***y to slowly take the whole of my d**k in. We both let out a gasp at the same time. She grinded me slowly, and I almost ran mad; the feeling made the whole of me shake. My wolf surfaced at every chance it got to take the whole of her. But I had control over it, and there was a limit to how far it could go.

“F**k!” I uttered as she rode me faster.

Her insides were hot, and my d**k vibrated at the reaction. I grabbed both of her boobs from behind, using them as a form of hold. I raised her up with them controlling her movement on my d**k.

Our m***s clashed against each other. I was overwhelmed with how juicy and pleasurable s*x with her was, almost reaching my peak with her increasing her pace. I shifted a bit down on the couch, raising her creamy p***y up a bit and ramming the whole of me into her. She let out noise more like a shriek. Holding her waist, I moved very fast f*****g her real good till I felt an explosion from the both of us. Edwina collapsed into me, her breath unsteady.

“That was just what I needed.” She muttered.

I let out a rough chuckle, “were you thinking of me all day?”

Standing up from me, she looked away shyly. “Maybe, just a tiny bit.”

I laughed out this time, “you really are a clown. Just admit how you feel.”

“Good, I guess.” She said, walking to the bathroom to clean up. In five minutes, she was back out in her nighties. “Should I help you clean up?” She asked.

I shook my head, “no need for that, just help me into the wheelchair. I would handle it from there.”

Heaving me into the chair, I tried to raise myself well to prevent her from feeling my weight. When I got to the bath, I stood on my feet, feeling the wave of the hurried s*x seep through my legs. My wolf huffed in pleasure. I had never seen it this excited, not even when I was with Sonia.

The thought of Sonia made me feel heavy. It reminded me that Edwina and I still had some scores to settle tonight.

Rolling myself back into the room, I found her chewing on a chicken wing with relish. I couldn’t resist the smile that formed. How could I ever get angry at her when all she does is look so cute in everything she indulges in.

I cleared my throat moving towards her. “Didn’t think to wait for me?”

She gulped down some chewed part, “I’m really sorry, I just couldn’t resist the aroma. I’m so hungry.” She said, tearing another part and chewing on it rapidly as it reached her mouth.

“Where were you all through the day?” I blurted, awaiting a truthful explanation.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 93

Edwina’s POV…

I didn’t know how else to thank Xander for making my bid without me necessarily asking. The s*x made my bones straighten up, and the quick bath I had made me feel refreshed altogether. When he went to clean himself up, my nose found the laid platter of chicken and salad. My stomach growled in excitement at the sight of it. Without thinking, I dipped my hand into it, eating with relish.

His throat clearing got my attention as he moved towards me. “Didn’t think to wait up for me?”

I gulped down hard on some chewed part, “I’m really sorry, I just couldn’t resist the aroma. I’m so hungry.” I said, tearing another part, chewing on it rapidly as it reached my mouth.

“Where were you all through the day?” He questioned, his expression morphing into something I couldn’t explain.

The chicken hung in my throat, and I almost spat it out on his face. The steamy moment we had made me temporarily forget the matter at hand.

“Oh, about that. I’m sorry I missed your call.” I began trying to wet the ground.

“That still doesn’t explain the reason behind your return home late and not returning any of my calls.” He repeated

Sighing in exhaustion, the chicken turned sour in my mouth as I dropped the piece back on the plate.

“I went to see Sonia.” I told him

“Thought she said she doesn’t want to see you.”

“She had called me on her own, saying it was urgent.”

“And what was it about?”

I was beginning to feel uncomfortable with the way he threw the question at me. I didn’t know if I had pissed him off or was just about to.

“Someone is after her life.” I blurted out

Xander raised his brow in disbelief, “and you fell for that? So, who in question is after her life in the most guarded prison in the whole of night howler’s pack?”

I panicked, not knowing if I should tell him about Ben’s men being among the prison guards. Thinking otherwise, I felt it would be better to sort Sonia’s case and then talk about Ben’s later. However, the last time I had kept such away from him, he had been furious. Maybe I will just tell my subconscious that it was none of our business. Our sole priority is to keep Sonia safe.

“Our father is on the loose.”

Xander’s eyes danced playfully as he let out a bout of chuckles morphing into laughter. “You both have really lost your damn minds, your father died years ago. What are you both trying to prove?”

His attitude towards the whole thing was beginning to get on my nerves.

“This isn’t funny, Alexander!” I called out his full name, and it shocked him. “It’s my sister we are talking about, and don’t forget she is carrying an innocent child. As an alpha, it wouldn’t be fair to turn a blind eye to the suffering of your pack member.”

Xander scoffed, “don’t preach to me how a leader is meant to act. Your sister is going bonkers. Now, if I might ask, you must have gone in search of your father then at the house. So tell me, did you get a hold of him?”

He clearly was having fun at my expense, “do you really have to be so petty?”

“No.” He responded, holding back a laugh

“Stop this, Xander. Someone almost poisoned her. Please hear her out. I’m begging.”

I couldn’t risk her life in the name of acting due to her past behaviour. What if a killer is lurking amongst us? What if it isn’t Sonia alone he is after? How do we handle that? This and more kept roaming free in my head.

I watched him stay quiet, not saying a word, the hunger that I felt a while ago had totally dissolved. Now, all I craved for was for my sister’s safety, and I didn’t mind having to swallow my ego and plead helplessly for his help.

“Please, alpha Xander, I need you to hear her out. She isn’t lying. I can feel her sincerity. Please don’t turn your back on her. I know I have asked too much of you, but please do this for me. I would do anything you want. Please save my sister.” I begged shamelessly

Xander g*****d, rubbing at his forehead. “Why would your father want her killed? That’s his own daughter, for f**k sake! Have you both lost your mind? And this man in question is dead. He was buried right under your nose.”

He was trying to argue with reasons, and I understood.

“She was molested according to Sonia and it’s very possible now that she has resorted to exposing him, he is back to exert his revenge on her.”

“You really are turning every wheel in favour of your sister.”

“You know I would go through any length to protect her.” I reminded him silently on the basis of which our marriage had occurred.

“What if this is only a means for her to get into the palace and commit more havoc?”

I tried to reason on his speculation, but I had gone too far to back out now. “I would bear every punishment that comes my way.” I told him, “all I’m asking for is a chance to keep her around till she births her child. She has only a few weeks till delivery, please.”

I folded my hands in front of him in a plea.

Xander inhaled, “I really do hope you do not regret this.” He said.

“I’m willing to take this risk for my sister. If truly there is someone intending to end her life then the least I can do is keep her safe. And if it’s just her mental health that is at play, I will still do all I can to protect her and her unborn baby.”

With a small smile, he whispered tauntingly, “As your ladyship pleases.”

For the first time since the day broke, I felt relief wash over me.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 94

Authors POV…

Caleb slumped into his chair, feeling like the world’s burden was carried by him. The day had been a tough one, and many more of this day would follow until they had been able to conquer the sizzlers. The training had gone well without a glitch; it made him feel good knowing they were making progress. He had returned to the office due to the distress call he had received from Xander. His mind was too preoccupied to actually hear him right. However, since he was returning to work, he thought he might as well call him back.

Dialing Xander’s line, he picked on the first ring. Caleb chuckled, “miss me that much?”

“Shouldn’t you be glad I do?” Xander’s voice boomed from the receiver.

“It’s obvious there is a limited time you can go without me. Whichever way, I will always be by your side, baby.”

There was a slight pause, “I should tell Edwina to be careful of you around me. I really like my Luna, not you.”

Caleb laughed lightly, picking up a pen from the table and tossing it. “So, tell me. Why did you call?”

“It’s kind of tacky. But let me ask, do you remember what killed Sonia and Edwina’s father?”

Thinking for a moment, “I can’t remember precisely. I recall we Omega’s got the news that he was found dead in the woods, unrecognizable as announced by Ben and his men.”

“Doesn’t that seem fishy?”

“I don’t see anything fishy in it. The man has been long buried, and the DNA from the remains did confirm it was him.”

“Then it’s safe to say Sonia has lost her mind.”

“What exactly is going on?” Caleb questioned.

“According to Edwina, Sonia claims their father is after her life because she exposed and tarnished his image during the trial,” Xander responded, sounding pained.

Trying to hold back a laugh, Caleb snickered. “I know this might sound like an insult to your ex-wife. But is there a need to visit a mental home?”

“She is only trying to get into Edwina’s head and get released from prison.”

“I guess she has every reason to do that.”

“Why?”

Caleb rolled his eyes, glad he couldn’t be seen. “Her baby, of course.”

“Oh, that! I almost forgot.”

“So, what’s the deal now?”

“Get to listen to her tomorrow, and you already know what it is. I have to let her stay with us.” Sighed Xander

“And how do you feel about that?”

“The truth?”

“Yeah.”

“I hate it; I hate that I have to feel some sort of pity for her. I feel angry that I can’t do justice to her and Ben for hurting me so much. I hate that my hands are tied.”

Caleb breathed into the phone. He knew exactly how Xander was feeling. It had taken a lot of battle within himself to be able to accommodate Sonia to that extent. And it’s all because of Edwina; Xander was obviously smitten by that woman.

“You and I know you don’t really have to do this. You can make an order, and everyone would abide by it, including your Luna.” Caleb advised

Xander sounded like he had a lot on his mind, “Edwina would never forgive me, and as much as it sounds absurd, what if Sonia was right? She would think I intentionally made her sister suffer.”

Rubbing at his forehead, “that’s true. Is there any way she might be right?”

“If Ben had been involved in his death announcement. Then maybe, something doesn’t sit right.”

“Should I look into it?”

“Not yet. Let’s have her move to the house first. There are more things at stake now; the sizzlers aren’t backing down yet, and we aren’t so equipped either.”

“Well said.”

“Have a good night’s rest. Seems like you need it better than I do.” Xander jested.

“Is it okay to say, get the hell off my phone?”

“It’s nice you asked, though. I might have your head by morning.”

Both men laughed heartily before saying their byes. Caleb threw his head to the back. It was really nice to have Xander loosen up. The betrayal he had been exposed to had messed him up a bit; thankfully, he was open to Edwina. He felt happy for his friend and alpha.

Letting the silence consume him, his heartbeat raced as the thought of a certain name struck him. He looked towards the door expecting it to burst open anytime soon, but he knew better than to expect that. The past week had passed by in a Frenzy, and he still wasn’t clear about so many things. The date he was supposed to have with Ramona had been postponed due to his busy schedule. She had begun acting a bit different since then; Caleb had gotten used to the intense romp they had been having for a while. However, it was obvious she needed his attention beyond that.

“I need to find some time.” He told himself. Picking up his phone, he texted Ramona.

Hey, hope your day went well? Just wanted to know if you’ll be available for the weekend.

Exiting the chat box, his eyes caught sight of Becca’s smiling face on his screensaver. They had taken the picture together on one of their day outs before he became the Beta. He misses her so much, the last time they were together had been kind of awkward, and he had no idea what was wrong with her. They hadn’t really talked since then, and he felt terrible for not checking on her.

He and Becca had come a long way since her husband’s death. He could rely on her to ease his burdens from her words of comfort. She was like his second home; he appreciated her presence in his life and would do everything he could to be there for her. Becca was the most considerate and thoughtful person he had ever met, which must be the reason why she didn’t bother to call to avoid any form of disturbance. He yearned to speak to her.

Rather than text her, he called instead, wanting to hear her voice. When she did pick up, he felt some kind of way when he heard her giggle loudly into the receiver.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 95

Authors POV…

The cool breeze hit her nerves, and the need to shift and run around the woods was imminent. But she felt lazy at the same time, the day had been long, and all she wanted was to take a stroll and clear her head. Working with royals made life uneasy for the mere workers, as their needs must be placed first before yours. But truth be told, the distraction was necessary.

If the Luna hadn’t been so preoccupied with her own problems, she would have been wallowing in the self-pity and depression she found herself in the past week.

Becca heaved as she walked towards the foot of the large rock tree that looked good enough to sit on. Everyone like to call it the protective tree as it overlooked the whole of the night howler’s pack. It is just some minutes away from the palace. Easing herself to the ground, she inhaled the familiar scent of a cold night, holding her leg up to her chest. The serenity calmed her nerves, and she felt more relaxed.

Tears formed in her eyes as she looked into the beautiful star-filled sky. Such a beautiful moment meant to be witnessed with one’s love. Her mind went out to Caleb. Ever since she made a fool of herself in front of him, she couldn’t bring herself to face him or put a call across to him. It seemed childish, but she needed to save face or give it time before talking to him again.

Becca thought staying away from him and avoiding him would do her a lot of good. But instead, her heart yearned for his presence even more; she had gotten accustomed to having him around her. His presence had grown on her. She missed him so much; the thought of him made her o****m every night. A surge of rage raced through her whenever she remembered he had slept with Ramona and had plans to go on a date with her.

“He would have spent his time with her.” She scoffed, “no wonder he didn’t remember to call or text me.”

“Who?” A voice questioned behind her.

Becca jolted in fear. She had thought it was just her and had gotten lost in her own world. Hearing an unfamiliar voice made her heart race.

Carlos watched the woman he had spent nearly thirty minutes admiring look like a scared cat. She looked so beautiful under the half moonlight and stars, with her beautiful eyes and short blonde hair. He would never have thought the caretaker of the pack would be out in this open space at the time of the night.

He had always watched and drooled over her from afar but never had the guts to go closer to her. It’s not like she was ever alone; she was either in the alpha and Luna’s company or that of Caleb.

Seeing that he had been staring too much and not saying a word, Carlos cleared his throat.

“I’m really sorry, didn’t mean to startle you.” He said

Calming her breath, Becca stared hard at him when she noticed he looked familiar. “Omega Carlos?”

“You know my name?” Carlos asked, surprised.

Becca laughed softly, “of course i do.”

“It’s amazing to know I have become the talk of the pack.” He joked.

She laughed out again, “that’s so funny of you.” Stretching out her hand, “I’m Becca, the caretaker.”

Carlos smirked, taking her hand, “I do know you; I guess everyone knows you.”

She waved him off, chuckling, “that’s a good joke.”

“I’m sorry again for scaring you. Was just wondering what a beautiful woman like yourself was doing under the moonlight throwing questions at the tree.”

She burst into a fit of laughter, getting cut short by the ring of her phone. Without looking at the caller, she picked up, mouthing an excuse me to Carlos as she giggled into the phone.

“What’s so funny?” Caleb asked on the other line.

The sound of his voice quickened the beat of her heart. Her smile faltered immediately, “hey.” She muttered.

“Hey to you too. What got you so happy?”

Looking back at Carlos, who acted like he wasn’t listening in on the conversation. Locking eyes with her as he turned around, he winked at her making her chuckle. “Omega Carlos here seems to be a comedian.” She said

Caleb unintentionally sat up in his chair, “how is it that you met up with Carlos?” Checking his wristwatch, “it’s late night.”

“I came out for some fresh air and I saw him.”

“Shouldn’t you be in? How long have you been out?”

“Say past thirty minutes.”

“You should return. The night isn’t so reassuring. Carlos can obviously take care of himself.”

“Right now?” Becca sounded like she was about to protest

“Yes, right now,” Caleb replied authoritatively.

“Fine.” She pouted

“Call me when you get back to your room.”

“As you wish, my Lord.” She taunted. Caleb chuckled, hanging the call. Becca turned to Carlos, “I will get back in now. Thanks for your time.”

“Shall I follow you back then?” He offered, “can’t be too certain of a pretty woman such as yourself safety unless she is guarded by a strong Omega like myself.” Carlos mused, flexing his muscles.

They both laughed out, heading towards the palace.

After the call, Caleb felt odd in an unexplainable way. He had never heard of Becca being outside the palace at such hour except with him. And what was she doing with Carlos? He questioned no one in particular. He had thought she would be a bit excited to hear his voice after what seemed like a long while. However, she sounded happy with Carlos in her presence. He needed to find out for sure what Carlos wanted with Becca. Since the death of Becca’s husband, she has only spent most of her free time with him. He didn’t feel it was right for somebody else to be getting in her space. Standing up from his chair, Caleb picked up his car keys as he stormed out of the office, determined to see Becca with his own eyes.
