The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 96

Authors POV…

Xander laughed so hard he had to clutch his sides to keep a hold of himself. Caleb stared point blank at him, not finding any of his reactions amusing. He had just explained to him what had transpired the night before as regards Becca.

In his confused state of mind, he had driven straight down to the pack house to ensure she had gotten back in, only to find her and Carlos at the main entrance talking like they were old-time friends. He didn’t know what it was, but it didn’t sit right with him seeing them together. Becca looked extremely relaxed; she was always that way around him since she was a shy person.

He had walked straight up to them and dismissed Carlos with the excuse that he needed to see Becca urgently. He then held her by the hand and led her to her room. When he was sure she was tucked in her bed, he left to go home.

“Why would you even do that?” Xander questioned, still hiccuping from the laugh.

“I just felt the urge to protect her.” Caleb defended.

“The last time I checked, Becca is a grown woman. She can clearly take care of herself.”

“Not when she is around someone like Carlos.”

That got Xander’s attention as he stopped laughing and held a look, “and what’s wrong with Carlos?”

Caleb g*****d, picking at his forehead. “Carlos is a f**k wolf, all he does is jump from one she wolf to another. He has slept with countless women in and outside the pack, he has a reputation of involving with every woman that comes his way.”

Still chuckling, “what’s wrong with Becca getting some of it? When it’s obviously been long.” He pushed.

The beta stared at his supposed knowledgeable alpha in shock, “please tell me you didn’t mean that.”

“Swear to the moon goddess, I did mean it.” Xander grinned.

“How can you say that? Becca deserves a man who would love her and protect her, not some horny wolf who has nothing to offer but a d**k.” He hissed.

“It’s better than all you are offering her, though. Becca is too beautiful not to have some good d**k in her life.”

“How did you get here again?”

“You should ask yourself.”

“You know, one thing I regret is telling you about this. You are so annoying.” Caleb growled.

“I must admit, you embarrassed yourself. Your actions aren’t justifiable cause they are totally baseless.” Xander roared into another fit of laughter.

“Come on!” Caleb murmured, sounding frustrated.

“I know you really care about her, but you do know she would need to move on eventually. She is too beautiful to be all by herself, and she isn’t too old to find love. Carlos might be different from what you think.”

“Speak for yourself. A leopard would never shed his skin.”

“Its a shame he is a werewolf.” Xander retorted, smirking widely.

“Can you quit with the sarcasm?”

He laughed again, “I just really can’t help it.”

“Remind me to never discuss things like this with you ever again.” Caleb looked mortified.

Relieving himself of the fits of laughter, Xander sat upright, clearing his throat.

“Want to tell me something?” Caleb asked, noticing his countenance.

“Nothing really, how is the training?”

Caleb shook his head, “that doesn’t seem like the answer you are meant to give me.”

“I really hate how you know me so well.” Xander mused.

Caleb shrugged, “can’t help it, you aren’t so easy to read, but I try. So tell me.”

Caleb knew Xander had something he wanted to say urgently. He was never one to call him to the office so early unless it was urgent. Rather than start with the discussion at hand when he entered, Xander had diverted to trying to figure out what Caleb had been up to the other night.

Since there were no jokes left, it was back to business; time to face the reality of the discussion.

“I don’t know what it is…” Xander began, “something just doesn’t sit right with Sonia being in the same space as me.”

“Is she coming here?” Asked Caleb.

Xander nodded, “Edwina wanted me to listen to her rants myself.”

“Is there any way to evade it?”

“I doubt it. The last time we had spoken was me rebuking her over trying to make her sister look like the bad egg. I am still not so comfortable around her.”

“You will just have to, for the sake of your sanity.”

“It annoys me that i really do not hate her.” Xander g*****d, gripping the pen he had in hand a bit too tight.

“Sometimes we can’t just help to do what we have to do most times. As much as she had offended the head of the pack, she still needs to be protected by you.”

“Sometimes I hate being an alpha.”

“Could have been a hunter; it would have suited you well.” Caleb supported.

“You bastard.” Xander laughed, throwing the pen he had in hand at him. He dodged skillfully. “I should send you off to somewhere far away.”

Caleb smiled, “you really don’t scare me with your threats.”

“Might make it more intense next time.” He grinned.

“Still won’t falter.”

“I’m beginning to rethink this beta position of yours, might as well put it to someone who listens to me.”

“Wouldn’t budge one bit.” Caleb kept on pulling his legs.

Xander pointed his finger at him when he noticed what he was doing, “I see you. I’m so not playing your game right now.”

They laughed at each other loudly.

A rapid knock came on the door, giving way to Ramona walking in with so much assurance towards both men. Xander watched as Caleb’s eyes followed her, trailing her backside. He could swear Caleb had a hard-on at the sight of her.

“Here are some documents I need you to sign on sir.” She said to him, giving Caleb a side glance.

Xander couldn’t help but notice the exchange between both of them. “I would get them back to you. You can go.” He told her.

Ramona swayed too slow and sexy; it was obvious she knew the effect her intentional move was having on his poor friend. Amusement lighted Xander’s face; it was apparent that Caleb was sold already.

“Being a nice fellow, I can give you both some space to f**k for about ten minutes.” Xander offered, grinning.

Caleb’s face flushed when he realized the room’s tension. He gulped hard, sitting up straight. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

“You must think I’m slow. You both have f****d, I can smell your s****l aura shamelessly.”

Shutting his eyes as he inhaled deeply, Caleb looked into his eyes. “Remind me again to stay farther away from you, starting today.”

“You….” Xander got cut short as the door opened, paving the way for Edwina, Sonia, and some guards. His face contorted into a painful frown.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 97

Alexander’s POV…

My whole b***d almost dried up as I saw a guard open the door, giving room for Edwina and Sonia to come in. Making jokes with Caleb had nearly made me forget why I had woken up in a sore mood this morning. I wasn’t in the mood to see anyone or have any crazy-like discussion. However, Edwina had reminded me again of the promise I made to her.

Sometimes I feel caged by her. I can’t help refusing her request. I observed Sonia as she walked in, with Edwina acting as her support. Her baby bump had grown bigger from the last time I saw her, and I must say, she looked so pale. One might fear she would pass out if not held up well.

I had no idea what I was thinking, just as they both bowed and sat on the couch available for visitors in the office. I nodded towards Caleb, who stood and helped wheel me, he took a seat, and I moved my wheel closer to k**s Edwina fully on the lips.

I know my petty mind was to show Sonia how much I had moved on. Or probably because Edwina looked so sexy in the yellow-fitted dress she had on, and I needed to calm my needy nerves.

Sonia looked unaffected, while Edwina wasn’t so pleased with my showoff.

“Good day alpha.” They both chorused.

I didn’t respond to that, still reeling in the pool of embarrassment I pushed myself into. Edwina was the first to break the silence.

“Alpha Xander…” She stated, I hated how formal she was acting with me. “I brought my sister to you, for her to give a detailed explanation on what she told me yesterday.” Her eyes were fixed on mine, pleading.

I grumbled, “ok, let’s have it.”

Sonia obviously didn’t like how rigid my reaction was towards her. I didn’t spare her a glance and had transfixed them on my beloved Luna instead.

Her hands were working up against each other, which showed that she was nervous. It amused me, though, the Sonia I knew was highly outspoken, and here she was acting pitiful. Her past actions still wouldn’t make me believe what she was about to say.

“I know you all might think I’m crazy, but my father is out to kill me.” She said, tears forming in her eyes.

I felt the urge to scoff, “why would your dead father want to kill you?” I questioned.

“He isn’t dead; he is alive. I promise.” She insisted.

“Why should we act on just mere words from you?” Caleb chipped in.

“Because I know he is after me to prevent me from tarnishing his year long image. But for the sake of my child, please help me.”

I stared back at Edwina. She looked confused and unsure of what she was doing to help her sister. She looked doubtful.

“What do you mean by tarnishing his image?” I asked again.

“He doesn’t want the truth of the assault I had endured over the years to be out in the open.” Sonia replied.

“If he is dead, how would he come to….” My words hooked in my throat when I caught the glare Edwina sent my way. That woman had a way of sending chills down one’s f*****g spine.

I sighed, “we would let you out of prison and stay at one of the quarters in the pack house. That should be safe enough.” I gave in, seeking approval from Caleb, who nodded in support.

Sonia gasped, falling to her knees. “Thank you so much for this; you have saved our lives.” She said, rubbing at her belly.

Edwina helped her up as they both hugged each other tightly. The scene looked really awkward. I had never seen or heard of the both of them getting so touchy with each other. Calling out to Becca, Edwina asked her to take her to one of the empty quarters and take good care of her.

After they both left, she sat back down. I knew she had a whole lot to say. Giving Caleb a sign, he left the office, leaving just the both of us.

“Thanks for your help.” She said, smiling broadly.

I gave her a once over, staring at her with a blank look. I still wasn’t pleased with the way she had reacted toward me. “It’s obvious you only used me for what you needed.”

She stared in confusion, “what do you mean by that?”

“Why did you go all cold on me a few minutes ago?”

Reckoning with the incidence, Edwina bowed her head shyly. “I just didn’t want it to seem like we are showing off or making jest of Sonia by playing all loved up in her presence.”

I looked away, still not convinced.

“Want me to show you how sorry I am?” She whispered in a low tone. I knew exactly what that tone meant.

I watched with a ray of spark in my eyes as she walked up to me, her breast popping a bit out in the dress. She locked eyes with me and bent down to my level. She unbuckled my pantsuit while caressing my d**k from the outside. Pulling the whole of me out, I was already hard as rock.

Without warning, she dipped the tip into her warm mouth, and I let out a shameless m**n. “f**k!” I g*****d.

Edwina flipped her tongue over my d**k cap, and I grabbed at her hair, dipping all of me into her mouth. With expertise, she coughed me out after soaking me in her drool. Then gently sucked me, bobbing her head over my d**k while caressing my balls in a way that drove me crazy.

I wanted to f**k her, but I knew we wouldn’t have enough room to do so. I m****d as she let her tongue roll over the entire length of me. She knew just how to drive a man nuts; the feeling was immeasurable. I threw my head back in submission, letting her give me the pleasure I felt like I deserved, till I released all of me into her pretty-looking exposed mouth.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 98

Authors POV…

John stomped the little grasses like a soldier ant on a mission, he had been expecting to hear from Jared, but it was obvious the rat had taken him for a fool and had no intent to give him a response to the assignment he had given.

After days of not picking up his calls, he eventually got to speak to him and arrange a meeting at their hidden spot.

Dressed in his usual black cloak, he sneered at the sight of Jared. Who stood tall, looking at him with no remorse.

“You didn’t tell me you have started working with compassion.” John threw at him

“What do you mean by that?” Jared acted oblivious, “I did your job and I am here to collect the rest of my money.”

“You must think I’m stupid! You brat!” John spat. “If you killed her, how then did she get out of jail alive, unscathed?”

Jared dared to act shocked, and John felt the urge to slap him into a coma. “Did you give the job to someone else, not trusting me?”

“Shut the hell up! I didn’t know if you defrauded me of my money by not doing the job or that Sonia was able to raise the bar; all I know is you didn’t kill her!”

“And how would you know that?” Jared taunted, acting like he had all the time in the world.

“I saw her leave the prison with her sister. It’s obvious you didn’t make any attempt on her life “

Jared shrugged, “I did try my best, she just looks to sweet and innocent to die by my hands.”

John opened and closed his fist consistently, “you know what? F**k the whole of you.” He told him, walking away.

As he left, John felt the urge to shift and attack Jared or even get rid of him. But he couldn’t, to avoid it being traced back to him.

His suspicions mounted when Edwina came down to the house to search for him to be on the safer side and know what was happening. John had kept a tab on the prison to know what was going on. To his utmost shock, he had seen both of his daughters pass by him in the car that they were in.

He had been so annoyed when he eventually knew that Jared had played him. However, his revenge dwindled with each passing moment, and there was no rush to have a blow at him anymore when he couldn’t reach him.

Now that Edwina was involved, it won’t take Sonia much time to start rerunning her mouth, which would have him exposed and punished severely. He felt uncertain about what he was to do or not.

Things wouldn’t have gotten so out of hand if Jared’s criminal mind hadn’t gone all soft. Sonia was supposed to be out of the picture now, and him living his life with no clause.

He had no idea how to get to her, and it bothered him. Resting in the comfort of his house sofa, he closed his eyes, trying to figure out a way out of the mess he was in.

*****

Sonia stared out the window from the guest house she had been put in, rubbing at her belly slowly. Her emotions were mixed as she stood there. Even though she felt odd, she was grateful for the protection she could secure for herself and her child. Not just free from her father but also from the watchful eyes of Ben’s watchdogs.

Her mind went back to the exchange between her ex-husband and sister. At first, she thought Xander had kissed Edwina to make her feel jealous. But then she could sense the exchange between them. And not to mention the s****l tension building up as they both stole glances at each other. Since she got pregnant, her smell sense had become stronger, and she could decipher odd auras.

It made her belly churn when Edwina refused to follow her, and Becca had returned to the office with Caleb. She knew they were digging out each other’s guts. Her despite for Edwina came off strong.

“Why does she always have the better part?” She wailed.

Her reaction got her a rebuke from her wolf. She wasn’t pleased with her attitude.

Her wolf was right; Edwina had done nothing wrong but to help her. It would be unfair to expect them both not to find some way to heal after the hurt they had both experienced.

Her neck jerked towards the door when a knock was heard, “who is it?” She asked

“Athena.” The person behind the door announced.

“Oh, Athena. Please come in.” Sonia responded. Becca had informed her that the maid who would be assigned to take care of her would be arriving shortly.

Athena opened the door meekly, dragging in a tray filled with healthy-looking food that made her mouth water. Memories of her days in the pack house came rushing back at her; days when everyone paid homage to her and she had access to whatever she wanted. All that was blown off because she couldn’t stay faithful to the one man who respected her.

Thinking of the past, Ben was never actually in love with her. She was a beauty to behold, and he was obsessed with wanting to be in control. He saw her as vulnerable and decided to take advantage of her. She had let her horniness get the better of her. Her cravings for more f**k moments that Xander couldn’t provide her with was all Ben had to offer her. She had become so attached to him she mistook it for love.

She took a seat and watched Athena place the food on the table. She hoped when her child gets born, she would be able to protect and tell him or her how scary and deceiving emotions can be.

“It’s a privilege to meet you ma’am.” Athena mused excitedly as she stood over the table.

Sonia looked up at her, confused, “oh sorry, I had been told the Luna had an extremely beautiful sister like herself. I must say they had been right.”

Sonia forced a chuckle, “you are new here?”

“Yes, I just started work about two months back.” Replied Athena.

“You should just do your job and stay out of gossip.” She stated before focusing her attention on the screen of the new phone Edwina had handed to her to keep her from being bored.

“Yes ma’am.” the young maid nodded, standing stiff.

Sonia chewed on the diced pineapple she had in front of her, not feeling sorry for her action. She might be handicapped at the moment, but she would never be buttered up by people lesser than her in position. Everyone needed to know their place.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 99

Ben’s POV…

My wolf purred proudly as I slid my softened d**k out of Malia’s slick p***y. Damn! Her p***y felt like paradise. The way it made me feel every time I f****d her and her intense response to every of my thrust always made me roar.

Since the day of the party, we had begun to spend more time around each other, and I was hardly doing anything. On the other hand, she uses pack duty as an excuse to get d**k-pumped.

I’m starting to think I have a knack for other people’s women. Malia’s mate is the head of the sizzlers pack warriors. She complained about not getting f****d enough when she came to me because he was always busy. Not like the information mattered to me, I was enjoying the creaminess of her p***y to care about whoever she was tied to. Not even alpha bethel can make me not cum all over her.

Collapsing into the bed, I heaved in bliss. It had been a long marathon, stretching my hand out to check my wristwatch by the bedstand. I wasn’t surprised to find out we had been f*****g for an hour plus. I know Sonia was crazy, but Malia’s stamina was unmatched.

“How was it?” She asked, looking up at me with her eyes dilating. I grinned at her; she was seeking my reassurance.

I guess my being did command respect at every chance. She would always ask if she did good enough or if I felt satisfied. Sometimes, I smile to myself, whining about her doing poorly and wondering what she would do then.

However, I felt a bit good today. Instead, I pulled her in, smacking her a*s loudly. She shivered. I could feel her pleasure seeping through her skin. Her s*x drive turns me on.

My d**k was beginning to get ready for another long hour of rigorous s*x when a knock was heard on the door. I raised my brow. I had clearly said I was busy and not to be disturbed.

“You expecting someone?” Malia asked, panic lacing her voice. She always came in disguise whenever she sneaked into my room. Keeping it discreet to prevent her said mate from finding out, despite moaning my name till her throat couldn’t take it anymore, she still was hung up on her said beloved.

I held my finger to my lips, “go change.” I told her. She scrambled around the room, picking up her clothes and hurrying to the bathroom to get dressed.

Just as I wore my jogger pants, the knock came again. It was beginning to get on my nerves. Can’t the person wait the hell up?

I hated how I had to tame my d**k from exposing itself in my pants from the moment before it got ruined by whoever it was at the door.

“This had better be worth it!” I muttered, If it turns out to be alpha bethel calling out to me for his numerous silly party invites. I won’t hesitate to have that cockroach head of his for dinner tonight and tear apart anyone who tries to counter me.

Fortunately for the whole of sizzlers pack, it wasn’t their alpha making a fool of himself. Standing at the door was one of the guards assigned to me. I only saw him whenever someone from the night howler’s pack came by to see me.

I moved out of the room, taking a few steps close to him with a stern look. “What’s the matter?”

He stared up at me, we both were of the same size, and I doubted if I looked that intimidating to him. Judging by the way he stared at me.

“One of your men is around to see you, says he has some news.”

He said. “Should I call him in?”

Turning away from him, I moved towards the study attached to the private chambers I had been gifted by alpha bethel. “Bring him in.” I responded.

My mind was racing with different thoughts, wondering what could be the reason for any of them to come around. To keep the spotlight away from us, we had been sending messages from unscripted phones.

I knew full well that the whole night howler’s pack was alert, looking for every chance to pounce on my men and me. They hardly came around, even though the numbers aren’t so impressive. I know these men will stay faithful to me till death do uṣ part.

Patrolling the room, I waited impatiently for whomever it was to walk into the room before I got too anxious and tore the walls apart.

“Good day my Lord!”

I turned to look towards the door where the voice came from. It turned out to be Jared; seeing him brought a bit of ease to me. I calmed myself down, grabbed a turning chair, and sat on it.

“Didn’t know it was you, Jared. What brings you here?” I didn’t have time for pleasantries.

He seemed a bit distorted to say whatever he had to say. “Out with it already,” I ordered.

“Sonia has been taken out of prison!” He announced.

I twisted and turned my head, trying to let the information sink in, “what do you mean by that?” I asked.

“Luna Edwina had her moved from the prison to the pack house.”

I slammed my balled fist into the arm of the chair. I can’t believe these bastards are trying to outsmart me by keeping my child far away from where I can easily reach them. I was waiting patiently, and if Sonia hadn’t acted too bitchy, she would have been under my watch with my child, safe with me. I was certain Xander intended to play a fast one on me.

“Why the hell did they do that?” I barked, making the poor man falter in his steps.

“Her life is being threatened.”

“By who?”

Jared gulped, “I told you of her father paying me to get rid of her.”

Realization dawned on me, “damn!!” It had totally skipped my mind. I was too engrossed in digging Malia’s p***y to remember the matter at hand.

John really had to be kidding me. I should have killed him the first time I had the chance to. That awful dog had the guts to ask for my child to be killed along with his. I was so going to crush him the moment I got my hands on him. To think he ruined his daughter’s life and still intends to end it with his own hands. I might be the world’s most despised man at the moment, but one thing I know for sure is I would be the world’s greatest dad. I can’t wait to have my child with me. However, the situation seems to keep getting more complicated.

“What should I do, my Lord?” Jared asked.

I thought for a moment, not being able to come up with a plan yet, “just keep me updated for now, she would be safe there and my child would be too. We can’t do anything until my child is safely born. You can go, would get back to you.”

Dismissing him, I got up, chewing hard on my lips. John will be dead meat if anything happens to my child. That’s a promise.

The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 100

Edwina’s POV…

I was feeling restless again since Sonia had been brought to the palace. I couldn’t find it in myself to check up on her. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see her or not; everything just seemed more complicated. I had tried to distract myself by heading to the library that had become my safe haven to keep my mind occupied.

The moment I opened up a book, it reminded me of Ben. The description of the hero was almost in tune with Ben’s identity. I felt some energy surge through my inner thighs at the mere thought of him.

Truth be told, he still had some hold on me without necessarily being around. I missed him. Shutting my eyes tightly, I tried to get the thoughts out of my head. Xander would have my head thrown into the depths of the sea if he ever caught me thinking of the man who had almost ruined his life.

The thought of his men lingering around the night howler’s pack lingered in my mind. It was my duty as the Luna to protect my people next to my husband. I couldn’t let sentiments rule where people’s lives were at stake. At the same time, I was just as confused and had no idea on what to do.

Xander seems burdened enough as it is; he comes home very late. The last time he let me in on what was going on, he had said the prisoners’ training was going really well. The other warriors were trying their best to fish out the imposters amongst them. I should be able to help without necessarily burdening him.

Dropping the book, I stepped out of the library. Walking towards the main door with calculated steps. Becca bumped into me carrying some freshly washed duvets.

“So sorry.” She mused, easing up the load she carried.

“Shouldn’t you get help for that?” I offered.

Adjusting the pile, she smiled. “It’s nothing. I can handle it just fine. Where are you headed in such a hurry?” She asked.

“I would like to check on my sister.”

“That’s so sudden. You have been a bit skeptical for days.” Becca noted.

Her consistent observance was something I needed to learn. I sighed, “there is something important I need to ask her. I guess I would need you to come with me.” I said after thinking for a second.

Not hesitating, she took a few strides towards the steps. “Give me a minute.” She said, increasing her pace.

Within a blink of an eye, she was back. I smiled at her as she led the way to the guest quarters, with every other person bowing as I passed them. At first, it had felt odd, but I had become accustomed to it and no longer taken aback.

As we got to the chambers assigned to Sonia, I almost bumped into another person for the second time in less than an hour.

“Excuse me, please,” I said, my eyes meeting the gaze of the person. She looked so young like she had just attained the age of twenty. Her eyes looked so pure, and it mesmerized me.

She gasped when she reckoned who I was, “I’m so sorry Luna, pardon my clumsiness.”

I chuckled, waving her off, “it’s fine, we both bumped into each other. You work here?” I queried.

“She is the maid assigned to your sister.” Becca responded on her behalf.

“Oh, I didn’t know that,” I said, nodding towards her to take her leave. She bowed hurriedly, scrambling her way through the hall. “How did she get to work here?” I asked, still amused that she got a chance to work at the pack house.

“Her mother fell ill and they needed to keep up with their expenses, she only just resumed few weeks ago.” Becca responded

“Who is her mother?”

“Dana.”

I gasped, “how am I just knowing this?”

“You had too many things on your plate, I didn’t think it wise to bother you.”

“Come on Becca.” I g*****d, “you still could have noted me, that way I would have sent her to the infirmary and ensure she is well taken care of.”

She bowed her head, “I’m sorry Luna, would take note of that next time.”

I rubbed at my forehead, not sure of what to say. I continued my walk towards Sonia’s room with Becca on my tail. Getting to the door, I inhaled and exhaled, trying to calm my breath. I didn’t realize I was shaky. Why does seeing her have to be always this hard?

Finally finding the courage, I knocked lightly on the door. There was absolute silence. I knocked again, but no response came. Knowing Sonia, she probably was in no mood to respond, so I pushed at the door, letting myself in.

“Is that how you act around here? Barging into people’s rooms without seeking the occupants’ consent?” Her voice rang from the balcony that faced the palace garden.

Didn’t realise you were having a you moment; I wanted to say but bit on my tongue instead. I have no intention of exchanging words with her.

“I’m sorry.” I said. “I had knocked but didn’t get any response.”

“Shouldn’t you have known I wasn’t in the mood to entertain anyone?” Sonia retorted.

Becca and I exchanged looks, each person keeping their thoughts to themselves. After a long moment of silence, she decided to grace us with some movement. Turning to look at us, I was amazed at her transformation. Sonia had always been a beautiful woman, but she glowed incredibly. Pregnancy had never looked better on anyone than it did on her. I felt relieved knowing that bringing her here wasn’t much of a bad idea.

“To what do I owe this noncommittal visit?” She glared

I winced at her unwelcoming attitude; she obviously had a beef against me. It had been a whole week, and I had not stepped into the quarters to visit her. I was taking my time; I knew it would fuel her anger if she got to know I actually needed a favor from her during my visit.

“Has the Luna suddenly lost her voice?” She jeered.

Taking a deep breath, I made myself comfortable on a settee placed in the middle of the room. “You might need to sit, please.” I muttered.
