Ch. 2111..2120
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2111-Before Taylor could say anything, Yvonne lost her courage and hung her head low. "Just forget it if I'm asking for too much."
"It's just a drive. Of course, it's not too much."
Caught between emotions, Taylor shuffled her hair. "I don't have much power, but I can decide on the little things. The Ferrari from Mr. Iverson could use a spin. It's good to put Mr. Iverson's gift to good use too."
Yvonne beamed, but the smile did not reach her eyes.
The red sports car drove toward Savrow's biggest antique and jewelry gallery. Yvonne and Christopher intended to pick a decent birthday gift for Christopher there.
A pair of gold-plated candle holders caught Yvonne's eye, and the seller praised her good taste.
She smiled and pulled her card out when Taylor went ahead and footed the 7-million-dollar bill.
"This is supposed to be my gift to Mr. Iverson…" Yvonne frowned anxiously.
"Don't be a stranger."
Taylor grinned and slipped his premium bank card back into his wallet. "I'm relieved that you have Mr. Iverson's best interest at heart. Don't worry about the money. I'd happily pay ten times that value. Besides, you could use the savings more than me."
Yvonne drove the red sports car, returning alongside Taylor to Pivotage.
Taylor's eyes were glued to Yvonne throughout the journey, so she did not try anything suspicious.
Despite her straight face, Yvonne gripped tightly to the steering wheel.
Tonight was her only and last chance.
If she did not do anything, Christopher would continue to imprison her and even make her disappear from Savrow once he was out of the hospital.
In the darkness, a drip of sweat rolled down her delicate face.
A white sedan was heading toward her in the oncoming lane.
Gritting her teeth, Yvonne desperately swerved to the side and stepped on the gas while Taylor was not looking.
"Watch out, Yvonne!"
Taylor, his eyes wide open, tried to take over the steering wheel in terror, but it was too late.
Bang!
The Ferrari and white sedan collided.
The sports car was destroyed, and the airbags were deployed. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt.
"Are you alright, Yvonne?" Breaking out in a cold sweat, Taylor checked on Yvonne worriedly.
"Ugh… I'm fine." Yvonne gasped for air, her face pale. Her vulnerable and weak moment tugged at Taylor's heartstrings. "Are you alright, Taylor? It's been a while since I drove. I'm sorry…"
"It's okay. All that matters is that you're safe."
"Go on and see if the people in the other car are alright. We have an accident to deal with." "Okay. Just hang in there. I'll take you to the hospital in a bit." Taylor swiftly got out of the car.
Putting up with the pain, Yvonne unbuckled herself and slipped out of the car while Taylor engaged with the owner of the white sedan. She got down on her knees and shakily fished for something under the car.
Following a pause, , she pulled a USB drive from the undercarriage. Feeling emotional, Yvonne teared up and clenched the drive in her grasp.
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2112-Days passed uneventfully.
Cece and another nurse would be present twice a day to deliver medication and administer shots.
Though Christopher would instruct the attending doctor to examine the drug every single time, the result remained the same.
The drugs were clean.
It was Christopher's birthday the next day.
The night before, Taylor went to the antique and jewelry gallery to pick up Yvonne's gift as a surprise for Christopher. The gift was perfect to ease the tension between Yvonne and Christopher.
Security was tight outside the ward.
Christopher only kept the bedside lamp on in the ward and read under the soft illumination.
Cece knocked on the door and entered the ward, her voice soft.
"It's time for your medication, Mr. Iverson."
"Sure."
Christopher seemned to be in high spirits, a subtle smile playing around his eyes behind his glasses.
Cece hid her aggression behind her ingratiating smile.
Christopher could fool anyone with his gentle face.
If it were not for her brother, Cece would probably have been taken in by Christopher as well. "You look happy today, Mr. Iverson. Did something good happen?" Cece asked cheerfully.
"I'm getting discharged tomorrow." Christopher looked up with a smile. "It's also my birthday tomorrow."
"Really? I should wish you a happy birthday."
"Thank you for your hard work, Cece."
"Don't mention it. It has been my honor to take care of you, Mr. Iverson." Cece put the tray by the table and picked up a syringe. "Shall I administer the shot? Do you need Dr. Cobb to verify the drug?"
"No, that's fine. Just leave the syringe there. My secretary will sort it out." Christopher's gaze fell back on his book.
"Alright. I will leave you be."
Once her back faced Christopher, Cece made a face and left the ward.
Minutes later, Taylor hurried back to Christopher's side.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Iverson."
"Judging by the look on your face, something good must have happened," Christopher uttered with a faint smile.
"Erm…" Taylor scratched his head embarrassedly, keeping mum about the whole thing. "Alright. Keep your little secret. It's the same thing year in and year out." Christopher rolled up his sleeve and reached his muscular arm out. "I trust you the most."
Taylor approached with respect, picked up the syringe on the tray, and skillfully punctured Christopher's vein.
Feeling a brush of chill along the veins of his arm, Christopher sank his back into the headboard and closed his eyes.
Suddenly, the door to the ward opened, and a bodyguard stumbled in, looking rather flustered. "U-Uh, Mr. Iverson. T-The police are here."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2113-Christopher and Taylor scowled.
"What are the cops doing here? I don't care how you do it. Just stop them," Taylor barked, his eyes bulging with rage.
The bodyguard broke out in a cold sweat. "B-But they have already-"
"Who is the captain?" Christopher asked grimacingly, his pale head hung low.
"Ralph Thompson."
Taylor nervously turned to Christopher, who kept a stoic expression.
The door to the ward burst open, and Ralph, dressed in civilian clothes, stormed in to meet Christopher's menacing gaze. A gust of cold wind accompanied him.
"I'm sure I don't have to introduce myself, Mr. Iverson." Ralph smirked sarcastically and flashed his badge.
"Long time no see, Ralph." Christopher smiled kindly as always.
"Don't try to be friendly, Mr. Iverson."
Ralph, a seasoned detective, had faced off against many violent criminals in his lifetime. Yet he could not hide his hostility when confronting Christopher. "It makes my day when Justin cozies up to me, but your attitude just makes me sick."
The menace was barely visible in Christopher's eyes.
The Thompsons knew exactly how to hurt Christopher the most.
"I don't care why you're here, but your unwelcome presence is disturbing Mr. Iverson's rest. We can sue you, officer." Taylor flipped out, unable to tolerate such disrespect to his boss.
"Captain Thompson, I'm happy to cooperate with the police for whatever reason you are here for, but I am currently undergoing treatment. You should at least let me take my medication." Christopher finally appeared frail.
"Hang on."
At the wave of Ralph's arm, two police officers in the back grabbed Taylor from both sides and took the syringe from his hand.
"What are you doing?" Taylor put up a fight and yelled.
"Keep still before we charge you for assaulting a uniformed officer!" One of the police officers shouted.
Christopher lowered his gaze. "What's the meaning of this, Captain?"
"We've got a tip about your suspected involvement in drug use and possession. We are placing you under arrest." Ralph looked ahead and drew close.
Christopher was cuffed.
"Mr. Iverson!" Taylor struggled. "You need proof to make an arrest. We can sue you for slander if you can't produce evidence."
Hiding his violence behind his eyes, Christopher stayed put.
"We won't make an arrest without proof." Ralph looked askance at the wicked man, his fists clenching. "Come with us, Mr. Iverson."
Due to Christopher's arrest, Taylor, his confidante, was brought to the station for questioning.
However, Taylor was loyal to Christopher and denied any drug use.
Taylor walked out of the interrogation room, looking haggard in the wee hours of the morning. He ran into Christopher's attorney, who had been waiting in the lobby.
"Mr. Iverson's arrest over drug use has spread to the public, Taylor. The stock will drop when the trading market opens tomorrow." Attorney Lyles looked concerned.
"The shares don't matter at a time like this. The priority is to get Mr. Iverson out."
Taylor paced around, his voice hoarse. "What's the word on the police?"
"The drug you were going to administer to Mr. Iverson isn't some medication. It's an illegal and dangerous substance that's been used in human experimentation."
Shocked, Taylor gasped sharply. "What did you say?"
"That drug caused a major scandal in Savrow, and the police have determined that the drug is falsely classified as a pharmaceutical product. They have reason to believe that Mr. Iverson has been administered this very drug during his stay at the hospital." Attorney Lyles 'throat went dry. "So Mr. Iverson will have trouble clearing his name."
"That's utter nonsense. The shots Mr. Iverson has been getting…"
Chills ran down Taylor's spine. "These are medications to treat his illness. How did the medication become drugs? Something is wrong. Someone is colluding with the police to frame Mr. Iverson."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2114-"That doesn't matter now. He was caught in the act. The police will need a urine sample from Mr. Iverson, and if the result shows positive, the police will get all the proof they need."
"The test will prove Mr. Iverson's innocence because he never touches that stuff." Taylor was confident.
Christopher only trusted Taylor. No one but Taylor had the utmost faith in Christopher.
Taylor had his suspicions, though.
Christopher's medication somehow turned into drugs.
The medication had always been inspected before use, but today was the only exception.
Taylor turned pale and pulled out his phone shakily. He dialed a number and gnashed his teeth.
"Restrain the nurse named Cece who injected Mr. Iverson in the last few days. I want to see her now."
"I was about to report to you, Taylor."
The subordinate shivered. "Cece left the hospital and went off the grid once Mr. Iverson was arrested."
Taylor was furious as he knew that they had been set up.
Escorted by Justin and Ian, Cece left the hospital after the incident.
Though Christopher deserved to die, Cece could be caught by the police and the Iversons for switching medications and falsifying evidence.
Bella wanted to shield Cece from Linny's tragic end. Hence, she hid Cece in her home at Yara Park. No one could hurt her there.
"Has Cece arrived safely?" Bella called Justin. She and Steven stayed in Savrow.
"Don't worry. She's doing fine. She's been excited, chatting nonstop since finding out that Christopher was arrested." Justin chuckled.
"Keep her safe. Don't let anyone harm her."
"Rest assured that I'm on it." Justin's husky voice was affectionate. "I'm concerned about you being alone in Savrow, Bella."
"Hahaha. I'm the last person you should be worried about!" Bella crossed her legs in the car and beamed. "Christopher won't do anything to me. Did you forget that I'm the woman of his dreams?"
"Don't upset me, Bella." Justin's breathing heaved, and his voice sounded bitter. "You know well that I can't bear to listen to that crap."
Bella blushed, but her eyes reflected aloofness. "Well, he can dream."
Ralph's call came in.
"Ralph's calling me, Justin. Talk to you later!"
Bella ended the call with Justin and took Ralph's call.
"What's the situation, Ralph?"
"Is Christopher really using, Bella? I'm taking a gamble. It's my career in the force on the line."
Bella bit her lip.
"If the urine sample doesn't show Christopher using substances, we will have to release him after 24 hours. I'll get reprimanded too."
"I don't know if he's using. I'm taking a gamble too."
With nothing to live for, Ralph whined, "Oh, you didn't just do this to me."
"Come on. It might be a gamble, but I'm almost certain that I'm right." Bella's eyes radiated. "I'm taking my chance that the drug dealer can't be all that clean. Since he has chosen this life, he must be in it deep."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2115-Christopher was nearing the end of his 24-hour detention in the interrogation room.
In Sentania, Christopher was the constant target of flattery, ingratiation, and fawning.
Upon his return, Christopher dominated the city's nightlife with Pivotage. Subsequently, he seized control of the Iverson Group, becoming the chairman of hundreds of employees.
Bathed in power, wealth, and fame, Christopher became unaccustomed to detention or disrespect.
Every passing moment was an agonizing torment.
It was utter humiliation to Christopher.
"It's nearly 24 hours. When can I leave?" Christopher sat on the cold and uncomfortable chair with his legs crossed in the interrogation room, his eyes grim behind his gold-rimmed glasses.
"What's the rush, Mr. Iverson? We have time." Ralph sat across from Christopher, holding firmly on his own. "Besides, it's 15 minutes more to 24 hours. I can't let you walk out a second less, not after I finally got you."
Only God knew how fast Ralph's heart was racing.
It would take ten minutes before the result of the urine sample was out. If Christopher's result turned out clean, Ralph would have to let him go and bear the responsibility for a wrongful arrest. It would not be easy to catch Christopher the second time.
"I got it. You want to keep me here longer to catch up." Christopher leaned back on his seat, his gaze piercing against his discolored face. He looked at the time. "We can chat. Let's chat about your little set-up with Bella."
Ralph's heart sank. "Stop the groundless accusation, Christopher."
"What about your groundless arrest? Don't tell me that you brought me here just for coffee." Christopher, his eyes burning with rage, squished the paper cup. "But I have to say that the coffee here sucks. If the government fund is limited, the Iverson Group will be glad to sponsor some coffee beans."
"Christopher!" Ralph jolted to his feet angrily.
"What's with the attitude? Are you trying to beat a confession out of me?" Christopher crumpled the paper cup, the veins bulging along the back of his hand. "I'll have you know that I never abuse substances. I never have and never will. You'd be better off thinking about what to say to your police chief in these last 15 minutes, Ralph."
He then closed his eyes.
Ralph was livid. If it had not been for his uniform, Ralph would have given Christopher a piece of his mind and more.
Time passed.
Christopher glanced at his watch with a sarcastic grin as the clock ticked down the last 5 minutes.
The door to the interrogation room swung open, and a police officer barged into the room with the test result.
"The result for the urine sample is out, Captain."
Ralph's heart raced while Christopher smiled deeper.
"It's positive."
The smile on Christopher's face froze. Losing composure, Christopher slammed the table, and his eyes turned bloodshot.
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2116-"That's impossible! I'm not a user." Christopher shouted.
Ralph took the medical report from his colleague and opened it up to verify the result. His lips quivered with thrill. He approached and hurled the document in Christopher's face, his eyes sparkling.
"The law is just. It will never punish an innocent person, nor will it let a guilty one go free. The evidence is stacked up against you. Even if you deny it, the evidence speaks for itself!"
Christopher stared at the result in black and white, his ears buzzing. He had a drug empire in Sentania because it was the quickest way to get rich.
However, Christopher knew that drug use was a path to no return. Hence, he steered clear of the substance despite his many years in the business.
Yet, his urine sample produced a positive result for illicit substances.
The color drained from his face as he broke out in a cold sweat.
Struck by a thought, Christopher felt a dizzy spell.
It was his medication.
There was a problem with the drug provided by the Boss.
Overcome by emotions, Christopher could not stop his hands from shaking.
"Ha. You can deny it all you want." With his eyes fixated on Christopher, Ralph noticed his behavior. "You must be knee-deep in your addiction, Christopher. I bet you can't kick off the habit. You're already showing signs of withdrawal even though you've only been detained for 24 hours. You're a drug addict. What do you have to say for yourself?"
"You… You don't get it!" Christopher clutched his trembling arm and stared at Ralph menacingly.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Iverson. But you're here to stay." Ralph narrowed his eyes and grinned mockingly. "But you're not getting any coffee this time."
Today was Christopher's 28th birthday, yet he had to spend his birthday in lockup.
The press swarmed outside the police station, surrounding Taylor and Attorney Lyles. The pair's explanation fell on deaf ears as they struggled to break free from the crowd.
Across the road, Bella wound down her car window and stared at the bustle. Her expression reflected her confidence and control over the situation.
"Ms. Bella, the Iverson Group's shares dropped drastically today, and the public is on Christopher's ass for his drug use. This is a moment of celebration!" Steven grinned from ear to ear while scrolling through social media.
"It's too early to pop the champagne. The war is far from being over." Bella hid her emotions behind her calm face. "The survival of the Iversons and their business doesn't matter. The family business is just a front for Christopher's dirty dealings. He doesn't care what happens to the family. His ultimate goal is to serve his master and use the new drug to control Savrow."
Steven had a hair-raising moment.
"Since he is now behind bars, we should have enough time to deal with Owen Hopkins. That's the key to breaking Christopher."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2117Justin settled Cece in, making sure all aspects of her safety were covered before rushing back to Savrow in the middle of the night.
He returned to his home with Bella with worry, only to be greeted by her lovely laughter coming from the living room. She was watching a TV series with Wilma.
Feeling at ease, Justin smiled tenderly, put his suit over his arm, and crept over.
"You have not taken a break after a full day of work, Young Madam. Yet, you still find the time to make something for the young master."
Wilma peeled an orange and put it on Bella's palm, her eyes reflecting concern. "I can do it for you. You should use the time to rest."
"It's okay. I'm not tired. Besides, I can focus on one task when making desserts. It helps me unwind and relax."
Bella ate a piece of orange with a smile and fed Wilma one too. "Justin hasn't taken a break for a while now. Once he returns, he can have something sweet, take a shower, and have a nice sleep."
"Sigh. You never took a break for three years when caring for his needs back at Tideview Manor. You're doing the same thing now." Wilma felt a little frustrated. "You should love yourself more, Young Madam. Don't be too good to him. You'll spoil him."
Standing in the shadows, Justin pursed his lips as his emotions overwhelmed his every being.
"My love is reserved for my man." As Justin's good-looking features came to mind, Bella could not stop having butterflies in her belly. "Besides, Justin is worth it."
Justin teared up and swallowed hard.
He never felt worthy of her love.
Justin simply felt he was lucky. That was all.
"Ah!" Startled by a figure standing there, Bella nearly spat out the orange piece in her mouth. "Justin? When did you come back? Why are you standing there like a statue? You scared me to death!"
"Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop on you." Justin approached Bella as the latter drew close too.Owned by Like magnets, they embraced each other.
"Did you miss me?" Justin's warm palm held the back of her head. He lowered his head, his nose touching hers.
"You stole my line." Bella blinked and whined softly.
"I did."
Before she could say anything else, Justin eagerly told her with a rugged breath, "I missed you, Bella. I really, really do."
Bella knew he was not lying by the look of his heavy eyebags and bloodshot eyes.
Tipping her toes on her fluffy slippers, she wrapped her arms around his neck and sealed his cold lips.
Justin would not stop with just a peck. He pulled her deeper into his arms, his arm stretching around her back as their tongues intertwined. Justin wanted to cover her up in his scent.
Bella melted in his arms, her cheeks flushed.
Wilma went into the kitchen to check the dessert in the oven, giving the couple some space.
Bella's phone rang during their moment of intimacy.
"Uh… Hang on. I need to take this."
She fished her phone out of her pajama pocket and paced her breathing before taking the call from Ralph.
"We have a problem, Bella."
"What is it?" Bella and Justin were anxious.
"Christopher wants to see you."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2118-Ralph gritted his teeth, feeling peevish about the whole situation. "He plays dumb throughout the interrogation. Later, his attorney told me that he would only talk once he sees you."
"Don't go, Bella." As his eyes turned red, Justin shook his head. "It might be part of Christopher's plan. I can't let you meet with him."
"Oh, my. Are you jealous?" With a smile, Bella drew circles on his chest.
"Don't go, Bella. I'm serious." Justin's voice was raspy.
"I'm going. I'm serious." Bella looked at him with sparkling eyes. "My family has a history of taking risks. I can't be the one to break the family tradition."
Ralph met Bella in the lobby of the police station. Knowing that it was his stop, Justin halted his heavy footsteps.
Christopher occupied a single room in the detention center, which held only a stiff bed.
Even in the harsh conditions of his imprisonment, Christopher sat up straight in his well-tailored suit, his hair perfectly in place.
His pale face was marred by the shadow of a beard, adding a hint of desolation to his usual sophistication. Christopher opened his eyes at the familiar clicking of heels.
His gaze penetrated the iron bars, locking onto Bella, who stood perpetually on the other side.
She had always been the woman he loved and waited for.
"You're here, Bella." Christopher's eyes spoke of tenderness, and his voice was husky. "You're quick."
With a straight face, Bella glanced at the security camera in the upper-left corner. Knowing that Ralph and Justin were watching over her, she felt safe.
Bella said, "Didn't you say that you'd start talking once I got here? Well, here I am. Now, talk. Don't waste our time."
Christopher looked deep into her eyes, his sad eyes harboring so much affection. "You're as cold to me as ever."
"Anyone with a shred of conscience will not put up with your act." Bella's eyes were devoid of emotions. There was a wall between them.
"It's my birthday today, Bella." Christopher stiffly rose to his feet and inched closer to Bella yearningly." Can you wish me a happy birthday?"
Bella stared at Christopher past the iron bars in silence.
Justin witnessed the whole thing on surveillance, clenching his fists until his veins bulged.
"Don't worry, Justin. The snake is behind bars. He can't hurt Bella." Ralph patted Justin's wide shoulder." Even if he gets out, I believe he won't hurt her."
"How can you be so sure, Ralph?" Justin asked in a hoarse voice as the emotions hung heavy in his chest. "They were really close when they were kids." Ralph watched the surveillance while dwelling in the past. "Christopher wasn't seen or heard in his family during his younger days. Every kid of the Iverson has their birthday parties except him. Chairman Iverson doesn't even remember his birthday. Christopher would come to our place for three years, and Bella would make him a birthday cake. She would use her allowance to get him a present. Bella was his only friend. It's a pity that a nice boy has now become an evil killing machine. It's so infuriating and a shame."
Overwhelmed by a sinking feeling, Justin stared at the surveillance with red-rimmed eyes.
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2119-Christopher locked gazes with Bella yearningly, a teardrop threatening to fall from his eyes.
"For the innocent and kind boy I had once known as Chris, I will always offer him my best wishes even if he doesn't say anything." Bella kept a stoic face. "But now, I can't grant your wish. Even if I do wish you a happy birthday, it doesn't come from my heart."
Christopher chuckled, not at all angry at her remarks.
"Do you still remember the birthday gift you got me back then? I didn't take anything with me when my dad drove me out of Savrow. I only took your gift with me to Sentania. Do you still remember what you got me, Bella?"
Bella clenched her fists without a word.
Of course, she still remembered.
"Soapbox car racing was all the craze at school. The kids at school owned one soapbox car, but I didn't. I was constantly picked on and left out because of it." Christopher murmured softly, his eyes sparkling with the joy of yesteryear. "You got me the soapbox car I always wanted for my birthday that year. It was red in color. Do you remember?"
Bella's heart sank.
The gifts she gave him were never superficial.
She went out of her way to protect the delicate boy's fragile ego.
ytoj "But I know it wasn't a coincidence. You simply took pity on me." The affection in Christopher's eyes was solely for her. "Even so, I was happy because the gift came from you."
"My feelings for you have never been sympathy or pity. I simply hope that my former friend can be happy." Bella's voice was strained with emotions.
"I wish we could go back to the past, but we can't." Christopher shook his head, his expression grim.
"This little catch-up is over. Let's get straight to the point." Bella's voice was icy.
"Bella, am I right to say that this is your setup?" Christopher grinned dotingly. "You came up with a plan when you ran into me at the hospital and approached me in the name of visiting. You kept an eye on my every move and paid off that nurse. You got her a clean slate and planted her close to me.
"Knowing that I'm cautious and suspicious, you took your time to make your move. You sent the nurse to deliver my meds to clear my doubts. Just yesterday, she switched my meds and colluded with Ralph to arrest me on the spot. I got to give it to the love of my life. Your little scheme is airtight, and I'm proud of you."
"What do you mean by colluding with Ralph? Ralph is a police officer. It's only right that he arrests suspects." Bella curled her red lips. "Slandering the CEO of KS Group should be added to your charges. Our legal team can nail that on you. You got caught with your pants down. The drug test proves it. Don't even try to deny it."
"I don't use." Christopher firmly refuted.
"Ha. Tell that to the police and see if they believe you!" Bella expressed her disgust. "I thought you were just evil, Christopher. I can't believe you're a coward too. You don't own up to the things you do."
"I only took an experimental drug from Meridan, Bella. The medicine is not some drug. I swear."
"Enough! Save your crap." Bella lost her patience, her eyes red-rimmed. "You tricked me to come here, Christopher. You have no intention to turn yourself in right from the start."
"Turn myself in? I'm innocent, Bella. Why should I turn myself in?" Christopher narrowed his eyes and grinned. "I just missed you. I wanted to see you. That's all."
"Christopher!" Bella shouted angrily.
Footsteps echoed.
"Mr. Iverson!"
Bella looked back in shock.
Escorted by a police officer, Taylor and Attorney Lyles entered the room. Taylor nodded respectfully at Bella with a grin.
"Thank you for visiting Mr. Iverson, Ms. Thompson. You're a good friend to him."
On the other end of the surveillance, Justin and Ralph were in shock.
"What's going on, Ralph?" Justin's eyes widened.
"Christopher was caught using, and the drug was found in his ward. How could they bail him out when the evidence is stacked up against him?!" Ralph was livid, his veins bulging.
Meanwhile, Taylor took out a certified diagnosis and showed it to Bella.
"Mr. Iverson has never used drugs, Ms. Thompson. He's been sick for years."
Bella took the medical report and read the contents.
Christopher had essential tremors.
"There is no cure for the illness. Back in Sentania, Mr. Iverson had to rely on medication to control his symptoms. I know better than anyone else the agony Mr. Iverson suffered throughout the years." Taylor made an agonized face. "Mr. Iverson needs this medication even in Savrow because the attacks can be very unbearable.
"We didn't expect the medication to have addictive properties. That is why the test on the urine sample came back positive, but it doesn't mean that Mr. Iverson is an addict. You got the wrong idea, Ms. Thompson."
Attorney Lyles echoed the same sentiment. "The police conducted their investigation and didn't find any drugs or proof he was dealing. The charge for using should be dropped."
"I told you I was sick, Bella. You never believed me." Christopher spoke in a low voice, his eyes reflecting sincerity. "Even if I lie to the world, I will never lie to you."
The Divorced Heiress Revenge Chapter 2120Bella stared at Christopher in disbelief, her heart sinking to the pit of her stomach.
She devised the perfect plan to capture Christopher while washing her hands completely and keeping those involved safe.
However, she was totally blindsided.
She did not foresee that Christopher needed to take medication for his illness.
"Though you have met bail, Mr. Iverson, you need to wear an ankle monitor and report your whereabouts to us at all times."
The police officer opened the door of the cell, and Christopher walked out with a straight face.
When brushing past Bella, Christopher paused and leaned into her ear to whisper softly. "Either way, thank you for visiting me, Bella. This is a birthday I'll never forget."
The group then took off.
Bella was left behind, clenching her fists with a pale face.
Granted bail, Christopher stood in front of the police station with a frail look and answered the press' questions.
"I need to take medication for my illness, so the substance showed up as positive in my urine sample. I would like to apologize for causing trouble to the police and taking up public resources just to clear the misunderstanding."
He hung his head low somberly. The high and mighty leader of a corporation humbled himself to admit a mistake that was not his fault in the first place.
He carried himself with such grace.
His approach stirred the crowd with emotion.
Besides, Christopher had the face and bearings to play the part of the wrongly accused victim perfectly.
"Mr. Iverson, how would you explain the news about illicit drugs in your ward?"
Taylor took over indignantly.
"Someone is out to get Mr. Iverson and the Iverson Group. We have filed a report with the police, and the police have begun their investigation. We are determined to bring justice to the real perpetrators and clear Mr. Iverson's name."
The press, who came to mock Christopher, now became his staunch supporters.
The public was now in favor of Christopher.
Attorney Lyles stayed behind to deal with the fallout while Christopher slipped into a Bentley under Taylor's escort.
"Where to, Mr. Iverson?" Taylor asked with concern.
"To Pivotage for a rest." Christopher sank his back wearily against his seat, took off his golden-framed glasses, and pinched between his brows.
Christopher's refined features were married by a rugged charm. "Hold a board meeting tomorrow morning at the Iverson Group. The company must be in turmoil. I need to show up to hold the fort down."
"You have had it rough, Mr. Iverson. You're not in tip-top shape yet. Don't work yourself to the core." Taylor was frustrated and sorry.
"Oh, well. Bella created a bit of a problem, and I needed to clean up after her." Christopher smiled tenderly, happy to indulge her.
"Even if you're going to yell at me, I have to say that Ms. Thompson has crossed the line, Mr. Iverson." Taylor was furious. "You might have been put in jail if the incident wasn't handled right. What would the Iverson Group be without a leader? How would you answer to the Boss?"
