The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 1

Twenty-six-year-old Leon Wolf was a married man whose dishonor was well-known across Springfield City. He lived with his wife’s family—the Mansons—and was treated like a slave during his three-year marriage. Dignity was something foreign to him, but he finally had enough of it one fateful night!

For the past three years, he worked like a horse in the Mansons’ company every single day, yet his salary had to be handed over to his wife Marilyn whom he could not even get without touching distance.

By the time he came home at night, he had to do laundry, mop, cook, and do all sorts of housework. Still, he worked hard without complaining.

He thought that doing all that would allow him to prove his worth to his wife and convince her to stay with him until they grew old, but what he received in exchange was a big gift—a baby!

His wife—whom he never once had the chance to get within touching distance of—was pregnant, and he was about to be a father!

Would anyone consider that good news, though?

“Is it that hard to wash the clothes clean or mop the floor well, Leon? You’re useless! Can’t you do anything right? Why should we let you stay with us when a dog would’ve done better than you?”

The harsh words came from Leon’s mother-in-law, Helen Manson. She pointed a finger at his face while she chastised him like there was no tomorrow.

Leon looked up, and his eyes were bloodshot due to anger.

“Helen!” Leon gritted his teeth and suppressed the voice in his throat.

“Don’t call me by my first name. You’re not worthy to be addressing me like that!”

Helen had an expression of disgust and contempt.

Leon remained silent and refrained from talking back.

Three years ago, he happened to chance upon the Mansons’ patriarch when the latter’s illness acted up all of a sudden.

Elder Manson, as he was known, was carried to the hospital on Leon’s back for about eight miles or so. The old man received treatment in time and was thus saved by Leon’s kindness.

Elder Manson probably felt it prudent to repay the favor by marrying off his granddaughter, Marilyn, to Leon. Everyone else in the family opposed it, but the old man turned a deaf ear to them.

Since then, Leon stayed with Mansons for three years.

Three years!

Even the coldest of people would warm up to someone in those three years, but it was impossible to do anything with that bitter mother-daughter duo!

Marilyn and her family looked down on him from the bottom of their hearts simply because he was an orphan with zero prospects and no family background.

Despite his best efforts, Marilyn and the others continued to nitpick, smack, and scold him at every turn.

Elder Manson was the only person in the entire family who treated him well.

When Elder Manson was around to protect him, his mother-in-law Helen was able to restrain herself—but only a little.

Ever since Elder Manson passed away from illness a month ago, Helen and everyone else had practically stepped up their efforts to drive him away.

He became a redundant existence in the family and spent his days being treated worse than a dog…

The room door swung open and Marilyn walked in, reeking of alcohol. Clad in fashionable clothes and black silk stockings, the gait of her long legs and her seductively blushing face was irresistible to almost every man.

Since she was back, Leon looked up at her and felt a surge of pain from his aching heart. He could not fathom how she could bring herself to go out for some drinks even when she was pregnant!

Leon’s first instinct was to head up and support her, but Marilyn immediately shoved him away.

“Hands off me! Pack up your stuff right now and get the hell out of here. We’re getting a divorce at the Civil Records Office tomorrow!”

“What! Why?!”

At that point, Helen showed up and began cursing at Leon as soon as she saw him standing there in a faze.

“What are you doing, Leon? Bring over a basin of water and start washing Lulu’s feet!”

Helen walked over to Marilyn with a doting expression on her face. She then held the woman’s hand in the gentlest of manners and asked worried, “Why are you drinking so much alcohol? It’s not good for the baby. You’ve put in so much effort to finally get pregnant with Brody’s son, so you mustn’t let anything happen to him.”

She already looked forward to having a grandson even though the baby was still months ahead of the due date because only a boy would give her daughter a chance to become Brody’s wife. The only reason she kept Leon around was that she was unsure about the baby’s gender—after all, someone needed to take care of her daughter, and a babysitter would cost extra money.

“Don’t bother washing my feet! I’ve suffered enough from your uselessness for the past three years, Leon! Let’s get divorced tomorrow!”

Marilyn looked at Leon with a cold, arrogant, and contemptuous expression.

Leon immediately felt as if his heart was pierced by thousands of arrows. He knew that he was not worthy of Marilyn, and yet he continued to work hard and endure everything for three years in the hopes of getting Marilyn’s approval.

Little did he know that he would receive a request for divorce in exchange for all his hard work!

“You’re right!” Helen understood soon enough. “After all, we have Brody’s child now, and it’s going to tarnish our reputation if news gets out that he’s still living with us.”

“I’m tired. Could you walk me to my room so I can rest? The sight of this idiot disgusts me!”

Marilyn stroked her stomach tenderly and began worrying whether other women around Brody would try to interfere with them once her belly got bigger. As Helen helped Marilyn into the room, she took a jibe at Leon, “Why are you still here? Are you going to stay around and take care of a baby that isn’t yours?”

In that split second, humiliation, anger, and a plethora of other negative emotions began to overwhelm Leon’s heart. He felt like an abandoned stray that was chased out mercilessly from its home. All his belongings from the three years of marriage—including his ID Card—were thrown into the trash can, and Leon’s strongest emotion right then was that of bitter disappointment.

He was homeless.

In those three years, his earnings from work were handed in full to his mother-in-law and he was never given a single cent. He was the same as a wild dog.

Leon wandered on the street and ended up at a cemetery, where he felt the cold air within the darkness.

He stood in front of a tombstone with a lonely expression and widened eyes, but not a single tear was shed.

He did not know whether to feel anger, despair, or disappointment.

He looked silently at the tombstone of the late Elder Manson, the only person who protected him and took care of him during those three years. After being kicked out of the house, Leon felt to pay his respects to the old man one last time.

Although the purpose of his visit was to pay his respects, he did not have any money on him and could not even afford to buy the cheapest flowers.

“Thank you for taking care of me during these three years, Sir…

“I’m going to divorce Marilyn tomorrow…

“I failed to live up to your expectations…”

Leon’s eyes were red. He knelt in the dark of the night and bowed to Elder Manson’s tombstone several times in a row. It was difficult to put the bitterness and sadness in his heart into words.

Once he paid his respects, he took a pendant, held it in his hand, and sat blankly on the ground with his back against the tombstone.

Unbeknownst to Leon, the pendant seemed to glow with white light, almost as if it could sense the anger and humiliation within him…

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 2

Leon proceeded to leave the cemetery after paying his respects to Elder Manson, but before he stepped out of the place, he spotted a beautiful woman in officewear standing at the entrance. She had a beautiful figure, and Leon wondered why someone like her would visit the cemetery in the middle of the night instead of being sound asleep in bed. She used heavy makeup too, prompting him to do a double take at her.

She seemed unhappy and muttered something along the lines of, “Broke-a*s b*stard”.

Leon usually ignored such remarks in the past because he did not stand to gain anything anyway if he reacted to them. However, the surprise his wife gave him by getting pregnant with someone else’s son, and his expulsion from the house, made him incredibly upset. He wanted to vent his feelings. In a hot-headed moment of impulsiveness, he ran to the woman and said, “Rather early of you to be offering yourself out of the street! How much do you charge for a night? I just so happen to be in a good mood today!”

Truth be told, Leon did not have a single cent in his pocket. He trembled a little when he spoke and was worried that she was a hooker because then he would not have anything to pay her with.

Luckily for him, the beautiful woman’s face turned ashen and she stared at Leon after hearing his statement.

She was a prim and proper woman, it seemed.

Leon felt secretly relieved.

He suffered a lot at the Mansons that day and he already hit rock bottom. When he saw the woman glaring at him, he added another sentence, “What are you staring at? Didn’t you hear my question? I asked you how much you’re charge for a night. What’s wrong? Are you expecting to be shown some dignity even though you’re out here selling yourself? I used to do combat training you know, so you’re the one who should be thanking me for a good time instead.”

That remark made the woman even angrier and she immediately yelled, “What’s your name? Which company are you from?”

“What’s it to you? Were you thinking about coming right to my place?”

Leon would not just foolishly tell random people about him.

“How dare you!”

The woman’s face turned red with anger, but she had no choice other than to run away from Leon, leaving the latter feeling very resentful.

As Leon turned to leave, he saw two shady young people sneaking into the cemetery. They were each holding a sack and a rope.

They did not see Leon because the place was too dark and the surroundings were blocked by trees and tombstones.

Any smart person could see that those two were up to no good.

Leon frowned and surmised that they were after that woman and so decided to follow them secretly. Sure enough, the beautiful woman who seemed to be waiting in the cemetery was immediately attacked from behind by the two men and stuffed right into the sack. Her mouth was stuffed with a pair of stinking socks, and all her struggling and resistance were in vain.

Soon, one of the stronger men held down the woman while the other brought a huge and heavy stone and tied it to the sack.

The two of them then lifted the stone and threw it into the river with a plop.

Leon’s pupils widened!

It was murder!

Leon’s first instinct was to run away, but he was worried that he would startle the men through any sounds he made while doing so. As a result, he kept hiding behind the tombstone and waited until the two men left before sticking his head out cautiously.

After giving it some thought, Leon jumped into the water. He might be a cowardly man, but the values instilled in him since childhood meant that he could not just stand by and watch a weak woman being killed right in front of him.

Leon rescued the woman from the water in no time. He ignored the fact that he was wet and panting and untied the sack immediately. Unfortunately, he did not notice that he was just beside a dagger dropped by one of the men.

Elsewhere, the two young men went all the way to the road outside the cemetery, where a high-end luxury SUV was parked.

The two were about to get into the car and leave when Marco subconsciously reached out for his boots.

His expression changed in an instant.

“Dang, I dropped my dagger! It’s probably somewhere by the river… We need to hurry up and get it back. There are fingerprints on it…”

The two men ran back toward the river.

When Leon opened the sack, the woman inside was already soaking wet. Her white top and a short, hip-hugging skirt were all wet, clinging tightly to her body and accentuating her curvy and exquisite figure. Her top, in particular, revealed vague traces of her small black lace bra.

It was a sight to behold!

Leon could not help but gulp. He thought that Marilyn was already a beautiful enough woman, and he never would have expected the woman in front of him to surpass Marilyn’s beauty by a mile.

The woman was underwater for long enough that her face was pale and she could not even breathe. There was nothing Leon could do except put one hand on her ample bust and give her some mouth-to-mouth respiration.

To his surprise, her bust was soft and her lips were even softer, the latter with almost a hint of sweetness to them.

Leon could not help but fantasize even more.

Moments later, Leon finally resuscitated her.

“Bleagh…”

The woman coughed out several mouthfuls of water. Her eyelashes trembled slightly and she finally regained her senses.

The woman could sense a warmness on her lips. When she raised her head again, she saw Leon’s hand stroking her leg, so she kicked him to the river in a fit of anger.

He even scolded him, “What do you think you’re doing, feeling me up like that?! You pervert! Disgusting!”

Leon was caught by surprise and ended up falling into the water.

He thrashed and flailed a couple of times in the river before successfully climbing back ashore. At that moment, he looked even more pitiful than before.

He suffered so many wrongs that day and looked at the woman with an enraged expression. He did not even bother to explain what happened to her.

“Women are all the same! I saved you and gave you mouth-to-mouth, but rather than thank me, you kicked me into the river! Didn’t your parents teach you anything? I think I ought to punish you on behalf of your father!”

Leon said and strode up to her. The woman started to panic, and her whole body—including her chest and voice— trembled. “Hey, quit messing around!”

If somebody did something to her in such a desolate area and threw her back into the water, no one would be able to find any evidence.

Leon then snatched her water-damaged cell phone and car keys. He destroyed her cell by smashing it hard on the ground and then threw the car key into the water!

“Let’s see you act tough now!”

Leon said angrily, “You’re an ungrateful one, aren’t you? We’re out in the wild right now, and I just broke your cell. What if I left right now and took a taxi home? How are you going to survive here? You can’t call a taxi without your cell phone, and you can’t open your car now that the keys are swimming with the fish. Do you want to go home? Well, fat chance! I’m going to leave you here where even the grass doesn’t grow. It’s a cemetery, so I’m sure you’ll have lots of company at night.”

Leon then walked off with big strides.

The woman was so scared that she shook like a leaf and cried, “No! Don’t! Don’t do this! I’m begging you!”

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 3

The cemetery was located in a remote area, to begin with!

Leon was confident that there were no ghosts around, but he could not say for sure about the many rumors that wolves lurked around the area. The woman was wet after being hauled out from the river, and she would not be able to walk far since she was injured. Considering how far away the place was, it was almost certain that no one would go there to rescue her. For a woman whose car keys were thrown into the river and whose cell phone shattered, spending a night there would be more agonizing than death.

Unfortunately for her, Leon had every intention of punishing her for her ungratefulness.

Leon strode away.

“You jerk! Don’t just leave me here!”

The woman tried chasing after Leon, but it was all in vain as he left in a rage. She cursed wildly and felt incredibly dejected, for she did not expect that a dignified young woman like her would suffer such treatment in the hands of an ordinary person.

“B*stard! Once I find out who you are, I sure as hell will make you pay!” the woman, whose name was Iris Young, shouted.

As soon as she said that, Leon decided to ignore her firmly even though he felt a little reluctant to act that way earlier.

When Iris saw Leon disappearing from her sight, she felt like crying but somehow could not shed even a single tear. The heel of her high heels snapped, and she shivered due to the cold wind because her body was still wet. She looked around warily as she sensed the eeriness of her surroundings. Even if there were no wolves around, there was no telling whether they might be any supernatural manifestations since they were in a cemetery.

She hated Leon with every fiber of her body, for she never suffered such mistreatment in all her life as a pampered eldest daughter in her family.

Leon, on the other hand, began to regret what he did within a minute or two after leaving. He was a good person with a good heart, and without that goodness in him, he would not have saved old Elder Manson all those years ago and endured all that torment the Mansons subjected him to for so many years. When he lashed out at the woman earlier, he simply poured out all his resentment toward Marilyn and Helen on the innocent Iris. His brief walk gave him the chance to calm down, especially since there was a gentle wind blowing on him.

He thought to himself, ‘She’s a girl. Doing that to her would be crossing the line on my part. Even if she didn’t encounter any wolves or ghosts, she’d still end up with a bad cold if she stayed out here all night. My conscience will eat away at me for the rest of my life if anything bad happens to her. Scaring her a little is enough. I shouldn’t leave her here the entire night.’

Leon then turned around and went to find her.

As soon as he arrived at the place where he left Iris, she was nowhere to be seen

Leon got anxious. He searched high and low for her but found nothing except her high heels.

It was not a good sign!

Leon knew that something Iris was in trouble, and he soon heard Iris’s faint cry for help. He ran over to the direction of the sound and his anger returned once more. It turned out that the two thugs from before returned, and killing Iris was no longer their sole agenda. Anyone could guess that the men were feeling a little turned on when they returned and saw Iris all wet and dripping.

Iris was practically stripped bare already by the time Leon found her. At that point, he completely disregarded the fact that he was no match for those two men and ran over to kick them. He then gazed down and saw that Iris was down to her last pieces of clothing. As much as she tried to cover it, she was unable to hide the glowing fairness of her exposed skin. Leon subconscious beamed at her delightful figure and deemed her one of the most stunning women he ever saw.

At the very least, it was much better than Marilyn’s figure when he peeped at her while she took a bath.

“Are you alright?”

The guilt-ridden Leon took off his clothes and threw them to Iris so she could cover her body.

Iris hurriedly covered herself with the clothes, but she felt angry and helpless when she saw that her savior was Leon. Her hand took on a mind of its own and wanted to slap him in the face, but a scene she saw from the corner of her eye caused her to yell instead.

“Be careful!” she warned, but it was already too late.

The thug, clad in a black suit, was a robustly-built man. By contrast, Leon had an ordinary build and so failed to block the man. With a kick, the man sent Leon flying two or three meters away. He then took out the dagger he dropped earlier and sneered.

“Trying to get yourself killed?”

The man in the black suit stepped on Leon’s chest and raised the shining dagger to kill Leon.

Behind him, the man who earlier tore off Iris’s clothes and was kicked away by Leon urged, “Marco, the Youngs are powerful, and it won’t be long before they track us both down. We can’t waste any more time. Deal with them and don’t make a single mistake!”

‘That’s rich, coming from you.’ Marco thought somewhat unhappily. After all, they would have ended Iris’s life had the other guy not given in to those lustful impulses.

However, it was not the time to be arguing about who was right, and Marco immediately stabbed Leon’s chest with a dagger.

Blood splattered everywhere!

With his last dying breath, Leon gritted his teeth, grabbed Marco’s thigh fiercely, and shouted at Iris.

“Run! My life’s not worth much, so it doesn’t matter if I die. Save yourself! Don’t worry about me!”

Leon smiled bitterly at Iris before his impending death. As angry as he was deep down, he remained the honest Leon during the last moments of his life.

He decided that he was not going to be that kind of person again in his next life.

Leon’s bitter smile encompassed a myriad of emotions, including sourness, desolation, and despair.

Iris’s delicate body was shocked stiff. She seemed to be able to read Leon’s inner fragility and sadness through his smile, and it was a far cry from the brave and strong appearance he put on.

Iris did not escape because she knew that it was a futile effort once Leon died.

Upon seeing Leon’s death, Iris’s pretty face turned pale and she slumped to the ground.

Although Leon bullied her earlier, it was inevitable for her to feel sad when she saw him giving up his life to save her.

At the same time, blood gushed out from Leon’s chest and stained the pendant hanging around his neck.

No one noticed the white glow on the pendant that began entering Leon’s body from the wound.

‘I am an ancestor of the Wolfs, and my renown pales not against that of legendary deities. Should fate be upon any one of my descendants, they shall inherit what is contained within me…’

As he was about to die, a whole mess of jumbled-up information poured into Leon’s mind.

Moments later, he seemed to be returning toward the light as his pale face turned abnormally red and an unknown power coursed through his body.

“You’re next, Iris!”

The man in the black suit sneered and walked toward Iris with the dagger.

Iris sat paralyzed on the ground with a look of despair and grief.

“Behind you!”

The other guy shouted angrily but it was unfortunately too late.

Leon picked up the dagger on the ground, stood up all of a sudden, and stabbed the man in the black suit from behind.

“How…”

The man in the black suit turned his head suddenly, stared wide-eyed at Leon, and collapsed to the ground with a thud. He was dead before he could even think, ‘How did you come back to

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 4

Leon gained unlimited power after coming back to life, and although he could not master it right away, it was more than enough to deal with those two thugs. The remaining person was stupefied when he saw what happened, and Leon seized the opportunity to grab him before tumbling down into the water.

Iris saw the whole thing and wondered if they were going to die together.

A conflicted expression appeared on her face. The man might be annoying, yet he was willing to sacrifice his life to save her even though their encounter that day was only by sheer chance.

Iris’s legs were already weak at that point, and she had to crawl to reach the water’s edge. Her emotions were a complete mess because she was unsure whether or not she wanted Leon to resurface. He might have saved her, but her chaste body was touched and seen by him, not to mention the fact that he practically kissed her during the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Iris bit her lip and waited, but he showed no signs of resurfacing. She wondered whether he died or survived and was unsure of his fate.

Tears unconsciously welled up in her eyes and nothing she did was able to stop them from coming…

Moments later, she heard the sound of a car horn. The Youngs’ bodyguards already commenced their search for her.

She wore Leon’s clothes and continued to wait. Once she confirmed that Leon did not come out of the water, she said gently to the river, “My name is Iris Young. Come and see me sometime…”

Iris turned around and left but she did not know that Leon heard everything she said from underwater.

‘Iris… What a beautiful name!’

After returning home, Iris seemed to have lost her mind as she ordered the group of bodyguards to go dive into the river and find Leon. In the end, however, no trace of him was found.

All they knew was that his name was Leon Wolf, famously known as the son-in-law who lived like a dog with his wife’s family.

One of the bodyguards also found his ID card, which was said to have been discovered at a recycling center.

Something just seemed off about the whole situation.

Marilyn and Helen both waited outside the Civil Records Office.

From time to time, Marilyn raised her wrist to check the time on her watch. Her anger only increased with each passing minute.

She already agreed with Leon to get their divorce finalized that morning, but it was almost noon and Leon was still nowhere to be seen.

Furthermore, Leon did not return home the entire night, and his cell was unreachable when she tried to do so earlier. She had no idea where he went and had no means of contacting him at all.

As Marilyn’s impatience grew, Leon showed up at last. He was almost out of breath as he ran over from some distance away.

His clothes were torn, and he looked like the epitome of embarrassment!

After Leon bullied Iris, he came to discover that Iris was the daughter of an influential family. As a result, he did not dare to resurface from the water and decided to lurk underwater instead. After Iris presumed him dead and spoke to the river, Leon could still sense that there were bodyguards searching the area. He thus decided to swim along the current and go downstream, but later fainted in the water because of everything he went through that night.

By the time he woke up, it was already around nine in the morning.

He immediately remembered his divorce from Marilyn, which prompted him to rush over because he wanted to free himself from her as soon as possible.

Marilyn, however, ran up to him and raised her hand to give Leon a resounding slap.

“Where the hell did you go last night, you worthless piece of trash! Didn’t I tell you last night that we’re getting divorced this morning? It’s almost noon now! You’re wasting so much of my time!” Marilyn lambasted.

“I was busy last night…”

Leon covered his face. How he wished he could slap her back if only he had the guts to do it! In the end, all he could do was grit his teeth and endure the humiliation.

“What can a useless b*stard like you possibly be busy with? Did you go out and sleep with someone else because you were angry with what happened last night?”

Helen walked over with a strange look on her face.

“You’re overestimating him, Mom! No woman is going to want trash like him, not unless they were blind! Even if went looking for hookers, it’s not like he has any money to pay them!”

Marilyn laughed mockingly.

Leon’s face turned ashen, then red, and he could not bring himself to look up due to the two women’s mocking.

“Not that it matters anyway. Seeing you makes me sick! Let’s get this divorce done and over with!”

Marilyn snorted coldly before turning around and walking proudly toward the entrance of the Civil Records Office.

At that moment, Leon said awkwardly, “I don’t think we can do that. My ID card is missing. When you kicked me out of the house yesterday, you threw all my belongings into the trash. My ID card was included in those documents, but neither of you noticed it. Now that it’s sent to the garbage dump for incineration, there’s no way to find my ID.”

“What?”

A stunned Marilyn turned back to stare at Leon and said with a sneer, “You’re just trying to use any excuse you can so you don’t need to get a divorce, right? Who are you trying to fool by saying that you lost your ID card? Are you a man?”

Helen then added, “Absolutely. If you don’t want a divorce, just say so! Or do you enjoy being cucked? Maybe you’re secretly happy to raise a child that’s not yours?”

“I’m telling the truth. My ID card is missing. And it’s your fault too! What does it have to do with me?”

Leon clenched his fists tightly and got so anxious that his eyes turned red.

As much as he would like to divorce Marilyn immediately, there was nothing he could do without his ID card.

At that moment, two vehicles—a luxurious Porsche and a black Audi—stopped in front of Leon.

When Porsche’s door opened, a young man that was about 26- or 27 years old walked out of the car. He wore sunglasses and a set of expensive designer clothes.

Moments later, two bodyguards in suits and leather shoes stepped out of the Audi and followed after the young man in a dignified and pompous manner.

It quickly attracted the attention of many passers-by.

Everyone could tell at a glance that the young man must be some pampered rich kid.

“Brody, you’re here…”

The Marilyn family looked happy, as if they changed, and greeted them flatteringly.

Brody took off his sunglasses and put on airs as he asked arrogantly, “Didn’t you say you were going to divorce your useless husband today? Why haven’t you completed the divorce procedures yet?

“Boy, do I have news for you! This useless b*stard deliberately came late this morning, and stubbornly refused to get a divorce because he kept saying that he lost his ID card! Don’t you think he’s just ridiculous!”

Marilyn glared fiercely at Leon.

“Who says you can’t get a divorce without an ID card? I’m friends with the manager here! Come with me, I’ll bring you to settle it!”

Brody hooked his hand intimately around Marilyn’s slender waist while glancing coldly at Leon. A murderous look flashed in his eyes as he said, “I’m warning you, Kid. You’d better go ahead with the divorce like a good boy. If you try to play tricks so you can hang on to Marilyn, I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life!”

“Hear that, idiot? Even if you don’t have an ID card, my husband can still go make sure the divorce goes through! Let’s see what nonsense you’re going to come up with now!”

Marilyn smiled smugly at Leon and gave Brody a kiss on the cheek. The two of them then flirted with each other as they entered the building.

No one could doubt that they were a terrible couple!

Leon clenched his fists tightly and his eyes were full of anger.

Marilyn did not only cuck him but even deliberately showed her affection to the man in front of him. Her ruthlessness knew no bounds!

Leon, however, reminded himself that freedom was within reach, so he calmed himself down and strode into the Civil Records Office behind Marilyn, Brody, and Helen.v

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 5

“I’m sorry, Miss Manson. According to the marriage law, there’s a one-month cooling-off period when filing for a divorce. Besides, your husband doesn’t have his ID card, so we can’t process your divorce right away…”

A female staff member returned all the documents politely to Marilyn.

“Screw this! Why is there a cooling-off period before I can get a divorce?! Call your manager. I want him to proceed with it right away!”

Brody slapped the table angrily.

“Sir, I’m just following the rules…”

The female staff was unhappy but she still maintained her politeness.

“Don’t give me that crap! I told you to call your manager! Are you deaf?” Brody shouted harshly.

He caused such a huge ruckus that everyone was either giving him the side-eye or peering at him with a weird expression.

It was the first time an incident like that happened there.

At that moment, the senior officials within the Civil Records Office were also alarmed, and a middle-aged man with a slightly fat body trotted over in a rush.

“It’s you, Brody… Please calm down. Amber here isn’t aware of who you are. She didn’t mean to… please forgive me…”

The middle-aged man smiled apologetically before turning around and scolding the female staff. “Do you know who this is, Amber? He’s the boss of Sullivan Enterprises. You should apologize right away!”

“Sullivan Enterprises?”

The people around were taken aback.

Sullivan Enterprises is a well-known upstart in Springfield City. Its total assets reached as high as half a billion and it had an insane amount of wealth. He was the kind of person that no one should offend.

“I’m sorry, Mister Sullivan. I was mistaken. Please forgive me…”

Amber was so frightened that she quickly got up and bowed to Brody in apology.

Brody was satisfied with this, and at the same time, he enjoyed the awe-inspiring gazes cast by the people around him.

“Mister Loewe, please expedite the divorce for my woman. And while you’re at it, register our marriage too!”

“Yes, I’ll do it right now.”

The middle-aged man smiled and processed both the divorce between Leon and Marilyn as well as the marriage between Marilyn and Brody.

“You’re amazing, darling! I love that side of you!” Marilyn snuggled in Brody’s arms like a kitten and said coquettishly.

Brody’s power and influence brought pride to Marilyn and Helen.

“Who is she? How did she get to know Sullivan Enterprises’ eldest young master?”

“She is one lucky woman!”

The people around her could not help but cast envious glances at Marilyn, with some of the young women showing a rather noticeable look of jealousy.

Marilyn basked in the limelight as she giggled and smiled. She became as pretentious as could be!

Meanwhile, everyone immediately felt that Leon’s position in the relationship was usurped. Everyone stared at him strangely, with some feeling pity toward him while others showed contempt.

Leon felt more and more humiliated as a result, and he wishes he could just dig a hole and burrow into it!

After getting the divorce certificate, the sour-faced Leon was about to leave when Brody stopped him.

“Leaving so soon? I won’t let you off so easy!”

Brody smiled coldly.

Leon’s face sank. “What are you planning on doing to me?”

“What do you think? You wasted so much of my woman’s time this morning, and you were adamantly refusing to go ahead with the divorce on the pretext that you lost your ID card! Do you think I’ll just let all that slide?” Brody sneered.

“I’ve made myself very clear, didn’t I? I never refused to divorce her and my ID card is missing…”

Leon suppressed his anger.

“Don’t give me that crap! Do you think I’m that easy to fool?”

Brody smiled contemptuously and turned around to order his two bodyguards, “Hit him. Teach this idiot a lesson! Show him what’s in store for him if he tries to trick me!”

“Understood!”

The two bodyguards smiled grimly as raised their fists to punch Leon.

The two bodyguards frequently did combat training and Leon was immediately thrown to the ground. Leon could only curl his head into a ball with his hands and suffer the barrage of blows from the bodyguards’ fists and feet.

“How miserable for him!”

“His wife was snatched away and he’s being beaten up too!”

“I’d much rather die if I was as useless as he is!”

Everyone there began whispering among themselves while looking at Leon with even more sympathy and contempt.

They knew that it was probably just the beginning because of the influence that Sullivan Enterprises would almost surely spell doom for Leon’s future!

All of a sudden, a loud screech of braking vehicles was heard.

An extended, modified version of an intimidating Rolls-Royce, followed by two black Mercedes-Benz, stopped right outside the Civil Records Office.

The door of the Rolls-Royce opened, and a beautiful, tall, and graceful 23- or 24-year-old woman stepped out of the car. There was a certain air of elegance to her character.

Behind that glamorous woman were six bodyguards.

Each of the bodyguards had a strong figure and sharp eyes. At a glance, one could immediately tell that they were all top-notch combat trainees.

“My God, it’s Iris!”

“The woman who ranked first among the top four beautiful women in Springfield City! It’s Iris, the Youngs’ eldest daughter!”

A few people recognized who that beautiful woman was and could not help but exclaim out loud.

Iris was not a public figure, and not many people have seen her with their own eyes.

However, her reputation preceded her, for she was the Youngs’ jewel and one of the four widely-acclaimed damsels in Springfield City.

As soon as someone in the crowd revealed Iris’s identity, everyone immediately realized that this glamorous and noble beauty in front of them was the goddess that many of Springfield City’s men yearned for.

“They say that Iris never had a boyfriend and has always been single. Why would she come to the Civil Records Office today?”

“Has she already gotten a boyfriend? Does she plan to get married?”

Everyone had a curious look on their face, and as soon as there were whispers that Iris’s purpose there was probably to collect her marriage certificate, all the men present seemed to feel heartbroken.

At the same time, the jealousy in every man’s heart was soaring out of control, for they all wondered who was the lucky chap that Iris the goddess took a fancy to!

Iris ignored everyone’s luminous gaze, walked into the hall, and headed straight in Brody’s direction.

Brody’s face was flushed, and his heart was pounding with excitement.

He was the eldest young master of Sullivan Enterprises and a well-known figure in the business circle. It was only natural that he met Iris before.

He was blown out of the water the first time he saw Iris, and he subsequently enshrined her as the goddess in his dreams!

However, the Youngs were the most powerful family in Springfield City, with an influence that encompassed the military, politics, and business.

They were therefore much stronger than Sullivan Enterprises and were eons ahead of the latter.

Even though Brody’s heart yearned for Iris, he did not dare to pursue her.

After all, he was not qualified to do so!

To his surprise, however, Iris took the initiative to walk over to him, which excited him so much that he completely lost his cool!

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 6

“Miss Young, are you here to speak with me…”

Brody greeted her ingratiatingly like a pug wagging its tail, only stopping short of kneeling and licking her feet.

Iris did not even look at Brody and glanced past him to look at Leon. As soon as she laid eyes on him, a hint of anticipation appeared on her cold and pretty face.

She spared no effort in trying to find Leon the past night, for she firmly believed that Leon was still alive!

That b*stard of a man was not allowed to die so easily after copping a feel from her.

With that determination in mind, she availed herself of the Youngs’ resources that morning to get every single detail about Leon. She eventually found out about Leon’s plans to divorce Marilyn.

As a result, she immediately rushed to the Civil Records Office to see if she could find Leon.

Sure enough, she saw someone resembling Leon curling up on the ground while hugging his head. She was unable to see his appearance clearly, and she could not confirm whether he was indeed who she looked for!

The two bodyguards stopped beating Leon because Iris was there.

Leon looked up after sensing the slight change in the atmosphere. Lo and behold, the first thing he saw was Iris’s limpid and emotion-filled eyes.

“Iris? It’s you!”

Leon stood up in bewilderment because he did not expect to see Iris so soon.

Iris looked at Leon with a conflicted expression. Although she felt very emotional, a part of her wanted to restrain those emotions. Her urge to scold that rascal for feeling her up was strong, but there was no denying that he saved her life.

In the end, Iris’s delicate body trembled, and tears welled up in her eyes like an overflowing river.

Unable to hold back her emotions any longer, she threw herself right into Leon’s arms.

“Umm…”

Leon was dumbfounded.

Brody, Marilyn, and Helen were all just as stupefied to see what happened.

Everyone present there was speechless too!

They never dreamed that Iris—the woman who ranked first among four of Springfield City’s most beautiful woman—would take the initiative to embrace that sorry excuse of a man!

It was shocking!

Furthermore, many of those present there regarded Leon as a useless person after Brody snatched away his wife, and they had only contempt for Leon.

The roles were reversed, however, and they were the ones that made fools of themselves!

The man whom they all viewed as worthless trash was able to win over Iris, the number one goddess yearned for by all men in Springfield City!

They looked at Leon with maddening jealousy and wanted nothing more than to end his life!

If looks could kill, Leon would have been dead 10,000 times over!

When Leon snapped out of his senses, he immediately helped Iris out of his arms and said, “Iris? Why are you here?”

“I’m here for you…”

There was a faint blush on Iris’s pretty face, but as soon as she saw a smear of blood dripping from the corner of Leon’s mouth, she cast away all thoughts about reminiscing with Leon. She reached out to touch the wound on the corner of Leon’s mouth, and her pretty face became somewhat icy. “How did you get that on your face, Leon? Who hurt you?”

“I…”

Leon glanced subconsciously at Brody.

“You did this, Brody?”

Iris was angry and she shot Brody a cold look.

She did a thorough investigation of Leon’s background and knew that his wife Marilyn cheated on him with Brody.

Brody ruined Leon’s marriage and threatened to end the latter’s life!

It was utterly disgraceful!

Brody shuddered, and Marilyn stepped forward before he could answer.

“Who the hell are you? How dare you talk to my husband like that! Do you know who he is? He’s is the eldest young master of Sullivan Enterprises!” Marilyn scolded arrogantly.

She never saw Iris before and had no idea who Iris was.

All she knew was that Iris’s looks rivaled hers in every way, so much so that Iris turned a lot of heads after making an entrance.

Marilyn was jealous and dissatisfied.

“Are you Leon’s wife, Marilyn?”

Iris smiled and immediately guessed Marilyn’s identity.

“I am! Or rather, I was! I’ve divorced him! He’s a good-for-nothing beggar and judging from the way you threw yourself into his arms like he was some kind of treasure, you must be just as useless as him too!”

Marilyn sneered, but before she could continue, she was slapped.

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 8

Brody soon got up from the ground in dismay. He looked exceptionally miserable with a blue nose and a swollen face.

“Impossible! Iris is the Youngs’ eldest young lady! She’s a very respected person. None of Springfield City’s rich and powerful young men ever caught her attention, so how did a piece of trash like Leon do it!”

“Maybe the two of them just happened to know each other…”

Brody covered his face and groaned in pain.

Iris was a goddess in his eyes, contrasting strongly with his low impression of Leon. He would sooner die than believe that there was a special relationship between Leon and Iris!

“You’re right! Iris couldn’t have taken a liking to him unless she’s blind… But on second thought, even if Iris was blind, she’d never fancy some garbage like him!”

Marilyn smiled disdainfully, and his heart became felt a little more at ease.

“Who cares what kind of relationship they have?! It’s all Leon’s fault that this happened to me. I’m going to get back at him for this!”

Brody had a resentful look on his face.

He could not afford to provoke the Youngs and was afraid of holding a grudge against Iris too.

As a result, he blamed everything on Leon!

The surrounding bystanders could not help but look down in disdain when they saw how shameless Brody and Marilyn were.

Everyone saw how Leon persuaded Iris into letting Brody go.

Brody, however, did not show any gratitude and resented Leon instead!

It was simply too shameless!

Unfortunately, the Sullivans were powerful, and all that the others could do was despise him silently without saying it to his face.

Leon was left with nothing after getting a divorce from Marilyn.

He had no belongings, and the most important necessity for him at the moment was a place to stay.

The Sovereign Hotel was one of the most luxurious five-star hotels in all of Springfield City, and Iris planned to have him settle down there for the time being. She could also ask him the exact details of what happened the previous night.

When they arrived at the hotel, Iris motioned for her bodyguards to wait outside while she took Leon in.

“Welcome to The Sovereign Hotel,” two attendants smile professionally to welcome them.

When Leon walked on the hotel’s red carpet, he looked around and was shocked by how splendid and luxurious the decor was.

He never stepped foot in a place as high-end as a five-star hotel, and he could not help but feel a little uncomfortable to be there.

Furthermore, his tattered clothes were a stark contrast with the hotel.

He took each step with caution for he was worried that his shoes might stain the hotel’s high-end red carpet.

“Hold it! This is a high-end hotel. Beggars aren’t allowed to enter! Shoo! Beg somewhere else!”

There came a youngish 27- or 28-year-old woman who was dressed in a supervisor’s uniform.

She put on an attitude of superiority and yelled harshly at the two attendants who greeted Iris and Leon. “What’s wrong with you two? Are you blind? How could you let a beggar in?!”

“Who are you calling a beggar?” Iris was startled and did not know how to respond for a moment.

Moments later, she saw the supervisor walk up to Leon before pointing at him. “Get out of here, you miserable beggar!” the supervisor yelled, stopping short of actually shoving him out.

Leon already felt ashamed of himself, to begin with, and his face turned red as soon as the supervisor scolded him. How he wished he could just burrow into a hole in the ground!

Iris understood what happened and her pretty face immediately turned cold. She pushed the woman’s finger away and said, “You’re the one who’s blind. Does he look like a beggar to you? He’s my friend! We’re here to book a room…”

“Book a room?”

The supervisor looked disdainfully at Iris from head to toe. “You dress like a rich lady but you’re booking a room with a beggar? I suppose you’re the same as him then. Now get out of our hotel, both of you!”

Iris was furious. “Only mean people like you can say such things. Where’s your manager? Tell him to come out here and meet me!”

“Who do you think you are? What right do you have to ask for our manager?” the supervisor smiled contemptuously.

Iris trembled with anger. Had she not controlled herself for the sake of her identity, she would have slapped the supervisor in the face already.

The hotel staff were already alerted to the commotion there.

A young man about 36- or 37 years old rushed over as quickly as possible, and nametag that wrote ‘Lobby Manager – Wendell Dyer’ was pinned to his suit lapel.

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 9

“What’s going on, Cheryl? Tell me what happened!” Wendell asked.

“Cousin! You came at just the right time. These two beggars are causing trouble and it’s affecting our hotel’s image…”

The supervisor pointed at Iris and Leon with a contemptuous expression.

Wendell looked in the direction of Cheryl’s finger and immediately saw Iris.

His first glance elicited awe, for he was captivated by Iris’s beautiful face and noble temperament.

On his second glance, his expression changed greatly, and beads of cold sweat began appearing on his forehead!

Iris seldom appeared in public, and few of those who were not within the circle of rich or powerful individuals knew what she looked like.

Wendell was never qualified to know Iris, but since the Youngs’ business spanned many industries, they would usually entertain VIP guests or major customers of the company by arranging a stay for them at The Sovereign Hotel.

It was by sheer fortune that Wendell was able to meet Iris once before, so he knew Iris’s identity at a glance!

At this moment, Wendell was so frightened that his legs went weak, and he almost fell to his knees.

She was not the kind of person he could afford to offend.

“Where’s security? Somebody, call security! Is this how you do your job in this hotel? Aren’t you going to hurry up and chase those two beggars away!” Cheryl went so far as to start yelling like nobody’s business.

“Enough!”

A furious Wendell slapped her.

Following that crisp slap, Cheryl staggered and fell onto the ground.

“W-w-w-why did you slap me?”

Cheryl covered her cheek with one hand and was stunned by that slap.

“You dimwit! Do you know who this is? This is Iris Young! The Youngs’ eldest young lady!”

Wendell glared at Cheryl fiercely and he went to chew Cheryl out!

Cheryl was his distant cousin, which led her to bully some of the lower-ranked attendants in the hotel because she was connected to him by blood.

He turned a blind eye to her transgressions for the sake of their relatives, but Cheryl caused some serious trouble by provoking Iris!

Given the Youngs’ influence in Springfield City, he would be made to suffer alongside Cheryl if the matter was not handled well!

“She… She’s THE Iris Young?!”

Cheryl was dumbfounded.

She never saw Iris before but knew about Iris’s reputation rather well. She knew that Iris was the Youngs’ eldest young lady and was also the highest-acclaimed of four famous beauties in Springfield City!

Even if the Youngs did not come for her, Iris’s rich admirers would almost certainly rip her to shreds once they found out that she offended Iris.

Cheryl was so frightened that her knees went weak. She knelt immediately and started begging for mercy.

“Miss Young, I’m sorry for not knowing who you were earlier. I didn’t mean to offend you. Please find it in your heart to forgive me, rather than take offense with someone like me who is beneath you…”

Cheryl shivered with fright and continued to beg for mercy.

Wendell’s heart sank when he saw Iris’s expressionless face. He scolded her sharply, “Slap yourself!”

Cheryl hesitated for a moment but eventually gritted her teeth and started slapping herself. She continued to slap herself even harder as she said, “I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry…”

She slapped herself with each apology until the corners of her mouth started to bleed.

“Apologize to my friend!” Iris ordered coldly.

“Of course, of course… I’m sorry, Sir. I was wrong…”

Cheryl did not seem to care anymore that Leon was a beggar and immediately knelt in front of him to apologize.

Leon was startled and felt a little overwhelmed.

In the past, his daily routine was divided between staying at home and working at the company. He never went anywhere else.

He never even heard about the four beauties of Springfield City, let alone the Youngs.

He also had no idea that the Youngs were an influential family, and he had no clue as to how formidable the Youngs were.

All he knew was that Iris ordered her bodyguards to beat Brody senseless at the Civil Records Office.

Then there was also Cheryl, who was so frightened after knowing Iris’s true identity that she knelt and began begging for mercy.

Those two incidents led him to postulate that the Youngs must be a rich and powerful family.

There was no doubt that Leon felt Iris up quite a bit the previous night, but Iris seemed to have acted as if none of that happened, causing Leon to wonder why that was the case…

The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 10

Leon let his imagination run wild for a moment but made sure to snap himself out as soon as possible.

He walked over to Iris and tugged her arm while whispering, “Forget about her, Iris. I’m used to this treatment anyway…”

Iris felt an ache in her heart. She could feel the bitterness and helplessness in Leon’s words, along with a subtle hint of his inferiority complex.

“Miss Young, this is entirely Cheryl’s fault. I’ll discipline her in due time. Please give her another chance to learn from her mistakes,” Wendell pleaded sincerely.

His hatred toward Cheryl started to manifest. He needed to make sure that Cheryl did not continue acting like that in the future. She might have been let off the hook on that occasion, but allowing her to continue with her shenanigans would eventually spell doom for him too!

“Get up! Since my friend has elected to forgive you, I will agree to give you one more chance. I hope you’ll learn to shape up in the future!” Iris snorted coldly.

She was capable of forgiving when the situation called for it.

After all, she never liked using her identity to oppress others, and she did not want to argue with some insignificant people.

“Thank you, Miss Young. Thank you, Sir…”

Cheryl was finally brave enough to stand up, for she felt as if she was just granted a pardon. However, the clothes on her back were already soaked in cold sweat.

Many of the guests there were alarmed.

When they found out that the noble and beautiful woman in front of them was Iris, they all had a look of surprise as their eyes glowed with a fiery light.

Many of them secretly took out their cell phones to snap some pictures, as they hoped to get Iris’s beautiful appearance on camera.

“Let’s go, Leon…”

Iris quickly realized that something was wrong and immediately pulled Leon out of the hotel.

Hotels were tricky places because it was somewhat inappropriate to book a room there with Leon. It would only be detrimental for both of them should any misunderstanding or rumor begin to circulate.

It went without saying that she had a clear conscience and therefore had nothing to fear, but many of her suitors were children of the rich and powerful.

A misunderstanding involving such issues would easily cause unnecessary trouble to Leon.

That was the last thing Iris wanted to see.

Dragonbay Villas was one of the most famous, upscale villas in Springfield City. Mountains and rivers surrounded the area and blessed it with exceptionally beautiful scenery.

Those who could afford to live there had to be rich and famous, muses of business tycoons, or those whose reputations were synonymous with elegance and luxury.

Iris bought two sets of high-end clothes for Leon at a nearby mall before returning to the villa with Leon.

“I don’t think it’s prudent to be booking a hotel room for you to stay in. You can stay at my place for a couple of days and I’ll buy you a house tomorrow. You can move into your new home once the formalities are done.”

Iris had a slight blush on her pretty face.

As someone who always kept herself chaste, she never once allowed a member of the opposite gender into her residence before, much less invite them to stay overnight.

Be that as it may, she made an exception to bring Leon home to thank him for his life-saving grace.

Of course, the only reason she trusted Leon so much was that he saved her life the previous night. That integrity alone convinced her that Leon was not a bad person.

“Thank you, but you don’t have to buy me a house…”

Leon waved his hands.

He then realized that his words could easily be misconstrued to imply that he wanted to stay at Iris’s house forever.

“That’s not what I meant… What I mean to say was, I’ll be grateful enough if you find a place where I can rent. I’ll return the money you spent on my rent when I’ve earned some money…” Leon said with an awkward smile.

Iris smiled in return and did not take his words to heart. She took out an ID card and returned it to him, saying, “Here’s your ID card. My men found it in the garbage dump, which got me thinking about why it was there in the first place.”

“You’re a lifesaver!”

Leon was overjoyed as he took the ID card.

He had no money at all, but having an ID card meant that he could find a job as soon as possible to ensure that his most basic needs in life were met.

Leon’s face turned red when he thought back to how his ID card ended up in the garbage dump. He was embarrassed to tell Iris how pitiful of a life he had when he was married, so he explained everything without going too much into detail.
