Ch. 31..40
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 31
Donald was Joseph’s distant nephew, and the company only employed him to become the head of security
because Joseph was the one who brought him in.
It was understood that he would never disobey Joseph’s
order.
“Damn you! How dare you lay a finger on my uncle!
You’re dead meat! Fellas, smack this kid and beat the crap out of him! I’ll take responsibility if he kicks the bucket today!” Donald shouted angrily. He took out the rubber baton he carried with him and took the lead to deliver a barrage of attacks on Leon.
The other security guards also pulled out their rubber batons and rushed violently toward Leon.
“Be careful!”
Lily was rattled by the sight of what happened.
It was because Leon wanted to help her that the conflict with Leon happened.
Now that the situation was out of control, she became
anxious and had no idea what to do.
Donald was once well-known as a hired thug, and he had no problem going against five or six people and coming out unscathed. He previously did time for beating a
person up so bad that they ended up crippled, and he spent two years in jail before Joseph got him out.
“How stupid can he be to offend Mister Conrad? Knowing Donald’s violent tendencies, that kid will be severely injured by the end of this!”
The sound of repeated whacking resounded through the air as the rubber batons struck Leon’s body like raindrops during a storm. Leon hugged his head and groaned in endless pain. He initially decided to just endure the pain for a while because he was the one who first laid his hand
on Joseph. Unfortunately, the strikes became increasingly vicious, for they aimed at his tender areas as well as his lower body. There seemed to be no doubt that they intended to cripple him.
As if being beaten up was not bad enough, they had every intention of obliterating Leon’s manhood as well! Leon could not bear to have that happen.
To that end, he stretched his hand in search of something to grab and immediately managed to grasp a rubber baton that one of the guards held. Then, he delivered a kick to the security guard’s chest.
“Arrgh……
||
The kick sent him flying, and he let out a scream before crashing into the wall behind him and falling heavily onto the ground.
“Darn you! How dare you fight back! Oh, you’re asking
for it!”
Donald started gritting his teeth with rage and raised the rubber baton to whack Leon’s head.
He was prepared to use all his strength, and his uncle’s. voice even urged him from behind, “Kill him! I’ll bear the consequences if he dies!”
If that strike were to land on Leon, the least that would happen to him was a cracked skull!
“It’s over…”
Lily’s pretty face turned pale. She could not bear to see Leon’s tragic end and closed her eyes in despair.
At that critical juncture, Leon raised his left arm to block the rubber baton, which nearly dislocated as a result.
Credit was due to Leon’s physique because any ordinary person would have suffered a broken arm if they were to shield themselves from the attack. Failure to protect. oneself would result in a concussion at best, and death or
near-death at worst.
“Don’t blame me for giving you an eye for an eye!”
Leon threw a right hook and landed a strong punch on Donald’s cheek.
Two of Donald’s bloody teeth flew out of his mouth. Before he could even react to what happened, Leon followed up with a thumping kick on his chest.
The impact was very strong, and Donald flew through the air like a line-broken kite. He spat out several mouthfuls of blood after landing on the ground, and it was clear that his injury was much more severe than Joseph’s.
Joseph shouted viciously, “Why are you guys just standing there? Hit him. I already assured you I’ll bear the consequences!”
The remaining four security guards flew into a rage and attacked even more ruthlessly. They raised their rubber batons high to strike the joints and tender areas on
Leon’s body.
Their attacks came so quickly and Leon decided that he was better off ignoring the barrage rather than shielding against every single one. He attacked them back in a frenzy, dealing punches and kicks at random.
In less than ten seconds, the four security guards were defeated by Leon’s hands and collapsed to the ground all
at once.
“How…”
Everyone, including Joseph and Lily, were dumbfounded.
They could never have dreamed that such a skinny twig like Leon could defeat Donald and five other capable security guards.
Furthermore, none of Donald’s injuries seemed to be minor. There were fractures all over and he vomited
blood. He did not even have the strength to stand up and simply slumped on the ground.
On the other hand, Leon stood tall, as if none of the injuries earlier were a problem to him.
“You’ve got balls, Kid, but being good at fighting doesn’t count for anything! Everything that you did, including injuring the company’s security guards, is a gross violation of the company’s rules and regulations! You are hereby fired! Now get the hell out of my face!” Joseph lambasted with a ferocious look on his face.
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 32
Donald might have failed to get revenge on Joseph’s behalf, but the latter could still get one last chance to vent his anger by chasing Leon out of the company.
To top it off, Leon would lose the company’s protection and intervention if he was fired, thus paving the way for Joseph to call the police and have Leon arrested.
“You? Firing me? As if you have the authority!”
Leon glared coldly at Joseph and walked slowly toward
him.
“What are you doing? I’m warning you! D-d-don’t you dare come any closer…”
Joseph continued to back away and a bad feeling rose faintly from his heart.
“I have this urge to beat you up again because looking at you is pissing me off!” Leon sneered.
The situation went so far past the point of no return that there was nothing for him to be scared of anymore.
It would feel so good if he could teach Joseph a lesson and vent all that anger on the man.
After all, Leon clearly remembered that Joseph wanted him dead.
He believed that everything would be worth it even if he damaged his reputation in Iris’s eyes and she kicked him out of the company.
“How dare you…”
Joseph’s expression changed dramatically. His first instinct was to escape, but alas, there was nowhere for him to go.
“Stop right there!” a cold voice ordered just as Leon. raised his fist and was about to deal a blow to Joseph.
Ariel entered in her high heels.
“Miss Summers! Thank heavens you came! Hurry up and help me…”
Joseph rejoiced and rushed up to Ariel at once.
“What in the world just happened, Mister Conrad? What’s with this mess?!”
Ariel’s expression soured to the extreme as she looked at the cluttered floor and the six injured security guards.
“Well, you see, it all started with Leon. He…” Joseph pointed at Leon and gave a brief rundown of what
happened, but he conveniently omitted the fact that he bullied Lily and deliberately made the situation difficult for Leon.
“What? You did all this, Leon?”
Ariel was stunned and she looked incredulously at Leon.
The previous motorcycle incident gave her the
impression that Leon was a sissy, so one could imagine her surprise when she heard that the person whom she thought was a sissy knocked down six strong security guards all by herself!
That would be quite a show of bravery!
‘Just my type!’ A twinkle appeared in Ariel’s eyes.
Joseph was a little puzzled. Ariel looked at Leon with a pissed-off expression when she first came, but oddly enough, she seemed to be excited for a reason after he explained everything to her.
“Yes. I did all this. But I won’t take all the blame for this. Mister Conrad made his subordinate uncomfortable and forced his degenerate impulses on-”
Leon began to explain what happened in detail, but Joseph interrupted him and said, “He’s lying! Miss Cameron and I were discussing work inside the office. I have no intention of pressuring her into doing anything she doesn’t want to do. It’s all a big fat lie! Go ahead and ask her now! She’ll tell you whether or not I’m lying!”
Leon smiled coldly.
Joseph still tried to be stubborn, but that would soon end when Lily exposes his lies!
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 33
Lily trembled uncontrollably, for she knew that Joseph held a high position in the company. Even if she told the truth, the most Ariel could do to Joseph was reprimand him, and it was not like any severe action would be taken against him.
Things would only go south from then on because Joseph would almost certainly exercise his authority to fire her!
Lily began to hesitate when she thought about her sick mother on the hospital bed, her younger brother’s tuition fees, and the high hopes all her relatives placed on her.
“Go on. Tell me,” Ariel urged.
“I… Mister Conrad and I were just discussing work in the office. He didn’t do anything inappropriate…” It was challenging for Lily to say that. She lowered her head the entire time and did not dare to look at Leon.
Despite her eternal gratitude to Leon for saving her, the burden of being fired was too heavy a consequence for her to bear. There was nothing else she could do other than apologize to Leon in her heart.
“Huh?”
Her statement was like a bolt from the blue for Leon and his smile instantly disappeared.
He could never imagine that Lily would be the one to dismiss his kind gesture even though he risked it all just to save her!
“You heard that, didn’t you, Miss Summers? He’s making wild accusations against me!”
Joseph smiled smugly.
“This was all your doing then, Leon! Iri- Ahem, the company has rules and regulations that you must comply with. It’s not a place where you can just do whatever you want!” Ariel chided.
Iris just reminded Leon to do his job well, yet it took him no time to rely on Iris’s backing to oppress other people!
‘We can’t just let this go on. If worse comes to worst and he gets fired, I’ll just take him in and raise him myself,’ Ariel thought.
“That’s not what happened, Miss Summers. Please let me expl-“Leon glanced angrily at Lily and felt a sour twinge in his heart.
What Lily gave him that day was a very vivid lesson that forced him to realize the cruel reality of society!
“Enough, I don’t want to hear your arguments!” Ariel interrupted Leon’s words with a wave of her hand and did not take kindly to his vile conduct.
“Now that the truth has come to light, it’s clear that Leon
committed a serious violation of the company’s rules and regulations, in addition to injuring several of our people. It’s only right that he should be fired immediately…” Joseph said coldly.
“This was all just a minor misunderstanding. Leon will apologize to you and the matter will be put to rest!” Ariel said curtly.
Leon was yet to answer when Joseph expressed his unhappiness. “Just an apology? That’s not enough! He hit me and injured me! And you’re just going to overlook all that as long as he apologizes to me? I won’t accept it!”
Ariel glanced intently at Joseph. “What do you want then?
||
“I want him fired and handed over to the police!” Joseph demanded.
“Mister Conrad, while there’s no denying that you’re injured, Leon’s hand is injured too. This situation went out of control, and you-as the head of the president’s department—are responsible to some extent as well. I’ll ask Leon to apologize, so just accept his apology for my sake. Shake hands with him, make peace, and just let bygones be bygones! As for your injury and medical expenses, the company will bear the full cost.”
Ariel frowned and said in a negotiating tone.
She knew that Leon was Iris’s savior, so even if it was all Leon’s fault, Iris would never fire him, much less agree to
hand him over to the police!
Besides, Leon was not all to blame for what happened, because Joseph indisputably instructed the security
guards to beat Leon up.
Leon only wounded them out of self-defense.
With the situation coming to a head, both parties were equally responsible.
Ariel wanted to mediate the situation to downplay the whole issue and resolve it quickly.
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 34
“I’ve made it very clear that I won’t accept it! Are you deliberately trying to protect this kid, Miss Summers?” Joseph’s expression sank. He insisted on handing Leon over to the police because that was the only way he could douse the burning flames of anger in his heart!
Ariel was irritated by Joseph’s unrelenting insistence. Mister Conrad, I’ve repeatedly discussed this with you in an amicable manner and treated you with the utmost respect and dignity. Please don’t cross the line!”
“Leon is Iri- I mean, my friend! The point is, this matter is now behind us regardless of whether or not you agree!”
Ariel was a little annoyed, more so because it was that time of the month. As a result, she could care less about whether or not it would cause an uproar.
Sure enough, her remark carried a different meaning when everyone else heard it.
“I
The onlookers began to gossip as soon as Ariel said that.
“I get it now!”
זיי
guess it’s no surprise then that this kid was brave enough to challenge Mister Conrad. Who would’ve thought that he was one of Miss Summers’s people!”
“Time to get the popcorn out!”
Everyone was taken aback by what they heard and started chatting with each other the next second. No one
expected Leon to be good at fighting, much less have a strong backer like Ariel!
The situation became even more complicated as a result.
“Bravo, Ariel! I see that you’re trying to use your
authority to put me down! You might be the president’s assistant, but I’m not some pushover that you can just mess with! You and I are equals, and you can’t be more delusional if you think you have any control over me!”
Joseph was furious. Though his authority was indeed inferior to Ariel’s, his status was at least on par with hers.
Other people might be afraid of Ariel, but not him!
“Are you done with your nonsense? Let this be my warning to you, Joseph: my patience is limited, so don’t push your luck any further!” Ariel shot back icily.
“Don’t try and scare me, Ariel. I don’t buy any of your threats! I know that you and the president are close. You don’t need to hide it! She’s the kind to know right from wrong, and she always draws a clear boundary when it comes to matters of personal and professional nature! This kid right here has seriously violated the company’s rules and regulations, and if you insist on covering for him, then don’t blame me for reporting your abuse of
power to her! When she eventually decides that you are at fault, I guarantee that you’ll be the one to bear the
consequences!” Joseph sneered and laced his words with threats.
“Ungrateful, much! If you think you’ve got what it takes, you’re more than welcome to report this incident to her. But allow me to remind you that there’s nothing in it for you if this incident rattles the president!” Ariel sneered.
“You brought this upon yourself! I don’t believe everything you said, and I’m quite certain that the president won’t be as fond of this kid as you are!” Joseph laughed despite his anger.
While he acknowledged that he was no match for Ariel, he knew that he would not gain a firm footing in the
company if he could not deal with a pesky colleague like Ariel!
“Suit yourself, birdbrain! Let’s go, Leon!” Ariel snorted coldly, turned around, and brought Leon away without looking back.
“You’ve all seen how Ariel abused her power to cover up for that, right? You’re all witnesses, so come with me to see the president!”
Joseph rallied everyone to join him as he charged angrily into the president’s office.
He knew very well that Ariel’s behavior made her liable to be suspected of abusing her power. Iris would never
protect Ariel when it came to matters of justice and integrity, and certainly not an insignificant little pest like Leon!
Inside the president’s office, Iris sat at her desk with some work.
Leon, Joseph, and the rest of the people rushed over one after another.
Iris was startled to see Leon’s disheveled look and injured hand. She got up and walked over to him. “What
happened to you, Leon?”
“Miss Young, Leon has committed grave acts of
insubordination, even going so far as to injure me and several of our security guards. You have to do something…
Joseph did not wait for Leon to answer and played the victim while giving a brief explanation of what happened.
“Is that true, Leon?”
Iris’s delicate expression sank and she turned her sharp gaze toward Leon.
She just warned Leon to focus on performing his duties, but in response, he turned the entire president’s department upside down as soon as he reported back!
Who would expect Iris to smile at him after what
happened?
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 35
“That wasn’t what happened. Mister Conrad was the one who made advances on his subordinate…”
Leon had a bitter look on his face as he retold the story, but he remained incredibly uneasy because it would be difficult to win Iris’s trust if Lily were to side with Joseph.
“That is outright slander, Miss Young! Miss Cameron and I were discussing work at that time. She can vouch for me…” Joseph rushed to defend himself.
“Is Mister Conrad telling the truth, Miss Cameron?”
Iris gestured for Lily to come up to her.
“Yes…”
Lily lowered her head. She was afraid to make eye contact with Iris, and most of all, Leon.
“Do you have anything else to say, Leon?” Iris looked calmly at Leon.
“I… No.”
Leon sighed. He felt despair that was beyond words.
Iris was both pissed and amused that Leon drooped his head like a defeated rooster.
The difference between herself and Ariel was that she
understood Leon’s character better.
Leon might not have any talent or ability, but he had a morally honest character. As someone who was steadfast in his convictions and brave enough to accept
responsibility, he would never stoop so low as to become a deceitful and petty person.
Even though Lily vouched for Joseph, Iris still believed Leon more.
Such was her trust in Leon!
“Raise your head, Miss Cameron!”
Iris turned to Lily.
Lily did not dare to disobey her and immediately looked up to meet Iris’s gaze.
“Look into my eyes! I’ll give you one last chance to answer. Who’s telling the truth? Is it Leon or Mister Conrad?”
–
Iris directed her sharp gaze right at Lily’s eyes, and that- along with her ever – dignified imposingness -left Lily feeling heavily pressured.
“It’s Jo-”
Lily opened her mouth to answer and insisted on
repeating her previous answer. However, Iris’s gaze was so sharp that it made Lily feel guilty to continue the rest of her answer.
Joseph’s heart skipped a beat and he had a vague bad
feeling. Leon already admitted that there was nothing more to say, which made it all the more confusing as to why Iris continued to ask that question.
“Miss Young, Leon has already admitted that he—” Joseph hurriedly interrupted.
“Shut up! I’m asking Miss Cameron. Not you!” Iris lambasted.
Joseph trembled uncontrollably and did not dare to talk any more.
“You need to be able to live with your conscience, Miss Cameron! Now touch your heart and tell me the truth!”
Iris looked at Lily coldly and her domineeringly cold aura was even more oppressive.
“I…”
Lily touched her heart with one hand. She was already very guilty to begin with, so as soon as she felt the beating of her heart through the palm of her hand, her fragile mental fortitude collapsed in an instant!
“I’m sorry, Miss Young. I lied… It was Mister Conrad who abused his power to bully me, and Mister Wolf was the one who saved me. The only reason I helped Mister Conrad accuse Mister Wolf was because I was afraid of losing my job…”
Lily knelt in front of Iris with a thud. Tears soon began gushing out like a broken dam and she almost lost her breath in between sobs. It was truly a sad and pitiful sight.
“So, you two worked together to falsely accuse Leon!”
Ariel was dumbfounded. She believed Joseph’s lies and even thought that Leon was the bad guy here.
Reality gave Ariel a tight slap on her face though, because that old man was actually stringing her along the entire time! She was a little peeved as a result because that
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 36
“So, you were the one who started it, Joseph!”
Iris flew into a rage and stared fiercely at Joseph.
Joseph never dreamed that things would come to that point, and his face turned ashen in the blink of an eye!
Nevertheless, he regained his composure rather quickly thanks to his wealth of experience in facing intimidating individuals!
“Miss Young, the fact that Miss Cameron retracted her statement all of a sudden even though she already vouched for my story earlier is a clear sign that nothing she says is credible! You’ve always handled everything with objectivity as our company’s president, so how could you be sure of my guilt based on merely a few one-sided remarks from Miss Cameron?” Joseph argued.
“Is that so hard for you to accept?”
Iris smiled, albeit with a hint of iciness.
“You’re damn right it is! I’m one of the company’s old- timers, and during the past few years, I’ve worked so hard for the company without even taking any credit for it! This kid, on the other hand, is a newbie secretary! He’s insignificant! And besides, his silence amounts to an
admission of guilt. It boggles me why you trust him so
much more than you trust me!” Joseph argued with logic.
“Why? Oh, I’ll tell you why. It’s because he risked his life. to save me two days ago! He’s my savior! He nearly died when he tried to save me, so who do you think I should trust more?”
Iris sneered and dropped a bombshell.
“What? He’s… your savior? But how? How’s that possible!
Joseph was so dumbstruck that he merely stood there as if he was struck by lightning.
He knew that Iris did not show up for work at the
company two days ago, and from what he heard, she was kidnapped by some thugs but was fortunate enough to escape after being rescued soon after.
It was not until then that he realized who was it that saved Iris- It was none other than Leon, the scrawny secretary standing before him!
“I… Now I get it…”
After Joseph recovered from the shock, his face turned ashen and he slumped to the ground.
Ariel warned him time and again that nothing good was in store for him if he brought the situation up with Iris!
At that time, he thought that Ariel was merely fear- mongering him in her attempt to protect Leon!
It was too little too late as he finally understood that the real backer behind Leon was Iris instead of Ariel!
There was no surprise then that Ariel would protect Leon, because Iris was also doing the same whether
intentionally or unintentionally!
With Iris owing her life to Leon, Joseph’s move to frame him was practically the same as signing off on his execution warrant!
“You’ve abused your powers as a leader in the president’s department by acting inappropriately toward Miss
Cameron and even made wrongful accusations against Leon. This is a disgrace of the highest order, Joseph! You can pack your things and leave right this moment because you’re now fired!” Iris announced coldly.
“No, please… I admit my mistake, Miss Young. I’m begging you. Please have mercy on me and give me another chance…”
Joseph’s face was pale, and he no longer had the confidence he earlier had. He knelt with a thud and kowtowed for mercy repeatedly.
He was an executive of the company that had genuine authority, and he served for many years with the
company. The amount of hard work and effort he put in to get to where he was unimaginable, and he could not accept a punishment as severe as being fired!
Besides, the business world in Springfield City was
neither too big nor too small, and there would be an inevitable blot on one’s career if a company executive of his level was fired on the grounds of abhorrent behavior. Finding a similar executive job in the future would very likely be an uphill task.
“Leave! Now! Security, please escort Joseph and Donald out of the company building!” Iris commanded coldly.
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 37
“Understood!”
The security guards that were beaten by Leon brewed with anger earlier, and after knowing that Joseph was the one at fault, they immediately channeled all their anger on Joseph.
They all grabbed Joseph and Donald and dragged them forcibly like a dog being dragged to be euthanized!
Upon seeing that scene, Lily’s emotions were all over the place and she had difficulty trying to calm herself down.
She never dreamed that Leon would be Iris’s savior, and she was even more surprised when Iris unhesitatingly fired a company executive like Joseph to give Leon justice!
If she knew that Leon had such capability and backing, she would have ignored her fear of Joseph and refrained from helping him frame Leon!
It was such a shame that she realized it a little too late!
“I’m sorry, Mister Wolf. I’m sorry for not repaying your kindness even though you saved me… I now know that I was wrong, and I wish to sincerely apologize to you…”
Lily felt so overcome with guilt and regret that she bowed deeply to Leon and apologized sincerely.
Leon snorted coldly and turned his head to ignore her.
Lily knew that her actions hurt Leon deeply, and she did not expect Leon’s immediate forgiveness. She then turned her head and bowed to Iris, saying, “I’m sorry, Miss Young. I’ll send my resignation letter to the human resources department and resign willingly…
There was nothing but bitterness on Lily’s face. She did not feel the least bit happy even though Joseph, the man who acted inappropriately toward her, was fired.
Her ungratefulness in response to Leon’s help was
extremely reprehensible. She lost her dignity completely and felt ashamed to face Leon.
Moreover, Leon was also Iris’s savior, and Lily’s atrocious act would surely make it impossible for Iris to let her remain with the company!
“Forget about it! I said that I’d give you one last chance, so I’ll keep to my word! No mortal is without fault, and since you repented before it was too late, I will forgive you this once!” Iris said calmly and magnanimously.
Lily’s behavior might have crossed the line, but she was a victim after all. Iris was willing to give Lily a chance to change for the better on account of how the latter came back on the right path in the end.
“Does that mean…you’re willing to let me stay? Is that… true?”
Lily was stunned and could not believe what happened.
“Yes! I hope you’ll take this incident as a warning not to do something like that again in the future!” Iris nodded.
“Thank you, Miss Young, thank you… I promise I’ll take your advice to heart from now and I’ll do my best to live up to your expectations…”
Lily was so touched that tears of joy welled up in her eyes. She then bowed to Iris again and again as a sign of gratitude.
“Alright, you may go back to your desk!” Iris smile.
Lily hesitated for a moment, but she eventually gathered up her courage and walked up to Leon.
“Mister Wolf, thank you for saving me…”
Lily’s face turned red and she bowed deeply to Leon. Then, she turned around and left in a hurry, as she no longer dared to face Leon anymore.
Soon, Leon, Iris, and Ariel were the only ones left in the office.
“I’m sorry that I blamed you for what happened earlier, Leon. I hope you don’t take offense…” Ariel hesitated for a moment before gritting her teeth and apologizing to
Leon.
“It’s fine. I understand,” Leon said with a smile.
“Well, look at what you did, Leon! You got rid of the top figure in the president’s department on your first day at work! I wonder what else is going to happen if you’re allowed to continue working in the company!”
Iris came over and shot Leon an angry look.
Leon’s heart was beating rapidly.
“Joseph might be capable to some extent, but his character is questionable and our company has no place for scumbags like him! That said, your approach is rather ill-suited, and the ruckus that you caused will almost certainly have some negative impact on the company! I’ll forgive you this once because it was unintentional, but let there not be a second time or I won’t forgive you so easily again!” Iris raised her little fair-skinned fist at him and said angrily, but she only did so as a warning instead of being angry.
“Don’t worry, I’ll listen to whatever you say as long as you don’t get angry at me.
For Leon, seeing Iris not angry was more important than anything else!
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 38
“Mind your conduct!”
Iris rolled her eyes charmingly at Leon and saw the wound on his palm. Concerned, she asked, “How’s the wound on your hand, by the way? We have an infirmary here in our company. Let me bring you there.”
Leon hesitated for a moment because the injury on his hand was just a skin injury and it was nothing serious.
Then again, getting the wound cleaned up at the
infirmary would be beneficial in preventing the wound from getting infected.
“You have a pile of work waiting for you after your absence from the office yesterday. Let me bring him to the infirmary instead!”
Ariel took the initiative to offer her help.
“You?”
Iris glanced strangely at Ariel. If she remembered correctly, Ariel seemed to be quite unhappy with Leon because of what happened earlier that morning.
Furthermore, Ariel was a very proud woman who
generally ignored most men, so it was rather unexpected of her to take the initiative and offer to help bring Leon to
the infirmary.
“I believe Joseph’s lie at the expense of misunderstanding Leon, so I’d like to bring him to the infirmary as my way of apologizing to him…”
Ariel blushed slightly because Iris’s gaze made her feel a little uncomfortable.
“Sure, you can bring him there then.”
Iris smiled and did not think too much about it.
Leon got his wound cleaned and bandaged at the infirmary before returning to the president’s office.
Since Joseph was fired from the company, Iris reassigned another executive to oversee the operations at the president’s department.
He was a middle-aged 40-something man by the name of Shane Flanagan; he would later become the head of the president’s department.
There was a total of three secretaries in the department: Leon, Lily, and a young woman named Gracie Woodall.
Gracie was in her early 30s and served the company for more than three years. Clad in a charcoal business suit and rimless eyeglasses, she gave off the aura of a sharp- witted and experienced individual.
Shane arranged for Leon to work under Gracie and learn some of the work basics from her.
Leon paid full attention to Gracie’s careful guidance and an afternoon passed in the blink of an eye.
When it was time to get off work, Leon was in a buoyant
mood as his mind was filled with thoughts of Iris’s
beauty. He made his way to the parking lot while humming a random song.
“Wait up, Mister Wolf…” a crisp voice came from behind.
It was Lily, who trotted over from afar with a flush face.
“Is something the matter, Miss Cameron?”
Leon frowned and glanced unhappily at Lily. He did not take kindly to Lily anymore after her ungrateful behavior earlier.
“I’m sorry for what I said earlier. It was all my fault. I’d like to apologize to you…” Lily bowed to Leon.
“You don’t need to apologize again. You’ve already done so in the office,” Leon said indifferently.
“I know that, but I genuinely hope to receive your forgiveness…” Lily bit her lip. Her mind was a complete mess all afternoon, and she continued to feel ill at ease. because she was trying to figure out a way to get Leon’s forgiveness.
“It’s in the past, so whether or not I forgive you is no longer an issue!”
Leon scoffed at her plea. He was no saint, and anyone
who experienced what she did to him would surely find it difficult to just forgive her.
Lily gritted her teeth and knelt in front of Leon with a thud.
Leon was startled, and he immediately stepped forward to help Lily up. “Miss Cameron, what are you doing? Get up!”
Lily shook her head and refused. “Mister Wolf, please just listen to me. I didn’t mean to make things difficult for
you…
“My father disappeared from home when I was very young, and it was my mother who worked hard all on her own to raise me and my brother…
“She was admitted to the hospital a few months ago due to being overworked, and that incurred a huge amount in monthly medical expenses…
“My brother has just been admitted to Springfield University this year and needs tuition and living
expenses…
“This job is very important to me. I was scared of losing my job, and I only helped Mister Conrad to frame you because my mind was a mess at that moment…
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 39
Lily burst into tears. Her expression was ridden with remorse and guilt.
Leon was shocked, for he did not expect Lily to have such a sad backstory.
As an orphan since young, his experience was not much better than that of Lily. He had an intimate
understanding of how Lily felt, and he was also familiar with the kind of despair and helplessness she faced when encountering difficulties…
They were both born in unlucky circumstances!
Leon felt tremendously relieved at that moment, having understood and sympathized with Lily’s predicament.
It was already after-hours, so the situation on Leon and Lily’s side immediately attracted the attention of many of their colleagues.
“Look!”
“That woman who’s kneeling on the ground is Lily, right? The president’s secretary? Who’s the man she’s kneeling for, though?”
“Beats me. I’ve never seen him before.”
“That’s weird. What are they doing?”
The bystanders gossiped with each other while looking at Leon and Lily with strange expressions.
Leon was startled by what went on. He did not want to be the center of attention, so he demanded right away, “Get up, Miss Cameron!”
“No, I won’t get up if you won’t forgive me…” Lily insisted.
“Okay, okay. I forgive you! Could you get up now? Let’s leave this place first and talk elsewhere!”
Leon helped Lily up as quickly as he could and fled the
scene.
Lily smiled. Tears might be streaming down her face, but she felt very happy.
She could finally feel a sense of relief now that Leon finally forgave her.
Leon brought Lily to the company’s parking lot.
“How do you get to and from work, Miss Cameron? Do you drive or take a taxi?” Leon asked a little hesitantly.
“I take public transport sometimes, but I sometimes use QR codes for ride-sharing.” Lily blushed.
The company allocated a certain amount of monthly reimbursement for taxis, but the cost of hailing a taxi was
too expensive and she wanted to save as much as possible.
“Where do you live? I’ll send you back on my motorcycle! “Leon pointed awkwardly at the pink motorcycle in front of him.
There was no denying that the motorcycle had a tacky color, and it was not something that he was proud of.
“This… is yours?”
Lily was stunned and could not help herself from bursting out in laughter. “This color is really pretty…”
“My friend gave it to me, so I’m driving it for the time. being…”
Leon laughed dryly, he already expected Lily to have that kind of reaction, and his guess turned out to be spot on.
Fortunately, he could take it in good stride as Lily did not intend to ridicule him.
“Hop on and I’ll send you home.”
“Umm… I don’t think it’s appropriate…” Lily was a little hesitant as she never brought someone of the opposite gender home before.
Worse still, being seen on a motorcycle together with him would open her up to all sorts of misunderstandings.
“I’m not trying to hit on you or anything. I just want to visit your sick mother. I have little medical skills, so I was hoping I could help,” Leon said with a smile.
By inheriting the memories that his ancestors passed down to him the previous night, he obtained much.
medical knowledge that gave him a new understanding of medicine and medical skills.
“You have medical skills? You’re not pulling my leg, are you?” Lily was surprised.
“I do, but not much. So, don’t put too much hope on me. I’m just going to pay her a short visit on the off chance. that I might be able to gain some insight into her
condition and provide you with some useful advice.” Leon shrugged.
His medical knowledge was still rather shallow, and there was no guarantee that he could put that knowledge to use. All he wanted to do was help Lily out of sympathy for
her.
“That’d be great! Thank you…” Lily nodded excitedly.
Her mother was admitted to the hospital several months now and the illness still showed no signs of improvement.
She previously asked the doctor if her mother’s situation was alright, but the doctor’s answer was always very
vague.
If Leon did have medical knowledge, then she could at least ask for some pertinent advice from him.
After Leon and Lily got onto the motorcycle, Leon started the motorcycle and rode it out of the company.
The Ex-Husband’s Revenge chapter 40
During the journey to send Lily back, vehicles and
pedestrians filled the road to the brim because they were in the middle of rush hour when everyone was getting off work.
When he reached an intersection at a traffic light, Leon had to brake suddenly to avoid the pedestrians. Her soft bosom bumped against his back and a wonderful sensation began coursing through his body.
Leon was stunned and immediately realized that Lily’s chest was in intimate contact with his back. Although their skin was separated through thin clothes, he could feel the size of her supple bosom!
A red flush appeared on Lily’s cheeks within a split second, and she tried to move back as much as possible to try and maintain a gap from Leon.
Inertia had other plans for her though. The more she leaned back, the more forcefully her bosom bumped into Leon’s back whenever he had to brake.
Leon did not think much about it at first, but there was no denying that he was a normal man with strong vigor.
As the frequency of braking and bosom-bumping
increased, no amount of concentration could control the budding emergence of his arousal!
He never thought that riding a motorcycle with a woman would be so amazing!
It would be even better if he had the opportunity to bring Iris for a ride sometime in the future…
Leon’s excitement grew with every passing thought, and it was the first time he truly understood the wonders of riding a motorcycle!
He previously shunned that motorcycle a little after Ariel teased him for being a sissy, and he even gave some thought to whether or not he should replace it.
However, the experience of bringing a woman as a passenger led him to change his mind, and he would sooner kill himself than replace it!
He was eagerly hoping to one day bring Iris for a ride on that motorcycle!
Leon was immersed in his fantasies throughout the journey, while Lily blushed bashfully by the time they reached the hospital.
“Miss Cameron, do you know if there are any pharmacies nearby? And whether they sell any disinfectant ?” Leon asked, taking the lead to get rid of the awkward
atmosphere between them.
“This is a hospital, so there is one just diagonally
opposite from here. They should have some there.” Lily gradually regained her composure.
Leon nodded. After going to the pharmacy to buy some special disinfectant, they went back to the hospital with that and some fruit that they bought from a roadside stall.
When they reached one of the wards upstairs, Leon followed Lily there and met Lily’s mother Serena Plumer.
Serena was weak and she was half-lying on the hospital bed.
Next to her sat a young boy that was about 18 or 19 years old- He was Lily’s younger brother Jared.
Since it was still summer break and school did not
officially start yet, Jared would go to the hospital outside of his work-study program hours and take turns with Lily to take care of their mother.
“Lily, you’re back!” Jared stood up with a smile and was surprised to see Leon next to Lily. “Who’s this?”
“Oh, let me introduce you to each other. This is Leon Wolf, one of my colleagues in the company. Mister Wolf, this is my younger brother Jared.”
Lily smiled and briefly introduced them to each other. “A colleague?”
Jared looked at Leon, then at Lily, and seemed to a
sudden realization. He then teased Lily by whispering in Lily’s ear, “He’s your boyfriend, isn’t he?”
Lily’s pretty face turned red and she shot Jared a glare. ”
Jared! Don’t just shoot your mouth off like that! He’s just a colleague.”
“Oh, is he? Then why haven’t you brought your other colleagues here before!”
Jared had a look of disbelief. He understood his sister’s character very well and knew that she was a relatively introverted person and seldom interacted with members of the opposite gender.
Leon was the only person Lily brought to visit their mother hinting at a relationship that was more than just a colleague!
