To his demise, Nicholas was telling the truth and he immediately dialed the general manager’s number. However, Alex snatched the phone out of Nicholas’ hands and said, “You’re the general manager of Sunshine Co.? I’m just calling to tell you that the acquisition of your company is not approved.”
“What? Why?”
The person on the other end of the line, the true general manager of the Sunshine Co, started panicking. He had put in a lot of effort into convincing Lush Cosmetics to take over their company.
This was because he just wanted it to be done as quickly as possible, or his company would go bankrupt. He wouldn’t even be able to pay his employees’ salaries. If they stalled for another month or so, the bank would force them to pay back their loans.
Not only would they go bankrupt, the directors would have to pay the debts back with their own money and property as well.
He had to make sure that the acquisition was perfect and successful.
Alex replied. “Why? Because I found out just how unreliable your company is. You switch managers from time to time. Even a person like Chad Hunter could become a manager. Well, that will be all, we just called to inform you this. Ciao.”
Both Heather and Chad went silent.
‘What just happened?’
After a brief while, Heather cackled. “Oh lord, I’m dying of laughter! You two have to get an acting career or it would be a loss for America! You two have to partner up in an act! It would be an amazing show, I just know it! Hah, we called just to inform you? Did you actually think you’re some boss of a large corporation? I’d reckon you never made a call, it was all a bluff! Be careful, or lightning might strike when you lie too much!”

Just then, Chad’s phone started ringing.
He looked at his phone screen and realized that it was a call from his uncle, Douglas Hunter. His heart dropped to his stomach.
Chad knew that Douglas was the actual general manager of Sunshine Co.. He only bluffed in front of Heather a while ago.
‘If Uncle is calling me now, does that mean this punk had actually called him?’
He took a glance at Nicholas, but didn’t dare to not answer his uncle’s call.
After picking it up, he said respectfully, “Uncle…”
Right after that, a loud and harsh scolding came from the other line. “Chad, you f*cking piece of shit! What are you trying to pull out there? Have you offended someone? You better kneel before Mr. Hudson and the people in front of you and beg for forgiveness so they would reconsider acquiring Sunshine Co.! If you don’t, I’d break both your legs! You know I’m a man of my word!”
“U-Uncle, you… You’re joking, right?”
“Who the f*ck has the time to joke around with you? Give me your location right now! I’ll be there as fast as I possibly can!”
Chad was shocked. He knew his uncle’s temper well it was true that he was just as cruel to family when he’s mad.
‘If he said he’d break my legs, he’d actually do it.’
After Chad told him his location, Douglas hung up immediately.
Chad choked as he turned to look at Nicholas and Alex. He stuttered. “W-Who are you people?”
At that moment, Chloe was done being a mere spectator and spoke up. “Mr. Hunter, you may not know this, but the acquisition of Sunshine Co. has not been approved yet. There’s another corporation competing against you. But it seems that Sunshine Co. has no chance against them now.”
Heather was shocked. “Chloe, how did you know about this?”
Chloe relied. “Aunt, do you know where I’m currently working at?”
Heather had no idea and turned to look at her sister, Scarlett.
Scarlett said, “Chloe’s working in Lush Cosmetics.”
Heather’s mouth was agape. “Lush Cosmetics? Is it the Lush Cosmetics that had Daya in their commercials?”
Chloe nodded. “Yep!”
Heather’s eyes widened. “Really? But that’s Lush Cosmetics! A bottle of their cream sells for hundreds of thousands! You actually work there? Wait, but what does this have to do with Sunshine Co.?”
Chloe shook her head. “It does. Lush Cosmetics is the company that was hoping to acquire their company. The inspector of Sunshine Co. is my boyfriend. And this man… He’s Alex Rockefeller, my boss and the young director of Lush Cosmetics.”
The formal introduction shocked Heather and Chad to their core.
Scarlett and her husband were so shocked that they stood up as well, not knowing where to place their hands. They didn’t expect their daughter’s boss to attend her birthday celebration.
Twenty minutes later, a man rushed over hurriedly. Without hesitation, he slapped Chad across the face. “You bastard! Kneel down right now!”

The person who had arrived was Douglas.
As if a slap wasn’t enough, he started punching Chad until his face swelled up.
“Kneel down!
“Apologize!”
“Or I’ll break both of your legs!”
Douglas seemed to be very energetic as his eyes glistened while he beat his nephew mercilessly. His punches were enough to knock two of Chad’s teeth out and give him a nosebleed.
Chad was kicked in the knees and made to kneel even if he didn’t want to.
This was enough to scare Adrien and his whole family. The family of three were just normal citizens, Adrien was just a normal worker of some hardware store. He was only able to become the leader of his team with a salary of five thousand dollars per month, just enough to provide for the family in a big city in Michigan.
Scarlett, on the other hand, was just a janitor for an accounting firm, so her salary was much lower.
This was why the two would usually be cautious at all times. They would never want to provoke or offend anyone.
They were just too poor to even argue with others, worried that they might accidentally offend some rich and powerful figure. So, the couple had never seen such gory scenes which caused them to jump up from fear and try to stop the two men in panic.
Heather, on the other hand, felt sheer terror in her heart. She realized that she had made a grave mistake. She really didn’t expect her niece to invite the boss of Lush Cosmetics and the decision maker for the acquisition of Sunshine Co.
The only reason she introduced Chad to Chloe was because she had reaped benefits from him.
Heather was a woman that loved gambling, and she would gamble with quite a lot of money as well. Just a while ago, she had lost way too much money on just one game. Not only had she lost all her savings, she even took a loan for another 500 thousand.
If she couldn’t pay it back within a week, they would take her house away. She knew that her husband would get mad at her if that were to happen.
So, she remembered her beautiful niece. She started boasting about how gorgeous her niece is to Chad, saying that she could set them up together.
She was basically selling her own niece out, knowing that she would have to bear serious consequences if Chad were to expose their trade.
Chloe, however, had faced different types of scenarios before, so she was used to this. She pulled her parents aside, telling them not to interrupt. She whispered. “Mr. Rockefeller is here, so don’t worry.”
The two looked at their calm daughter and back to Nicholas and Alex. Their presence alone calmed them down and they felt proud of their daughter.
Thud!
After Chad fell to his knees, he stuttered out an apology.
“S-Sorry, I… I was wrong!”
Nicholas’ mouth curved into a grin, extremely satisfied with the outcome. This was a rare opportunity to him.
He signalled towards Alex. “Don’t apologize to me, you should apologize to my bro. He’s the decision maker for the acquisition of your company.”
Chad feared his uncle the most in his entire family, he didn’t dare to show any arrogance or anger but immediately knelt before Alex and apologized.
But Douglas didn’t know who Alex was. He was confused, unable to understand what was happening. He looked at Alex and turned to Nicholas. “Mr. Hudson, sorry but your bro is…”
Nicholas was proud. “My bro Rockefeller is the boss of Lush Cosmetics.”
Douglas was shocked, apologizing to Alex politely. “Ah, so it’s Mr. Rockefeller, I’m sorry I didn’t realize sooner. I apologize for the trouble that my stupid nephew had caused you as well. This brat never knows what he should do with his useless life, so you can hit him however you like. Even if you beat him to death, I won’t object one bit!”
Alex had been silent ever since Douglas entered the apartment, his eyes glistened as he stared at the middle-aged man.

He finally spoke, nonchalantly. “Your stupid nephew didn’t really offend me. He just came here to court my bro’s girlfriend. He even tried using a thirty eight thousand necklace to provoke my bro, what a joke.”

Douglas kicked Chad on his bottom, sending his face smashing to the ground before scolding him. “You bastard! Have you forgotten your family name just because you have a little damn cash? If your father didn’t die early, I would’ve broken both your legs ages ago!”
Chad was crying hysterically as he pointed towards Heather. “Uncle, this woman was the one who approached me first, saying that she’d sell her niece to me… Well, I’m not married yet, so I’m just trying to bear a child and help keep my family bloodline! For Dad!”
Chloe frowned upon hearing this. “Sell me to you? How much did she take?”
Chad started stammering, hesitant to speak.
However, Douglas slapped him right across the face again. “Say it!”
Chad replied, “I gave her 300 thousand! And once I’ve slept with you, I agreed to give her another 300 thousand!”
Adrien and Scarlett exploded from anger.
Adrien immediately rushed up to Heather and slapped her three times across her face. Although he was a kind man, he was definitely scarier than most when he gets mad.
Scarlett rushed over as well, scratching Heather’s face and yelled. “Well, aren’t you just the best, Heather? I treat you like family, but you dare sell my daughter? How inhumane can you be? Chloe is your niece and you sold her for 600 thousand dollars? What makes you think you can do that?”
“Sis, Brother-in-law, stop! I took 500 thousand dollars from loan sharks, loan sharks I tell you! If I can’t pay them back within a week, they will take my house away! I can’t let my husband know about this. He would divorce me for sure. And it’s not like Chad’s a bad guy! Oh, please stop!”
But Adrien was not done releasing his anger yet. He slapped her again and yelled. “Get lost! You’re no longer family to us, you scum! Get lost I say!”
“Fine, fine! I’ll leave now, okay?!” Heather ran off right after being kicked out.
Chloe even had to comfort her parents and ease their anger.
Alex had been staring at Douglas, seemingly becoming more curious about the man.
He had noticed that this man wasn’t just like the average person. There seemed to be a mystical energy within him. The Narra bracelet on him was a mystical tool as well.
However, there seemed to be a light hint of Yin energy within him as well.
This man actually beat Chad up until his face was swollen because of something so small. He even humbled himself down so much, which didn’t match his status one bit.
But despite his humble attitude, he was very hot tempered towards his own nephew.
Alex waved his hands. “Mr. Hudson, do you need money urgently?”
This was the only reason Alex could think of.
Douglas looked at Alex and nodded. “I’ll be frank with you, Mr. Rockefeller. I’ve been stumped in my business, and I wouldn’t be able to pay my employees salaries if this goes on. More importantly, my daughter… I need to pay for her expensive hospital bills. I’m not saying this to earn your sympathy, but Sunshine Co. really is being sold at a fairly reasonable price.”
Alex asked, “What’s your daughter diagnosed with?”
“Uhm…” Douglas was hesitant, then shook his head. “The doctor said they can’t seem to put their finger on it.”
Alex nodded as he tapped the table. “Can I see your daughter?”
“Huh?” Douglas couldn’t understand what he meant.
Alex smiled. “Mr. Hudson, let’s step away for a bit and have a talk.”
Nicholas was surprised, but he decided not to ask.
Once outside, Alex smiled sarcastically and asked, “Mr. Hudson, you’re not just a normal businessman, are you? Are you heavily involved in grave goods?”
