Ch. 196..200: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 196-200

Chapter 196: Chapter 196 – Congratulations, you are expecting twins!

"So, you think he’s making an empty promise?"

Sabrina went quiet for a while.

She discerned that her father was doing it to protect her but then again, it will never push him to lie to the world.

After the deep silence, she acknowledged,

"My dad never makes empty promises."

Robin smiled. Her honest perception of her father was an advantage to him,

"Then he has the money. The fact that you don’t know doesn’t mean he doesn’t," he tried to imprint it in her head, so she wouldn’t suspect his help.

"Is the press conference over?" Sabrina asked, wanting to speak to her father to clear the mist in the air.

It would be terrible for her to perceive anything in her mind which might turn out differently in the end.

Suddenly, light shone in her eyes and she felt an exceeding joy that they wouldn’t have to succumb to Martin and she could have enough money to retrieve the shares if her father agreed to the fact that he indeed have the money.

"I think so but what would you eat?" Robin asked seriously.

He had to make sure that she was well nourished in her condition since such news swallowed her appetite.

As expected, she responded,

"I’m not hungry."

Robin smiled politely, saying,

"As your friend, I insist. I will ask your favorite chef to bring you lunch whilst the doctor performs his checks."

He made a few calls to order lunch for three before calling the doctor over to check on her.

"There’s no course for alarm. You fainted because of the shock but now, even your blood pressure is normal and since your antenatal is in two days, I requested for the labs to cover it," the doctor was explaining when Robin cut in and asked,

"So, she doesn’t have to come again in two days?"

"No. her lab results are fine and if the scan is okay too, then her next appointment will be in four weeks. She will be discharged when she completes her IVs and that also, depends on the scan," the doctor smiled and said when they heard a knock on the door.

Matilda went to get it only to receive so much food from a delivery man. The chef could not come himself since he was making preparations for Sabrina’s dinner to be delivered to her house.

"Since you are about to have lunch, we can have the scan after but that will be in my office," the doctor said and Robin thanked her, before encouraging Sabrina to eat.

"Dear one, you should eat for the sake of our growing baby in your womb."

Sabrina smiled a little. Even if she did not have the appetite because of the news, she had to do it for the sake of her unborn child.

The three of them ate together before Robin went to the doctor’s office with Sabrina for the scan after she completed her IVs.

His eyes were glued to the LED screen the whole time while the doctor smiled and announced,

"Congratulations, you are expecting twins!"

Robin felt his heart jump out of his chest and the next moment, he flung himself over Sabrina, hugging her tightly while happy tears fell from his eyes.

Guilt and remorse filled his heart at the remembrance of how he readily allowed Sabrina to leave with his twins without putting up a fight for her and choosing Zayla, the gold digger with only mushrooms in her belly.

Robin could not forgive himself though he had seen Zayla in weeks, not caring how she was faring.

However, he had daily updates from the driver he assigned to her that she was still at the penthouse.

Robin had just a few days remaining to execute his plans since Sabrina’s birthday was just in a few days and everything was ready.

He even invited the general, who agreed to come.

Sabrina stiffened at his action since the news was already overwhelming for her.

Now she is going to have two children with her ex-husband.

Once she was desperate for just a child, hoping that it would make Robin happy so he’d stay at home.

She took the pregnancy test almost every day when she stopped going to the hospital to check due to the continuous negative result.

Who would have thought that the day her prayers for carrying Robin’s child was answered would be the end of her marriage to him?

At those thoughts, her countenance was cold.

The tightness of Robin’s embrace made her uncomfortable, and she began to wiggle.

He regained himself and quickly pulled away,

"I’m very sorry. It won’t happen again."

When he saw no emotions in her eyes, his heart sank.

He knew that she was not happy to carry his children but neither could he blame her.

Whereas, he would spend the rest of his life trying to make it up to her.

No matter what happens, he was not going to give up on her. He turned to the doctor.

"You are invited to her birthday party this weekend at the crystal hotel."

The doctor smiled and did not refuse since she was lucky to have Saturday off from her work schedule.

"I won’t miss it and I will see you here in four weeks. I have also changed her vitamins so you can get them for her at the pharmacy."

"Sure," Robin smiled and said when the doctor said to Sabrina again,

"Twin pregnancies can be more difficult than normal ones. Please, should you feel any discomfort whatsoever, don’t hesitate to come to the hospital."

Sabrina forced a smile and unconsciously rubbed her little bump,

"Yes doctor."

When they stepped out of the ward, Robin said to her,

"You could come to work at my office or even relax there."

He felt that her office might be traumatizing for her at the moment because of what happened there but Sabrina wanted to be away from him.

"No. I would rather go home. Matilda will keep me company."

"Isn’t she supposed to be in school?" Robin asked since Matilda had started culinary school.

Sabrina felt guilty to be the reason why she missed class but Matilda was already there, which meant that she sacrificed her class for her.

"Well, she’s already here."

"Alright, I will take you both home but I will come again in the evening for our usual evening walk," Robin reminded her but Sabrina looked at the time and refused.

"You have work to do. Please make it tomorrow."

Robin was not happy but agreed. He had wanted to keep her company since the news about the twins was not so pleasing to her but it was obvious that she didn’t want him around her.

He nodded his head in disappointment before driving them to the mansion and bidding them goodbye.

Suddenly, he remembered that he left Daniel in his office and sped there.

Right when he arrived at the reception, he was blinded by the pain of a hard punch to his face.

"Robin Jewel, you said you could protect my sister so how come this happened to her?"

Chapter 197: [Bonus Chapter]Chapter 197 – How it all happened

Robin took his time, allowing the pain to sip through his body, anger airing around him.

Aria was about to call security, feeling that her boss was in trouble.

The next moment, Robin returned the punch twice, Devin was on the floor, horrified.

He never expected that Robin would have the nerve to return the punch and was surprised to receive a double.

Shame could not allow him to get up, as Aria chuckled a little while Robin raged,

"How can I protect her when you are protecting the criminal?"

’Protecting the criminal?’ Devin was confused.

"No one knows how the document got to her office. The cameras captured nothing and you claim you are protecting her?" He managed to rise to his feet. "You are so full of yourself, Robin. I would never have allowed this to happen if you had not forced yourself into her life.

Robin was so upset he did not want to exchange words with another fool.

"Get out of my office."

"I’m not leaving until you promise to excuse yourself from her life forever," Devin yelled, not caring about anyone around, whether they were staff or visitors.

For Robin to excuse himself permanently from Sabrina’s life?

"That would never happen."

"You are the one who failed your promise. You could not protect her," Devin raged, looking for any opportunity to attack Robin again but not getting any loops.

Robin retorted calmly,

"And you are the one protecting the criminal so get out if you don’t have anything sensible to say."

Devin calmed down and turned around as if he was ready to leave.

Seeing him headed to the elevator, Robin gasped and turned around when Devin lunged toward him.

"Sir, behind you!" Aria yelled, Robin turned around in time, pushing Devin by the chest, he fell again since Robin’s defense was unexpected and he did it before Devin could attack.

Devin growled from pain, as he had not recovered from the two punches.

Blood was dripping down his nose and his mouth was already swollen.

Robin bent over, ready to release punches when Devin asked,

"What are you talking about? I know no criminal."

Robin’s hands froze in the air, and he lowered them.

For the sake of Sabrina, he didn’t want to hurt Devin too much anyway.

"So, who gave your sister the document to sign?" He asked calmly before adding, "If you want to talk, then act civilly and not like an animal or I will treat you as such."

Devin caught something since he had nothing all along, leading to his frustration.

"You know who gave her the documents?" He asked in shock, wondering how Robin knew when Devin couldn’t get that information from all the CCTV cameras in and around Sabrina’s office.

Robin held out his hand to help him from the floor, saying,

"If you are willing to behave, then come inside and I will tell you but if not, then get out!"

His hand was held out and Devin knew that if he grabbed hold of it, then it meant that he had to humble himself or even trust whatever Robin was going to tell him.

Remembering Martin’s declaration that he now owned the JCs Devin wanted to know how it happened since Martin had refused to answer his calls.

As such, he stretched his hand and joined it to that of Robin, the latter pulled him from the floor.

"Aria, please get him a towel," Robin said when Devin wiped the blood dripping from his nose with the back of his wrist.

"Yes sir," Aria said and left for the store room to get the towel.

When they entered Robin’s office, Daniel was surprised to see Devin but before he could ask, Robin instructed,

"Please let’s see the video."

Daniel played the video on his laptop. He had gotten everything together including the audio, and worked on the size to be able to get it onto the phone as well.

In a nutshell, Daniel was prepared to launch it viral.

Sabrina was busy on her laptop but lifted her head and smiled at the sight of Martin.

Watching the video, Robin was jealous since she never smiled at him like that before. She even stood up and hugged Martin.

"How are you, Sabrina?"

"Good, and you?"

"Fine."

"So, what brings you here?" She sipped her tea and asked after returning to her chair.

"I was in the neighborhood and thought to come and say hi. Is that bouquet from Robin?" Martin pointed at a bouquet on Sabrina’s right-hand side.

Sabrina turned in the direction where she kept the bouquet and Martin asked again,

"Did you dye your hair?"

"How?" Her attention got divided as she tried to see what Martin was talking about.

"This side looks brownish." Martin pointed at the back.

"I can’t see," she turned her face to the side, at the same time Martin stretched his and dropped something in her tea."

"Oh, it’s the reflection of the light," Martin said apologetically and Sabrina sipped her tea again.

"Should I get you coffee? Tea?" She asked.

"No, I will soon be living. Like I said, I just came to say hi."

Sabrina began to feel dizzy, pouring more tea from her teapot into the cup.

She sipped again and again when Martin said,

"Can you sign this document? I’m buying some assets and need a witness."

Sabrina’s eyes were hazy and she was seeing blurrily.

"An asset? Okay."

"Just sign here," Martin showed her and she did.

He brought out another document and skipped to the signature page.

"Sign here too."

"If there is more, please be fast. I want to sleep."

She signed all the portions before her head hit her desk.

Martin stood up, poured the remaining content in her teacup into the vase of her bouquet, and refilled the cup, too hasty to check the level.

He went around, pulled her drawer, and dropped one of the documents there before going to the door and opening it a little as if checking if anyone was there.

When he saw no one, he walked out and shut the door.

"Did you see that?" Robin asked at the same time Aria entered with the towel.

"Here you are, sir?"

Devin was so shocked, he felt dizzy and numb. No, perhaps he was not seeing right. He had to watch the video again, not caring about the blood anymore.

Taking the small white towel, he said to Aria,

"Thank you."

Then he turned to Robin and asked,

"I prefer to watch my face. Can I use your washroom?" He felt that if he washed his face, then he would be able to detect if he was seeing wrongly.

"It’s over there," Robin pointed at his small bedroom, forgetting the many portraits of him and Sabrina he had in there.

The moment Devin went in there, he froze.

Chapter 198: Chapter 198 - I will win her heart like a real man

Devin could not believe his eyes.

He even recognized some of the pictures whose backgrounds showed they were taken at events where Robin had Zayla tagging along.

Then Devin recognized again, the pictures which went viral because Robin was carrying Sabrina in his arms.

There were even pictures of Sabrina at the hospital and every party they attended where Robin was equally in attendance, scattered over the walls in the small bedroom and even at the bedside.

As a man who understood the language of love, Devin was confused.

Was Robin’s obsession with Sabrina before or after the divorce? He could not comprehend it

All along, he thought that Robin was in Sabrina’s life just because of the baby but some of these pictures were before Robin found out about Sabrina’s pregnancy.

It only meant that Robin was secretly in love with Sabrina, for which reason he was all possessive of her and kept causing trouble including preventing Martin from coming close to Sabrina.

"Robin, what do you call this room?" Devin gathered courage and asked, Robin froze.

He forgot all about the pictures, for which reason he allowed him in there.

He never wanted anyone apart from Daniel to know how he felt about Sabrina and it was not as if Devin was his friend.

He made a mistake in allowing him in there.

Hastening, Robin grabbed and pulled Devin out of the doorway by the arm, shut the door, and said,

"You can use any of the staff washrooms. Aria will show you."

It annoyed him that his secret was exposed and Devin would only find something more to mock him about.

For the first time in Devin’s life, he was moved with empathy for Robin but how could it make sense? What about Zayla, also, if Robin loved Sabrina, then why did he have so many whores?

The empathy he was feeling for Robin before began to wear off.

"I’ve already seen everything. Let me use this washroom."

Robin did not answer yes or no so Devin went in and opened the door to the washroom.

As the warm water cascaded down his face, his mind filled with thoughts about Martin.

They were best friends for ages so how could he do this? Devin wiped his face and when he came out, Aria was waiting with a first aid box as Robin instructed her.

After she applied the medication to Devin’s bruises and left, Devin asked Robin,

"For how long have you been in love with my sister?"

The fact that he did not see any picture of Zayla raised a big question mark as well.

Where was she in all this when she was the reason why Robin gave up on Sabrina?

"It’s not your business," Robin spats coldly, not willing to share anything about his love life with the likes of Devin.

"I still can’t understand why you can love a woman and be fucking others, care to explain that part to me?" Devin asked sarcastically Robin thought to ignore him when Daniel answered, saying,

"You don’t believe that people change, do you? We all make mistakes and all that Robin has been doing is trying to correct his mistakes."

"You are speaking for him because you also have an interest in Lizzy. I still don’t understand how you can be fucking a woman outside when you have one at home," Devin spoke in a mocking tone, Robin got upset.

Unable to hold in his anger, he yelled,

"Yes, I wanted to hurt her. I didn’t want her to feel any happiness because the marriage was forced." His voice turned teary, and his eyes reddened.

"I always felt something special for her but I thought it was wrong to feel that way about her when I only wanted to marry the woman who saved my life because I thought my life belonged to that woman."

Robin swallowed tightly and said again,

"I felt that why should I make her happy for the sacrifice of some other woman my father forcefully sent away?"

Devin was smart enough to understand his words, asking,

"So you thought that the woman who saved your life was Zayla?"

"The bitch told him before the transplant that she was going to give him her kidney so what did you expect him to think?" Daniel asked Devin on Robin’s behalf.

Devin’s empathy for Robin returned, stronger than before.

His hate for Robin was cleared because things were not the way they seemed.

Robin was fooled into believing that Zayla saved his life for which reason he was trying to do everything to make her happy when the woman he truly loved was Sabrina.

The analysis made Devin feel better, he found himself saying,

"I can help you to have her."

Robin shook his head. He already hurt Sabrina so much, he knew he had to make it up to her.

"I don’t need your help. I don’t need anyone’s help. I will win her heart like a real man. I won’t cut corners," he said earnestly, Devin shook his head.

"Then good luck. Sabrina is very lovely but also stubborn so can I see the video again?" He asked, Daniel answered,

"I already sent it to your phone."

Devin brought out his phone and after watching the video again, he smiled bitterly.

"I trusted him with my life and he did this to me." There were tears in his eyes.

"His sister..." Daniel was about to say that his sister was Mara when Robin shut him up.

"Don’t waste your breath. He won’t believe it if you tell him."

Devin stared at Robin worriedly, asking,

"I won’t believe what?"

"You have what you need so you can leave now," Robin said and began responding to emails from his bankers.

Luckily, half of the money had been moved and the rest would be transferred tomorrow.

He wanted Devin to go, so he could call Cobby to update him.

Devin buried his face in his palms while he sat on the visitor’s sofa like a lost child. Then it clicked.

If Robin was in love with Sabrina, then he wouldn’t watch their company go down.

Could he be the reason why his father said he had the money?

"Are you the one giving the money to my father?"

Chapter 199: Chapter 199 – I trusted you.

After asking the question, Devin wondered how his father managed to ask Robin for money.

It would be unlike him.

However, Robin had already prepared an answer for him.

"Your family has all the resources they need. My help is not needed and you can ask your father where he got the money from."

Devin nodded his head, making a mental note to ask his father when he reaches the mansion to pick up Matilda but there was one last thing on his mind,

"How did you get the video when I got nothing after accessing the footage? There was no record whatsoever, for which reason, I would not have believed that Martin did it."

Robin could not tell him about the secret cameras since they were illegal. He responded curtly,

"I have my ways of watching her back."

Devin could not help but be grateful to Robin once for his help.

If not, his eyes would have still been blinded to the evil in the heart of his best friend.

"Thank you. I have to go."

Robin did not prevent him from leaving, glad that he behaved like a human for the first time and they parted on a peaceful note.

He instantly dialed Cobby’s number and the latter answered it on the first ring.

"Robin, everything is successful but are you sure about the video?"

Kobby was still worried about the proof he promised the press for which reason he asked.

Robin smiled since Daniel already worked on it and said,

"I will send it to you now and you can watch it and call me back."

Cobby was so eager that he quickly responded,

"Okay."

Robin sent the video as soon as he ended the call and since it was a short one, Cobby called back in less than five minutes, sounding depressed.

"My poor girl. I’m happy that whatever he gave her did not have a negative effect on the pregnancy."

Cobby would not know what to do if that had happened.

Robin had even not thought about that aspect, regretting not punching Martin in the face some more when he went there.

"She’s even carrying twins," Robin revealed in a bitter tone.

Anyway, he was sure to send the video viral tomorrow. Whatever it took to recover those shares, he was sure to do it.

"Are you sure?" Cobby asked, seeming surprised.

"Yes, Dad. I feel so guilty for hurting her so much but her birthday is in a few days and I will see if I can correct my errors for just a little bit," Robin said sadly.

Cobby felt pity for him, knowing that he had indeed changed but Sabrina was the one who suffered everything.

Her father was not there to see the depth at which she suffered, for which reason Cobby felt like he did not have the right to convince Sabrina to return to him.

That was solely up to her. The only thing he could do was to encourage Robin to not give up.

"It’s better to try and fail than not to try at all."

Robin was grateful for Cobby’s fatherly role in his life and wished that his father was still alive.

This would have been the best time to make him proud.

"Thank you so what do you propose that we do to Martin?" Robin asked.

This did not involve him alone but Sabrina, Cobby, Devin, and even Lizzy since the company belonged to all of them.

Cobby went into deep thought. He was not afraid of Martin the way he was of Mara since she was the one who wanted Sabrina dead.

Her existence makes Cobby feel insecure.

Robin thought about the maids they tried to bribe to resign.

They won’t say how much they were paid but rejected every offer.

"I would prefer that we get Mara before doing anything to him. Who knows what that evil girl can do from wherever she is hiding?"

He and Daniel were still working on it, together with tracking her hacker.

Robin was sure to get something very soon since he was not going to give up until Mara was brought to justice.

"You have a point. Now you have proof and once you give us the go-ahead, we shall release it. Half of the money has also been transferred and the rest would be in the trust fund before you meet the press," Robin vividly explained his plans.

Cobby was moved by his thoughtfulness but then again, Robin has always been smart.

His only mistake was Zayla and women, from which he had also repented.

"I can’t say how grateful I am for your help but since I have the video, Devin would have enough reason to believe that his best friend is a fraud and might even be aware of Mara’s existence."

Mentioning Devin, Robin thought to let Cobby in on what had just transpired between them.

"He left my office a few minutes ago so he saw the video."

"He left your office? What was he doing there?" Cobby was both shocked and worried that Devin must have gone to cause trouble and Robin confirmed it for him.

"He came to teach me a lesson for not protecting Sabrina well enough and we got into a fight but everything has been resolved between us."

Cobby was confused and asked from his side of the line,

"What do you mean by resolved?"

Robin explained thoughtfully, "I mean to the point where he wants to help me win back my wife."

Cobby was surprised by his use of wife and not ex but did not point it out.

"Then that is good news. It means that he is beginning to trust you."

Robin smiled. "I am happy to win all your trust and I won’t stop until Sabrina believes me too," he vowed solemnly.

"I hope she does and take good care of yourself," Cobby said, ready to end the call when Robin responded,

"I will and you too. Goodbye."

***

When Devin left, he did not return to his office or penthouse, rather going to Martin’s office.

All the anger and pain were released when he bumped into Martin as soon as he opened his door.

From his reddened gaze, Martin knew there was trouble but he did not expect Devin to get physical when he was taken unawares by a kick to his stomach from Devin as he raged,

"You asshole, I trusted you."

Chapter 200: Chapter 200 - Because he changed into a better person

Martin was eager to go home to have a talk with Mara concerning the videos after what transpired between him and Robin since he did not want to be taken unawares.

Knowing Robin, the guy doesn’t make empty threats and Mara had a strong backing too.

As such Martin did not know whom to believe.

Also, he had to take the signed documents to her, so she’ll sign off the company to him.

His hands merely reached the door with the documents in a briefcase when a kick sent him staggering backward but his hand clutched tightly to the briefcase.

"You asshole, I trusted you,"

Devin raged, his eyes emitting fire. This was a friend he stood by all these years in trust and loyalty, going against his father and his fiancé for him.

A man he thought was the best suitor for his sister but he turned out to be a scumbag.

Martin staggered from the kick but did not fall. Pain flashed in his eyes but it was not from the kick, but rather the hurt of being misunderstood by Devin, his best friend.

He thought to explain.

"I’m only doing this for Sabrina. I want her to marry me. Isn’t this what we both wanted?"

Devin smiled devilishly. He was so furious, he pounced on Martin, punching him in the face three times, and he fell on his desk.

The briefcase equally fell from his hand and opened somehow, exposing the documents in there.

Martin did not try to protect or defend himself since he felt that he should have at least informed Devin about his plans, which he did not do because of Mara’s involvement.

He was quickly packing the documents into the briefcase when Devin caught sight of the similar one he saw in Sabrina’s office.

Before Martin reached it, Devin kicked his jaw, Martin bit his tongue, and flung over with blood oozing from his mouth when Devin bent over and picked up the almost twenty pages document.

"You drug my sister, lie to her, and make her sign some fucking documents because you want to marry her?"

Devin glared Martin in the eyes, loathe emitting from it, as he began to tear the documents into pieces and Martin’s heart sank with the shredding sound of each paper, tears burning in the back of his eyes.

There were only two of the original documents, with which he left one with Sabrina and this was the only copy he had which meant there was no documentation to prove that he had the shares.

Anger rose in his heart for having worked so hard and equally losing his best friend in vain.

Worse, Devin snarled, "I fucken hate you now."

Martin was so upset, wince he lost everything and roared,

"But that is the thing about you. Sabrina would never marry me without being pushed to the corner. Wasn’t it how she married Robin?"

Anger gave him the courage to face Devin since everything was now lost and he was back to square one.

He regretted not scanning a copy down instantly or giving it to his secretary to do so for him, all because he was afraid that they might have been bought over or something like how some of his maids confessed to somebody trying to pay them to quit their jobs.

For that reason, they demanded higher pay.

That information made it hard for Martin to trust anyone, fearing that they had been bought over but he was equally too busy with the press after making Sabrina sign the documents and forgot about scanning or making photocopies.

Devin was still shredding the remaining documents with his fingers, littering Martin’s luxury office whilst he snarled,

"My sister is not some commodity on the market for business exchange and from the way I look at it, Robin is a better choice for her."

Martin was emotionless at the comparison.

Devin, who hated Robin like a plague, was now preferring him as a suitable partner for Sabrina? Martin was lost for words, thinking to remind Devin,

"When he fucks every girl and even has another one pregnant for him?"

Devin frowned a little. Robin indeed had a bad history with women but then,

"Yes because at least my sister already knew he was a manwhore but still fell in love with him. As for you, you are a wolf in sheep’s clothing."

The analysis and comparison pierced Martin’s heart. He couldn’t blame Devin completely because this could have worked or not worked.

For instance, if Devin had not destroyed the documents and Mara had gotten them but refused to sign off the company to him, then she would be the owner of both JC Minerals and Clothing.

"Devin..."

"Don’t fucken call my name and just to let you know, you and I have nothing in common. Our friendship ends now," Devin spat coldly, dropping the last bit of the shredded document on the floor but all hope was not lost.

Martin was disappointed that Devin ended their friendship because he was indeed Martin’s only best friend.

Because of Mara, he never let a lot of people close and never wanted to lose Devin because of Sabrina.

At first, Sabrina called to end her friendship with him and now Devin but did it mean that Sabrina was going to remarry Robin, Martin did not want that to happen and thought to ask,

"So, you are going to let your sister get back with Robin. After all he did to her and all the humiliation, he caused her?"

Martin’s remorse was slowly fading away since he already lost everything but then, he remembered the snapshots of the documents he sent to Mara through her caretaker, Anna.

Also, Devin would not know that that is the original one so he could still use it to scare them until Sabrina succumbs and gets married to him.

However, Devin had already removed him from his heart as well.

"I’m gonna beg her to take him back, you know why?" He asked seriously, Martin shook his head miserably, and Devin said,

"Because he changed into a better person while you changed for the worse."
