Ch. 51..55: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 51-55
Chapter 51: Chapter 51 – He was upset because of the things she said about Sabrina.
"So, if Sabrina wanted to partner with you, would you agree?" Zayla blinked back her tears and asked. Robin did not know how to explain it anymore since her understanding of business was very shallow. He tried anyway.
"Zayla, JC Minerals is already making it. I haven’t researched them yet but from the way Sabrina was bent on selling jewelry, I could guess that their sales had dwindled. Now that it has picked up, any company would want to partner with them including me but I know that she would never want me near it."
As Zayla pondered over his explanation, her heart sank deeper and deeper. So, Robin would have loved to partner with Sabrina if she wanted to but not her father who was desperate for his help. As if she was just realizing it, she exclaimed in a dismayed tone,
"We are here now."
Robin was about to open the door but stopped and issued a warning, lest she took some secret photos or went to spurt some nonsense somewhere.
"Let’s go in but Zayla, an engagement ring is the furthest I’d go. I have too many things on my mind and marriage is the least of my concerns at the moment."
A tear dropped down Zayla’s cheek before she could fight it but quickly wiped it with the back of her hand. Robin was not a man moved by tears but by reason. She tried to show it was okay, for as long as he bought the ring for her.
"People get engaged for years before getting married."
Robin stilled a little, realizing that she did not understand the meaning of his words, and explained further, "And Zayla, there would be no engagement party."
Zayla’s mood after the understanding settled, was terrible but at least she was going to wear a ring Robin bought himself. That calmed the brewing storm in her heart. While they walked into the shop as the security personnel held the glass door for them, Robin was dismayed at Zayla’s choice of a jewelry shop but did not utter it.
He also ensured to not show any form of physical contact as he would have done before.
"Hi, Miss Chance, I’m glad you are here to return the ring on time and Mr. Jewel, it’s nice to meet you," the sales girl greeted politely. Robin was nonchalant and said,
"She wants an engagement ring. Give her something nice." He went to sit on the visitor’s chair and crossed his leg whilst browsing on the phone. Again, Zayla felt as if she had been thrown under the carpet.
"Darling, won’t you choose the right one for me please?"
Robin frowned, as his gaze moved from the screen of his phone. He said seriously, "Zayla, I’m not good with such things. Just choose what you want."
Robin was used to the executive style of shopping but those services were not rendered in places like this, for which reason he was quite disappointed that she came to buy the jewelry here.
No wonder she originally bought a fake one. Zayla covered her dismay with a beautiful smile as the sales girl pointed to a 14-carat diamond ring,
"This is beautiful. It costs just 50k," she announced.
Zayla was greatly upset. She wanted something to flaunt her status and here she was, recommending something so cheap when no one asked her. She glanced in Robin’s direction and saw him busy on his phone. Then she lowered her voice and snarled,
"Are you crazy? I want the most expensive engagement ring."
The sales girls smiled nervously and replied, "Then you should keep what you are wearing. It’s 60k.
Zayla realized that she had indeed been duped earlier. She intentionally did not mention earlier that she knew the ring was fake. Somehow, she hoped that Sabrina had been the one to judge wrongly but turns out that Sabrina was right. She feigned shock and exclaimed,
"But you said it was 4 million."
"I’m sorry but that was the original and it’s already sold. We only showcase the fake ones due to recent armed robbery cases."
Not being able to endure Zayla, fury, she explained further, "Please don’t get me wrong. We are expecting new jewelry but they haven’t come in yet. You can check back next week."
Zayla would have wished to come back later for the new models but it did not seem that Robin would have the time to take her out again. It would turn out to be just her and who knows, if she was pranked with another fake one, she would not be able to detect it but with Robin here, the sales girl would not dare.
"No. You lied to me. You made me borrow a fake ring and people laughed at me."
Robin lifted his head to glance at their direction due to Zayla’s raised voice and the sales girl shivered slightly.
"I’m sorry but you picked it yourself. I didn’t do so for you. You also did not ask if it was fake or original," she apologized nervously.
When Robin rose to his feet, she was even more scared but he glanced at the screen of his phone again and frowned before saying,
"Zayla, I have to meet someone. Should I take you home or you’ll take a cab? I can as well send a driver to get you."
Zayla bit her lower lip bitterly. Robin was not a gentleman. Did he bring her to embarrass her because it wasn’t his idea to come here? Swallowing the pain, she responded,
"Please drop me at the penthouse but I won’t take more than three minutes. Robin was already at the door before she asked the sales girl with an undertone,
"What is the most expensive ring you have at the moment?"
"This one. It’s 1.2 million," the sales girl turned around and brought a different one that was not on display. Zayla slipped it onto her ring finger and asked Robin,
"Darling, I’ll take this one. How does it look?" She flaunted it towards him.
"If you like it, then it’s fine. You are free to use your black card. It has enough funds in it," Robin said and walked out, leaving her awkward in front of the sales girl.
It was obvious that she managed to get him upset because of the things she said about Sabrina. Zayla grounded her teeth, she was sure that they turned to powder.
Chapter 52: Chapter 52 - Pasta? No one cooks it better than Sabrina
Zayla reluctantly brought out her card, as she watched his back through the glass door. Robin has been busy with his phone since they entered the shop and was not giving her any attention.
Now, he walked away without showing any interest in the ring. It was obvious that if Robin was pushed into doing something he did not want to, the result was always terrible.
Arriving at the penthouse, Robin sped away as soon as she stepped out of the car, Zayla wondered. Earlier, he made her feel like he wanted to spend all his time with her but suddenly, it was as if she was forcing herself on him again. Ah, what a man! How did Sabrina live with him for three good years?
While driving to Daniel’s house, Robin called him on the phone which he connected to his dashboard, "Dan, are you sure about what you are saying?"
Daniel had texted him earlier that he had information on Sabrina’s ex, which got Robin excited.
It did not show in his voice but Daniel could tell that he was.
"Robin, I have authentic news this time and it’s worth the money you paid. I had to work through the night to get this information. I had to pay some people too," Daniel explained further. He did not add that his inspiration for working so fast was because of Lizzy.
"Then why not give me a hint?" Robin asked, a little skeptically. Since Daniel failed him the last time which was a first, he still had his doubts but Daniel chuckled and responded,
"Hahaha, like I said in the text, I’m cooking so come to my house."
Robin did not take it seriously before but since he mentioned it again, it was worth Robin’s attention.
"Cooking?" He asked with raised brows while increasing the speed.
"Yes. I haven’t done it in a long time but I’m doing it to sharpen my skills. I want to impress a girl," Daniel laughed from his side of the line. Robin shook his head,
"You are talking rubbish but I’m already at your penthouse," he said and ended the call. When he got out of the car and entered the living room, he began yelling, "Daniel, where are you? I’m here."
Daniel came out of the kitchen with two plates of hot steaming pasta on a tray. "Calm down, Robin, let’s eat first. You should taste my pasta and tell me how it tastes."
Daniel sets the food on the dining table while beckoning Robin to join him. It smelled good but recalling what happened with Zayla’s cooking, Robin could not conclude that it would taste as that of his ex-wife’s.
"Pasta? No one cooks it better than Sabrina." Robin pulled a chair and sat beside the dining table while he spoke.
Daniel sat on a chair opposite Robin before asking seriously, "Robin, are you missing your ex-wife?"
"Dan, Sabrina cooks well, and admitting it has got nothing to do with missing her," Robin said before picking up his fork and taking his first bite.
"Then you won’t like what I want to say," Daniel said while digging into his food. Robin swallowed before saying,
"But I want to hear it."
Daniel shook his head and spoke honestly, "No point. I thought you wanted all that information because you missed her." Sometimes, it felt as if he got the signs right but other times, it looked as if he got them all wrong. However, Robin was getting upset. Dropping his fork, he demanded,
"Daniel, I paid you for it. Now spit it out."
Daniel lifted his two hands in total surrender while he teased Robin, "Hey, eat first Robin, you look hungry." Robin shook his head and continued to eat but did not want to admit that he was hungry.
"I had breakfast," he smiled and spoke, while eating the food. Daniel chuckled and responded,
"I guess you didn’t like it," he pointed out, Robin stilled a little before asking worriedly,
"Is it so obvious?"
He has always tried to put it all together to not let it show that a part of him was missing but Daniel was making it obvious that it was not hidden the way Robin thought it to be.
"Glaring," Daniel said seriously.
"So, what is the news?" Robin asked after dabbing his lips with a napkin and rising to his feet. He walked leisurely to the living room and sat on the sofa, leaning his back against it whiles he crossed his legs elegantly. Daniel took the empty plates back to the kitchen before joining him in the living room and saying,
"You didn’t compliment the food."
"But I emptied the plate which I never did after Sabrina left," Robin said seriously. Emptying the plate meant that the food was delicious but he was not going to say it directly.
"You mean after you divorced her?" Daniel asked in a mocking tone before going on to say, "Now, this is what happened."
Robin leaned in to give his full attention so Daniel continued to speak, "Since Lizzy James was close to Sabrina and the others, I hacked her."
Robin frowned instantly, his anger rising and falling. How could Daniel have called him all the way here and wasted so much time by forcing him to eat which he enjoyed though, but to tell him about Lizzy? Robin could not be courteous about it.
"I don’t want information on Lizzy or whatever. I want to know about Sabrina’s ex and Martin Dane’s sister," he said seriously. Martin perked up instantly, thinking about his truckload of information. If he did not take his time to explain it well, everything would be confusing but Robin was so impatient.
"Robin, please listen first, and why the rush? Anyway, in the cause of hacking Elizabeth James, I got information on everyone else and Sabrina’s ex-boyfriend is fake," Daniel revealed, Robin was greatly confused though internally, he was happy to hear the word fake, thereby asking seriously,
"What do you mean?"
Chapter 53: Chapter 53 – Robin, there is more.
"He is her half-brother," Daniel said while observing Robin’s expressions. The most dominant was the confusion that overshadowed all his other features.
"How possible? Sabrina never had siblings," Robin frowned and said, while recalling the things Devin had told him that he did with Sabrina. If this was true, then it made Robin ashamed to have fought with him because of those nasty things he said but he still could not understand the possibility. Daniel shook his head whiles he accused Robin,
"Robin, you failed your ex-wife. You know nothing about her."
Robin felt guilty but hid it well, while saying in a commanding tone, "Explain."
Everything that happened with Sabrina after the divorce was so fast and instead of investigating matters, he formed his opinion but he could not help blaming Sabrina partially. She was the one who said that Devin was her boyfriend. The two of them planned to get back at him and it worked.
Robin did not want to accept that during those times, he felt strangely jealous but right now, he wanted to know more. He needed all the details. It was the reason why he spent so much to get this information.
Daniel nodded his head and continued to do as told.
"Sabrina’s mother was with child before she married their father Cobby but he took Devin, Sabrina’s half-brother slash fake boyfriend as his own. Devin never changed his surname. He goes by Devin Cage and is also a co-owner of JC Minerals and Clothing."
"From further probing, his real father died in a plane crash and when he turned eighteen, he inherited all his father’s assets including the clothing line. The jewelry part was not included in his father’s company."
Robin felt a new rain of calmness cascading down on him and his heart felt at peace, he thought allowed, "No wonder she was given the position of deputy CEO."
Now he understood that the position already belonged to Sabrina and she only went back to claim what was rightfully hers. A decent woman indeed. Robin had to agree that his respect for Sabrina grew that instant.
Also, he was happy with himself for not allowing Zayla to say those nasty things about Sabrina. She was innocent of them all, for which reason Robin was very proud of her. Sabrina was not the loose woman she was portraying herself to be by the pictures she painted of herself and that made Robin very happy.
Daniel liked the expression on Robin’s face, for which reason he continued to reveal more. "Well, JC Minerals was formerly Coks Mines. Does that ring a bell?" He asked seriously, Robin perked up with interest. That name rang a bell indeed and he remembered it vividly.
"Coks Mines was Sabrina’s father’s company, a dying business for which reason, he partnered with my dad. Sabrina took advantage of it as well to be my wife," he said accusingly but strangely, the anger he used to feel towards her because of the arranged marriage before was no longer there.
Whereas, Daniel was bound to surprise him with some more revelations.
"Wrong, Robin, not everything adds up but the marriage was all your father’s idea. He is dead and gone and I can’t guess his reason for forcing her to marry you to help her father."
Robin shook his head with disapproval. He knew about this part very well and was beginning to doubt the authenticity of Daniel’s information again.
"Sabrina has always loved me. My father would never force her to marry me," he said seriously but Daniel continuously shook his head.
He would have supported Robin’s claim if he did not have the proof but he did. The long night he spent to get all this information could not go to waste.
"Robin, Sabrina loved you but she is also a decent woman. She never wanted to force herself on you, especially after realizing that you loved Zayla. Her father and yours forced her and the proof is right here."
Daniel gave his iPad to Robin and said, "Your father sent an email to Cobby and threatened him that if he did not allow Sabrina to marry you, their friendship would be destroyed and he would forget all the good the father and daughter ever did for you. You recognize your father’s email address and the date which was three months before your forced marriage."
Robin frowned when he read the email as Daniel continued to say, "If that is not enough proof, this is the communication between the father and daughter after your father passed on when Cobby wanted to end the partnership."
Robin frowned when the recording was played. He could recognize the two voices, one belonging to Sabrina and the other to her father.
"Brina, come home, everything is okay. The company is fine and we can stand on our own."
"You already got me into the mess. I’m not leaving anymore."
"He treats you like shit. I’m sorry I forced you but you have to come home. You deserve someone better, Brina."
"He is human. He will change and I love him."
"Brina, please think about this."
"I won’t. I already made a promise to his dad that I will stay. I won’t go back because he is dead. I am still Robin’s only wife and I don’t care what he does with all those women for as long as he does not bring them to this villa."
"Brina,"
"Enough, dad, if this is the reason why you called, then don’t call me ever again."
A beeping sound was heard after, showing that Sabrina had prematurely ended the call. "There is no record of another communication between the father and daughter after this one throughout your three years of marriage," Daniel went on to explain but Robin seemed to be in deep thought as to the reason his late father thought to forget the kindness Sabrina and her father showed to him.
It was a sad realization for him that Sabrina would have stayed for as long as no other woman invaded her comfort zone, which was her home. Perhaps if he had convinced Zayla more and not taken her to the villa, he would have had both women without sweat. Just when he thought it was all over, Daniel discreetly revealed,
"Robin, there is more."
Chapter 54: Chapter 54 - Where does Martin come in in all this?
Robin was beginning to have a headache from all the information pouring into his mind simultaneously. Daniel continued to explain seriously, "Coks Mines was flourishing but was suddenly declared bankrupt. I don’t know if you have the documents."
"I think I do but I don’t like doing business with Companies that do not pull up much effort," Robin said seriously. He remembered at the time that he did not hesitate to sign it off when they wanted to end the partnership. Dying companies were like dead weight and could pull the strong companies back. For Robin, they were no, no.
"Well, a few months after you signed off to end the partnership? Coks Mines died and JC Minerals rose in its stead," Daniel revealed again. This time, he took the iPad from Robin and flipped back to where all the proof lay. It seemed to Robin that the company had not died as the CEO had declared but he was not going to take them on.
"So, Devin, or whatever his name is, bought Coks Mines, invested in it, and gave birth to JC Minerals?" Robin asked in interest. He never regretted being an only child until now. Somehow, Devin’s ways have dug a hole in his heart, longing to be filled by family.
"Yes, and just so you know, Coks Mines was Cobby and Kate, and JC Minerals was James and Cage. JC Clothing was originally, Cage clothing."
"Cage clothing died," Robin recalled vividly and said aloud but Daniel shook his head again,
"No, it was rebranded secretly."
For the first time, Robin felt like a fool for how this family played their cards so well. "Why?" He asked seriously.
"It seems to me that father loved the foster child as his own, the foster child loved his half-sisters, Sabrina and Lizzy so much and wanted to secure their future away from any partnership.
All this while, father and son hated you so much, they were preparing the way for their beloved Sabrina, even when she was still married to you. Their bond is very tight and Devin would kill for Sabrina or Lizzy," Daniel explained in detail.
Robin was surprised at all the revelations before him. No wonder Sabrina was confident. She did not need Robin to survive. She was only there because of the love she had for him but something was still missing from the puzzle so Robin asked,
"Then why did Devin allow her to marry me?"
"Because it was his foster father’s decision. The fella does not only love his foster father but also respects him to the max. Even if he does not like the idea, for as long as Cobby says it, he would take a step back. They never allow the lines of foster and half into their world. To them, it does not exist and they were all born from the same mother and father."
Robin could not help but admit that the family bond was a strong one that he underestimated. Somehow, he wished to have a family like this in the future. But then again, was it going to be with Zayla? Robin did not think so. He tries his best to make it work but she always makes it difficult for him.
Now that he already lost Sabrina, how could he achieve such a family? At the thought of Sabrina, he recalled another missing part of the puzzle and asked,
"Where does Martin stand in all these?"
Daniel let out a deep breath, stood up, and went to pour himself and Robin a glass of fruit juice each. After offering the glass of juice to Robin, he gulped down his but Robin dropped his on the side table without a sip. Daniel continued with the revelations.
"I almost forgot about the mysterious guy. Martin Dane started the same school as Devin after his sister, then five or six years of age, tried to kill little Sabrina."
"How?" Robin had a scowl on his face and also felt strangely pained at the information.
"The little Mara was so obsessed with her brother, she never wanted him to like anyone except her. However, anytime the driver would pick her up from school, Martin would be in the car, though he went to a different school. He did so to just catch a glimpse of Sabrina who was always with Devin and Lizzy. It got worse when Martin bought a doll with his savings. Mind you, he was just ten."
Robin was listening with all attentiveness as if he was in a classroom listening to his teacher. Daniel explained continuously, "Martin bought the doll for Sabrina and since he could not give it to her directly, he dropped it in Devin’s backpack.
Devin did not know who dropped the doll in his backpack and wanted to throw it away but little six years old Sabrina saw and loved the doll so he gave it to her. Mara knew that her brother bought the doll for Sabrina and tried to take it from her. The two fought and Sabrina won so when given detention, she set the room on fire and escaped."
Robin was too shocked at the revelation that he could not utter a word. How in the world could a six- or five-year-old be so wicked? Daniel continued to tell the story nonetheless.
"Little Mara also told the firefighters that there was nobody in the room where the fire was burning but Devin’s bond for his sister was so strong. He insisted that Sabrina was in the room and wanted to go and rescue her before the firefighters forced the door open to see her lying unconscious on the floor from inhaling so much smoke. For that reason, Devin searched for Mara to take revenge against her but never found her."
Daniel chuckled and added, "You know that he slapped Zayla and forced her to take down the news about Sabrina, right?"
"He did?" Robin asked seriously before he added, "Zayla said it but I never believed her because there was no proof. You told me there was none," Robin glared at Daniel in annoyance.
"Indeed, everything was erased but the cleaner he paid to tell no one that he was in the ladies’ washroom was one of my spies too. I just did not tell you because Zayla deserved it," Daniel said nonchalantly. Robin was shaking his head in all directions, not believing that Daniel lied to him.
Chapter 55: Chapter 55 – Robin breaks done, never meant to divorce Sabrina.
"How could you? You know that she’s pregnant," Robin said bitterly. He was upset but Daniel was least remorseful and laughed.
"It was just a slap and not a kick to her stomach. No injuries."
Robin shook his head and said, "I can’t believe that you are my friend." He was certain that Daniel did not like Zayla and that worried him a lot. If there was anyone, he could entrust Zayla to if he was away for a long trip, then that would be Daniel but it seemed that his best friend was his baby mama’s worst enemy.
Daniel shrugged and continued to tell the story with the same nonchalance. "Well, Devin is so vengeful, he would get even with anyone who hurt any of his sisters. As Karma would have it, Mara was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver. If it was this same Devin, I would have pinned it on him but he was too young to instigate something like that."
"Mara was in a coma for two years and woke up paralyzed, only to find out that Martin had joined the same school and befriended Devin because of Sabrina."
"That little monster is more dangerous than I thought," Robin observed and spoke. His thought of using her earlier to get Martin away from Sabrina changed for the fear that she might hurt Sabrina.
"Yes, and since Devin knew Mara, Martin could never tell him that she was his sister but that is the only secret he has kept from his best friend for ages. It was also the reason why he did not use his family name since his school days. Instead of Martin Sula, he goes by Martin Dane."
"So, what stopped him from pursuing Sabrina all this while?" Robin asked seriously. Devin was no longer a threat to him. His only unease was in having Martin close to Sabrina. Also, with a psycho sister like that, he could not accept it.
"Martin had always made his intentions known to Devin but Devin was honest enough to tell him it was not the right time to tell her since his sister was in love with you from the moment, she saw you. Sabrina never hide anything from her family so they all knew. At a point, she was even Zayla’s friend but I don’t know the details of that," Daniel said honestly. Then he added,
"I don’t have proof but their friendship must have been short. You could ask Zayla about it."
"No need. She already feels threatened about Sabrina so the least she hears of her, the better for all of us," Robin finalized. So, Devin decided to conclude his discovery.
"Martin was the reason why Devin hated you and never wanted Sabrina to marry you so when things went bad, he kept trying to get Sabrina back for Martin through his father but Sabrina refused until you brought Zayla."
That part of the information which Robin already knew, hit him like one of Devin’s punches. Seeing the pain in his eyes for the first time, Daniel smiled and continued to say,
"Now that Martin has her, I doubt he’d ever let her go, even with an evil sister in the picture."
Robin may have lost but he still felt an ounce of hope. He could still feel a connection to Sabrina even after the divorce, which he could only link to one thing and asked,
"What about Sabrina? Did you confirm her pregnancy?"
Daniel shook his head and Robin was disappointed. If Sabrina was indeed pregnant for him as he suspected, then that would have been the ticket for him to use to keep Martin away from her but without that confirmation, then he would have to admit that he lost to Martin.
"For now, everything about her has been taken down but the spy has begun his work and will update me when she visits the hospital again. By then, I will get the health records you have requested," Daniel assured but this time around, Robin was quick enough to see the loophole in his plan. He refused and advised,
"No, if she visits the hospital, let me know. They might just wipe everything again."
If Devin was able to slap Zayla without any of the cameras capturing his movement in and out of that restaurant, then he was indeed the one responsible for wiping Sabrina’s health records, for which reason Robin could not take chances anymore.
"So, what would you do?" Daniel asked with confusion written all over his face. Robin smiled a little and replied,
"Leave that to me."
"So, what if she’s indeed pregnant for Martin?" Daniel asked and Robin stiffened a little. He tried to picture Sabrina and Martin in bed. No, something just told him it was impossible but Daniel, upon seeing his discomfort, kept hammering his weaknesses harder.
"Now we know that her relationship with Devin was fake. She only did it to upset you but she must have had something with Martin before their relationship was made public. She is your ex-wife, Robin. Forget about her," Daniel said. He was testing him but did not expect Robin to flare up.
"Never, she is carrying my child. I fucked her every night and you mean to tell me that Martin got her pregnant after she had lived with me for three years?" Robin’s eyes turned red as he told but Daniel was bent on making him confess his true feelings for Sabrina and said,
"It happens, just like he said, you and Sabrina might just be incompatible."
"No," Robin raged before he added in a commanding tone, "I want to know everything about her relationship with Martin."
"All I have on them now is the fact that he sends her fresh flowers every morning. Robin, you can never win against Martin because you are not a one-woman man. Martin never dated any woman. He waited for Sabrina all his life. It’s obvious that he loves her so much so why not allow her to be happy?"
Daniel asked softly while staring intently at his best friend. Suddenly, Robin broke down and a tear fell from his eyes,
"I never meant to divorce Sabrina. I was only excited that Zayla was carrying my child. Dan, I want to be called a Daddy too. I need an heir for my cooperation," Robin said. Daniel watched as he sobbed for the first time since they became friends for decades.
