Chapter 56: Chapter 56 – Sabrina’s charms

Daniel was trying his best but could still not understand his best friend. He kept saying that he did not miss Sabrina and did not want her but his actions said different things. He waited until Robin got a hold of himself before asking seriously,

"But you also said that Zayla saved your life and you love her."

"Yes," Robin agreed but went on to explain after seeing the confusion on Daniel’s face, "but even after we met again after she left to Europe, I was ready to give her anything but I never planned to marry another woman when I already had Sabrina. I just didn’t want to lose the opportunity of being a father and that was what Zayla presented me after that drunk night. He was going to abort the child if I refused to all her into the villa," Robin explained but Daniel shook his head.

"But you were still fucking the bitches," he pointed out. If Robin was just torn between two women, Daniel would understand but knowing that his friend had a very high and insatiable libido, the things he said, confused Daniel even more.

Whereas Robin was offended by Daniel’s judgment, he looked him in the eyes and said, "See the pot calling the kettle black."

Daniel lifted his two hands in total surrender and laughed. "I’m not in any serious relationship, Robin. I’m free to fuck who I want but now, I have eyes on Lizzy and I plan to go exclusive with her."

"Hahahahaha," "Robin laughed so much, there were tears in his eyes. After all the lecture Daniel gave concerning Devin, he was going to chase after Lizzy? "Then you should end your friendship with me because Devin would never allow you close to his sister when he knows you are just like me."

Daniel frowned, feeling how painful it was to be at the receiving end. It was sad that Devin had caught him twice with different women. Indeed, the guy would make things difficult for him but this was the first time Daniel found a girl he captured his heart wholly so how could he give up so easily,

"I don’t give up easily and I will pay her a visit," Daniel vowed solemnly, Robin laughed some more, his woes temporarily forgotten and he said,

"You should also be ready for some punches. That guy is so violent. Does he even have a girlfriend?" Robin observed and asked, laughing some more. Daniel shook his head and said,

"I heard he had a serious one but she cheated on him and that was the end of their relationship."

Robin stopped laughing suddenly upon knowing that Devin was not dating at the moment. It only meant that his protective gears over his sisters would be on overdrive. "Keep an eye on Sabrina. I don’t think she loves Martin. I saw it from the way she looked at him. She just wants to forget me," Robin said with a bitter smile.

Daniel gazed at him seriously since the times of laughter were over. He said directly, "You are so smart but you would be smarter if you leave your ex-wife alone and focus on your first love and baby mama."

Robin was so angry but also pained. It was not as if he had not tried. He hardly got enough sleep through the night and every time he did, there she was in his dreams. Robin did not know where to direct his anger and yelled,

"Then she should fucken stop appearing in my dreams. How does she get peaceful night sleeps when mine is taken away? She must have used some charm on me," he said finally, laughter echoed in the living room where they sat talking. Daniel could not believe that Robin was the same old Robin because this guy was slowly losing his head in matters concerning his ex-wife.

"That’s a funny accusation. If she had charms, then you she would have used it on your in the marriage, not when she is out of it. The fact remains that you still think about her," he shrugged and said directly, Robin shook his head painfully. The only times he felt okay was when he was immense in work but as soon as he was tired and closed his eyes, there she was.

When he was hungry, he’d miss his favorite pasta, which was also best prepared by her. robin wanted to move on but images of Sabrina forbade him from doing so.

"I can’t cum until I picture making love with her," he confessed before regretting it. Daniel has been laughing at him a lot today but there was no other person Robin could also tell all these things to.

"Is that what you do with your whores now?" Daniel asked seriously but Robin could still feel the mockery in his tone, wishing that he could tear it away. Daniel had shown him his true colors today and yet, Robin could not bring himself to hate him because he knew that his best friend was telling the truth. However, It did not stop him from showing his best friend a little form of pity.

"The fuck, Martin, are you on my side or hers?" Robin got annoyed and asked. Martin, still laughing, stood up and said,

"Let me get us some water."

"Make it vodka," Robin requested but Daniel paused and looked at him seriously. Robin had always used alcohol to escape from reality but since he still had not confessed exactly what he felt for Sabrina, blaming it on her appearance in his dreams, Daniel did not intend to make it easy for Robin. He smiled and said,

"Sorry, don’t get drunk here. Go home and drink your vodka."

Robin frowned. "Why are you being mean? Give me a bottle of vodka. I will transfer the money to you," he said seriously but Daniel refused, disenchanted that Robin wanted to pay him for just a drink.

"I’m not being mean, Robin. You have a pregnant woman at home for which reason you should not get drunk. Do you want to damage your liver and die before your child is born? Think Robin, pleas think. Alcohol is not the solution. It never was, and never will.

Chapter 57: Chapter 57 – The surprise

Sabrina had a restful weekend at her father’s house and Devin had even spent the weekend there as well. Their father’s mansion gave them a real feeling of rest because of all the maids. Whereas, Devin would never allow a maid into his penthouse since he was mostly there alone.

Sabrina was amazed by all the doting she enjoyed both from her father, Lizzy, and the maids. At the mansion, Devin did not have to cook and everyone had a good rest. The publicity given to Sabrina, though with the attachment of being Robin’s ex-wife, did a lot of good for them so Monday was very busy and she was well prepared for it.

Arriving at the office, there was a bouquet waiting on her desk. She already knew it was from Martin and smiled. Just as she was about to send a text message to thank him, she heard a knock on the door and her head of Sales and Marketing manager barged in with excitement.

Not everyone was allowed to attend the Borough President’s birthday party since it was a private event for which no other staff could attend. Martin had also only gotten the opportunity through Devin.

"Thank you, Miss James, the phone lines have not stopped ringing since I reported to work this morning. Do you intend to visit the mines anytime soon?" She asked. Everyone could tell that they were going to be busy for the next couple of weeks if not months. Now that their company name was everywhere, it also attracted more affluent clients.

"No, but we are sure to have a lot of new stock soon," Sabrina said with certainty before adding, "I already arranged for new designs." She sat down, turned on her laptop, and said, "Give me thirty minutes and I will send them to you. Also, as soon as I receive the finished product, I will send them to you."

Sabrina wanted to check everything going out personally, to not be hit by unwanted surprises. Whereas, her Sales and marketing Manager, Adelaide was eager to sell them, to add to her report for the month. Since they were in the last quarter of the year, everyone and businesses everywhere were getting more and more busy.

"Your presence is a blessing. Mr. Jewel lost a gem. You are prettier and more hardworking than that baby mama of his," Adelaide analyzed. Sabrina frowned. She might not like Zayla but she also did not like to speak negative things about people behind their back. If she had a problem with someone, she would say it to their faces.

"That is his fiancé, Adelaide," Sabrina retorted in a warning tone but Adelaide did not seem to care, going on to say,

"Whatever, I don’t like her but I know it’s none of my business. You are here for us and that is a great achievement."

Well, with the media, it became an honor to work with JC Minerals. Adelaide had yet to tell Sabrina about how all the other staff members were celebrating her name including the ones, who did not like the fact that she took over from Lizzy, who was equally hardworking, when the door barged open and Devin stood there.

"Brina, are you alright?" He looked disturbed which got Sabrina confused.

Adelaide smiled and greeted, "good morning, Mr. Cage." Devin’s over protectiveness of his sisters was not unknown to everyone who worked at both JC Clothing and Minerals.

"Good morning, Adelaide. Sorry to interrupt but I need to have a word with my sister," Devin said politely, hinting that they needed to be excused. Adelaide smiled and responded,

"I was just leaving."

As soon as she stepped out, Devin was about to speak, when Martin stepped in. The two men looked so worried, Sabrina was so disturbed and was eager to know what was ailing them. Before she asked, Martin complained,

"Sabrina, I’ve been worried. Is everything alright? I didn’t hear from you after the delivery and when I called, you were not answering."

Sabrina shook her head at the fact that she was being treated like a little kid. "Chill guys, I got in not long ago with Dad but there was already a pile of work before Adelaide came in so why are you both here? If it was just about my safety, you would have called Dad to check on me," she glanced suspiciously between the two men dressed in different shades of suit.

"You are right. We have a surprise for you," Devin announced. Sabrina’s brows raised with a slight excitement before she asked,

"And what is that?"

"If you guess it right, then we will show it to you now but if wrong, then you’ll have to wait until evening," Devin replied, Sabrina was puzzled since she was not good with the guessing games.

"I honestly can’t think of anything right now. Unless you want to buy jewelry for your new girlfriend," she teased Devin, who frowned at her,

"You know I haven’t found one yet and Martin has never been on a real date."

"I guess I would have to wait to see it in the evening. I’m not good at guessing," Sabrina gave up since she could not think of anything at that moment that made both men so thrilled.

"Matilda is safe," both men said in unison.

Sabrina shook her head since it was so fast. She was not expecting it so soon and her heart was already jumping in her chest. "No, I want to see her now. Where is she?"

"You have work to do, my sweet little sister. You can see her after work at my penthouse. It took just an hour for them to realize that she was not at their mansion and have been on the lookout for her secretly so we are working on clearing her name so her father won’t be ashamed of her being in the public’s eye," Devin explained.

Sabrina went around to hug her brother. "Thank you, Devin."

Devin pulled away and smiled before revealing, "Seventy percent of the work was done by Martin."

Sabrina turned to Martin and said with gratitude, "Martin, thank you very much."

Martin smiled mischievously before saying, "You could pay me with a real date at a restaurant of my choice."

Chapter 58: Chapter 58 – I just want revenge

"Deal."

Sabrina was overjoyed. Finally, the guilt she carried in her heart for years was about to melt away. Matilda said she had forgiven her but Sabrina wanted to see her to know that she meant every word and not just because she had been kept away in a mansion.

Devin and Martin had done a great job in bringing this happiness to her, for which reason she did not have to think twice before going on a real date with Martin.

Martin was unamused due to how quickly she accepted the request without a thought to it and explained further,

"It’s going to be an evening outing."

"Deal. Let’s make it over the weekend," Sabrina confirmed to show that she understood the request. Martin’s lips stretched and a smile filled it. He looked so handsome when he was happy like that and he had to hold himself from just grabbing and hugging Sabrina tightly.

"You have no idea how happy you made me," Martin bloomed and Sabrina was about to say that the feeling was mutual and he deserved this as a reward when Devin cut in and said,

"I figured you’d be busy so I ordered lunch to be delivered to you and Dad in the office."

Sabrina smiled wider. If she was to die and come back again, she would never ask for any other brother except Devin. "I’m so honored to have a brother like you," she said with glistening eyes. Devin chuckled and said,

"The best gifts Mum gave me were you, Lizzy, and Dad. I have no regrets and I’m happy for everything we have been through together." Then he paused as if he just remembered something important and said, "That reminds me. For your next antenatal in two weeks, you have to go with Martin."

"It’s the right thing to do," Sabrina agreed without a blink. With nothing more to do, both Devin and Martin returned to their various offices. When Martin reached his office, his excitement bloomed even more and most of his workers were surprised to see the big boss happy in broad daylight but no one could ask him why.

As soon as he sat on his executive swivel chair, he called to make arrangements for their special dinner. He continued to work, smiling all through when the smile was wiped by a phone call he could not dare to refuse to answer.

"Mara, what do you want?" He asked a bit irritably since he had the agreement to not be disturbed by his sister during work hours. Mara was always straightforward forward so she said directly,

"You signed a deal with her."

"You are already aware of it," Martin agreed but did not expect the next question,

"So, when are you signing the next one?"

Martin frowned and responded,

"It’s too early."

Mara sounded displeased. She expected him to sign the first two deals together, for which reason she was unhappy when only one document was sent to her email. She was the one to orchestrate the deal with JC Minerals as soon as she heard of Sabrina’s divorce and the fact that she worked with her father.

Martin had his interest at heart and did not refuse when Mara suggested it. However, after witnessing the happiness on Sabrina’s face after signing the first deal, he had no intention to continue with the second and third. The second one was not bad but he knew that as soon as he got that signed, Mara would be ready to take down JC Minerals with the third deal, which he did not want to allow.

"They are supposed to be three. The first and second were to help you gain her trust so you should sign it as soon as possible."

"Alright. I will prepare it and send it to her next week," Martin gritted his teeth and spoke. For this week, he wanted nothing to ruin his first real date with the only woman he loved.

"That is too far," Mara disagreed but Martin had just had it to his neck.

"Mara, I am the one handling the company. If you are capable, then come and do it yourself," he said sternly. Mara could not move but her brain was sharp and she always had everything she needed around her.

However, it would be impossible for her to manage the company on her own so she gave up and said,

"Alright, next week but don’t play any games. The bitch has to lose everything. I saw the news today that JC Minerals has picked up. Why did you not tell me she was your date at the party? I had to be shocked by the news and pictures," she asked in an angry tone. Martin relaxed and said,

"Everything was just a business collaboration. You are worrying too much." He wanted to hang up the phone and get back to work since he never puts Mara on speaker, just in case someone walks in. Her existence was only known to him and her special caretaker whom they paid handsomely. Not even the maids in the mansion knew that a paralyzed woman was in the mansion.

"You have to promise me that you will destroy the bitch. I’m in this condition because of her and once she is down, I will sign off everything to you. I can’t continue living like this," she said in a pitiful tone.

Martin did not believe that she would do as said but asked out of curiosity, "And after that, you won’t interfere in my life again?"

"No. After that, you can marry whoever you choose. I just want revenge," she said seriously. Martin responded in a neutral tone,

"Alright. I will see you in the evening."

"Are you tired of talking to me?" Mara asked in a displeased tone, upset that he wanted to hang up on her.

"No. There is just a lot of work to do."

At Robin’s office, he was in a meeting with his executive members when a text message came through.

’I don’t know if you are interested in this one but he just booked a private room in a luxury hotel for a romantic dinner with Sabrina.’

Robin’s expression changed and he was instantly uncomfortable.

Chapter 59: Chapter 59 – It’s true, its Matilda

"Gentlemen, please excuse me for a minute,"

Robin said and stood up without waiting for a response. By his own rules, no one was supposed to answer his or her phone since this was a brainstorming meeting. His executive members looked on bewildered whiles he entered his inner office. Then he dialed Daniel’s number.

"Are you sure about what you are saying?" Robin did not believe that Sabrina would go on a romantic date with Martin. It was normal to have lunch or supper together but not what Daniel had sent via text message.

"Yes. The spy tipped one of her employees who was there when Devin and Martin arrived at Sabrina’s office. She was asked to leave but eavesdropped on their conversation. She said that Sabrina thanked Martin for helping out a friend and he asked for a real date in return," Daniel informed, Robin could feel his blood boil before it suddenly cooled and he asked,

"Did it mean that their relationship was also fake?"

"That is what it seems but I think Martin wants to move fast. He is doing everything possible to win her heart. This is just my thought anyway, there is no proof to it," Daniel clarified, just in case Robin began to ask him for proof.

"Send me the location," Robin said hastily since he had to return to the meeting.

"It’s not until the weekend," Daniel said calmly but Robin insisted,

"Still send it together with the date and time."

"Alright but what do you intend to do?" Daniel asked out of curiosity and to also know how to offer his help but Robin only said and asked,

"If you want to know? You could come but have you made progress with Lizzy?"

There was a second pause on the line before Robin said, "Well, after the fame you gave both their companies, the sisters are quite busy. I want to wait till the pressure reduces."

"Alright. I have to go back to my meeting."

**

Back at the office, Sabrina was so excited when Devin came to pick her from the office. "You are sure that Tilda is in your house?" She asked again.

Devin smiled and responded, "I haven’t seen her myself but yes, so I was told as well and since I gave the spy my code, I believe it."

Sabrina frowned, her excitement dying instantly at the explanation. "How can you say that? What if it’s a prank?" She asked seriously.

"Well, I have a picture of her in my house," Devin confirmed with a smile but it was still too hard for Sabrina to believe it so she requested,

"Can I see it?"

"No," Devin refused before they both walked to the car with Sabrina frowning all through.

"You are driving too slow," Sabrina observed and uttered by how Devin was driving as if he did not want them to reach the house early. She could not believe that Devin would do this at the time that she was so much in a hurry.

"That is good. Don’t forget what they say that speed kills," Devin nodded his head and continued to drive slowly, watching his sister almost bursting from anger, which he was sure would soon disappear.

"Not in this situation," Sabrina objected but Devin did not still make a move to increase the speed so she said,

"Devin, if you won’t step harder on the accelerator, then let me drive."

Devin smiled, as amusement showed in his eyes. "When was the last time you drove a car?" He asked jokingly, Sabrina frowned a little before she responded,

"A day before I got married to Robin but it does not mean I have forgotten how to do it."

"Take the wheels then," Devin said to her shock. Sabrina could not believe he was doing this to her. Devin meant to tease her and it was working very well.

"You are letting me drive?" Sabrina asked from awe but Devin only shrugged and replied casually,

"You said I was too slow."

Sabrina bit her lips to gain some calmness before she said, "I haven’t driven for a long time and I have not renewed my driver’s license too. Fine, just drive."

She endured the snail’s pace at which Devin drove the car, everything in her cursing the brother she loved so much. He surprised her and was now testing her patience. How unthoughtful of him? Sabrina tried to think of exciting things to pass the time but nothing seemed to come to mind at the moment since all she could think about was Matilda.

As soon as they arrived at the penthouse, she alighted from the car and ran towards the house. Unfortunately, the door was locked when she reached the entrance and she had not picked her card. Her nails were digging into her palms due to the anxiety and she wanted Devin to come and open the door quickly.

Graciously, he did not keep her waiting this time. "Aside from the card, there is also a pin number which happens to be your birthday," Devin said behind her.

Sabrina was biting her lips in agitation to not have known this before. Quickly, she entered the pin and when the door opened, they were both encased in the aroma of delicious grilled chicken and steamed rice.

"Who is cooking?" Devin asked, confused upon recalling he had ordered food for the spy to give to Matilda. Not only that, they also heard the sound of music coming from the kitchen. It was not too loud but they could hear it.

The siblings exchanged worried looks before they began to walk together towards the kitchen and with her back turned to them, was a woman with long brunette hair reaching her butts who was dancing and cooking. With such long hair, they could both tell that she had not had a hair cut in a long time or had any form of makeover.

Tilda used to be a fan of short hair. Sabrina felt moisture on her face as she said, "It’s true, it’s Matilda."

Chapter 60: Chapter 60 – Devin’s discomfort

At the sound of the familiar voice, Matilda turned around to face Sabrina. Tears were flooding down her face, as she run towards her best friend with a spatula in her hand which she had forgotten to put down. The excitement of seeing Sabrina again was just exhilarating. Even when she was not in captivity, she could not see Sabrina because of Robin. Sabrina was so obsessed with being a good wife, she cut everyone off.

"Thank you, Brina, thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me," Matilda cried. Sabrina’s work clothes were already wet from Matilda’s tears but Matilda’s casual dress was equally wet from Sabrina’s tears in the emotional exchange whiles Devin looked on like an outsider. Maybe that was his reason for driving so slowly.

"Shoooo, I wasn’t a good friend in the beginning and I want to make things right but this would not have been possible without my brother and his best friend."

"Martin?" Matilda pulled away and asked, looking surprised. Devin frowned a little and walked towards the oven where the chicken was being grilled.

"Yes. How did you know him?" Sabrina asked, surprised that Matilda knew Martin from before when she didn’t. Matilda was also surprised that Sabrina never noticed that guy who was always with Devin, yet was always watching Sabrina from a distance. Maybe it was because Robin had filled Sabrina’s mind so much.

"You don’t know Martin? We..."

"Is the food ready yet? I’m hungry," Devin interrupted their conversation. He did not want Sabrina to know about how obsessed Martin has been with her from time past. Things were slowly picking up between the pair and he wanted it to remain that way. Matilda’s attention was taken by the sound of Devin’s voice and gratitude welled up in her heart.

"Devin, nice to meet you again. Thank you very much."

"I’m glad to see you in one piece. No bruises at least," Devin observed and smiled. It was quite a relief that Sabrina would not be worked up on the fact that her best friend had been abused so much. Maybe her father was not the monster they thought him to be.

"No, I wasn’t abused. Only my freedom was taken away," Matilda explained with gratitude. Devin wore an oven glove and brought out the grilled chicken from the oven. Slicing through and tasting a bite size, he nodded his head and said,

"You cook well."

Matilda’s cheeks reddened at the compliment since she had not cooked for years and never had anyone compliment her cooking before, except Sabrina. "Sabrina and I used to cook together in school. I miss those days."

"So, did you finish eating all the food I sent?" Devin asked, as he wondered her reason for cooking again after sending over so much food enough for five people.

"No. It’s in the refrigerator. When I saw all the ingredients lying there untouched, I could not resist. I hope I didn’t overstep my boundaries. You can give me your rules," Matilda lowered her head and spoke.

She did not know why she felt so comfortable in Devin’s house and invaded his kitchen without his permission. It was boredom but she did not want to say it, after experiencing it for years.

Devin stared at her and shook his head. He thought she looked attractive when her cheek reddened previously. In times past, he never gave Matilda any form of attention but always knew that she was a good girl.

"Of course, you have to follow some rules and that is the same one I give my sisters. Treat this house as if it was yours and we are good," Devin patted her on the shoulder. Matilda smiled and sighed, as relief washed her. For a moment, she thought she was going to be bombarded with so many rules as her father gave her in the mansion where she was confined to her room at most times.

"Thank you. You two must be tired. Please sit. I will bring the food over."

"I’m here now so I’ll help," Devin began to pick the plates and cutleries whiles he spoke.

"Me too," Sabrina agreed and went to check on the steamed rice before seeing the already prepared salad in the fridge. She was dying to have a taste of everything Matilda had made.

She also wondered if Matilda still had her dream of owning a restaurant one day in mind. But that would mean she would have to take advance culinary classes. Well, that subject would have to be left for later.

Whiles eating, Devin revealed, "So Matilda, the thing is, you are not a prisoner here but right now, your father is still searching for you so it won’t be wise for you to move out freely."

"I understand but over here, I know that it would be for just a short time," Matilda responded with a bitter smile, wondering how her father would feel when he realizes that everything, they said about her was false.

"Yeah, just for us to get the necessary proof. It’s been quite a long time so it’s difficult getting the evidence to prove you innocent," Devin hinted, not wanting to raise her hopes and crash it later.

"I get it," Matilda nodded her head and ate slowly.

"When you are ready, I will show you to your room," Devin said when everyone was engrossed in their food and only the sound of cutleries was heard but Sabrina refused this time,

"No, she would share my room. We have a lot to catch up on."

Devin was slightly dismayed because he had wanted to use the opportunity to have a little chat with Matilda. The rule he gave her before, was not it. "So, you are neglecting me because she’s here," Devin stated with slight envy. Sabrina chuckled at his sorry face and teased him,

"Don’t be a big baby. Have a good rest since you have work tomorrow."

"So do you, and in your condition, you should be the one resting," Devin pointed out but was finding it hard to leave them alone since he wanted to prevent Tilda from spewing nonsense about Martin. The guy has come too far for doubts to be created on Sabrina’s mind. Gathering his courage, he asked,

"Tilda, can I have a word with you?"
