Ch. 61..65: The President's Pregnant, Ex-Wife Chapter 61-65
Chapter 61: Chapter 61 – Devin’s trust for Martin
Sabrina was curious about what Devin wanted to tell Tilda since they were not friends for as long as she knew, and he wanted to speak to her in private too. Sabrina could not help being suspicious, thereby saying,
"I want to hear it too."
Devin stiffened slightly. He knew that Sabrina would not just believe him blindly when it involved Matilda but still could not help but try. He relaxed and smiled,
"Chill, Brina, since she would be staying home a lot, I just want to show her the different ways of entertainment in this penthouse."
Sabrina found his excuse odd but decided to allow the matter to rest for now. She could still find out from Tilda later.
"Alright. Please don’t keep me waiting."
Matilda stood up and followed Devin to the kitchen. He closed the door before asking, "Matilda, what do you know about Martin?"
Matilda smiled. She thought it was something serious since she also did not believe his excuse of showing her entertainment places in the penthouse.
"I know that he has an obsessed sister who might hurt Sabrina if the two are dating each other," Matilda revealed.
Devin frowned. He wondered where people were getting this weird information including his father.
"Martin doesn’t have a sister, do you understand?"
"He does, I..." Matilda wanted to give him the details but Devin trusted Martin. He said he did not have a sibling and both of his parents died. He looked Matilda in the eyes and said seriously,
"Matilda, I allowed you here because of my sister but I don’t want you to cause problems for us. I won’t like you saying those things about my best friend."
Matilda swallowed everything else she wanted to say before. She had to agree that indeed, this was Devin’s house and she had to play by his rules. He was also the one to clear her name, for which reason she nodded and responded,
"Sure, it’s your house, so it’s your rules."
Devin noticed that her temperament looked saddened and decided to cheer her up.
"Thank you and I will get you some clothes tomorrow. You know we can be very good friends, right?" He smiled and added, "I mean, very good friends," he said in a lower voice.
Matilda smiled but before she could respond, a desperate voice interrupted them,
"Devin!"
Sabrina called out from the dining room.
"Coming, sis," Devin looked at Tilda again, and smiled before saying,
"Let’s go."
Matilda sat back on her chair when Devin began to pick up the empty plates. "If you girls have finished your meal, I’m cleaning but that is all there is. I’m going to bed after that."
"Good night, Devin," Sabrina said, excited to finally have a moment alone with her best friend.
"Good night, Brina and Tilda," Devin said, cast another glance at Tilda, before he turned around and left.
"Let’s go to my room. We both need to freshen up," Sabrina rose and dragged Tilda along like an excited teenager. In her room, she asked,
"So what did my brother say?"
Matilda so much wanted to tell Sabrina about Mara but thinking through what Devin said about Martin, she smiled and responded,
"He just wanted my dress size. Said he had to get me some clothes tomorrow."
"He made it sound like a secret," Sabrina said with dismay. Why would Devin ask for something like that in secret? She could not understand.
"So how have you been and what about Lizzy? What happened between you and Robin?" Matilda asked all together, awakening Sabrina’s buried sadness.
"Lizzy is fine. She works with Devin now. Zayla returned and she was pregnant with Robin so I asked for a divorce."
Matilda frowned. She did not like Robin because of his womanizing behavior but thinking about Martin, she felt that Sabrina would be safer with Robin.
"Sabrina, I don’t think you should have left him. You could have found ways to deal with Zayla."
"How? What are you talking about?" Sabrina asked bitterly. She could excuse Matilda’s ignorance for having been locked away for a long time.
"Zayla must want Robin because of his money. Her father’s business was struggling a lot. Before my issue came up, there was news about her father’s mismanagement and tax frauds, which were predicted to collapse his company," Matilda revealed but Sabrina did not care anymore.
She already left and that was that. "Well, she’s Robin’s first love so I can’t win against her."
"Oh yes you could. If you had told him all you did for him? I believe it would change his mind," Matilda said with a sad countenance.
Sabrina was very secretive. She had done so much for Robin without him knowing and Matilda was certain that that would have changed Robin’s mind concerning the divorce, should he have known.
"Tilda, if a man loves you, it should be because of who you are, not for the sacrifices or anything. Everything I did for him, was from a good heart because I loved him, and since living together could not grow any love in his heart for me, it’s completely useless."
Sabrina did not want to think about it. She still did not have regrets for sacrificing her life for Robin even when her father was against it. Matilda sighed, knowing that Martin was a good man but with his sister’s influence, it could turn him into a monster.
"And Martin?" Matilda asked again, hoping that there wasn’t anything tangible between them.
"We are fake dating. I’m pregnant with Robin and..."
"He doesn’t know that you left with his seed and you are using Martin to cover it up as if he was the father or the one who planted the seed?" Matilda cut her off and asked, Sabrina smiled bitterly again and nodded in the affirmative.
Matilda shook her head, disappointment filling her heart. She knew that Robin’s only weakness was women. Aside from that, he was a good man and very generous.
"Why didn’t you tell Robin that you were pregnant for him?" She asked seriously, knowing that that could have changed a lot of things between them.
Chapter 62: Chapter 62 – The new hotel rules
"The day I found out and wanted to tell him was the same night he brought Zayla to our matrimonial home, asking me to take care of her like I’m some old lady," Sabrina recalled sadly, Matilda felt pity for her.
"I’m sorry."
"That wasn’t the worst. When I asked for a divorce, he still slept with me that night. He threatened to not sign the divorce papers if I refused him. I was afraid of losing my child because of how he did it and the number of rounds he went but the fetus was fine when I went for a checkup the next day," Sabrina nodded and spoke sadly.
She was not able to tell anyone that part except Matilda. The latter went into deep thought, feeling that for Robin doing that, it meant that he was in love with Sabrina but she also knew that Sabrina would not believe it and rather asked,
"Alright. So, do you plan to have something with Martin? Do you feel anything for him?"
Sabrina shook her head. She did not feel anything before and she was certain that Martin could only be a good friend and a business partner.
"No, Tilda. I don’t have the energy to love again. I just promised him a real date because he helped Devin to get you out. The spy was his person," Sabrina said honestly, Matilda felt guilty for having put her through that.
"I see. Thanks for everything and I will find a way to pay him back when everything settles," she vowed.
It had been years and she knew it would take a long time to pick her life back but she was going to try anyway. She was not going to give up.
Sabrina disagreed and explained,
"He did it for me and I will pay him back with a real date."
Matilda felt guiltier. Only if she knew, she would not have made so many demands. "You already made so much sacrifice for me. You don’t have to..."
"I already promised him but it’s nothing okay? I’m just happy to see you again," Sabrina smiled and hugged her. Matilda swallowed the rest of her words and replied,
"So am I but I’m so sad that you did not teach Zayla a lesson."
Sabrina pulled away, smiled, and said, "In small ways, I have. Guess what? Robin called for me to cook pasta and salad. I knew he never liked salad so he asked me to cook for Zayla."
"And you did?" Tilda frowned in annoyance. Sabrina nodded her head and smiled upon recollecting everything.
"I cooked alright but when they were ready to eat, I gave it to the maids."
Matilda laughed and gave her a high five. "That’s my girl. He should enjoy Zayla’s horrible meals. I doubt she can cook any."
"And did I tell you that he bought a necklace worth 1.5 million from me for 120 million and gave it back to me? I thought he was going to give it to Zayla after I had told him that the difference he adds to it is the value he gives his woman," Sabrina recalled and spoke.
"Brina, you will not believe me but I think that he is in love with you," Matilda could not help saying after all she had heard but Sabrina shook her head at the possibility. Even if it was after she left that Robin grew anything for her,
"Then it’s too late because this heart has no room for erotic love anymore."
**
A few days later, Martin was in his office and decided to confirm the reservation he made for himself and Sabrina since it was supposed to be the next day. This was his only chance to make a good impression so he was not going to take chances.
For now, he never stopped sending fresh flowers to Sabrina every morning.
Dialing the hotel’s customer care number on his phone, he spoke as soon as the attendant answered from the end of the line.
"Good morning, this is Martin Dane. I made a reservation a few days ago and my number is..."
"Yes Mr. Dane, I remember and everything is in place for you," the attendant smiled and spoke. Martin felt his heart thump a little, as he imagined how his first date with Sabrina was going to be.
"Great. I would like to make an advance payment as well."
"You don’t have to worry about that, Mr. Dane. We have new management and policies have changed. You only pay for our services after dinner, when it’s up to your satisfaction."
Martin frowned, imagining the reason for the change, which he thought to be risky to the new management.
"So, what if I decide to not pay after dinner because I’m not satisfied with your services?"
He asked seriously, wondering which businessman purchased the hotel within a short time and made such risky changes.
"Then that will be our loss," the attendant smiled and spoke. Since Martin had nothing to lose, he said,
"Okay. Thank you very much."
The next day was a weekend so Martin spent his whole day with his sister. He fed, cleaned her up, and chatted with her until she fell asleep before he went to get ready for his date.
The maids have always seen Martin to be weird because he had two rooms. In the room where he kept Mara, no one was allowed to enter.
The housekeeper in charge of taking care of Mara was a former nurse. She was the only one who entered and always ensured it was locked.
Martin showered and dressed formerly, looking breathtaking before he drove out of the Mansion, to Devin’s penthouse.
Because of Matilda, Sabrina never went back to her father’s mansion. Lizzy had come to spend two days before leaving again.
Tilda had even helped with Sabrina’s dress and makeup and right on time at 7 pm, the doorbell rang.
Devin went to get the door, excited that Martin was making headway with his sister. He could not wait for Sabrina to completely forget Robin and start something new with Martin.
Devin was certain that Martin would give his sister the happiness she deserved.
"Sabrina! You look dashing!"
Martin handed her another bouquet and exclaimed, his eyes carrying complex emotions, as his hands itched to hug her to his chest.
Chapter 63: Chapter 63 – Robin again?
Sabrina received the bouquet and passed it over to Matilda, who went to arrange them in a vase.
"Thanks, Martin, are you ready? And I hope you don’t mind," Sabrina said, turning around for him to have a full view of the dress she wore.
It was a body con dress which she would not have liked before but Devin selected it for her and she had to agree that she would not be able to wear it when her bump began to show.
"Very soon, I won’t be able to wear this dress."
Martin smiled with lust flashing in his eyes when he saw how her curves were displayed in the dress.
"It’s perfect for the night."
Sabrina beamed and began to walk to the door when Matilda caught up to her and covered her shoulders with a fur coat.
"Keep warm," Matilda smiled and said before saying to Martin, "Thanks for helping out."
Martin smiled and responded, "I will do anything for Sabrina."
Matilda nodded her head but did not say anymore. While the two walked away, a thought formed in her mind before she went back to the room she shared with Sabrina.
Arriving at the hotel, Martin led Sabrina to the private room he reserved but was surprised to see two different tables. He wanted to ask but felt they were being given the option to choose where to sit since one table was close to the window while the second one was close to the entrance.
Sabrina was encased by the luxurious and romantic atmosphere. The lights were slightly dim lights. A chandelier hung right above the table Martin led her to, which was close to the large French windows, so she could have a good view of the whole of New York City.
"I love it here. It must be very expensive," Sabrina exclaimed, excitement filling her heart. Subtly, she felt embarrassed for having been married to a billionaire for three years and had never been privy to a place like this. Martin was Satisfied by how happy she looked, feeling that he made the right decision.
"Nothing is too expensive for you, Sabrina," he said softly.
A waiter walked in with the appetizer as Martin had requested in advance before Sabrina could respond. Steak and Prosciutto skewers with creamy Basil-Tarragon sauce.
Sabrina loved the cozy and romantic atmosphere as well as the flavorful bites of marinated steak layered with prosciutto. It also did not cause her nausea, which made her grateful for Martin’s thoughtfulness.
"This is good. I will research how to make it for later," she said, while she munched on it. Martin watched in admiration, hardly touching his food due to the beautiful sight in front of him. He wanted to kidnap her and take her far away.
Far from Mara, Robin, or anyone who would try to break them apart.
In the end, he shook his head, waving the thought away. Sabrina would hate him if he did that.
"If you like it so much, I could always order some to be sent to you every day."
Sabrina would have welcomed the idea but not when Martin kept sending her flowers every morning. It would be unthoughtful of her to keep demanding more when she had nothing to offer.
"Thank you but I would like to know how to cook it too."
Martin was displeased with her refusal but could not force it. What mattered was the fact that she was happy every day.
"If you say so, then I will get the ingredients from the chef for you."
Sabrina beamed again, excited at the idea. It would make it very easy for her to reproduce what she was eating if he indeed got that for her.
"I will be so grateful but we can’t just keep on eating right?" She asked, Martin frowned a little,
"I don’t understand."
Sabrina’s lips thinned and she looked into his eyes,
"Tell me about yourself. I want to know everything," she stopped eating and gave him her complete attention, which made him slightly uncomfortable but he tried to compose himself and forced a smile,
"Then you will just be in for a boring tale on a beautiful night like this," he avoided her gaze whiles he spoke.
Sabrina hoped that he could just confide in her. Indeed, if Martin confessed that Mara was his sister like her father said, she would have to keep her distance. Mara was the cause of her most horrible childhood experience but what she could not understand was the reason why Martin did not want to talk about her, or was hiding anything about her.
"I believe that you did not just drop from the sky and began making millions," Sabrina said tactically and Martin chuckled while taking a first bite of the appetizer to cover the nervousness he felt.
His sister hated Sabrina and he knew that Sabrina might still be afraid of his sister. For that reason, it was better for Mara to be non-existent. Martin chuckled before his expression turned gloomy.
"That’s funny, and yes, I indeed had a family before but lost them in my teenage years. Mom and dad died together in a car accident and I’ve been an orphan since then."
Sabrina already knew that he lost his parents but for him to mention it again, she was saddened.
"I’m very sorry."
"I’ve gotten over it and I have business to keep me busy," Martin smiled and his mood brightened, only for anxiety to set in once again when Sabrina asked,
"And you are an only child?"
"Yes, but I’ve always had Devin. He has been like a brother to me so I don’t feel as lonely as you think," he winked, at the same time a waitress came to clear the table whiles she asked,
"Excuse me Sir and Miss, are you ready for the main dish?
"Yes please," Sabrina answered in their stead, excited to see what else Martin had in store for the night.
The waiter left and returning with the meal, the door to the private room pushed open and Robin walked in with Zayla. Sabrina’s mood was instantly ruined and Martin was furious.
Chapter 64: Chapter 64 – Robin did it on purpose
Zayla froze in her step at the sight of the people already seated in the private room. From the romantic setup, she would have thought that Robin was finally stepping up their relationship or even for the fact that he was going to propose to her for real but seeing the couple at the next table, her heart fell.
It was not going to be just she and Robin as she had thought earlier. When Robin said he had a surprise for her, she thought it was going to be something for just the two of them. She never thought that she would be here bumping into Sabrina again.
Robin walked casually as if he had not seen the two people seated close to the window.
"Zayla, I don’t have all night," he said impatiently, while waiting for her to come and sit on the chair he pulled out for her.
Zayla recovered from her shock and walked to the chair, swallowing bitterly and wondering if Robin was aware that the pair were going to be there as well. Not being able to hold it in, she asked whiles walking towards the chair he pulled out for her,
"Darling, I thought this was a private room. What are they doing here?"
Robin stared at her impassively when she sat on the chair before he responded, "Zayla, can we have a meal in peace for once?"
"Okay," Zayla responded, her face falling even more. Robin hardly said much about Sabrina from the moment he shut Zayla up for calling Sabrina names and even at a romantic setup like this, he was still distant towards her.
At the other table, Sabrina’s appetite was ruined and Martin was so upset, he called the waiter,
"What is going on here? I booked the whole room to have a private dinner."
Both Martin and Sabrina noticed, that whiles the girl spoke, she even blushed. "I’m sorry sir but the hotel is under new management."
Martin frowned and asked, "And how is that supposed to affect my previous arrangements?"
The waiter’s cheeks reddened even more. "Sir, Mr. Jewel bought the hotel a few days ago. He wanted to have dinner with his fiancé alone but when we informed him that you had already booked, he still allowed you to join them instead of canceling your order. Mr. Jewel is very generous," she smiled.
Sabrina’s heart stung. So Robin could be so romantic towards Zayla whiles when she was with him, she became a complete housewife. She was convinced that she had gotten over him but the expression on her face showed otherwise.
Martin was a boiling rage. Unlike Sabrina, he knew that Robin was doing this because of revenge and it had nothing to do with Zayla. He always knew that Robin was smart but this was beyond. Buying the hotel which was also the most expensive in the whole of New York City just to embarrass Martin, was extreme.
Also, Robin would have nothing to lose because, in the end, he would make all his money back since the hotel was one of the most successful businesses. Martin’s anger began to rise toward his sister. If not for her, he could have gotten back at Robin by buying the hotel but Mara would never approve of it.
"I am not satisfied with your service," Martin declared, thinking that the waiter would be saddened and try to make amends but she only smiled and glanced in Robin’s direction as if he was some kind of superhero.
"Mr. Jewel already considered it. He said you could eat for free."
That was the last straw. Martin’s pride broke for having the food he specially ordered for Sabrina to be paid for by her ex-husband. If he stayed, it would be more shameful. Even Sabrina felt embarrassed at the news and the fact that Robin was doing it for Zayla.
"Sabrina, can we go?" Martin asked Sabrina nodded, just as the waiter said,
"Please wait, sir."
She rushed inside and returned with all the food Martin had ordered, packaged. She even included all the desserts. Robin had told them to do so, knowing that Martin’s pride would not allow him to continue eating at the hotel.
"You already placed the order so you can have it all for free," she forcefully stuffed the packaged food in Martin’s hands, he was so upset and embarrassed. When he saw Robin glance at their table and smile, he lost it. Dropping the food and the table, he said to Sabrina,
"Please sit a while, I will be back."
Sabrina nodded her head and sat down. She thought that Martin was going to use the gents but to her amazement, he marched over to Robin’s table.
"Can we talk?" Martin demanded, Robin smiled a little but his eyes were cold when he responded,
"Sure, bring your chair over. As you can see, there is no extra."
Martin’s hands balled into fists and his jaws clenched but Zayla saw an opportunity and quickly stood up,
"You can have mine," she said since she wanted to talk to Sabrina as well. However, her action displeased Robin since he wanted to embarrass Martin. Before he could object, Martin already sat comfortably in front of him, asking seriously,
"What are you up to, Robin?"
Robin was so cold, it shone through his voice as he addressed Martin, "You dare not address me casually, Mr. Dane, we are not friends."
Martin smiled but it did not reach his eyes. Robin has just ruined his date and was acting all high and mighty about it. "Then you should not have paid for my meal."
Robin let out a humorless chuckle, "Oh, if receiving is hard for you, then it only means you are stingy. When you give freely, you receive freely. Also, I could have just canceled your date but I’m very generous," he shrugged and spoke in an impassive tone, making Martin’s anger burn.
Martin shook his head and accused him, "You bought this hotel on purpose to ruin my date."
Chapter 65: Chapter 65 - Stay away from my ex-wife
Robin smiled a little. How smart of Martin to have caught it very fast? Perhaps he caught it due to what happened at the birthday party.
"Now you sound ridiculous. I am a businessman."
Martin was furious that he tried to deny it and went on to say,
"You are trying to get back at me because of what I said about you and Zayla." Robin did not deny it anymore, saying,
"Well, when you touch the tail of a scorpion, you should have a taste of its poison."
Martin frowned deeply. Since he was a child, he has had to wait for Robin to get tired of Sabrina because Sabrina never got tired of loving him.
Now he was here trying to mess things up for him after Martin’s prayers had been answered. Martin could not fly with it.
"So how long is this revenge game of yours supposed to take?" He asked seriously. If there was something he could do for Robin to stop, he would gladly do it but it was not easy to stop Robin from doing something when his mind was set on it.
"For as long as I want but as for now, I have no intention to stop," Robin said seriously.
Since he suspected that Sabrina was carrying his child, he was going to protect her in any way he could.
"Was it not the reason why you bought the necklace for Sabrina at that outrageous price?" Martin asked.
He thought that was the greatest embarrassment but this is even worse. He did not regret going against Robin because it was something he has always wanted to do.
His only regret was his inability to operate independently.
Robin did not hide it from him and rather taunted him mercilessly, "For her, I was willing to spend more but you quit too early on. Are you stingy or you are just broke?"
Robin provokingly used the word broke, knowing that Martin was not in fact broke. He was just limited and that was to Robin’s advantage.
"You are being childish," Martin observed and said but Robin raised his brows as if surprised while he said mockingly,
"Really? Tell me about it."
Since Robin was bent on mocking him, Martin was equally ready to pull some taunts, knowing that Robin would not admit it.
"It’s just me and you here. Are you in love with your ex-wife?"
Robin has never seen himself as loving any woman, except Zayla, for the fact that she saved his life.
Concerning Sabrina, he could not explicitly explain how he felt about her, and that has been a constant mess of his emotions. He addressed Martin sternly,
"Mr. Dane, trying to protect her from the likes of you is not a bad idea."
"The likes of me?" Martin scoffed. Then he added bitterly, "You talk as if you are an angel when you are the one who hurt her the most."
He could not believe that Robin was trying to make him the bad one when all he ever did was love Sabrina, while waiting for the opportunity to show it to her.
Robin smiled vindictively,
"Don’t you think that you are acting all too righteous?" He raised his brows questioningly and Martin had no idea what he was up to. He responded seriously,
"Compared to me and you, I am a better match because I love her."
Robin laughed mockingly. He had zero tolerance for pretentious people and saw Martin as one of them. From the look of things, he could not continue being diplomatic about it and decided to call a spade a spade.
"If you truly love her, then why have you not told her about your sister?"
Robin glared at Martin and the latter froze. Robin smiled with satisfaction at his reaction before continuing to say,
"You look surprised but trust me, Mr. Dane, I know more about you than you know about yourself. When you can tell her about your sister, then we can have a proper talk."
Martin’s heart was already racing. He knew how much Devin hated Mara because of that fire. Even as an adult, Devin had mentioned a few times that he was not satisfied because Sabrina almost died in the fire and had not gotten any justice.
He went on to say that he wished he had seen Mara. Like he would make sure to equally lock her in a room and set a fire. Martin was afraid by then because he knew that Devin meant his words.
He also knew that everything Devin felt for him would turn to hate if he found out that Mara was his sister and was also alive.
This was the first time Martin was afraid. He was afraid of not only losing Devin but also Sabrina. They would loath him for hiding the woman who almost killed her and did not allow Sabrina to get any justice.
This would be worse because Mara had not changed and only gotten worse. She would never apologize and would rather want to finish what she started a long time ago.
Martin felt as if he fell into a pit. But how did Robin know? That information was well hidden and did Robin know about Mara’s location?
Martin had to do something. He shook his head and tried to hide his fears,
"I do not have a sister."
"You can tell that to Sabrina but not me, Martin Sula." Martin froze again at how Robin addressed him by his birth name. This time, his forehead was beaded with sweat.
Robin could indeed not be messed with. He was not just powerful but had all the knowledge he needed. He could crush anyone under his feet. Robin smiled at his discomfort and taunted once more,
"Have you told Sabrina the reason why you changed your name?" Martin trembled but once again, could not answer the question. Robin smiled a little and asked once more,
"I might be a Casanova but at least I don’t hide it. I don’t have secrets. So, Mr. Dane, how far can you go?"
Robin relaxed his back calmly on the chair and glared at him.
"What...what do you want?" Martin found himself stammering for the first time. Robin smiled,
"My request is simple. Stay away from my ex-wife."
Before Martin could agree or not agree, the sound of a slap was heard from Sabrina’s table, and both men turned their heads in that direction.
