Madelyn still did not know that Ethan was extremely worried and was looking for her everywhere in Ventropolis.
The first ray of morning light shone in from the window. Street vendors had already started their businesses in the street of the quiet old building. The scent of food could be smelled from a nearby location.
The quietness in the residential area was broken by several luxurious black cars that came and stopped there. George said, “Ms. Jent stayed here when she left her home. I think she’s probably here now.”

She said, “I’m sorry! I’m really sorry for making you worry… I didn’t think I’d make you worry for the whole night. I’m fine now. You should go back and get some sleep.”

After they had their breakfast, Madelyn brought Ethan to her bedroom. The room was clean and tidy. There was even a huge doll on the bed that was very eye-catching. The name sounded familiar to Madelyn. But she could not remember who the person was. Initially, she wanted to switch off the phone to avoid disturbing his sleep. But she decided against it, took the phone with her, and walked out of the room.
Meanwhile, Leyton came back into the apartment. When she was at the door, she saw Leyton sitting on the sofa. Upon seeing her, he stood up and greeted, “Ms. Jent.
He then looked at the phone in her hand. Madelyn nodded. She pointed at the closed bedroom door and spoke softly,” He’s still sleeping. Someone called him just now. I took his phone out because I feared it might disturb him. Can you check if it’s an important call?”
Leyton took the phone over, “You could actually answer the call.” Madelyn did not respond to it. She checked the time and said, “I need to go to school now.”
Leyton offered, “I’ll take you there!” Madelyn declined politely, “It’s fine. It’s just a few minutes’ walk. You stay here and take care of him. You didn’t rest well last night, either. You can lie down on the sofa here for a while. Though, I’m sorry you have to sleep on the sofa.”

As soon as Madelyn arrived at the school, many classmates greeted her. Even Mya asked her about what happened last night. She did not expect that just because she had not gone home for the night, many people would know about it.
Other than Mya, many people that Madelyn had never interacted with before pretended to be concerned and asked if she was fine. The Math Olympiad competition was around the corner. Madelyn did not want to dwell on certain matters. She just wanted to focus on her own matters.
In the SereneCare Hospital, Donna was eating fruits as she repeatedly made phone calls. She pondered, ‘I know Ethan doesn’t always mean what he says. It appears that he doesn’t care about me. But deep down, he still cares.
‘He merely used the Madelyn girl to make me angry. Or else, he wouldn’t have stayed here until so late last night. If the first time doesn’t count, what about the second time?
‘Is it so difficult for him to admit he still has feelings for me? I won’t lose the three-year bet if Ethan agrees to marry me. After all, our past is so memorable. He won’t so easily just forget about it!’
When Ethan woke up, it was already three-thirty in the afternoon. After he checked the time, he walked out of the room and smelled the aroma of food. Leyton greeted him, “Mr. Arnold.”

Ethan sat down. He was distracted due to a headache. He responded, “Leyton, do you think Madelyn is with me because she likes me, or is it merely because she doesn’t want to lose me as her protector? Logically speaking, she should be angry, right? Why did she act like she didn’t care?”
It was indeed a difficult question for Leyton. After all, he had never really been in love. He once had a brief relationship back in his university days. But the girl broke up with him because he was too cold and boring.
He joined the Arnold Corporation for an internship after he graduated. He then worked his way up to the position of the CEO’s assistant. He had to be on call twenty-four hours a day. So, he hardly had time to do any personal things, let alone dating.

Donna made countless phone calls. She was sure that Ethan had blocked her number. However, she still believed that he would come to her if something happened to her. Donna thought about something and called a nurse over. She handed her a phone number and said, “Do as I say.”
The nurse stared at Donna. After she dialed the number, the call was disconnected within half a minute. She said, “The phone number doesn’t exist.
“Impossible!” Donna stomped her foot. She then pressed the number on her phone and checked it before dialing it again. She could hear, “The number you’ve dialed doesn’t exist. Please verify the number and try again.”
Donna cursed, “Damn it!” She then quickly dialed another number in her phone contact. It was a virtual phone number. It was unanswered, too. She had forgotten that Ethan would only contact her when something important happened.
Donna was so angry that she felt like smashing her phone. For some reason, the school had decided to let everyone finish school before eight-thirty at night. Even the night self-study sessions had to end an hour earlier.
After the Math Olympiad training class, Madelyn, Jadie, and Mya walked together. They ran into students from other classes who had also just finished school.

Jadie ate half of the bourbon balls and got tired of it. She then pushed the bowl to Zach, “Zach, it’s too sweet. Can I try your pastina? You can have mine.
“It’s been so long since the three of us ate together. I miss this so much! In the past, Madelyn and I would always give you whatever we couldn’t finish. And you’d always tell us not to waste food.”
Rosario went to clean up the kitchen, leaving the three of them in the living room. Jadie was eating Zach’s pastina. But he did not eat her bourbon balls. He did not really like to eat sweet things, either.
Madelyn could not finish her pastina. She got up and wanted to walk to the kitchen. Zach said, “Madelyn, if you can’t finish it, you can give it to me.”
