Ch. 216..220: The Rogue is a Female Alpha chapter 216-220

Back Where 216“Yes. You stamp the last one,” he replied, then reached out to recheck. After a brief nod, he confirmed, “That’s all.”

Casually, he looked up but paused when he caught me staring at him. Chantel. He had worked through the reports with me, reading them out, and together we finished the task.

Somehow, I liked his interaction more than Baron, my cousin. I swallowed, thinking briefly about it. The possibility of him being appointed as my Beta. But I knew it was impossible, at least for now. Chantel was a full–blooded demon, hiding behind layers of dark spells to mask his true identity.

I lowered my gaze from his curious stare and stood. At the window, the horizon already hinted that morning was not far.

I sighed softly and walked toward the living room. What happened at midnight… I would make sure it never repeated itself. I wouldn’t turn a deaf ear to the warnings again.

Crossing the threshold into the living room, my chest felt lighter, and with it I let out a quiet breath of relief. My steps slowed when I saw my sisters, both asleep in their chairs, heads resting on the table.

Serena, angry as she had been, was only masking her fear. She had vowed to keep watch all night, declaring I had made her life a living hell, but I knew the truth. She simply didn’t want to leave me alone. She was scared.

Then my gaze shifted to Mearez, and guilt struck me like a blow to the gut. She should have been in her bed, resting from her journey, but here she was, keeping vigil for me, just as she had always done.

I took a step forward, but she stirred, lifting her head slowly. Her drowsiness vanished the instant she saw me standing there. She started to rise, but I raised a hand to stop her.

“Shh,” I cautioned softly. I didn’t want Serena waking. She would start all over again.

Quietly, I moved to Serena’s side and cased her head from the table, careful not to wake her. Gently, I slid one arm beneath her knees, lifting her easily.

She remained fast asleep in my hold, and I paused for a moment, simply watching her rest

before Mearez rose to follow me down the hall.

The maids rushed to open Serena’s chamber door, and I lowered her onto her bed. She stirred briefly, then settled again. I drew the blanket over her and lingered a moment, only to stop when her tender fingers curled weakly around my wrist.

I froze. Slowly, I leaned closer, caressing her face.

“I’m here now. I’m fine, Serena,” I murmured, kissing her lips softly. “Go on. Go

to sleep.”

Her eyelids fluttered, and she whispered drowsily,

“Are you okay?”

A lump rose in my throat, but I nodded.

“I am.”

That was all she needed. Her eyes closed, and she slipped back into slumber. I released a shaky sigh and turned, only to find Mearez standing in the doorway, watching.

I went to her and took her hand, guiding her back to her own chamber. Without words, I turned her gently and lowered the zipper of her gown. She stepped free of the dress, and I guided her into bed, pulling the coverlet over her.

My gaze fell on her arm, still wrapped with Jurrek’s cloth. I swallowed hard, shifting my eyes away, but when I looked back, I caught the tears slipping down her cheek.

“Lycannar… shouldn’t we inform my brother Hades?” she whispered.

I shook my head gently.

“You know he will be busy too. Don’t let us burden him with this. He’d only worry more.”

She nodded, sniffing softly.

“Lycannar,” she whispered again, eyes fixed on me. “I love you so much. I care about you too much. My brother Hades, Serena and you. I would die before I allow anyone to hurt you.”

Her devotion was tender yet fierce, a fire beneath her serene appearance. I knew she meant every word and would keep it no matter what.

I cupped her cheek, caressing it gently.

“You mean the world to me too. You, Serena, and My brother Hades. I would die before I let

harm come to any of you.” I kissed her lips and pulled back, stroking her face with my thumb. “You must rest now. I don’t want to see you working until you’ve healed from that scratch. If you leave this chamber, it is only to me or Serena. No strain until you’re fully well. Do you understand?”

She nodded at once, and I kissed her temple.

“Go to sleep,” I said softly, and she obeyed, closing her eyes.

Within moments, slumber overtook her. Relief washed over me as I watched her for a while before rising quietly so as not to wake her.

I slipped out and returned to my Black tower. Chantel had gone to his own chamber, but the reports were neatly arranged for delivery. My gaze lingered on them, then drifted to my bed.

I lay down, staring at the canvas above me. The sketch of the woman who consumed me. The woman I was obsessed with, body and soul. Zephyrine.

My chest grew heavy again, for I remembered my proposal. She had not answered. Not a word.

Perhaps she didn’t want a cursed man as her husband.

Perhaps she didn’t want to spend her life in this gilded exile I called home.

Maybe… maybe she didn’t want me at all.

Back Where 217We were called to wash your aunt’s laundry, my lady Kostyra. Since I was less busy, I decided to help Selia, one of the three maids that came with Madam Isolde. When I got there, I caught that scent on her dress, the one she had just pulled off after riding into the pack in her carriage. I recognized it immediately as the scent of Luna Tahlia. That’s how I knew it was from Blackbridge pack. After we finished the laundry, Selia was summoned in by Lady Kostyra, and I swear I never meant to eavesdrop until I heard the names ‘Zephyr and Apex. I knew it was about you and my king. I mean, she could speak of you since you are her niece, but my king… both of you at once? I grew suspicious. I overheard Selia saying Princess Mearez and the Dusks had already arrived and seemed to be awaiting your arrival with Lord Varyn. Lady Kostyra replied with a scoff that you would be dead with my king in Blackwater. That the mission would not succeed.”

I sighed, staring at the sun rising in the horizon, glorious and golden as if to bless us all. Yesterday had been drenched in rain, but today the sun chose to bless.

I had not slept at all. How could I, when I learned last night that my aunt was the betrayer, plotting to wipe me and my brother out? Even the Lycan King.

I stirred in bed, my eyes lowering to Blue, loyal to the point of fault. Loving and respecting her king to the edge of reason.

I reached down to drape the blanket over her, only for her to stir and open seeing me in the sunlight, she sat up. This content belongs to FιndNovel.net

I didn’t respond with words. I only smiled, and she rose to her feet. Slowly, she headed into the bath chamber to wash her face.

After she departed, the door opened and Isolde entered, head bowed with the three maids.

“My lady, good morning. We will prepare your bath now,” Isolde said, moving toward the chamber, but I held out my hand to stop her.

“Among you… who is Selia?” My voice was curt, just as Blue returned from the chamber, her face fresh and clean.

The three maids froze, and Isolde turned to them, then back to me in confusion.

“My lady…”

“Who among you is Selia?” I cut her off, repeating the question.

Tension fell heavy until one stepped forward. A brunette with an innocent face, one that could never be mistaken for a villain. A spy.

She bowed, and I stared at her for what felt like eternity. Her. She had given my enemies words. If Lycannar hadn’t been as skilled as he was back in Blackwater, we would be dead alongside Varyn.

I bit my lower lip and beckoned her forward.

“Come. Sit,” I said gently, but she knew it was a facade. She could feel it. I saw it in the way she hesitated, stepping back, only for the door to open again. Dessyn entered, urgent.

“Zephyr, your aunt demands to see Varyn.”

Hearing this, I lifted my gaze and shook my

head.

“No one sees my brother except those already allowed.”

“She won’t comply. She insists.”

My jaw tightened. If that’s the case, then I must resort to the last solution.

I reached for my sword, the rare blade I rarely drew from behind my bedframe. Gasps filled the chamber as I stood, my eyes fixed on Selia, the spy.

“Walk,” I ordered. She shivered, obeying at once, moving toward the exit. I followed slowly, my sword dragging against the floor until we reached the hall. My aunt was there, arguing with Jurrek who blocked her path.

“Varyn is my nephew. I must see him!”

“You won’t be seeing my brother, Aunt,” I said from where I stood. She turned, freezing when she saw me. As I approached, she stiffened and began backing away until we stood in the open space.

Pack members nearby froze, confusion painted on their faces.

I stopped before her. Her face had gone pale, though she forced herself to remain defiant.

“What do you think you are doing, Zephyr? How dare you keep my own nephew from me?!”

Her words made me lose my temper. I turned to Selia, who thought she had found safety at a distance. She was wrong.

“Jurrek,” I called, and my beta rushed forward, confused but never questioning.

I passed him my sword, then slowly walked to Selia, taking her hand tenderly.

“Tell me… what have you been telling my aunt about me? Go on. Speak.”

She shuddered, her face draining of color. Her eyes darted to Aunt Kostyra, who subtly signaled to her. Selia turned back to me, shaking her head, collapsing to her knees in pretense.

“My lady… I have never spoken to your aunt about anything. I have…”

She was still speaking when I drew my blade from its sheath. In a blink, her throat was cut open. Gasps erupted around us. Blood spilled, and she gagged, staring up at me in disbelief.

I gently dropped the sword and lowered myself, pulling her into my arms, patting her back softly.

“Rest now. Rest.”

As though obeying, she leaned into me and died. Her body turned cold, blood soaking my gown and fingers.

I stood, shoving her body aside like filth, and turned to my aunt. Her defiance cracked at last, fear overtaking her.

From Lycannar I had learned one lesson. The easiest way to solve a problem is to remove the threat.

I seized her wrist, my gaze hard.

“You… you’ve let that cursed king turn you into… into a maniac,” she stammered. “You killed… an innocent girl.”

Bitterness clawed at my throat, but I pressed on.

“Tell me, Aunt. You went to Blackbridge pack. What did you do there?” I raised the sword. “I

swear I won’t hesitate to…”

“You are not fit to be Alpha!” she spat, adrenaline forcing her confession. “The prophecy is true. Being with that cursed king will bring chaos to us all. And now it’s happening. Warrior June of Blackbridge pack will be hanged at the market square tomorrow because of you and the cursed Lycan King! Because he refused to stop you both. His blood will be on your hands.”

She trembled violently. I swallowed hard, then turned to Jurrek.

“Have men Guard her quarters. She must not leave the pack until I say so. And no one sees my brother besides the Dusks, Blue, Isolde, you and me.”

Jurrek, as always, did not question. He bowed.

I left, heart pounding at the word again.

Prophecy.

That same prophecy I heard from the council members?

What prophecy?

Back Where 218

I arrived at Luna Tahlia’s abode that bright morning to stop. I had taken my bath, changed my clothes, and tried to relax, but I felt nothing like peace.

I knocked at the door, and as though she had been waiting for me, it flew open and she appeared in the doorway, horror written across her face. This text is hosted at Find_Novel(.)net

Our gazes met for a moment before I looked past her to the maid carrying young Black. I bypassed Luna Tahlia and took the baby gently from the maid.

The little hand tangled in my hair as he always did; his soft coos soothed my chest in a strange, immediate way, and I smiled, softly.

Then the old verdict surfaced in my mind. The moon goddess’s curse that I could not bear children until I found my second mate.

I sighed now, wondering about the talk of prophecy. The council members had murmured it once and I’d called it bluff. My aunt had repeated it and I would call it bluff too. Yet the doubt still pricked.

I handed the maid young Black carefully; she accepted him and excused herself from the small, cozy living room. Slowly I turned to see the true Luna of Blackbridge pack standing there, staring at me awed, wondering, in utter disbelief.

“Your brother is the wounded warrior Kaela sold to Blackwater?” she asked, and I swallowed. “My gods, Varyn Ashmere… is the one she sold?”

She could not believe it even as she spoke. She stepped closer to me.

“I’m sure Kaela never knew who he truly was. I… I am so sorry, Alpha Zephyrine.” Her words washed over me, but I had come for another reason.

“You know Warrior June?” I asked.

Her brow creased in surprise.

“He’s the commander of the Blackbridge army”

“He is going to be executed tomorrow morning at the market square. His offense is he refused to lead a battle to slaughter the Lycan King and me, because he would not repay me for standing up for Luna Tahlia by dueling a rogue to the death.”

1 paused to watch her reaction. She paled.

“Now I know you won’t be able to do anything but watch him die. I can’t save him. An Alpha has limits when it comes to another pack’s affairs but you are the true Luna of Blackbridge. Your presence alone can not only save him but restore your right. He will be hanged tomorrow. I came to warn you that his blood could be on your hands, not mine.”

She reddened with grief, but I did not wait for her tears. I turned to leave, but her voice caught

me.

“Everyone believes I left Blackbridge the moment I caught my husband in bed with a woman. No. I stayed and watched it all. I had to endure it for my son.” Her shoulders sagged under the grief she had kept hidden. “Kaela returned from her so–called mission and walked into my husband’s bed. I had to swallow that humiliation while newly delivered. She only came to host the party for Young Black’s naming ceremony, but she crawled into Black’s life in disguise.”

Bitterness etched her words; tears shimmered in her eyes.

“I know Black is manipulated. I know Kaela is evil. I know her father plots and her mother is colder than ice. Destruction follows them. Little by little she began to issue orders and act in my place. I tried to save my marriage. I went to the council but no one stepped forward. Instead, they gave Kaela more power, and the next day she threatened me if I tried to block her, she’d exile my son to the worst reaches of this shifter empire. I have no one but my old mother. I had to flee for my life. For my son’s life.”

She stepped closer and asked, voice trembling,

“I was betrothed to Black since childhood. We are not mated. My father and my father–in–law were best friends. I was trained in the etiquette and the ways to lead my people,” she swallowed and shook her head. “But I was never taught how to endure the threat to my child’s life. For Young Black… I will not fight.”

Goosebumps rose along my skin. I could not share her exact fear for a son, but I understood the bone–deep terror. She had one child; she had resigned herself to the loneliness of a widow and single mother.

I searched her eyes and felt the need to offer a solid backup. What solid backup did she need more than me? No. What did she and I need more than the Lycan Kingdom?

I took her hand; my chest heaved as I spoke.

“I know a man who answers threats with death. He answers disorder with order. He is a king, and he is merciful when he chooses to be.” I squeezed her hand, firm. “What if I promise you that I and this king will stand behind you? What will you do?”

“Then I’ll take the next carriage and appear at the market square tomorrow morning to save Warrior June, who is still my ally, and to save the pack that belongs to my son.”

My heart swelled at the fire in her eyes. I stepped back toward the door, calling over my shoulder.

“A carriage will be ready for you tomorrow. Blackbridge is yours, Luna Tahlia. Young Black’s birthright. Gone are the days when we were soft enough to let Kaela steal what was ours. Not anymore.”

Back Where 219

I woke lazy and utterly weak; all I wanted was to stay in bed and never move. But my uncle’s voice from down the stairs forced me up.

The sun had settled over the shifter empire and I was grateful for it. A beautiful day, it seemed, yet I felt anything but well.

I rose from the chair where I’d been sitting alone and carried the reports down the stairs. Slowly I descended to find him waiting with the elders.

Baron, my beta and cousin, stepped forward to take the reports from me. I let him have them, careful not to touch him. He took a step back, and I watched them quietly before turning toward the stairs to mount them when my uncle’s voice cut through.

“You seem unwell, Your Majesty.”

I paused, not replying. I started up the stairs when Baron’s sudden voice came, sharp.

“You approved the reports without me?”

I stopped and raised a brow. Why did he sound angry, so… authoritative? Accusing?

“Why would you approve those reports without the presence of your Beta, Apex?”

Apex. The name they’d all heard my brother Hades call me. One that stuck. Even my father who tried to make Lycannar stick failed. They all thought it was a nickname, but no. It was my

name.

Wait… is Baron okay?

I turned to stare at him. My uncle’s voice pitched in, smooth and steady.

“Well, he can approve reports without you, Baron, but he looks ill.” He looked up and smiled. “Your Majesty, why not give your Beta the royal seal so he can handle today’s reports?”

The question hollowed the room. I swallowed the bitter in my throat and met my uncle Dareth’s unwavering eyes. My gaze slid to the elders, and finally to Baron.

“Get it, Your Majesty,” my cousin said. “I will take care of today’s reports and return the royal

seal when I am done.”

“Go wait for me in the royal chamber. I will come with it,” I said. My gaze lingered on him a long moment, then I turned and walked to my bedchamber, to the sacred stand where the crown and royal seal rested. The inheritance from my father, the former King.

I swallowed and took them both, crown and seal, and headed for the royal chamber.

Few knew my curse. Very few knew my true nature. Among them were my uncle Dareth and my cousins. They knew I was a hybrid, but they did not know I shifted into a ravenous beast once each month. My father had kept it secret; my siblings had followed his lead.

Walking toward the throne chamber with the crown in its sealed glass case drew every eye. Golden and sacred.

I arrived to find them waiting. My eight elders, my uncle Dareth, Baron my beta. They stared at me as if I’d lost my mind, perhaps I had. For days they’d asked for the seal. Why?

“You want to be king?” I asked Baron, extending the golden crown to him. “Take it. Put it on.”

“What in the world are you doing, Your Majesty?” my uncle demanded, stepping forward. I ignored him. My hand remained outstretched.

“Take it. Put it on and sit on that throne.”

“Apex!” my uncle snapped. “What in gods name are you…”

“He wanted it,” I cut him off, turning to stare. “Isn’t that what you all wanted? Baron to rule? Isn’t that what you elders wished? Why you have been straining me for the Royal seal?”

Tension charged the room. The air shivered.

“Watch your tongue, Apex,” my uncle warned as he stepped closer, leaning in. His whisper was venomous. “We all know you were never meant to be king. Son of a King and a queen, yet, you belong nowhere. I still do not know why my big brother did not kill you when he had the chance.”

Those words were meant to pass, but they landed in my chest and would not leave. I met his eyes and swallowed.

“You hate me that much, Uncle?” I asked, the voice choked out sadly,

“Hate?” He chuckled bitterly. “You are a stain on our bloodline. Not fully Abyss, not fully Blood. Only the gods know how monstrous your offspring will be. We only ask out of mercy for you hand over the royal seal. Why didn’t you when we asked?.”

offspring tore something inside me. I felt like fleeing, but his last question held me fast.

Why had I not handed over the seal when they asked?

“Because the ten seconds after Baron sits on that throne… he will die.”

Silence slammed into the chamber. My uncle snapped. He lunged to the chair at the meeting corner and flung aside, just when my two sisters burst in, aghast.

“Lycannar!” Mearez cried, rushing to my side. “What is happening?”

Before anyone could answer, my aunt Eiryn dashed in.

“What is going on here?” she demanded, breathless from the alarm that must have spread through the kingdom.

“You heard what your king said? This cursed man, abandoned by the moon goddesses, who would bring ruin?! Can you imagine what he said?” Uncle Dareth rasped, voice rising.

“Excuse me, Uncle Dareth, you will not speak to the king that way,” Serena stepped forward, but before anyone could speak more, Baron’s voice cut in.

“Bring the crown. I will wear it and prove you wrong, Apex.”

Gasps flooded the chamber. A challenge, brazen and public, offered before the golden crown and our lineage.

I extended the crown. He opened the glass case with reverence, lifted the crown, and set it on his head. He strode to the throne and lowered himself into it like a lord, a smile curving his lips.

Nothing happened and My uncle sneered.

“You see? You see…” he began, but as the seconds ticked, the massive crest of the Lycan Kingdom shifted on the wall. It lurched, lost its balance, and crashed down, heavier than any expectation, slamming straight toward the throne.

For a heartbeat I thought to let Baron be smashed, but I surged forward and hauled him free at

the last second.

The crest smashed onto the throne behind him, shattering and splintering across the floor. Baron stumbled, the crown tumbling from his head and rolling until it came to rest at my feet.

Silence fell. Heaviest than anything. My chest tightened as I stared at the fallen crown. The golden circlet, the curse.

Slowly, I reached down to lift it.

“Say anything about my offspring again, uncle,” I warned as I straightened, “and I will make you weep for one of your own.”

Back Where 220

Silence. My pack was unusually silent today. It was as though even the members themselves were afraid of the Alpha’s wrath.

I know why. I know how. I had slaughtered Selia before the public, and everyone witnessed it.

It’s… only reasonable for them not to get on my nerves today. I had just left Luna Tahlia’s abode, and I had sent for Jurrek Bane.

We must prepare to return Young Black to where he belongs, to move Luna Tahlia from a hidden resident back into the true Luna that she is.

I walked to my bed and was about to sit when the door opened, and Isolde entered gently, her head bowed.

“M…my lady. Beta Jurrek is here to see you.”

Her voice shook, and I sighed at it. Gently, I stepped toward her, grateful when she didn’t pull away as I took her hand.

Slowly she looked up at me, almost reluctant, and I smiled softly into her face.

“Isolde,” I began quietly. “You’ve been my attendant since I was very young. There were times after I returned these past five years that I doubted you, and today I want to apologize for that. I won’t spill innocent blood. Those who died by my sword deserved it. You know this, don’t you?”

In response, she stared at me in silence, then reached to take my hand, patting it softly.

“My…my lady. You’ve been bottling up too much and carrying far more than any woman should bear. Perhaps you should… take a break, leave the burdens behind, and enjoy yourself for the first time. For once, think only of yourself, what makes you happy. Don’t you think?”

Without waiting for my reply, she walked out, leaving me in thought. Maybe it’s… time?

The door opened again, and Jurrek walked in. Staring at him, my heart clenched, and somehow the decision was made. I moved toward the bed and sat gently.

Jurrek’s eyes were on me. He didn’t speak, and I swallowed before looking at him.

“You probably think I’ve gone crazy,” I muttered, but he only smiled, surprising me.

“I thought you’d gone crazy the moment I heard you were in a relationship with the cursed Lycan King.” He stepped closer, his smile faint and sad. “And now, I believe you’ve completely gone mad with… with what life has pushed into your possession.”

He reached for my hand, his smile dimming. I met his eyes, hearing the sigh escape him.

“She’s a spy?”

“To my aunt, and my aunt to Kaela,” I murmured softly. “Kaela… sold Varyn, Jurrek. To Blackwater. It’s complicated somehow, but once my brother wakes and steadies, he’ll break every chain of lies in every corner. The Ash Pack… will return to what it was always meant to be.”

He froze, shocked, words failing him.

“Have a carriage ready to depart tomorrow morning, Jurrek. For Luna Tahlia. Give her guards to protect her life and Young Black’s. Dead will rise tomorrow, and stolen glory will return.”

***

“Are you sure you won’t be coming with me?” I asked Blue again, but she shook her head,

certain.

“I’ll stay with Lord Varyn and brew his potion,” she replied, making me smile.

I had already prepared to ride off. I was leaving for the Lycan Kingdom. I needed to be in my man’s arms. For a thousand reasons.

The first, because I could feel his sadness through the amulet. The second, because I have to give him response to his proposal, thirdly because I couldn’t sleep without him anymore. And the rest of the thousand… because I loved him, and he loved me. I was his, and he was mine. Chapters first released on finḑnovel.net

Blue fastened my cloak and stepped back to look at me, smiling.

“My king will look at you more than once, my lady.”

Her words made me smile, and I stepped back just as the door opened and Dessyn walked in.

“Best friend, I heard you’re going home?”

“Yeah,” I replied. “First, I’ll go to the Lycan Kingdom. Tomorrow, I’ll meet with Luna Tahlia. She’s making her comeback. After that, I’ll visit White Pack to check on Father and Alpha Auedric. I’ll return afterward.”

She nodded, running her fingers through her hair in exhaustion. It showed in her face. The

I lowered my gaze, hearing her say,

“Deal.”

She smiled and walked out, leaving me to swallow hard.

After a few minutes, I headed to my carriage with Blue walking beside me. But as we passed the hall, I had to pause. Each time I bypassed his bedchamber, I lost the ability to breathe.

If I dared step into that chamber with him, I would lose everything and cry. Because he was my brother, and I had failed him for five long years.

Fleeing was the only way to stay sane. That’s why I was fleeing, into the arms of Lycannar.

I reached the carriage under the bright late–morning sky and climbed in. I had already bid farewell to Jurrek, and since I wouldn’t be late, there was no need to bid farewell to the Dusks.

I smiled at Blue, and she smiled back.

“Have fun,” she said before letting down the carriage curtain.

I sighed, leaning back in my seat, allowing myself to savor the comfort of the carriage Lycannar had gifted me as we set off toward the Lycan Kingdom.
