That was the first confession that shattered the hall that day. In the center of it all, before thousands, she dropped to her knees and begged.
but “The envoy of peace everyone knows me as… it wasn’t a complete lie. I was an envoy, between here and the Demon Realm. I delivered sealed letters back and forth, never realizing they were written to stir war already agreed upon. When the mission ended, the Council ordered me to lay low for years, to make my mission of peace believable. With no funds left to support myself, I turned to an ugly solution. Their last order was to kill Varyn Ashmere. But I didn’t. Instead, I sold him to Blackwater, bartered his body for my comfort these past five years.”
It was done. The awe flooding the Wolf Fortress was palpable. She confessed without hesitation. I had expected her to twist, to deceive, to cling to cunning, but no. She was surrendering.
“After
my return, I not only sought to usurp Luna Tahlia’s place, I threw myself into her husband’s bed, the late Alpha Black.”
“My gods…”
“How treacherous…”
“She is vile!”
Murmurs spread like wildfire among the packs. My eyes slid to Luna Tahlia, standing tall with her son in her arms. She blinked back tears, listening as Kaela pressed on.
“We copulated many times and…” She paused. The silence choked the fortress. Even Nyroth looked struck dumb. “A few days before his death, I realized, I was pregnant with Alpha Black’s pup.”
Tension smothered the room. I froze, turning toward Luna Tahlia, who stood pale as stone.
“Liar!” the Luna spat. “Black never impregnated you! Do not worm your way back in after everything you’ve done! You were rutting with Alpha Nyroth of Hue Pack too!”
Kaela faltered at that, but only for a breath. Then, to my shock, her eyes brimmed with tears. False tears, but convincing enough.

“Luna Tahlia…” she said softly. The woman stepped back as though stung by her pretense. “I know you never loved me. And yes, I’ve sinned against you. But I beg you. Please accept me back into Blackbridge. My father and I will not trouble you. And the child within me will never hinder your son’s claim. Please, I beg you.”
Luna Tahlia was speechless. Politics twisted truth into rot. Justice bent before all eyes.
Slowly she turned to me, desperate. I swallowed.
“You were with Nyroth of Hue Pack, Kaela. Everyone knows. And your time with Alpha Black ended months before his death…”
I spoke, but Lady Sylvara cut across me.
“Young Black will be reinstated as Alpha of Blackbridge. Luna Tahlia will rule in his stead until he comes of age.”
Lord Osmir added, “Kaela Yadev, her father, and the rest of their line will remain in Blackbridge. It is their pack too. And she bears the late Alpha’s pup.”
Lord Eryndor finished, “We cannot drive them from their rightful pack, can we?”
My knees nearly buckled. Injustice. Naked.
I turned to Luna Tahlia. Her eyes fixed on the Imperium Council, then hardened as she shook her head.
“You call this justice? You call this a trial?!”
“You have what you wanted, Luna Tahlia. You will rule Blackbridge,” Lady Sylvara snapped.
“What of my name dragged through mud?!” she burst out. “My mother died under false accusations! If not for Zephyrine Ashmere, I would never have survived!”
Tears streaked her face as she trembled.
“My mother’s house was burned to ash. I lived as the dead, hiding with my child for weeks. Have you ever once asked why? Have you thought of the hand behind it?” She gasped, broken. “The Yadevs are destruction itself. But now I see… you are worse.”
“Choose your words carefully, Luna Tahlia,” Lady Sylvara warned coldly. “We are merciful to let you
rule. We do not even know if that son is truly Black’s. Be satisfied with the crumbs we ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ⓝovelFind.net

Defeat hollowed her eyes. Her lips trembled as she turned toward me.

“I will not return to Blackbridge, Alpha Zephyrine. Not if the Yadevs remain.” She shook her head, clutching her boy. “I cannot.”
I swallowed, my chest aching. I was the one who told her to stand, and here she was, broken under the weight.
My gaze fell to the child in her arms, and chills raced my skin. Then I lifted my eyes to the three Council members, my voice sharp enough to cut through stone.
“The Imperium Council has no right to dictate the will of a pack against its rightful blood. You are unfit to rule us. You committed crimes against Ashmeres. That alone condemns you.”
The air shifted. My brother moved from the shadows. I stilled, bracing. Here it was. At last, he would stand beside me, shatter lies, expose truths, bring light into this darkness…
“The Imperium Council is the least of our worries, little sister. The one who slew our father on the battlefield is.”
The words cut me cold.
“What?” My voice shook. “The Council killed our parents and our warriors. Railan himself led the slaughter at the camp…”
“Father didn’t die in the camp, Zephyr.” I froze. His gaze burned through me. “He died by the blade of the Lycan Prince.”

I paused. No. Everything in me froze. Time stopped for me, and somehow everything else faded, leaving only me with my brother, who had just spoken words I could not even make light of.
I stared at him blankly for a while and suddenly burst into laughter. Did he just…? I punched him playfully in the chest, giggling.
“What are you talking about? The Lycan Kingdom has no prince. Lycannar has no pup yet.” I told him, still giggling, but then it hit me.
The world that had slipped away returned all at once. The tension thickened. The seriousness. on my brother’s face.
The way he only looked at me with… pity and concern, as though worried how I would take this news. That alone made my laughter fade.
“Five years ago, Zephyr, the Lycan Kingdom had a prince. We all knew him as Apex, and he came to the battlefield on that bloody day.”
“To save you,” I murmured, nodding, swallowing at the same time. I stepped backward, realizing my heart was thudding too fast. I felt dizzy, but I held on. I tried to focus. “Lycannar told me everything already. He said… he, uhm…”
I waited, sighing shakily. For a moment I allowed the emotions to settle. Then at last, I looked up at my brother, steady now.
“Lycannar Blood is the Lycan Warlord.”
“I know.” My brother’s voice was firm. “He commanded three hundred and fifty soldiers. Together, they never once lost a battle. I met them on the battlefield.”
“Lycannar came late. It was full moon, and he said something about not being able to move freely on that day. He arrived late. He arrived when the battle was already over. He came to inform the Ashmeres that the battle was instigated by our own people. By our own kind. Before he even reached our camp, it was already burning. That man over there.” I pointed at Railan. “He raided it. They cornered you. It was the Council’s order, Varyn. They…”
“Apex killed our father, Zephyr.” My brother cut me off quietly, his gaze boring into mine. “He slaughtered him before my very eyes. In battle it would be fair if he fought fair, but Apex didn’t. He was a monster. He had fangs. Wings. Different from demons, different from Lycans. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ find~novel~net

He killed our father right in front of me, and he is the greater threat. Not these ones. The Council promised us freedom if we turn our blades against the Lycan Kingdom. And we will. We will take revenge, and only then can we return to our people.”
His words came, but I couldn’t hear them. Couldn’t accept them. All I felt was dizziness, a hollow ache spreading inside me. I didn’t know how, but I felt like… dying.
“Lycan didn’t kill our father,” I murmured, almost to myself. “You are mistaken, Varyn. The Council did. They sent him to an unfair fight against the Abyss. They raided the camp at night, when we were vulnerable.”
“Zephyr…”
you said “You wrote it in your letter, Varyn!” I cut him off firmly. “I saw it, I read it. In there someone saved you. A monster, whatever you called him, but it was Lycannar. He saved you from being killed on the Council’s order. He saved you again in Blackwater. If it wasn’t for him, or for his sister, gods bless their souls, we wouldn’t be here today.”
I hadn’t realized the tears were already spilling, burning my cheeks. I wiped them off quickly, refusing to let myself tremble.
“I know you hate that I chose a Lycan as my beloved. But I promise you, he is a thousand times better than my ex–mate ever was. He treated me well. He loves me. To the world he is cursed, but with me he is kind, supportive, loving. He is the most humble man I know. A benevolent king, adored by his people. He is not a monster, and he wasn’t the one who killed our father. He bowed once before the Moonstone Vessle that carried their ashes. He respected them. He respects you. He cares. He would never…” My voice broke. “…never do that.”
Varyn did not speak. No one spoke. They only looked at me with emotions I hated. Pity. Worry. As though I had been lied to. Cheated. Deceived. Used.
Gently my brother reached for me, to pull me into his arms, but I pushed him away, swallowing hard. I did not want his pity. This was not why I wanted him here.
This was not why I wanted him here. Lycannar would never be my father’s murderer. No way would he have done that and not told me.
Those were the thoughts clashing inside me when Railan’s voice came from where he stood.
“I raided the Ashmere camps under orders, with my men. I slaughtered them. But your father
wasn’t there.”
“That’s because he died before they reached the camp, Zephyr,” Lord Osmir of the Council said flatly. “We made a bargain we now regret. We feared the Ashmeres were growing too strong, so we sent them into battle to eliminate them. We made a deal with the Demon King,
s
but instead it was the Lycan King who accepted.”
“He wanted his son dead,” Lady Sylvara added. “The Blood army alongside him. The battle was finalized before the full moon. The Warlord would not appear. Rumor was he was a monster, impossible to defeat on that night.”
“The battle was led instead by the Demon Warlord and few of Abyss warriors,” Lord Eryndor finished. “The Blood army was defeated. The Abyss Warlord captured. He was about to be executed when Apex arrived.”
My brother reached for my hand gently now, sealing everything.
“We would have won that battle, Zephyr. The Abyss underestimated the Ashmeres. The Blood army died first. We attacked, captured the Demon Warlord, and were about to claim victory. But Apex came. Different from anything I had ever seen. The full moon stripped his secrets bare and unleashed his strength. He killed Father in one strike. With that, Ashmere shattered. The formation collapsed. We returned to camp already broken. If only, Zephyr, if only he hadn’t come that day, the Ashmeres would have survived. The Council’s betrayal would have failed. They will all pay for their sins… but Apex pays first. With everything he has.”
Words that stunned me, confused me, stole my breath.
It was all becoming too real. They were serious. Every single one of them. And suddenly, standing became impossible.
Dizziness washed over me all at once, and I sank to the floor. But before I hit the ground, my brother caught me, holding me close, protective as ever.

I stared blankly into the space, my head resting on the pillow, as the door opened and closed. They moved about quietly, gathering the untouched breakfast and setting down lunch.
Six days had passed since the revelation, and yet I had not recovered from the shock. Instead, I lay in bed sick, stunned, numb.
Of all things in this world, in this empire, in this lifetime, Lycannar was the one I loved the most. The one I held in my heart the most. We slept together. We bathed together. We ate together, fought side by side together, yet what did he do?
With the most loyal heart I gave him, with the purest love I rendered, the most honest, the most joyful one… he had…
The thought paused. New tears stung my eyes, and I blinked them back only for them to spill, as all the others before.
No, I would not believe those words. Not until I heard him say it himself. Because I knew Lycannar would never do it.
He killed, yes. I knew. Sometimes his killings were unnecessary, but he would not have killed my father in war. I refused to believe anyone until… until he said it himself.
That was the thought I clung to every day, my only comfort. Yet truth and reality pressed closer and closer with each passing moment.
What made it worse was that Varyn isolated me. Dessyn, more or less imprisoned in his chamber.
Moon, forced to leave for training at the Moonveil Fortress, denied even the chance to say goodbye to me.
And my maids. ordered not to speak to me unless absolutely necessary. They obeyed. Too strictly.
I blinked when Blue came into view, setting the lunch table. She was just finishing when the sound of footsteps came from the hall.
A moment later, the door opened. Even with my back to it, I knew who it was. My brother. I could tell by the fear that flared in Blue’s eyes as she jolted at his presence, spilling the water she poured.

“I… I’m sorry, I…” she stammered, trembling as she tried to clean up the mess, but my brother’s
voice cut in.
“Leave.”
Cold. Firm. Devoid of warmth. Blue bowed her head and left at once, leaving the room empty.
So very empty.
And then I felt it. The weight of his eyes fixed on me in bed. Varyn’s. He had come each day. never questioning me. Always gentle. Always loving.
Softly, he walked up and lowered himself to sit beside me. He smiled warmly.
“Good afternoon.”
I lowered my gaze, unable to speak.
He reached to wipe the tears from my cheeks and said carefully,
“Little sister, there is someone I want you to meet.” I looked up, puzzled. “A physician. I’m worried for you. I want her to check on you.” Fresh chapters posted on find⁂novel.net
His concern looked genuine. After a moment, I nodded. The door opened, and a woman entered, bowing her head as she came to stand a few steps away.
Varyn looked at me tenderly.
“Can you
sit up?”
I tried, but he helped me, careful with my weak frame. He propped me against the headboard and gestured to the physician.
“My lady, I will only ask a few questions,” she said gently. “I need you to be honest, so I know which potion to prepare.”
I nodded slowly, waiting. She glanced at Varyn first, then turned back to me.
“When last did you have sex?”
I froze. Why… that question?
Blinking, I sighed softly, thinking.
“Uhm… seven days ago, I think. Yes.”

She jotted notes, then looked back up.
:.
“Have you ever taken a pregnancy–delaying potion before?”
This time I stared at her directly. Wait. What was going on?
“No,” I answered.
“How sexually active is he, when you make love?”

That question left the air still. I stared at the physician in silence, then slowly turned to my brother. The truth dawned. They were trying to see if I carried Lycannar’s child.
“I don’t want to do this, Varyn,” I muttered, looking into his eyes. He searched mine tenderly, reaching for my hand, but I pulled away, biting my lip. “I don’t want any of this.”
Our gazes locked. The façade of care slipped. He had tried to coax me gently, but now I knew he would force it if he must.
“Answer the question, Zephyr.”
“I won’t…”
“Zephyr.”
“I won’t!” I snapped, losing myself. I turned to the physician, fury in my eyes. “Why don’t you go to the Lycan Kingdom and ask the king yourself? Ask him how hard he gets, how long he lasts, how deep he thrusts into me. Go there and ask him!”
Silence fell. Heavy. Then, after a moment, Varyn signaled the physician to leave. She bowed shakily and slipped out, closing the door behind her.
I realized then I was trembling. My heart pounded painfully.
Varyn reached for my hand again. This time I didn’t pull away. I looked at him, and he looked back at me, tender, protective.
“I miss you, Zephyr,” he said softly. “This isn’t you. He made you like this. He lied to you. He the truth. And yet he still bedded you, even knowing he killed your father. Tell you me. will you give birth to his pup?”
never told
That question weighed on me, pulling sobs from my chest. My brother saw the crack and he used it. He climbed onto the bed and drew me into his embrace.
“Tell me, Zephyr. How far did he go to force you? Rape you? I need to know, so we can find a

solution at once.”
I sniffed, steadying myself. He pulled back, holding my hands, waiting patiently.
“First, Varyn… it wasn’t rape.”
“Zephyr…”

“What Lycannar and I shared… it was beautiful. It wasn’t rape. We made love. It was love, Varyn. He never forced me to the bed. Yes, he was aggressive at times, but never…” My voice broke. Emotion rose, but I pushed through. “Never like that.”
I breathed shakily, then whispered,
“I am not pregnant with his pup. After I became Alpha, these days… we only did anal.”
Varyn stilled at that. I looked into his eyes and I saw it. The promise that he would pay Lycannar back. Tenfold. A hundredfold. A thousandfold.
He gathered me close again, laying me down to rest in his arms.
“I’m here now, Zephyr. No one will reach you. No one.’

I woke with a start. Another restless slumber ending in nightmare and forcing me awake.
I opened my eyes to darkness. Alone in the chamber. My brother, who had rocked me to sleep, was nowhere to be seen. With a soft sigh, I rose carefully to answer nature’s call.
After relieving myself, I washed my face, then walked back into my chamber. On the table, I noticed a potion waiting for me.
“My lady?” The voice of Isolde came from behind. I turned to see her open the door. She walked further in, her head bowed in respect. “You are awake. Lord Varyn said, when you wake, you should take the potion before you eat.” Chapters first released on Find[ɴ]ovel.net
My eyes shifted back to the potion. I knew what it was for, but I did not believe I needed it. I was not pregnant with Lycannar’s pup.
Ignoring it, I pushed through the door into the hall. For days I had been locked inside my chamber. Now I made my way to my brother, to tell him there was no need for me to drink any potion.
I reached the door of his chamber and sighed softly. The maids and guards nearby stared, their gazes heavy upon me.
Ignoring them, I knocked. At first there was no answer. I raised my hand to try again, when suddenly the door opened, and it was Dessyn.
My eyes went wide. Before I could speak, she seized my wrist and pulled me inside, shutting the door quickly behind us.
Dessyn. My gods. It had only been a few days, but it felt like
years.
She turned, and I stared at her, reading her eyes. I had always believed when Varyn returned, Dessyn would be happy, no, happiest. But now I realized how wrong I was.
“Dessyn…” I began, but before I could finish, she pulled me into a tight hug. “Dessyn.”
She pulled back, searching my face, and I swallowed hard, wondering what had happened.
“Dessyn…”
“Varyn has changed, Zephyr.” She cut me off with the truth. “Vengeance… that’s all he lives for

now. And anyone in his way will be crushed in it. He hates Apex more than anyone, and I believe he is planning…”
Her words died when the door suddenly opened. Varyn stood there in the doorway.
Dessyn and I froze at once, the air growing chill with his presence. I swallowed, biting my lip. as Dessyn stepped quietly away from me.
“Uh… Zephyr. Ah. Your brother is here.” She stammered, her voice small.
I turned to him. Varyn’s gaze was pinned coldly on her. It was as though he scolded her in silence, and I wondered what my presence meant for her now.
“And I thought I said you were not to speak to anyone but me while you are in my chamber,” Varyn’s voice broke through as he stepped inside, his tone firm, brooking no warmth.
Dessyn tried to smile through it, taking a small step back.
“She only just got here, Varyn…” she murmured.
But he did not believe her. It was clear he had overheard her words to me.
He reached out for her. She flinched back, shaking her head, pleading softly. And then it dawned on me.
Perhaps truly, my brother had changed. He was not like this before. He had never been aggressive. He was always tender, warm, gentle.
But the fear in Dessyn’s eyes told me otherwise.
“Varyn, please…” she whispered, but he ignored her. He took her wrist anyway, pulling her into
his arms.
He kissed her, soft and tender. But when he pulled back, his eyes were so cold that the kiss felt like a price, a promise stolen back by his gaze.
“You are my woman. You will obey every word I say. Do you understand?” His voice was quiet, but the warning within was sharp.
Dessyn bit her lip and nodded at last.
“I understand.”
Varyn smiled then, caressing her cheek, smoothing over the tension like a man painting over cracks.

“When all this is over,” he said, glancing at me now with a smile, “we will hold a party here. Just a small one. To make her my wife. My beloved wife.”
A marriage between him and Dessyn. My throat tightened. I turned to Dessyn, but the spark of excitement I had always seen in her was not there. It unsettled me. Still, I lowered my gaze and swallowed hard.
Everyone was changing. Even their hearts. Just like me. I had changed too. The strong will I once had, the spirit Lycannar never ceased to say he loved and loved and loved, I was losing it.
When I looked up again, they were kissing, deeply, affectionately. Quietly, I walked toward the exit to give them privacy. But before I left, I heard the sound of fabric tearing.
My brother was stripping her. Taking her to bed.
I closed the door softly behind me, sighing shakily. It seemed to me Dessyn was more prisoner than woman, more captive than beloved.
And all of this, all of it, was because of that war five years ago. The war that left us brutal, changed us, warped fate, shattered hearts.
I returned to my chamber and lay down upon the bed until My eyes fell upon the white fur cloak Lycannar had given me the day of my ceremonial party.
The bold crest of the Lycan Kingdom gleamed upon it. My heart clenched, and memory seized me.
The night he gave it, when we had made love in the garden, when he had handed me letters exposing the council’s lies and Kaela’s true nature.
Slowly my gaze fell to the rings still circling my fingers. My heart ached. Even amidst this storm, I could not bring myself to pull them off.
Why do I love him this much?
Why does it have to be him?
Why…

The water soothed my skin, making my eyelids flutter shut. Serenity filled the air. The tension melted like wind, and I sighed softly, trying to escape reality.
But the reality I escaped only lured me into another fairytale of fantasy. A bliss I had once felt, that night that never came to pass again.
I missed him. Lycannar. I missed him so much I thought I might die, now that I sat in the pool that reminded me of him.
We had bathed together in this very pool, and here, he had proposed marriage to me. He had told me the price of saving my brother was for me to spend the rest of my life with him.
I swallowed hard against the bitterness in my throat and fluttered my eyes open with a shaky sigh.
“My lady, you can come out now,” Blue’s voice broke the silence. I lingered a moment before rising from the water, allowing her to wrap a towel around me.
She dressed me in my nightgown, left my hair damp, and guided me back toward my bedchamber, only for us both to freeze in the doorway.
Varyn was already inside.
He stood fully dressed, as though ready for an important meeting, no trace of the clothes he’d worn when he was about to make love to Dessyn.
His arms folded across his chest, he stood at the wardrobe side, eyes fixed on the white fur cloak Lycannar had once gifted me.
His jaw set as he stared at the crest embroidered upon it. Slowly, he turned to me and smiled.
That smile. The one he had used countless times to butter enemies into lowering their guard, the one that had won him wars without lifting a blade.
The smile of a strategist. Calculated. Deadly.
“It bears the Lycan Kingdom crest,” he said softly. “I didn’t know our designers here had begun weaving crests other than Ashmere’s.”
I swallowed, taking a step into the chamber.

“It was a present from Lycannar. For ascending the Alpha seat.
“Oh, really?” he asked as he moved away from the cloak, walking toward me. My breath hitched, my body pausing. “That was thoughtful of him, wasn’t it?”
His fingers circled my wrist. He pulled me gently to the dining seat and lowered me down. His hands brushed my shoulders, caressing lightly, easing the tension he had just stirred.
“Relax, little sister. Relax.” His voice was soft.
I swallowed.
He moved around and sat across from me, his smile steady.
“You should eat your meal. But before that, you need to take the potion.”
I hesitated.
“I am not pregnant, Varyn. Anal sex doesn’t impregnate women.”
His
gaze lifted sharply. That piercing gaze.
And then it softened. His brilliant green eyes dimmed with something else. He lowered his gaze, swallowed hard, and whispered,
“I failed.” The words startled me. “I failed in battle as strategist. I failed them as a son. I failed you as a brother.”
“Varyn…” I whispered, shaken.
He shook his head, sniffing hard. He fought it, but the tears came anyway, shattering me. “Leave us,” I said quickly to Blue. She bowed and slipped out, closing the door behind her.
My brother sat there, tears trailing his face as he leaned back against his chair, gaze distant. It was as if the memories dragged him back to that bloody day.
“We nearly won, Zephyr,” he said tiredly. “We nearly won. The victory was almost ours. Then he came. The formation I built was torn apart. The blood
army at the front fell in moments. To defeat the Abyss army, I had already drafted the plan. We almost had it, when he arrived.”
His jaw clenched at the weight of it. My own shoulders sagged under the bitterness.
“He sided with the demons. He had perfect ties with the Warlord of the Abyss. And he killed our father like nothing. Mother was there, Zephyr. She’s the war general. She saw it all. She

shattered before my eyes. When we returned to camp… we were never the same.”
“Varyn…”
s
“I asked myself how could I tell you? How would you survive hearing that Father was killed at the very strategy I built? How would I live, knowing I failed him?” His voice cracked. “Even the soldiers… seeing our father cut down so easily, they lost their spirit. Ashmeres became a joke.”
His voice dropped low.
“He clawed me, Zephyr. That wound never healed. That made me gwt weaken enough to be sold into Blackwater.”
I froze.
“He clawed soldiers too, and I swear to you, they dropped dead instantly.”
Slowly, he looked at me, his hand reaching, gripping mine with heartache.
“Apex Blood killed our father, Zephyr. He broke the Ashmeres. He is the greatest threat. Those council members? All their schemes, their betrayals, yes, they will die one by one. But none of them matter compared to him. Apex must pay for shedding our father’s blood.”
“Varyn…”
“He’s not a Lycan,” he confessed, shaking his head. “I’ve never seen anything like him. Have you seen him shift?”
A chill spread through me.
“Not really,” I whispered.
“You know he has fangs?”
Tears slid down my cheeks as I nodded faintly.
“You know he has wings?” I lifted my gaze, shaken, and he pressed again. “Do you know he has
horns?”
“Varyn… please…”
“You cannot marry such a man, little sister.” His voice hardened. “That Lycan maid in this pack… I don’t want her here. That carriage with his crest… I don’t want it in Father’s courtyard. That cloak… I don’t want it in
your
chamber. And…

“Those rings. Don’t you think it’s time you returned them?”

I shuddered. My heart paused in my chest as his eyes pinned me, waiting. The answer I gave would define his next move. His patience was thinning. And I understood his pain.
Lowering my gaze, tears trailed down.
“I will send back every gift he gave me. And the rings… I’ll return them tonight, Varyn.”
“And the potion to flush his seed out of your system?” he pressed.
A sob broke from me. My hands shook.
But without hesitation, I seized the potion and drank it down in one gulp.
When I looked back, he was rising from his chair. He came to embrace me warmly, holding me close.
“It is only you and I now, Zephyr,” he whispered. “And together, we will make them all pay. I
