Ch. 316..320: The Rogue is a Female Alpha chapter 316-320
Back Where 316
I never thought I’d be returning here so soon, but when the gates of the Ash Pack swung open for me, I couldn’t help but sigh, my shoulders sagging under the weight of it all.
Word of the war had shaken the very roots of the Shifter Empire, and the sights we’d witnessed had stolen our breath away.
We should’ve seen it coming from miles away, Zeph standing with Apex no matter what.
I’d noticed her wild, unshakable devotion to him since the first day she stepped into the Lycan Kingdom and he looked at her as though the rest of the world didn’t exist.
Now here I am, in the den of an angry wolf, Varyn Ashmere, come to demand back my foolish sister, who vanished after leaving a letter saying she’d relocated to the Ash Pack to meet her beloved Varyn.
I know better. The war strategist is toying with her head. He wants one thing, to make her life miserable, just as I made his, and from the looks of it, he’s succeeding.
My mother had been pale and trembling when she ordered me to bring Olivia home.
So here I am, back in this cursed place, and I can already imagine Varyn’s foul mood after losing miserably to his sister, the one who brought no army but a fire–breathing dragon.
My carriage stopped in the courtyard, and I stepped down quietly. I’d barely taken a few steps toward the guard when I was shoved aside by an enraged man storming toward the meeting hall.
Startled, I looked up and froze. It was Lord Osmir, one of the council members. For a moment, I frowned in confusion… until I remembered. His son, Railan, had been killed by Zephyrine. Official source is Find[ɴ]ovel.net
Oh. That explained the fury in his eyes.
Curiosity got the better of me. Forgetting my original purpose, I followed him into the meeting hall just in time to see Lord Osmir grab Varyn by the collar.
“You dare send my son to war and have him killed? You murderer…”
Before he could finish, Varyn snapped. With a violent shove, he sent the man sprawling to the ground.

“Did I drag your one handed son to the battlefield with my own hands?” Varyn’s voice started low, trembling with fury before rising to a roar. “Didn’t he insist on going? Did I ever force him?!”
The last question was followed by madness. In one swift motion, Varyn drew a knife from his boot and stabbed Lord Osmir, again and again, until the man’s gurgled breaths faded into
silence.
I stood frozen, staring at the lifeless body, my heart hammering painfully. When Varyn finally straightened, blood slick on his palms, I felt a cold chill crawl down my spine.
The gods help us. Varyn is on the edge of madness.
He paced for a moment, then stopped abruptly, turning toward me.
“I… I’m here for my sister,” I managed to say cautiously.
Varyn regarded me silently before nodding to a nearby guard. Moments later, footsteps echoed through the hall, and Olivia appeared.
She froze when she saw me, then her gaze dropped to Lord Osmir’s body. I waited for fear or disgust to twist her expression, for her to see the monster before her. That Varyn is someone she can’t get involved with.
But instead, she rushed forward to take his bloodied hand.
“Are you hurt? Is that your blood?”
My knees nearly buckled. What in the gods‘ names was happening? What had Varyn done to my sister?
Varyn’s eyes were distant, his mind still somewhere in the battlefield. Then he looked at me, almost defiantly, before turning back to her.
Gently, he cupped her cheek, brushing her skin with a tenderness that made bile rise in my throat. He leaned forward and kissed her lips softly.
“You should go home with your brother,” he murmured.
Olivia frowned, confused.
“What are you talking about? You said we were getting married.”
Married?!
Varyn’s hand fell to his side. His jaw tightened.
“You should go home. All I said were lies. I already have a woman.”

And as if on cue, Dessyn walked in, crossing the room to take his hand and kiss him, right in front of my sister. Olivia’s face crumpled in awe. Then all of a sudden, tears welled in her eyes as she turned and fled, sobbing.
Manipulation. That’s what this was. He wanted her heart broken, to make her feel the same agony his sister once felt. I suppose we’re even now, aren’t we?
“We’re square,” he said coldly, as though reading my thoughts. Then, after a pause, he added, “But I doubt your sister will recover. My own sister is strong. Yours is a weakling.”
His words cut through me like a blade. I was about to respond when another figure appeared at the doorway, handsome, broad–shouldered, commanding.
Jurrek Bane, Zephyrine’s Beta.
He stopped short when he saw Lord Osmir’s corpse, his expression hardening. Varyn didn’t flinch.
“Have the guards take the body away,” Varyn ordered. “And tomorrow morning, Jurrek, you’ll ride to the Lycan Kingdom. Bring Zephyr here. We need to talk.”
My stomach twisted. Just when I thought the war had ended, I saw it clearly in Varyn’s eyes. This was only the beginning. The first wave had ended. The second was coming.
And I couldn’t afford to be caught in the crossfire.
I turned toward the exit, my thoughts in chaos. I had another problem now. My sister, who would pay for my sins.
Oh gods.
Back Where 317
I wake up slowly, my eyes fluttering open to see him seated across the room at his writing desk.
Lycannar.
His gaze is fixed on me as though I’m a piece of art he can’t stop admiring.
For a while, neither of us speaks. The silence between us says all the words we cannot. I’ve heard his name whispered in fear and awe. I’ve learned his truth, his secrets, and yet I love him more for them. I’ve accepted every part of him, wanted him more deeply. No regrets. No doubts.
A small smile curves my lips.
“Good morning.”
He rises from the chair, crossing the room with that steady, graceful power of his. Sitting beside me on the bed, he reaches out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. His eyes soften as they meet mine.
“How are you feeling?” he asks gently.
I take a moment to listen to my body. I feel tired, a little dizzy even after waking but otherwise fine. Wait… fine?
“I’m hungry,” I murmur, still half–drowsy.
His lips twitch into a smile.
“I’ll ask the maids to bring you breakfast.”
He starts to rise, but I catch his hand, holding his palm against mine.
“Stay with me. Food can wait.”
Lycannar exhales softly and sits back down. His hair is damp. He must’ve just bathed.
“How long have I been asleep?” I ask quietly.
“Since yesterday,” he replies, brushing his thumb along my cheek. “I was worried I might’ve

gone too hard on you yesterday when I made love to you, but my sister said you were just exhausted.”
His words bring a flush to my cheeks, and he smiles when he sees it.
“I probably have morning breath,” I mumble, trying to turn away, but he leans in to kiss me
anyway.
“Silly,” he murmurs against my lips before pulling back, though there’s something different in his eyes now, something hesitant.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
He shakes his head, but I can feel the lie. I try to pull my hand away, but he holds on tighter, his expression torn between fear and resolve.
“I….. I don’t want to sound rushed,” he begins, his voice low. “I know the war isn’t over yet. I know you still have things to mend with your brother and your world, but…”
My heartbeat quickens. Whatever he’s about to say means something.
“Zephyrine,” he says finally, taking a breath, “let’s get married.”
The words hang in the air between us. His voice trembles slightly as he adds, “Let’s marry next full moon. Right after I introduce you to my father, on the same day, if he accepts. Please.”
Silence falls. I stare at him, searching for understanding, for the reason he loves me this fiercely, this desperately. But maybe love doesn’t need a reason. Maybe if it did, it wouldn’t be real. Because reasons can fade.
I lower my gaze, not in hesitation but in quiet acceptance. It’s time. I’ve wandered every corner of this empire, yet no place has ever felt like home except here, with him. Even the Ash Pack feels haunted, my bed there filled with nightmares.
When I look up again, I nod softly.
“Yes. Let’s get married.”
He goes still, almost afraid to breathe. Latest content published on FіndNovel.net
“Next full moon,” he repeats, his voice hushed. “That’s in less than five days. You’ll be my wife, and…”
“Yes,” I say again, smiling faintly. “Let’s be man and wife.”

For a moment, he simply stares, then bursts into motion. He rushes to his desk, pulling out parchment and ink.
1 raise an eyebrow, clutching the blanket around my chest.
“You’re writing?”
“To my mother,” he says, already scribbling with quick, cager strokes. “She’s at the far end of the Lycan Kingdom. I have to tell her about our marriage.”
His tone carries a rare happiness. When he’s done, he seals the letter and calls out a name.
“Chantel.”
His ever–mysterious bodyguard appears, bowing low.
“Deliver this to my mother,” Lycannar orders. “With respect. You know how strict she is.”
Chantel nods, takes the letter, and silently departs.
I’m still watching the door when I feel Lycannar return to the bed. I turn, and he’s smiling at me, grateful, soft.
“Thank you,” he says simply, his grin lighting his face.
I giggle quietly. He looks like a man who’s just won the world.
“Don’t make it sound like I’m doing you a favor. I love you. We love each other.”
“It’s still a prize,” he says with a playful shake of his head. “A man marrying a woman like you, strong, beautiful, kind, and brilliant. It’s a blessing for me, for this kingdom, and for our future pups. They’ll never want for anything and…”
“Lycannar,” I interrupt, smirking. “Breathe.”
He laughs, realizing he’d been holding his breath. Pulling me close, he hugs me tight and kisses my hair, before leaning back to gaze at me again, eyes full of layered love.
We’re lost in each other until a faint sound cuts through the moment. A pulse. A call. The bond between an Alpha and her Beta.
I still instantly.
“Jurrek Bane,” I whisper. “He’s here.”
:
Lycannar rises, strides to the window, and looks out.
The shift in his expression tells me everything.
Yes. Jurrek is here.
But why?

Walking into the dining hall, I found myself face–to–face with Jurrek Bane, who had been let in and directed there by Blue.
She bowed before me, and I gave her a small nod. She slipped away quietly, leaving me alone with Jurrek.
For a while after her departure, I couldn’t help but stare at him in curiosity and confusion. Why is he here?
“Are you okay?” That was the first thing he asked. He walked closer and reached for and I let him take it. “Tell me. Are you okay?”
“Until you came here,” I whispered honestly. “I know my brother sent you.”
my hand,
No sooner had I said those words than the princesses arrived. Princess Serena paused briefly in the doorway before walking over to pull me into a hug.
I gave Princess Mearez a smile, and she returned it. Silence fell afterward. An awkward silence between Princess Mearez and Jurrek. I used the moment to walk toward the long dining table and sit down.
I felt a bit dizzy this morning, probably from hunger. I hadn’t eaten properly in days. Not since Varyn resurrected and started causing chaos.
I was lost in thought until I felt a tender touch on my back. I looked up slowly to see Lycannar caressing my shoulder, a soothing warmth running down my spine at his presence.
I reached to cover his hand with mine, then turned to Jurrek, who had stepped forward and bowed to the King. Lycannar returned the gesture.
“I heard you’ve not been well,” Jurrek said to Lycannar.
“I’m fine,” Lycannar replied, and Jurrek sighed, almost in relief.
Then he walked around the table to stand across from me, his eyes fixed on mine.
“Lord Osmir is dead.”
I froze at those words.

“Lord Osmir of the council?” I asked. He nodded, and I raised an eyebrow. “How?”
“Varyn stabbed him several times in a fit of rage, Zephyr.”

Cold chills ran down my spine, and Lycanmar’s touch on my shoulder grew more tender, as if he could feel my tension.
What is happening now? For Varyn to stab Lord Osmir, it means everything is completely out
of control.
Lord Osmir might be shrewd and manipulative, but he was still a council member, someone whose words we were bound to respect to a point. And now Varyn had killed him? In a rage? Then the gods help us.
“It’s about time they start dying,” I murmured under my breath. “They’re the real architects of evil.”
“Zephyr…” Jurrek’s voice came now serious, heavy. I found myself unable to look at him.
I didn’t want to face it. Somehow, I could already sense what was coming, and I didn’t want to acknowledge it.
“Your brother demands an audience,” he finally said, and I slowly looked up. “Today, without fail. He wants to speak with you and I can tell you this for free it’s a declaration of war. He won’t stop until the Lycan King is dead. He won’t stop at all. I swear to you.”
Goosebumps prickled across my skin, and a wave of nausea washed over me. I bowed my head, trying to shake it off, then nodded.
“I’ll come. I’ll be right after you.”
He looked at me for a moment before nodding. Gently, he bowed to Lycannar, then turned to the princesses to bow again.
Having delivered his message, he started toward the exit, but at the doorway, he paused and turned back to Princess Mearez, taking her hand.
“I will still come and do the needful, Princess. I promise.”
There was no need for further clarity. She simply understood. She nodded, watching him leave, each of us heavy with our own emotions.
Lycannar’s expression shifted too. After Jurrek left, he turned away, stepping toward the bedchamber. I bit my lower lip.
9:
“Please excuse me.” I said softly to the princesses, then followed him inside.
s
He walked toward the writing desk and sat down quietly, clearly troubled by something. Something big.
With a sigh, I walked closer and sat on the bed across from him.
“Lycan,” I called.
He turned his head, looking at me in silence. The pressure in the air was thick.
“I’m fine,” I said. “I’ll go and return without any trouble.”
He didn’t reply, only nodded, and I sighed again.
“What’s wrong? Are you mad at me?”
“At myself,” he answered, looking away. “This is my battle, it seems. It shouldn’t be weighing you down.”
“It doesn’t.”
“Yeah… I know,” he murmured, then got up and came to sit beside me on the bed. Gently, he took my hand, caressing it.
“You know you can talk to me. About anything. About how you feel, and what fighting your brother does to you. You might feel guilt, or even regret. After all, he’s your blood.”
My heart warmed at his words, his concern. And then, in a blur, the buried memories surfaced. Varyn slapping me so hard I nearly fainted. The way he looked at me like I was nothing.
“Have you ever hit your sisters?” I asked suddenly, catching him off guard.
He stared at me for a long moment, as if I’d lost my mind.
“How do you mean… hit?”
“Like… slap their faces, push them, drag them forcefully. Anything physically hurtful.”
His brows drew together in confusion.
“Why would I ever do that to my sisters? There are other ways to punish them if they sin. Like lock them in their chambers, refuse to speak to them for days, or threaten to send them to my brother Hades, who’s far stricter than I am. But hit them? Never. I will never do that. They’re fragile. All women are. You all are strong in many ways, but we men are meant to cherish you,
not make life harder. And wait… why are you asking me this?”
I hesitated, his words echoing in my head. Then I lowered my gaze.

“I lived with Nyroth for five years, and all he ever did to his sister was pamper her, almost to a fault. I’ve known you only for months, and all I’ve seen is how you worship your sisters. But my own brother slapped me so hard I nearly bled from my lips. He pushed me toward the bed like I disgusted him.”
My voice trembled slightly.
“Maybe he does that because I’m a warrior but you know I’m a warrior too, yet you handle me with such care. You ask if I ever feel guilt for standing against him? The answer is no, Lycan. Varyn has gone astray, beyond saving. I hesitated before, but now I see the truth. If I could turn back time, I would have let him rot in Blackwater. Because somehow, I can feel it, that many bodies will fall in the coming war. And gods help us… one of our beloveds might fall with them.”

Arriving at Ash Pack, I came in style. Alone, yes, but in style. I wore an elegant dress woven by the finest hands in the Lycan Kingdom, a fur cloak bearing the Lycan crest, and rode the carriage Lycannar once gifted me.
1 alighted quietly and made my way into the long meeting hall where I could already feel his presence, his energy.
He wanted an audience. I would give him one.
On my way there, the air itself felt heavy enough to melt me, and the gazes from pack members nearly did the rest.
I paused briefly in my tracks, looking up toward the window of Varyn’s chamber. There she was again, Desssyn, standing there, her eyes locked on me. I looked away before she could get more than a glance.
When I entered the hall, the guards opened the door slightly for me, and I paused in the doorway. I had expected only my brother, but the elders of Ash Pack were there too, alongside my aunt, Kostyra, and her husband, Lord Yua.
For a long moment, silence ruled the room as they all stared at me, my presence commanding their stillness. Finally, I looked toward the empty seat meant for me and walked over to sit, waiting.
“We’ve made the report, and everyone has agreed to it,” one of the elders said, placing a decree before me. “Each elder has signed, as well as your aunt. Now it’s your turn. Sign it and prepare yourself.”
I was slightly taken aback, but that changed when I read the headline.
Handover.
Quietly, I reached for the decree and read through it, my eyes scanning each line until a cold chill replaced the warmth in my spine. I went still.
Now you may wonder tppa mmhow did Varyn become the war strategist? It’s because he has what it takes. I’d surprised him in battle with the Spirit Guard, and he’d lost. ɪꜰ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡᴀɴᴛ ᴛᴏ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴍᴏʀᴇ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, ᴘʟᴇᴀsᴇ ᴠɪsɪᴛ Find✶Novel.net

Varyn Ashmere demanded back his seat as Alpha. That meant one thing. If I renounced my position, my Spirit Guard would vanish into thin air.
That was what happened to my father’s sword, and to every ancestor who bore a Spirit Guard. The moment they ceased to be Alpha, their guardians ceased to exist.
And now, in the long history of Ash Pack, no Alpha had ever been dethroned except by death, until now, in my reign.
I was the first–ever Female Alpha, and now it seemed I would also be the first to be impeached before my time.
Looking up from the decree, I fixed my gaze on my brother. He stood ahead, arms folded, his expression resolute. His decision was final.
Once my Spirit Guard was gone, he would launch his next attack. I could already imagine the horror that would follow.
Looking back down, I swallowed hard. The seat originally belonged to Varyn. I wouldn’t fight him for it. I picked up the quill, signed my name across the decree, and rose to leave. But before I could, my aunt’s voice rang out.
“When will you come for the rituals? Since it seems you’ve been living as a mistress in the Lycan Kingdom.”
Her words cut through me, sharp and deliberate. But even then, I remembered Lycannar’s words from this morning. They gave me the strength to smile. I turned to my aunt, who looked surprised that I could even do so.
“Lycannar and I are getting married at the end of this week, after the full moon,” I said softly, yet firmly. “I’ll officially be his wife and Queen. You don’t need to worry about me living as a mistress, Aunt. But thank you for your concern.”
I turned to leave but then a word was whispered. Low, venomous, crawling into my ear.
“Traitor.”
I froze mid–step. That word. From Varyn.
And just when I wanted to walk away peacefully.
Turning slowly, I met his smirk.
“Traitor? Really?” I asked, and he frowned. “Oh, please, Varyn. You know who I saw you with on the battlefield? Railan, Lord Osmir’s son. The same Railan who killed our mother. You fight

beside him. Look around you. These elders, our aunt, they’re all hypocrites. When you were rotting in Blackwater, I begged for help from them. But do you know who came forward? Only Lycannar. The same one you’re obsessed with killing, just because you can’t live with the guilt of killing our father!”
My words came fast, hot, but before I could say more, he lunged at me. I was ready. Varyn pushed me, but I ducked his attack at the last second, making him lose balance. I kicked him forward.
He recovered quickly, swinging a fist the size of a melon toward my face. I tried to dodge, but dizziness suddenly clouded my vision. My body failed me. Before I could fall, Jurrek appeared, pushing Varyn off and standing at my side.
On my feet, I swayed and leaned against the table for support, startled by how weak I felt. I was unwell.
“Now you want to join her? Pick a side, Jurrek?!” Varyn shouted, shoving Jurrek’s chest. “You’re my best friend! You were supposed to be my Beta, not hers! You said you’d sit this war out, not take sides!”
Silence fell after his outburst. His breathing was ragged, he’d lost control. Jurrek, however, had reached his limit.
“Get yourself together, Varyn,” he said coldly. “Lay hands on Zephyr again, and I swear I won’t just pick sides. Hurting your own sister? That’s the lowest of it all.”
Those words cut deep under Varyn’s skin like no other. Jurrek glared at him with disgust before turning toward me, his expression softening. Gently, he helped me up and led me out of the hall.
Back Where 320
“Your Majesty, it is ready,” Anahita informed me from where I sat in the dining hall. I looked up into her eyes for what felt like an eternity before turning my gaze toward the staircase ahead, swallowing hard.
The Black Tower had been completed, erected, furnished, and perfected, exactly as I ordered. All thanks to my people.
I rose from my seat and ascended the stairs quietly, my heart racing with every step. When I reached the dimly lit hall, I saw the lamps fixed along the walls casting a soft glow. Chantel’s bedchamber stood at the end.
I walked toward it in silence and opened the door. Small and comfortable. Everything he could ever need was neatly arranged inside. I closed the door quietly and moved on to my own chamber.
I had to pause. The maids had outdone themselves so much that I could barely recognize the room. It was all exactly to my taste.
Crossing toward the bedchamber, I admired the new curtains, the rows of neatly hung robes, and the sensual nightgowns I’d love to see Zephyrine wear. I couldn’t help but smile.
Turning to my writing desk, I glanced at the spot where my nightly potion once sat and exhaled softly. Maybe I didn’t need that anymore.
Facing Anahita again, I gave her a nod.
“Thank you,” I said.
“Please, Your Majesty, don’t mention it.” She bowed.
“Tell my Beta to prepare some decrees, Royal favors. Tomorrow morning, I’ll go to the throne chamber and hand them to those who deserve them.”
Hearing that, she looked at me again, smiled faintly, and nodded.
“Alright, Your Majesty.”
Then she turned and left quietly, her footsteps fading down the stairs. Alone in my chamber, I looked around again and smiled faintly. In a place like this, I would marry Zephyrine. I would raise pups with her. We’d be happy and… happy?

The thought faltered. Memories flooded back. I walked toward the chair and sat heavily, my heart weighed down.
What she’d told me had struck deep, and I wondered how cruel can a man be? How far gone is Varyn Ashmere?
I could understand if he was angry at me, but to the extent of striking his own sister, my woman? gods. I needed to step up to him.
Enough of sitting idle, of being passive. I was healed now. Perhaps it was time he and I sat face to face and settled this once and for all.
If he wanted my life, he could name the date and time, meet me in a duel. If it was war he desired, then so be it.

I never wanted Zephyrine to go to him today. I was worried, troubled by an unease I couldn’t explain, but she is a strong woman. She could fend for herself, stand her ground, and never once be a liability.
I was lost in thought when the distant sound of carriage wheels reached my ears. Quietly, I rose from the chair and walked to the corridor, looking down over the gate.
Her white carriage rolled into the courtyard. The moment I saw it, all my worries melted away.
Without waiting for her to alight, I rushed outside to meet her. I descended the stairs quickly, stepping into the open just as she stepped down from the carriage.
She stood there for a brief moment, and when our eyes met, my heart bloomed with warmth and love.
I walked toward her, and she moved toward me. We were about to meet in the middle when her steps faltered.
What happened next was beyond comprehension.
Zephyrine swayed, her body losing balance, and I surged forward just in time to catch her in my arms.
“Zephyrine?” I called, disbelief lacing my voice. Her lips had gone pale, her skin almost white. She tried to speak, to answer, but her eyelids fluttered open weakly before closing again. She went limp in my arms.

Cold fear raced down my spine. Around us, the entire courtyard froze in silence, and above us, her Spirit Guard spread its wings in distress, screeching softly.
“Mearez!” I called, summoning my sister as I lifted Zephyrine into my arms and carried her up the tower steps. My heart thundered in terror with every beat, dread clawing at my chest.
What happened? What’s wrong with her?
Oh. Foremother, don’t take her from me.
