Chapter 36: Till infinity and beyond

Alanis

"Father is back," Eligio tells me.

He wants me to go back home with them, I am not leaving Beau so somehow, I have to convince him to come with us. "I have to talk to Beau about it, we will go together."

He frowns, I look over the couch and Darrien is already getting antsy, he wants to leave and I don’t blame him.

"He should stay here," Eligio mutters.

"Why?"

He shrugs "He shouldn’t leave in case Cassius comes back."

I frown "I can’t leave him alone; he needs me in case Cassius comes back." I am being stubborn but El should know that he can’t win this argument. I don’t want to leave Beau right now.

"What If he comes back and the Alpha of the pack isn’t here?"

"We won’t sleep at home; I’ll just hear what father has to say and bring him back."

"You know he is better off here right now; besides we are having a meeting as a family."

"He is part of the family."

He shakes his head "He isn’t, not really."

I am getting angry.

"Why don’t you want him to come with me?" he seems to be hiding something. El never hides stuff from me. He is the most open with me. What is he hiding now?

"Calm down you’re overreacting."

I stand up from the couch "No I am not, tell me what is going on," I want to know the truth. Eligio runs his hands through his hair. I can sense the regret.

"I am not hiding anything. I just don’t think you shouldn’t bring him along right now,"

I shake my head "You are lying to me. I can tell."

"I am not, just trust me."

Realization hits me suddenly and I hate that he has this power "What did you see?" I ask him solemnly.

Eligio can see the future, that is his special gift. So, he must have seen something that I wouldn’t like. He must know something that he doesn’t want Beau to know. That is the only explanation I have.

He sighs "Beau isn’t that good at handling situations."

He is talking like he even knows him. I am the only one that has the right to assume things like this. He has no right. "What wont he be able to handle?" I ask him because my curiosity is at its peak. I am already panicking at different thoughts that are running through my head.

"Nothing, forget I said anything. Bring him with you if you want." he walks away from me without another word and I grimace. I look around and notice that beau isn’t in the living room anymore. Rex notices me as I walk over to him "He went to have a shower?" he explains before I even ask. Just the fact that he knows everything about Beau makes me jealous.

I nod and walk to the direction of his room, I have gotten so accustomed to his house, it is almost starting to feel like home. Not there yet—but almost. The door to his room is open and as I walk into it, I hear water rushing in the bathroom. I smile because I understand how pleasurable his bath time is for him.

Walking into the shower, there is steam everywhere from the hot water. I see him through the transparent glass. I open the sliding door and he looks up through the pouring water "I knew you’d find me."

He stretches his hand out for me as an invitation "Eligio and Darrien need to leave," I remind him.

He nods "Just a couple of minutes, please," he waves his hands and the temptation that is him, reel me in. I cannot say no to this man, No is not in my vocabulary. I take off my clothes hurriedly and he laughs.

Grabbing his hands in mine tightly I let him pull me into the shower and the hot water hits me in a way I didn’t even know I needed "Told you." he kisses my temple and I close my eyes to enjoy this moment. This is a moment I didn’t even know I needed, through all the chaos that has been happening, this couple of minutes of solace is very appreciated.

"I missed you," I find myself mumbling.

"I missed you too," he is still in my arms. I just want to stay like this for the rest of my life. I love this man and I didn’t even know that a couple of months ago. We stay in the shower for a while and I lose my self and track of the time. He is the one that stops the bliss we are in "We should head on out,"

I groan in his arms "I don’t want to."

He chuckles "You came in here trying to drag me out, now you don’t want to leave?"

"Yes, lets run away together. Disappear and never look back," at this point I am just messing around. I know he will never leave his pack. He will rather die fighting than run away.

"I need to bury my dad today, his body has been cold for too long," he tells me solemnly.

I nod because the day is already over but I also know he want to do this so that he can finally say goodbye and focus on protecting his people. "You’re not coming with us?" Even though Eligio doesn’t want him to come home with me, I still want him to.

"I have to stay here, you’ll let me know what you discuss?"

I nod.

"Are you going to come back today?"

"Yes, I won’t let you sleep alone, not even for a night."

His smile deepens "Have I told you how much I love you?"

"hmm...I don’t think so. How much do you love me?’’

He snickers "I love you till infinity will run out,"

I blush.

"You wanna know how long that is?"

I nod.

"Never,"

I smile.

"Even when I die and become nothing, my love for you will forever resonate. It will last till the world ends and time is non-existent. You are everything to me." he leans forward not even giving me a chance to comprehend all he has said and kisses me deeply. I pull him even closer until there is no space between us and I kiss him back with all that I am.

I have no regrets with this man and I doubt I ever will. This thing that people say is a mistake, or is unfortunate, is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I take it as a blessing and I will be forever grateful to the forces that joined us together.

After our shower we go back to the living room and Darrien is not there but Eligio and Rex seem to be having a conversation. They look up immediately they see us and Eligio smiles "You ready?"

I nod "Where’s Darrien?"

"He went out for a smoke, said we should meet him out back," I nod because this is the most patient, he has ever been. I know El wouldn’t have an issue with waiting but Darrien is a different case.

We walk out of the house with Beau tightly holding me. Once outside I see Darrien first at a far end of a corner but he is not alone. There is a boy seated on a rock and they seem to be engrossed in a conversation. Darrien is smiling, this is a shock to me because Darrien never smiles. His eyes are shining brightly and as we walk closer to them, he doesn’t even flinch or notice us.

"You have sad eyes, are you sad?" he asks the boy.

"Maybe just exhausted," the boy answers him and turns around suddenly noticing us. His cheeks turn red like he has been caught doing something wrong, unlike Darrien who just moves closer "Are you ready now?" he asks.

I raise a brow because I am curious as to what is going on between the two of them.

"What are you doing outside Jabi." Beau speaks up.

Jabi stands up from the rock and dusts off the dirt from his pants "I needed some fresh air," he tells him trembling.

"Did Rex send the food?" he asks him while the rest of us just watch them. Darrien can’t seem to take his eyes off him, a smile sprawls on my face from the excitement that he could be interested in the kid. He seems interested, this means something considering the type of person Darrien is.

"I got it, thank you so much."

Beau smile and reaches for his hair, ruffling it "You should go back inside. I don’t want anything to happen to you,"

Jabi heads for the opposite direction but stops midway and turns around "Nice meeting you." he waves at Darrien and I smile, liking everything I just witnessed.

Beau follows us until we get to the car park "I’ll be waiting for you." he tells me, holding unto my hand tightly. It doesn’t seem like he wants to let go; I don’t want to say goodbye either.

"As soon as I can," he kisses my forehead.

"I love you,"

He lets go of my hand and I open the door of the back seat "Till infinity and beyond."

Chapter 37: Funeral Rites.

Beau

I have seen a lot of dead bodies; this is not my first rodeo but looking at his lifeless body on the ground hurts too much to handle. I am not allowed to cry; I can’t show any form of emotion and the only person that makes me strong enough to handle anything is not here right now. The funeral preparations have been going on for a couple of hours.

There are three stages to saying goodbye to the dead.

We first provide a proper honour to their spirits, this usually takes roughly an hour to perform, Alby the elder of the pack will be the first to smear a small amount of his blood unto the dead and also on their gravestones and then the rest of us follow suit.

The second stage gives us an opportunity to make our peace and say the final goodbyes, even though I am not the alpha yet due to the fact that I haven’t done my mating ritual, I am still the next in line, which means I will be the first to say goodbye. Fallon will be the next and everyone will take turns until the pack as a whole is complete.

The third stage of the ritual is the incantations that will be done by the spiritualist—in this case, Alby. This helps to speed the spirit of the dead on its way to the ancestor realms.

The whole thing is stressing me out, the fact that after today, I will have to accept that he is gone. He is not the only one I have to say goodbye to, my cousin Mali and Win from my mother’s side are gone too. This is too much loss at once.

This funeral is rushed, I am trying to speed it up because I need to focus on protecting everyone. i know for a fact that my father would do the same thing if he were in my shoes. He had lived his life protecting everyone, he died being the only one I knew that was strong enough to be a hero. I want to be half the man he was. I will live the rest of my life trying to be the man he was. I watch them as they lay Mali and Win’s bodies at the back of their fathers.

Their mates are crying deeply. I don’t know how they feel and I pray to never go through what they are going through, but I have gone through my own fair share of loss. I know how it feels to lose people that you never wish to see die. I know they are in pain; I know they feel like their world is crumbling down on them. I can see the pain in their eyes, they are still in shock. It is not real to them yet. Even though they are staring head front at their lifeless bodies. They won’t believe it.

i still don’t think he is gone; someone could just wake me up from this nightmare and I could be in my father’s arms. He would still be the alpha, still, be alive.

"The ritual rites will begin soon," Alby notifies us and I frown because Lanis is not back. I need him here with me. I grab my phone from my pocket and dial his number. He answers immediately.

"Where are you?"

He sighs into the phone "I’ll be there soon, we just had a lot to discuss," he explains.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, at least I think so. It’ll be alright. Do I have at least thirty minutes?" he questions.

His words are confusing. I don’t know what he means but I just need him here. "Just hurry up please, I can’t do this without you. I need you here."

"Okay baby."

*******************

The ceremony begins just as Lanis comes. I am glad that he is here and I can’t help but wrap my arms around him, in an attempt to get some relief from all the emotions I am feeling. He takes me in his arms and I release a sigh of relief "I’ve missed you," I breathe into his ear.

"Are you okay?" he asks me when he notices my father’s body on the cold hard ground, the last time I saw him, his head was decapitated off his body. The healers must have stitched it back together.

I nod because that is the only answer I can give him. Deep down, I am not okay. This is a lot for me to handle and I need him to help me.

"Let the ceremony begin. Beau, I need you upfront," Alby calls me. I know I am supposed to be the leader of this but I don’t want to be upfront acting like I have the faintest clue what I am doing. This is scary and very emotional for me.

I have to say goodbye to all of them.

I don’t want to say goodbye to my family.

Lanis grabs my hand in a compassionate squeeze. This is supposed to make me feel better, don’t get me wrong, I am grateful to have him by my side at this moment but nothing can make this feel better. I have to bury my father, I have to say goodbye to him and I am not ready—no one is ever ready but it is something I have to do.

I squeeze his hand in a way to reciprocate the feelings he is sharing with me and he manages a smile. We are in the graveyard; this is the same place he died. The memories will forever be plastered. Anytime I am here, I will remember.

He lets go of me and I walk to the pave-stone in which they are all placed. I look at my father closer and this is not the man I remember; this is not the last face of him I want to remember. His body is the palest white, his eyes are closed. There is no life in him. I hate that I have to see this. It is unfair to make me see him like this but I have no choice. I am the next Alpha, if I show weakness, no one will believe in me.

"We lost great men, now we have to say goodbye to them," Alby speaks up and I realize everyone is watching me, waiting for me to show emotions. I am not allowed to cry; this is my father’s funeral and I can’t fucking cry. All in the name of being a leader.

"Rick Foxly, you were a great man, a true leader and it is with great sadness that we say goodbye to you, we say thank you for everything you have done for this family, this pack." I watch Alby as he grabs a knife and cuts his palm. I watch as the blood drips to the sand and mixes with nature. He walks over to my father and I watch him as he smears the blood on his body, he does the same for Mali and Win and I close my eyes in an attempt to stop the tears from gushing out.

After he is done, he looks at me "Your turn," he instructs me. My feet are stuck to the ground and for a second, I wish the ground would just swallow me whole. this is a lot for me, I look at the crowd and I see him, Lanis manages a warm smile and that Is what gives me the strength to move. Just the fact that I know he is there, he will always be here for me, is enough.

I stop in front of his body and my heart beats heavily in my chest. The nerves kicking in and pulling me into the void I don’t want to get into. I inhale as I get on my knees and then I exhale. Alby passes me the knife and I stare at him and then my hand. I am supposed to put my blood on his and his gravestone. This is somehow supposed to send him over to our ancestors.

"Begin," he tells me.

I place the knife on my hand and feel the sting as I press it harder. The blood draws out slowly and I ignore the pain. I reach for his arm and smear a little of it to him. I watch as the blood dissolves on his arm. I close my eyes to fight the tears from falling. This is the moment I say something. What can I say?

I have no words.

"Thank you, dad, thank you for being there. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. I will never forget you." I bend over until I am close to him. Even though he has been gone for a couple of days, I place a soft kiss on his forehead and I watch a teardrop unto his body. From where I am, I know no one can see it. It is just between me and him, the way it has always been. He is the only one in this pack that knows the real me. He is the only one that knows my weakness.

Chapter 38: Seeing the past

Alanis

"What did you see El?"

El is driving us back home to meet with Father. I have been pestering him to tell me what he saw, I am sure now that Beau isn’t here, he might open up to me.

He sighs for the umpteenth time today "Look, what I saw has already happened. I didn’t see the future," he exclaims and I furrow my brows because he has never seen the past before.

"Is that possible?"

He shrugs and I watch as he turns the steering "It has never happened before," he explains "But it is possible."

"What did you see?"

We are almost home; he looks away from the road for a second and I see pain in his eyes. Whatever he saw must have been terrible. The fact that he doesn’t want Beau to know makes it even more terrifying. How will I be able to handle whatever he saw?

I will have ti share it with my link. He will have to know whatever it is. I am thinking far ahead. Different thoughts are running through my head, this is what I do, i over think things. I don’t know anything yet but I am already in panic mode.

"I will show you," we get to the house and fathers’ car is in the driveway. I know what he means by this. He has the ability to show his thoughts, I could see what is in his head if he grants me access. Do I really want to see whatever he saw?

I don’t know.

El parks in his spot in the garage and we all walk into the car. Darrien has been very quiet "You okay?" I ask him.

He rolls his eyes and walks away from me "We are not friends," he leaves my view and I sigh because nothing has changed between us. I thought with this we could find a middle ground and grow a bond. I thought he would open up to me a little.

"Come meet me before you go back," El says as we get into the living room.

Everyone is already seated and they seem to be engrossed in their conversation. They all stop talking when they notice us and father manages a smile "We’ve all been waiting for you,"

I manage a nod and walk deeper into the room. I take a seat on an empty part of the couch and Elu smiles at me. Her hair is up in a messy bun. "How was your visit?"

He smiles "It was great, we have a lot to discuss. I informed them of the threat Cassius is to the wolves and they are sending a team over to haunt him down,"

"When?"

He shrugs "It is supposed to be immediate as of today. They are sending their best hunters with the expectation that Cassius is captured before he does any more harm."

"I heard he paid a visit earlier today," he asks.

I nod "He almost killed one of them. Darrien was a big help," I look at him and he looks away from me immediately. I don’t know what his problem is right now but I can’t deal with him right now.

"Good, we need to help them as much as we can. We can’t have a war between our kinds right now. Those things never end well," he lays emphasis.

"I spoke to the Eli’s about your link. There is a lot of controversy to it. The approval they gave me over the phone has been reverted," he informs me.

I crease my brows in confusion "What do you mean by that?"

He sighs "This is bigger than we understand, this is the first time this has happened. They need to understand it before they accept it. Give them some time,’ he tells me like he even has a clue how hard this is for me. I have to wait until they are okay with me being with him. What kind of bullshit is that?

No one has a right to tell me when to fucking be one with him. I choose the time to put the link together. This is unfair.

"When will this be okay for them, how long do I have to wait for some people I don’t even fucking know to tell me it’s okay to love him?"

I am getting angry and everyone can tell. Mother is the closest to me and I feel her hand as it rests on my shoulder. She is trying to calm me down. I can’t be calm right now. What do I tell Beau? He wants this to happen immediately and now we have to do some more waiting.

Fuck.

"Just relax, they will get back to us."

"And what if they say no?" I stand up in an attempt to seem more powerful. Father doesn’t flinch. He raises a brow in a,sit down before I beat your ass way.

I take a couple of deep breaths "We will cross that bridge when we get there."

I laugh because this is ridiculous "I am not going to go with their decision. I will do this my way because I love that man and I want to become one with him. I don’t care about anything else," I warn them.

"Stop being so irrational, you need to think with your head and not your fucking heart. This whole Link with a wolf is ridiculous. What if it is a mistake? Are you sure you can even survive his mating process?"

He is trying to inflict fear into my head, if I die trying to mate with Beau then I would die a happy man. Nothing is going to stop this from happening. This is the only thing I want; it is all I live for.

"I won’t die. This is not a mistake, it is real. It is different and people don’t want to accept different. Different isn’t always a bad thing. Different could be good," I tell him.

"We are on your side," mother chimes and I look at her sadly. I can see her sincerity in her eyes.

"I know, I just need everyone to understand that this isn’t something that just happened. This is real, this is my life," I tell her.

She nods and stands up to be closer to me "We know that, we accept you. Your father is just trying to say that whatever decision the Eli comes up with doesn’t affect what you do. We will cross the bridge of disapproval if we have to. We will be on your side," she places her palm on my face and I close my eyes because I am scared.

I might act tough.

I might act like I have the faintest clue of the future, but I am still scared. The thought that I could lose him clouds my head all the time. I don’t want to think about that because I know I would fight till my dying breath to be with him but there are people out there that want to destroy us and all that we are.

****************

"You need to take It easy on them. This is very confusing and father is trying to wrap his head around it. Everyone is trying to wrap their heads around it," El tells me as we walk into his room together. we ended the meeting peacefully. I am not satisfied with everything that was said but I won’t fight anyone yet.

I will give them the time they are asking for and if the Eli’s refuse to let this Link continue, I will sever my relationship with them. I will do anything to become a part of Beau, no matter what anyone says.

"I am trying my best, all this back and forth is pissing me the fuck off."

He sighs "I understand you but understand things from everyone else. I know how you feel, I have a link. I can’t imagine my life without Elu, she is all I live for but at the end of the day, we are still your family and we will always be on your side. We just have to do this at our own pace."

He is trying to rationalize everything father has said but I am conflicted. I love father, he saved me at a time when I had no one and I will always be indebted to him but the love I have for Beau is stronger than the love I have for myself. I would do anything for him, even forsaking my kind.

"What did you see?" I change the topic because I am done talking about it.

"Are you sure you want to see this?" he is watching me. There is doubt in his tone, he is scared to show me this but if it involves Beau then I need to see it. i need to know. No matter what he thinks, no matter how much it might hurt him.

"Yes."

He walks until he is in front of me and grabs both of mine in his grip. He holds my hand "I am sorry that this is coming from me," he tells me. i feel the shock before I can respond and somehow, I am being pulled into his head. It is like electricity and I feel everything before I see it.

I am in a graveyard.

I am not alone.

I see a man and he is kneeling on the ground. He seems to be crying, I don’t know who he is. I move closer and hear his words "Loraine?"

"What should I do?"

I don’t know who Loraine is but I assume she is his wife as I read the words on the tombstone. i watch him break down unsure as to why El is showing me this. "I need you now." he cries and my heart breaks at how pained he sounds.

I hear footsteps which makes me turn to the direction of it and I see him immediately. This is Beau’s uncle. The one that seems to hate him. The man on the ground doesn’t seem to have noticed him. Fallon is just watching; he doesn’t move any closer. There is a look on his face that is scaring me at this moment because I have my suspicions as to what is about to happen. Suddenly I know who the man is, this is Beau’s father. This is before he was killed.

Shit.

I look back at Beau’s father and he tries to stand up, I watch him as he struggles and falls to his knees again. His expression shows that he is in pain, I try to reach out for him before the realization that I cannot do anything hits me.

Shit.

Fallon walks until he is near him and smiles. Beau’s father reaches for him "Help me brother?" he pleads.

I watch him laugh and anger seeps through me at how vile this man is. He must have done something to him, what did he do to him?

"What did you do to me?" he cries.

My heart breaks.

I know what is coming next, I don’t want to see it but somehow, I am compelled to.

"I am really sorry for this brother," he grabs the man on the ground and I can’t do anything to stop this. This has already happened. This man died in the hands of his own blood and for what?

Rex already suspected this.

How do I break this to Beau, how do I tell him that the only blood relative he has murdered his father in cold blood?

Chapter 39: Caught in a lie

Beau.

The funeral ended with so many emotions and I don’t know how to handle them all at once. Lanis has been acting weird and I know that something is up. he is trying to hide this from me—his worry but I see right through him. We are at the rec centre in the community. It is customary to eat together as a pack after a funeral. For the rest of the night we all of have be together in the same enclosed place. I just want to get away and be with Lanis, I will be okay once I can lay in his arms and hold him tight.

"How are you holding up baby?" Bells comes up to us with a compassionate smile.

I manage to return her smile back to her and she moves even closer. Lanis is watching us and I can sense jealousy emanating from him. He hasn’t said anything but I know he doesn’t like how close we are. I know he wont say anything because that’s just the kind of person he is.

"Today went well," she says as she sits on my lap. She doesn’t seem to care that my mate is right next to me. I have seen this same jealousy from Justin her mate. Before I met Lanis, I didn’t think too much about it but now that he is in my life, I think it is a little too much for him to handle.

I grab her waist and place her on the seat next to me, putting me in the middle of the two of them. Lanis is picking at the food on his plate and I know he isn’t hungry.

"As good as a funeral can go."

She nods not upset that I moved her away from me. I look at everyone in the room and the tension is obvious, no one is calm. Everyone is panicking, I don’t blame them, we cant really be thinking about anything but the fact that any one could be hurt at anytime. We have someone hunting us and I don’t know what to do about it, how do I even catch him?

"You should eat," Bells points to my plate which is still full.

I nod "I will," I tell her even though I know I am not really interested in food right now.

Rex joins us on the table and his mood is the same as everyone. I hate this bummer mood. I hate everything that is happening. I hate that I have to be the adult. If father was alive, I wouldn’t be this serious, I would’ve probably snuck away with Lanis.

I lean closer to him and he manages a smile "Are you okay?" I ask him worriedly.

He smiles and kisses me softly on my lips, I deepen the kiss because contact with him is the only thing that is making me feel good. I feel numb to everything that is happening and he is my only escape. See why I need him in my life? He gives me the balance that I need. He is the only person that can get me through this.

I want to mate with him immediately after there is a full moon. I spoke to Alby and he explained all I will need to do. It will be for a night. We will have to be alone, with no interruptions. Once the moon is full I will take my full form and then I will mark him. He will be mine once the mark is embedded and we could become one.

I cannot wait to be one with him.

"Do you need blood?" I ask him because he is looking a little paler than usual.

He shakes his head "I had some at home."

I raise a brow because I sense something, I don’t know what it is but he needs to talk to me. I have to be aware of whatever is bothering him; I want to take care of him. I want him to be comfortable with me, around me. Comfortable enough to talk to me about anything. He hasn’t mentioned anything that happened at home. I don’t know what he discussed with his father and I also know now is not a good time to talk about it.

"Do you wanna escape for a minute?" I ask, maybe if I can get him away from here, he will talk to me.

"Is that possible?"

I smile "We can go somewhere quiet, but just for a second," I tell him because I know eventually someone will look for me.

He nods eagerly and I smile at how cute he is right now. I lead him out of the rec centre and once outside I exhale deeply for the first time today. The fresh air hits me and I close my eyes for a second, taking it all in. The stress of the day is heavy on my chest and I need a release. Somehow, I know I won’t get that anytime soon because we still have problems at hand.

"How are you feeling after today?" he speaks up so suddenly that I almost forgot he was here. There is a smile on his face as he watches me curiously.

"Glad you were here with me through it all," I move closer to him and he wraps his arms around my waist pulling me even closer. we look into each other’s eyes and nothing feels weird about it.

"What did your dad say?" I remember that his father could have more information on Cassius. I will take anything I can get right now because I need to find him before he does more harm to my people. This is a man that has successfully wiped out a whole town of wolves. He means business and I won’t let him win this. I will fight him till the end.

"We should talk about that later, how about we stay like this for a while without saying anything," he rests his chin on my shoulder and I hold him tighter.

He is being evasive, probably bad news and he thinks I can’t handle it. i just lost my father, I can handle anything right now, except losing him. As long as I don’t lose him, I will be fine.

"I love you," I remind him. This is my way of letting him know that I will always love him no matter what. This is me telling him that he has nothing to worry about, he can trust that I will be by his side, no matter what.

*******************

Lanis jumps on my king size bed and the sheets rumple beneath him "Home at last," he mutters and my heart swells at his words.

He is calling my home his home. That means the world to me, I can’t believe he feels that way, it makes me feel great.

I walk until I am on the edge of the bed and he smiles stretching his arms out for me "Come on lover, come to papa."

I lie down on top of him and his weight welcomes me. One of the good things about being with the same sex is this. I don’t have to worry about crushing him with my weight. He can handle all of me.

"You did good today," he exclaims proudly.

I release a sigh of relief because hearing that from him means a lot to me. He stretches his neck and kisses my forehead softly; I close my eyes as the resistance that I have is wearing thin. I can’t keep taking less from him, I want all of him and I am losing patience. The animal in me is craving him desperately. He feels the desperation from the hardening of my member and giggles.

"You should go take a cold shower," he winks and I push him off me playfully. This makes him laugh even harder. I stand up from the bed and adjust my jeans.

"Are you going to join me?"

He shakes his head "You go first, I need to go out for some fresh air. He looks out the window and I furrow my brows. Is this some code for vampire business?

"Nothing like you’re thinking, just five minutes," he waves his hands in the air and I laugh.

"Fine, but be back soon and don’t talk to anyone. People are still wary of you. We have to let them accept you without causing any more problems," I warn him with a peck.

"Alright."

I go into the bathroom and I hear the door of my room close loudly. I don’t know what is going on with him but I know something Is wrong. I walk out of the bathroom to follow him. I just need to know what he is thinking. He isn’t talking to me, so being a creepy stalker is the only thing I can do. I watch him as he walks in the direction that leads to Rex’s room. He said he was going outside; this is not the way outside. Why is he going to my best friends’ room?

He knocks on the door quietly and Rex opens it up. The expression on his face tells me that he didn’t know about this. He is confused as to why my mate would be in front of his door.

"I need to talk to you," he says.

Rex furrows his brows "What is wrong?"

Lanis turns around and I jump to cover myself. He doesn’t see me. He sighs and I watch him run his hands through his hair "Can I come in?"

Rex manages a nod and opens the door wider. Lanis walks in and he closes it behind him.

What is going on?

Chapter 40: Fighting.

Alanis.

He can see right through me.

All day, I could tell he knew something was wrong. He gave me this weird look, like he was using his eyes to tell me that I could trust him. I know I can trust him. This is not about trust; this is me not wanting to see him hurt again. I really don’t know how he will handle this. He is still trying to get over his father and now I have to spring this up on him.

How do I do that?

The day ends and I succeed in not saying anything about what I know. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I know I have to tell him but I don’t know how to tell him, here I am staring into his eyes and keeping something so big from him.

I am uncertain about what he will do, he might end up killing his uncle. I need to tell him the truth but I can’t just blurt something like that out. Rex was suspicious, the last time I spoke to him, he mentioned something along those lines. He has an inkling and I think he is the best person to talk to about it. I couldn’t get any time alone with him at the funeral, Beau was always with me. I don’t blame him; he is worried that someone that doesn’t approve of this relationship might try to hurt me. I know that not everyone is accepting of us, I hear the murmurs and whispers, I see the looks. They all don’t support this but no one wants to challenge him. Everyone is in panic mode right now; they are waiting for this to be over.

Once Beau goes into the bathroom, I stand up and walk over to the direction of Rex’s room. It was pretty easy getting to it. I knock on the door and I hear his footsteps until he opens the door. His expression is shocked, probably not expecting me to be here.

"I need to talk to you," I mutter.

He looks over my shoulders as I read his mind.

Does Beau know he’s here?

It’s just a thought in his head, I know he is worried. From the time I have been here, I know that Rex is afraid of Beau. He walks on egg shells around him and I don’t seem to understand why. I guess I don’t know their relationship that well but Beau loves him. He would do anything for Rex.

"What is wrong?" he asks still looking over my shoulders. I turn around in case someone followed me here. The fact that he seems to think that there could be someone has me worried.

"Can I come in?" I ask him hopeful.

I walk in as he moves to create space for me to enter, closing the door I take a deep breath. This is harder than I thought it would be, here I am ready to talk to someone about this but I don’t know how to say this. Rex coughs nervously, still watching me, unsure of what to say.

"Did something happen between you and Beau?" he manages.

Running my hands through my hair I shake my head "No, remember when you told me about Beau’s uncle and his scent?"

He raises a brow "Yes, I do," his expression changes and I sense panic "You didn’t tell him about it. Please tell me you didn’t."

I raise my hands forward in a non-threatening gesture and he sighs "I didn’t but I need to."

Furrowing his brows, he asks "Why?

"Because I have the evidence you were looking for. I saw it today. Fallon killed Beau’s father,"

Rex takes a step away from me and I watch him as he paces "How do you know and what do you mean by you saw it?"

"My brother, Eligio has the gift to see the past and future. He showed it to me. I watched Rick die," I release a breath of relief because saying this out loud makes me feel better. I know I won’t feel good about myself when I tell Beau, I will hate myself fro being the one to cause him more pain. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news. I hate that I know this.

I hate it so much.

"Wow," he says finally.

"I need to tell Beau but I am scared of how he will react."

"You have to tell him; the one thing Beau hates is keeping things from him. He might not forgive you if he finds out and it’s not from you," he tells me and I realize that he is right. Rex knows Beau a lot more than I do.

"How do I say something like that to him?"

I don’t want to have to be the one that tells him this kind of thing. I wish someone else could be the one to break his heart. Why does it have to me?

"The same way you told me, just tell him what you know. Beau is stronger than he looks, he can handle this. He just needs to know."

He is right.

"I’ll tell him, tomorrow."

"Tell him." he repeats. He can see how hard this is for me. He is being encouraging but it’s not working.

I am terrified.

***************

I walk into his room and he in on the bed with his phone tightly on his grip. He seems to be distracted with whatever he is doing because he doesn’t look up when I close the door. The air seems dreary, something has changed from the moment I left this room to now.

I don’t know what it is but the worry crawls back. What if he already knows?

"Hey," I manage taking a step closer to him. He looks up at me for a second but his expression is blank. I climb the bed gently and crawl all the way over to him. My arms stretch to get him to hold me but his stance is too cold. Now I know something is definitely up.

"What’s wrong?" I ask him immediately.

He shakes his head still typing on his phone, whatever he is doing must be so interesting that he can’t even look at me.

"Boyfriend," I call him and move closer till my face is in the crook of his neck. Pressing my lips to the soft of his skin, I place soft kisses on him. He tries to stir away from me but I am not having it. I will get to the bottom of whatever is making him upset. I will make him feel better, that is what I am here for.

"Stop," he grabs me by my waist obviously not having it.

I look at him with furrowed brows "What’s wrong?" I ask him again.

There is a frown on his face "You tell me," he mutters.

"Tell you what? Everything’s okay with me. You’re the one that’s extra moody right now."

He pushes me off him gently and I watch him stand up from the bed and walk over to the mini fridge at a far corner. He brings out a bottle of scotch and I raise a brow "What are you doing?"

"I’m having a drink," he rolls his eyes.

"Why? its late. Today was a stressful day. You should get some rest."

He sits down on the chair and I watch him down the bottle with no cup. What is he doing? I get up from the bed and walk over to him. "Please stop. Just come to bed and cuddle with me," I am offering him bribes, in hopes that he will be tempted but the look he gives me has me even more worried.

"You go to bed first I need some alone time to think," he brushes my offer off like suddenly I am just some random person.

He is acting very immature right now; he should just come out and say whatever’s bothering him and stop acting like a child. I take one last look at him before I head to the direction of the door. "Let me know when you stop acting like a fucking child," I walk out of his room and out of his house. The cold air hits me once I am outside and regret flood in. I don’t want to be alone right now, I want to be in his arms, I want to lie down next to him and kiss him.

Why are we even fighting right now?

I haven’t done anything.

If he is this upset how will he take the fact that I know who killed his father and I haven’t said anything.

I sit on a rock in front entrance of his house and look at the night sky. Being here in this place is a different experience. Being in love is different. I don’t want to ever lose the feelings within me. At this moment, not being close to him is killing me. I miss him already and he is just inside, I don’t want to fight with him. I hate this so much but I don’t know what is wrong, he won’t talk to me and I am worried.

I need him so much.

"I didn’t expect you to actually leave," I look up and he is standing in front of the door to the house, dressed in only boxers. His hair is a ruffled mess on his head, There is sadness in his eyes.

He doesn’t want to fight with me too.
