Ch. 466..470: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 466-470
Chapter 466: The apology
Jabi
I didn’t expect him to be upset but he is and he won’t talk to me. I don’t like it when he gives me the silent treatment, even though I know that he only does this because he doesn’t want to yell at me. He hates when he gets angry with me but there are times when he can’t seem to control himself and right now is one of those times.
He parks the car in the parking lot of the apartment and turns off the ignition. Usually, we get down together, we always go out of the car playful and all over each other. Now I know he wants me to leave first. He wants to watch me get into the building safely but he doesn’t want to go with me.
He’s really mad at me and he doesn’t know what to do.
I walk out of the car because I don’t want to pressure him into calming down and acting normal. When he cools off, I know we will have a conversation and he will forgive me. I don’t even know what I have done to make him this angry.
From the second I saw him in front of the school building, I knew he didn’t like Lenny but I don’t know why.
I know it has something to do with the fact that he is a vampire. I didn’t know there was a problem with making friends with people like us. Is it not easier to be around people that are like us? Why does it have to be a problem?
I walk into the elevator and up to the penthouse where our apartment is. I open the door with my key and walk in immediately. I wish he would come into the house and talk to me but I know he might now come in now.
He usually would wait in the car a couple of minutes and I don’t know if I have the patience to sit and wait for him today.
I want us to just go back to normal and he is making it a lot more problematic than it needs to be.
I don’t understand why he is so angry.
I walk down the hall to the bedroom and I sit on the bed and wait for him to come in.
I know he is mad at me and I want to change that.
I hear the door as he closes it and my heart sinks in my chest as I wait for him to walk into the room. His footsteps are loud in the hall but the minute he enters the room, I stand up and run into his arms.
He pulls me into his arms and he kisses me. He kisses me so passionately and I kiss him back, I can’t help it.
He pulls away from me and he looks into my eyes.
"I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you. I didn’t mean to get angry with you. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry." he says over and over again.
I pull him into me and I kiss him. I kiss him and I kiss him as if my life depends on it. Like this is the last thing I will ever do.
In all the months that I have been with Darrien, I have never seen him weak in front of his family, I have never seen him apologize to anyone for anything. Even when he is wrong but today, he is apologizing to me.
I kiss him again and he pulls away from me and he looks at me.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry," he repeats again. I smile slowly because this is making me feel very special and Darrien has done a lot already.
"You are apologizing a lot,’’ I point out, still in his arms.
He nods, caressing my hair with his hand "I don’t want to fight with you. I don’t want to make you sad. I don’t want to hurt you."
I look at him, my mouth slightly open. "I don’t want to hurt you either. I don’t want to make you sad. I just want to make you happy. I want you to be happy. You have never made me sad. Not once."
My hands pull him clumsily into me and I kiss him again, this time I don’t stop. I kiss him until his lips are soft and I can feel his tongue. He kisses me back and I can feel the warmth of his mouth and I can taste the saltiness of his lips.
I pull away from him and I look at him. He stares at me, he looks at me.
"I love you," I whisper.
"I love you too."
We haven’t talked about the problem. I still don’t know what his stance is on Lenny but I want him to accept him because I would like to have a friend outside my relationship with Darrien.
I take his hand and I lead him to our bed, I just want to hold him and forget about today.
When we get there, I sit on the bed and I pull him down next to me, there is a smile on his face, this dreamy expression that just tells me that he likes what is happening right now. I kiss him and we hold each other--I don’t even know how long. I stay in his arms because I feel lucky that I have him in my life.
I don’t ever want to let this go.
I don’t ever want to lose him.
"Can you call me next time when you have any difficulty?" he breathes out into the quiet air.
I wanted to prove to him that I could handle a day without him but he made it clear that I don’t want to do anything without him. I want him to continue being my knight in shining armour. I want him to be the one to save me when I need help.
"It won’t happen again,’’ I assure him as I rest my head on his chest as it rises and falls steadily.
I feel him kiss my hair and he whispers in my ear,
"I love you so much."
Chapter 467: Need a friend
Jabi
The next day, he wakes me up again and that same smile is still on his face. The one he went with last night. The one that lets me know that everything that happened is long forgotten. He leans forward and slowly rests his forehead on mine, his eyes closing slowly.
"Am I allowed to go to school today?’’ I ask him because I want us to talk about it. I want to know if he is okay with me being friends with Lenny.
"Can I stop you?’’ he asks me.
I lean forward and kiss him on the lips and he kisses me back. "I still want to go. I don’t want to stop.’’
He nods as he pulls away from me, the smile is still on his face "Then we are going to do what you want to do.’ he smiles and jumps up from the bed. I watch him as he stretches out his hands for me. I take them in mine and he pulls me off the bed. He wraps his arms around my waist and plants a kiss on my forehead.
"You are early today, so you don’t have to rush,’’ his eyes direct mine to the clock on the wall and I see that it is just a little after seven. I haven’t asked him about Lenny, he says he is okay with me going back to school but is he okay with me being friends with Lenny.
I want to be sure that he is okay with it.
I want to be sure that he is okay with everything before I take any chances and do anything to mess things up with him.
"What about Lenny,’’ I mumble my question.
He turns back to me and there is a blank expression on his face "I don’t like Lenny,’’ he seethes at me.
"Why?’’
He sways backward, his eyes wide as he takes a deep breath in and then lets it out. "I can’t explain it,’’ he shrugs.
"Why did you say that if you don’t like him?’’
"Because he is not human,’’ he answers me.
"You mean because he is a vampire?’’
"Sort of,’’ he shrugs again like what he just said makes sense. I don’t know why he would not like him because he is just like us.
"He understands me, he is good for me.’’
He raises a brow "You just met him. How do you know he is god for you? What if he has an ulterior motive for wanting to be friends with you.’’
"He is just a friend. The only reason why he wants to be friends with me is that he is just like me. I don’t think he has any ulterior motives as you think."
He runs his hands through his hair and I sense the frustration. Almost like he doesn’t want to talk about this anymore "You can be friends with anyone else in that school, why does it have to be him?’’
I reach for him and he doesn’t push me away. He never pushes me away and that is why it is so easy to talk to him.
"Can you give him a chance? I have you to protect me, if he is the bad guy that you say he is, then I won’t push for this anymore."
"Why is this so important to you?’’ he asks me and I don’t even need to think about it. I feel lonely sometimes. Like not lonely for love. I don’t need any more love because Darrien has given me everything I could ask for. He has become the most important person in my life. He is what completes me but there is just a part of me that wants someone. A friend, other than him, and I feel like I can get that with Lenny and even if Lenny is not the one for that. I want to at least try.
"I don’t know, I just felt like, for the first time in my life, I could be normal," I tell him honestly.
He nods slowly, he looks at me and then places his hand on my cheek he leans up and plants a kiss on my lips "I will give Lenny a chance, if you think he is a good person then I will trust you but the moment I notice anything fishy, it is over.’’
I nod my head and he pulls me close into his arms "You have to be careful around him, you can’t just trust him just because. No matter what.’’
I nod my head because he is right.
I just have to be careful because at the end of everything, I don’t really know him and maybe it is because he helped me today that I feel like I could trust him but we are not in that place yet.
"You know what, invite him over tonight. I want to know his intentions before I let this happen and I am afraid I was terrible to him earlier,’’ he scratches the back of his neck nervously and I look at my man and can’t help but love him even more.
Darrien will do anything for me and he has just proved it.
"Are you sure about this?’’
He nods immediately "Yes. Let’s see if Lenny is trustworthy."
"We will see.’’
He kisses me and I laugh at the excitement inside of me.
Darrien is so amazing and I have never met anyone like him. He has an otherworldly soul that I think only Darrien has and I know that I have found that place where I belong with him and no one is ever going to take me away from the world that he is. I don’t know how tonight will turn out but I am excited to see what will happen.
"I love you,’’ I smile at him and he nods his head, pulling me even closer. My lips find his again and I feel like the luckiest person on earth.
I have everything I want with Darrien and he has nothing to worry about with Lenny.
Chapter 468: Stranger in our home
Darrien
Jabi thinks I invited the guy over because I am interested in him making a friend but that is not the case right now. I do want Jabi to have friends. I want him to have a life outside our relationship but I don’t think that person is this Lenny guy. I don’t trust the guy and I have good instincts when it comes to things like this.
So maybe this is me doing the whole ’Keep your enemies closer’ thing but I just want to get to know him. Find out what his deal is.
Why he is so interested in Jabi.
I am not saying that I don’t think Jabi is worth it but it all seems a little too weird that he just happened to be so interested in him in such a short time and I want to find out why.
I am giving my link the opportunity to be free outside my reigns but I also want to be able to protect him. The doorbell rings and Jabi jumps up from the chair, I see the excitement in his eyes as he looks at me.
"He is here,’’ he tells me.
I nod with a smile because I like seeing him with this expression. The joy, the happiness for something other than me. I want him to have more of these feelings and it might be the only reason why I would do this again in a heartbeat.
"You should answer it,’’ I nudge towards the door and I notice that his hands are trembling. There is no way that he isn’t nervous. Jabi is a very shy person. Making friends is going to be very difficult for him but I believe in him and I know that he can do it. I walk over to him and grab his hand in mine.
Lenny’s scent is strong outside the apartment. It is almost like he is looming over our lives and I feel disaster coming. I know it is too soon and I am just assuming but there is a reason why I don’t like him. I wasn’t jealous when I saw Jabi with him earlier. this is not about jealousy. there is something else that I haven’t figured out yet and I just want to know what it is.
’’Answer it, we will do it together, ’’ I say calmly. He just looks at me and I know that he is happy about this. I only want to make him happy. That is the only reason why I am agreeing to this in the first place.
I would rather he hang out with the guy when I am there than alone. At least until I am sure that he is not dangerous. If he is dangerous, then we will cross that bridge when we get there.
We walk to the door together and he opens it immediately. Lenny is on the other side of the door and he is smiling. Jabi stares down at him and I notice the way that his hands are shaking.
"Hi,’’ Jabi greets him. His voice is shaking as well.
Lenny smiles slower and he gets a little closer. "So, can I come in?’’ he asks calmly. there is a smile on his face, almost like he is enjoying this a little too much.
I move aside and he walks into the house "The call came as a surprise, I thought your boyfriend didn’t want you hanging out with me,’’ he adds as he walks further into the house.
"He didn’t say that,’’ Jabi responds and I watch them because I am curious about this guy. I need to know what his deal is and so far, I don’t know yet.
"Oh, ’’Lenny starts, "So you don’t mind me being friends with Jabi?’’ he directs his question at me.
I shake my head because for now, I am for what Jabi wants and he wants to be friends with this guy.
"Do you guys have anything to drink in this house?’’ he asks.
He is looking at me.
I smile and I nod. Jabi is beginning to relax and I can see it in his eyes. He feels a little more comfortable being in this guy’s presence.
"Sure, I will go get you guys something to drink,’’ I tell him and head over to the kitchen. Jabi doesn’t drink so whatever I am getting is only for him. I grab a bottle of red wine from the fridge and walk out of the kitchen with a glass. Lenny is seated on the couch and Jabi is on the one-seater. They both look up when I walk in and Jabi smiles at me warmly.
"So, Jabi was telling me that you are his mate,’’ Lenny says as I give him the glass and help him pour some wine into his drink.
I nod but remain quiet.
"How did that happen?’’ he adds in question.
I furrow my brows in confusion "How did what happen?’’
"You and him. A vampire and a werewolf."
I understand why that will be a topic of conversation. Our relationship is not regular and whenever people like us come across this, they will always question it.
"It just happened. nothing you need to concern yourself with," I tell him and I know I am being harsh. I don’t like this one bit but I already promised to be open to their friendship, so I have to give this a chance.
"I should leave you two to hang out. I will be in the room,’’ I tell Jabi and he follows me as I walk out of the living room. He grabs my hand in the hallway to the bedroom and whispers "You seem upset,’’ he points out.
I shake my head "No I am not. Go on, have fun, get to know him. I will be inside if you need me.’’
He looks at me hesitantly but I lean forward and press my lips to his to clear all the doubt in his mind. I don’t want him to think that I am not happy about this because I want him to be happy.
That is all I live for.
Chapter 469: Taste you
Jabi
I go back into the living room and Lenny looks up from his glass. His eyes brighten as I walk over to him.
"He hates me,’’ he points out.
I shake my head "He hates everyone,’’ I tell him because Darrien is not a people person. He never has and he never will. I know that about him and he knows it about himself.
"He doesn’t hate you,’’ he raises a brow as he takes a sip from his glass "aren’t you going to drink with me too?’’ he asks.
I shake my head "I am fine.’’
"come on, it is not fair if I am the only one drinking. I mean, what is the harm?’’ he asks me with a smile on his face. There is something about Lenny that I can’t pinpoint. The way he talks, the way he looks at me, makes me feel like he genuinely is an honest person. Makes me feel like I can trust him.
"I have never had alcohol before,’’ I confess.
He opens his eyes wide "How old are you?’’
"Seventeen.’’
"In werewolf years?"
I nod.
"Oh, have a sip of mine. Let me be your first,’’ he winks with this friendly smile on his face.
"I am fine...really.’’
He nods "I know, but I want you to just taste it, tell me how it makes you feel.’’
He pushes the glass to me and I watch as he waits for me to drink it. I don’t know if this is a good idea but Darrien is in the room. If anything happens, he would hear. There is no harm in having a sip.
Right?
"Come on chicken, what is the point of life without fun?’’
I reach for the glass and he watches me with a playful smile on his face. I take a sip of the wine and the taste leaves me scrunching up my face.
He bursts out in laughter as I drop the glass on the table "It is bitter,’’ I tell him and he just laughs harder.
"You are such a wimp,’’ he tells me as he finishes his drink.
I smile at him. I don’t know how this friend thing works. I don’t know what to say, I don’t know how to act. It is not easy to just act normal when this has never been my normal.
"You should relax, this is very boring. Why don’t we go out?’’ he suggests still smiling. I open my eyes wide because I know that Darrien will not let me go out with him. He doesn’t trust him and this is the best he can do right now.
"We can’t go out tonight.’’
He raises a brow "why not?’’ the smile disappears from his face.
"It’s pretty late and I am tired after today.’’ I remind him of the day I had. the whole freak out.
"You’re lying,’’ he tells me.
"I am not lying.’’
He scoffs "He doesn’t want you to go out with me, that is why we are here. in your house."
I blink ’’That is not true.’’ I try to lie but it is pretty obvious and he can see it all. I don’t want him to think that I think he is some bad person. I don’t know what I think right now but at the end of it all, I will only do what Darrien wants because he is the only one that is important to me.
"Because Darrien doesn’t like me.’’
I shake my head.
"Prove me wrong, put on some shoes, and come out with me.’’ He stands up from the couch and picks up the keys he dropped on the table earlier. My hands are shaking again because I don’t know what I am supposed to do in this situation.
"You are so strong; you have no idea the kind of power you hold and you are letting him control you.’’
I furrow my brows in confusion.
Darrien is not controlling me.
Lenny takes a step towards me; I watch him as his eyes brighten. I know what is happening but I am confused.
I take a step back but he follows me "Has he ever tasted you?’’ he asks.
My heart thuds against my chest. I don’t like what is happening right now. I am scared but I can’t move. Maybe Darrien was right. It was stupid to think I could just trust someone I just met.
I watch as his teeth come out, the fangs that I have seen so many times on my mate but this time it feels predatory. It feels like a threat to me "I am going to have you,’’ he breathes into my ear and I want to scream. I want to push him away but I can’t. He raises his hands up and presses his finger to my forehead "For that to happen, you have to forget this conversation. I will retreat for tonight,’’ he taps his finger to my forehead and I get a flash.
"Thanks for inviting me over,’’ Lenny says as I open my eyes and I furrow my brows in confusion.
What just happened?
What were we talking about?
"You’re leaving?’’ I ask him, confused because I don’t remember the last couple of minutes.
"Yes, it is pretty late and I don’t want to upset Darrien. I’ll see you at school tomorrow?’’ he asks me. He takes a step towards the door and I watch him as he walks out of the apartment.
I don’t know what happened but I don’t want to overreact. I remember up until the glass of wine but I don’t remember anything else.
Why?
"He left?’’ Darrien comes out of the room.
I nod because I don’t know how to explain what happened tonight because I don’t even know what happened.
"Do you like him?" he asks me as he comes closer to me "Do you think you can be friends with the guy?’’
I shrug because I don’t know. It feels like there is a part of my memory that is missing right now.
"I don’t know."
He nods "I only want what you want, so if this is too much then we shut it down. You can hang out with him but only at the house and school. For now.’’
If this was earlier, I would have been jumping for joy but right now, I don’t think I want to hang out with him again.
Something doesn’t feel right.
Chapter 470: Jaina
Jabi
The next day, I walk around the halls in school with worry. I have been avoiding him and this is mainly because I didn’t tell Dar how I am feeling after last night. I had a sip of wine and I lost a piece of my memory. Does that even make any sense?
Right now, I am outside on the empty football field, under the bleachers. I am hiding because I don’t want Lenny to find me. I don’t want to see him because I am scared.
You should tell Darrien about this.
My wolf talks to me.
I wouldn’t have to if we could remember what happened.
I grab my phone and open a google search and type in my question, even though it is the most ridiculous thing ever.
Can you forget things after a sip of wine?
I read the first two results.
1. Forgetting things after drinking can be a sign of a serious mental illness.
2. Drinking wine can cause memory loss.
Maybe that is what happened.
I read the third result.
Why is it called a blackout?
That is when someone passes out without any physical injury.
Why don’t we remember these things?
I am reading the next result now.
Random memory loss, from alcohol.
That might be what happened to me! I want to forget about this. I drop my phone on the grass beside me and close my eyes. I knew the answer before I even tried to search for it. There is no way the memory loss came from the wine. I didn’t even drink enough to get drunk. I close my eyes because I am scared even though nothing has happened. My wolf is right, I need to tell Darrien what happened.
My phone beeps and I get a message.
Lenny: Hey.
I drop my phone as it beeps again.
Lenny: Where are you?
My hands tremble as I reach for the phone. I am not going to reply to him and maybe he will take a hint and leave me alone. Why did I start this? At the end of it all, it is all my fault. I am the one that caused this. I pushed and pushed and now I am being a coward and choosing not to handle this on my own.
I hear footsteps as someone walks under the bleachers on the other side of where I am. It is a girl, she sits down on the floor and there is a chocolate bar in her grip. Her hair is long and she is dressed in a blue and white cheerleader’s uniform. I watch her because she hasn’t noticed me and this is a distraction from the messages on my phone that I need right now. She opens the Twix bar and I watch her as she stuffs it into her mouth and then exhales slowly.
She is chewing the Twix and her eyes are closed. She slowly starts to move her hands on her head, swinging it from side to side. A big grin plastered on her face as she continues to chew. I have never seen someone eat chocolate so deliciously before. Once she is done with the bar, she pulls another one from her bag and does the same thing again.
She looks up and notices that I am watching her and her smile fades--almost like she is ashamed to have been caught.
I quickly pull my phone back to my view and look away from her. I don’t want her to be embarrassed right now, even though it seems like she already is.
"How long have you been here?’’
I quickly scroll through this and that and reply.
’’A little while.’’
"Did you see?’’ she asks me and she doesn’t have to complete her sentence. I know what she is talking about but I don’t think it is a big deal.
"Fuck,’’ she runs her hands through her hair as she stands up and starts to head for the exit.
"It was just chocolate." I point out but she shakes her head as she walks over to me.
"You can’t tell anyone you saw me here," she grabs my hands in hers and starts to shake me.
"I wasn’t going to tell anybody."
She looks at me and I shake my head at her. "I would never," I tell her as she lets go of my hands.
A smile sprawls to her face as she lets out a sigh of relief.
"Who are you by the way and how come I haven’t seen you around?"
She asks and pauses for a second before continuing.
"I am a new cheerleader and that is why I have to sneak to stuff my face,’’ she shifts closer to me and sits down on the grass. Her eyes dart from my face to the books on the floor.
"Who are you hiding from?’’ she adds another question even though I didn’t answer her previous one.
"I am Jabi," I tell her and she gives a small smile.
"Glad to meet you Jabi."
She is giving me another smile and I am watching her because she is so beautiful. Her cheeks rise up into her face and she is blushing as she looks at me.
A soft smirk rises on her face as she moves closer to me.
"You don’t even know my name," she mutters with a slow smile as she stands up from the grass.
I watch her as she walks over to the exit I was trying to go to earlier.
"Jabi?" she says.
"Yes?!" I quickly reply.
"My name’s Jaina,’’ she raises her hand up and places it on her lips "We have a secret, so that makes us friends,’’ she winks before walking out of my sight. A smile sprawls on my face as I pick up my phone.
I have to nip this in the bud. I can’t be friends with Lenny because he doesn’t seem like a good person and I am pretty sure he did something to me.
There is no other explanation as to why I can’t remember.
"Found you,’’ I hear his voice before I see him and my heart starts to race in fear.
Shit.
