Ch. 461..465: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 461-465
Chapter 461: Letting him go
Darrien
"You made me late,’’ he glares at me as he puts on his clothes hurriedly. I smile because I am guilty but he also played a part in it. He wanted me as much as I wanted him, so this is not all on me.
"You should hurry up then. I walk over to him and wrap my arms around his waist. He looks down at me and smiles, slipping his hands over my shoulders.
"You are doing it again,’’ he moves in the same rhythm as me and I look into his eyes, reaching for the button on his shirt.
"I am helping you.’’
He rolls his eyes "Like you helped me in the shower?’’ he raises a brow in question. I look at the clock on the wall and it is almost nine. He is over an hour late and I don’t want his first day to start off rough.
"Come on, let’s get you to school,’’ I tell him as I button the last of his buttons on his shirt. He nods and pulls away from me slowly. He bends down and I watch him as he slides his sneakers into his feet, one at a time.
I don’t know how I feel about spending some time away from him but this is something that he has been excited about and I don’t want to ruin it for him. I want him to have a life outside our relationship. I want him to find out who he is without me holding him back and going back to school and having a life is the only way he can do that. We get to my car and he puts on his seat belt immediately "Did you take enough blood with you?’’
I don’t want him going into thirst mode in school. He opens his eyes wide and I can already tell that he even forgot to bring any with him.
"Shit,’’ he curses and a smile sprawls on my face at him cursing. Jabi rarely curses, so this is amusing to me.
"I will be right back,’’ he tells me as he gets out of the car. I watch him as he runs into the apartment building. After a couple of minutes, he runs back into view with a thermal flask in his grip. He is breathing heavily as he jumps back on the seat.
"Are you sure you don’t want to just skip today? We could start afresh tomorrow." I suggest.
He shakes his head immediately as he puts the flask in his bag.
"I want to go, I will be fine.’’ he brushes it off immediately
I nod in agreement as I start the car, because at the end of the day. We do what he wants and this is what he wants.
We drive in silence for a while. I look out of the window and watch as we approach the school.
"Are you sure you will be ok?’’ I ask him as he looks at me.
"Yes,’’ he says with a smile
.I smile and nod. I don’t want to ruin his first day of school and I don’t want him to be worried about being without me.
"I will be fine.’’
He nods, looking out of the window but I can tell that he is nervous and a little worried. I let him sit in silence because he needs to do this on his own. Once we get to the entrance of the school building, he turns to me and smiles "So, I am probably just going to say I got lost for the lateness.’’
I smile and nod as he leans closer and plants a soft kiss on my lips. His kiss is short and I want to pull him into my arms and find a way to convince him to stay with me but I do the opposite and watch him as he walks out of the car and runs into the building.
I smile as I watch him disappear from view. I am going to miss him m but I am also glad that he is excited about something. Just as I am about to drive off, I get a text message from Lanis, asking me to come and drive him to see father with his babies. I smile because he has become such a parent that it is laughable. There was a time when I would have never pictured him with children and now he has two. I drive to the community and get there in less than thirty minutes. I park my car in front of their house and walk up the front steps until I get to the front of his room.
I hear Beau through the door "I can come with you,’ he suggests.
"You don’t have to. Darrien will be with me. You know we don’t have to do everything together," Lanis deters.
I knock on the door before they continue the conversation and Beau’s scowling face peers up at me "Thank you for doing this,’ he breathes out and runs his hands through his hair. He looks stressed out and kind of weird.
I look over his head and Lanis is packing a bag. The room is a mess, with clothes sprawled all over the floor.
"Okay, is this what having kids will do to you,’’ I walk into the room and jump on the bed. Lanis sighs loudly just as Beau walks back to him and grabs his hands "You good?’’ he asks him, completely forgetting that I am in the room and watching them.
Lanis nods his head "Yeah, thanks. I don’t know why I am so scattered this morning." he confesses.
I watch the scene, as Beau comforts his mate and it is beautiful to me. I watch them as they embrace and I can relate. This is how I feel about Jabi. There is no one that can make me feel any better than the man in my life.
It makes everything worth it.
"Ready,’’ Lanis tells me as he lets go of Beau and closes the bag. I stand up from the bed and walk up to him.
"Come on,’’ I slap his shoulder playfully, hoping there is no drama ahead of this visit.
Chapter 462: The friend
Jabi
I get a scolding from the principal for coming so late but other than that, classes go well and the day runs out smoothly. It is weird being away from Darrien and I start to have regrets midday as I sit alone in the cafeteria. There is a tray of food in front of me but the only thing I have been hungry for is blood. I am halfway through the flask and I don’t want to run out before the school day is over.
I look at the sandwich on my plate and tug at it, as I grab my phone from the table. I want to talk to Dar but I know he will be worried if I message him so early. I am having a hard time here and all I feel is regretting this decision. I wish I could have thought about it some more before coming back to school.
"Is this seat taken,’’ a voice distracts me from my thoughts and I look up to see a guy with the brightest smile on his face. His eyes are a light blue and they are a bit smudged up. He is wearing a black long sleeve shirt with a white collar and he has a dark blue tie with a red dot on it. He has a white button-up short sleeve shirt underneath. His hair is brown and slightly messy. He has a small nose. He is handsome but I don’t know what he wants right now.
"No, it’s not taken,’’ I say and he sits down.
"I’m Lenny,’’ he says and he extends his hand.
"I’m Jabi,’’ I say as I shake his hand, his hand is very cold. Almost as cold as Darrien’s.
"Nice to meet you,’’ he says as he sits down.
"Me too,’’ I say and we both eat our food.
"So what grade are you in,’’ he asks.
"I’m a sophomore,’’ I say.
"Me too,’’ he says and we both laugh.
"So what do you do when you’re not at school?’’ he asks me with that smile still on his face. I want to show interest in him, I want to make friends with him but I don’t know how to do it.
"I don’t know what you mean by that,’’ I say.
"I mean what do you do for fun?’’ he asks.
"I don’t know,’’ I say.
"What do you mean by that?’’ he furrows his brows in confusion. I get that he is trying to make conversation but I haven’t really had a fun life per se. I’ve just been living--that is until Darrien and even with that, I just like to spend all my time with him.
"You’re new in school, I haven’t seen you around before.’’
I nod "I was homeschooled,’’ I say.
"I see,’’ he says and he looks down at his food "It seems like you want me out of here and away from you.’’
I look up at him and shake my head immediately "No, I like your company, it is nice having someone to talk to.’’
He smiles at me and I start to feel a little better.
"I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way,’’ he says.
I nod
"So what are you doing after school?’’ he asks.
"It’s weird that he just walked up to me and wants to be friends. I have never had a friend before, so this is all new to me and I don’t know how to handle it.
"Uh...nothing,’’ I tell him shyly. He is still staring at me with this intensity that I cannot figure out. I look away from him and to the sandwich on my plate because it is better to focus on something inanimate.
"Do you want to hang out? I know this great bar on the other side of town. We could use this opportunity to get to know each other since we have decided to become friends."
I raise a brow "We decided?’’ I ask him with a smile on my face. He is very forward, that is the opposite of me. I could never be this direct about anything. I am surprised he is even interested in being friends.
"Yeah, let’s swap numbers,’’ he asks calmly, pushing his phone to me. I watch the unlocked phone on the table, unsure of what to do with it. I don’t know if this is a good idea. Darrien might not like him and if he doesn’t, then I can’t be friends with him.
"Come on,’’ he taps his finger on the table. I give in and pass my phone to him. I watch him input his number into my phone with a smile still on his face.
"Your turn,’’ he tells me and I give in to his pressure. The bell rings for the end of lunch and he jolts up from the chair. "I will call you Jabi,’’ he points to me before leaving me at the table, confused and a little curious.
A little over an hour into the next class, I feel a sensation inside me that I know all too well.
Thirst.
I pick up my thermal flask from the floor beside my table but it is empty. The English teacher is talking about something but I can’t pay attention as I start to panic.
"Shit,’’ I whisper out in frustration.
I can feel my body start to lose control. I know what will happen if I stay in class. If I am around all these people, with blood running through their veins.
I know I will want to feed.
I stand up and quickly and with permission, I rush to the bathroom. My phone is in my grip as my hands start to tremble violently. I need to call Darrien even though that was the last thing I wanted to do.
I hear footsteps outside the stall and I stiffen for fear of being around any humans. The scent is familiar but I can tell it that whoever it is, is not human. I hold my breath as the footsteps stop in front of my stall.
"Do you need help?’’ I hear the voice and panic takes hold of me once again.
Shit.
Chapter 463: Grandpa
Alanis
Father has been asking to see the babies and it has been over a month since they have been born. I can’t even tell anyone how difficult this month has been. I haven’t had a minute to myself and it feels like I am slowly losing my mind. Beau has been a big help through everything but it has been hard. Hard to understand their needs most times.
According to Alby, they are hybrids. This just means they are not werewolves or vampires. I don’t know what it means even though I know what a Hybrid is. Jabi is a hybrid but I don’t know exactly what it means.
Right now, there are two car seats inside Darrien’s car and I never thought this would be something I would ever see. It is weird and amusing to me at the same time and even though I have been tossing and turning to make sure they are okay back there, I still try to remain in the conversation with my brother.
"You know this is going to be awkward as fuck,’’ he mutters not even looking at me as the words escape his lips. I have no doubt that me with two babies is going to be weird to father. I mean, it took a while for him to even accept Beau and now I have two babies. This is something that shouldn’t happen to a vampire, talk less a man.
"Yeah but he wants to see them, he has been asking for a while now,’’ I manage because I am nervous.
He laughs "Does he really?"
I nod.
"Why hasn’t he come to the community, if he really wanted to see them?’’
I know that father is not comfortable in a den full of werewolves, I understand why he wouldn’t want to come but he has before and Darrien is a little right but I don’t want to think about that right now.
"He’s been busy,’’ I say.
"He’s been busy?’’ he asks sarcastically. My eyes dart to the back seat where the babies are and they are sleeping peacefully. This is the first time they have been this quiet since they were born.
"They seem to like being inside a car,’’ I speak out completely forgetting that we were having a conversation about father. Darrien looks into the red view mirror and a smile sprawls on his face.
"They like my car,’’ he jokes and I roll my eyes because he is just acting cute "I can give them rides whenever you need a time off,’’ he adds and that just warms my heart. I thought my being emotional would end after the pregnancy but I never went back to my normal self. Everything thing makes me cry, or smile, or look at the babies and I just can’t stop.
"Thank you so much, that is nice of you."
We get to the driveway of the mansion before he can respond and he parks the car in front of the house.
"Well here we are,’’ he mutters as we both get down from the car.
"Hey, help me with one of them?’’
He shakes his head immediately.
"What?’’
"No, I can’t hold them. I can’t even get close enough to touch them.’’
I laugh. "You can’t even get close enough to touch them?’’ I ask incredulously.
"No, I can’t,’’ he says and I look at him like he is crazy.
"Are you sure?’’
"Yes, I can’t,’’ he says and I can’t help but laugh. He doesn’t even try, He just opens the door and stomps his foot. Waiting for me to bring them out on my own.
"You know I can’t get them out alone,"
He rolls his eyes "I think Elu is home, I will get her for you. Wait here.’’ he leaves me before I can even try to convince him to help me and this just makes me laugh even more. Darrien will never change. He will always be like this, no matter how long he loves Jabi. I don’t have any problems with that because he has become one of my favorite people but it wouldn’t hurt him to be a little more helpful.
I wait in the car for a few minutes and then I see Elu walking down the stairs. She is dressed in a long black dress and she has her hair in a bun. She comes out and looks at me with a confused look on her face.
"What happened to Darrien? He literally dragged me out of the house,’’ she smiles but before I can respond to her, her eyes open wide as she notices them inside the car "Oh my god, they are so freaking adorable,’’ she squeals and the sound of her voice wakes Colin up. He squirms in the little car seat, slowly opening his eyes "Can I hold him?’’ she asks still gushing over him.
I smile "That is why Darrien brought you outside."
She hurries into the car and I watch her as she lifts him up in her arms and starts to drop kisses on his face. The smile on my face widens as I grab Colt, who is still sleeping and we walk in the direction of the house.
"I have been waiting for this moment for a while," she says as she carries him inside.
"Why?’’ I ask.
"I just love babies, I love the way they look at you, the way they smile, the way they smell, it is so cute," she giggles and I find it odd because being a vampire just means that you can’t have children. This was never in the works for us, so she must know that she will never have any.
"I know right?’’ I say with a smile. She carries him into the living room and we both sit down just as father walks in with Darrien.
"You are here,’’ he exclaims with a smile on his face.
He walks over to me and slowly his eyes shift from Colt to Colin "They look so much like you,’’ he points out.
I can’t help but agree with him because this is something I noticed. Their resemblance to me is uncanny.
Beau says he loves that everything he looks at them, they remind him of me. Darrien’s phone rings loudly and he walks over to it. I watch him as he walks away from us and after a couple of seconds, he comes back into the room.
"I need to leave.’’
I frown "You are my ride home,’’ I remind him
He nods "Elu can drive you.’’
Elu nods but father speaks up "I will drive you home. I want to spend some time with my grandchildren,’’ he collects Colt from me and I can’t help but smile.
There is nothing weird about this.
He is very accepting of it all.
Chapter 464: A scent like yours
Jabi
I have been trying to stay strong and control the bloodthirst because he is still outside and it is freaking me out. I know that whoever is outside is not human. His scent is like Darrien’s scent. He has the scent of a vampire but in this foggy state of mind that I am in, I just cannot recognize the voice but it seems very familiar.
"You don’t sound too good in there,’ the voice pipes in again concern etched in the voice. I close my eyes as I feel my fangs come out. I thought I had control over my blood lust. I brought a lot with me today, so how did I run out?
There is no way I can pretend like there is no one inside this stall because he already knows. I just need to convince him that I am okay. If I can do that, then maybe he will go away.
"I am okay,’’ I manage, but I don’t sound okay. I don’t even recognize the sound of my voice right now. It is croaky and very weak. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but I just don’t know what to do. The only thing I can do is to call Darrien for help. He is the one that I am supposed to call.
"Jabi,’’ the person on the other side of the stall calls out my name and this makes me open my eyes in confusion.
I don’t know anyone at this school but it seems like whoever this is, knows who I am "You can tell me if something is wrong,’ he adds but I remain quiet for fear of getting caught.
’Can you just leave?’’ I ask him as I take deep breaths in an attempt to calm myself down. My hands are trembling as I try to clean the sweat off my palms.
"I can help you, I know what you need,’’ he says as he moves closer to the door. I look at his shoes as he goes on his knees and bends down. The person is wearing a pair of black shoes. I can’t tell who he is from his shoes but the more I hear his voice, the more recognizable he is to me. I want to open the door and see who it is but I am scared of the reaction I will get.
I see his hands as he reaches out to me with a bottle "This will help,’’ he
says as he holds the bottle out to me.
I don’t know what to do with it. I am scared to look inside, I don’t know what he knows but it seems like he knows who I am. It seems like he knows that I need blood right now.
"Drink it,’’ his voice echoes through the bathroom walls and for the first time, I know who he is.
"Lenny,’’ I open the door, completely forgetting that I am in my vampire form right now. I know my eyes are glowing a bright blue like they usually do when I am out of control. I ignore all the warnings from my wolf as I look at him.
There is a smile on his face as he looks at me. Almost like a confirmation of something he already knew.
"You should drink it before you go crazy,’’ he nudges for the bottle with his head. I look at the bottle in my grasp. I can already tell that it has blood inside it. I need that right now and I can’t choose to be stubborn.
"How did you know,’’ I mutter as I take a big gup from the bottle. As the blood travels down my throat, I feel the relief that I lost a couple of seconds ago. He is watching me as I drink the blood hungrily, completely engrossed in it. I feel my body calm down as I take the final gulp and empty the bottle of the contents. I sit back down on the floor as I feel my body getting back to normal.
I am glad to see you are okay,’’ he says as he sits down on the floor beside me.
"Thank you,’’ I smile and nod at him.
"How did you know?’’ I ask him again, wanting to know even though now I am pretty sure that he is a vampire.
"I have known since I saw you at the cafeteria. You can’t hide your scent from someone like me.’’
"Someone like you?’’
He nods and I watch him as he rests his back on the side of the door, his eyes closing "Someone that has lived too long on this earth. Someone that knows a newborn when they see it.’
"I am not a vampire,’’ I tell him.
He opens his eyes "Yes you are."
I shake my head "I am a werewolf."
"I know, which makes this all the more interesting. I have never met your kind before,’’ he slides closer to me and I watch him sniff at me, closing his eyes as he does.
"Is that why you came up to me because I was interesting?" I ask him.
A smile spurs on his lips as he nods "I can smell the blood on you. It is almost intoxicating. I have been waiting for someone like you to come along.’’
I look at him, confused at his words but I don’t say anything.
"I should get back to class,’’ I try to stand up but he grabs my arm and stops me "Shouldn’t you go home, what if you get thirsty again?’’ he asks and I nod because he is right. I can’t go back to a room full of humans because it may trigger my thirst. I don’t want to do anything that will get Darrien involved in saving me.
"You are right,’’ I nod in agreement and he smiles.
I grab my phone and message Darrien to come pick me up. The only good thing about going home early is the fact that I will see Darrien earlier.
"I’ll wait with you,’’ Lenny smiles at me as he stands up and pulls me up to my feet. I nod, even though I am not sure it is a good idea.
Darrien wouldn’t like this.
Chapter 465: Pandora’s box
Darrien
I get Jabi’s message and I think the worse. I start to worry that something has happened to him. Jabi is a delicate person and he needs me to take care of him. I let him go to school because I trust him but I have been worried all day thinking about him. The only reason why I agreed to drive Alanis was to distract myself from my thoughts and they all revolved around him.
His message is vague.
Can you come and pick me up?
Of course, I can but he didn’t give me an explanation. I feel like I can’t breathe until I see him again. I don’t know what to think. I don’t know if he’s hurt or if something happened to him.
I don’t know if he’s in trouble or if he’s ok. I’m so confused. I do a fifteen-minute drive in five and once I am parked in front of the school, I see him outside on a step but he is not alone. There is a boy with him. They are talking but Jabi seems uncomfortable. I get down from the car and jog over to him hurriedly. He looks up and our eyes meet. I stop in front of him and he takes a deep breath as he comes closer to me.
"What happened?’’ I ask him immediately.
"Nothing, Lenny helped me,’ he points to the guy with him and his scent hits me immediately. He is a vampire, I didn’t know there were other vampires in our town.
"Lenny?’’ I ask.
"Yes, I ran out of blood and he gave me some of his,’’ he smiles. I am confused, I don’t know what is happening but I don’t trust this guy with my mate. I don’t even know who the fuck he is and they are acting all chummy and friendly.
"Come on, let’s go,’’ I grab his arm gently because I need to talk to him in private. I don’t want to be upset with him because I trust him but I don’t like the fact that he exposed himself to a stranger.
"Aren’t you going to introduce yourself first?’’ Lenny asks with a smirk on his face. It almost seems like he is enjoying the tension right now.
"He’s a friend Dar, you don’t have to worry about anything. We can trust him.’’ Jabi looks up at me with that look that makes me want to bend. That look makes me want to give him the world.
I can’t trust someone that I just met.
He shouldn’t trust someone that he just met. Jabi can’t actually believe that a vampire just appeared out of nowhere and wants to be his friend. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
There is no way I would be on board with this.
"Yeah Dar, we can trust me,’ he repeats. I turn back to face him, glaring at him. He is pissing me the fuck off.
"Don’t you ever call me that, in your fucking life,’’ I let go of Jabi and walk over to him "and stay the fuck away from Jabi,’’ I add warningly.
I don’t know who he thinks he is but I don’t trust him. He is dangerous and suspicious. He is a vampire and he is a stranger. I am not sure what his motive is but I am sure that there is one and I don’t want to find out.
Jabi is watching us with a look that is almost like he is going to cry. He is scared. I know he doesn’t like it when I am angry but I need to be angry right now.
I need him to stay away from this guy.
"I don’t mean anything by it. I am just trying to be friendly.’ he shrugs but there is still a smile on his face.
He is enjoying this a little too much.
"He doesn’t need your friendship. Just back off and stay away.’ I tell him.
"I don’t understand why you are so angry.’’ he says, "I helped your link and the least you could do is thank me. Do you know what he might have done if I didn’t show up?’’
Now that I think about it, I don’t think Jabi is ready for school. He is still a little out of control right now and I regret the decision of letting him go back.
"He doesn’t need your help. He would have called me."
Lenny scoffs with an eye roll "Yeah right.’’
I don’t know why I am initiating a conversation with this guy but I need to stop before things get out of control.
"Come on, let’s go.’’ I grab Jabi’s arm gently and walk away. The walk to the car is quiet and I am sure he can tell that I am upset with him right now. I don’t want to be upset but I don’t like that he didn’t call me immediately he felt like he was losing control. I don’t like that he drank blood from someone that I don’t know and I don’t trust.
We get to the car and he releases a breath "Why are you upset with me?’’
I turn to him and he looks at me with a confused look on his face. I don’t know what to say.
"I don’t know,’’ I tell him.
"I just wanted to make a friend and he seems nice. He helped me.’’ He is watching me and I see that he wants me to understand why he did what he did but I can’t right now. I need him to understand that he can’t just go around trusting people. We live the kind of life that should be secluded and he just opened the door to the outside world which could end up being a threat to our peaceful life.
Jabi is naive and he doesn’t know how dangerous the outside world is. I have lived long enough to know that I cannot trust anyone. It took a while for me to even trust Alanis and he is my brother.
I won’t trust this Lenny guy and I will make sure Jabi stays away from him.
