Ch. 606..610: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 606-610
Chapter 606: Honesty
Jabi
My arms are wrapped around him in a tight embrace but something feels off with him. We are both naked, he has this dreamy expression on his face but I know him and I can tell that something is wrong.
Something must have happened on his way back.
I don’t know what it is but it feels like it is something that he wants to get off his chest. "Do you want to talk,’’ I ask him as I push myself closer to him. He lets out a sigh and then I find my eyes on him. He is looking at me too and there is a lot of guilt on his face.
Slowly, he detaches from me and sits up on the bed, revealing his chest and lower abdomen. I pull the covers off me and sit up next to him. We just had sex, things are good. Why does he look so in his head right now?
"I need to tell you something but you have to promise not to get mad."
I shrug because I can’t make that promise unless I know what he has done. It doesn’t actually feel like he has actually done anything. More of, he thinks he has but it might now be the case.
"What happened?’’
I plan on being very understanding. I don’t want to fight with him, I don’t want to have any issues with him. All I want to feel is happiness and that is the mood I want to stay in at this moment. He just came back and I am so grateful to the gods for bringing him back to me.
He runs his hands through his hair and the frustration oozes out of him. There is one thing that Darrien has never been and that is scared. He might be anything but I always used to wonder why he didn’t ever have fear. He is the kind of person that would walk into a fire without even thinking twice—to protect the one he loves. Right now, he looks so scared.
What could he have possibly done to make him this scared?
I reach for him and he closes his eyes as I cup his face gently. There is a soft smile on my face. This is me assuring him that nothing is going to happen. I will not let whatever this is mess things up between us. I love him too much and whatever this is, is probably inconsequential.
"You can talk to me, you know that right?’’
He nods his head.
"Do you remember the person I talked about? The one that helped me find you when that bastard took you?’’
I nod.
He is watching me, there is still hesitation in his voice. He is scared even though he doesn’t need to be. "She is an ex. Rather, she is the only real relationship I have ever had in all of my life."
I freeze at his words.
I don’t want to have a reaction because I want him to always be able to talk to me but I don’t have a choice in the matter because I have always thought that I was the first real relationship that Darrien had. He has talked about numerous partners but he has never told me about anything real. Knowing that she exists and he didn’t tell me about it makes me feel a little jealous.
"Oh,’’ I manage. I don’t want to make it obvious that this is actually getting to me.
I trust Dar but at the same time, knowing that there is something that I haven’t been aware of is kind of bugging me. His eyes are still on me as he continues "There is nothing going on between us,’’ he shakes his head immediately, almost like he read my mind. "I needed her. She was the only one that could help me find you."
Needed her?
That makes it sound even worse.
I don’t want him to ever need her.
"You didn’t tell me then, so why are you telling me now. Something else must have happened." I point out because there has to be more to this story that I really don’t want to listen to.
"I’ve been in contact with her all through this trip. She was the only one that could help me with Blue and the coven drama. She is a witch."
A witch?
"Oh.’’
I don’t even know how to respond to all that he is telling me. It stings so much but I have to take into consideration that he is being honest with me and that is all I ask for in this relationship. He is doing all the right things but why does it feel so wrong right now.
Why is this jealousy seeping out of me so badly?
"Do you still feel anything for her?’’ I ask the only question that is important to me. Even if it is just an inkling of emotion. It will kill me and eat me up into pieces.
I don’t want to hear it if he does.
"I don’t. Amber is not someone that I could even think about. I needed her and the only thing I feel is guilt because I used her to get what I want and it feels like she isn’t completely over m,’’ he confesses.
Amber? So that is the name of the other real thing in my mates’ life.
Fuck.
She is not over him.
She still loves him but he doesn’t love her. He cannot love her because he loves me and I am the only one that matters to him. He pulled her back into his life and it is all my fault. I am the reason why he felt the need to call her, to bring her back into his life.
"So, is this thing over? Are you done needing her?’’ I ask him. All he needs to do is just stop communicating with her. There is no point in bringing that kind of drama into our lives.
"Yes. I just needed to let you know. I don’t want to ever hide anything from you."
I smile. I reach for him and grab his hands in mine slowly "It’s okay. As long as she stays in the past. It doesn’t matter,’’ that is the honest truth.
I don’t care about AMBER.
"There is more,’’ he blurts out.
I raise a brow.
Okay.
Chapter 607: Vulnerability
Darrien
He is looking at me.
He is assuring me that things are fine but I know him. Just the same way that he knows me, I know that there is something about what I have said so far that he doesn’t like. He doesn’t like that she exists. I don’t even like that she exists but what can I do. I can’t completely erase my past just to be the best for him.
It exists and I need him to see it all.
I need him to know it all.
"Okay.’’ he manages. He is still holding my hand but now it feels like he is squeezing me tightly from all that he feels. I don’t mind if he gets upset. That just means that he cares. I know that he cares. I know how much he loves me, so he doesn’t need to hide how he feels to make me feel better.
I know that it was shitty bringing Amber into my life again but at that moment, all I thought about was him and making sure he was in my life. I didn’t care that she was an ex, I didn’t care that we had a past that wasn’t even settled.
"My past is not clean. I have done a lot of things that I regret. Things that I don’t even like to think about.’’
That is the truth.
I wasn’t the best person.
I don’t even deserve all the happiness that I have now. I know it and that is why I live my life being grateful for the way it turned out. I didn’t think about the consequences of my actions. I acted without a care in the world.
"What kind of things?’’ he asks quietly. There is no judgment in his voice. No anger, nothing. He is just quiet."
I know that once I say all these things out, there is no taking it back. He might look at me differently, he might come to think that I am a monster. I don’t know how he will react to this. Jabi has the purest heart, he was so innocent when I met him. Hidden away in the coven, he hasn’t seen the outside world. He doesn’t know anything about vampires. He doesn’t know the things that vampires do to humans—telling him now will show him a little of that dark world that I always wanted to shield him from.
"I met Amber in a club one night. I didn’t know she was a witch. Somehow, her scent was hidden so I couldn’t tell. I didn’t even care. I was too far gone that night."
"What do you mean by far gone?’’ he asks.
"You know how humans get drunk from alcohol?’’ he nods "Well we get drunk when we drink a lot of blood directly from a human.’
His eyes open widely as it registers. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I like the way that he looks at me. Telling him all this might just change things. I would hate for him to see me in the light I see myself sometimes. It would kill me.
"Oh.’’
He has been saying a lot of OH’s all night and I don’t blame him. I can’t just spring this all on him and expect him to just accept it all.
"Yeah, so I was half out of my mind when I saw her. I took her home, with the intention of just feeding off her. There is this thirst a vampire gets, almost like a high. I was already at that place. I didn’t want to come off it. I would have done anything to keep being in that place. I would have killed her.’’
This is something that I never thought I would ever say to him.
Fuck, this is harder than I thought it would be.
He is looking at me and for the first time in a long time, I can’t read him. I can’t even tell what he is thinking and I hate that so badly. "Shit, maybe you don’t need to know all this. I don’t like the way you are looking at me.’
I stand up from the bed because my mind is in a fog. I don’t like the way I feel right now. I have never been as honest as I am with him and it is a kind of vulnerability that I didn’t even know I had. I walk over to the window and stop in front of it. My hands are shaking awfully.
I hear his footsteps but I don’t turn around. I don’t think I can look at him right now—especially with the way he is looking at me.
Shit.
He stops walking and I wait, unsure of what he wants to do. I want him to hold me and assure me that nothing would change between us. I am still naked and suddenly the air around me is cold. It feels like I am frozen in time. I want to get out of this ice state that I am in. I run my hands through my hair as I look out at the night sky. The moon is shining above us and it is a beautiful sight.
I don’t feel so alone knowing that the goddess is watching over us.
It is weird but I know that we will be fine. I feel him touch my back softly. It is a light graze that I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t so familiar with all of him. I know his touch, his scent. I can feel him even when he is miles away. This is the man I love. I will feel him no matter what.
"I am not judging you. I don’t care about your past and the things that you have done—as long as you know and you want to do better."
I turn to him and he has a faint smile on his face. He is trying to make me feel better. "I love you Dar, I love you so much and that is all that matters to me, so if this is too hard for you. You don’t have to tell me. Whenever you are ready, I will be here to listen to you. I will always be by your side."
I feel a pang in my chest at his words.
He is amazing.
So amazing.
Chapter 608: Nothing to dwell on
Blue
I don’t want to even deal with this right now and Major is not saying anything. He came into my room and he hasn’t explained anything. I don’t know what he could possibly want to show me but the walk to the potion room feels like the longest walk I have ever had to take.
I thought this was over. In my mind, I had dealt with the worst by killing her, so now, I don’t know what the hell this is and why I am even needed. I don’t have any plans on staying in this place. I don’t have any reasons to. I literally have no family in the coven anymore.
I would be deceiving myself if I actually say I belong here. I am going to stick to the community. That is all that matters to me. My family are my mates—Gyles and Rex.
"What is this about?’’ I ask Major because I wish he would just give me a straightforward answer.
"It just is something that I think you need to see on your own."
Rex and Gyles are both beside me. Gyles is the most interested in whatever this is. There is this numbness that I feel. Like her death hasn’t actually sunk in. I have already mourned her death. This would not be the first time that she would die, so I don’t see any reason as to why I would need to even mourn this time—since I am the one that even killed her. For now, all I know is that we need to leave this place. Whatever decision is being made can be made without me.
"So, there is a book in the room and a bunch of other things. You need to see it for yourself."
We get to the potion room and he walks in first. I watch him as he walks into the door "I think the fact that she is dead shows the true picture of things. This place was never there before. Like the door, it was hidden. Now it is just in plain sight.’’
He points out but I already noticed that.
We walk into the door until we get to the hallway. The door to that room is open and I smell the stench that comes from it before we even get close enough to it. I hate the smell. It sickens me that she even used to spend time in that place and not even feel any guilt. My mother is the worst kind of person out there and these are the reasons why I am unable to mourn her death.
We get to the room and I see what he is talking about. Him mentioning plain sight is all clear. The bones, the bodies, some are even fresh. They were all there, all along. In plain sight. Things that we didn’t see. They are all clear as day.
"What the fuck,’’ Gyles exclaims and I watch him as he leaves the room hurriedly. He was the first one that came in here. It traumatized him, so I can’t even imagine how this must feel now.
I let him leave the room and my eyes dart to Rex. He is closer to the door and he doesn’t even make a move to come inside.
"This is worse than I thought,’’ I manage still in shock at the sight in front of me.
My hands are shaking. I don’t want this to affect me but I have no choice. These people were murdered. Their blood is tainted on the whole place. It is sad and I can’t even imagine that she would do such a thing and not even have any guilt. I wanted the remorse, the begging but until her death, she didn’t even show any signs.
"The book is still here, the one she was using. It has a lot of darkness in it.’’ Major adds calmly. I turn to the table that the book was on and it is still there. It almost seems like it is glowing. Trying to attract another person to it.
I won’t even blame the kind of magic for the person she became. My mother was just a heartless soul and nothing could have ever changed that. There is nothing to blame for the kind of person that she was and I need to remember that.
"The people in here, how do we set them free?’’ Gyles’s voice comes through from the door and I turn to him slowly. He doesn’t look like he wants to be here. I don’t even want to be here.
"The spirits in here are crying but the thing keeping them trapped is the book. For now, I don’t know how to get rid of it. I don’t think it is possible to get rid of it but there must be a way to release them.’’ Major informs us.
"They are not in that book, they are in ours,’’ Gyles interjects. He is passionate about this topic. Almost like he can’t just wait for all this to be sorted.
"I know what you mean, but your book is what is protecting them right now, her book is what is keeping them trapped."
I understand what he means and suddenly it looks like Gyles does too.
"How do we change that?’’
"I can’t tell you now but with research, I could find a way to at least bind the book now that she is dead. Give me a couple of days to sort it all out.’’
"Do we have to be here,’’ I ask because the sooner we can leave the better for us all.
He raises a brow and I can see it in his eyes. He wants me to stay. Major will end up running the coven. They need a leader and he is the best option. I also know that he wouldn’t want to do it on his own but I am the last person to even ask to stay.
I don’t want to be here any longer.
There is nothing here for me.
Chapter 609: A true family
Alanis
"You all are good, that is all that matters,’’ I echo into the night. Having this phone call was a relief that I didn’t even know I needed. It took a lot of convincing to get Darrien to go to the coven to pick Rex up. I knew they would need him and like I suggested before, they couldn’t do it on their own.
"Yeah, we just have to stay here until this thing with the book and the ghosts are sorted out,’’ Gyles breathes his explanation through the phone.
He sounds exhausted. I don’t blame him. The plight he has been dealt is not for the faintest of hearts but I know that he will come out of this stronger.
"I have missed you?’’ I manage because, in all honesty, Gyles is the one person in the pack that I get along with. He has become family in such a short amount of time and I don’t want anything to happen to him. My hands hold Colm tighter as I feed him the bottle in my other hand. He is asleep but somehow cranky tonight.
"Oh really, I thought you would be happy to be rid of me?’’ he chuckles into the phone for the first time since he answered my call.
I laugh and this makes my baby shuffle, almost awake "Shit, you almost woke Colt up,’’ I whisper in through my Airpods.
He laughs and I roll my eyes.
"How are the little ones?’’
I look at my baby in my arms and I can’t help but smile. They have become such a big part of my life that I can’t even imagine the times I was living without them. All the uncertainties and worries that revolved around them once upon a time suddenly feel so distant. Like, when I even think about all the negative thoughts I had involving them. I hate myself even more. Now, I am just focused on them and all the good things they have brought to my life.
"They are great. A Pain in the butt at night but great otherwise,’’ I joke playfully.
I don’t even need sleep. So taking care of them is more of my responsibility than Beau as he is always busy with Alpha duties. It is not really even a debate because I love my children—more than life itself. This is something that I get joy from.
"Why are you not asleep?’’ I ask him over the phone.
He sighs "I can’t sleep in this place. I don’t think I will ever be able to think about all the things that happened here.’’
I understand and I can relate. There are monsters out there. People like Analise exist. Blue’s mother deserved to die and I just hope that this is the last time we hear from her again. "You should try to get some shut eye. Don’t want to be exhausted through the whole process."
I watch as colt finally falls back into a deep sleep. The door opens and a sleepy-eyed Beau walks into the room slowly. He reaches for the baby in my arms and I let him take him. I watch as he places him in his empty crib and then walks over to me.
"You should get some rest,’’ he points out as he gets on his knees in front of me. I am seated on the rocking chair, so as he grabs my knees, the chair moves a little.
"I am not tired."
Vampires don’t get tired. As long as we have blood, we can stay up for days. I have had a lot of blood and he knows that.
"The bed feels so empty without you, you know I hate sleeping alone,’’ he pouts his lips and I can’t help but smile at how adorable he gets with me. This is a side of Beau that no one else ever sees. Like he would act all tough and macho with the members but when it comes to me, he is a big baby.
I grab his hands in mine and he squeezes them softly "Come to bed,’’ he whines, leaning closer to my face. I pull him up from the floor and his eyes stay fixed on mine. "You can’t spend all your time with them and neglect me,’’ he adds.
You see—big baby.
"Are you jealous of your own children?’’ I ask him jokingly.
He nods his head immediately "Yes I am. I want you with me tonight. They are asleep. They don’t need you right now." he closes his eyes and I use the opportunity to kiss him. He lets go of my hands and what was supposed to be a short kiss turns into more as he pulls me closer to him.
I don’t even know what time it is but just a kiss from him is giving me so much energy "Come to bed,’’ he whispers into my mouth. His voice is mesmerizing. I can’t even resist him.
"Okay." I agree finally, checking the cribs one last time to make sure that they are asleep. Once we get to the room and on the bed, Beau pulls me into his arms tightly. There is a dreamy smile on his face. I love that he can get satisfaction from just holding me.
"We should bring their cribs into our room,’’ Beau speaks up suddenly.
I slightly pull away from him with raised brows "Why?’’
He shrugs "I don’t know. Maybe if they are here, you wouldn’t have any reason to leave me alone,’’ he smiles.
I roll my eyes "I am here now.’’
"Yeah but—"
I cut him off "You don’t have to worry about anything. You don’t have to be jealous. I am enough for the three of you.’’
I am teasing him and he knows it from the smile on his face. He likes that I know how much he craves my presence and I crave his too but at the same time. Things are different now.
We have children now.
We are a true family.
Chapter 610: Finding its weakness
Blue
A week passes by and I think everything is starting to settle in this place. The bodies of the elders are found. They are buried and mourned as it should have been and everything seems to be going well. I have heard a lot of talk from the people in the coven.
They are all on the same page with me.
They all want Major to take over.
How do you even think about someone else when all the arrows are pointing to him? He literally saved this place from my mother’s terror and he deserves it.
I have mentioned it to him once but it doesn’t even seem like it is something that he wants. I don’t want to be the one to convince him because this has to be a decision that he makes for himself. The coven is scattered. Like it is going to have to be brought up from the ground up. The people are in shambles and there is a lot of instability.
I want to just ex the town and go back to my home but I also want to help get things sorted out. This might now be my fault but at the same time, it is my mother’s.
Major hasn’t figured out this thing with the book. So I have been in the potion room for a while, looking for a solution. I don’t just want to sit and be useless. If I can help, I want to. I mean this mess is ours to fix.
The door opens and I see Major as he walks into the darkly lit room. He smiles as he gets closer to me. I drop the book on the table.
"Any luck?’’ he asks calmly.
I shake my head.
"I wish we could just burn the book and be rid of it.’’
He laughs "If only it was that easy. Something so powerful can’t easily be destroyed."
"Like my mother?’’ I ask.
There has been this thought in my head. One that has been on my mind ever since I killed her. What if she is not dead?
I mean it will not be the first time that she would surprise us by coming back. What if she had another body and we got the wrong one? I am scared shitless because I don’t ever want to have to face her again. I don’t want to think about her, I don’t even want to talk about her.
"She is gone Blue, don’t worry about that.’’
"How do you know?’’
I checked the mausoleum, I saw her body.’’
"What if it wasn’t the real her."
He sighs. He doesn’t also want to think or talk about her. He is on the same page with me. "You have to let this fear go. Your mother is dead, don’t worry about anything.’’
I look at him and the expression on his face is fierce. "Are you going to take the title?’’ I ask him, changing the topic.
"I don’t want to.’’
"Why not?’’
He shrugs "Are you going to stay in the coven?’’
This is what he has been wanting to ask me. I have known for a while "I don’t belong here.’’ I tell him honestly.
He frowns "Because you are a werewolf?’’
I shake my head "Because of my mother. You know that the people in this place will never respect me. I will only bring reminders of the past."
"Is that what you are worried about?’’
I shake my head "I have a family. They don’t belong here either.’
"What If things were to change? What If I take over and change all the rules that are in place?’’ He is trying to convince me but that won’t work. I can’t stay here because of all the memories. Because of all the things that have happened.
"It doesn’t make a difference Maj, this place is not home to me anymore."
I watch him as he sits down opposite me and then he grabs the book in my grip. I let him because we are better off finding a solution with him helping "Would you come to visit? His eyes are fixed on the book, he doesn’t even look at me.
"I wouldn’t mind if you come to visit me at the community.’’
He looks up suddenly "Are witches allowed?’’
I nod my head "anyone is allowed. You are family.’’
My words are true and honest. I consider Major family. He deserves that title and more for all the things that he has done for me. I appreciate him. I appreciate the kindness and everything else.
"You are family too."
He looks at the book again and I watch him as he flips through the pages. I grab one of the books on the far end of the table and I start searching through it.
The CURSE.
I see a heading and then a spell.
Every magic can be bound, stopped and destroyed. All you need is the source, the beginning and the inception.
Find what makes it strong and that will be its weakness.
"Look at this,’’ I slide the book to him and show him the page. He reaches for it and I watch him as he reads the page I just read.
"What does this mean? There is no explanation here. These are just riddles."
He is not wrong but this is something.
"Do you think we can handle the book the same way that we handled my mother?’’ I ask him. He furrows his brows in confusion. "Like what if we just have to give in to the attraction that comes from the book. What if that is the only way we can destroy it?’’
He shakes his head "You cannot destroy a book of evil, you should know that by now."
I know he is talking about the fact that I have one too but it is just a thought. "The book I have didn’t call out to me. It called out to Gyles, I don’t know why.’’
"You want the book to choose someone else?’’ he asks.
I shrug "Not everyone can handle that power. We will just find ourselves another Analise if we do that.’’ he tells me.
I know.
"So what do we do?’’
He shrugs "Let’s call out the book as this says. Let’s give in and then see what happens."
This is a risk. Just like it was a risk to give in to the book we had. I feel like we have no other choice. There is no other way to end it all.
