Chapter 621: Meeting the ex

ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

Jabi

"Why?’’

He is so confused and I don’t even have the answer to his question.

Why do I want to meet his ex-girlfriend?

I am opening a Chapter of our lives that is touchy. It is obvious that there are still lingering feelings when it comes to her and he feels a lot of guilt. Darrien might seem like an insensitive person. Like he could care less about the feelings of other people but he does and he cares too much right now.

This is the most I have seen him care about anyone—except me of course.

Maybe we need to have a conversation with this woman. Let her know that there is no chance. He left her without a word, in the middle of the night and suddenly, he went back to her. Granted, it was to help me but he could have looked for another witch. Why did it have to be her?

He has opened a can of worms and I need to dispose of it because this will always linger in our relationship and I can’t have that.

"Can’t I?’’

He shakes his head immediately but he is still holding me tightly. Now even more than before, like he is scared to let go of me in the midst of our conversation "I don’t think it is a good idea.’’

"Why?’’

"Amber is not someone that you want to invite into our lives.’’

"But you invited her already, didn’t you?’’

He sighs "I had no choice."

"I get that, but I think I should meet her. Maybe if she sees that I am real, maybe she would move on.’’

He scoffs "Amber is not the kind of person to just leave things be."

"She could have changed. I mean, she helped you when you needed her. What if she is a different person.’’

"And what if she isn’t?’’

I can sense the fear in his eyes and maybe he has every right to be afraid. He would know her better than me but from all he has told me, it doesn’t seem like she wants to hurt him. It sounds like she really cares about him.

Basically, the reason he broke up with her was because she tried to control him. Tried to keep him for herself.

"Baby, I get that you want to control the situation but you shouldn’t have to. I will not have anything to do with her. I made that clear the last time we had a conversation." he lets go of me and grabs my hands in his.

"Please just let me do this. You said she came to you in the car, which means that she can come to us here. So we wouldn’t have to meet in person.’

"It would be a connection. I would be letting her inside me."

He looks hella guilty right now. He has done that twice already. Yeah, he did it once for me and the other time because of our family. I can’t fault him for using any means to protect the ones he love but he is blaming himself. He might not say it but I can feel the guilt and it is eating him up.

"I will be here with you. You don’t have to feel guilty about it.’’

He looks away from me.

This is hard for him.

"I promise, this will make things better,’’ I lean forward and plant a soft kiss on his right temple, he closes his eyes as I plant more kisses on his face. He didn’t tell me about this but I can feel it. He might not have to use his words but I feel it. This is the solution to the Amber dilemma.

"I will have to call her.’’

I nod.

"She might not agree to this."

I nod again "You just have to try. If she doesn’t want to meet me, I will let this go." I assure him.

Deep down, he knows that she is going to agree to this.

"Okay,’’ he agrees finally. This time, I can feel him accepting it. He doesn’t want to do this but he is doing this because of me and in the end, this will make things better.

"I need to get my phone,’’ he grabs me by my waist and places me on the bed gently. I watch him as he walks out of the room and into the living room. Slowly, I stand up from the bed and walk out of the room. He is standing near the couch staring at his phone intently.

"Do you think it is too early to call?’’

I shake my head "I am sure she is awake,’’ I manage an encouraging smile. He is nervous. I get that. This is weird. I am asking to meet his ex-girlfriend but I feel like this is the only way he can completely move on from her—the only way that SHE can move on from him. The moment, she sees that I am real, she will let go of this.

At least there is just this part of me that feels that way.

I just hope I am not wrong.

He presses the phone to his ear and I see his hands shake as he waits for her to answer the call. I hear the click and then her voice from where I am standing. I am far away from him but my senses are heightened at this moment. Maybe it is curiosity, I just want to know who she is.

"Darrien,’’ his voice echoes through the room. There is surprise mixed with a hint of excitement.

He is looking at me as he speaks to her. I watch him as he tells her that I want to meet her. I know she must be confused but I hear her as she agrees to it. Her voice is calm, with a lot of tension.

"Yes, you can. I let you in.’’ Darrien mutters, still looking at me.

I watch as a bubble starts to form. I watch as she appears in front of me. The moment I see her, and all her beauty, jealousy kicks in.

She is gorgeous.

Chapter 622: The night before it all went to shit

Darrien

I am such a wuss for Jabi and he knows that.

No one in their right mind would agree to this—well except me because I must have finally lost all my sense.

Amber, my ex is standing in my living room. The woman that I didn’t even want to talk about until recently. I silently prayed that she wouldn’t agree to this meeting but who was I kidding. Of course, she would say yes to this. She would look for anything to get closer to me and Jabi thinks it is a good idea to do this.

Rex told me to be honest but I didn’t need to be about Amber because he already knew about it before I even said anything.

Amber became a cloud over our heads the moment I mentioned her. He said he was okay with it but I wouldn’t have been and I didn’t expect him to just move on from it when I couldn’t.

She is here now but I still don’t know what he could possibly want to say to her. When I first met Jabi, he couldn’t even look me in the eye. He wasn’t one to confront anyone, even if he had to and now, here he was laying claim on me. I should be proud.

Right now, I am nervous as fuck.

Three of us stand in the living room. I haven’t said anything and neither has Amber. I didn’t give her a reason as to why this was happening but she agreed to it immediately. The part of my mind that worries a lot keeps thinking that something will happen. I just can’t believe her completely. Amber is selfish and Jabi seems to think that she has changed but I can’t believe that.

No one changes that easily.

"Hi,’’ Jabi manages and his voice is clear and very confident.

Huh.

"Hi?’’ she responds as he walks closer to where she is. Amber isn’t really here but her soul is. Her body is still in her house, so it will be easy for her to leave. Oh how I am praying that she leaves peacefully.

"I am Jabi,’’ he stretches his hand out, I don’t think he has realized that she can’t touch him, at least unless she wants to "Oh, you are not really here,’’ he adds once he figures it out.

There is a smile on his face.

"I have heard all about you. Darrien can’t seem to stop talking about you,’’ she smiles.

I haven’t even said anything to her about him—okay maybe I have but it’s not like we have been having conversations about my life like she is making it seem.

"Oh, that’s nice. I have heard a lot about you too. Thank you for coming through.’’

Wow.

This is going very civil.

"I would do anything for Darrien."

Oh shit.

Not the best thing to say to my partner. I see the flash of jealousy as it swarms his eyes and I expected that but I also expect him to react out rightly but he doesn’t. I hear the quiet sigh, it is so low that I wouldn’t have heard it if I wasn’t paying attention but I am paying attention to him.

I always pay attention to him.

Amber is here now but Jabi is the only one I can focus on. He will always be the only one.

Nobody can change that.

"Anyone that is a friend to Dar, is a friend to me. As long as you know that nothing and no one, can try to even take him away from me. I don’t have a problem with any of this. I don’t have any issues with you."

"I don’t want to take him from you. I have always known that you existed. Even before he did.’’

I look at her immediately because I can’t understand what she is saying.

"What?’’ I ask, speaking up for the first time since she came here.

She turns to me.

"You might have not known who your mate is, but I knew. I saw him that night that you found out.’’

My heart stops in my chest.

Okay.

I didn’t know this.

The night I found out about the spell she was making. The night I found out that she was trying to block me from finding my mate. I left her. I didn’t say anything to her.

I didn’t care about the times we spent together.

I didn’t care that I loved her.

Nothing else mattered but Jabi—even though I didn’t know him then.

"I wasn’t going to go through with it. I was going to let you go,’’ she says slowly. I don’t even think her words are registering. I am trying to comprehend it all but my mind is in a daze.

"What are you talking about Amber?’’

I call her name coldly.

She walks over to me, moving away from Jabi. My eyes dart back to him. I need to make sure that this is okay. I don’t want to have this conversation if he is not comfortable.

He smiles at me, slowly nodding.

"You said you were okay with being with me. You didn’t like waiting for your link and I was happy about that because I loved you and you loved me. I let it get to my head. That night, when you told me that you wouldn’t mind if you didn’t find her. I thought that was you giving me permission."

I didn’t mean it like that.

I was happy with her but I still wanted what my brothers had.

I just didn’t want to hurt her.

"You didn’t ask me, you would have just done it."

She shakes her head "No, I didn’t go through with it. I spent months looking for a way. I finally found one but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t take that away from you.’’

"I saw it all. You kept the materials."

She nods "Yes that was before I checked. Before I saw your future. Before I saw him and how happy he would make you. I wasn’t going to take that away from you. I wasn’t.’’ she shakes her head incessantly and my heart shatters.

Shit.

Chapter 623: Letting go of it all but you

Jabi

This is what I wanted.

Okay, maybe I didn’t think it would go this way but I at least wanted to make sure that they had a conversation about the past. I wanted to give Dar closure and it seems like I didn’t even need to try too hard.

The truth.

What happened all those years ago?

I thought I would have to warn Amber that she should stay away from my man but she didn’t come here to fight. She didn’t come here to stake her claim like I did. When I said that I don’t have any issues with her, I meant it. I genuinely don’t hate her. How can I hate someone that helped me? Someone that loved the person that I loved. As long as she wasn’t a threat to Darrien or our relationship. I could never hate her.

"That is why I didn’t look for you. I didn’t want to be a hindrance to your happiness." The words flow out of her mouth so easily but I believe her. I don’t know why but it doesn’t seem to me like she is lying.

I sense the honesty in her tone and it might be wrong of me to assume but I do.

"That doesn’t make any sense.’’ He shakes his head in disbelief.

He has lost trust in her. I can see it but he needs to let go of the past and this is the only way that he will.

"You don’t have to believe me D, but that’s what happened. I didn’t even know that you saw my findings. I didn’t know that you knew about that. I just thought you had found him,’’ she looks away from him and her voice lowers "I just thought you had left me because of him."

I see the tears through her light.

She might not be here but I feel her pain.

She is hurting right now and she is not doing this to be vindictive. She genuinely wants him to be happy.

"Fuck, this makes it worse. I have gone on for so long hating you and you are telling me that I can’t do that anymore?"

He is beating himself up for this.

"I wish you wouldn’t hate me. I wish you can forgive me for the past.’’

Words.

They might just be words but they gut at my soul. This is Darrien’s ex. She should be a threat to me but all I feel is a pain for her.

I want him to forgive her so badly.

I don’t mind if they become friends.

I want her to be happy.

He runs his fingers through his hair "What am I supposed to do now. How am I supposed to just let it go?"

I am not needed here. I am just watching the scene play out and there isn’t even a shred of jealousy inside me. Darrien has had relationships, he has lived a long life. One that I didn’t even belong in. Our life just started, so it is not like I never expected him to have just waited for me to arrive.

"You don’t have to. You just have to forgive me,’’ she walks over to him until she is in front of him.

I watch them, almost like I am holding my breath. Waiting for this to end. I want him to forgive her too.

I want him to let go of the anger he has been carrying.

"Please," she adds, slowly reaching for his arm. I watch him and he doesn’t push her away from him.

"I am sorry D, I am so sorry.’’ she closes her eyes and I watch them silently. They don’t need me to say anything. He doesn’t need me to push him right now. He will do this on his own. He is ready to forgive her.

Nothing else needs to be said.

He is going to let this go. Let the past go and I can see it in his eyes. I see the pain that she must have caused but I also see acceptance and forgiveness. "Thank you,’’ she voices out croakily.

The tear stains on her cheeks are like drawings on a painting. She looks mystical, if I didn’t know that this was magic, I would be in complete awe. Darrien doesn’t touch her, he doesn’t say a word but I understand him completely. A part of me was worried that something bad would come from this. I mean, it seems like whenever we are catching a break, something always comes around but I am putting all the negativity behind me.

Letting go of all the bad things and moving on. That is the only way that I will be truly happy in the community. I hated this place and maybe a part of me still feels that way because of the way omegas are treated but I need to look at the positives, Beau is different—he is doing things differently and that should count for something. He wants me as a part of his family, he has always treated me like family, even when everyone seemed to think that he was wasting his time with me.

He saw that I was worth it and that is all I should remember from this place. I don’t need to remember all the people that told me I wasn’t. The people that thought I would eventually die alone.

That doesn’t matter anymore.

Amber turns to me and her smile radiates through the room "Thank you Jabi,’’ she calls out my name for the first time and it sounds so familiar.

I feel a warmth that I didn’t think I would feel.

She doesn’t wait for me to say anything else as she disappears like a flash out of the room. I walk over to Darrien and he pulls me into his arms immediately. He is not crying but he looks very emotional right.

"I hated her for so long. Meeting you made me hate her even more. She almost took you away from me.’’

I know that he keeps thinking about what she almost did but I’d like to think that no matter what has happened, I would have still found my way to him. Our love is too strong, stronger than her magic.

It will stand the test of time.

"I love you."

Chapter 624: A great life

Beau

Two years later

"Papa.’’

I grab Colm in my arms and he wraps his tiny fingers around my neck. His eyes bore into mine and my heart melts inside my chest. It has been a year and I still get weak from looking at my babies.

They are identical but they have different characters.

Colm is the attention seeker. The one that people notice first. He is loud and a nagger but I love him to death. I have a bond with the two of them. One that I never even imagined I would have.

It is instant and uncontrollable.

"Why are you always the one that wakes up at night,’’ I tell him as I stand up from the bed quietly and walk out of the room. Colin is in their room like he always is but I go to his room to make sure like I always do when Colm wakes up.

The door is ajar and I see the star wars night light through the space.

The moment they started walking, I knew they would do this. Having their own room suddenly isn’t such a good idea. Most nights they come out of the room and to ours whenever they wake up. I walk into the room slowly to make sure that he is asleep and just as I thought, he is.

"Why are you awake mister?’’ I ask him as we walk out of the room and to the kitchen. This is not the first time that Colm has woken up to disturb us but like most nights and Alanis is usually the one that ends up putting him back to sleep. Recently, I have been trying to do more, be better, have a closer relationship with them and that is why I have been making sure that I am the one that takes him back to his room. Alanis has been amazing through everything, I haven’t really been pulling my weight in taking care of them, it is not like he has been complaining but whenever I can, and I want to do more.

I know what he wants but he still rambles the words out to me, if he wasn’t my son, I probably won’t understand his words but I do.

He wants blood.

This has been a journey.

I didn’t know what to expect. No one did when it came to them. I knew that they would have vampire blood inside them. They are hybrids after all but the day I had to watch them drink blood for the first time will always be stuck in my brain. I didn’t want them to. I didn’t want to start the bloodthirst that I knew would come after but they are still babies and it hasn’t been so bad.

I go into the kitchen and switch on the light. His eyes are wide open, I don’t even know if I will be able to get him back to sleep now.

I place him on the kitchen counter gently and he stretches his hands out to me "No," he cries. Okay. I guess he is in his clingy mood tonight.

Colm is always in a mood. He reminds me of me when I was younger.

"Fine, I will carry you while I get it,’’ I tell him and he jumps up excitedly.

They are growing so fast.

I almost wish they would stop for a while so that I can catch my breath. I don’t want to blink and watch them grow. I want them to take their time. I want to savour this blessing that I have been given.

"Daddy,’’ I hear Colin before I even see him as he walks into the kitchen.

Okay, now this is a party.

Colm grabs me as I try to go over to my other son. He doesn’t want me to let him go. There are days when I would have to juggle both of them and it seems like tonight is one of those times.

"You have to let me pick up your brother.’’

He shakes his head "No,’’ he utters only a word and I know that if I don’t listen to him, he is going to wake the whole house up.

"Fine, I have two arms after all,’’ I watch Colin as he slowly walks over to us with his tiny legs. They are the most adorable legs I have ever seen. His eyes are half closed but he doesn’t hesitate to raise his hands up as I lift him off the ground with my other hand.

"Why are the two of you awake at the same time,’’ I groan as I put them on the counter. Colm grabs my shirt as I try to reach for the fridge.

He is so stubborn.

Just like his father.

My wolf reminds me, even though I already know that. I walk over to the fridge with him as I don’t get any objection from Colin who is just rubbing his eyes sleepily. I get the bottles out, the ones that are meant for them and Colm grabs it from me immediately. I walk back to the counter and give the other one to my precious son. He collects it with a faint smile on his face.

"Thank you,’’ he answers immediately.

Colm on the other hand is already devouring the liquid in the bottle. I smile at the two of them as I watch them drink the blood. This is a part of them that they got from Alanis, without him, I wouldn’t have them, so I love all parts of them.

They haven’t woken into their wolves yet and there is no rush. I want them to take their time.

’How happy are you for tomorrow?’’ I ask them both. They both look up at me intently as they drink.

"Very happy,’’ Colm answers slightly pulling the bottle out of his mouth.

Tomorrow is their birthday party and everyone will be there. The whole family. Both werewolves and vampires. There was a time when I couldn’t even imagine having vampires in the community but now, the next Alphas of the pack are vampires.

Right now, I am living a great life.

Chapter 625: Content

Alanis

I wake up and Beau is not next to me. I already know where he would be. There is no worry or wonder in my mind. Things have been so calm lately that I haven’t had an anxiety attack in a while.

My life is perfect.

I don’t mean to brag but I am in a place of contentment. I am so happy that most times, I have to check myself to make sure that this is real.

Having a husband, two kids. Having the rest of my family here in this compound. It is the perfect situation. One that I don’t ever want to let go of. The sun is blaring through the window. The morning birds are chirping loudly like they do in the morning.

Today is a special day.

The day that I almost died but ended up with two gifts.

The day that I fought so hard.

The day that I won at life.

The party we are having for the twins is small—well as small as a party can be in the community. Everyone and I mean everyone will be there. This is something that the whole pack will celebrate. Somehow, the love I feel for my babies is shared with the rest of the people here. Even the people that didn’t accept me at first.

Just watching the two of them grow up. Seeing the amazing journey has made them all soft for them.

They are a part of me and a part of their Alpha.

They are miracles.

I get up from the bed and walk over to the bathroom. This is the first morning in a while that I haven’t woken up to them in bed with me. I knew when Beau woke up to Colm. Most nights, if I tried to get up, he will tell me to go back to bed. Lately, he has been so involved in them that it has become heartwarming. After freshening up, I go out of the room dressed in a pair of shorts and Beau’s shirt. I go straight to the kid’s room and sure enough, he is there.

I smile when I notice what has happened.

Their beds are joined together. He actually dragged them last night from what I can see. Usually, they always end up sleeping on our bed when they wake up. Most nights, Colm is the one we have to worry about but it seems like he had a handful last night. His arms are wrapped around them, it is the most adorable thing I have ever seen.

Beau is like a giant next to them but he seems to be very conscious right now. Almost like he is making an effort not to crush them.

My heart jolts in my chest and I mean it literally, for a second, I feel the ache in my chest. Like I have to rest my back on the wall to stay on my feet. I have never felt this much love at once. Just watching this beautiful scene, looking at my whole life sprawled on this bed, is making me weak in the knees.

This is amazing but it is also overwhelming.

"I never pegged you as creepy,’’ I hear his voice muffled under the pillow.

He opens his eyes slowly and I smile as I take a step closer to the bed "What happened here?’’ I ask him, keeping my voice low.

He turns around "Your babies wouldn’t let me go last night,’’ he sits up on the bed and he explains.

I notice that he is shirtless and I can’t help but stare "Is this sexy for you?’’ he wiggles his eyes brows flirtingly.

Very.

"No, you have a little something,’’ I gesture to his mouth by pointing at mine "Here,’’ I add.

He reaches for his face and I watch him wipe at his face. I chuckle loudly and he rolls his eyes. Jumping off the bed and pushing me to the wall "You don’t want to start this game,’’ he teases me with a gleam in his eyes.

"What game would that be,’’ I tease back enjoying moments like this.

His hands snake around my waist and I feel the electricity from his touch. His hands are warm, just the way I like it. His eyes are dark and inviting. I would rip off his clothes off if our children weren’t in this room with us right now.

"Do it, rip my clothes off,’’ he mutters almost reading my mind.

Beau and I have a connection. I don’t even have to ask myself if I said it out loud. He knows what I am thinking just by looking at me. He can tell that my thoughts right now are not innocent. They are so far from innocent.

Seeing him, in bed with my babies is a major turn on that I didn’t think I would have. My man, in all his glory.

"You don’t want to encourage me right now,’’ I tell him because I will take him up on it if he tempts me.

"Our room is not so far away," he pushes into me and I feel him, hard and even more tempting.

I take a deep breath, a way to contain this hunger but it doesn’t work. I want him so badly right now.

"We have to get ready, for the party,’’ I remind him.

He scoffs "It’s barely dawn. We have time," he rolls his eyes playfully. I look over his shoulders and they are deeply asleep. I know their pattern, since they woke up last night, they won’t wake up again until they are hungry. "Did they eat last night?" I ask him.

He nods "to their heart’s content, I made sure of it,’’ he winks.

My heart jolts. There is no refusing him right now, especially since I want this as much as he does. My hands slide up to his face and he closes his eyes as I lean forward "we have to be quick,’’’ I tell him.

He doesn’t even wait for a response, all he does is pull me out of the room and I laugh as we go to ours.
