Chapter 656: The end part 1

Months later.

Alanis

"Wake up Beau,’’ I nudge him for the tenth time this morning. I have been awake for a couple of hours now and somehow, he has decided to be stubborn this morning.

"In a minute," he grumbles into the pillow. His face is covered with the duvet but I can just imagine the frown that he would be carrying on his face.

A lot has been going on. Today, we have to go back to my old house. I call it my old house because the community is my new family. I can never forget where I came from but I am loving who I am. There was a joint decision to wake Belis and Dru. We didn’t know how long they needed but we felt that it was time. A lot has happened. I didn’t want them to miss the whole family while they were asleep. They need to get to know the twins. They need to watch them grow.

I know father agreed to this because of me.

He could see that I wanted my whole family to bond with my kids and it might be a little selfish but I am sure they are ready.

"You said that thirty minutes ago.’’

He sighs.

I laugh as I walk out of the room. Beau stayed up late last night and I wish I didn’t have to wake him up but I do because I don’t want us to be late. I walk out of the room and I can hear the kids in their playroom. The television is loud and I recognize their favourite cartoon playing. I walk into the kitchen because I need to make breakfast for them.

Like I do every morning.

My routine is something I look forward to. Waking up every morning and taking care of my family, gives me a kind of joy that I didn’t even know I needed. I wouldn’t trade this for anything. This life I have created—the perfection of it all. It brings me joy that I don’t ever want to lose.

"Yo, you guys ready?’’ Darrien walks into the kitchen just as I am setting the table.

We are at this point in our relationship where he doesn’t even knock. He is so comfortable with my family that it makes me happy.

"Beau is still sleeping. I want to get the kids ready and then have breakfast with them.’’

He frowns "Do you guys ever actually keep to time. I have a kid too just so you know," he walks over to the fridge comfortably and grabs a bottle of blood. "Go and wake your man up. You know father doesn’t like it when we are late for stuff,’’ he gulps down the liquid but I nod and leave him in the kitchen.

I branch by the twins’ room and Colin looks up from the book he is reading. I don’t know how he can focus on the noise from Colm’s cartoon.

"Hey kiddos,’’ I walk over to him as he drops the book on his bed.

"Good morning papa,’’ he greets me with a slight smile on his face as I ruffle his hair playfully.

Colm runs over to me and I carry him off the ground as I start to slobber him with kisses. At home, they always show me that they will always be my babies but when we are in public, it is a different story. They wouldn’t even let me touch them.

"Did you guys sleep okay?’’ I ask both of them and they nod.

This is my ritual. I come to their room. I ask them about their night and then I take them to the kitchen "Breakfast is on the table, why don’t you go start without dad and I,’’ I tell them because I still need to wake Beau up. I know he will still be asleep when I get to the room.

He is just too stubborn.

I walk out of the room with the twins and they go in the direction of the kitchen. I know Darrien Is still there. So they will be fine.

Once I get to my room. I see Beau still plastered on the bed. The covers are around his waist and this time, I can see his face.

"Beau,’’ I call his name.

Silence.

I know he can hear me, his hearing is impeccable.

"The house is on fire," I say louder. I should be annoyed with him because I already told him about it but I can’t help but smile as he covers his face, in a way to block my voice out. He will take this stubbornness all the way and I will match it with mine.

I climb the bed and pull the covers off him "Our house is burning and you want to sleep through it. Aren’t you supposed to be the Alpha?’’ I smile as he squints his eyes closed. He doesn’t want to wake up but he needs to.

"I don’t smell any fire,’’ he mutters groggily.

"Wake up,’’ I climb on top of him. My hands wrap around his waist.

He groans loudly "Is there any way I can be absent for this?’’

I shake my head. He opens his eyes when he doesn’t hear me "You have to be there. You are my partner. My husband. This is an important moment for the family.’

"I don’t even like your brother and I am tired.’’ He sighs, sitting up on the bed with me on top of him. I place my legs in between his body as he grabs unto my waist.

"I like my brother and we haven’t seen him in six years."

"Just wake up."

He smiles. His eyes suddenly focus on me. For the first time since I have been trying to wake him up, I see him actually look at me. "Hi handsome,’’ he pulls me even closer.

The sleep is still in his eyes but there is this intensity in them that makes my skin crawl in a good way. I lean forward because I can’t resist him—not like I even want to. Slowly, he presses his lips to mine and suddenly the morning seems brighter than it did a second ago.

He makes everything brighter.

Chapter 657: The end cont.

Beau

I don’t really want to go to the Cranwell house but Lanis wants me there and I would do anything for him. I like his family because they brought him to me. No matter what, they will always be the reason why Lanis is who he is today and even though his father has come a long way from how he used to be, I know he still doesn’t like me.

I gave him grandchildren but it will not be easy to just get rid of that hate that he had for my kind. Things are different now. He is cordial with me and he loves the twins so much. That is the only reason why I am still able to welcome him to the community.

"You ready?’’ Lanis peers his head into the door but doesn’t enter.

I put on my jacket and nod slightly.

I know it is going to be a long day. This is the first wake up ceremony I have attended—never thought I would be saying that.

Belis wanted a break and I think it will be a good change for him.

I know that Lanis is the main reason why they are waking him up now. He misses his brother and I guess I can understand that. It has been six years after all. In vampire years, that is not such a long time but I can still understand. The kids are growing right in front of our eyes. They will reach an age where they will literally stop ageing. This is new for us but we will have to cross that bridge when we get there. The bridge when they will find their wolves.

I am going to be there for them all through it—I went through it and I want it to be smoothe sailing for them. I don’t want them to have any hurdles in their lives. I want them to know that they can trust me and Lanis. I want them to be able to talk to us about anything.

"Yeah,’’ I walk out of the room and he sighs loudly.

He is being a drama queen.

It is still so early.

I don’t know why he feels the need to be the first one to get to the house. Lanis is too punctual, it is one thing about him that I can’t help but nag about. I like to take my time. I like to do things at my own pace—with no pressure.

Lanis likes to pressure me.

I fucking love him and that is the only reason why he is able to get away with pressuring me "it is just noon. Why do we have to get there on time?’’ I ask him.

Deep down, he knows that they will not wake Belis and Dru up without him present. He knows that but he likes to be the one waiting for everyone.

"We are supposed to be there at noon. I have been waiting for you since ten in the morning." He scowls at me.

I run my hands through my hair "Give your man a break. I had a late-night,’’ I remind him. I didn’t sleep till 3 in the morning.

"I was there. I had a late-night too. Do I have to remind you that it was your fault?’ he raises a brow in accusation.

I look away from him but there is a smile on my face.

"Do I have to remind you that you had a good time too?’’ I take my turn in raising my brows. He chuckles.

"I beg to differ. I told you to go to bed. I told you that you will give me a difficult time in waking you up,’’ he accuses.

"Oh, I don’t think I remember you stopping me,’’ I move closer to him until he is pressed to the wall. His eyes open and there is a flash as he watches me.

"We have to go, don’t start this now,’’ he tells me, in a stutter.

I am enjoying this a little too much. I like the responses I get from him. I like that he is always a flustering mess with me. It has been six years and his responses to me are still the same as the first day I touched him. Nothing has changed—if anything has changed, it has only intensified.

"You are not stopping me now,’’ I smile teasingly.

He pushes into me slowly and I watch him as he closes his eyes. I know Lanis. He wants me just as much as I want him and he doesn’t want to stop me. He just wants to act like he is resisting so that he can push it all on me and blame me for us being late.

Just like he just did about last night.

"Tell me to stop, use your words and I will,’’ I smile wickedly, enjoying this a little too much. I would give anything to fuck him right here, right now.

He doesn’t talk as I lean into him and rest my lips on the crook of his neck. He lets out a soft moan as I taste his skin slowly.

His moan gets loudly as I suck on his neck, grinding into him.

"Stop me, come on."

He remains quiet as I slide my hand into his shirt. His body is cold, just as it usually is. All I need to do is feel him to know that he is mine.

Mine.

My wolf growls as I tilt my head to the side and press my lips to his. This kiss is with more force than it needs to be but the excitement is still there as he responds to me longingly. My hands grab his waist as I try to get him closer to me, his cries out as I deepen the kiss, sliding my tongue into his mouth.

"You fuckers need to stop wasting all this time,’’ Darrien’s voice comes from the kitchen as he shouts out to us.

This gets Lanis out of his trance and he pushes me away from him "Fuck,’’ he exclaims. He sounds so sexy.

I don’t want to go anywhere.

Chapter 658: The end cont.

Alanis

"Where are we going papa?’’ Colm asks me calmly.

They are in the back seat of the car, colin has a book in his face like he always does. Colm’s iPad is on his lap, but he is focused on me and the road. I turn around to face him and Colin looks up from his book.

"We are going to grandpas house."

He nods "Why?’’

I want to explain everything to them. I mean they are pretty smart for their age but I don’t want to at the same time. They have this innocence. The kind that I want to see on them for a long time. They will always be my babies. I will always walk around eggs shells around them.

"You are going to meet your uncle and aunt for the first time.’’

I have told them about Belis and Dru. They have never met them but it is something that they have wanted to for a while. I am a family man. I like to be surrounded by my family and I want my kids to be the same way.

It is unfortunate that they never met Rick—Beau’s dad but I want them to know everyone from my side. Missing out on Belis and Dru is not something that I wanted. Maybe that is why going back to my other home is all I have been able to think about since I woke up this morning.

"Are they awake now?’ Colin asks calmly.

He seems to actually understand what he is asking. Like he is genuinely smart enough to comprehend it. Colin is really smart. He already understands who he is. The whole dynamic of it all.

"Not yet but we are going over to meet them,’’ I tell him.

This gets a smile out of Beau as he focuses on the road. He knows how important this is to me and that is why he is here with me. Darrien and Jabi are coming on their own and we are going to meet the rest of the family there.

We get to the house in about thirty minutes and for a second, I reminisce about my life before Beau. Before the community, the pack, before my destiny. I remember school and how insignificant it is now. I remember Maddie and all the times I would fight with my family to be with her. I was impatient, and desperate to have what the other members of my family had. I brought her into our world even though she didn’t belong there and that is what caused her death.

I remember it all and I am glad that I followed the path that I did. I am glad that I made the choices that I did. I am glad that I did not choose differently. What if I had done something differently? made a decision that wouldn’t have led me to where I am today.

Once the car is parked, the kids open the door and rush out of the car on their own. I smile because this is not the first time that they have come here. I make sure they know where I come from. they know who they are, and that is part vampire. I don’t want them to lose sight of that part of them that is equally as important.

I watch them as they run to the front door and I see Elu as she grabs them both in her arms. a smile sprawls to my face as I watch her lead them into the house.

"They actually love it here,’’ Beau manages in admittance.

He doesn’t like this place. I know he is happy that they do but it is still a revelation that we would have to come here more often.

He doesn’t want that.

"Let’s get this weird show on the road,’’ he tells me as he switches off the ignition and gets down from the car. He walks over to my side of the car and opens the door for me.

I am nervous about this.

I don’t want a situation where Belis wouldn’t be ready and then we would have to go through the whole process again. I want us to actually be on the same page with this.

Beau stretches his hand out to me and I take it in mine with a smile on his face. we walk side by side until we get to the front door.

"You took your sweet time to get here,’’ Darrien bellows as he opens the door before I can.

"When did you get here?’’ I ask him turning back to the parking lot and sure enough, his car is there. We all walk into the house and I hear the murmurs of everyone.

My family.

My brothers and sisters.

My father and mother.

The people that lead me to this beautiful path that I am taking. I see them as I enter the living room and Cranwell smiles at me. he has come a long way from how he used to be.

My kids are his precious gems.

He treats them way better than he used to treat us when we were newborn vampires.

"Grandpa, look what I drew for you," Colm pushes a book to his face and I watch him as he collects it from him and examines the contents.

"This is the most beautiful drawing I have ever seen,’’ he exclaims with his eyes wide.

I know he is not bluffing because I have seen the drawing and Colm actually did an amazing job with it.

He lifts my son up and I watch him as he walks over to us "Beau, Alanis, welcome,’’ he walks over to us and I return the smile back.

"Grandpa likes it, papa,’’ Colm tells me excitedly.

I nod "Of course he does. It is amazing,’’ I assure him.

"Are we ready to do this? They are down in the basement,’’ Father tells me calmly. I can see the excitement on his face.

Belis is his first son.

The one he cherishes the most.

He must miss him.

"Yes, we are.’’

Chapter 659: The end cont.

Beau

This will be the first awakening ceremony that I will attend. Apparently, this is something that vampires do often. There might come a time in. my life with Lanis that he will want to take a break from everything and I will have to grant him that break.

Living forever might seem like such a great thing—and most times, it is but living means you have to face life forever. Life is hard.

Even when you are surrounded by good things.

There will be times when life will hit you so hard that you will just want it to end. There will be times when it will be so good that you would want it to last forever.

I have been living my life with Lanis with a lot of ups and downs. We have had fights; we have had people try to pull us apart. We have had losses and gains.

It has been an amazing balance and the pace that we are going is so perfect that forever doesn’t even feel like such a long time.

Belis had a good life, he still does. He has his family and they love him so much. his wife fucking went to sleep with him. she lost six years of her life for him. if that doesn’t scream LOVE then nothing else does.

We get down to the basement and I see the coffins. Well, it looks like a coffin but it is made of glass and transparent; I can see them. they look alive—but their eyes are closed.

Well, I guess this is what the sleep state is.

Werewolves can die.

We choose when we want to actually let go.

Will I ever want to let go of this life I have?

Will there be a time in my life when I would want to go to the afterlife?

When we are ready. When our wolves feel like we have actually lived. We will start to age. It is a whole process and it doesn’t take one day but then, we get old. We start to look human and then we die.

I don’t think about that time because it is going to be so far away from me. I am not satisfied. I love my life with Lanis. I love the family and community that we have built and I am not ready to let that go.

Even for the afterlife.

"This is weird,’’ I whisper into Lanis’s ear.

He chuckles quietly "Shhhh, you don’t want father to hear you,’’ he grabs my hand and pulls me closer to him. I rest my head on his shoulders. It is this uncomfortable position but just feeling the chill that comes with him makes it okay.

Everyone but the kids and Jabi is in the room. Eligio, Elu, Lanis’s mother, father, and Darrien. The kids are with Jabi, somehow, he has gotten so close to them. Jabi went through something when he gave birth and it changed him completely. Now he is a more compassionate person and he doesn’t just think about himself anymore.

I see the way Darrien looks at him, with so much pride and love. They are a pair that I always thought wouldn’t work but they turned out to be perfect together. somehow, they make each other stronger.

They make each other better people.

Darrien looks at me and winks with a smile.

Darrien is one of those people that I thought I would never get along with. He just seemed like too much of a strong personality and I have a strong personality too. It just looked like he was just going to get in my way. he was mean to Lanis a lot in the past. He gave my man a complex but somehow, they worked it through and a so close that I admire their sibling relationship.

"Let us begin,’’ Cranwell bellows loudly.

I would think that the echoing of his voice would wake them up but I guess it is not as easy as that.

I don’t even know what this is and I know that I shouldn’t even be here but Lanis likes to involve me in anything that he is involved in. I like to be involved because I always want to make sure that he is okay and it seems to me that he is.

"Belis might not want this but we all agree that he is ready. Right?" Cranwell asks, looking at everyone in the room.

I remain quiet because I don’t have an answer to his question. I don’t know if he is ready. I don’t know if he will snap, the same way he did the last time I actually saw him.

I don’t know what level of anger he will have.

There is a glass table in between the two coffins. There are bags of blood on them. I admire Lanis’s family because they don’t hurt humans. Werewolves try to protect the humans in this town from the vampires and the fact that they live here, without hurting anyone just makes me admire them even more.

"He would want to come back. it is time,’’ Lanis mutters loud enough for everyone to hear.

He seems to be so sure but I don’t know and I hope that this goes the way he wants it to go.

They all look at him with a lot of hesitation.

I squeeze his hand in mine tightly because I am the only one that he needs. I know that he will get what he wants because Lanis is smart. He doesn’t just jump to conclusions.

He actually thinks about things before he gets excited and he has thought about this thing with Belis and Dru.

He knows that they are ready.

"Alright, let us get into this,’’ Cranwell says, walking over to the glass boxes. He opens Belis’s own first and I get a clearer view of him. there is something different about him.

Something lighter and he hasn’t even woken up yet.

It feels good.

Chapter 660: The end cont.

Alanis

It happens fast.

Father wakes Belis up first.

I watch as it happens because I have missed him. the moment my father’s blood enters my brother’s mouth. I watch as the veins around his eyes brighten and he shoots his eyes open. It is quick as it usually is. He sits up on the coffin and the heaviness that I have been feeling since we came here suddenly evaporates. I watch as they give him blood. Blood that he hasn’t had in six years.

It is amazing that we are still alive even when we aren’t.

Time stopped for him but it didn’t for the rest of us.

We lived our lives, while he put a pause on his.

There is confusion in his eyes but father is vocal enough. He calms him down and explains what is happening. My eyes meet Belis and he stops at me for a second. I don’t know what expression he is carrying right now but I feel at peace. I feel happy because our family is actually getting to that place where it feels complete again.

That is all I want.

That is all I look forward to.

Once Belis is calm and understands where he is, father does the same thing to Dru. Dru is my sister. She is the most supportive partner I have ever met. When all this was happening. When Belis needed the break, she took it with him, and now she is awake with him.

"Welcome back Bel, Dru,’’ Father tells the two of them and even though I know there is a lot of time to have a conversation with Belis, I still want to say something.

"You have been missed,’’ I manage in the quiet of the basement.

They both look at me and the sincerity pours out of my eyes. I have missed them; my kids have missed them.

***********************

"He wants to see you now,’’ Eligio walks out of the room.

I am standing in the hallway. I guess I just want my turn to talk to him. I don’t know how he feels about being awake but I will like to know if it was a rushed decision and he is not okay with it.

"Thank you,’’ I walk into the room and he is seated on the bed. Drucilla is with Elu. She has always been close to her and I guess this is the time for them to catch up. they both haven’t seen the kids even though I know Colm is eager to.

"Hello there,’’ he smiles at me as I walk further into the room.

His room is exactly like it was the last time I was here with him. so much has changed but at the same time, it feels like nothing has changed. All those nights I would sneak out of the house when I was a newborn. All those nights that he would find me at some party. Those nights where I would have to beg him not to tell father.

We have spent years together.

We have lived as brothers and I have been an asshole for the majority of those times. I have changed completely and he really hasn’t been there to see my growth.

"How does it feel to be a parent?’’ he asks me with a smile on his face. I don’t even sense an inkling of resentment.

He genuinely seems happy for me.

"How does it feel to be back?’’ I go straight to the point.

I need to know how he feels.

I don’t want him to go back.

"Six years, huh.’’

I nod.

"It is such a short time in comparison to how long I have lived. Fuck I am so old.’

I laugh.

He laughs.

I still don’t know how he feels.

"Are you hiding the little ones?’’

I shake my head "I made sure to tell them about you. every single day for those six years.’’

He looks at me "Why?"

"Because you are their uncle because they needed to know about you. they want to meet you.’’

"Then let me meet them,’’ he says seriously and that is a good sign.

He wants to meet them.

He wants to be here.

"Now?’’ I ask.

He nods "Yes, I don’t mind.’’

I walk out of the room and go all the way to my room. Beau and Jabi are there with the kids. They all look up when I walk in. Beau watches me and I know he is trying to see if everything is okay.

I think everything is great but I don’t say anything.

"Papa,’’ Colin calls me as Colm runs over to me.

I take him in my arms and grab Colin as he walks over to me "Your uncle wants to see you. how excited are you to finally meet him?’’

"Very,’’ Colm shouts excitedly.

Beau nods as I walk out of the room and back to Belis’s room. He smiles before I even enter with them. his eyes are fixed on their figures. "Okay, they are tall,’’ he blurts out.

Colin hides his face in my legs.

He is always shy, so I am not even worried.

Belis stands up and walks over to us. Colm jumps out of my arms and I let him "Uncle Bel,’’ he says quietly. He is shy but compared to his brother, it’s very subtle.

"And you are..." he pauses.

"Colm,’’ he answers.

I smile.

"Oh, what a beautiful name Colm. You know I imagined how you would look and you are a beautiful boy,’’ he reaches for my boy and I watch him as he ruffles his hair playfully.

"Boys aren’t beautiful,’’ Colm argues.

Belis laughs "Oh anyone can be beautiful. You are as beautiful as your father. Both of you," he faces Colin and I watch as my other boy peeps at him shyly.

"Do you want to say hi to your uncle?" he asks.

Colin nods but still holds me tightly "Hi.’’

"His name is Colin,’’ Colm speaks up.

Belis smiles "Hi colin."

I watch as he stretches his hand out and I watch as my very shy baby reaches out for him and takes his hand.

I watch the loves of my life as they welcome Belis back and it feels right.

Everything is perfect.
