Ch. 86..90: The Werewolf's Vampire Mate Chapter 86-90
Chapter 86: Everything is not what it seems.
Beau.
The vampires that Eligio and Bells brought are chained in one of the empty houses in the community. They have been unconscious for quite a while and El explained that they are in a sleep state, apparently, they were hurt a lot. I watch them with so much anger within me. these are the people that attacked my family. These are the people that want us all dead.
They are all monsters.
"You should get some rest. We will deal with this and everything else in the morning. You have been through so much already," Lanis walks over to me but my eyes remain fixed on them.
I can’t sleep, I need to know anything that could help me in getting rid of Cassius. These people work for him, they would have something that can be useful. I will take anything right now. Jules will be coming tomorrow and I need to have my story straight. I don’t want him to think I don’t know what I am doing. Even if I am not a good leader, I have to at least act like one.
Everything that has happened has shot down my confidence level. I don’t know anything anymore. The one thing I know is that there is no fucking time to rest. How can I rest when people are dead?
"You can go ahead. I need them to wake up."
He shakes his head. I am being stubborn but I actually can’t sleep. My head is a hazy fog. Too many things are running through my mind. how can I sleep when Cassius could show up in the middle of the night? He could do the same things the wolves did to him. they killed his family while they were asleep. What if he does that? How will I protect everyone?
"I am not leaving you."
I knew he was going to say that. I am glad that I have him, I doubt I would have been able to handle all this without him. Fuck, Lanis is the only constant in my life. He is the only one that I can truly count on. Everyone else could waver, he is the only one I am a hundred per cent sure of.
I hear a groan from one of the vampires which makes me move closer to them. There is blood on his shirt, his jeans are stained with dirt. His hair is a rumpled mess. This is the one that Bells caught. I am so glad she did all this to him. now all he needs is death but after I get everything I can from them. He opens his eyes suddenly and I see the fear in them. He tries to get the chains off him but there is no way he will be successful. They are coated in the purest and finest silvers. There are already burns on their wrists just from touching upon their skin. The immense pain is evident on his face "Let me go," he cries.
This is the bastard that killed my people. Here he is, grovelling now that he is not in control anymore.
Eligio is outside with Darrien, who showed up like thirty minutes ago. He found Jabi. I was so worried about the kid but I am glad he is okay now.
I don’t want to lose anyone again. This thing with Cassius has to end. I can’t handle all this uncertainty and loss.
"Why did you come here today?’’ I ask him because I want to know what is running through his mind.
He is against my kind. He is working with Cassius, even though there is a contention. The agreement doesn’t mean shit to him and the others. There must be a reason.
"I had no choice. We all have no choice."
What does he mean by he had no choice? Everyone has a fucking choice. He chose to come into my home and kill my family. Now he is spitting bullshit about now having a fucking choice. I move closer to him because talking to him like he is human will not get me what I want. He is a monster; a fucking animal and he needs to be treated like one.
I grab him by the collar of his shirt, he doesn’t flinch. Maybe he is suddenly trying to act tough. I am going to kill him, no matter what he tells me tonight. I will not spare him his life. he didn’t spare the people he killed.
He doesn’t deserve mercy.
"Why did you come here and kill my family?’’ I ask him again, still holding him as tight as I can.
He darts his eyes away from me, his breath heavy. I can see the pain that he is trying to hide. The silver is doing the trick. He will burn so bad that by tomorrow he will be unrecognisable "You might as well kill me. I am already dead either way."
I let go of his collar with one of my hands still holding him with the other and raise my fist up, hitting him square in the jaw. He winces this time from the pain, his eyes closing. No words leave his lips, he doesn’t want to cooperate with me.
"What do you mean?’’ Lanis asks him.
I look at my mate and he is watching him with a very intense stare. The vampire opens his eyes and looks at him with this blank stare. He doesn’t answer his question. Lanis communicates with me through a link.
I need to talk to you outside.
He walks out of the room and I follow him up the stairs till we are away from them.
’’What is it?’’
He sighs and I watch him run his hands through his hair ’’They aren’t going to tell you anything. I read their mind.’’
I raise a brow ’’And?’’
’’They are not completely bad. At least the one that is awake. Cassius has his link hostage. He has a lot of their links hostage. That is why they are doing this, even though there is a contention.’’
His words have me fucking enraged. I don’t know what to think now. This man—Cassius is not only hurting the wolves. He has created an army with a group of vampires against their wills. How is that even fair?
Can I fault them for doing this now?
How can I blame them for killing all the people they have killed when I know I would do the same if that happened to Alanis?
’’Look baby, this thing is not that black and white. The only person that is accountable for all that is happening is Cassius. He is the one that needs to be killed.’’ Alanis tells me.
He is right.
But how do you kill someone that is so hard to find?
’’I don’t know what to do anymore. I am fucking exhausted.’’ This is me breaking down. Alanis has seen me through my worst. I have nothing to be ashamed of. He is the only one that has seen me through everything.
’’I understand. I am here with you.’’ He reaches for me and I stay in his arms. The tears that I have been fighting off, start to fall out of my control. I cry in his arms for god knows how long. I can’t even hold myself together.
After a while, he pulls back from me and wipes the tears from my face. I grab his hand in mine. ’’What do I do now?’’ I need his guidance. I can’t do this on my own.
’’It is late, I don’t think there is anything we can do right now, you said you called someone, your uncle. Let us wait till the morning when he comes.’’
I nod.
’’What about them?’’ I point towards the door.
’’When you have calmed down, we will talk to them again. Maybe then we can get some information from them. You just need a breather. Can you get a breather?’’
He is asking me?
’’What if Cassius comes back?’’ I ask him terrified.
’’I will stand guard, Eligio and Darrien will be with me. All night if we have to.’’ He has thought about this.
’’I can’t ask you too—’’ he cuts me off ’’You didn’t ask me. I want to do this. vampires don’t need sleep. You get all the sleep you can. You need to be strong for everything that is to come.’’
How did I get so lucky?
He leads me to my room and wraps the covers around me. I watch him as he sits down on the edge of my bed. His eyes are heavy with worry. I don’t like doing this to him, I don’t like everything that is happening?
He caresses my hair in an attempt to help me fall asleep ’’This is the part where you close your eyes.’’
I chuckle for the first time today; fuck this is the first time I have even felt remotely relaxed. ’’Can you lie down next to me?’’
He nods and shifts the duvet until he is under the covers, his arms engulf me completely and I feel even more relaxed. His hand continues playing with my hair.
’’I love you.’’ He whispers into my ear.
Slowly my eyes close and I drift off with only thoughts of him. completely forgetting everything else.
Chapter 87: My everything
Beau.
I open my eyes to the sounds of birds chirping outside my window. Slowly I stretch out the sleep out of my eyes and look around the room. Alanis is not here, he was beside me when I closed my eyes. The sky is still dark which makes me check the clock by my bedside table.
It is 5 o’clock in the morning.
I stand up from the bed in search of Lanis. He said he was going to stand guard. He and his brothers. Our enemies are the vampires but they are also my saviours. This whole ordeal has made me appreciate what I don’t understand. I was so closed-minded before Alanis became my mate. Now I see things clearly. The vampires are not the bad guys. People in general are bad. You can’t judge everyone based on some people.
I don’t judge the vampires anymore.
I have no right to.
The door opens before I can walk out of it and Lanis manages a smile when he sees me. He looks a lot paler than usual. I don’t even know if he has eaten. ’’Hi handsome,’’ he wraps his arms around my waist and I welcome him wholeheartedly.
’’Did you sleep well?’’ he asks still in my arms.
I nod immediately because I actually did. Maybe it is the fact that I knew I could count on him. I knew he would protect me so I had nothing to worry about for the whole night. I am grateful for him giving me that opportunity but now I have to do the same. I need to take care of him.
’’Have you eaten?’’
He pulls away from me still smiling brightly. I don’t really think I have anything to smile about. I am at the point where I am defeated. I don’t know what to do, I don’t believe in myself anymore. I know for a fact that I cant handle this on my own.
Everyone seems to believe in me when I don’t even believe in myself.
’’Not yet. El went over to get blood,’’ he explains.
I don’t want a situation where he will get weak all because he hasn’t had blood. These are the things I need to remember. What use am I, if I can’t even take care of him?
’’Don’t worry about me right now. I made breakfast for you,’’ he winks but I am not happy. Here he is, taking care of me and I can’t even do the same.
’’You haven’t eaten,’’ I interject.
He nods ’’I will.’’
I shake my head ’’I can’t eat if you haven’t. Who is going to take care of you? All you seem to be doing is taking care of me.’’
He smiles ’’You are a part of me. I have to take care of you.’’
I release an exasperated sigh ’’I want to worry about you. Will you let me?’’ I plead desperately.
’’You know, you need me right now more than I need you. You were kidnapped and tortured. I have been in the comfort of my bed all this while. I can handle a little bit of negligence from you and myself right now. YOU are my priority for now.’’
I don’t know how to feel about this. having someone that wants to take care of me. I never had that. I never had someone that would put ME before themselves. I really don’t know how to feel about it.
He walks me into the kitchen and there is a feast right in front of me. a lot of meat—all cooked through. I need to go hunting but how do I with everything that has been happening. there are sunny side up eggs on a plate, sausages, pancakes. A fruit salad in a big bowl. When I say this is a feast, I am not even exaggerating.
’’When did you make all this?’’ I ask him shocked.
He smiles proudly ’’I started an hour ago. Darrien and Olin are on guard right now. He has been nagging all night about leaving Jabi alone.’’
’’Why isn’t Jabi back home?’’
I want to know because I am worried about the kid. I know this is not the safest place for him but at least he will be here, where I can see him.
’’You know Darrien won’t let him stay here.’’
I nod.
I can understand.
I have known since the day Darrien came over to help Moe. The way he looked at Jabi was obvious to me. there was this intense look that only someone that had a mate could understand. I understood immediately even though he didn’t at that point.
I send Rex a mind link to come and eat and he takes a couple of minutes to walk into the kitchen. He is dressed in a pair of grey shorts and a sleeveless shirt. His red hair is extra curly today, his glasses are pressed to his face with a little misty cloud on them.
’’Good morning,’’ he says as he sits down next to me.
I ruffle his hair because I have missed him a lot and almost losing him yesterday was a wake-up call. There is no time for dwelling on what happened. I need to set a meeting with the people that are still alive and strong enough. We need to do a mass burial for the ones that are gone. Right now, there is no time to even mourn them.
There is no time because the moment we relax, we end up losing more people. I have a plan. A plan that involves Jules. He is the only one that can help in taking down Cassius.
At least right now I think he could help. I need to wait for him to come first and then we go from there. He should be here in a couple of hours but I need to prep everything first.
The door opens and Bell’s and Justin walk into the kitchen. I have never seen Bells this tired in all my life. there are dark circles around her eyes. Her hair is up in a messy bun and she has on the same shorts and sports bra from yesterday and her feet are bare.
Justin looks the most rested. Dressed in a pair of black shorts and a sleeveless white shirt and Adidas sneakers. His hair is brushed neatly against his head. I guess he didn’t have to deal with everything yesterday. I am glad he was not here because I know for a fact that he would’ve fought. He is not the strongest but there is a bravery in him, that most people don’t have. He is not the kind to sit back and watch everyone.
’’Baby,’’ I call her by what I always call her and she walks over to me and wraps her arms around my neck. She sits down on my leg as she grabs a piece of sausage from my plate.
Alanis is watching us but there is no jealousy in his eyes. I know he gets a little uncomfortable with how close we are but he trusts me. the only kind of love I have for Bells is platonic and nothing more. She is like a sister to me. I love her to death.
’’When will Jules be here?’’ she asks.
I shrug as I take a bite of the steak in my plate ’’He said he would be here in the morning. We just have to wait.’
She nods still eating off my plate. I add more food to it because I need her to eat up. We need all the energy we can get. There is no waiting around for Cassius anymore.
’’Has anyone seen or heard from Fallon?’’ I ask.
I can’t forget about him because he is still a threat to me. No matter what happens with Cassius. Fallon will always be at the back of my mind. the moment I find him, I will kill him.
I swear to God I can’t let him walk around and act like he isn’t the start of the shattered life I am living.
’’He is nowhere to be seen. That motherfucker disappeared like a fucking coward that he is.’’
I am not the only one that hates Fallon. I still don’t understand how he became the Alpha. I will find out in the meeting how they all allowed the person that killed my father to call the fucking shots?
Too much is happening in such a short amount of time, that it is all overwhelming. I need to take a breather and gather all my thoughts. Alanis is next to me, seated and watching us as we eat. This man is everything to me, the fact that he did all this in the crack of dawn even though he wasn’t going to eat is everything.
How do I ever thank him enough?
He reaches for my hand under the table and squeezes it assuring. I let out a soft breath as he shares a mind link with me.
You got this babe.
I believe him completely.
Chapter 88: Maybe this could work.
Beau.
’’I know everyone is scared. I am scared too.’’
There is nothing wrong with admitting fear. We are all people before leaders. Even though everyone is supposed to look up to me. I am supposed to be the Alpha, the leader of this pack but that doesn’t mean I am invincible. I have been broken down, bruised. I have given up so many times. I don’t want anyone to think I am unstoppable.
’’I don’t know what happened while I was away. Hell, I don’t even understand what went wrong but I don’t want to relive those moments. I am not here to put the blame on anyone. Yes, we all made mistakes. We trusted the wrong people but there is no more of that. Fallon is an enemy and anyone that accepts him is my enemy too.’’
I am making my point known. I won’t have anyone thinking that they can just do whatever the fuck they want to do. there is no debating it. No room for forgiving him. He murdered my father and he will pay for it.
The living room is full, everyone is here including the vampires. I am not leaving anyone out of this meeting. Even the omegas. The time of exclusion is over. We are in this together and there is no exception.
’’Fallon killed Rick,’’ Olin speaks up. ’’The only Alpha we know is Beau. Anyone that is against that should speak up now.’’
Olin is one of the semi-trusted ones. He was my fathers’ best friend. At least that makes me know that I can rely on him in these times. There are murmurs around but no one actually speaks up. Alanis is next to me. his presence is comforting to me and giving me all the strength, I need to be brave. At least I need to act brave, maybe from there, I will really become brave.
There are murmurs and mumbling around but no one actually says anything.
’’I am going to find Cassius and I will kill him.’’ I need them to know that this time I won’t be waiting for him to come back here again. This has gone on for too fucking long. I can’t take it anymore.
’’How do you intend to do that?’’ one of the older wolves in the pack—Brian asks with worry in his eyes. Frankly, everyone looks worried. A lot of people lost their loved ones yesterday, so I appreciate them for even being here in this meeting. It takes strength to stand tall after something so terrible.
’’I know where he lives now. He is not as smart as he thinks he is. I will not wait for him anymore. I will find him.’’ I haven’t answered the question but that is all I have right now. I need Jules to come. I need someone as experienced as him to help me. I cannot do this on my own.
The meeting ends with me giving orders. There is a list of people that will stand guard. We cannot leave the community unguarded and we can’t fully depend on Alanis and his family, even though they have agreed to stay. Eligio is going over to pick up Elu. He wants her with him. I totally get how he is feeling. I can’t even be without Lanis in a time like this.
He is the only one that is giving me strength.
I walk back to my room and put on a change of clothes. Lanis sits on the bed as he watches me. I see the look in his eyes. He is scared, worried that I will break down again. I don’t blame him; he is the strong one. I am just weak, pretending I have my shit together. Jules sent a message, he is thirty minutes away.
’’We need to go back and talk to those vampires. The other one is awake now.’’ He informs me. it is not like I have forgotten about them but I don’t know what to do with them. The revelation that they did everything to survive hits me to the core. I cannot fault them; I don’t have the power in me to fault them.
’’What can I say to them? The only thing I wanted was vengeance but now I don’t have the heart to hurt them.’’
He nods as I put on a pair of clean shorts. I run my hands through my hair as he walks over to me ’’Look, I am not saying we should just go about and forgive them but we could get them on our side. They have as much to lose as we do. Cassius will be nothing without his army. So why not get to the core of that and scatter it?’’
All I know about Cassius is the fact that he has a group of vampires on his side. They will do anything he wants them to and now we know that the majority of them are doing this because he has somehow captured all their links. He is using their one weakness against them. If they agree to work with us, then they become double agents and they could help us.
That makes sense but how can we be sure that we can trust them?
’’Just talk to them. They are not as evil as you think they are. Be better than them. That will show them that we were never the enemy.’’
I agree to go to the basement where we kept them and Lanis insisted on bringing them food. I know what it is like to be kept hostage. I suffered for two weeks and no one treated me with an ounce of kindness. Alanis grabs two bags of blood as we get to the basement. They both look up as we enter. The burns on their skins are worse than last night. They look a lot worse than when I left them.
’’We are not the ones you should be doing this to.’’ The other one that was unconscious speaks up immediately. There are tears in his eyes, red circles around but all the bruises from last night have vanished from their super speed healing.
’’What is Cassius’s plan?’’
He wails in pain ’’We don’t know what Cassius is planning. We are just puppets that he controls.’’ I already know this.
I need something useful.
’’Why are you helping him?’’
Lanis read the other one’s mind yesterday. Now he is just quiet, almost like he has given up. They both look like they have no soul left in them. No will to fight anymore. I want them to tell me what I already know, show me that they are redeemable.
’’He has everyone at the tip of his fingers. We can’t fight him when we have everything to lose.’’ The one from last night finally speaks up. I look at him—I mean really look at him for the first time. This is not the face of a monster. This is the face of desperation. Now I see things clearly. He is not evil; he is just scared. I reach for the chains, the silver ones and slowly I rip them off him and then I do the same to the other one. I am not like Cassius. I will never be like him. The reason why I will win this is that I am good.
I will always be good.
He looks at the chains as they fall to the ground. There is shock mixed with confusion on his face as he falls to his knees. He rubs the bruises on his wrists. I reach for both of the blood bags from Lanis and stretch my hand out to give it to them. The devour it immediately and I watch as the veins around their eyes break out in dark lines around them. Their eyes never wavering away from me. I am sure they are still sceptical, unsure if they can actually trust me. I can’t trust them; I will never fully believe that they will be on my side but at least I will show them that we don’t have to be enemies. I will try to help them get back what they have lost.
After they are done, I go down on my knee facing both of them ’’I need your help and it looks like you need me too.’’
It is easier said than done. If I am correct, Cassius is keeping their links hostage. He is using that leverage to make them do what he wants. That means there will always be that fear that if they betrayed him, they would end up losing their loved ones.
There will always be a fear of loss. I fear losing Alanis every single day. I worry that something will go wrong.
’’He is very smart. He will know instantly.’’ One of them informs me.
They don’t have to tell me. I already know ’’I know, but he will never believe that you would betray him. I know what it is like to have a link. He is my link,’’ I point to Alanis and they both look at him with obvious confusion. ’’But I will never let that make me do the things that Cassius is making you do. You have to be able to sleep at night after everything is over.’’
Their eyes dart around but no one says anything ’’What are your names?’’ I ask.
The one from last night speaks up first ’’Bade.’’ I nod as the other one answers ’’Brone.’’
I smile, at this point. They are free and well-fed, they can try for an escape but deep down, I know they wouldn’t. Deep down I know I can gain their trust.
Maybe this could work.
Chapter 89: Untethered
Beau.
’’Jules Is here,’’ Bells walks into the basement and interrupts my discussion with the vampires. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest just from her words. I didn’t know how badly I have been waiting for him to show up. With the way things have been going, I kinda expected something bad to happen.
Maybe some reason why he would be unable to make it.
Jules is my last resort. Basically, like the only hope I have. I don’t know what I would do if he is of no help. I know it is a long shot but he is the one person that I truly believe can help me. the only other person that would have been able to handle this is my father and now he is dead.
’’We will continue this discussion,’’ I tell them which just gets a nod from them.
I grab Alanis and we walk out of the room with Bell’s standing guard. I might think it is safe to leave them unchained but I don’t trust them, so I can’t leave them unguarded.
’’This Jules, what is he going to do?’’ Lanis asks me.
I shrug because I actually don’t have a clue. We walk to the house because that is where Bells said he is. Once through the front door, I hear his voice and it is like a flashback moment. I have only seen this man twice in all my life and he has created such an impact in a short time. Father loved him as though he was a brother. I can’t imagine how he will be taking his loss. The moment he notices me, he stands up from the couch and walks over to me. Jules is not a very affectionate person, so this hug surprises me but I don’t fight it as I take him in my arms.
’’I am so sorry about this,’’ he expresses sadly.
’’It’s been a while. I am sorry I didn’t call you to inform you.’’
’’You don’t have to explain. I can’t imagine what you are going through. How strong you are to be doing this on your own. I heard about Fallon. I knew I never liked that bastard.’’
He pulls back from me and I manage a smile. ’’I am not alone, I have so many people by my side,’’ I use this opportunity to introduce him to Lanis. I don’t know how he would feel about the fact that he is a vampire. There was never any talk of vampires whenever he was around. I guess we will find out.
’’This is my mate... I know he is a guy and all but he has been there for me through everything.’’
Lanis comes closer until he is beside me. I can tell he is nervous. Introductions are never easy. There is this line with two sides. Will he be accepted or not. I really hope Jules doesn’t have a problem with this.
’’Wow, you are the first same-sex mate I have ever met. It is an honour,’’ he stretches his hand out and I remember the first time I met him. he did the same thing with me, that same smile plastered on his face.
Looking at him now, he hasn’t really changed. Still freakishly huge, with the same man bun and brown eyes. There are some newly found wrinkles on his face from ageing. Lanis takes his hand in his.
’’Nice to meet you.’’
Jules grins cheekily and a part of me relaxes. He doesn’t seem to be against this. that is a good start.
’’So before we get into this further I can sense that you haven’t done the ritual... why is that?’’
’’The mating ritual?’’
He nods immediately. I notice someone behind seated on the couch. I don’t recognise this person. I guess Jules brought someone with him. I will get to that later.
’’Yes... why are you not linked to him?’’
’’There hasn’t been any time and we missed the first full moon after we found out and then my father died, I got kidnapped,’’ he raises his brow at my revelation, I continue ’’It’s a long story.’’
He sighs ’’You know, that should have been your priority.’’
’’Why?’’
He leads me to the living room and we all take our seats. I see the guy clearly. He is a very handsome man... but very quiet.
’’Do you know dangerous it is to be untethered from your mate? You could be so much stronger. Why would you hold off on that?’’
I realise that he hasn’t mentioned the fact that Lanis is a vampire. Could it be that he hasn’t figured it out?
’’This is different from a normal mating ritual. It is more complicated.’’
’’Because he is a vampire?’’
Okay, scratch that. he knows that he is a vampire. He is a lot more accepting than I thought he would be. My father didn’t even take things as lightly as he is right now.
’’Yes.’’
’’There is a full moon in three days. I want you to complete the ritual then.’’ He announces.
Okay, this is all happening so fast. I can’t think about this with all that is happening. it seems selfish of me to be thinking about my mating when there is so much problem. So much is happening and I need to figure all that out first. I look to Lanis and he has the same expression on his face—panic mixed with fear.
We are not ready for this.
’’That is not why I called to see you.’’
He nods ’’I know why you called to see me. The only way you will be strong enough to defeat Cassius Blade is when you complete the ritual.’’
I should be excited about this. I mean, I have been hoping to complete the ritual for a while now but in three days. I don’t even know what to do. I don’t know what we need. How this is going to happen between two different breeds.
’’There is nothing to it, you need to do this. stop prolonging this because of fear.’’
I am not scared.
’’He could show up... Cassius. There are still bodies that are not even cold yet. I can’t be focused on myself when we haven’t buried them.’’
He nods. ’’Do the burial ceremony tonight. There is no time to be wasting son. You need to prepare for this. Head on.’’
********************
’’Is he serious?’’ Lanis asks.
I nod. ’’He never jokes. We have to do this.’’
We are in my room right now, getting ready for the burial ceremony. Everything is happening too fast. Like one minute I was being rescued and the next I am forming a bond with the love of my life.
’’The Elis still need to see you. They haven’t approved this union.’’
I furrow my brows ’’What do you mean they haven’t approved of us. I thought they just wanted to have a formal meeting.’’
He sighs and then runs his hands through his hair ’’I didn’t tell you. Fuck there was no time to mention it but the meeting father had with them didn’t go too well. They said they needed more time to fully research on it. That it might just be a fluke.’’
’’Our link could be a fluke?’’
He nods ’’We do this however way you want. I won’t go against you. Do you want us to do this without their approval?’’
I don’t know what I want.
I want all this to end. I don’t want to have to be the one to make all the decisions. Lanis grabs both of my hands in his. This is affecting him as much as it is me but here, I am being the one that needs comforting again. Can I just fucking catch a break?
’’Look, I think your uncle has a point. What if you could be stronger? The day you got so pissed and attacked Fallon, I saw a part of you that I have never seen. You were amazing. If you could channel that strength and use it in defeating Cassius. We will be rid of him.’’
I nod ’’What are you saying.’’
He smiles ’’I live for you and you alone. Are you scared to do this because you think something will go wrong?’’
He read my mind without even having to.
’’This thing is between us two. It is not just you. We got this.’’
’’Are you saying you want to do this?’’ I have to know. I don’t want to do this when he is not okay with it.
He lives for me—well I live for him and him alone.
’’I want to be able to sleep at night next to you. As long as Cassius is alive, that won’t happen.’’
Cassius.
The cause of all our problems. The reason why I have been broken and bruised. The man that is responsible for all the deaths.
He has to fucking pay.
I will make sure I have his blood in my hands.
If it is the last thing I do.
Chapter 90: Arrangements.
Alanis.
Things are happening too fast.
One minute I was getting Beau out of the prison Cassius put him and now we have to perform the mating ritual. I don’t know how it works with his kind. I have no clue.
I should be terrified but I am looking forward to it more than anything in this world.
’’This is a tricky situation. You need to talk to father about it,’’ El tells me with a serious expression.
I nod because he is right. I can’t go into this without actually getting him and mother on my side. The fact that the Eli’s are not in agreement with us could create a problem and I have already told Beau that I am all for it. We are supposed to do the burial ceremony tonight. Everything is being rushed. I can understand why. There is chaos everywhere and somehow Jules is the only one that has all his thoughts together.
’’How do you think he is going to take it?’’
El shrugs ’’When I went to get Elu, he didn’t seem too pleased. He doesn’t like that we are all here, in dangerous territory.’’
Eligio and Darrien don’t need to be here. Belis isn’t involved in my battles. He hasn’t really done much for me. he is the oldest of all of us and I have given him the respect of not involving him in everything. besides, he lives a busy life. Belis is a doctor who somehow floods his life with his job. Saving lives is his own way of giving back to the world. Maybe he feels like he needs to redeem himself, it is working for him.
’’What do I tell him?’’
He sighs ’’I don’t know how you could possibly ease him to everything that has happened but I think you just rip the Band-Aid off immediately.’’
I nod, grateful for all his help. I haven’t said it yet but El and Darrien have been amazing through all that has been happening and I am thankful for them. So completely grateful.
’’I should go home.’’
He nods his head slightly. I look around the room Beau gave him and his link and I am glad they could find space for them. Darrien left to go and bring Jabi back, something about leaving the kid alone hasn’t been sitting right with him. it is weird to see my brother so smitten by someone. I mean a couple of months ago; he was always bursting my balls off for any little thing I did. Now he wants to help and he has someone he loves.
I am really happy for him because I know how it feels. To love and to be loved in return. That feeling of knowing you have someone on your side for the rest of eternity. That unconditional love that knows no judgement. It is not understood unless it is felt.
’’You should get some rest. Last night was hectic.’’ I tell him.
He smiles ’’Dude sleep is for the weak,’’ he winks. I chuckle because he is just trying to make me feel better. Elu walks out of the bathroom and I smile warmly at her as she walks over to us.
’’You good?’’
She nods ’’Yeah, who would’ve thought we would all be in wolf territory?’’ she exclaims bemused.
’’Crazy right?’’
El pulls her closer to him and I watch them embrace. Knowing exactly how they feel. I want to be in his arms right now. I just left him and I already miss him. I need to break it to him that I will be going home.
I walk out of the room and head to the direction of the infirmary, knowing that is where he would be. once outside the house I see Rex with the guy that came with Jules. They seem to be deep in conversation as I walk over to them.
’’Hey,’’ Rex mutters red with embarrassment.
I raise a brow in confusion. He looks guilty like he has been caught doing something wrong ’’I didn’t catch your name early,’’ I face the guy with him.
He smiles warmly ’’I am blue. Jules’s son.’’ He tells me immediately.
Come to think of it, he looks so much like his father. They have the same build of over six feet. His eyes are a bright blue, in contrast with his hair which is jet black and so long over his shoulders. The smile on his face shows a dimple just above his brows. Rex looks like a baby next to him as he is just over five feet tall.
’’Nice to meet you. I am sure you already know who I am.’’
He nods ’’You’re the mate.’’
I laugh because being known as a mate is not really something to be proud of ’’Oh, don’t forget to put Vampire in front of it.’’
This gets a laugh from him and I notice the perfect dentation on him. Rex is quiet through our conversation and suddenly it feels like I am intruding. ’’Nice to meet you.’’
’’Same here.’’
I walk away from then until I get into the building in search of my man. Beau is in one of the rooms talking to one of the injured. He looks up and smiles when he sees me. the kind of smile that melts my heart and turn it into a gobbly mess.
’’This is Alanis. The one I was telling you about.’’
The man on the sick bed looks up at me. there is bandage wrapped around his head but other than that he looks okay. He is one of the people that was attacked by the vampires yesterday. He should be angry with my kind. I wouldn’t blame him if he hated me.
’’You know, Beau can’t seem to stop gushing about you.’’ He laughs as I walk closer to them.
’’I didn’t gush,’’ Beau argues.
The man on the bed chuckle and I must admit Beau is a cutey pie. ’’Are you okay?’’ he asks me obviously noticing my tension.
I nod ’’I need to talk to you.’’
We walk out of the room together until we are in the hallway of their hospital. He grabs my arm softly and leads me to a corner where we can get some privacy ’’Did something happen?’’
I don’t blame him for worrying. Ever since we met, bad things just kept happening. almost like we can’t seem to catch a fucking break. I am at the point where I expect the unexpected.
’’I know today is a busy day with the burial ceremony and all but I need to go home to see my father.’’ He nods, I continue ’’ I need to tell him that we are doing this. don’t want him blindsided.’’
’’When will you be back?’’
’’Today. Hopefully, he is okay with everything. I can’t have him against us at this point. We need him on our side.’’
’’Okay, how are you getting home?’’
He shrugs ’’It will be easier to run home. Using a car at this point will just be a burden.’’
’’Can I walk you to the gates?’’
We walk hand in hand to the gates that are still covered in the blood of the lost ones. ’’Someone should get these cleaned up,’’ I tell him because they will just be a reminder. He needs to focus on getting order to the pack. A weak is pack is a good as no pack.
’’Yeah, I will get to it. Let me know what your dad says. Come back home please.’’
I didn’t want to leave him. honest to God I promised I wasn’t going to leave him again until Cassius was dead but my brothers are here. They will protect him because he is mine. No one wants to have to go through another rescue mission.
The only mission we have to do right now is to KILL CASSIUS.
Home is where my heart is. My heart is with Beau, so I guess his home is mine ’’I love you,’’ I press my lips to his for a soft kiss. He deepens the kiss and grabs my waist, pulling me closer. The kiss lasts for about a minute before I pull away from him slowly. He rests his forehead against mine.
’’Call me if anything happens,’’
I nod again.
Beau walks away from me and I walk in the opposite direction. Running him home is fast and once I get to the front doors, I see Belis in the living room. He looks up from his computer obviously surprised to see me here. Guess he didn’t go to work today.
’’You’re home.’’
I don’t correct him that this isn’t really my home anymore. There is no need. I just need to talk to my father.
He stands up from the couch and places the laptop on the table ’’How is your link?’’
I don’t really think he cares but at least he is asking ’’He is okay. At least we got him out alive.’’
He furrows his brows totally unaware of the situation ’’Where is father?’’ I ask him, having no energy to start explaining things to him.
’’His study.’’
I leave him and walk up the stairs until I get to his study. He looks up at me and waves me into the room.
Here goes.
