Chapter 66
Could I have upsetted her in some way, or maybe is it that she doesn’t like the car’ Liam questioned himself.
Ciara sniffed and tried to hold back her tears.
” I do, I love it a lot. Why the heck would I be sad or angry when there’s a range rover right in front of me. We are talking about my favorite car here. ”
She then rushed to give him a tight hug, before thanking him for that wonderful gift. The car she had been saving for and had been in her vision board for quite some time now.
” no need to thank me. If we don’t get going now we both will be late for work. ”
That was when Ciara noticed that they’ve waisted a lot of time in the garage and now needed to go to the company as soon as possible. She uncovered the car but still couldn’t hold herself from admiring her brand new car. She walked around it a couple of times before opening the driver’s seat and got in. But instead of starting the car, she was touching and feeling everything in the interior of the car. And Liam on the other side was amused by this as he laughed at her.
” hey are you going to invite me in or what?.”
” owh Right!! Come in we will be late for work. ”
She said it, as if Liam hadn’t told her that just a moment ago. Seeing that Ciara wasn’t about to let him drive her new car, Liam got in the front passenger seat and closed the door.
Ciara then started the car and headed to the business district straight to Liam’s building and dropped him off. Immediately after he exited her car, Ciara noticed that his aura had now changed. Just a moment ago he was a cheerful, loving family man who loves to fool around at times. But now he had changed to a completely different person, he was now that aloof unapproachable CEO that everyone feared. Even when he walked, he had that superiority aura around him.
She watched him walk in to the building before driving straight to her workplace, but because she was running late, Ciara did not have the time to park in the underground parking dedicated for the staff as well as the president. Instead she parked her new car in the visitor’s parking space in front of the building.
At this time as everyone was entering the building they were all looking at the woman driving that expensive car, some guessed that she might be the president’s wife but some decided to wait and see who she was.
The door of the range rover opened and one foot touched the ground, the shoes she was wearing shocked everyone at the foya, they were expecting to see a rich woman in a pair of long high heels and a business attire but instead of that the woman who came out of that car was actually wearing sneakers and sweat pants. Those were the joys of being a writer, what she wears didn’t really matter, but what mattered the most was the content she created.
” Arg it’s that little third Ciara, I thought it was someone more important. ”
” wait how could she afford to buy such a, or maybe she borrowed it from someone. ”
” how would I know, that woman is capable of doing anything. This car probably belongs to one of her sugar daddies. ”
” guys don’t be like that, what if she bought this car herself, I heard that her career has been doing very well lately. ”
” even so there’s never smoke where there’s no fire. One way or the other she is involved with Mr Jones. ”
The coworkers gossiped among themselves, although some were quiet, but those who envied Ciara were the ones who spoke the most.
They soon settled down in their stations while waiting to be called in for their annual briefing. Soon the door opened and Ciara walked in and headed to her station as well.
” The nerve of this woman, some people are just too thick skinned that would really show up to work after all the trouble she had caused through social media.”
” Talk about a third party mistress, the mayor’s daughter should have taught her a lesson. ”
Now that she was closer some of the women in her department grew more jealous of her, although she was dressed simply in sweat pants and sneakers but all those were from famous expensive brands. Now because of that, they were even bold to say all those nasty things about her straight in her face.
But Ciara who knew that none of the things they were saying about her were true, decided not to waist her energy trying to clarify to these bunch of idiots. But when they saw that Ciara wasn’t saying anything about the gossip the others who had been neutral all this time thought that there might be some truth in this.
” see, she knows too that she nothing but a home wrecker. Exactly what they said about her on the internet. ”
All the writers were soon called in for the annual briefing, which was nothing but going through the previous year and discussing ways to improve their skill on the new year. The meeting didn’t take even an hour and they were allowed to leave.
” ohw my God Cici, you are so scarce these days where have you been? Owh my god you guys must do something about the hospitality and professionalism in this place, I’m the mayor’s daughter for heaven sake why are they treating me like an animal in the zoo. ”
That was none than Annie whom they said should have beaten Ciara up for being a third wheel in their relationship. Now when Ciara’s collegues saw how friendly Annie was to Ciara it was as if they were struck by lightning. They all looked at Ciara in shock, isn’t she supposed to be the third party, are they not supposed to be enemies?. Those were the questions they mumbled among themselves.
Chapter 67
While they all gave her a questioning look, Ciara paid them no mind, she pretended to have not seen them.
She thought it was weird that they were now questioning her relationship with Annie, and want to know what was really happening when not even an hour ago they were convinced that she was the villain who takes people’s men. She welcomed Annie with opened arms.
” Cousin! What are you doing here, you should’ve told me you were coming, you wouldn’t have waited for that long. ”
” arhg it’s not a train smash, you know how your husband is like. He made me come all the way here to make sure your colleagues don’t bully you. I know people have labeled you as the man snatcher.”
Annie said the last part while gazing over the employees in the room who seemed to have been embarrassed to be called out by the mayor’s daughter like that.
” Owh my God that man, and you also came. Tsk tsk, let me tell you something, nowadays people don’t care about getting their facts right. They will label you what ever they want and in their eyes you’d always be the bad person. Come on let’s go out so we could talk privately. ”
She headed to her work station and packed her bag ready to go.
” My house perhaps? ”.
” Naa I’ve been indoors for a while now, let’s go somewhere fun. ”
They exited the office and went to the elevator, as soon as the doors shut close the whole office turned in to an uproar.
They were wondering what Ciara meant by cousin, did that mean that Ciara whom they’ve always bullied was actually related to the mayor. But what is the story about Ciara being a third wheel, is that also a lie.
” I told you guys that there must a misunderstanding in this whole thing, but you wouldn’t listen. ” one of the colleagues pointed out, she was actually happy that she never said anything nasty to Ciara, and now that it seemed like Ciara had a strong background all those who had bullied her, were in cold sweat. What if she decides to fight back, in their eyes Ciara had the power to end their careers. Well that wasn’t far from the truth as her husband was more than capable of doing that, it’s just that, it wasn’t in Ciara’s nature to be nasty or bring about harm to others.
” so Ciara is not a third wheel but is actually married to someone, do you guys know who that person is. ”
” stupid! How will we know when we only found out she was related to the mayor just minutes ago. ”
” I think it’s someone powerful, I don’t think her family would allow her to marry a nobody. They man even commands the mayor’s daughter. ”
” I beg to differ, Have you ever seen Ciara wearing a ring? What kind of a man fails to even buy his wife a ring? I think she just married a lowly man, which explains why their relationship has been kept a secret. ”
You see, when someone dislikes you, they will always find bad in everything you do. Now that it was confirmed that Ciara was not a mistress destroying someone’s relationship, they decided to makeup a story for themselves which they actually believed. They thought the reason behind Ciara’s marriage secrecy was due to her suffering, it either the man was poor or maybe he was a crippled hence why Ciara never told anyone about it. As they all came to this conclusion, the same employee who had been defending Ciara spoke up again.
” what if you guys are all wrong, what if the answer is right in front of us. Don’t you find it weird that she is always with Mr Liam Jones, the president of Jones group? Even if she doesn’t have an expensive ring or any ring for that matter, Did you notice that extremely expensive watch she’s always wearing, even when her outfit don’t match with that watch, she would still put it on? ”
” yeah what about it?
Now that she was making sense everyone focused on what she was about to say.
” Don’t you find it weird that Mr Jones have the exact same watch, but a male version of it off cause? You know there’re only 3 pairs in the world and only 1 pair was spotted in this country. What if instead of rings, these watches symbolizes their love.? ”
” hahahaha don’t be stupid, Mr Jones is among the top 20 richest people in the world, why on earth would he go for a woman like her. And why would Ciara be here working her but off, instead of spending her husband’s money every day? ”
Everyone had almost believed the first employee but upon listening to the second one, everything she said made even more sense. They just concluded that it was all a coincidence or perhaps Ciara bought the watch herself, they felt that it was highly possible for that to happen since they discovered that she came from an influential family.
Chapter 68
Ciara and Annie both exited the company building and headed to a nearby coffee shop, it was still morning and they both had already had their breakfast. They were just using the shop to catch up on everything.
“OK seriously though Ciara how have you been, I saw all the post and how everyone was attacking you on social media. I’m just sad that I wasn’t there for you when it all happened, I’ve been put on guard like a prisoner in my own home, arhg just imagine. How pathetic. “
” hihihi jeah with your dad against me. Trust me I understand, anyway that’s how we grow. It was hard at first but now that everything has been resolved I feel much safer. “
When Annie heard Ciara mention her dad, she was embarrassed. She just couldn’t understand her dad’s behavior too, sacrificing her happiness for his own benefits. That was not how a loving parent does things, but now what can she say when her own dad is so selfish and doesn’t consider her at all.
” Ciara to be honest Liam didn’t send me to your office today, I was there to warn you of something. It’s just that as I was waiting for you to be done with your meeting I heard some of your colleagues gossiping about you, they even thought I was there to call you out and some wished that I could beat you up. Which is why I said all those things, I hope you don’t mind that I revealed that you are married. “
” of course not, I’m not offended at all, besides, they will find out one way or the other. So what is it that you wanted to warn me about. “
Annie looked down for a bit while stirring her Chai latte she had ordered.
” I’m not too sure what is going on but my dad is plotting something against you, I saw him talking to your ex Dex and he seemed OK with working with dad. So I’m basically here to warn you to be careful these coming days.
” it’s ok, thank you for the heads up. I just don’t know what I’ve ever done to offend uncle, he seems to be against me. Sometimes I feel like he hates me”.
Annie couldn’t hide her disappointment toward her father, it was hard to snitch on her dad but If it meant to save someone’s marriage from being destroyed by Wilson, she would do it again when Given a chance.
” I don’t think he hates you, you know. I think he is overly ambitious, and doesn’t mind stepping on people to get to the place he desires.”
” I see, he said he will force me to break up with Liam. Does he even know that we are married? I’d be surprised if doesn’t. “
” Well I haven’t told, he still thinks that you guys are dating. “
They continued to chat for a while, before they went their separate ways. Ciara though returned to her company as her car was still parked in front of the building. When she reached she noticed someone who she hadn’t seen in ages and their last encounter isn’t what she would like to remember.
She tried to hide and act like she hadn’t seen him, but sadly for her Dexter has been waiting for her for quite some time and was on the look out.
He walked up to Ciara who was fishing for her car keys in her bag. He looked like he was nervous and acted apologetic, when Ciara saw this she sneered.
“Hey can we talk?”
“why would I talk to you after everything you’ve put me through.”
She was so shock that she even thought that her ears couldn’t hear properly, she couldn’t believe that the person in front of him was the same man who called her names a few months ago at the shooting site.
” I’m sorry OK! I’m sorry for everything I’ve put you through, I wasn’t in my right state of mind and couldn’t cherish what I had back then. I still love you Ciara.”
At this time the poor man looked as sincere as ever, if Annie didn’t tell her about his collaboration with Wilson and if she hadn’t given her heart to Liam she would have probably believed him. She looked curiously at him and decided not to call him out on his act. ” two can play that game” she thought to herself.
” what makes you think that I would come back to you after everything you put me through?”
” I know what I did was wrong, but if you could just give me a second chance I’ll make it up to you, I swear.”
” Well I don’t do second chances Dexter, and like you said ‘ I couldn’t wait to get in to Liam’s bed.’ I’ve moved on. So it will be best if you stop pestering me, OK. “
When he saw Ciara unlock her car he ” panicked ” and took two large steps and roughly grabbed on her wrist, he held it so tight that it instantly stung, but Ciara wasn’t about to show him her weakness.
” let go of me, right now Dexter. “
” Ciara I’m sorry but I can’t. I really love you. I would be a fool if I repeat the same mistake again. I can’t let you go without your love back.”
Chapter 69
” Love back? , what do you mean by that?… Dexter you humiliated me, and left me without a reason, I had to be the one who cancels the wedding. Do you know how humiliating that was for me, I guess not coz you’ll never be in my shoes.”
Although all this bickering reminded her of all the humiliating moments she had when Dexter dumped her using a text message, and how she was the subject of gossip among her co-workers and those they had invited. She still kept her cool and did not shed a single tear. To her this proved that she was way over Dexter and had mourned her relationship with him, hence why she didn’t feel anything for him.
She then opened the door and was ready to hop in to the car when Dexter tightened his grip on her.
All that sincere apology and repentance evaporated through the air, as his facial expression changed.
” Where do you think you are going Ciara, I told you I was sorry and am not leaving here without you. One way or the other you will love me.”
Ciara’s eyes widened in shock, she was wondering what he meant with his statement. Is she being kidnapped again or what?
” Dexter be clear, what do you want from me”.
Now her voice was stern as she asked him.
” I want you to be my wife, I told you that I love you Ciara, I’m now a new man and today we are getting our marriage certificate.” although he was saying all these sweet things, his voice though, said otherwise. You could tell by just looking at his face that what he was claiming was totally against his feelings.
” To hell with that. Why would I want to Marry you after all that you’ve put me through. Heck I don’t even want to see you.”
This infuriated Dexter as he was listening to her comment and lost his cool.
“why won’t you , Is it because of that man Liam? How is he better than me, is it because of his money because I know for sure he doesn’t love you like that. A man like him use girls like you. It’s just a matter of time till he dispose of you. I’m just doing the both of you a favor. “
Ciara immediately yanked her hand off as she said her words in greeted teeth.
” Too bad, I would rather be played and used by him than to be with you. I would much rather die in his hands than to suffer in your presence. “
As her words dropped Dexter again pulled Ciara away from her car.
” we are going to see about that, but right now we’re going to register our marriage and you will be my wife. “
” And I would like to see you try, touch my woman and you shall pay with your life.”
A deep threatening voice was heard coming from behind Dexter, he was so focused on finishing his mission that he failed to notice when they had company. The deep voice left the cunning Dexter shaking, he didn’t think that Liam will show up while he was there. He felt that his plan was well strategised that there was little to no chance of it failing. He thought if they were to get married quickly by the time Liam finds out he would surely be disgusted by Ciara and probably leave her for good.
Right now Liam was holding Ciara closely by her waist and looking at Dexter with his raised eyebrow.
” You must be mistaken here Mr Jones but Ms Williams right here is my fiance and we were planning on getting our marriage certificate today at the marriage registry court, before you interrupted us.”
As a man, Dexter couldn’t allow his ego and pride to be destroyed in front of another man like that, so he chose to stick to his story and make it seem like Ciara and him were in a relationship. He thought one way or another Liam will leave Ciara especially now that he had revealed that he was seeing Ciara behind Liam’s back. But as he spoke Ciara layed her head on Liam’s shoulders as if she was sure of Liam’s reaction after this bom was dropped by Dexter.
Right on the top floor of the building, one of Ciara’s co-workers happened to be printing something, using a printer that was located near the floor to ceiling windows and saw what was happening on the streets below.
” Hey guys I told you Ciara might be married to Mr Jones, look at how cousy they are. Mr Jones looks like he is claiming what is his in front of that man.”
Immediately all the female employees came rushing to the window so that they too can witness the scene. Some were happy for her but a few still hated her as their jealousy and envy grew. They wanted to be her, and have everything that she had. Now that she had the highest status in the company most of them felt remorseful to Ciara for treating her the way they did.
When Liam heard what Dexter just said, he laughed a little before asking him a question.
” fiancé you say?” although he still had a smile on his face, one couldn’t help but hear the seriousness in his voice. But Dexter off cause thought he had nothing to lose.
” Yeah we have been engaged for over a year now.”
Now all the smile was wiped off, of Liam’s face as a deadly aura surrounded him and looked at Dexter with b***d shot eyes.
Chapter 70
Liam was quiet for a while, thinking if the man’s brain functioned well to even say what he said out loud.
“So you are telling me that my wife right here is also your fiance? “
He then looked straight in to Dexter’s eyes to see if the man still had the guts to go against him.
” But if you still insist on saying that she is your fiance then I won’t stop you from taking her. “
Although that is what he said, his hand held tightly to his wife waist giving her an assurance that nothing will ever happen to her.
And as expected Dexter took a step back, he dare not go against thee Liam Jones so openly. He knew he would never win should he ever decide to go in to war with the Jones, in fact not only will he lose but also his whole family would be negatively affected by it.
” Married? What do you mean by that…. I’m really sorry Mr Jones I didn’t mean to offend you in any way..”
Liam didn’t even bother to answer him, he turned and led his wife in to the passenger side of the car before settling himself on the driver’s side and drove to his company. All this while Ciara had been quiet, probably still processing what had just happened with Dexter also trying to figure out what was Wilson’s intention. Lost in her thoughts she didn’t even ask where Liam was taking her to, it was only when Liam parked the car and opened his side of the door that she realized that they were at the Jones’ group head quarters where Liam worked.
” Hey what are we doing here?” she asked in a low voice.
” this is where your husband works sweetheart.” he responded with a smile.
“but why are we here,?.”
Liam only smiled and led her to his private elevator. Not far from where they were, the receptionist was looking their way and greeted them with a huge smile on her face, giving Ciara a knowing look.
Ever since she saw Ciara being welcomed warmly by the president on her first visit, this receptionist had tried her best to be kind to Ciara and makeup for her horrible behavior the other day and of course to curry favor with Ciara and gain favors from her.
Unfortunately though because of her rudeness Ciara had never paid any attention to her after that and every time when she visited Liam at the office, Larry would be there to welcome her or came when the receptionist wasn’t around.
When the two got to Liam’s office, Ciara was surprised to see what her husband had done for her.
” please tell me you haven’t had your lunch yet.”
That was Liam as he was looking at the few dishes on the table in front of them. But still pushed her to the couch so that they could enjoy their lunch together.
Looking at the meals in front of her, Ciara’s heart melted. She felt that her husband was very thoughtful. Since they were now back at work and wouldn’t be able to share their meals together Liam decided to invite her to his office during his lunch time so that they could eat together and spend sometime together as a couple.
” Owh God you know me too well, lucky for you I only had coffee with Annie not so long ago but of course there’s a lot of space for delicious food.”
Liam couldn’t help though but think that his wife was a glutton.
“You eat a lot but don’t gain weight, where does all the food go.? “
“Well we should thank the creator for that, as my metabolism is super good.”
They enjoyed their Meal together over some light chat.
“You know you never told me about how you found out about my whereabouts when I was kidnapped by Laura. “
” I have my ways, but that watch you are wearing is what lead us to your exact location, I installed a GPS on it.”
Ciara was shocked to hear that Liam had a GPS installed in her watch, she thought it was somewhat invading her privacy and didn’t like feeling of being watched everywhere she went. But also calmed down when she remembered that it was the exact same watch that helped her when she was in trouble and when she thought that Liam installed the GPS not to spy on her but for her safety, she instantly calmed down.
” Then I will never take it out, just incase Wilson also tries the same trick as Laura.”
“Why did he do something or is he planning anything that you are in the loop about.”
” Well..” Ciara went on to fill Liam in on the things Annie had told her about, especially the part where Wilson partnered up with Dexter to destroy her. Liam clenched his hands as he listened to Ciara talk to him.
” let him try and do something to you, and he will regret it. I guess I’ll have to give him a chat and warn him.”
” only a warning right, he still hasn’t done anything to me, besides you were there on time to save me from that Dexter man.”
“If Wilson is a sensible man then, yes, it will be just a warning but otherwise I can’t just sit and watch another man destroy my family, let alone Wilson.
I will do anything and everything to keep you safe sweetheart.”
