Chapter 76
The man with a gun in his hand laughed a little while looking at Ciara.
“young lady, are you not scared of dying? How dare you disturb me like that.”
Ciara seemed unfazed by the gun man’s statement as she responded.
” You said he kidnapped a woman, how is that possible that I’m standing here in front of you when I’m the one he was following all this while, he was outside this coffee shop all this time cause he was waiting for me. I’ll let this pass if you let him go, as we all know that mistakes do happen. But try something and you will definitely be on my bad side.”
The man smiled and slowly walked toward Ciara and caressed her face.
” dear there’s nothing you can do to me, I can kill you both right here and feed you to my dogs. But you know what, how about I make you my mistress, keep me company till I have my fill with you.”
Ciara was so disgusted by the man’s word so much that Without out even thinking about it, she found herself spitting on the man’s face, earning her a hot slap from the man.
She ignored the pain and challenged the man.
” You call yourself a man but you hit a woman when they least expected it. OK since you started it, let’s fight and the one who wins decides the outcome of the other.”
The man looked at Ciara’s delicate skin, soft looking hand and knew that he would crush her without using much energy.
” woman, if you fight me death will be your outcome.”
“then so be it.” that was Ciara’s calm yet firm response.
As soon as her last word dropped, the man’s first punch landed on Ciara’s shoulder and since she hadn’t expected it at that very second, the impact pushed her a couple of meters away from where she originally was.
She composed herself and immediately got in to her martial art battle mode. She fixed her eyes straight on the gun man’s movements and ran fast to him. No one knew what had happened all they saw was Ciara running and after a split second the gunman was lying on the floor screaming so loud that you would actually think that he was attacked by the supernatural. One arm and one leg were broken.
Seeing their brother defeated in such an embarrassing way, and with the thought of defending their reputation they all forgot about Dexter and all rushed to Ciara, determined to kill her with their own hands. None of them could use their guns as that would prove that they were weak and failed to fight a woman. As they charge toward Ciara, she too charged at them meeting them halfway. She looked like a mad woman as she fought those men. Gone was the gentle soul, weak looking and delicate woman that every one knew. She was now fighting like her life depended on it.
In Less than 5 minutes every member of the Dube siblings were on the ground screaming in shame.
As she tried to calm herself down she was surprised to see that the dessert bag she got from the shop was still in her hands. She took out her phone and called and ambulance for Dexter then turned to leave but soon came to a full stop when she noticed the car which seemed too familiar to her.
It was a black tinted Mercedes s class. When she was about to walk closer to the car, one of the back door open and a man stepped out of the car. Immediately when Ciara saw Liam all her emotions and stress came surging to her, she ran and threw herself at him and started bowling her eyes out.
She was now like a timid little girl who just got bullied by a group of men. Even though she had just whipped those men’s arss, now that her adrenaline levels had gone down a little, it was only then that she realized how dangerous the situation she was in. The only thing that had helped her was all those years of practice since she was young, and the bonus factor was that they were in a country where martial arts was not appreciated, only a few people could master the skill.
So no matter how good those men were in general fighting, with her skills Ciara was able to defeat them all.
Liam on the other hand who had witnessed everything, and saw how brutal she was when dealing with those men was quite surprised to her 360 degree turn but was also glad that she could still see him as her safe heaven.
He hugged her back and led her in the car, and after making sure she was comfortable he then went out toward Dexter and helped him up. They waited for a few minutes till the ambulance arrived and helped him in the ambulance van. Police were also called to the scene of which they too called ambulances for the injured Dube brothers. Liam talked to the police and gave them the footage from the vintage coffee shop that showed everything that had happened, which he collected while they were waiting earlier.
With Ciara now being cleared out of the case Liam went back to the car and found Ciara cuddling a bag which looked like it was a takeout from the shop.
He looked at her and laughed for a while and then teased her.
“even after that intense war you just had, that didn’t break. Huh, I guess you really love your food hey.” he teased her while ruffling her hair.
“Hey hey, I got these especially for you.”
Chapter 77
Once they were both settled in the car Liam ordered Larry to drive them to the hospital, he saw for himself that nothing had happened to Ciara during her fight with the Dube brothers but for his wife he needed to be sure.
” You never really told me the reason why you were in such a place in the first place, and for heaven sake why was your ex with you?”
Now thinking about how protective Ciara was over Dexter Liam’s jealousy crept in.
” No need to be jealous mylove, I noticed that man following before I got in to the coffee shop, I didn’t even interact with him. And even though I despise him, I just couldn’t let someone I know get killed for things they didn’t even do.”
Liam’s face turned even grimer, he knew that his wife was a kind hearted person and would have probably done the same or even more should he be in a similar situation. He pulled her in his arms again and stated with a serious voice.
” That does not mean that you should compromise your own safety, what if those men knew martial arts as well, you would have been doomed. Yes you don’t have to let him die and do nothing about it, but you can always call the police as soon as you see the injust. Promise me you won’t put yourself and my child in danger like that again. “
Upon hearing what Liam had to say, Ciara was more confused, more than she ever did.
” what do you mean your child, I’m not even pregnant. Why would you say that? “
” It’s a matter of time sweetheart, if you are not pregnant now then you will have to work harder. But I need you to promise me you’ll do your best to remove yourself from any possible danger. “
” fine fine, darling I promise. Happy? “
Liam let out a mischievous smiled as he grabbed on Ciara butt.
” yeah, certainly! “
Ciara’s face immediately turned scarlet red, worse she did not have the time to compose herself as the car had already pulled over at the hospital parking.
They both got out of the car with Liam as serious as ever, no longer acting like shameless man he was a moment ago. Right now he was the Mr Jones that everyone both feared and respected.
They skipped the line and all the formalities and walked straight to the Jones family doctor who was already notified and waiting for their arrival.
The doctor did some general checks on Ciara and found that apart from the swelling on her face and shoulder and a few scratch there was nothing to worry about. He then insisted that since they were already at the hospital it would be best for Ciara to just do her annual checkup where they took some b***d samples and sent them to the laboratory. While Liam and Ciara were on their way to the waiting room they bumped in to Ciara’s parents who didn’t look well at all. Ciara was shocked to see them at the hospital and what made it worse was they both looked like they just lost a loved one to death. She paused in her tracks and looked at them with simpathy, she wanted to say something but was also scared of offending her father whom she had not seen for many years.
Ciara’s mom though could not hold herself any longer as she threw herself at Ciara with tears running down her face.
” Owh dear it’s your grandfather, he’s not feeling well. You know, ever since granny passed away he hadn’t been himself as they were very close. This morning we had breakfast as always, and after that he went to the back garden to bask in the sun.” she then took a deep breath not knowing how to tell her daughter the news.
Ciara patted her mother on the shoulder gently encouraging her to talk.
” You can tell me mom, what happened to Pa?. “
” Well a few hours after that, 2 hours to be precise we had a friendly visitor who kept him company, but because they had to work, the visitor left early. I don’t know Ciara maybe your grandfather didn’t want him to leave because not long after that he collapsed and fainted on the floor, he is currently in a comma and the doctors can’t find anything wrong with him.”
When they heard this both Liam and Ciara looked at each other in disbelief and shock in their eyes, they instantly knew who the visitor was but the just couldn’t believe that he’d go to such lengths to make her submit to him.
” who is that visitor? “
” It was your uncle Wilson, but he did nothing wrong that man is family and would not do anything to hurt us.”
When Ciara heard this, she thought to herself ‘well guess he already did hurt us.’
“I understand, can I go see Pa?”
Ciara’s father who had been quiet all this while, standing emotionlessly not too far from them answered on his wife’s behalf.
“only family is allowed entry to the ICU ward, the last time I checked we don’t have a family member like you. A disgrace to our surname, you dare show up with a man in front of us, I bet he is also in that writing hobby of yours. Nothing but useless achievements. “
” Williams stop! She’s your daughter. “
Williams’ wife reprimanded him harshly but that still didn’t stop him from releasing his wrath on Ciara.
” She not my daughter, if she was my daughter she would be helping build the Williams empire right now and not chasing after meaningless careers. “
” Hey that’s enough! Now is not the time to be bashing her.”
His wife pulled him away from the duo, who was holding hands tightly with Ciara locking her eyes on her toes and tear drops falling almost on her toes.
Chapter 78
As soon as the Williams’ parents turned the corner Liam pulled his wife in to a hug, and consoled her. He kept brushing her back allowing her to cry as much as she wanted.
Not in the mood to stay in the hospital any longer they decided to go back home and be able to deal with their emotions privately.
As they made their way out of that hospital they heard rushing footsteps coming their way as someone called out to Liam.
“Mr Jones, Mr Jones the results are out.”
That was their doctor holding a brown A4 envelope in his hands. When Liam saw him he waved his hand and took the envelope away from the doctor.
” that would be all for now, I’ll call you should I need clarification. “
” But you do not understand sir, this….” as Liam now focused on what the doctor was about to say as it sounded serious, Ciara interrupted.
“Liam take me home please, I’m tired.”
With that Liam had no choice but to listen to his wife and excuse himself from the doctor.
“I’ll call you when we get home.”
With that he turned and led his wife to their car which was parked not far from the hospital entrance.
When they got there Larry had already opened the door for them to enter and once they were all settled, Larry drove them straight home, with Ciara sleeping peacefully on Liam’s lap.
No long after the car entered the main road Liam received a call from his friend and lawyer Matthew.
” Talk to me, what’s up?”
Matthew on the other side said something that the other 2 people in the car was not able to hear, but Ciara whom they thought was sound asleep could literally feel Liam’s body tense up the moment the person on the other side of the phone spoke.
She wondered what could have happened that made Liam this tense.
Soon the car pulled up in their drive way, Liam help her in but stopped in the hallway.
” something happened at the company, I won’t be accompanying you.”
” what is it, can I help?”
” No need to worry about it, I fix it.”
That’s all he said as he turned and left Ciara worried and also stressed. She had a lot to deal with, Wilson was really pushing her to her limits at this point. She had her granddad in hospital fighting for his life, with her dad still angry at her and now Liam’s company had problems. She took out her phone to see if she could find something, a clue maybe related to the company but what she saw shocked her to the core.
There was an internal leak of important information in one of the main companies under Jones’ group, the company’s stocks were falling rapidly.
As she read the articles alarm bells rang in her mind, who could’ve done this to him and why, what was the motive? She want to know the answer to these questions and at this moment the only suspect she could think of is none other than her uncle.
” Wilson!! You will pay for this.”
She took out her phone and called him right at that moment.
” Talk to me!”
“Wilson you Bastard, how could you.”
“hahaha hahaha, why you don’t like the game now little girl. Say what, come see me tomorrow if you want all this to end.”
He then ended the call, not even bothering to hear what Ciara had to say to him as she was the one who called him in the first place.
As she noticed that her uncle had already hung up on her, Ciara screamed on top of her lungs like a crazy woman, luckily she was at her own house and would not be heard by neighbors.
Back at the Jones group headquarters, when Liam arrived at his office, he found both his two friends already there waiting for him.
” I appreciate you guys coming here, tell me what happened. I need to call an emergency meeting after this.”
Matthew was first to speak up as he was well informed about what really happened.
“important routes and clients from the logistics company have been leaked, we need to solve this as fast as we can.”
By this time Liam was scratching his head in frustration trying to figure out any loose ends and the person who could have leaked this kind of information.
Finnick stood up and walked toward Liam as he spoke.
” I know you are still stressed man but you need to find a way to solve this quickly, you know our country if this is not solved, it could potentially cause safety risks to both the drivers and your company.”
Liam stood up and took out his phone then made a call to the head of HR informed to call out all head of departments in the company for an emergency meeting. Just in less than an hour people started to arrive at the company, surprisingly all eager to solve the problem at hand. None of them complained about being called back to the company at such a short notice especially since it was late at night.
Once everyone was seated at the meeting room Liam, Finnick and Matthew also entered, and just like that the meeting commenced.
They discussed way in which they could keep the clients they already have happy and how the company could be kept at its operational levels under such circumstances and ways they can solve their problems and also find the culprit.
After the meeting, before Liam went home he told the HR head to inform the operations team about a meeting that will be held first thing in the morning the next day.
By the time Liam got home it was already 2am.
Chapter 79
He went straight to the guests bathroom and took a shower, then quietly walked to their bedroom opened the door trying his best not wake Ciara up.
He got in bed then pulled up the blanket.
” You are not about to sleep with an empty stomach are you?”
That voice freaked him out a little, all this while he had thought that Ciara was sleeping.
” Hey why are you not sleeping at this time.?”
” Well as you can see I’m waiting for you, now get up, you need to eat something. “
” I’m too tired, and already had a snack at work.”
With that Liam pulled Ciara closer to him so that she won’t ask him more questions, and he fell asleep immediately after that.
A few hours later when Liam woke up, he found that Ciara wasn’t sleeping next to him as it would always be the case every morning when he woke up. He was confused and thought something had happened, without even brushing his teeth he rushed downstairs to look for her.
As he went down the steps he was welcomed by aromas coming from the kitchen, he walked closer and found his wife busy making breakfast. While Ciara was still turning her eggs on the stove, Liam came from the back and hugged her tightly.
” Good morning sweetheart.”
He greeted her with his hoarse morning voice. Ciara turned around and gave him a light peck on his lips and instructed.
” Go and freshen up, I need you to eat something before you go to work.”
” feeling pity for your man?”
” Oh God, just go. “
Although Ciara was pushing him out of the kitchen it was evident from the blush that filled her face that what Liam said is true.
As he didn’t have much time in his hands, he quickly went up stairs again and took his morning shower and got ready for work and about 30 minutes later he made his way to the dining table to have his breakfast and left for work.
After Liam had left the house Ciara cleared the table and also got ready for her appointment with Wilson. She was only wearing her lounge wear, she just couldn’t the need of dressing up when the person she is meeting is not even important to her at all.
She took her car keys and walked out to the address Wilson had sent her which was surprisingly his house. When she got the she informed the security that she was meeting the mayor but did not introduce herself as family and that man disgusted her to the core. After a minute or so, the security guard opened the gate for her and she drove straight toward the house and parked her car not far from the main entrance door.
She knocked and the made opened the door for her as she was already aware of her arrival. As she walked in she saw Annie walking down the stairs and they both felt awkward when they saw each other.
” Hey Cee, nice to see you, what brings you here?”
Ciara did not bother about their relationship and was not there to socialize, so she went straight to the point.
“only you father can truly answer that, where is he. Kindly tell him I’m here as he requested.”
“oh OK.”
Annie awkwardly turned back and went Wilson’s office to inform him about Ciara’s irrival but was asked to bring her in.
” Hey CiCi, he is waiting for you in his office.”
Ciara only nodded in acknowledgement and followed Annie to the direction of the office.
Once inside, she did not even wait till they were the only people in the room but shot her question.
” Now tell me Wilson why are you doing this, what did grandpa and Liam do to you to punish them huh? Does PA even deserve to die, tell me why? Why did you poison him he’s your family for heaven sake?”
” Hahaha Hahahaha Family? Oh Ciara don’t act all holy here, I clearly asked you to stay away from Liam to help your sister and what did you do, huh. Did you not got straight to the marriage registry office and got married to him, now you are here preaching about family huh? “
Right there she knew there was nothing she could say that would change his insanity.
” What do you want Wilson. “
Wilson smiled evilly at her before answering her question.
” what makes you think I want something from you, you clearly couldn’t give me what I wanted. I warned you that I will force your hand but you and Liam played me and now my dear it is time to pay.”
“No Liam did nothing wrong to you, if you want someone to punish vent on me, punish me, kill me, what ever it is you want but leave Liam and grandpa out of this.”
” Clever, I can never be able to touch Liam nor his family members but I can always distract him with his business., and with you around him he will always fear your safety and neglect his businesses so either way, I will get what I want. I will take down everyone you care for, one by one till you break up with Liam. Trust me with all the load Liam has on his hands, he definitely won’t do anything to me. “
” what do you mean? “
Now Ciara’s voice was low, doubting she would ever be able to stop her uncle from this madness.
” what I mean, oh dear Ciara is that 3 days from now your husband’s company will shutdown if you don’t do as I say. Oh and before I forget this is not the time for you to be thinking about solutions, each day from these 3 days I’m giving you one person you care about will be in the same situation as grandpa. Make the decision fast and wisely. Don’t waist time.”
” but how will I know that you are not going to kill all of them? “
” Well you will have to trust me, either way I have the antidote. “
Chapter 80
Antidote? What does he mean he has the antidote, didn’t he already kill grandpa meaning he’ll kill everyone else and destroy my husband’s company’.
This is what confused Ciara the most, if old man Williams was lying at the hospital’s intensive care unit, that meant that there were little to no chance of him making it.
” wha…. what are you saying Wilson.”
” firstly I’m your uncle and the mayor of this city, put some respect to my name damn it. The poison I gave your grandfather only paralyzed all his organs but needs to be cleared in three days otherwise without the antidote to clear it he is as good as dead. The same goes for my next 3 victims if you don’t do as I say. “
Ciara left the house dejectedly , not knowing what to do she drove around aimlessly until she found herself parked in front of the hospital where her grandpa was admitted.
At the Jones group headquarters, all the employees from the operations department were gathered in the meeting as the email had summoned them. The air that surrounded the room was at its freezing point, Liam was seated at the head of the table which was his presidential seat. Today he was even more intimidating than he had ever been, no one dared to looked him in the eyes. Everyone was scared for their position in the company.
” I will ask this question one more time, who the hell exposed that information to the public. Dare not say and you will all be sued for breach of contract. You really don’t want that as I will come for everything you own together with your family. Now talk. “
His voice was soft, calm as he spoke slowly but it was surely icy and as intimidating as ever.
” sir, we really have no idea, It could be one of the drivers really. “
Liam looked at the young lady who tried to speak up for the group. She was wearing a revealing suit dress that highlighted her cleavage area and as soon as she noticed Liam looking at her with squinted eyes and tilted head, she pecked up her chest in a more seductive manner.
” And your name is?”
He still maintained his soft, calm yet manly voice.
” Annabelle sir.” she smiled with confidence probably proud of herself.
” Annabelle huh, I see. You are fired.”
Just like that the woman lost her job as well as the man she was aiming for. But now she did not understand why she was being kicked out.
” But why? What did I do?”
Liam did not answer her but looked at the head of the department, who then explained to her.
” Anna no one in the company has the access to that kind of information, even the drivers themselves don’t know the routes they will be using for that day until they get to work that very day. Now not to mention the clients names, only a person from our department will be able to know all of the details. “
He then stood up and lead her out of the room, she did not protest but thought she would look for the right time to apologize and ask for her job back.
The head of the department soon returned to his seat then apologized to Liam for his subordinate’s bad behavior.
” ok now that, that was settled I’ll make things easy for you. Did you hire anyone recently or has anyone resigned recently?”
The head thought for a while before he answered his boss.
” yes actually our intern Jane resigned a few days ago, but it can’t be her though… “
As he heard the name Liam looked at Finnick then nodded, he understood that Liam was giving him the green light to investigate Jane.
” why is that, if I may ask?”
” Well before she left she mentioned that she was offered a job at the mayor’s office. “
Immediately Liam and his friends looked at each other, surprised at Wilson’s b*lls. He was probably doing it on purpose, not bothering to hide his tracks. It was as if he wanted them to know he was behind it all.
” OK that will be all for today, you may all return to work.”
‘what, just like that?’ that was all on the subordinates minds as they packed up their documents getting ready to head back to their logistics company branch.
Now it was only Liam, Matthew and Finnick in the meeting rooms.
” That Bastard is really pushing it now, all of this just to separate you from your wife, does he even know the consequences of his actions. He probably thinks we can’t get to him.”
That was Matthew expressing his anger towards Wilson, wishing he could just kill him with his own hands but as someone from a law background he knew very well that, that wouldn’t be good on his side.
Finnick also had his own report to share with his friends.
” So we were able to talk to the old man’s doctor, although all his organs are paralyzed they did not find anything out of the ordinary in his body and could not detect the cause of the problem. Normally a poison will cause this to happen, it’s just that they could not detect it and his b***d looks clean. “
The room was silent for a short while then Liam thought out loudly while looking at the 2 people present in the room with him.
” so old man Williams’ b***d looks clean but his organs are paralyzed. Just before that happened Wilson was the one with the old man, surely he was giving us a clue, and definitely used something on the old man. Could it be….. No no it can’t be.”
