Chapter 81
” Hey man talk what do you mean by that? Have you figured out what poison Wilson used?”
His friends were eager to hear the answer but now Liam was taking his time to answer them.
” Not that I know for sure, but the only explanation I can come up with is that he might have that ancient semi poison, it’s a rare liquid which was used to either blackmail or get someone to submit to your demands.”
He then kept quiet and silence engulfed the whole room, it seemed like everyone was in deep thought. Finnick again stood up and faced his friends, in an uncertain manner he shared his thoughts with them.
” Do you think he still hasn’t given up on putting pressure on Ciara so that she can separate from you? Could it be that he is attacking everyone most dear to her so that he can achieve his goal.”
Upon hearing this Matthew also shook his head and and voiced out his concerns.
” No man, you better be careful bro. If he really gets you to ingest that poison, your relationship is as good as dead. You know that woman loves you and will sure divorce you in order to save your life.”
” You think I don’t know that. I guess now I’m not touching anything that’s not prepared by my wife or maid. Sigh!! “.
Ciara slowly got out of her car and carefully made her way in to the hospital. She was able to reach the intensive care unit wards without being noticed by anyone. She provided proof that she was family and was allowed entry to her grandpa’s unit.
The moment she entered the room, tears filled her eyes and began crying silently but still let her tears roll down her eyes. She was now standing next to old man Williams’ bed and cried even harder, she was not able to say everything she wanted to say but what escaped her mouth was only..
” Owh PA I’m so sorry, I’m really sorry. This is all my fault please forgive me. I’m so sorry.”
She was so caught up with her emotions that she failed to notice that she now had company in the room.
” Don’t you dare say you are sorry, you made the decision deal with it. Now get out of here before I drag you out myself! “
That was her father’s loud angry voice, which startled her. And that’s when she realized that she had lost track of time, she was meant to quickly go in and see the old man for just a minute and completely vanish from the hospital.
She wiped her eye then looked her parents before apologizing to them.
” I’m sorry, I’ll be on my way then.”
She wasted no time after that as she immediately made her way out of the ward and left.
Not long after that Wilson came in and greeted them, noticing how distraught they looked he offered to go get them a bottle of water each but Mark Williams said he was fine but he can get a bottle for Mrs Williams. With that Wilson left to get the water but came back in less than a minute with a bottle in his hand.
” You came back so soon, did you forget something.”
” No I actually bumped in to Ciara and she gave me this bottle and said she’ll get herself another one.”
” I can’t believe that rascal is still here, we don’t want her water we get water for ourselves!”
If Mr Williams wasn’t angry earlier, he surely is now. When Wilson was about to turn around and go out, Hillary stopped him by reaching out her hands to grab the water bottle.
” it’s ok brother I do not mind. “
She then took a sip of her water and frowned.
” why does this water taste like there’s salt in it.”
“it’s probably too fresh.”
Apart from its salty taste she too didn’t think there was something wrong with the water as the cap was still sealed when she got the bottle. So she drank all the water till the last drop. A minute after that she started feeling light headed and didn’t know what was wrong with her, she tried leaning on Mark her husband but found that she was loosing her consciousness. Just like that the poor woman fainted. Both men shouted for the doctor’s help, Mark held his wife while Wilson went out to get the doctor. Minutes later Hillary was being wheeled to the emergency room.
After Ciara left the hospital she thought about everything that’s been happening and her loved one potentially being at risk because of her, and thought maybe leaving would be the best solution for all. But before she could leave she wanted to be selfish for the day, yes she couldn’t help grandpa but she can still save the others, she wanted to spend the rest of this day with her husband and create their final memory together.
She drove to the nearest supermarket and bought a lot of ingredients for the meal she wanted to prepare for her husband, she got flowers and after that she drove to the mall and walked up to a jewelery shop. She looked at a few wedding rings till her eyes rested on the beautiful matching black and rose gold wedding bands.
Those band were expensive but she knew needed to get them today or there will be no chance fo her to do that in the future. After she made her purchase she headed to the bank and withdrew a large sum of money and then headed back home.
When she opened the door she found Liam seating on the couch with a laptop on his lap working.
” You know I was about to call the police and file for a missing person’s report.”
That was meant to be a joke to Ciara but in the all she felt was guilt towards her husband.
When Liam lift up his head he noticed that Ciara had lots of shopping bags in her hand, so he stood up and helped her carry all the bags from the car to the kitchen.
Chapter 82
” what’s up with all this food, are we having company?”
Liam asked while looking at all the tons of shopping bags left on top of the kitchen counter.
” Nope, it’s just the two of us today hey.”
” ohw ook, where’s Ms Nicky? She can help you with that. “
” Well I gave everyone a day off, I guess she’s with her family by now. Today is about us, just the two of us. I want us to just celebrate our love and create memories together, besides we need to enjoy ourselves before your daughter comes. “
Liam jumped up in joy and hugged Ciara tightly then he moved down to k**s her stomach.
” Really? Are you really pregnant right now?”
Ciara pushed his head away from her stomach then giggled.
” silly, you said it’s only a matter of time…. Soon my love soon. “
Ciara laughed at Liam as she watched him walked away dejectedly. She then busied herself in the kitchen with Liam still busy on his laptop, but they would occasionally engage in small talk as she ensured that she does not burn her food.
” why are you here at this time, I thought you’d be busy solving the problems at the company.”
Liam paused there for a second, he didn’t think that Ciara would know what exactly was going on. But what was he thinking really, as everything was being reported and broadcasted everywhere.
” Well nothing is more important to me than your wellbeing. The company can wait… I’ll do what needs to be done while I’m here until everything settles down.”
Ciara smiled bitterly as she heard what Liam had just said. These were supposed to be the sweetest words that Liam could say but under these circumstances, his words just reminded her of how important it was to stay firm with her decision.
” is that so?”
” You want me to show you how important you are to me? “
Liam asked with a raise eyebrow as if daring her to say yes.
” hold yourself my love, there’s plenty of time for that.”
Not long after that, food was ready and Ciara brought the dishes out to the dining hall and called out to Liam to come and join her.
When Liam sat down he realized that all the dishes were his favorite and none of them were something Ciara would go out of her way to buy or randomly cook for herself but also would not mind eating if it was readily available for her to eat.
” celebrating our love, huh.”
She found her behavior a little odd, but just couldn’t think of the reason behind. It could have been from all the stress Wilson was causing her.
After their meal Ciara proposed for them to take a stroll on the beach, so they walked hand in hand kicking sand as they walked. They chilled there for a while, dipped their fit in the water and would from time to time sprinkle water on each other’s face in a playful manner. After Ciara had sprinkled Liam with water, she would run away like a mischievous little girl, running away from punishment while laughing.
After some time, they both were tired and decided to head back home.
As soon as they were home, Ciara went straight to the bathroom and prepared a romantic bath for two. She lit up her scented candles, filled up the tub with water, add bath salt, foam bath and rose petals from the flower she got earlier.
She took off all her clothes, entered the tub and then called out to Liam who showed up in no time.
“Hey need help…”
Liam’s voice trailed off as he walked in to this romantic setup he wasn’t expecting to see. He smirked as he leaned on the wall near the sink.
“Hey what do you want to do to me when you call me while looking like this?”
” You said you want to extend the family didn’t you? if that’s the case, hurry up and join me.”
With such an invitation Liam wasted no time and also took off his clothes and joined his wife in the tub. they locked themselves in that bathroom for hours, if those walls could talk, they would tell a shocking story.
When Ciara got out, she had only a towel wrapped around her body that was drained off all the energy she had.
She had also planned to make desserts to enjoy while watching television but now she turned herself in to that dessert.
She threw herself in bed, she was so exhausted that she just didn’t wish to move even her finger. Noticing this, Liam let her be and took his laptop to his study where he continued with his work.
Just before midnight he rubbed his eyes lazily and closed his computer and went to bed smiling as he was still happy about how he had spent his day with the woman he loved the most.
When he woke up the next morning, the whole house was filled with all sorts of aromas and this time he did not panic, instead he got up and readied himself for work as usual and went downstairs to enjoy the meal with his wife.
When he got there again it was only the health the healthy stuff that he liked, knowing Ciara, he knew very well that this was not her style. She would normally go for things like cereal or oily breakfast like sausages and bacon but today was different.
” uuh are we still celebrating our love?”
“yes! From now onwards we need to celebrate our love, no matter where we are and what time of the year it is but our love should always take the lead.”
Liam tensed up a little, he felt like he was being stabbed by niddles on his chest. But he just didn’t want to believe what came to his mind.
It was like what Ciara said their love was more important than anything else in the world now that was all he wanted to believe and nothing else.
“You are right, we must always fight for our love to blossom at all times.”
Chapter 83
They then quickly had their breakfast, just when Liam was about to stand up and get ready to head out to work, Ciara’s phone rang.
They both looked at each, then at the phone but when Liam saw the caller’s name he stood up to give Ciara space.
” Mom”
Ciara answered her phone then put the call on loud speaker.
” Are you happy now, Ciara. You even dare to call her your mom when you have just poisoned her. If you were so determined to kill the family why play games, just do it directly.”
The angry voice of her father came out from the other side of the of the phone.
” Dad, what do you mean poison? You guys were perfectly fine when I left yesterday. “
” who are you fooling, your mom tasted salt in that bottled water you gave to Wilson. “
” Wilson? But..”
Bip Bip bip
Just like that her father had ended the call without her explaining herself.
” Hey don’t be sad, everything is going to be fine. We are working on finding the antidote, we should have enough time to save everyone. “
Ciara looked down with tears forming in her eyes.
” well I was expecting this, he did say that everyone I care for will suffer the exact same ordeal as my Pa. “
” Wilson will pay for everything he’s done, he really messed with the wrong guy. I’ll be back in two hours, take care of yourself and don’t make any rash decisions OK. “
He then pulled her closer to him, they shared a sweet, passionate k**s for a while. He then grabbed his work case and left for work.
Ciara cleared the table and put all the dishes in the kitchen sink, Ms Nicky will clean up the place when she gets there in less than 2 hours from now.
She rushed upstairs took a small weekend bag and in the bottom layer of the bag she packed the money she had withdrawn the previous day then on top of that she packed up a few clothes that can at least last her a week and some cosmetics.
She then took out her unbranded hand bag and packed up her wallet with only a few thousand bucks in it, and a few essentials.
She went to Liam’s study room and got herself a pen and paper and started writing something on that page. Once she was done she took the piece of paper back to her bedroom and placed it on the bedside table. She took out the black and rose gold rings she had purchased, looked at them bitterly, she wore her matching band and left the small black square box with Liam’s ring on top of her letter.
She touched her watch as if contemplating if she should take it off or not, but in the end she decided to continue wearing it.
She looked around for some time and then when it was time for her leave, she took a deep breath and headed out.
A cab was already waiting for her when she got out.
Lucky for her the cab driver was an old man and wasn’t much of a conversationalist, so after their greetings and confirmation of her destination, their 45 minutes drive was peaceful and quiet.
She had calculated that by the time she reach that neighboring city Liam would probably still in the dark with what was happening.
When they arrived she paid the driver and walked in to a luxe watch store where asked them to remove the tracking device in her watch while she sent a text to wilson.
*It’s done, hope you are happy now. Stay away from my family and make sure they are alive. **
She then switched her phone off and left it on the counter.
In no time they were done with her watch, after she had paid for it she took her things except for the phone and took another taxi which headed to the airport and flew to Port Elizabeth which was about 15 hours from her city by bus, but only 90 minutes by plane.
As the airplane took off, she watched all the places she knew well and now was leaving it all behind. Her friends, family, work and whole life was there and she’s turning her back on it all just to save her loved ones.
Her line of thoughts were disturbed by the a hostess as she offered her a snack, but Ciara was in no mood to eat anything.
All she wanted was to nestle in the arms of the man she left behind.
Soon they were preparing to land, then they disembarked the plane. She was now in a new province and new city, she knew no one in that place and was about to start her new life all alone.
She walked out of the airport with her bags in tow, it took her some time before she could get a taxi and headed to a guest house where she booked her stay for a week.
After paying for the taxi, she went in and did the whole check-in process and got her room number and then she headed there. Once she walked, she was greeted by the smell of guava which she found very pungent to her as she gagged and rushed to the bathroom and vomited all her stomach out.
” weird.”
She got up and rinsed her mouth then opened all the windows and also got rid of the guavas.
Not in the mood to go out for lunch she ordered in her meal which was her favorite sweet and sour pork ribs with potatoes and some veggies. Once her food arrived she opened it with the intention of gobbling it all down but as soon as she saw the pork ribs she started gagging once again which frustrated her because that was her favorite thing to eat in the entire universe. Now she ended up eating the vegetables only then took a nap as she felt unusually tired .
Chapter 84
At the same time, Liam walked in the meeting room full of executives of the company. In the meeting they discussed measures to be taken against the perpetrators and ways in which they can continue maintaining the progress they have manage to make in the past 2 days. The meeting was longer than expected, it took a little over two hours for them to be done.
After the meeting, he politely excused himself and went to his office to pack up. He had promised Ciara he would be back to keep her company.
Just when he took his first step out of his office a call came in and it was Larry his right hand man.
” talk to me.”
” Sir it’s bad, people are protesting at our west side depot. You need to come over.”
” OK on my way.”
Right then he rushed to his car, he knew very well the risks that comes with protesting or strikes in this country. He could loose hundreds of millions in assets and stock if not controlled immediately.
He took out his cellphone and texted Ciara, telling her he’d be back a little later than expected because of an emergency at the company.
He then started his car and headed straight to that depot. When he arrived police were already called to the scene and were instructing the crowd to disperse as their gathering was illegal, they shouted to no avail as the crowd continued to sing and cursed at the same.
The crowd immediately became rowdy as they saw Liam’s car parking nearby. They seem to be very angry but still no one dared to come near to where Liam was. They only had the courage to make a ruckus as they were backed by someone they deemed to be of high importance.
They shouted from where they where,
” we want answers.”
Liam came closer to address the crowd.
” Greetings everyone, I’d like to give you all answers but you will have to let me know your concerns and and questions in order for me to know the problem you are facing.”
The leader was the one to respond first. He seemed to have been the one hyping the crowd all along.
” Mr Jones don’t act like you care about us at all, what about our investments to the company. Now that everything is falling apart when are we getting our money back huh?. Give us our money and we will not burn this place down.”
” I do apologize to those who have been affected, our dedicated staff and myself are work hard to solve the problem at hand. We have contacted all our investors and will be compensated for the inconvenience as it is a mistake on our side. “
” what about the clients? You said nothing about…. “
The leader stopped the one who was now speaking as he answered a call.
After some time he looked at the crowd and spoke in a loud audible voice.
” It’s done, let’s go guys we shall continue this another time. “
Liam, Larry and the other team members from the security personnel were all left dumbfounded. But were certainly not mistaken that this was all a set up.
After Liam instructed them to be in check with everything that is happening and also instructed Larry to up the security at all their sites, he then walked up to his car ready to head home.
As soon as he got in to his car he checked his phone incase Ciara responded to his text, much to surprise it showed that Ciara hadn’t received his text.
He started the car while calling Ms Nicky using the car spreaker as he was driving.
” Sir, good day.”
” mhm, can you check up on Ciara there for me, can’t get her on her phone.”
” But I haven’t seen Mrs Jones today, I thought she went to work with you this morning.”
Alarm bells started ringing in Liam’s head, he knew very well this was not a good sign for him. He pressed hard on the accelerater and rushed home.
When he got there he searched the entire house for her but found nothing. He tried calling her again but her phone was off, so he decided to go to the hospital he still had hopes that he would find her there.
He walked up to the intensive care unit where both Ciara’s mom and granddad were hospitalized but only found Mark Williams and Wilson there.
The moment Mark saw Liam his eyes turned “red!!”
“what the heck are you doing here, are you here to finish what your girlfriend started.”
He roared with anger as he approached Liam ready to give him the biggest punch he can come up with, but Wilson stopped him just in time.
” Hey brother what are you doing, that is Mr Liam Jones, the president of Jones group. You definitely don’t want to do that now”
Now that Wilson got what he wanted, he was over the moon with joy and didn’t mind defending Liam at all. Besides, now that Ciara is gone, there was a high chance that they will be family again.
He had initially thought that Ciara was making a fool out of him so he went to the hospital to camp and see if any of them would show up, but seeing how haggard and defeated Liam looked proved that Ciara did not lie. She did in fact break up with Liam.
Chapter 85
“What do you mean? Is he really Maggie’s son? But he was with Ciara just the other day”
Mark asked in confusion, he was embarrassed by how he acted when he saw Liam with Ciara the last time but also felt that it wasn’t something he should beat himself about. If Liam is Maggie’s son then he’s more like family to him.
” yes that’s because they are friends.” Wilson failed to mention that Liam and Ciara were a married couple as that would reveal his hypocrisy.
Liam saw what was happening there and also noticed the change in attitude displayed by Wilson. He did not have the energy for the two men so he turned around and left. His only mission right now was to find his wife.
He walked back in to his car and called his friends Finnick and Matthew to his house, he could use some extra brain and pairs of hands in this search.
When he arrived he found that Matthew’s car was already parked waiting for him to come back. Both Finnick and Matthew were using the same car.
They got off the car and followed Liam in as he walked straight to his study, where they started discussing everything, they opened the camera surveillance from the time Liam left for work and saw Ciara going in to the bedroom and after some time she came out holding a full weekend bag and placed it on the couch and walked up again but this time went to the study and they could see her writing something on a piece of paper, once she was done, she walked out then went to the bedroom. Again she spent some time in there and came out wiping tears in her eyes, the piece of paper was no longer in her hands but she only had a hand bag with her. She took her weekend bag and headed out, when she reached the door she glanced at the house one last time, took a deep breath left. The camera shows her getting in to a blue branded meter taxi and driving off.
” At least she left on her own and wasn’t kidnapped.” Matthew blurted out, but Finnick gave him a nudge with his elbow as if saying ” now is not the time.”
“What? What I mean is that at least she left a letter for Liam, all we need to do is find that letter maybe she did say where she was going.”
Speaking of the letter, Liam stood up and quickly left the office and went to his bedroom to look for the letter, with Finnick following behind and sat quietly on a sofa in the room while Liam was standing right in front of the bedside table, looking at the small black elegant box sitting on top a white paper. He ignored the box and took the piece of paper underneath.
“My Dearest Love.
Today I made the toughest decision of my life, and that is to completely leave the city. Please do not be mistaken, I love you so so much, I really do and it is because of this reason I left. I wanted to protect the people I love the most. The company is going through a lot because of me, my family is also being poisoned. It was up to me to stop all of this from happening. Wilson was right about one thing though which is ‘you will never be able to fully take care of the crisis at the company as you are more concerned about me.’ you have built a great name for yourself and I don’t want to take that away from you. I could not bring myself to watch as the company go down knowing very well that I am the reason for that.
Take this time to fix the company, take care of Wilson for me as I do not have the power to fight him.
He asked me to divorce you in exchange for the company and the lives of my loved ones, but I just couldn’t. I know I’m being selfish, running away from everything yet still denying you freedom, but it is because I love you so much that I can’t bare to cut ties with you. I have bought you a ring which is similar to the one I am wearing right now. That ring symbolizes our union and love, like I said don’t forget to celebrate our love each and every day.
You are the only man for me and will always be in my heart. Take care of everything first, don’t rush here. I have removed the tracker from the watch and changed my number but I know that with your capabilities you will be able to find me within a day but please don’t do that. For our sake and your family’s legacy please deal with the root problem, I’ve tried my best but failed, all I can do now is dissappear and hope that you will conquer and return to me.

By the time he finished reading the letter, tears had formed a glass layer on his eyes. He got even angrier with Wilson and was sure to come for him with everything he got. He slowly shifted his gaze from the letter to the small black box, then he opened it and found the most beautiful ring he had ever seen. Most probably because it was the last gift he got from his missing wife. He took out the ring and wore it on his ring finger and then smiled faintly.
‘ now everyone will know I’m a married man.’ he thought to himself, it was a pitty though that his wife wasn’t around so that he could show her off to the world. He vowed that was exactly what he will do once everything is settled.
Just then Matthew came in the bedroom rushing as if something or someone was chasing him.
Both Liam and Finnick looked at him in annoyance, he had just ruined Liam’s moment.
” Hey man, I did not mean to go through your things but you have got to see this man.”
Liam’s eyes shifted from Matthew to the brown envelope in his hand. Yes it was the same brown envelope handed to him by the doctor the last time he took Ciara to the hospital.
