Chapter 86
What is it?”
Matthew did not have the guts to answer that question, so instead of an answer he shoved the envelope in to Liam’s hands.
” Matt, can’t you be real for once.” Finnick commented in annoyance, but Matthew only shrugged his shoulder and continued to look at Liam in the eye, and was serious.
“what’s wrong? Is she sick?”
He clearly could still remember that brown envelope that he had placed on his study table but haven’t had the time to go through it.
“You’ll have to go through it yourself to know the content of this envelope. “
Liam nervously opened the envelope and started reading in silence, he went through the first two pages which he really didn’t understand but skipped as it was all written negative, when he got to the last page though he looked really confused, he read through it again but still couldn’t believe his eyes so he rubbed his eyes for some time and read again.
This action caught Finnick’s attention.
“is everything OK man?”
Instead of giving him an answer Liam passed him the page he was reading and then sat down on the edge of the bed while rubbing his head.
Finnick nervously took the report and started reading through it, he didn’t even read everything immediately when his eyes landed on positive for pregnancy, he started jumping up and down in celebration. And shouted,
” Man you are going to be a father soon, Whooo that’s great news, she’s pregnant. Wow!”
” yeah I’m going to be a father, God I need to see her right now!”
” No no no you can’t, that will put her at risk let’s not do that. Let’s deal with Wilson first then we will go and look for her. This should encourage us to fight this man, don’t you think?”
” yeah you’re right, but she’s all alone, my woman is alone in a city she’s not familiar with. “
” let’s see where last was she spotted, and then we can start searching once we settle everything this side. “
Both his friends tried to comfort him and were successfully able to persuade him not to go to Ciara as she was going to put both her and the baby in danger.
They all then returned to the study and started tracking both her phone and watch. They learned that these devices were switched off around the same time in a nearby city which was about 45 minutes to an hour drive from their city.
This information put Liam at ease, he felt better knowing that his wife was only a few minutes drive from where he was. As soon as he is done with Wilson, it will definitely be a short journey to finding his family.
Since that was out of their way, it was now time to solve the old cheeky Wilson. They discussed among themselves plans to bring Wilson to his fall.
They were chatting over some fine whiskey and it took all of Liam’s self control not to go over board with the drinks. He knew very well that drinking his sorrows away wouldn’t solve the problem and would definitely not bring his wife and child back home.
Once they came to an agreement with their plan, it was time for the 2 men to head to their houses.
The following morning Liam woke up with a purpose, he left early in the morning to deal with his company’s issues. Wilson was indeed right, with Ciara around and with all that was happening around her Liam would choose to mainly focus on her safety than to focus on the things that he could rebuild in the future.
Now that her safety wasn’t a concern nothing was really stopping him. When he got to the office he delegated tasks to all the heads of departments. Now was the time to bring back all the glory of his company, it was indeed his family’s legacy and would most likely be his child’s inheritance. He needed to do all he could to keep it as the best company in town.
With his PR team working on a statement to release for the public, he set up a meeting with Wilson.
At lunch time he made his way to the hospital where they had agreed to meet at.
When he got to their meeting room, he found Wilson already waiting for him there.
” You have achieved your mission now Wilson.”
Liam walked in the room while clapping for Wilson.
” I’m not done yet, you will have to do as I say. As promised yo need to marry my daughter.”
” woo don’t get ahead of yourself, you haven’t finished your deal with Ciara, you promised that her you will let her family members go if she cut ties with me, so what are you waiting for? Give them the antidote and we will talk about your daughter. “
Wilson went silent for a while before he nodded,
” fine don’t there go back on your word.”
” why would I? I’m a man of my words Wilson. “
Liam was very calm, he did not behave like bereaved man who had just lost his wife. Well I guess all business men are like that, never really showing their true feelings.
Wilson took out two small bottles in his bag and they headed to the intensive care unit where both family members were kept. It was still not visiting hours yet so no one was in that area, they got easy access because of their identities, one was the mayor and a family member the other was a famous and most desired Billionaire business man.
A nurse under Wilson’s payroll soon followed them in to the room and took the bottles and put the contents in the drip of each patient.
” It’s now done, we just need to wait for them to wake up on their own.”
She then excused herself and left the two men in the room.
They both decided to wait in the hospital for the two patients to wake up, this was important to Liam as it was also part of the reason why Ciara left, he needed to make sure that they do wake up and nothing goes wrong.
Chapter 87
It’s a promise he made to Ciara, even though he didn’t say it directly but he did promise her family would survive.
They waited for more than an hour and it was now currently visiting hour and Mark was the first person to come in to check up on his wife and father.
“oh you are already here, I see.”
Just as his words escaped his mouth there was some movement noticed on Hillary, it was as if she was trying to lift up her head. This movement lifted Mark’s mood as he happily called out to the doctor.
The doctor soon came in and did some checks on Hillary and tried asking her some questions as she had already opened her eyes by that time.
It was a relief to know that everything was fine with her, the only thing she complained about though was hunger, luckily Mark had already ordered someone to bring food for them.
Soon a few dishes were delivered to the hospital room among those was a nutritious soup for the patient and the rest was just normal tasty dishes which they devoured in pleasure.
That was everyone except for Liam though. His excuse was,
” Thank you but I had just had my lunch, I really can’t stomach anything now .”
” And how do you expect to live long and take care of my granddaughter if you don’t eat?”
An old raspy voice was heard coming from the old man laying on the bed which was on the other side of the room.
Everyone got up in joy, even Liam was releaved to see the old man wide awake. At least things were now getting better. When he turned around he noticed that Wilson was giving him a meaningful look.
Soon the doctor came in also took his b***d and did some checks on him, after confirming that everything was also working fine everyone relaxed a little.
It was then that Mark remembered the old man’s first words when he woke up.
” Dad why would you say, he needs to eat in order to live longer and take care of Ciara? Are they not just friends.”
” Silly boy, why do you care? You have never paid attention to this little girl for almost ten years now.”
Mark looked down with disappointment. He did care for his little, he just couldn’t contain his anger.
” You know I care, she’s my only child. “
” Yes I know that, but she doesn’t. You need to talk to her calmly. “
Seeing where the conversation was headed Wilson chipped in.
” Dont worry yourself, what uncle meant was that they need to take care of each other as in-laws. Like a brother, sister relationship.”
” in laws? “
Everyone asked at the same time as they were in shock, but now this conversation irritated Liam to the core so he stood up and didn’t bother to excuse himself and directly left the ward.
The old man Williams looked at the irritated man walking out of the door and knew that there was something fishy with Wilson’s story .
” Boy tell us, how are they in laws when we know nothing about that.”
At this moment Wilson had balled his hand in to a fist in as he watched Liam walked away, but why must he care. Like it or not was going to marry his daughter, they had an agreement. Of course that’s what he believed.
” Well he has agreed to marry my daughter Annie. We will be family soon.”
Wilson proudly declared, but his words left everyone even more confused than ever. Everyone in the family knew Annie’s preferences when it came to dating and Liam didn’t make the cut.
” I see. So why are we just having soup where’s the meat? “
That was how the man closed off the topic and changed to something else. Now that Mark and Hillary were busy talking to old man as a family and keeping him company, Wilson saw this as an opportunity to take his leave and go look for Liam.
When Ciara woke it was pitch black outside, she was very hungry and when she checked the time, she sighed in defeat.
“great, just great!
It was past midnight and all the shops were closed buy now, she could go to a convenient store but now she was in a new city and currently had no car, hence she didn’t want to risk her safety. She opened the bar fridge in her room and had planned to just drink the water there and try to sleep again but surprisingly there was some of the potatoes leftovers from when she had her meal earlier. There was also complimentary snacks which came with the room.
She happy ate the potatoes and a whole slab of chocolate, which she soon regretted as her body felt like a ball of energy and just could not fall back to sleep.
The following morning she woke up early and visited a housing agent as she was looking for a space of her own, they viewed a couple of apartments in safe areas and finally chose one that was near the city as it would be convenient for her to move about, especially since she didn’t have a car.
It was located at almost walking distance to most of the places was likely to visit in town, that would include the business district clothing shops restaurants and supermarket.
It was a one bedroom apartment with ample space and modern furnishings. It was just perfect for one person. Although it was not that big, rent was expensive though, simply because of its location.
The apartment itself was in a high security complex and people who could afford such apartments were either managers or department heads.
As Ciara was now rich, she certainly could afford to stay at that place or even buy a bigger house but she did not want unnecessary questions or attention to herself so She figured if she wanted to lay low and not stand out she would better find a job and act like all residents of the area.
Chapter 87

Chapter 88
Today her nausea was acting up really badly so Once she was done with all the formalities of getting that apartment she called the gynecologist practice nearby with good ratings.
She found that there was an opening for the next hour so she decided to just head there as there was no point in making an appointment. She could easily guess what was the problem with her as she hadn’t had her period which she missed about two weeks ago.
When she got to the doctor’s office they welcomed her with a smile and she was then given a bowl to pee in so that they could do a pee test to check all her hormon levels. Once she was done she returned the pee filled bowl to one of the nurses and waited in the waiting area for the doctor to finish up with his patient before it was her turn.
A few minutes later the doctor called her in.
“Ms Williams, good day.”
The lady doctor welcomed her happily as if they’ve known each other for a long time.
“Hello doctor.”
Ciara shyly greeted her back.
“so what brings you here this time? .”
“Well that’s what I was hoping to find out, what is the problem with my body? I’ve been puking this whole morning.”
” Well my dear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. So you can definitely celebrate that when you get home, with a none alcoholic beverage though. “
She smiled and looked at her ring finger which had a black and rose gold band on it and then continued.
” maybe you can even share the news with your husband. Congratulations you are having a baby.!
Would you like to see it now? if not we can schedule another appointment and you can bring him with you, I know this will be a special moment for the both of you.”
Ciara started fidgeting with her dress, as she was uncomfortable to share her business with the doctor.
” uhm I’ve just moved here and my husband is working overseas so it will be just me.”
” owh ok, welcome in town. That’s perfectly fine, I do understand. OK please follow me this way so that we can do the ultrasound and track the baby’s growth, shall we?”
They both went to the next room, the doctor then instructed Ciara to lay down on the bed and lift up her dress. A cold liquid was spread on her lower abdomen and the doctor began the process.
Ciara was able to hear her baby’s heart beat and saw a picture of the fetus, which was actually nothing but a dot.
The doctor then printed out a couple of pictures and when Ciara was done with wiping off her tummy, they returned to the initial consulting room.
” so according to the ultrasound you’re six weeks pregnant, we can’t tell the gender for now, but will able to know that around twenty weeks.”
She wrote a bunch of notes on the card then took out a prescription paper where she wrote down all the medication Ciara will need for prenatal care.
” these are the pills you’ll need through out your pregnancy, this right here is your next date. Also here is my business card should you need have any questions regarding your pregnancy. Since you are new here I’ve also included my personal number, call me anytime you need a friend. “
Ciara was greatful for her kindness, she was a doctor with her own practice and probably consults at some hospital, so she was definitely rich but even so this doctor was very humble and easy going.
” Thank you so much Doctor, I’ll do just that. “
” No need to address me so formally, since I’ve given you my personal number it means that I like you, please call me Donna. “
” OK Donna, we will talk.”
She got up and left after saying her goodbyes.
On her way home she passed by an internet Cafe where she fixed up a Cv for herself. The only job she knows best was writing, but since she was already doing that she decided for a normal nine to five job where she’ll be able to surround herself with people all day in her field and possibly forget about her problems.
She spent two hours searching and applying for vacancies in publishing companies.
She then headed to a nearby eatery and got herself something to eat and a takeout for later that day.
Days passed quickly she was starting adapt in the new city that she moved to, she had even moved in her rental apartment and today was the biggest day for her, it was the day of her job interview.
She woke up very early and got ready, made breakfast for herself and headed out. She decided walk as the company was about 30 minutes walking distance from where she lived. She arrived a bit early, so she decided to go through her notes for the job interview. This proved to be useful as she aced it.
” You will start in a week, but because so not have much experience we will put you in a one Month probation and will start as an office girl so that you will be able to get the gist of how we do things here. Are you fine with that?”
” yes yes, I’m definitely fine with that, Mr Thompson thank you. “
Just like that caira secured herself a job, it was her first office job. It will surely be tiring and and challenging but she was willing to take up the challenge.
Walking out of the company she decided to reward herself. She went to a supermarket bought some ingredients, she wanted to cook up a feast and celebrate her new job.
After checking out she took a taxi back home, then took out her new phone she had got when she first arrived in Port Elizabeth and texted Donna her doctor.
” Hello Doc, I’d like to invite you over to my place for early dinner. I’ll send the address if you will be able to come. Ciara Williams.”
Even if the doctor doesn’t come and its just her, she didn’t mind at all. She was determined to celebrate this day.
” oh baby, mommy will sure fill you up with some good Food today. “
She whispered as she was brushing her belly.
Chapter 89
Donna confirmed that she would be coming over straight after work, so Ciara did as promised and texted the address.
Although she was celebrating her achievements as as well as her pregnancy, she was certainly missing her husband. When she found out that she was pregnant, Liam was the first one she wanted to share the news with, now that she had managed to score herself a real job of course she still wanted to celebrate that with her husband, but faced with this reality she had no choice but to pick the doctor.
Although Liam was not here with her, she was still greatful to be living a peaceful life knowing that he is fighting for her on the other side of the country.
“You will meet your father soon my love, I promise you. He will love you as much as I do.”
She smiled then continued with her chopping, she was making several dishes also baking her dessert from scratch. Yes she was going all out.
About two to three hours from then Ciara was done with meal preparation and had even made some welcome snacks from the guests.
” wooo wait a minute you did all of this by yourself?”
That was Donna’s comment as she walked in after they exchanged their greeting at the door.
” yeah I wanted to reward myself and celebrate today.”
“ooowk, so what are we celebrating?”
“Well today I got a job on the spot and I’ll be starting in a weeks time, thought I should invite you and celebrate together.”
” Owh that’s wonderful news congratulations, what will you be doing.”
” aah nothing crazy or as important as saving lives really. I’ll be an office girl and if I work hard they’ll make me a junior editor. “
Donna was taken a back for a second but was able to maintain her happy facial expression. It was like she was trying to read Ciara’s mind, she was a plain simple girl, just got her job today as an office girl but what confused her was how she was able to afford the good health insurance that she had and be able to live in such an expensive neighborhood.
” You must already be well off or your husband is wealthy for you to be able to afford to stay here when you only had just gotten a job.”
” hahaha, don’t be silly.”
Ciara brushed off Donna’s speculation and continued to bring out the dishes so that they can enjoy her hard work in a pot. They engaged in some conversation as they enjoyed their Meal, turns out Donna came from an average household with only her father working as teacher and her mom taking care of their home. She worked her way up as a doctor all by herself, never was she born with a silver spoon in her mouth. That was probably the reason why she was this humble, Life had taught her to be kind.
” Owh you know what, I’m really glad I gave you my numbers, in fact I don’t regret it at all. Ever since I opened my practice I never got the chance to make myself a home cooked meal, all I ever eat are takeout and noodles. You know what, God brought you to me hahahaha. “
” Well I’m happy that you didn’t look down on me because you wouldn’t be having such a scrumptious meal right now. Hahaha.”
They laughed together enjoying each other’s company, and the day ended with them being friends.
Old man Williams had organized a meeting with Liam and today they were meeting at a sushi bar in the city. He chose this place as none of their acquaintances would visit that restaurant, so it was highly likely that no one will see or hear what they were talking about.
When Liam got there he found that there was no private rooms in this restaurant so he requested the manager to close it to the public and booked it for the next two hours, just in case there is a lot of things that the old man wanted to talk about.
He waited for a few minutes till to the old man showed up with his assistant to support him.
” Owh you are here already, I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for a long time.”
“Of course you didn’t, I’ve only just arrived as well. “
They both sat down and were soon served all kinds of sushi they liked.
” How is Ciara doing?”
Liam shook his head and looked down, he didn’t know how to answer that question when he himself did not know how his wife was.
” what do you mean by that, I thought you liked her and now?”
Now the old man’s face was stern as he questioned Liam in a disapproving voice.
” Do you not love her or is she not your girlfriend?”
” To be honest sir, I do love her but as of know I don’t know where she is. She made me promise to make sure that you and Mrs Williams are in good health and take care of everything that’s happening here before looking for her. “
” Owh you youngsters, I really don’t know what to do with you. We are alive now, why don’t you go and look for her or are you no longer interested in being her boyfriend? “
Liam lowered his head and mumbled.
” It’s not as easy as it sound, I want to I really do. “
Old man Williams was old and well experienced, so he could definitely see that there was more to this than what Liam was letting off. He went silent for while, none of the men touched the sushi in front of them.
” It’s Wilson, isn’t it? “
Liam looked up, he wasn’t sure if the man was testing him or he really was on his side, but remembering what he said first when he woke up at the hospital Liam chose to believe him.
” Yes, you really weren’t sick but it was Wilson who poisoned the two of you and used that to threaten Ciara to break up with me. He had always wanted to climb the social leather.”
” So by separating the two of you, his daughter can become the young mistress of the Jones family. Haa! I was wondering whyal he came to me that day when he never cared about the family. Damn him! “
Chapter 90
” That is what he thinks he will get, although Ciara left we were not just in a girlfriend boyfriend relationship, she is my wife and we did not go through a devorce and will certainly not devorce in the future. Now that you are both in health, I’m working on a plan to expose him for the person that he is. “
Hearing that his beloved granddaughter was married, and her husband was this protective over her made the old man loosen up a little. He felt at ease.
” And how are you planning to expose him? “
” Well we are still working on that, but for now the most important thing is to delay or buy us some time with using his daughter Annie.”
” Do you trust her?”
” she’s been against her father’s plan from the start, I believe she will do the right thing. “
” OK if that’s the case, I will leave everything to you. “
The old man stood up and bade Liam goodbye and left all his sushi untouched.”
Liam on the other hand invited Larry in and enjoyed the meal together, if they were to fight Wilson they needed all the energy they could get. That was certainly not because Wilson was a tough opponent but simply because he had a lot of tricks under his sleeves.
After their meal he returned back to his office, the company was doing a lot better now. They had managed to stabilize the all the chaos caused by Wilson, in no time they will be thriving again.
The day passed by with him buried in to his work, lately that was all he would do. He dreaded going back to his house as that reminded him about Ciara. Everything and every bit of space in that house was filled with memories of his beloved wife.
It was not until it was late at night that Liam started packing up his thing getting to go home, the building was empty with the lights in all offices switched off.
He passed the nigh security guard and went to the underground parking lot, where he found someone already waiting for him next to his car.
” Liam you bastard, are you now going against your words. You promised me that you were going to marry my daughter once I let the two Williams family members go.”
” Now that’s where you got it all wrong Wilson, I have never promised you to marry your daughter and I remember correctly, my words were, ‘we will talk’, now there’s a huge difference between talking and marrying. “
” so you played me, God damn it! “
” go talk to your daughter Wilson, she will give you the answer. “
Liam did not even give him a chance to continue with the argument as he started the car and drove off.
The next day when Wilson woke up, news about his daughter passionately kissing another woman was all over the news, there were a lot of speculations about her sexuality some people said she was bisexual others said they have never seen her intimate with a man apart from those pictures with Liam, so there was a huge possibility that she was gay. Others thought it was just an innocent k**s between friends, they were probably having a good time and the picture shows how comfortable they are around each other, so it was either that or they were just exploring as friends.
When Wilson saw all of these on the entertainment New, it felt like his head was about to explode with fury, here he was trying to secure the family’s future but his daughter was behaving in an ungrateful manner. It showed that she didn’t appreciate all of his efforts and was blocking all his chances of strengthening his family’s name. Being a mayor comes and goes but being closely associated with a strong family like the Jones was a lifetime thing.
Thinking about thin infuriated Wilson even more.
He walked down stairs to the dining area where the family was having their breakfast, he wanted to give Annie a piece of his mind but when he saw how unbothered and nonchalant she was, he knew right then that it would be a long argument so he took a different approach.
” I don’t even want to here about it, you are doing a press conference at noon, you need to clarify everything. Its a good thing Liam’s name was also brought out in this matter just tell them that you are his fiance. I will make sure he is also present at the venue.”
Annie continued with her meal as if what her father was telling didn’t matter at all, but still answered I’m the end.
” cool. “
She didn’t agree with her father’s method of doing things, worst of all separating a married couple for his own gains. She knew she couldn’t persuade him otherwise, so she decided to keep quiet. What she was not going to do though was to lie, or be part of his schemes.
At 12 o clock sharp in an upscale hotel conference room, a group of journalists from different media companies were gathered with their cameras and microphones in hand ready to capture every bit of information that would release.
