Ch. 1271..1280: Chapter 1271-1280

Chapter 1271

Billy was puzzled, asking, "What do you mean?"

"It's a long story. I'll tell you the details when I can." Falcon waved and added, "What matters now is that I got under Barrett's skin. He might enter that room to help them as we speak."

Although he knew Boyd to be strict and overbearing, Falcon also knew his old boss was sentimental and fiercely loyal. What happened several years ago left a profound scar in Bonnie's heart.

'Boyd never talked about that incident, but I know he blames himself for failing to save that guy. Only the core Nidhogg members remember what happened. That's why I simulated it to probe Barrett.'

Now that Falcon had recreated that horrific past and made "Bonnie" relive it, he thought she would act unfazed.

Meanwhile, Billy frowned and said, "All that matters is that you know what you're doing."

Falcon nodded solemnly. "It's a decisive moment. We only need to watch how Barrett reacts."

As Bonnie approached the door where she heard the screams, Falcon muttered anxiously, "Is he going in? Is he a spy, after all?"

He became increasingly excited and triumphant over his wise planning. “I knew to hit Barrett where it hurts if the other tests failed.”

Billy frowned and asked, "Are you sure this test will yield the desired results?"

He did not want to miss out on

someone as talented as "Bonnie" but was worried she could be one of the Nidhoggs. Even so, Falcon was about to give Billy a result he was reluctant to see.

"I've pretty much proven my suspicions," Falcon said as he watched Bonnie.

However, she did not open the door. Instead, she took another path and left.

"Um..." Falcon scratched his head. "What's he doing?"

He thought Bonnie would open the door. Regardless of whether she would try to save the person, Falcon wanted to see her reaction. Still, she left instead.

'Barrett wouldn't be unfazed if he was Boyd. I must've made a mistake. What if Barrett isn't a spy after all?'

Billy glanced sideways at Falcon and questioned, "What's this? Are you trying to cost me someone as talented as Barrett?"

Falcon sensed his menacing tone

and quickly explained, "Th-that's not it, Billy! was just worried you'd suffer losses if Barrett were a spy. After all, the chip's functionalities are of utmost importance.

"It'll impact our dreams of ruling over all organizations. We can't be too careful with such a grand dream, right?"

Billy looked at him mysteriously, saying, "Hmm, I guess you're just looking out for me."

"Of course Tam!" Falcon bowednoveldrama

respectfully. "I have our best

interests at heart. I'm no longer

of the Nidhoggs. I'm loyal to you now, Billy."

Chapter 1272

Billy grinned, satisfied with Falcon's explanation. The former said, "Keep up the good work."

Falcon said respectfully, "Thank you for trusting me, Billy."Chapter

Billy looked downstairs, his eyes brimming with coldness as he said, “We don't need to jump to conclusions now. Let's wait and see what happens.” Falcon was stunned. He asked in puzzlement, "Where are you going with this?"

"Barrett's no fool, nor is the Nidhoggs' leader. Do you think he doesn't know we're monitoring him from up here?" Billy's tone grew colder as he spoke. "Are you saying..." Falcon could almost guess Billy's intentions but was unsure.

The latter nodded and said, "That's right. I saw it, too. Barrett seems to pity the guys we tortured and knows we're watching. However, he won't do anything now, even if he intends to help them. We'll wait and see if he does anything later. Then, we'll make our final verdict."

Falcon frowned and added, "You're right, but Barrett has an innocent background. It makes sense if he pities them. I realize my tests weren't perfect. Even so, Barrett shares similarities with my old boss. I can't conclude anything with insignificant details."

The more he spoke, the deeper his frown became. "Barrett has exhibited some accidental reactions that remind me so much of Boyd."

Falcon thought things became more convoluted the more he tested "Bonnie." He felt lost and could do nothing to find the truth.

Meanwhile, Billy was much more

cautious than Falcon regarding the

chip. The former said, "Although I trust Barrett, your worries aren't unfounded. We've yet to have conclusion, so let's not let him work on the chip yet. We'll discuss it again once we know what we're dealing with."

Falcon agreed, "All right, I'll follow your lead."

Billy squinted and responded dryly, "Let's just wait it out."

l

Bonnie knew the duo was upstairs waiting for her to take action to catch Ker red-handed. Of course, she would not expose herself so quickly since she knew their intentions.

She went to the backyard and strolled around. For all she cared, they could rack their brains trying to figure her out. As expected, Billy and Falconstayed upstairs and waited. However, they heard nothing from downstairs.

The former frowned. Confused, Billy asked, "Where did Barrett go? He must be trying to plot something."

Falcon peered downstairs and said, "I don't know. I saw him turning a corner and leaving. I didn't see him after that."

"Let's go down there and check it out." Billy had a bad feeling in his gut.

However, before he could go downstairs, “Bonnie's" sarcastic voice sounded, “Are you looking for me, Mr. Billy?" Billy and Falcon were startled when they saw her.

Chapter 1273

Billy did not show his emotions, but Falcon reacted dramatically. The latter patted his chest, looking shocked as he exclaimed, "Why the hell are you so quiet?! You scared the shit out of me!"

Bonnie chuckled and calmly responded, "What do you mean? You must've been so focused in your conversation that you didn't hear me coming." Falcon felt a little guilty when he recalled his conversation with Billy. “I-I guess so.”

Meanwhile, Billy looked at "Bonnie" coldly. "Where'd you go earlier? How did you know where to find us?"

"I was walking around in the backyard,” she responded casually, "That's when I saw you guys through the window behind you."

She pointed at the window as she spoke, causing Billy to turn around. Indeed, he could see the backyard. Then, he looked at Bonnie and noticed how calm she was. She did not look like she was lying.

'I thought Barrett knew we were watching him from here. However, it looks like he saw us through the window instead. I must've overthought it. Perhaps Barrett isn't a spy, after all.'

Bonnie feigned surprise as she looked at Falcon, saying, "Didn't you say you needed to rest, Falcon? I thought the others helped you back to your room, but you're here with Mr. Billy instead. Hey, were you pretending to be drunk?"

Falcon looked embarrassed, not expecting her to expose him so straightforwardly. Since that was the case, he had to think of an excuse After some thought, he said, "The others are heavy drinkers, and couldn't take it anymore. I had to fake being drunk to get away from them.

"Then, I left my room for some fresh air and ran into Billy. So, I stayed and chatted with him. It helped to sober me up, too."

Although they tried to figure out "Bonnie," they could not reveal their intentions. The last thing Falcon wanted was to have a fallout with Billy and lose everything.

"Oh, that's how it is." Bonnie knew

what was happening but said nothing about it. Instead, she

nodded, saying, "That explains why you were chatting with Mr. Billy. You were pretending to be drunk, huh?"

Falcon chuckled dryly. "Y-Yeah.”

Meanwhile, Billy observed Bonnie's expression. She looked so calm that he did not know if she was acting or was genuinely clueless about their intentions.

Bonnie's heart pounded when she met Billy's solemn gaze. She asked, "Mr. Billy, why are you looking at me like that? Are you still suspicious of me? You must be trying to

determine if I have an ulterior motive for joining your organization.Chapter

Billy did not expect her to be that straightforward. He asked, "Why would you ask me that?"

Bonnie glanced at him, then turned to Falcon. "Do you think I'm a fool, Mr. Billy?"

Chapter 1274

Billy was stunned. Then, he composed himself and responded smilingly, "What do you mean? You might be young, but I've always thought you were wise."

Bonnie stared at them and asked, "If that's the case, do you think I wouldn't know that you and Falcon have been testing me?"

Billy looked into her eyes and felt a pang of uncharacteristic guilt. Meanwhile, Falcon turned to him and exchanged glances. Billy cleared his throat and said, "Come on, Barrett. You're "

Bonnie interjected, "If my assumptions are right, those guys you tortured aren't members of the Nidhoggs."

The duo exchanged glances again and noticed the shock in each other's eyes. They knew "Bonnie" was perceptive, but not this much. They could not help but wonder how she made such a conclusion.

Bonnie observed their expressions and continued, "Although you're quiet now, I figured you out just by looking at you. You think I'm one of the Nidhoggs, don't you?"

Falcon's eyes widened in shock. He stammered, unable to form a cohesive sentence, "Y-You're "

He found it hard to describe just how clever "Bonnie" was.

She looked at Falcon and said, "Everyone knows you were once a Nidhogg. Then, you betrayed them and joined Mr. Billy. You said you remind me a lot of your old boss, right?

“Since that's the case, you think I'm one of them. That's why you said those tortured men were members of the Nidhoggs, right? You wanted to see how I'd react."

'B-Barrett's right about everything!'

Falcon was shocked and at a loss for words. He never thought Bonnie would see through all of his intricate plans.

'Barrett's one fearsome character!Chapter

Billy always speaks of how

intelligent Barret is, but I've always been suspicious of it. I finally believe it now. Barrett's reasoning and critical thinking are unparalleled!'

Falcon did not need to speak his mind for Bonnie to read his thoughts. She subtly smirked and looked at Billy, faking a heavy sigh "Mr. Billy, did you allow Falcon to test me? I know you've been

observing me from up here.

You

must know that I pity those guys you tortured."

Chapter 1275

Since the duo had failed to probe "Bonnie," Billy considered stopping. Moreover, he never expected her to catch them and call them out on it. With that in mind, Billy tried to say something but did not know where to start.

Bonnie noticed it and faked a helpless sigh. She said, "Naturally, I pity those people and even considered helping them. After all, my parents taught me to be kind. I just couldn't bear seeing them in so much agony.

"Still, I did nothing to help them. I thought you must've caught those guys because they were your enemies. As for me, I decided to be loyal to you when I became a member of your organization. If so, why would I help your enemies?"

Bonnie looked at Billy with disappointment. "I dare say I've proven my loyalty to you many times, but you still refuse to trust me."

The more she spoke, the more disappointed she seemed. "If that's the case, I no longer need to stay here. Maybe I should leave and find another way to make a living."

Bonnie turned and walked away.

Immediately after, Falcon lunged forward and stood in her way. "Hey, that wasn't our intention! Calm down, Barrett. Listen to our explanation, will you?"

Falcon knew how much Billy valued "Bonnie's" skills. If she left because of the tests, Falcon would be in trouble.

Meanwhile, Billy grew anxious as he

said, "We were only testing you because I was about to entrust you with a considerable task. That doesn't necessarily mean we

distrust you. After all, it would el.ne

a

disaster for my organization if you were a spy."

Bonnie stopped and asked, "Is it that serious? What is this considerable task?"

"It's about " Billy was about to reveal it but stopped.

'No, I can't tell him about the chip yet. I must discuss it with Falcon when I return to my room. Nheless, my suspicions concerning Barrett have reduced significantly after hearing him out. He was honest, too.

'I'd be even more suspicious if he hid his thoughts, but he put all his cards on the table instead. I can't keep doubting him. That's why I think Barrett's clean.'

Even so, Billy had to discuss the chip with Falcon first. After all, the latter was the one who stole it from the Nidhoggs and brought it to Billy. Billy feared Falcon would refuse to let Barrett work on the chip beforenoveldrama

getting a satisfying answer.

Bonnie noticed Billy's hesitance and feigned confusion. She asked, "What is it?"

Billy collected his thoughts and smiled, saying, "It's nothing. You don't need to know about it yet. I'll tell you when the time is right."

Bonnie knew he had to consider

things first, so she said, "I'll follow your lead, Mr. Billy. I'll never forget how you helped me. I want to

support you and pull my weight

around here. I also hope you can trust me. It feels terrible to.

give my all to someone want to

trust me."

Chapter 1276

"I know you're an honest young man, Barrett. You don't have to say another word." Billy flashed Bonnie a smile. "Go get some rest. I'll arrange everything and send my men to you once it's done."

Bonnie knew that what she said had helped to dispel many of his suspicions about her. She pretended to be disheartened and sighed gently.

"It looks like you still don't quite trust me. I guess I'll go back and wait for your arrangements." With that, she pretended to slump her shoulders and walk off slowly.

Billy watched as she left. To his surprise, he actually felt slightly guilty.

Falcon saw his expression and couldn't help but ask, "I think Barrett is quite an honest young man, Billy. Perhaps I should've listened to you and not put him through this series of tests."

'After all, Barrett is obviously looking forward to serving Billy with all his heart. However, all he got in return was our lack of faith. Anyone would feel disheartened.'

"You might be right, but the tests weren't exactly pointless." Billy's eyes were sparkling with wisdom. "I could see just how loyal Barrett is to me from this incident!"

Falcon asked, "Should I arrange for him to work on the chip then?"

"We're not in a hurry." Billy looked so calm that no one could've known what he was feeling at the moment. "We can afford to wait a little longer."

Falcon was puzzled. "Didn't you just say you know how loyal Barrett is to you? Why should we wait, then? Is it because you actually haven't trusted him completely?"

"I wouldn't say I trust him

completely, but I do trust him more

than I do the other people." Billy's

eyes looked mysterious. "What'

matters more is you, Falcon Do you

trust him?"

"Well..." Falcon hesitated. "I might've felt bad about testing him after I heard what he said. However, I think we should be more cautious when it comes to the chip."

"That settles if Billy already knew what was on Falcon's mind. "If you think we should tread cautiously, then we'll wait a little longer. After all, you and Barrett need to crack the chip together. I don't want both of you to not trust each other

Falcon replied, "Thank you for taking my feelings into consideration."

"It's nothing." Billy waved at Falcon. "I'm just going to come out and say it. I intend to groom both you and Barrett to be my assistants. You will have to remove any tension and suspicion between yourselves before you can work with each other.

Falcon nodded solemnly. "Alright. Understood, Billy."Chapter

"Great." Billy nodded slightly and said, "You should go back to your room and get some rest too."

Meanwhile, Bonnie was hiding in a corner not far from them. She eavesdropped on the entire conversation.

She stayed in the area to see how much Falcon's suspicion of her had been dispelled. That would allow her to adjust to the next stage of her plan. Falcon appeared to have not fully let go of his suspicion.

Chapter 1277

'Just as well. I had arranged an operation for Collin some time ago. Now, it's going to come in handy. Once that's over, it will surely dispel all of Falcon's suspicions.'

Bonnie went back to her room and gave Collin a call immediately.Chapter

"Have you gotten everything prepared? You can begin the operation tomorrow night."

At first, he was stunned. Then, he said in an excited tone, "I've been waiting for your call, chief. I was wondering when you're going to give the order to begin the operation. It looks like great minds think alike."

Bonnie merely smiled wordlessly.

Collin continued, "What made you begin the operation earlier than planned, chief? Did something happen to Billy?"

"Nothing big happened, really. I managed to talk my way out of Falcon's tests tonight. Be that as it may, he's still suspicious of me." Bonnie rubbed her chin gently.

"I merely wanted to strike the iron while it's hot. I intend to commence the operation and completely dispel his suspicion for me."

"Are you serious? Did Falcon put you through another round of tests already?" Collin frowned. "How did he do it?"

"He hit me where it hurts the most! He used something I'd never forget to test me!" Bonnie narrowed her eyes coldly.

Then, she gave Collin a brief rundown about Falcon's tests.

Collin grew furious as soon as she was done talking.

"Falcon is such an animal! He knew that what happened back then haunted you, and yet he still opened up your old wound! He doesn't have a shred of human decency left in him!"

"That's why I intend to make some amendments to the operation," Bonnie said, and the coldness in her eyes grew chillier. "You'll shoot one of his feet, and I'll save the hostages.'

'Falcon will come away too easily if I

stick to my former plan. Also, he has completely filed me up with the latest tests he put me through. It's good that I sent Collin here. I'm going to flay Falcon's skin even if I can't kill him!'

Collin got excited. His eyes were gleaming with exhilaration as he spoke. Should I shoot his left foot or the right? Perhaps I'll just shoot both his feet! That way, he won't be able to walk for the rest of his life!"

"I have no qualms about ruining both of his feet, but now's not the time." Bonnie didn't want to let Falcon off that easily, but she had her own plans for him. "Just shoot one of his feet and leave the rest to me."

"Alright..." Collin agreed to it reluctantly.

'I would've blown Falcon's head off if I could. It's too bad that Bonnie doesn't allow me to do it.'

Bonnie could tell that Collin felt sorry for not being able to shoot both of Falcon's feet.

She laughed and said, "Alright. Once the whole thing is over and we've captured Falcon back at our headquarters, I'll let you teach him a lesson. You can do whatever you want to him and I won't intervene."

"That's a deal Collin laughed. Then,

he thought about the operation tomorrow night and grew solemn.

1

[to]

"I'm going to make some preparation now, chief. I want. make sure that nothing goes wrong with the operation tonight.

"Also... should we inform the Dark Knights about tomorrow night's operation?"

Chapter 1278

"The Dark Knights..." Bonnie pondered it and said, "Just say that we're about to begin an operation, but it isn't related to the chip. We're just dealing with some internal matters. That's all.

"There's no need to tell them about the rest of the details. Otherwise, Vic might make a big deal out of it and hound you again."

Collin nodded in agreement. "It's good that we tell them. After all, they sent one of their own to keep eyes on our every move."

"Keep it brief and don't clash heads with them. We don't need that right now." Bonnie didn't want to say it, but she knew Collin better than anyone. Once he got his mind set, no one could talk him out of it.

Collin answered, "You got it, chief. I promise you, I'm just going to tell them about the operation. I won't start another conflict with them again." "Great. What matters is that you're aware of it." Bonnie yawned. "I'm going to get some rest. Go ahead and make the arrangements."

"Okay, chief," Collin responded.

The moment he ended the call with her, he made a call to Ivor.

"We're going to launch an operation tomorrow night, but it's going to be the same as last time. We're just dealing with some internal matters. It's got nothing to do with retrieving the chip. I hope you won't make a fuss when you see us commencing the operation."

"Okay," Ivor responded dryly. He paused before he asked again, "Did your leader ask you to inform us? Or, did you think to let us know of your own accord?"

Collin shrugged and responded casually, "What difference does it make?"

"There's no difference from a theoretical standpoint, but we are working with each other on this. So, I have to find out certain details."

"Is there a need to know this?" Collin genuinely didn't see the point in this.

"Boyd is the one with authority in your organization, not you. Now that we're partners with the Nidhoggs, it's very important for you to inform us about your operation before you do anything, even if we aren't needed for it."

Ivor sounded perfectly calm as he spoke. However, his tone was laced with a hint of admiration when he spoke again. "Boyd has done a wonderful job on this. It shows me just how serious you guys are."Chapter

Collin rolled his eyes hard. He couldn't help but grumble, "You are the ones who pestered and pleaded to work with us because you want to borrow our chip. You're downright shameless."

Ivor wiped the admiration off his face and his eyes grew darker. "What did you say?"

Collin could feel the coldness in Ivor's tone and covered his mouth hastily.

"I-It's nothing. I'm going to hang up now." With that, he ended the call immediately. He patted his chest and sighed heavily.

'I have to give it to Vic. He's so imposing that he reminds me of Bonnie. Of course, it doesn't mean that I'm afraid of him or anything. hung up so quickly because I promised her that I wouldn't start another conflict with them!

'In any case, I've informed the Dark Knights about our operation. What I need to do next is prepare for tomorrow night's operation. I can forget about the rest.'

Meanwhile, Ivor stared at his phone after Collin hung up on him. His eyes flashed with an unexplained emotion.

Someone knocked on his door out of nowhere.

Ivor looked at the door and said dryly, "Come in."

Chapter 1279

The door swung open. Then, Yasmine poked her head inside and said, "Hi, boss."

Ivor raised his head and looked at her. "Yes?"

She hesitated before she walked inside. "I-I have something to ask you."

Yasmine didn't usually stammer the way she was doing now. So, Ivor had a subtle idea about why she was here.

"Are you here to ask me about news from Boyd?"

Yasmine had not expected him to see through her intentions so quickly. She froze in place. "How did you know what's on my mind?"

Ivor tapped his head and said, "I used my brain."

She merely remained quiet, unsure if he was trying to make fun of her.

Ivor realized that Yasmine wasn't saying anything. So, he continued, "Boyd didn't say anything, but Collin did tell me that they'll begin the operation tomorrow night."

"Is it the same operation my savior mentioned before?" Yasmine's tone was laced with a hint of excitement. "If Collin called you to tell you about it, does that mean our organization is a part of theirs?"

The more she talked about it, the more excited she became. "If that's the case, I'll be able to see Mr. Boyd again!"

"When has anyone said anything about us joining in on their operation?" What Ivor said snapped Yasmine out of her joy.

"Are you going to tell me we can't join them? Then, why did Collin call you and tell you about it?"

"He only wanted to inform me. It doesn't mean we're part of their operation" vor rubbed his eyebrows, "Let me just say this. The Nidhoggs didn't say we could join on their operation. That means you can't act without permission. Just go back to your work." Chapter

"But... It has been a long time since I've seen Mr. Boyd. I really want to see him again..." Yasmine's voice was filled with gloominess. "The way you're thinking about Boyd is very inappropriate, Yasmine. You mustn't forget that he's married. You're overstepping."

"O-Of course, I know he's married. I keep that in mind all the time, but I just can't control myself from being concerned about his well-being."

Yasmine's tone was laced with helplessness. "He saved my life. I just want to express some concern and make sure he's safe. Can't I do that?"

"That's not what I'm talking about." Ivor frowned. "It's just that the way you did it is inappropriate. It's slightly more understandable if you aren't aware that he's married. Now that you know about it, you have to keep your distance from him.

"You have no sense of boundary. It's easy for people to misunderstand you. You haven't even been in a relationship before. Are you going to risk letting people talk behind your back over a married man?"

Chapter 1280

"I... Um..."

Yasmine stammered for a long time, but she couldn't think of anything to say. Finally, after some silence, she said, "I'm expressing my concern in a platonic way. I didn't mean anything by it."

"You might not have meant anything, but what will the others think when they see the way you're behaving?" Ivor lectured her solemnly. "I'm going to remind you again, Yasmine. Boyd's a married man. You have to keep a distance from him if you want to keep your reputation intact."

"I'm just expressing some concern. How's that going to ruin my reputation?" Her brows furrowed. "You're making it sound more serious than it actually is."

"You don't get it yet, but you will in due time," Ivor said.

He looked at Yasmine and was about to say something, but Yasmine immediately covered her ears, as if she didn't want to listen to him anymore. "That's enough. I get it. You don't have to say it again. I'm going to keep a distance from Boyd!"

With that, she bolted out of the room in a huff. She ran to the door and almost crashed into Floyd, who was coming inside to discuss something with Ivor.

He ducked out of the way in time to avoid it happening.

He saw her grim expression and asked in a concerned tone, "What's the matter, Ms. Yasmine?"

"It's nothing." She didn't tell him anything. She didn't even stop as she left the room.

Floyd watched as she left and scratched the back of his head, feeling confused.

'What on earth is that? Is it because of something Ivor said to her? Is that why she looked the way she did?'

Floyd stepped into Ivor's office. "What's the matter with Yasmine, Mr. Ivor?"

"It's nothing. She's just throwing a temper tantrum." Ivor spoke dryly and looked perfectly calm. It was hard to decipher what he was thinking.

"You say that, but, the way I see it, it's not just a temper tantrum-" Before he could finish, Ivor threw a sharp look his way.

"Just tell me why you're here. I don't need to listen to this crap."

Floyd didn't dare to say anything anymore. Instead, he got straight to the point.

"It's about Pyralis, Mr. Ivor..."

The next day, Ivor was downstairs.

He had been waiting for Yasmine to come down for breakfast, but she still hadn't shown up. So, he couldn't help but frown. Chapter

'Yasmine has always eaten

breakfast with me every day, like et

clockwork. However, she still hasn't come down after a long time which isn't like her.

'Is it possible she's still throwing a tantrum over what I said yesterday? Given Yasmine's character, she shouldn't have stayed mad at me for this long, just because of something I said.

The longer he pondered on it, the more everything seemed off.

"Floyd."

Floyd was sitting across the table and enjoying his breakfast. He raised his head immediately and looked at Ivor. "What's the matter, Mr. Ivor?"
