If you have any ideas, I don’t mind completing the unfinished business from last night.” Toward the end, Ye Moxuan moved his lips by her ears before nibbling against her tender earlobe.“You should know by now that I am not a gentleman.”

His hot breath against Shen Qi’s skin made her tremble involuntarily. She flinched reflexively because she knew exactly what he meant. She was vaguely aware of what happened last night, and to be honest, she remembered most of it. Hence, the scene when he entered and left after was still branded in her mind. Shen Qi kept quiet once she thought of that.

Ye Moxuan turned around to lie down right beside her while facing her directly.

Under the dim light, the two of them lay down while facing each other. Their breaths were entangled, and it added a romantic tone to the already suggestive atmosphere.

Shen Qi blinked several times, and her heart raced in her chest. She tried moving about because she wanted to turn around. However, she lost her balance, and since they were both very close to each other, she tipped forward against Ye Moxuan, and her lips pressed against his icy-cold ones. She stopped breathing in that instance.

Shen Qi dumbfoundedly stared at Ye Moxuan, who was barely inches away from her. She immediately held her breath. What… am I doing?

She was rendered motionless for almost five seconds before snapping back to her senses. Panic flashed across her eyes, and she tried withdrawing backward hastily. However, just when she was retreating, Ye Moxuan, who was calm and motionless throughout the ordeal, reached out and grabbed the back of her head. He then took charge and kissed her instead.

“Mmph!” Shen Qi’s cry of surprise was muffled, and she extended both hands in front of her chest to push against him. She stared wide-eyed at Ye Moxuan, who was busy kissing her lips.

They both started speaking in hoarse voices with their lips entwined.

“You took the initiative to seduce me.”

“I—mmph!” Shen Qi was about to open her mouth to explain herself, but Ye Moxuan grabbed the opportunity and slipped his tongue into her mouth. The tip of his tongue tangled with hers, and she tried moving away, but he moved forward instead. She tried putting up defenses, but he forced his way in.

In the end, Shen Qi surrendered, and she let him kiss her freely. Her consciousness was clouded and vague, whereas her eyes were half-closed. She even unconsciously wrapped her arms around his neck. The two of them were kissing passionately, and the temperatures of their bodies rose rapidly, just like the atmosphere around them. Shen Qi had long lost herself in the kiss, thereupon Ye Moxuan lifted the edge of her top skillfully before reaching in…

Ring, ring… At that moment, there was a sudden ringing of the phone, and it interrupted the two of them, who were both indulged in the heat of passion. Shen Qi snapped back to her senses with a start, and she realized that she was kissing Ye Moxuan back just now. She was shocked to her core, and she tried pulling away, but Ye Moxuan acted as though he didn’t hear the phone ringing, and he captured her lip between his while sucking gently.

“Ye Moxuan…” Shen Qi dodged his kiss in alarm. His lips landed on her neck, and so he continued kissing downward.

“Y-Your phone is ringing!”

However, Ye Moxuan ignored her and continued keeping himself busy with the task at hand.

Shen Qi was gasping for air, and she bellowed loudly, “Ye Moxuan!”

“Ignore it,” answered Ye Moxuan in a soft voice. He then ripped away Shen Qi’s pajamas forcefully, causing her to scream in shock. “Be gentler. I just bought this dress—” Before she could finish her sentence, Ye Moxuan had already torn her dress into pieces.

Shen Qi was stunned to silence because she did not expect Ye Moxuan to be so rough and impatient!

“I’ll get you a new one now that it’s torn,” Ye Moxuan remarked before lowering himself on her again. Shen Qi started panicking, but this time, the phone started ringing again, and she commented promptly, “Your phone has been ringing non-stop. Could it be something urgent?” She was now completely awake and alert compared to just now, when she was in a daze and confused while not knowing what was happening.

His phone kept ringing persistently, and it felt as if there was truly something urgent. Ye Moxuan lost his patience as he straightened his back with a curse. Then, he grabbed his phone and answered the phone call with a dark expression.

“Young Master Ye, something horrible happened!”

Ye Moxuan glanced at Shen Qi and pursed his lips before answering in a cold tone, “You’d better pray that something horrible has truly happened, otherwise—”

Before he could complete his sentence, Shen Qi noticed that Ye Moxuan’s expression changed drastically before he squinted menacingly while asking over the phone, “Are you sure?”

Ye Moxuan hung up on the call after that, and he pushed against the bed, as if he was about to get out of the bed. Suddenly, he seemed to have recalled something because he turned around and stared at Shen Qi with a complicated gaze. He then reached out and held her chin before lowering his head to kiss her hard on the lips. “Wait for me.” He then pulled the blanket nearby and covered her.

Shen Qi was stunned throughout because she had no idea what was going on. By the time she snapped back to reality, Ye Moxuan had already left the room, but the air was still heavy with his masculine scent. Shen Qi, on the other hand, was stark naked under the blanket as she recalled what just happened.

It must have been Xiao Su on the phone. It sounded like something urgent popped up. Otherwise… why would Ye Moxuan’s expression change drastically, thereafter he leaves all of a sudden?

Shen Qi was very curious about what happened. Could it be related to the person whom Ye Moxuan was searching for? He seemed to be searching for a person, but she had no clue who the person was.

She turned around, and it came to her mind that it was possible that he was looking for a woman. That thought made her feel extremely uneasy. After all, Ye Moxuan had always been cold and aloof, and he didn’t care about others at all. In fact, he always acted as though other women had no effect on him. For a woman to make him so anxious, she must be someone very important to him.

Shen Qi tightened her grip on the blanket reflexively, and she realized that jealousy was burning in the pit of her stomach, and the flames felt as though it might engulf her in her entirety.

Jealousy… Why? Shen Qi, do you think that you have the right to feel that way? He is merely looking for someone important to him, and I, on the other hand… am nothing to him.

Sleep eluded Shen Qi for the rest of the night because she was awake waiting.

She was waiting for Ye Moxuan to return.

However, reality proved that she waited in vain because there were no signs of Ye Moxuan’s return by 6.00AM in the morning. She maintained her original position while lying in bed without even moving an inch.

After a while, Shen Qi looked as if she had accepted her fate as she got out of bed in silence before making her way to the front of the wardrobe. She picked a new nightdress and put it on numbly before turning around to head back to her spread on the floor. She then lay down again to sleep.

As if she had made up her mind, she shut her eyes the moment she lay down and was soon deep asleep.

I don’t care whatever women he’s looking for because it’s none of my business, anyway.

She slept until the next day, but she had only slept for about two to three hours, and so it gave her a horrible, throbbing headache. Shen Qi held her forehead while walking into the bathroom; after freshening up, she walked downstairs.

Ye Linhan noticed her ghostly pale face during breakfast, and he asked in concern, “Why do you look so pale? Did you not sleep well last night?”

Ye Linhan’s concern caught Shen Qi by surprise, and she was stunned to silence for a while. “I’m fine,” she answered while shaking her head.

Today, Old Master Ye was not at the dining table, and so Ye Linhan was quite casual while chatting with her.

“I heard that Moxuan went out last night, and he is not back yet.”

Shen Qi was just about to have a sip of milk, but the glass in her hand froze in mid-air when she heard that. She almost spilled the milk, and so she placed the glass of milk down and took a piece of sushi instead.

“I heard that Moxuan is looking for someone.”

Shen Qi opened her mouth and was about to eat the sushi, but she felt rather upset after hearing that. She felt like she was chewing carpet, and she didn’t reply to Ye Linhan immediately, but he went on with his questions anyway.

“Do you know who he is looking for?”

Shen Qi took a sip of milk before shaking her head. “I have no idea. I’m full, so I’m leaving now, Linhan.”

With that, Shen Qi stood up and walked out of the door. She walked very quickly, as though she was fleeing.

After a while, Ye Linhan hurried over to catch up with her. “I’m going to the company as well, so let me drive you there.”

“It’s alright.” Shen Qi did not even turn around to face him, and instead, she continued walking.

A hand grabbed onto Shen Qi out of nowhere, and she turned around in shock. She saw Ye Linhan gripping her wrist while repeating himself. “Qi, let me drive you to the company.”

Shen Qi scowled reflexively, and she was about to free herself from Ye Linhan’s grip when he tightened his fingers around her wrist. “Wait right here for me, and don’t you run away. Do you understand me?”

Shen Qi hesitated before answering him, “Linhan, I…”

“I’ll get the car.”

Ye Linhan went to get his car, and initially, Shen Qi thought of leaving, but when she recalled Ye Linhan’s bone-chilling words, she gave up and stood there waiting for him.

After some time, Ye Linhan drove his car over and stopped in front of Shen Qi while waiting for her to get in.

Shen Qi was left with no choice but to enter his car. Just when Ye Linhan leaned over to help her with her seatbelt, Shen Qi stopped him hastily. “I can handle that.”

“I’ll get it.” Ye Linhan held her hands down and insisted on fastening the seat belt for her while his masculine scent wafted at her. Putting the seat belt on was a simple enough action, but Ye Linhan seemed to be moving extra slowly, and so she could feel his cool breath on her cheeks.

Shen Qi felt rather uncomfortable, and she flinched instinctively from him while leaning her head backward to put as much distance from him as she could.

Ye Linhan broke the silence suddenly.

“Are you in a rush to avoid me?”

Shen Qi’s breath caught in her throat when she heard that, and she looked up reflexively. It so happened that she gazed right into Ye Linhan’s icy-cold eyes. “You—”

“I switched your position because I was hoping that you wouldn’t be bullied again. There was no other reason behind that.”

Shen Qi did not reply to him, but her breathing quickened slightly.

After fastening her seatbelt for her, Ye Linhan was in no hurry to leave; instead, he held her hands slowly. “Do you know who was Moxuan looking for last night?”

Before Shen Qi could answer him, Ye Linhan continued, “If you both have feelings for each other, and if you are happy the way you are, then I wouldn’t comment. But I don’t want to see you being hurt over and over again.”

“Linhan…” Shen Qi wanted to shove against him, but Ye Linhan wrapped an arm around her shoulders suddenly to hug her tightly.

In that instant, Shen Qi felt as though her heart had stopped beating.

What is he doing?

“Qi, if you are willing, I can take care of you for the rest of your life.”

Shen Qi smiled faintly when she heard that. “Linhan, before you do such a thing, have you never considered your younger brother’s feelings?”

“Since Moxuan refuses to appreciate you, I will not give him another chance. Qi, divorce him.”

“And what would happen after our divorce?” she asked.

Ye Linhan pondered before withdrawing himself away from Shen Qi, and he gazed into her eyes tenderly.

“I would be the target of public criticism after the divorce, and should I marry you then, Linhan? Are you truly doing this out of kindness for me?”

Ye Linhan pursed his lips, but he remained immobile.

“Ha!” Shen Qi laughed mockingly. “Ye Linhan, do you truly care for me and don’t want to see me being bullied, or are you in a rush to take revenge on Ye Moxuan? Is that why you can’t wait for me to divorce him? You want me to be with you instead to prove how irresistible you are, am I right?”

Panic flashed across Ye Linhan’s initial tender gaze when he heard that because he didn’t seem to anticipate Shen Qi to think along those lines. In fact, he most probably did not expect her to be so direct with her words. He held onto Shen Qi’s shoulders and asked, “Why would you think that? Do you see me as that sort of person?”

“In that case, please tell me, Linhan, what type of person are you? Do you think that I would truly believe that you’d fall for a married woman? Since you are familiar with my identity, I’m sure that you know that apart from Ye Moxuan, I’ve been married before. Hence, if I were to get divorced again, it would be my third marriage, and I know that in the eyes of men, a woman like me is just another used toy. Do you really want that? Please don’t be naïve because I won’t believe you no matter what you say!”

Ye Linhan frowned, and the fingers around her shoulders tightened as well. He then growled at her after she was done speaking. “I will not allow you to talk about yourself in that way! What do you mean by third marriage and used toy? I don’t care about such things.”

“In that case, what do you care about?” jeered Shen Qi. “Do you think that I’d believe you just because you claim that you don’t mind these things?”

“What I care about is your heart.”

Shen Qi was dumbfounded, and she stared in surprise at Ye Linhan, who was merely inches away from her.

Ye Linhan gazed sternly into her cold eyes before explaining, “I know that it’s difficult for you to trust men again after experiencing two failed marriages, and that is why I’m willing to wait for you. I’m prepared to wait for the day you are ready to believe me. Qi, I just want you to know that I am truly in love with you, and that I am not joking with you. I can… swear on my life.”

He raised his hand as though he was going through with some sort of ceremony.

“Heaven as my witness, I, Ye Linhan, am willing to trade my wealth and life in exchange for Shen Qi’s trust. I want to take care of her for the rest of her life, and if anything I say was a lie, I would die a horrible death.”

Shen Qi turned pale when she heard the last part of his speech. “S-Stop saying nonsense!”

“Are you feeling heartache?” Ye Linhan smiled faintly, but he soon laughed self-deprecatingly. “In that case, are you willing to show me some tenderness? Just treat it as though you pity me, and promise that you’ll give me a chance?”

Shen Qi murmured, “Ye Linhan, you—”

“Just call me Han in the future. What you’re calling me sounds so distant, so I’d rather you call me Han.”

Ye Linhan was direct with his words, and he poured his heart out to Shen Qi. He knew that he just had to wait for his chance in silence after revealing his piece of mind to allow the idea to sink in. Thus, there was no rush for him, and he backed off straight away before Shen Qi had the chance to reject him.

“You don’t look well today. Do you want to take a day off?”

He changed the topic straight away, and so Shen Qi did not have the chance to refute him. “That’s alright. I’m fine,” Shen Qi replied instead.

I just didn’t have a good night’s sleep. I’m not ill anyway.

“The journey to the company takes 20 minutes, and it’s still early now. I will drive slower, so you’ll have the chance to nap in the car. I will wake you up once we arrive.”

Shen Qi thought that it was a rather good idea, and so she nodded quietly before leaning backward and closed her eyes.

Her thoughts were all jumbled up; initially, when Ye Linhan told her those things, she assumed that he was just trying to get her involved in the fight between the two brothers. Nevertheless, Shen Qi was confused the moment he made that vow.

If he wasn’t sincere earlier, why would he say that?

Even if he was just trying to gain my trust, why would he curse himself in such a horrible way?

Shen Qi’s mind was in a tangled mess, but her eyelids were heavy with exhaustion, and she was soon fast asleep.

Very soon, her breathing became slow and steady.

The traffic lights turned red, so Ye Linhan took the chance when the car was parked to look to the side while observing Shen Qi, who was deep asleep.

Shen Qi’s facial features were very delicate indeed, and her eyelashes looked especially thick and curly with her eyes closed. The dark greenish tinge around her eyes was especially pronounced under her fair skin. Her eyes appeared as though they were set deeper compared to when she just married into the Ye family.

Her weight seemed to have decreased steadily ever since she got married, and her chin looked prominent, which accentuated her small face.

Ye Linhan sighed, and he couldn’t help but reach out to swipe away a strand of stray hair on her forehead. “I will protect you well in the future,” he claimed in a quiet voice.

Shen Qi felt as though she was asleep for the longest time, and it was most probably due to the fact that she was worried about work, for the first thing she blurted upon waking up was whether they had arrived at the company. After asking, she realized with a start that the car was already parked in the car park, which further shocked her.

“Have we arrived?”

Ye Linhan smiled at her faintly. “We just arrived. There is no rush since we still have time.”

Shen Qi was about to grab her mobile phone from her bag to check the time, but Ye Linhan handed her a bag while advising her, “Eat this before going upstairs.”

“What is this?” Shen Qi asked curiously while peeking into the bag. She noticed that the bag was still warm to the touch when she accepted it, and she found out with a start that inside the bag was a packet of warm milk, an egg tart, and a bun.

These are all my favorite foods. Shen Qi’s brows shot up in surprise.

“Thank you, Linhan,” Shen Qi thanked him while accepting the bag. “But it’s best that I eat this upstairs. It’s not too convenient having it here after all.”

This is his car, and if someone were to see me eating in it, it would become the company’s gossip.

“Don’t refer to me as Linhan. I thought we’ve agreed on you calling me Han,” remarked Ye Linhan with a chuckle, and his comment seemed harmless enough, but Shen Qi felt extremely embarrassed. How could I possibly call him Han? That’s a bit too affectionate. Hence, she lowered her eyes without answering him.

“Forget it.” Ye Linhan surrendered in the end while sighing loudly in defeat. “I should not force you. On the contrary, I should give you time to adjust to the situation. You should go on and head up now.”

“Mm-hmm, thank you.” After thanking him, Shen Qi got out of the car with the bag in her hands.

When Shen Qi arrived at her department, she bumped into several people who were shifting things from her desk, whereas the others surrounding them were deep in discussion. She stood rooted to the spot for several seconds before approaching them while asking, “What are you guys doing? This is my desk.”

Several men in suits answered her monotonously, “Miss Shen, this is Young Master Ye’s orders.”

Young Master Ye’s orders? Ye Moxuan?

That’s right, he mentioned to me last night that he wants me to return to his side and work for him. I thought that he’d forget about it completely since he left in the middle of the night. Who would have thought he’d ask someone to shift my things straight away the next morning?

Shen Qi’s expression changed for a bit, and anger came boiling in her chest.

He got me all hot and bothered in the middle of the night, and he looked so irritated when the phone kept ringing, but he left straight away after answering that phone call. He even asked me to wait for him to return, but in the end, he was nowhere to be seen despite me staying awake while waiting for him the whole night.

He is still missing now, so how dare instruct these people to clear my table?

“Stop shifting my stuff. I am not going back,” announced Shen Qi.

The men paused for a while, but they ignored her while repeating that this was Young Master Ye’s orders. After that, they were making their way out of the department, but Shen Qi blocked the entrance straight away to stop them from leaving.

“I am not giving you permission to shift my table. You claim that you are taking orders from Young Master Ye, then where is he now?”

“I merely received his orders, so—”

“That means that you didn’t meet him. Since he did not order you in person, how would you know that the order is real? Stop touching my things, and return them to their original positions before leaving right now.”

“Well…”

The men looked at each other while exchanging glances, and in the end, they claimed the same thing. “I’m sorry, Miss Shen. This is Young Master Ye’s orders, and if we do not obey his instructions, we would be severely punished.”

With that, one of them came forward to pull Shen Qi to the side by force. The rest of them then lifted the table with all its contents and left the department swiftly.

Shen Qi was rendered speechless at the turn of events.

The man finally let go of her after they completed their task. He apologized in embarrassment to Shen Qi. “I’m so sorry for offending you, Miss Shen. We will be leaving now, and please feel free to clarify everything with Young Master Ye in person later.”

Shen Qi was stumped and at a loss for words.

After they left, her colleagues from the department gathered around her in a hurry.

“Whoa, what was that? Didn’t Vice President Ye switch your job position yesterday? Why did Young Master Ye shift your entire table away today? Where are they shifting your things to?”

“Oh, my god. They can’t be shifting everything upstairs, can they? Shen, have you been reinstated again?”

“But if Young Master Ye were to go through with this, isn’t that like a smack in the face for Vice President Ye?”

“That’s right, Vice President Ye ordered for a position transfer yesterday, and today, Young Master Ye reinstated her. What is wrong with those two brothers?”

“Shen, what is your relationship with them? Are both Young Master Ye and Vice President Ye pursuing you? Aren’t you a lucky girl? “Why are you acting so high and mighty? Aren’t you just acting like this just because Young Master Ye and Vice President Ye fancy you? We were all colleagues previously, so don’t you think you are going overboard with your behavior?”

“That’s right, you are merely reinstated; why are you so proud of yourself? You might get a demotion soon anyway. After all, Young Master Ye and Vice President Ye would get married sooner or later, and a person who has no social status, like you, would never marry into the Ye family as their Young Lady. Hmph!”

They turned away and left after hissing at Shen Qi in anger.

Shen Qi was left alone while she stood rooted to the spot, and she stared unseeingly at the empty spot where her desk used to be.

She didn’t leave when Ye Linhan transferred her, and she didn’t even meet him when he sent his subordinate to invite her.

Who would have thought that Ye Moxuan would send his staff to shift her desk the moment he reinstated her position? He must be determined to stop me from working in this department.

Just when she was lost in her thoughts, the elevator door opened with a ding, pulling Shen Qi back to reality. She then saw Xiao Su pushing Ye Moxuan out of the elevator.

The both of them had not slept for the entire night, and there were clear, dark circles around their eyes.

Shen Qi hesitated before standing up.

Ye Moxuan seemed as if he wasn’t expecting to see her here. He realized with a start when he noticed the desk in front of her, and so he commented with a smirk, “You’ve done well.”

“So it is true that you were the one who instructed them to shift my things here.”

Xiao Su knew that they had things to discuss, and so he pushed Ye Moxuan to Shen Qi’s front before taking his leave. “Young Master Ye, I’ll be off to complete my work.”

Xiao Su turned around to enter the elevator before waiting for a reply, and he was gone within seconds.

Shen Qi sneered in silence when she witnessed that. He escaped rather quickly.

“If I hadn’t shifted your things, would you have come up here obediently?” Ye Moxuan glanced at her briefly before rolling his wheelchair toward his office.

Shen Qi pursed her ruby red lips when she heard that before marching after him and entering his office.

“You didn’t have to ask them to shift my things forcefully, did you? All these things belong to that department; now that you’ve moved everything up here, then—”

“You don’t have to worry about anything else. You just have to be my secretary obediently.”

Shen Qi countered, “I do not wish to be your secretary.”

Ye Moxuan paused for a bit before answering, “I was looking for someone.”

“Looking for someone? Who were you looking for?” Shen Qi took the chance to question him further.

Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes at her menacingly. “You shouldn’t ask such questions.”

Shen Qi hesitated before raising her voice. “That’s right, I shouldn’t have asked that. Since when do I have the right to ask about matters which involve you, Ye Moxuan? From today onward, you should stop meddling in my affairs as well.”

She was fuming by the end of her speech!

Ye Moxuan looked as though he was reminded of something when he saw her so furious. His lips curled into a gleeful smile, and he reached out suddenly to pull Shen Qi into his embrace. He then lifted her chin between his fingers before asking in a seductive voice, “Miss Second-marriage, are you jealous?”

“You are jealous because I left in the middle of the night and left you all alone at home. You felt empty and lonely, and that is why you are jealous, am I right?” Ye Moxuan was not rough, but he pinched her chin firmly, rendering her immobile.

Shen Qi tried struggling, but she couldn’t get out of his grip, and so she mustered whatever energy she had left to answer him. “Let me go, Ye Moxuan. You went looking for another woman in the middle of the night, and here you are, asking if I’m jealous. Either you are insane or I am going mad. Let go of me!”

Ye Moxuan’s eyes turned icy-cold, and he tightened his grip.

“I am going insane, then. Tell me, are you jealous?”

“I am not!” Shen Qi pushed hard against him. “Let go of me.”

“You have the audacity to claim otherwise?” Ye Moxuan smirked at her. “You are already so mad that you’re fuming.”

With that, Ye Moxuan lowered his head and kissed her square on her lips suddenly. His sudden actions shocked Shen Qi to her core, and so she stared back at Ye Moxuan in shock. Her fair cheeks blushed a deep red after a while.

“What are you doing?”

“If you are jealous, did you feel better after a kiss?” Ye Moxuan narrowed his eyes before he pressed his forehead against hers and asked her with a husky voice.

Shen Qi was so embarrassed that she was at a loss for words.

She stared at him in a daze for almost ten seconds before laughing self-deprecatingly. “What are you saying? You abandoned me in the middle of the night, and you were gone just because you said so. Why would you ask me to wait for you to come home when in the end you, you—?”

“Did you wait for me just because I asked you to?”

For some reason, Ye Moxuan was especially glad to see Shen Qi today, and he was particularly glad to see her jealous. Ye Moxuan thought that the woman before him right now was adorable, and it gave him even more reason to tease her.

However, he did not notice the changes in Shen Qi’s emotions.

Shen Qi looked at him while regarding his face coldly.

“Even though you waited for me last night, aren’t I back now?”

In the beginning, his kiss was rather aggressive, but it soon turned into a tender and gentle one. He sucked her lips lovingly and tenderly, as if he was carefully savoring his beloved.

Gradually, Shen Qi seemed to be captivated by that intoxicating feeling, and her emotions calmed down.

Ye Moxuan moved his tongue and lips away from her while pressing his forehead against hers.

Shen Qi felt even more horrible when she saw how sharp his gaze was. Hence, she turned around in silence and went to make him a cup of coffee.

After making his cup of coffee, Shen Qi returned to her desk. She stared unseeingly at the familiar computer of hers while feeling sorry for herself.

Shen Qi spent her entire morning in a daze while spacing out, and she went on in that manner until Yan came looking for her in the afternoon to have lunch together. Just when the two of them entered the elevator, they bumped into Han Xueyou, who was coming out of the elevator.

Shen Qi was rather surprised when saw Han Xueyou. “Xueyou, why are you here?”

Han Xueyou was stunned to silence for a while before finally stepping out of the elevator.

“Qi, were you alright during the annual dinner party?”

Shen Qi shook her head while replying, “I was fine.”

Yan, who was beside Shen Qi, blurted before she could stop herself, “What kind of a friend are you? Why are you asking now after such a long time? Fortunately, she is fine; if something bad had happened, wouldn’t you be just trying to gloat and put her down for checking on her now?”

“You!” Han Xueyou glared at Yan vehemently before biting her lip. “You have been hostile toward me ever since we first met. When have I offended you? If I recall correctly, we have never met before in the past, am I right?”

Han Xueyou even glanced at Shen Qi while asking Yan.

Shen Qi wasn’t sure if she was imagining things, but she felt that Han Xueyou’s gaze made it seem as though she was doubting her. Shen Qi’s pink lips parted just when she was about to explain herself.

But Yan broke the silence first. “Well, I don’t like your face. It’s not my fault that you have the type of face I dislike; that’s why I’ve been finding fault with you ever since we met. Do you have a problem with that?”

Han Xueyou was almost blinded by anger, but she suppressed her fury in the end. “Tsk, I am the Young Lady of the Han family, and so I would never stoop to the level of someone as insignificant as you. A person’s mentality is always associated with their status and position, so it is no wonder that you are still a negligible employee until now. You are truly despicable.”

“That’s fine. Let’s go.” Ye Moxuan’s gaze darkened, and his aura felt icy and intimidating.

“Alright,” Han Xueyou answered with a nod before looking back at Shen Qi. “In that case, wait for us to return, Qi. I will bring some snacks back for you.”

With that, she walked happily to Ye Moxuan to push his wheelchair from behind. The two of them were soon out of Shen Qi’s sight.

After they left, the pen in Shen Qi’s hand fell onto the floor with a dull thud.

She was lost in her thoughts while biting her lower lip as if she mumbled to herself, “Qi, you must not overthink. Xueyou is not that type of woman. They are merely having a meal together because it is lunchtime now. Besides… she invited you, and you were the one who rejected her!”

That’s right, I rejected her.

She did not answer Xiao Su, and she gave him an odd look. Why does he look just like Yan earlier? He looks as if he is on her side.

Xiao Su started explaining. “Second Young Lady, with all due respect, you are Young Master Ye’s wife after all, so how can you not be bothered that Young Master Ye left with Miss Han for a meal? Aren’t you afraid that Miss Han might snatch Young Master Ye away one day?”

Shen Qi stared at the two of them inside and remained silent.

Xiao Su paused before he asked, “Second Young Lady, shall we go in?”

“No!” Seeing Xiao Su getting up to walk in, Shen Qi quickly grabbed the corner of his clothes and stopped him from moving.

She stared at the two people inside and seemed to be thinking about something.

All of a sudden, Ye Moxuan glanced over toward their direction as if feeling something. Shen Qi saw his gaze and was so frightened that she pulled Xiao Su down with her. They hid in the corner and managed to avoid Ye Moxuan’s sight.

“Young Master Ye, what shall we have today?” Han Xueyou deliberately leaned forward as she showed Ye Moxuan the menu and slowly approached him. She had an elegant perfume on and had applied a red lipstick that looked seductive. It made her look pure and perfect.

Han Xueyou was confident in herself; if Ye Moxuan didn’t love Shen Qi, she should be able to get his admiration if she tried.

After all, with her appearance, she believed that Ye Moxuan would be tempted.

Han Xueyou was still speaking when she realized that Ye Moxuan’s dark pupils were staring outside. She froze and looked out toward the direction he was looking at. “Young Master Ye, what’s wrong? Is there anything out there?”

With that, she stood up.

“Nothing.” Ye Moxuan looked back, and his dark pupils were filled with coldness. His thin lips were also pursed into a straight line.

Han Xueyou wasn’t discouraged. She curved her lips and smiled gently. “Young Master Ye, what would you like to have?”

“Anything. You choose.” Ye Moxuan lifted his eyes, and his sharp gaze scanned her, frightening Han Xueyou. It felt like a knife was thrown at her, but she soon gave it a thought and got over it.

For a cold man like Ye Moxuan, he was definitely as cold as an ice block that would be difficult to melt. But once he melted and she got his heart, he would be as passionate as fire.

Han Xueyou smiled sweetly and tried hard to make her voice gentler and softer. “Great. I will make the decision, then.”

She then called the waiter and ordered some dishes.

Xiao Su’s eyes widened. “Go back? Second Young Lady, are we not going in?”

“No.”

Shen Qi lowered her eyes and stared at the tip of her toes as she spaced out. “There is no need for that.”

Before Xiao Su could speak again to persuade her, Shen Qi got up and walked in the opposite direction. Xiao Su stood still in the same place for several seconds before he snapped back to reality and caught up with her.

“What’s the matter, Second Young Lady? Didn’t we just say we were going in together?”

No matter how Xiao Su talked to her, Shen Qi ignored him and walked without thinking. Xiao Su followed her for a long time and finally couldn’t hold it back anymore, so he blocked her from the front. “Second Young Lady, we are already here anyways. She just watched Yan’s back and felt depressed.

Yan didn’t care and just rushed forward before giving her a slap in return.

She was fierce and fast. Before Han Xueyou could react, the slap had already reached her face.

“How dare you hit me?”

Han Xueyou covered her face and glared at her with rage, as if she was going to tear her apart. “Don’t think I won’t do anything to you just because you are Qi’s friend.”

“Of course you can do whatever you want to me. You even dare to snatch your best friend’s husband. I’m just a friend of your best friend anyway, so of course you will be more brutal against me. Am I right?”

Han Xueyou’s expression changed as she heard that. “Quit that nonsense! Snatch? I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

Han Xueyou’s expression fell when she heard her. “What did you do?” She hurried forward and tried to snatch Yan’s phone over, but Yan took a big step back and smirked. “Why are you panicked? Didn’t you say that you did nothing? Why do you look guilty, then?”

Han Xueyou tried to calm herself down. “So what? I have a clear conscience. Besides, Qi won’t believe you.”

“Well, we’ll see.” Yan put her phone away and left after giving Han Xueyou a vicious glare.

Shen Qi got a message notification when she got up to get some tea. She took her phone out and saw the video Yan sent her. She was startled for a moment and didn’t even realize that the water was overflowing.

It was until she felt a sharp pain in her hand that Shen Qi got back to her senses. She put the cup down with her trembling fingers and looked at her hand. Her palm and fingers were red from being scalded.

After some thought, Shen Qi put her hands under running water and applied some of the antiseptic cream from last time. She then went back to her desk.

Another message from Yan came in as she just sat down.

“I know you don’t want to believe me now, but I have a video to prove that I’m not talking nonsense. Qi, I’m usually pretty good with people. Trust me just this time.”

Shen Qi stared at the message in silence, and Han Xueyou called when she was just about to reply to the message.

When Shen Qi saw that it was Han Xueyou’s phone call, her hands shook, and her phone fell onto the table. It was not a long fall, so the phone was fine. It was still ringing.

Shen Qi finally picked it up after a long time.

“Hello?”

Han Xueyou hesitated. “Qi.”

Shen Qi did not speak and planned to listen to what she was going to say.

“Sorry, Qi.” Han Xueyou sounded very distressed and seemed to be a little aggrieved. “Did Yan send you a video? Don’t believe anything she said. We are best friends, BFFs, and even if the whole world betrayed you, I would never betray you.”

Shen Qi tried to open her mouth and speak, but she realized she couldn’t as she choked on her tears. “What about we meet after work and talk about it?” Han Xueyou asked.

Ye Moxuan called her over to the office and gave her a proposal after some time. He asked for her opinion, and she was surprised when she got it. Ye Moxuan had never asked for her opinion, yet now…

Shen Qi came back to her senses and unconsciously raised her eyes to look at Ye Moxuan. She then shook her head quietly and looked at the proposal.

The door of the office was pushed open, and a slender figure entered. It was Ye Linhan.

Shen Qi was still focussed on the proposal and didn’t realize who it was.

When Ye Linhan came in, he saw Shen Qi. His greyish-brown eyes seemed to have a glimmer of sadness for a moment, but it was soon replaced by gentleness while he walked steadily toward the desk.

“Moxuan.”

Shen Qi raised her head when she heard Ye Linhan’s voice.

Ye Moxuan had been secretly looking at Shen Qi from the side and observing her reaction, but he didn’t expect her to raise her head. Ye Moxuan felt unhappy instantly, and the hands on his laps clenched tighter.

Ye Linhan and Shen Qi’s eyes met mid-air before Shen Qi looked down again. She didn’t accept Ye Linhan’s offer and was now in Ye Moxuan’s office after being promoted by him. Will he think that I’m a materialistic, greedy person?

“Yes?” Ye Moxuan’s voice was cold, and his eyes were like knives as he looked at Ye Linhan.

Ye Linhan looked at Shen Qi’s face and looked back.
